Definition Social networking focuses on building online communities of people who share interests and/or activities. Most social network services are Web-based and provide a variety of ways for users to interact, such as e-mail and instant messaging services.
Some Terminology Web 2.0 A second generation of Web development and design that aims to facilitate communication, secure information sharing, interoperability and collaboration on the Internet. Includes Web-based communities such as social networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, and blogs. Wiki A collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone with access to contribute or modify content. Wikipedia is one of the best-known wikis.
Some Terminology Digg A social news Web site made for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet, by submitting links and stories, and voting and commenting on submitted links and stories.  RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Web-feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blogs, news headlines, audio, and video. Instant Messaging  Any system that allows instantaneous person-to-person conversations over a network. Began in 1960s as early Unix chat systems.
