2. The SSI, also known as collaborative inquiry, is
best known in the fields of organizational
development and change management. Its
premier proponent in the Philippines is Dr.
Herminia Corazon M. Alfonso of the
Department of Communication Research,
College of Mass Communications at the
University of the Philippines in Diliman.

3. Socially shared inquiry, as communication, is
a process of social research within, for and by
a community that is in need of emancipation
from its Disabling Perplexity (DP) (Diaz

4. Disabling perplexity is a reality where a
community is hindered from solving its own
problems, thus rendering its members
helpless and feeling trapped in a vicious cycle
(Diaz Lecture Notes, 2007 from Alfonso,
2000). Awareness of their disabling perplexity
leads to the members using their own
knowledge of themselves and their situation
to stop the spiral and solve their problems.

partner/adopted community of

the RCC-CESO, they found out that
the Sitio Babo community is in the
state of disabling perplexity.
Thus, they adopted the community
and became the center of their

RCC teachers and students serve as teachers.

19. The RCC-CESO used the process of Socially-
Shared Inquiry to solve the problem.
According to Dr. Alfonso (Diaz Lecture Notes,
2007), the process of SSI Application are:
1.Involvement of the members of the
community in the process.
2. Presence of well-organized community.
3.Members of the community can be motivated,
and convinced by the enablers to see the
benefits of their participation.

Officials of Sapang Bato, representative of Sitio Babo community,
and the officers of the Rotary Club of Intramuros, Manila with
