Before you connect with your community,
Take the following steps:
 Know exactly what you want professionally
and personally
 Follow a few people and organizations
After your profile is set, begin sharing
resources that will add value to the people
connected to you.
 Accuracy
 Grammar
 Spelling
 Respect
 Verify All Deaths
 Check relevance
 Give credit where
credit is due
 Be Tasteful
 Remember your audience
 Respect others
 Avoid religious jokes
 Avoid jokes that divide
 Use humor that is inclusive
 Be ready to clarify
 Understand some people
won’t get it. Ever.
If you want to increase the exposure of your
information, make it easy on your followers
CATS
 Connect with two to
three people from each
position you have held.
 Connect with 5-10
people from your
organization.
 Connect with 5-10
people that are from
organizations or
causes you support.
 Add a couple each
week.
LIONS
 If you have your
activity hidden to
connections, unhide
your activity
 Connect with all the
“friendlies” that you
have worked with
 Connect with people
across departments in
your organization.
 Import your email
directory.
 Look for virtual of extensions of the
organizations you belong to in the “real
world”
 If you join a group and it is not active
enough, too active, or not what you thought
…LEAVE. It is better to leave than to just be a
fly on the wall for years on end.
 If you are a lion, you might want to change
your digest of notifications to be emailed to
you weekly instead of daily or real time.
