This document discusses the evolution of the circulatory system and heart in chordates. It begins by defining open and closed circulatory systems. It then describes the heart structure in various chordate groups, starting with a single-chambered heart in primitive chordates. Fish have a two-chambered heart. Amphibians and most reptiles have a three-chambered heart, while crocodilians have a four-chambered heart. Birds and mammals also have a four-chambered heart that allows for complete separation of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood via double circulation. References are provided at the end.
