Columbia Business School Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Columbia Business School" can be a challenging endeavor.
The difficulty lies not only in the need for thorough research and understanding of the specific
nuances of the business school but also in presenting a unique and compelling perspective that
sets the essay apart from others.
The task involves delving into the distinctive features of Columbia Business School, such as its
curriculum, faculty, and the overall learning environment. One must carefully articulate personal
and professional goals, aligning them with the values and opportunities offered by the school.
Additionally, conveying one's qualifications, experiences, and aspirations in a concise yet
impactful manner requires a delicate balance.
Furthermore, the essay must be a manifestation of the applicant's individuality, showcasing what
makes them stand out among the pool of candidates. It demands a keen awareness of one's
strengths and weaknesses, coupled with an ability to convey a sense of self-assurance without
appearing overly boastful.
Navigating the fine line between humility and confidence can be challenging, as the essay
should be assertive enough to make a strong case for admission while avoiding an overly self-
centered tone. Striking this balance is crucial for creating an essay that leaves a lasting
impression on the admissions committee.

interplay of research, self-reflection, and effective communication. It requires a careful weaving

Credit Card Debt Persuasive Speech
Pay Off Your Credit Card Debt!
Yes, it s possible. But it s going to be a painful process. And it will require you to
shed blood, tears, and sweat. However, the sacrifices will definitely be worth the
reward. So how can you finally pay off all your credit card debt and be proud of your
Experian, Transunion, Equifax, or FICOВ® score? Here are some practical tips to
make your way towards financial freedom.
1. Stop using your credit cards.
Freeze them, cut them, hang them from the top of the Empire State building, it s up
to you. The point is you need to make sure your plastic money is not accessible to
you so you can t use them anymore and rack up more debt. This is one of the most
difficult but important steps.

accounts and rank your plastics according to highest to lowest interest and start

time possible? Then go with the one with the smallest balance first. Is it to boost
your credit score? Tackle the card with the highest utilization rate. Fully paying off
one card will make you feel awesome and even more motivated to take care of the
rest of your debts.
Once you ve identified which credit card you ll prioritize paying off, aim to make at
least a double payment each month. Once you ve fully paid off the card on the top of

Advertising And Marketing Operations Of Pharmaceutical...
For decades, the business dealings of pharmaceutical companies and physicians has
been identified as a potential conflict of interest. Providers have an obligation to
their patients, and society as a whole through their work. It is my belief that the
majority of providers seek to do well by their patients and the majority of Americans
agree (Benson, Blendon, Hero, 2014, p. 1570). This good intention can be
overwhelmed by deeply rooted human behavioral tendencies despite any tangible
monetary value. Patients should reasonably expect that their providers are making
medical decisions based upon sound medical knowledge and not advertising material.
We will explore the role of a practitioner that gives rise to conflicts of interest and

In the business ethics world, social responsibility is generally self imposed as a
competitive mechanism and conflicts of interest are discussed within Emerging
Business Ethics Issues in a recent and popular textbook on the subject by Ferrell,
Ferrell Fraedrich (2015). We will keep this in mind as we discuss the provider
pharmaceutical industry relationship. A relationship in which the physician is a public
figure bearing social responsibility and the pharmaceutical company is a business that
bears social responsibility in response to regulation.
In other words, the physician can experience a conflict of interest in placing personal
gain over the responsibility to her patient (Friedman, 1992, p. 245). In the same
instance, the pharmaceutical company would not experience the same conflict of
interest per se when it is operating within business parameters to influence the
physician s choice to gain profit through marketing. The pharmaceutical company
would be forgoing its fiduciary responsibility if it were not to engage in such
practices when leveraged as a business entity. Especially if actions are classified as
marketing expenses aimed at informing rather than influencing provider actions.
What is personal gain in this conflict of interest? The debate over what constitutes a
personal gain has continually been evaluated for decades. In 1967 Ruge described the

A discussion of the theory that class based differences in educational achievement are
mainly due to familial factors.
Throughout the twentieth century, there have been many changes made to the
structure of the education system. These include the 1944
Education act which made secondary education compulsory and introduced the tri
partite system of school, though the move to a comprehensive system of schools in
the 1960 s, to the introduction of the National
Curriculum in 1988. While official statistics have shown that all these measures have
served to increase the overall levels of educational attainment (as defined by
attainment of qualifications), both official and sociological evidence indicated that

Douglas also believed that poor living conditions in the home were major factors in
educational failure. In a survey, he divided his sample into two groups: those who had
sole use of household facilities, such as bathrooms, and those who did not. He found
that the children living in unsatisfactory condition scored much more poorly on tests
that those in satisfactory conditions.
Reason suggested for this include poor housing conditions and diet leading to ill
health, leading to absence from school, and underperformance while there.
It is also often believed that difference in class culture can contribute to educational
success or failure. Douglas believed parental interest was the most important factor in
educational success, his research suggesting middle class parents showed more
interest than working class parents. However, his research has been criticised, as he
measured parental interest by attendance at open days, and job difference between
middle class and working class parents may account for this. These and other
finding came to be known as cultural deprivation theory, believing that those at the
bottom for the class structure are deprived of certain values and skills that are vital
for educational success, and that working class children suffer from a lack of
ambition, and fatalism. This theory has come under great criticism however, from
those who support materialistic reasons for leaving school early, and those who
believe
The Influence Of John Locke On Property
John Locke is looked at as one of the most influential philosophers of all time. His
works included topics like education, political philosophy, the state of nature,
property, etc. Locke s writing on property is thought to be one of the more
controversial topics in philosophy today and is criticized by other philosophers. His
Labor Theory of Propertyis also a part of the Theory of Natural law and it states that
the property will become yours if and when you put your own labor into making
that unowned resource yours. This essay will discuss Locke s thesis of how one
acquires property, the concepts that lead up to owning property in the natural state
and an opposing view from a fellow philosopher. The Second Treatise of Government

I lean more towards Hume because I personally consider Hume s logic of property
more realistic. When Hume talks about property not being in a natural state
because of possible harm or sabotage, I can easily picture the world from his point
of view. Today, people do acquire their own private property. A social rule is that
people who do not own the property, are not allowed to trespass or disrupt the
private property in any way, as it is against the rules. Locke s argument about all
human life having the same rights is just impractical. Sure, Locke may think that
if you put your own labor into something, it ll automatically become your own; but
that is not the case. A good example I stumbled upon on several occasions includes
that of both views from Locke and Hume. The example says to take the situation of
Robinson Crusoe (Crusoe grew up on an island and had no contact with other
humans). What would Locke and Hume consider to be Crusoe s property? Locke
would say something along the lines of Since Crusoe has worked on various pieces
of land and resources to preserve his own life, every single object or resource he
put his own labor into would become his own. Hume would go more towards Since
Crusoe has never known scarcity involving other human life, he would have no
concept of property since it is just himself on the island. Again, I agree with Hume
more than Locke because Hume s
Mercutio A Good Friend Analysis
A friend is someone who you respect and who respects you. A friend is someone
who would stand up for you. In that case, when asked the question, Is Mercutio a
good friend to Romeo? , Mercutio fits this definition perfectly. For one, Mercutio
stands up for Romeo when he is being verbally attacked by Tybalt. As well as this,
Mercutiois willing to look out for Romeo s best interests. Also, Mercutio is
someone who lightens the mood of situations and helps to cheer Romeo up when
he is feeling sad. Although it can seem like Mercutio is a bad friend to Romeo at
times, Mercutio has many great qualities that show his significance to Romeo as a
good friend. To begin with, Mercutio is a good friend to Romeo in that he stands
up for Romeo when in need. In Act III, Scene I, there is a scene in which Tybalt,
Mercutio, and Romeo are conversing. In lines 59 60, Tybalt says, Romeo, the loveI

In Act I, Scene IV, Romeo and friends are about to crash the party that the Capulets
are hosting, but Romeo is still sad from the heartbreak he experienced with
Rosaline. As a good friend would, Mercutio tries to look out for and convince
Romeo that there are many fish in the sea. You are a lover. Borrow Cupid s wings
and soar with them above a common bound. This means that Romeo should try
and fly to find someone else instead of Rosaline. As well as this, he gives advice to
Romeo for getting over Rosaline and himself. If love be rough with you, be rough
with love. Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down. This means that if love
plays rough with you, you must play rough back. Once you prick love, you will get
over your heartbreak and love. Thus, Mercutio looks out for Romeo s best interests
and gives him advice, which aligns him as a good friend to
An Internal Environment Analysis On The Leading...
1.Executive Summary
This report covers an internal environment analysis on the leading Exploration
Production company in India ONGC. It helps understand how the forces that drive
the internal environment contribute to improve brand equity and value to
shareholders. Being the highest dividend paying company in the country, ONGC is a
sought after stock by investors. In spite of the ever changing global scenario in terms
of oil prices, alternative fuel sources and political tussles, the company has managed
to be the most profitable ever in its history of more than 50 years. This has been
driven by leadership in technology and human resources and diversifying its
investments by growing its presence globally.
The vision, mission, value system, management, human resource, performance and
brand equity have all contributed for ONGC in delivering great value to shareholders.

changes which can happen not just in crude oil prices but also
Away From Omelas
Ethics are constantly regarded as the moral principles that influence a person s
behavior. Ethics are concerned with distinguishing between good and evil and is a
concept that persuades people to act in the most positive way. Each society has
created their own ethics where everyone is expected to follow certain values.
Deviance from each established ethics system is met with social cost that regards
deviating from the established norms as morally corrupt and potentially can be
justified actions that will have them return to the system or leave society. Ethics can
be societally agreed upon, to the point in which all individuals that belong to that
society agree that such values are true. Part of our innate urge to be accepted by

Christians believe that Jesus was the son of God and sent to Earth to save
humanity from sin. His crucifixion represents a utilitarian act; he is to die for
there to be reconciliation and salvation between God and the people of Earth. This
story is like The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas because there is one person
that is making a sacrifice for the rest of the people to live better lives. Since Jesus is
perceived to be the most moral person to walk the Earth, his sacrifice is seen by
Christians as one that saved humanity giving his teachings and system of morality
validity, convincing those who subscribe to that ideology that they should live their
life in accordance to his moral code. Christianity advocates for the self preservation
of those who practice his moral code and the punishment and eternal damnation to
hell to those who advocate otherwise. For instance, And he that blasphemeth the
name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall
certainly stone him (Leviticus 24:16). This set of ethical rules pressures Christians to
do right and murder any who dissent to the ideology. This situation is like stopping
anyone from helping the child in the basement in Omelas, there is a moral pressure to
prevent the masses from partaking in the actions that would cause

United States Should Be Banned For Residential Use
While playing on wood playground equipment as a kid, I never wondered if the
jungle gym I was crawling on could hurt me, or if taking a snack break would
make me sick, or even that I should wash my hands after because there could be
deadly chemicals on my hands. Neither did most people when purchasing CCA
treated lumber for their residential structures. CCA, or Chromated Copper
Arsenate, is a water soluble inorganic pesticide that has been used to treat lumber
for years. However, in just over the last decade, consumers have become concerned
with the possible health risks that could come from direct and indirect contact with
these chemicals. Even though CCA treated lumber is now banned for residential
use, this lumber is still be used for other purposes and health concerns remain with
existing structures. The majority of wood structures built before 2004, which are
not made out of cedar or redwood, are likely made out of CCA treated lumber.
Many now face the challenge of identifying CCA treated lumber in their structures,
finding a clean way to dispose of it, and replacing it with safer alternatives. CCA
treated lumber has a greenish tint that helps distinguish it from other types of treated
lumber. The lumber is pressure treated with CCA to prevent decay and deter pest
such as termites and insects. Pressure treating is a process that forces these chemicals
into the lumber. The lumber is placed into a container where a vacuum force pushes
the CCA to the center of the wood.
Arguments Against Doodle Armstrong s Death
I m here to press charges against Doodle s brother for Doodle Armstrong s death,
your honor. I m Madison Willie. I have strong evidence that proves he says things
to Doodle that may discourage him, he treats Doodle with cruelty, and he can be
selfish towards Doodle. He is guilty and should be charged with a felony. I would
like to start by saying that Doodle s brother could say some hurtful things to Doodle
that may discourage him. For example, One day I took Doodle up to the barnloft, and
showed him his casket, telling him how we all believed he would die. (2) It was a
poor choice for his brother to make and it caused Doodle to get scared and worried
about whether or not his life has all been a lie. He did not know that his family

After contacting the doctor that Doodle saw during the time where he couldn t
walk, he said he gave strict instructions to not let Doodle get too excited, too cold,
too hot, or too tired, and he must be treated gently. When they left the doctor, brother
disregarded these orders and caused Doodle to be in pain.(2) The definition of abuse
is to treat people with cruelty, and him doing this is an unruly thing to do and it is in
the Constitution that everyone shall be treated with respect and this certainly is
not respect. Therefore, charges can and will be pressed. Along with all of this,
brother dragged Doodle across the burning field. (3) We have a video taken by
someone else in the field that day. It clearly shows brother dragging Doodle by the
arms. It is on record that brother heard Doodle cry out, brother, brother don t leave
me but, I ran as fast as I could leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing
us. (6) It is noted that this was around the time Doodle was killed, and if he had not
been left there he would be alive right now. Your honor, brother just left him there to
die and he did not care, this shows cruelty and if you still are not convinced, I have

Scoliosis And Its Effects On Society
Scoliosis can be classified in many groups, and some doctors consider some of the
cases to be idiopathic, or in other words, unknown. The origin of scoliosis in a
family is from genetics being passed down from member to member. Idiopathic
scoliosis does not have any other health issues associated with it normally, and those
children with this condition are generally healthy with good diets and excellent
posture. Scoliosisis not a result from heavy book bags, bad posture or bad diets.
A rare type of idiopathic scoliosis in the united states begins at the infant age, where
as it begins at the age three, this is more likely to occur in European countries.
Juvenile idiopathic scoliosis begins around the ages of ten and thirteen near the
ages of puberty and lastly in adulthood, it is more visible and prominent after
maturation. Congenital scoliosis is another type that is due to abnormality in
bone structures and other birth defects. The bone abnormality is usually around
the spine area, and is caused in nearly 1 out of 10,000 newborns yearly. Also, it is
the least likely form of scoliosis that will occur in adolescent age. The symptoms
of this is the course of overall appearance of the spin and back, an uneven waistline,
one hip higher than the other, and the ribs being very visual on one side of the
body. Usually, if a child is diagnosed with this at any age, the doctor can do an
ultrasound around the kidneys to prevent any complications or problems. They can

Analysis On The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System
The integrated geophysical, remote sensing, isotopic and geochronologic and
modelling studies on the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System have come up with the
following findings and recommendations:
1 Geophysical studies:
Based on the integration of gravity, magnetic, and borehole data the structural trends,
uplifts and sedimentary cover affecting the aquifer behavior have been conducted.
The area of the NSAS is affected by several structural trends in different directions;
the most prominent directions are NE SW, N S, E W, and NW SE. The dominant
NE SW trend is associated with the Pelusium and Qattara mega shears.
The sedimentary cover shows a northward increase from less than 0.5 km in northern
Sudan and southern Egypt to more than 6 km at the Mediterranean coast. The
sediments thickness shows a shallowing of the basement rocks along the east west
trending Uweinat Aswan basement uplift which may impede the south to north
groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge areas in the south.
The NE SW trending Pelusium mega shear cuts the Precambrian rocks and continues
upward in the sedimentary cover; it formed deep structural controlled basins along
its zone, which were filled by high thick sediments of relatively high hydraulic
conductivities extending from the Kufra Basin in Libya and Chad to the northern
part of Dakhla Basin in Egypt. This zone could provide a preferred groundwater flow
pathway from the Kufra to the Dakhla Basin.

The Education Of College Education
College education has always been regarded as a national policy of every country
in the world. It created an opportunity for citizens to improve the quality of life, and
provide opportunities for all citizens to fulfill their dream to have a career and to be
a responsible citizen in society. In the 1950s, American educators showed that college
educationprovided for the fullest educational development for students to live
morally, creatively, and effectively in a society democracy (Sloan). For the 1990s,
the purpose of education was widely accepted with many purposes such as
developing intellectual, serving the needs of society, creating a workforce to be
effective, preparing students for a job or profession, and promoting a social or
political system (Arthur). Then, in a recent online survey, performed by the Pew
Research Center on June 2, 2011 at both two year and four year colleges, there were
many differences about meaning the college education purposes. When the two year
college students were asked about the purpose of college education, forty seven
percent students stated that the primary purpose of a universityeducation was to teach
the skills and knowledge; thirty nine percent students said it helped students develop
personality and intellectuality; the remaining students said that both tasks were
equally important. Meanwhile, the four year students participating survey showed
that seventy four percent students said that their college education was very helpful

Jack London s Observation Of Man s Foolish Confidence
e bound regions of the world are fascinatingly unique and absolutely forbidding. Air
so cold it whistles it s warning to those who dare brave the hostility of the polar
elements. It is a place where boys become men or perish by the unmerciful and
unforgiving power of nature. It s human nature to think wisely and act foolishly
for nature itself is full of hidden menaces. It is risky to underestimate the
significance of it s power. Nature can give people a lot of pleasure, but also many
troubles. If people do not respect it s laws or have special knowledge and
experience they can find themselves in a danger. People should know that very often
their carelessness and self assurance could lead to terrible consequences and even to
death.

Ignorance pushed the man in the direction of inevitable doom as he awaited a death
sentence for his inability to accept the ferocious indifference of nature vs. his
weaknesses. The man was given advice from an old timer that it is unwise to travel
alone in the Klondike after fifty below zero but the man smiled and ignored the
warning determined to make his journey (London 382). Because of his ignorance the
un named protagonist arrogantly thought of the old timer as acting womanish,
strongly believing that any man who was a man could travel alone (London 382).
The man would rather listen to himself than the wise words of someone who is more
experienced in this type of terrain. Because the man had no previous personal
experience traveling in the Yukonin such cold, he was unable to determine the
severity of the journey he was about to take. He did not understand how hostile
nature can be and his disdainful attitude toward it s forces exemplifies that. At the
beginning of the story, cold made no impression on the man. He perceived it as
something weak that it was easy to overcome. Fifty degrees below zero stood for a
bite of frost that hurt and that must be guarded against by the use of mittens, ear
flaps, warm moccasins, and thick socks. Fifty degrees below zero was to him just
precisely fifty degrees below zero (London 377). As the story progressed, the cold
started to wear at the man, inching it s

people and do the same tasks as them on a daily basis. For a long period of time I felt
depressed and unsure of why I had ACH unlike my siblings. No one ever treated

grew older I began to understand Achondroplasia better and have found ways to cope
with my dwarfism so I can live a happy and fulfilled life. According to GHR.gov,

conflict. The doctor has to determine in which way he is going to be able to

School Is East Campus At Rappahannock Hall
Purpose:
The goal of this proposal is recommend that the school makes east campus while
including Rappahannock hall to no longer be dry residence hall for those twenty
one in age and older to try and decrease the high DUI rate here at CNU.
Summary:
CNU student currently must go off campus to consume alcohol no matter the age
leaving them to find a ride or most of the time, drive. This leaves the students at a
high risk of drinking too much and then driving home from said off campus location.
As a twenty one year old individual the law gives you the right to drink and as college
students no matter your affiliation or social openness students will drink. Some
students may end up drinking more than others but in the end a student will drink
in his/her college career and CNU forces students to do this off campus making
things less safe for the individual. At CNU they have such a strict dry residence hall
regulation that it is possible that one time you get in trouble you are kicked out of
school. Due to the regulations students go off campus to a bar or a friends house to
consume alcohol. Most survey recipients say they often drive to said location to
drink and then because it is most convenient drive themselves home. Most students
reported that when they received their DUI that they were blowing between .09 .11
slightly above the legal limit but still a DUI. The students when surveyed most said
they would have rather just drank in their room so they did not have to go

Intelligence Correlations Between Brothers Decrease With Increasing Age Difference
Topic Background/Introduction
In this article, the researchers is the study how the age difference between brothers
affect the correlation between their intelligence test scores. They describe how there
has not been much research on the effect of age difference between siblings
(specifically brothers) on intelligence. There have been many other studies that have
shown that while both genes and differences in one s environment may create
differences between people, familial similarities are caused mostly by shared genes
(SSS. Studies using participants that were adopted show that intelligences seems to
vary with age. For instance, the correlation between the intelligence test scores of
young children who are not related is much higher than that of the same children
during adolescence. Other studies, using twins, suggest that shared environmental
effects are present in childhood and early adulthood, but are absent in late adulthood.
The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are usually brought into
affluent and well functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of the
entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and
identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the
effects of either the shared environment or familial genetics. The researchers suggest
that new data in needed to solve
Public and Private Sector
Private and public sector management differ only in context, but this difference is
significant.
George Boyne in his article Human resource management in the Public and private
sectors: An empirical comparison explains with empirical evidence how even though
private and public sector management differs in service ethos but this difference is
significant which impacts the tradition, culture and practises of both the sectors. Over
the past two decades many different interpretations and perceptions have come into
play on the similarities and differences between private and public sector
management.

Baldwin 1991).
The major differences between a private and public management is ownership,
funding, public interest and mode of governance where public organisations are
controlled collectively by the members of political community and depends on the
political authority for its activities. This results in the political forces having a
greater impact on the direct power of the public sector organisations. On the other
hand, private organisations are owned by shareholders and entrepreneurs and the
controlled or guided by the current global market forces. Public organizations are
funded by taxes paid by citizens whereas the private companies are funded by
customer fees and spending. However, Bozeman (1987) claims that, all organizations
are public because they are all affected by political authority whether they are public
or private. It is the political system that imposes more constraints rather than the
economic system.
Goal is another factor which underlines the distinction between a public and private
management. The understanding of profitability goes a long way with the private
companies having the main goal to sell their products in the market as oppose to
public management. As a result, there has been considerable criticism on the various
government agencies for their attempt to bring public management into line with
private management. For example, Stewart and Walsh (1992, p.
Romanticism And Romanticism
In Anna Karenina, Vintage Tolstoy said, He stepped down, trying not to look long
at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. If
he tags a girl likes the sun, which means he is not seeing anything else, seeing
nothing but only that girl in his eyes. Just a few short words that have great train
wreck coming and only those who are always delusions of lovefrantically, can claw
up such that verse. With a person who always adores love and follows the feeling
like me, the Romantic era got me in.
The major strides give people a better understanding of the human person the central
figure of art, a better understanding of the relationship between human nature, and
also society. In this context appeared more likely, many artistic movements, what s
including Romanticism, are present in the field of literature, painting, music...
Romanticism comes from the romances of medieval times, which to refer to knights,
heroes, and distant lands, unfinished love ... It s the result of emotional expression,
subjective mood of the people, by reflecting the dreams and aspirations of ordinary
people should rise above reality.
The Wuthering Height by Emily Bronte is a diamond in the treasures of English
literature. At the beginning of the novel, it was a little sleepy and we would see some
strange things in the house with Heathcliff, who was a very understanding person.
However, a little chapter later, we would become increasingly drawn into the novel.
Factory Workers And The Poor Conditions Of The
Industrial...
Initially, the Industrial Revolution instigated poor conditions for the working class,
but with progress, the conditions of the working class improved. Upon the
industrialization of Manchester, the priority of factory owners was to reach mass
production, and was not the conditions and safety of workers. To begin with, factory
owners resolved that in order to make the greatest profit from mass production,
they would need to employ as many workers as possible, in order to ensure that
production needs were met. With the limited space in factories, workers were
cramped together using machines that were dangerous. The wages for workers was
just a pittance, leading to the cramped streets for workers unable to afford better
living spaces. The filth of the streets exposed workers to diseases by the atmospheric
conditions, killing many off (Document 6). As these conditions of living in cramped
spaces and having exposure to illnesses affected workers, many of them died. In fact,
the average life span at the beginning of the industrial revolutionfor workers was just
17 years (Document 6). Considering that this is less than the average lifespan of a
skilled worker, it is evident that the poor conditions of workers actually shifted the
population. For many years, these conditions continued to negatively affect the
working class and the population of cities. As journalist William Alexander Abram
observed, gradually, as Factory Acts were passed, such as the Factory Act of 1844,

Summary Of On Thin Ice
In modern times, when individuals think about environmental problems, climate
change seems to always be at the forefront. Whether people learned through the Paris
Climate Accord or the internet about the devastating effects that a warming climate
could bring, most of society can at least acknowledge that climatechange is a hot
political talking point. Because of this, more and more research has been focused on
the effects that a changing climate could bring about. Research on the effects of
climate change range from the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and
its effects on global temperatures, to the rate at which glacial iceis melting and sea
level rise. This documentary, On Thin Ice, is concerned with the relationship between
a warming climate and the rate at which the Gangotri Glacierhas been melting over
several years. This film discusses the different effects that a rapidly melting Gangotri
has on water scarcity in Indian villages located downstream as well as the ways that
Americans could be affected by this environmental phenomenon. On Thin Ice begins
with the host, David Brancaccio, presenting the main focus of the film: the effects
that a warming climate could have on the endangered Gangotri Glacier. Brancaccio
then introduces Conrad Anker, an accomplished mountaineer and environmentalist.
Both Brancaccio and Anker decide to go on a long hiking trek to see firsthand, the
ways that the Gangotri Glacier has been affected by climate change. Dr. Vandana

The Buttercream Gang reached the climax when Pete came back home from Chicago
and was a changed person. He got himself caught up in theft, bullying, and other
unlawful nonsense within the town. The rest of the gang tried to mend bridges with
him but he did not want anything to do with the boys or the good that they were
trying to do. The falling action begins when Benny jumps back over the fence and
the fence falls on top of the Beast. Scotty feels bad for the dog and pleads for
Benny to help free him. The Beast has a change in behavior and shows the boys all
the baseballs that he has accumulated from flying over the fence. The boys of the
Buttercreamers decide that they are going to kill Pete with kindness. No matter
how rude he was to the boys, they would not stoop to his level. They would simply
just turn the other cheek. Finally reaching the resolution, the Sandlot crew grew

Software Developing For A Health Data Analytics System
Software Developing for a Health Data Analytics System This essay will demonstrate
the different stages and methods required to construct a software system for a health

be able to give an accurate output for the method of treatment, this will support an
expert s final decision. These real time systems are active knowledge systems, which
use two or more items of patient data to generate case specific advice. The
development of software is formulated in several stages this includes: Requirements,

Other issues must be brought into consideration such as: How large will the
networked system be? Who will use the system? Many questions like these must
be addressed to collect information about how we will answer these questions we
can investigate the current system using multiple collection methods. A
questionnaire could be produced to quiz current staff about how effective the
current system s features are, and we could ask for the flaws in the current system
to ensure the new health care analytics system fixes these problems. Another
method of investigation is to look at staff logs and work patterns so we can adapt
our system around how the doctors work. From all of the information we collect
from monitoring the users we must collate this to form a specification so that the
developers of the system know what guidelines to work from. This will prevent
any mistakes from being made and give a foundation for the structure of the
system, more technical details such as the processing power and the network
speeds will also need to be determined to find the correct hardware required so the
company can be cost efficient. The next stage in the process is the software design
phase, this is the part of the development where the software s structure will be
created in many aspects, here we will draw out the network and decide whether it
will be a LAN (Local area network) or a WAN (Wide area network) this depends on
if this system will be used over different branches of

because of the growing smog and manmade air pollution that clouds over the country.
While global warming and reducing our carbon footprint has become an almost world

especially air pollution or smog. A research team based out of California discovered
that a majority of people in China are breathing unhealthy air because of the

diseases such as cancer which has killed tens of thousands of Chinese people. Even

Who Is Don Quixote Insane
Don Quixote chose to be a knight errant to help others, to live an adventurous life
and to achieve fame. Throughout the book Don Quixote has trouble adapting his
vision to his environment and circumstances. He pretends the world is the same as
the way it was described in the books of chivalry. Don Quixote seems completely
insane; he fails to recognize people and objects compared to the books and real life.
Don Quixoteis a novelabout how Don Quixote perceives the world. He transforms
everyday objects into more dramatic and epic versions of themselves. Such are the
fortunes of war, which more than any other are subject to constant change. What is

Time Period In The Great Gatsby
The Time Period affects The Great Gatsby When reading a novel knowing the
historical background helps to better understand why characters act the way that
they do and why the storyline is the way that it is. A good example on this is The
Great Gatsby . The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald was published in
1925. The time period of the book affects the storyline and the way the characters are
portrayed. The 1920s is also commonly referred to as the Roaring Twentiesor the Jazz
Age. During the 1920s women were changing the way that they were seen in
society, by changing the way the dressed, the activities they participated in, and their
sexuality. Segregation also effected society. The rich and poor were segregated as
well as new money being segregated from old money. Also, even though blacks had
most of the same rights as whites, they were still looked down upon. Also, blacks
were spreading their culture through the Harlem Renaissance. Within The Great
Gatsbythe way that women were changing the things they did and the way society
saw them, the significant amount of segregation between rich and poor, and the
racism within society are all represented through the setting and the way the
characters are depicted. The 1920s changed the way women were seen in society.
Prior to the 1920s, most women dressed conservatively and did not partake in any
kind of drugs or alcohol. Women were seen as property of her husband and there for
were not living for themselves but

Descriptive Essay On The Experience In The Beach
With a great vigor, humanity delights in escaping reality, even if only for a short
time. Some choose to play sports, some watch TV, and others still choose to spend
their time reading. Withdrawal from reality links all hobbies together. Likewise, I
like to achieve this liberation by sailing. Imagine the windgusting across your body,
the smell of the strong scent of water in your nostrils, and the thrill of the breeze
thrusting your boatalong. Personally, I was astounded when I discovered this
microcosm twenty minutes away in the middle of the scorching desert.
Immediately upon exiting the car, the familiar tell tale smell of the lake hit me. The
lake smelled like a combination of a fish and algae scent that seemed slightly putrid
nevertheless, it did not detract from the experience. On blustery days, I felt the
zephyr blow through my hair and saw the telltale whitecaps forming on the water s
surface. On sunny days I saw the afternoon sun make the greenish brown water
glimmer majestically and reflect off of the glass in the high rise buildings.
Nonchalantly, I ambled to the gated boatyard adjacent to the parking lot to retrieve
my boat.
Casually, I sauntered just beyond the middle of the yard to the section where my
class stored the boats. Following a cursory inspection, I culled one that appeared to
be in satisfactory shape and pushed it out of the yard towards the lake. If I had luck
on my side a friend would also help me with this, nonetheless, I hold the opinion
Pros And Cons Of Purchasing The Louisiana Territory
Becoming president, Thomas Jefferson had to make a decision whether to go
against his moral dilemma or to stay true to it. Thomas Jefferson had just as many
advantages as there were disadvantages purchasing the Louisiana Territory. When
Thomas Jefferson became president he had a major problem to fix. In the early
1800s Americans discovered that Spain and France signed a treaty giving France the
Louisiana Territory which would give them the port of New Orleans and the
Mississippi River. The government was greatly concerned about who had control
over the port of New Orleans and the Mississippi River. To the government s eyes
whoever had power over the port of New Orleans and the Mississippi River was a
humungous threat to America. President Thomas Jeffersonknew that he had to take
action very soon. America knew that if France ended up owning the port of New

President Thomas Jefferson only knew that he was getting what he wanted to help
him out but he had no idea of what the land had to offer for him and his country.
For example, in the treaty between Spain and France, Spain did not list in the treaty
what the actual southern and westward boundaries of the territory were. Now
President Thomas Jefferson would have to find out from Spain what the boundaries
were for their new territory. Another problem in purchasing the Louisiana Territory
is that President Thomas Jefferson did not know what the land had to offer besides
the port of New Orleans and the Mississippi River. Since Thomas Jefferson did not
know the land had in store for him he sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on
an expedition to travel their new land. When America bought the Louisiana Territory
they did not have the fifteen million dollars that they needed. America decided that
they would borrow money from Great Britain with six percent of

Essay about Wage Compression and Symbolic
Egalitarianism
An organisations internal pay structure can affect the way employees perform to the
business strategy. Where a workers performance not only depends on the level of
pay they receive (Solow, 1979, in Alexopoulos Cohen, 2003), but also takes into
consideration their pay compared to workers above and below them, those within the
same occupational group, and the external labour market (Akerlof and Yellen, 1990).
Pfeffer (2005) argues that wage compression, which is the act of reducing the size of
the pay differences among employees, improves productivity. To gain competitive
advantage, organisations need to acknowledge not only hierarchical wage
compression (between management and employees) but also the differences between
individuals at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also a range of returns employees can receive; the psychological relational
returns (learning opportunities, employment security), and total compensation returns
which are transactional (benefits such as work/life balance, allowances, as well as
cash compensation and bonuses) (Milkovich, Newman, Gerhart, 2011).
However, the validity of Pfeffers argument is contestable. Although compressing the
pay structure supports fairness and equality, there is also the problem of creating the
opposite outcome. When wage differentials are eliminated, it may not be perceived
as fair and create a negative effect on effort and motivation (Kraft, 1994). A Swedish
study demonstrates this negative effect, whereby the higher paid workers morale
and effort subsided leading to lower outputs as they did not feel valued for their
skills (Hibbs and Locking, 2000, in Alexopoulos Cohen, 2003). Therefore, wage
differentials aid in distinguishing between workers abilities and responsibilities to
organisational performance (Beaumont Harris, 2003). Theorists have thus developed
a counter argument, that it is in fact wage dispersion that leads to increased effort and
performance (Lallemand, Plasman, Rycx, 2004). Instead of emphasising co
operation, Lazear and Rosen s (1981) tournament theory highlights the need to
differentiate pay, as larger variations are more motivating than smaller or equal
differences.

Bonuses should continue to be handed out to a lesser percentage of the top

Amenities that are already offered on the worksite should not be taken away
because this will have a direct impact on employees feeling about the company, but
no new ones should be added until it is determined that the organization is on track
to being profitable again. Gym memberships should still discounts should continue
to be offered because not only does it help employees release stress and stay in
shape; it also has the potential to save the company a lot of money on healthcare
costs. Phone bill discounts will only be given to managers and people who perform
above average about 80% of the workforce will receive a lower discount on their
personal phone bill or will be taken away for economic reason. It is important to let
employees know why you are taking this steps, letting them know that it is necessary
to take them for the company to stay in business will be of great help when it comes

To conclude I believe that by taking all the steps mentioned above JVA Corp. Should

Canadian Law Personal Statement
As a child, I was asked the famous question, what would you like to be when you

understand what the word meant and the responsibilities behind it. Over the past

an accepted phenomenon, seeing beggars on the road, impoverished families, and
other disadvantaged individuals. Unfortunately, some of these people are in this
situation because the society and the legal system failed them. The law tends to
recognize those in power and the wealthy, and often disregards those in the lower
class; although they are the most vulnerable and deserve to be protected by the law
also. Life in Canadagave me a different perspective on the law. In Canada, the law is

Predicting Preferences
Predicting Preferences
Prediction involves making a statement concerning the likely value of an event or
action uncertain or unknown at the time of the statement. Since the theory of
probability, (inaugurated by the French mathematicians Blaise Pascal and Pierre
Fermat in 1654), was developed to quantify uncertain events in terms of their
likelihood of occurrence, formal prediction is now viewed as a mathematical topic
involving probabilistic modeling. Indeed, the mathematician Karl Pearson said in
1907 that the fundamental problem in statistics is prediction. Prediction, however, is
usually not an end goal itself, but rather means to put probabilistic bounds on the
relative frequency or likelihood of occurrence of future uncertain ... Show more

Bernoulli resolved the paradox by postulating that people do not make choices
based on the expected rewards alone, but rather based on the value or pleasure that
each individual pay off is likely to yield to them. He said The determination of the
value of an item must not be based on the price, but rather on the utility it yields....
There is no doubt that a gain of one thousand ducats is more significant to the
pauper than to a rich man though both gain the same amount. He suggested there
was a function U(w) (called a utility function) which describes the amount of value
or utility that the individual gains by having an amount of wealth w. Rational
individuals prefer more money to less money, so U(w) is increasing, but the
incremental value of more wealth decreases as one becomes wealthier (decreasing
marginal utility or value of wealth) so U(w) is concave. Bernoulli stated that
people determined how much to pay for the game or gamble not based on the
gamble s expected value but rather it s expected utility. Thus, if x1, x2, ..., xn are
the possible outcomes of an uncertain economic endeavor or gamble, and their
probabilities of occurrence are p1, p2, ..., pn then a decision maker with an initial
wealth of W would make decisions based on their expected utility of their final
wealth, U(W+x1)*p1 + U(W+x2)*p2 +...+ U(W+xn)*pn. Using this approach, one
can predict preferences between two uncertain events by

Emiliano Zapata Essay
Emiliano Zapata, born on August 8, 1879, in the village of Anenecuilco, Morelos
(Mexico), Emiliano Zapata was of mestizo heritage and the son of a peasant
medier, (a sharecropper or owner of a small plot of land). From the age of eighteen,
after the death of his father, he had to support his mother and three sisters and
managed to do so very successfully. The little farm prospered enough to allow Zapata
to augment the already respectable status he had in his native village. In September of
1909, the residentsof Anenecuilco elected Emiliano Zapata president of the village s
quot;defense committee, quot; an age old group charged with defending the
community s interests. In this position, it was Zapata s duty to represent his village s

Zapata, a rather cautious, soft spoken man, had become a revolutionary.
During the first weeks of 1911, Zapata continued to build his organization in
Morelos, training and equipping his men and consolidating his authority as their
leader. Soon, Zapata s band of revolutionaries, poised to change their tactics and take
the offensive, were known as Zapatistas. On February 14, Francisco Madero, who
had escaped the authorities to New Orleans, returned to Mexico, knowing that it was
time to restart his revolution with an all out offensive. Less than a month later, on
March 11, 1911, quot;a hot, sticky Saturday night, quot; the bloody phase of the
Mexican Revolution began at Villa de Ayala. There was no resistance from the
villagers, who were mostly sympathetic to the revolution, being sharecroppers or
hacienda workers themselves, and the local police were disarmed quickly. Not all
battles that followed were this quick, however. The revolution took its bloody course
with the legendary Pancho Villa fighting in the northern part of Mexico, while
Zapata remained mainly south of Mexico City. On May 19, after a week of
extremely fierce fighting with government troops, the Zapatistas took the town of
Cuautla. Only forty eight hours later, Francisco Madero and the Mexican government
signed the Treaty of Ciudad JuГЎrez, which ended the presidency of Porfirio DГaz
and named Francisco LeГіn de la Barra, former
Diocletian Persecution In North African Religion
The progression of expanding Christianity beyond the empire of the pagans result in
problems. Regardless of the dilemma, Constantine s royal court guaranteed Christians
of triumph. Constantine held the first meeting of Christians. The grand attendance
was however, despondent considering the persecution that the Christians have
experience. This was do in part because effect that persecutions had inflicted of the
Christian society, chiefly during the reign of Diocletian. The effect of persecutions
cause separation, and the effect of such was mostly felt by the North African church.
The greater part of the parishioners of this church discarded Caecilian the appointed
bishop of Carthage. The parishioners disagree about the care that was given
Ethical Issues In Criminal Justice Summary
At the beginning of the video, the spokesperson indicates that ninety five percent of
criminal cases enter pleas and never go to trial. With such a large amount, it is
inevitable that innocent people will enter the criminal justice system. The individuals
in society expect prosecutors and defense attorneys to act ethical at all times,
however, this video highlights misconduct that likely occurs everyday. We see
numerous examples of ethical issues and dilemmas throughout the entirety of the
video, which can lessen the public s faith in the criminal justice system when these
problems are brought to light. Ethical issues are defined as difficult social or policy
questions that include controversy over the right thing to do. Patsy Kelly Jarrett
faced a difficult decision when she had to choose between a pleadeal and twenty five
years to life in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without telling the defendant or his family, the prosecutor and the victim s father
negotiated a plea deal. The deal agreed upon was a manslaughter charge with seven
to twenty one years in prison. The judge informs him that if he does not take the
plea agreement, he will spend anywhere from twenty five years to life in prison,
which in my opinion is a coercive tactic. Despite wanting to go to trial, Gampero
took the plea deal and was convicted. As a stipulation of the agreement, he had to
describe in detail what happened that evening. When the judge did not like his
answer, he in turn filled in the details which now makes Gampero look guilty. The
ethical dilemma occurred when Gampero wanted to take his chance with a trial, but
did not because of the harsher consequence that would be imposed. After serving
time, more witness came forward and attested to his defense, however he had already
pled guilty so there was nothing he could
The Unwritten History Of Slavery
Ophelia Settle Egypt, informally known as Ophie, was an African American
woman ahead of her time. She attained the educational status of less than one
percent of the American population, was liberal and accepting of others despite the
criticism around her, fought to end racism, worked independently of her husband,
and believed in limiting family growth. All of Egypt s beliefs and lifetime
achievements represent a new type of woman: a woman who refuses to assimilate
to her gender stereotype of weak, inferior, and domestic. Egypt dedicated her life
to social work through various activities. She worked as a sociologist, researcher,
teacher, director of organizations, and social worker at different times in her life.
Egypt s book, The Unwritten History of Slavery (1968), and the Planned
Parenthood Clinic in Southeast Washington D.C. named after her represent Egypt
s legacy and how one person is capable of social change. Egypt was born in 1903
and raised near Clarksville in northeast rural Texas (Ward, 2011). She lived with
her parents and older half sister, Sudie, for the first five years of her life. Egypt s
father was a teacher who valued education and emphasized the importance of
reading, writing, and oral presentation to his children. When Egypt was five years
old, her mother died. After this tragic event, Egypt and Sudie were sent to live on a
farm with their maternal grandparents because their father felt incapable of raising
two daughters alone. Egypt s
Kidney Stones
Has your father ever had gout? If he has, he probably has also had kidney stones or
Nephrolithiasis. Although gout may cause kidney stones, they do not cause the most
common form of kidney stones, that title belongs to hypercalciuria. Hypercalciuria
can form types of kidney stones like calcium oxalate, or calcium phosphate. Gout
causes uric acid based kidneystones. Other forms of kidney stones are cysteine and
struvite stones which are caused by various reasons. Struvite stones are caused by
kidney infection and cystine stones are due to a common disorder. The disorder
called cystinuria is the defect in transporting amino acids and causes too much
cystine is in the urine. The more common types of kidney stones involve calcium.
Hyperparathyroidism is when the gland over produces its hormone, parathyroid
hormone (PTH), that will increase the amount of calcium in the blood. However,
just calcium in the blood or in the urine will not cause kidney stones, they need
oxalates or phosphates and must form in the kidneys. The reason I specify the
kidneys is that if you consume calcium and oxalate together and they form in the
stomach. They will be dissolved and are less likely to form stones. People with too
much vitamin C, probably through a supplement, will have oxalate rich urine.... Show

Ketorolac decreases inflammation and aspirin will usually be used to counteract
and help with the passage of the stone. Although, if those are used, a lithotripsy
should avoided at the increased risk of bleeding. A lithotripsy is a procedure, in
which shockwaves are used to break apart kidney stones into smaller pieces. Various
factors may increase the passage of kidney stones such the size of the kidney stone,
enlargement of the prostate, or pregnancy. Surgical techniques have been made to
remove kidney stones whether through an incision, or by using a urethroscope to go
up the urethra and bladder to the

  • 3. Advertising And Marketing Operations Of Pharmaceutical... For decades, the business dealings of pharmaceutical companies and physicians has been identified as a potential conflict of interest. Providers have an obligation to their patients, and society as a whole through their work. It is my belief that the majority of providers seek to do well by their patients and the majority of Americans agree (Benson, Blendon, Hero, 2014, p. 1570). This good intention can be overwhelmed by deeply rooted human behavioral tendencies despite any tangible monetary value. Patients should reasonably expect that their providers are making medical decisions based upon sound medical knowledge and not advertising material. We will explore the role of a practitioner that gives rise to conflicts of interest and then... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the business ethics world, social responsibility is generally self imposed as a competitive mechanism and conflicts of interest are discussed within Emerging Business Ethics Issues in a recent and popular textbook on the subject by Ferrell, Ferrell Fraedrich (2015). We will keep this in mind as we discuss the provider pharmaceutical industry relationship. A relationship in which the physician is a public figure bearing social responsibility and the pharmaceutical company is a business that bears social responsibility in response to regulation. In other words, the physician can experience a conflict of interest in placing personal gain over the responsibility to her patient (Friedman, 1992, p. 245). In the same instance, the pharmaceutical company would not experience the same conflict of interest per se when it is operating within business parameters to influence the physician s choice to gain profit through marketing. The pharmaceutical company would be forgoing its fiduciary responsibility if it were not to engage in such practices when leveraged as a business entity. Especially if actions are classified as marketing expenses aimed at informing rather than influencing provider actions. What is personal gain in this conflict of interest? The debate over what constitutes a personal gain has continually been evaluated for decades. In 1967 Ruge described the

Throughout the twentieth century, there have been many changes made to the structure of the education system. These include the 1944 Education act which made secondary education compulsory and introduced the tri partite system of school, though the move to a comprehensive system of schools in the 1960 s, to the introduction of the National Curriculum in 1988. While official statistics have shown that all these measures have served to increase the overall levels of educational attainment (as defined by attainment of qualifications), both official and sociological evidence indicated that class based inequalities ... In a survey, he divided his sample into two groups: those who had sole use of household facilities, such as bathrooms, and those who did not. He found that the children living in unsatisfactory condition scored much more poorly on tests that those in satisfactory conditions. Reason suggested for this include poor housing conditions and diet leading to ill health, leading to absence from school, and underperformance while there. It is also often believed that difference in class culture can contribute to educational success or failure. Douglas believed parental interest was the most important factor in educational success, his research suggesting middle class parents showed more interest than working class parents. However, his research has been criticised, as he measured parental interest by attendance at open days, and job difference between middle class and working class parents may account for this. These and other finding came to be known as cultural deprivation theory, believing that those at the bottom for the class structure are deprived of certain values and skills that are vital for educational success, and that working class children suffer from a lack of ambition, and fatalism. This theory has come under great criticism however, from those who support materialistic reasons for leaving school early, and those who believe

His works included topics like education, political philosophy, the state of nature, property, etc. Locke s writing on property is thought to be one of the more controversial topics in philosophy today and is criticized by other philosophers. His Labor Theory of Propertyis also a part of the Theory of Natural law and it states that the property will become yours if and when you put your own labor into making that unowned resource yours. This essay will discuss Locke s thesis of how one acquires property, the concepts that lead up to owning property in the natural state and an opposing view from a fellow philosopher. When Hume talks about property not being in a natural state because of possible harm or sabotage, I can easily picture the world from his point of view. Today, people do acquire their own private property. A social rule is that people who do not own the property, are not allowed to trespass or disrupt the private property in any way, as it is against the rules. Locke s argument about all human life having the same rights is just impractical. Sure, Locke may think that if you put your own labor into something, it ll automatically become your own; but that is not the case. A good example I stumbled upon on several occasions includes that of both views from Locke and Hume. The example says to take the situation of Robinson Crusoe (Crusoe grew up on an island and had no contact with other humans). What would Locke and Hume consider to be Crusoe s property? Locke would say something along the lines of Since Crusoe has worked on various pieces of land and resources to preserve his own life, every single object or resource he put his own labor into would become his own. Hume would go more towards Since Crusoe has never known scarcity involving other human life, he would have no concept of property since it is just himself on the island. Again, I agree with Hume more than Locke because Hume s

United States Should Be Banned For Residential Use While playing on wood playground equipment as a kid, I never wondered if the jungle gym I was crawling on could hurt me, or if taking a snack break would make me sick, or even that I should wash my hands after because there could be deadly chemicals on my hands. Neither did most people when purchasing CCA treated lumber for their residential structures. CCA, or Chromated Copper Arsenate, is a water soluble inorganic pesticide that has been used to treat lumber for years. However, in just over the last decade, consumers have become concerned with the possible health risks that could come from direct and indirect contact with these chemicals. Even though CCA treated lumber is now banned for residential use, this lumber is still be used for other purposes and health concerns remain with existing structures. The majority of wood structures built before 2004, which are not made out of cedar or redwood, are likely made out of CCA treated lumber. Many now face the challenge of identifying CCA treated lumber in their structures, finding a clean way to dispose of it, and replacing it with safer alternatives. CCA treated lumber has a greenish tint that helps distinguish it from other types of treated lumber. The lumber is pressure treated with CCA to prevent decay and deter pest such as termites and insects. Pressure treating is a process that forces these chemicals into the lumber. The lumber is placed into a container where a vacuum force pushes the CCA to the center of the wood.

Analysis On The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System The integrated geophysical, remote sensing, isotopic and geochronologic and modelling studies on the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System have come up with the following findings and recommendations: 1 Geophysical studies: Based on the integration of gravity, magnetic, and borehole data the structural trends, uplifts and sedimentary cover affecting the aquifer behavior have been conducted. The area of the NSAS is affected by several structural trends in different directions; the most prominent directions are NE SW, N S, E W, and NW SE. The dominant NE SW trend is associated with the Pelusium and Qattara mega shears. The sedimentary cover shows a northward increase from less than 0.5 km in northern Sudan and southern Egypt to more than 6 km at the Mediterranean coast. The sediments thickness shows a shallowing of the basement rocks along the east west trending Uweinat Aswan basement uplift which may impede the south to north groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge areas in the south. The NE SW trending Pelusium mega shear cuts the Precambrian rocks and continues upward in the sedimentary cover; it formed deep structural controlled basins along its zone, which were filled by high thick sediments of relatively high hydraulic conductivities extending from the Kufra Basin in Libya and Chad to the northern part of Dakhla Basin in Egypt. This zone could provide a preferred groundwater flow pathway from the Kufra to the Dakhla Basin. 2 Climatically (GRACE CLM4.5):

They describe how there has not been much research on the effect of age difference between siblings (specifically brothers) on intelligence. There have been many other studies that have shown that while both genes and differences in one s environment may create differences between people, familial similarities are caused mostly by shared genes (SSS. Studies using participants that were adopted show that intelligences seems to vary with age. For instance, the correlation between the intelligence test scores of young children who are not related is much higher than that of the same children during adolescence. Other studies, using twins, suggest that shared environmental effects are present in childhood and early adulthood, but are absent in late adulthood. The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are usually brought into affluent and well functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of the entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the effects of either the shared environment or familial genetics. It is the political system that imposes more constraints rather than the economic system. Goal is another factor which underlines the distinction between a public and private management. The understanding of profitability goes a long way with the private companies having the main goal to sell their products in the market as oppose to public management. As a result, there has been considerable criticism on the various government agencies for their attempt to bring public management into line with private management. For example, Stewart and Walsh (1992, p.

  • 25. Factory Workers And The Poor Conditions Of The Industrial... Initially, the Industrial Revolution instigated poor conditions for the working class, but with progress, the conditions of the working class improved. Upon the industrialization of Manchester, the priority of factory owners was to reach mass production, and was not the conditions and safety of workers. To begin with, factory owners resolved that in order to make the greatest profit from mass production, they would need to employ as many workers as possible, in order to ensure that production needs were met. With the limited space in factories, workers were cramped together using machines that were dangerous. The wages for workers was just a pittance, leading to the cramped streets for workers unable to afford better living spaces. The filth of the streets exposed workers to diseases by the atmospheric conditions, killing many off (Document 6). As these conditions of living in cramped spaces and having exposure to illnesses affected workers, many of them died. In fact, the average life span at the beginning of the industrial revolutionfor workers was just 17 years (Document 6). Considering that this is less than the average lifespan of a skilled worker, it is evident that the poor conditions of workers actually shifted the population. For many years, these conditions continued to negatively affect the working class and the population of cities. As journalist William Alexander Abram observed, gradually, as Factory Acts were passed, such as the Factory Act of 1844, which

Whether people learned through the Paris Climate Accord or the internet about the devastating effects that a warming climate could bring, most of society can at least acknowledge that climatechange is a hot political talking point. Because of this, more and more research has been focused on the effects that a changing climate could bring about. Research on the effects of climate change range from the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and its effects on global temperatures, to the rate at which glacial iceis melting and sea level rise. This documentary, On Thin Ice, is concerned with the relationship between a warming climate and the rate at which the Gangotri Glacierhas been melting over several years. This film discusses the different effects that a rapidly melting Gangotri has on water scarcity in Indian villages located downstream as well as the ways that Americans could be affected by this environmental phenomenon. On Thin Ice begins with the host, David Brancaccio, presenting the main focus of the film: the effects that a warming climate could have on the endangered Gangotri Glacier. Brancaccio then introduces Conrad Anker, an accomplished mountaineer and environmentalist. Both Brancaccio and Anker decide to go on a long hiking trek to see firsthand, the ways that the Gangotri Glacier has been affected by climate change. Dr. Vandana

Many questions like these must be addressed to collect information about how we will answer these questions we can investigate the current system using multiple collection methods. A questionnaire could be produced to quiz current staff about how effective the current system s features are, and we could ask for the flaws in the current system to ensure the new health care analytics system fixes these problems. Another method of investigation is to look at staff logs and work patterns so we can adapt our system around how the doctors work. From all of the information we collect from monitoring the users we must collate this to form a specification so that the developers of the system know what guidelines to work from. This will prevent any mistakes from being made and give a foundation for the structure of the system, more technical details such as the processing power and the network speeds will also need to be determined to find the correct hardware required so the company can be cost efficient. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also a range of returns employees can receive; the psychological relational returns (learning opportunities, employment security), and total compensation returns which are transactional (benefits such as work/life balance, allowances, as well as cash compensation and bonuses) (Milkovich, Newman, Gerhart, 2011). However, the validity of Pfeffers argument is contestable. Although compressing the pay structure supports fairness and equality, there is also the problem of creating the opposite outcome. When wage differentials are eliminated, it may not be perceived as fair and create a negative effect on effort and motivation (Kraft, 1994). A Swedish study demonstrates this negative effect, whereby the higher paid workers morale and effort subsided leading to lower outputs as they did not feel valued for their skills (Hibbs and Locking, 2000, in Alexopoulos Cohen, 2003). Therefore, wage differentials aid in distinguishing between workers abilities and responsibilities to organisational performance (Beaumont Harris, 2003). Theorists have thus developed a counter argument, that it is in fact wage dispersion that leads to increased effort and performance (Lallemand, Plasman, Rycx, 2004). Instead of emphasising co operation, Lazear and Rosen s (1981) tournament theory highlights the need to differentiate pay, as larger variations are more motivating than smaller or equal differences.

He said The determination of the value of an item must not be based on the price, but rather on the utility it yields.... There is no doubt that a gain of one thousand ducats is more significant to the pauper than to a rich man though both gain the same amount. He suggested there was a function U(w) (called a utility function) which describes the amount of value or utility that the individual gains by having an amount of wealth w. Rational individuals prefer more money to less money, so U(w) is increasing, but the incremental value of more wealth decreases as one becomes wealthier (decreasing marginal utility or value of wealth) so U(w) is concave. Bernoulli stated that people determined how much to pay for the game or gamble not based on the gamble s expected value but rather it s expected utility. Thus, if x1, x2, ..., xn are the possible outcomes of an uncertain economic endeavor or gamble, and their probabilities of occurrence are p1, p2, ..., pn then a decision maker with an initial wealth of W would make decisions based on their expected utility of their final wealth, U(W+x1)*p1 + U(W+x2)*p2 +...+ U(W+xn)*pn.
