The Public Facilities Privacy Security Act
In March 2016, a bathroom bill, entitled the Public Facilities Privacy Security Act was introduced in
North Carolina and signed into law by Governor Pat McCrory. Commonly referred to as HB2, or
House Bill 2, this law states that within government buildings, like schools, an individual must use the
restroom or changing facility that matches the sex listed on their birth certificate. For transgender
individuals, this presents a problem, as their birth sex and the gender with which they identify do not
match. Several other states, including South Dakota, Florida, Tennessee, and Wisconsin have
introduced similar bills. Although these forms of legislature may seem of concern to only a minority, it
should ultimately concern anyone who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spokespeople for other North Carolina police departments have made similar statements (Michaels).
Even if such a thing were plausible, how would one determine whether or not to allow a particular
person into the restroom?
Consider, for a moment, people who are gender non conforming. These individuals are comfortable
with their biological sex, male or female, but choose to present themselves in a way that is not typical
of or expected for their gender. For example, a female may shirk feminine gender roles and dress in a
way that is considered masculine. Now imagine a scenario in which such an individual wants to use
the women s restroom. They do not look as is expected for a female, but they are female nonetheless.
Would a law enforcement officer request they present some form of ID or even their birth certificate?
Would there be someone on standby to examine bathroom goer s genitals, or check their DNA to
ensure they have the correct chromosomes? On the other hand, there are many cases in which a
transgender person is virtually indistinguishable from a non transgender person, and this says nothing
of intersex people who fall outside of the sex binary. The fact of the matter is that gender and sex are
often blurred lines. In those cases, the only way to be certain the person entering the restroom was of
the proper sex would be through the use of the extreme and

Unit 4 Business Communication Skills
The Internet has made it both easier and more difficult for people to communicate. It is now easier
than ever to send written correspondence; all it takes is the click of a button. But many people would
rather send off a quick email than pick up the phone, which means more people than ever are putting
even their quick, casual business communication in writing. If writing is not your strong point, you
may not be communicating with coworkers, clients, and partners as effectively as you could be. Here
are six tips to make your business communication skills better.
Never hit the send button right after writing. Even if you are not writing an emotionally charged email,
hitting send too fast can hurt you. You might have sounded a little more harsh than you meant to, or
you might not have written as clearly as you could have. Either way, ... Show more content on

People have difficulty absorbing long unbroken blocks of text. To make your emails and other
communications more reader friendly, break them up into shorter paragraphs, each containing a single
main idea. This will make it easier for readers to understand your point.
Don t be too casual. The Internet has given rise to a lot of casual acronyms and shortenings of words,
such as ur for your and u for you. Avoid these at all costs in business communications. They are too
casual for a business environment.
Consider your audience. Are you writing to a marketing exec, a programmer or other technical
employee, or the company president? Are you writing to one specific person or to a large audience
with different levels of technical understanding? You should always tailor your communications to
your audience. If you are writing to employees who are not technical, avoid specialized technical
words and break concepts down so that laypeople can understand.
Every email and communication you send does not have to be a work of genius. But it does need to be
easily understood. Use these tips, and your business communication is sure to

Figurative Language And Symbolism In Sailing The Byzantium
Literature is always personal, always one man s vision of the world, one man s experience (W.B. Yeats
n.d.). Such perspicacity is evident in the works of William Butler Yeats, whose collection of poetry,
The Tower, reflects his fascination with mysticism and the days of yore. The poem Sailing the
Byzantium illustrates how William Butler Yeats use of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the
parallels of ancient civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of
obsolescence and perpetuity. Yeats elegy, details a metaphoric spiritual journey of renewal to the holy
city seeking intellectual refuge within an artifice of eternity (Yeats, Lines 16,24). His use of figurative
language elicits both the somber and nostalgic tones evident throughout the poem. Metaphorically, the
speaker emphasizes the theme of obsolescence by alluding to his own physical limitations and concern
for his own mortality living in a country unfit for old men among ... Show more content on

Modernist poet, William Butler Yeats, use of figurative language and symbolism expresses his own
trepidations of aging and mortality, as well his longing to sail beyond the physical temporal world into
the antiquity of Byzantium. The holy city exists as an infinite elusive realm out of nature ; a mystical
place where a numinous spirit triumphs over the dying animal and through empyrean wisdom and
intervention, he emerges from the gyre...an artifice of eternity (Line 19, 24). Revelations 21:1 2
reminds Christians they too will journey to such place when the first earth has passed away...the holy
city, New Jerusalem, [coming] will come down out of heaven from God . Just as we have borne in the
likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven (1 Corinthians

The Interior Of The Schroder House
The Schröder House
When looking at the interior of The Schröder House I thought it was best to begin by analysing the
history behind it. The Schroder House was designed by the architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld. It was
commissioned by Ms Truus Schröder SchrÀder, and built in 1924 in Utrecht. The Designer Gerrit
Thomas Rietveld lived in Utrecht, the Netherlands and was qualified as a cabinet maker. In 1917
Rietveld set up his own furniture store, this gave him the opportunity to create furniture to his very
own design. He was part of an early 1920 s movement called De Stijl (Dutch for Style.) From 1930
Rietveld worked on his own as an independent Architect. He remained part of the De Stijl movement
until 1931. There he worked alongside Piet Mondriaan and Theo van Doesberg and many others. The
De Stijl movement was formed by a group of architects and artists who were greatly influenced by the
ideals of DaDa. De Stijl was founded by Theo van Doesburg. The term Neo Plasticism, meaning a
new plastic art was adopted by Mondrian to describe the types of work the movement members
created. De Stijl was based around the principals of fundamental geometry. On commissioning the
building of the The Schröder House Mrs. Schroder had three particular criteria; she wished her
children s bedrooms should be able to fit their bed in two different positions, all should have a door to
access the outdoors directly and each room should have access to the

Nothing Can Be Perceived and One Should Not Assent to...
1. There are two statement made by academicians which we decided to argue against to the best of
your ability: (a) nothing can be perceived; (b) one should not assent to anything.
Please critically assess the academicians assertion to the effect that nothing can be perceived and one
should not assent to anything.
 Before answering the essay question, I would like to introduce Augustine and the new academy
academicians (Plato s successors). Augustine is a philosopher and theologian that was born in 13
November 354 and his first language is Latin. He was famous with writings that influenced a lot of
people and helped in developing the western Christianity and philosophy. However, in the east his
teaching was not accepted at all. In addition, at age of 11, he started his educational path at madaurus
and at the age of 17, he continued his education in a Carthage where he started his education in
rhetoric. Furthermore, He was well recognized as Saint Augustine and was viewed as the father of
western church. Augustin most recognizable work and still read and appreciated till now are city of
god and confession. Augustine first vision into nature happened when he and his friends stole some
fruits from the neighbor s garden. Finally, He died in 28 August 430, so he lived seventy five years
old.
Moving to some of the new academy history, Plato originated the academy in 387 BC in Athens and
one of its unique students is Aristotle. Aristotle stayed and studied for about twenty

Stand And Deliver Themes
Stand and Deliver Relevancy Today The film Stand and Deliver follows math teacher Jaime Escalante
s determination to motivate underprivileged students and help them reach academic excellence. At the
end of this whole journey, the students are able to realize their full potential and grow from the
experience. There are several universal themes that the filmmaker is able to express through the use of
various impactful filmmaking techniques. I believe that the film s passion is still relevant today, as the
themes showcased throughout the film can very much be understood and empathized with by a diverse
range of students in modern times. One of the themes that stand out the most in the film is the struggle
to overcome adversity and push through problems in one s life that could otherwise get in the way
from achieving goals. In the film, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film, various students are shown to be quite vocal about what they believe they cannot
accomplish, and this mainly revolves around Jaime Escalante s math class. Many students claim that
math is just not for them, that they do not understand it and are better off without it. The filmmaker
specifically shows this through a scene in the beginning of the film when Escalante asks different
students a simple question on a basic concept in math and given in return unsure answers. The
filmmaker gives close up shots of the students looking down at their desks, seemingly unconfident in
their own understanding of basic math. The students at first resist trying to take math seriously, but
with time Escalante eventually succeeds at sparking their interest and showing them that they are
capable of a lot more than they believe to be possible. Plenty of students today deal with low self
esteem and may even limit their own advancement and achievements simply because they do not

The Assault Commentary
1 February 2015
In The Assault by Harry Mulisch, Anton is haunted by his past throughout his life. His past during
World War II consist of witnessing losing his family. This impacts him to the extent that his choices of
living life are influenced by it. From the excerpt of The Assault, Anton finally realizes what he has
done, in which he notices his choices are made from neglecting his past. He sees his current family
asleep and evaluates himself whether or not he should seek the truth of his past from a man named
Takes, knowing that if he does, he would have a different perspective on his life.
Anton is considering if he should seek the truth of his past. His state of mind is being compared to it
cooling off, conveying he wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, Anton s feeling of dangerous confusion makes him lack the ability to quickly make
decisions in critical times.
Anton wants to undergo with his decision even though he finds it to be dangerous. Mulisch compares
Anton s approach to the truth to danger, depicting something dangerous is awaiting Anton if he
approaches the truth. The audience s reaction to this metaphor would be Anton is willing to risk his
life for a new one, in which he cannot stand living a life without gaining knowledge about his past.
Mulisch uses fish to describe how Anton gets the paper with Takes contact information. The audience
sees the connotation, fish, is used to show Anton has made a definite decision, in which he chooses to
know the truth. The paper Anton has fish will provide him answers of his past, although it may bring
danger.
In conclusion, in The Assault by Mulisch, Anton makes a definite decision to search for the truth
despite knowing the knowledge that he will gain will change him. He does not want to suffer anymore
due to his negligence of his past, instead he desires to move on and live a new way of

Nelson Mandela Ethos
The speech I am analyzing is Nelson Mandela s speech, Apartheid has no future. In his speech given
on February 11, 1990, Mandela thanks all those that stood with him while he was imprisoned. He also
stresses there should be more of an effort to completely abolish apartheid. Mandela uses several
rhetorical devices to build a strong speech. Nelson Mandela s speech Apartheid has no future is
persuasive based on its use of ethos, logos, and pathos. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
Ethos is built through Mandela s character. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned in 1964 for treason,
stemming from his activities with the banned African National Congress (ANC) (Sawinski). When he
was twenty four years old Mandela joined the national African Congress. The ANC fought for civil
rights for black South Africans. During his time in the ANC Mandela was a part of a peaceful protest.
Later a new organization formed called the Congress Youth League, which was a departure or the
ANC and its traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second half of Mandela s speech outlines the goals and strategies that the ANC use in order to
normalize free political activity. Mandela also suggests ways to become better. He suggests an ending
to the state of emergency and freedom for all political prisoners. I reiterate our call for inter alia the
immediate ending of the state of emergency and the freeing of all, and not only some, political
prisoners (Mandela) This statement is an example of logos because these are realistic goals/ requests
that can be accomplished. Another objective Mandela states are the negotiations of the dismantling of
apartheid. Negotiations on the dismantling of apartheid will have to address the overwhelming
demand of our people for a democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa (Mandela). In this
statement, Mandela states what dismantling apartheid will do and it would address the demand for a
democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 11 1 1

Essay on Development of Colonies
In pursuit of national glory, profit and religious mission, England started to explore and conquer the
North America. Through the 1600s and the early 1700s, three major colonial regions, the New
England colonies, the Middle colonies, and the Southern colonies, formed and developed, and the
economic freedom from land owning drew people to the North America. However, during and after
the French Indian War, colonies cooperated to resist British policies and finally declared their
independence in 1776. The three colonial regions blossomed quite differently in terms of economy.
English colonists first settled in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Failing to find gold, however, people in
the southern colonies grew tobacco and rice as marketable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Plymouth, according to the Mayflower Compact, adult men agreed to obey the just and equal laws
enacted by chosen representatives. In Massachusetts, self governing towns were prevailing. The
congregational church and school were established in each town, and the church and state was closely
interconnected. The Body of Liberties issued by the General Court allowed for slavery and admitted
inequality. Freemen in Massachusetts elected their governor, but the democracy was confined to
church members, opposite to that in Plymouth where the voting did not require church membership. In
the Middle colonies, the proprietor William Penn appointed council in Pennsylvania. Male taxpayers
and other freemen elected the assembly, resulting in a majority of male population qualified for
voting. Each colony also differed in cultural development. In New England, trying to purify the
English church and society, the Puritans established the Bible Commonwealth. They believed in moral
liberty, which was subject to authority compared with natural liberty. Puritans were guided by the
omnipotence of God, doctrine of election and predestination, doctrine of covenant and doctrine of
calling. However, they were not tolerant towards outliers in the community. Puritans were gradually
losing control when religious heterogeneity increased as population grew. In addition, judgment of
religious and political establishment was inevitable due to Puritan s belief in individual

Sturge Weber Foundations, Sturge Weber Syndrome can be diagnosed once the baby is born. With the
most obvious characteristics, the baby will have a dark purple birthmark that covers close to half of
his/her face. Another symptom from Sturge Weber Syndrome is that it can cause neurological
deformity. Both of these symptoms are caused by the abnormal blood vessels near the eye and on the
surface of the brain. Studies have shown that this syndrome is not passed from family history, but the
only remedy we can do is to suppress it (Sturge Weber.org). One of the most amazing miracles in life

pharmacologic treatments for seizures. Most of the seizures from the disease are located only on one
side of the brain s hemisphere. Some of the medications include Carbamazepine, Phenytoin,
Oxcarbazepine, Lamotrigine, Levetiracetam, Valproic Acid, Zonisamide, Topiramate, Lorazepam,
Phenobarbital, Gabapentin, Pregabalin, Tiagabine, Diazepam, Felbamate, Lacosamide, and
Clonazepam. With the seizures being controlled with medications, it helped prevent future seizures
from 10% to 50%. Besides medications, there are also surgical treatments available as well. Early
surgery for patients with Sturge Weber Syndrome is to improve and prevent developmental delay,
refractory seizures, and hemiparesis. Lobectomy and craniotomy were recommended once being
diagnosed with the disease because doctors have found that early onsets of seizures can lead towards
mental retardatation. A procedure called hemispherectomy is also recommended to be given when a
unilateral epileptogenic region exist. This procedure is also done while the patient is still young. It is

Sex Relationships And Relationships Between Children And...
While it is possible for men and women to be victims of intimate partner abuse, the vast majority of
the available research focuses on women as the victims and men as the aggressors. The challenge is
that in identifying the many variables and results of abusive relationships, the data can be skewed to
favor one gender over another, and there needs to be more study into same sex relationships and
partner abuse and heterosexual relationships where the female is the aggressor and the male is the
victim. With that said, there is much that is currently being done for those who are in abusive
relationships, with perhaps the most important task being preventing relationship violence (Hays et al.,
2015). Introducing programs across the country that are specifically for students can help reduce the
incidence of domestic violence and identify those who are at risk for entering into an abusive
relationship (Hays et al., 2015).
Current trends in domestic violence Currently group therapy and getting the victim into a safe house
are the most used tools to help the victims of abusive relationships but this one size fits all model is
not universally successful in prevention and treatment (Lothstein, 2015; Nicholas, 2013). Group
sessions have been shown to be extremely effective in increasing knowledge and awareness of all
types of relationship violence while increasing the opportunity to have conversations on such topics in
many settings (Hays et al., 2015). For as effective as therapy

In recent years the importance of strategic alliance has grown rapidly as the organizations have felt the

to the rise of new entrants. Nowadays it has become a trend for different multinational companies to
increase and expand their business through effective strategic alliance. Centrica Plc is a multinational

companies but also extend their alliances with the consumers, stake holders, investors, suppliers,

Bazarovism And Nihilism
During the 1860s, there were new, different streams of thoughts that were emerging. In Fathers and
Sons, Bazarov was a nihilist, and represented the younger generation who believed in Bazarovism.
Turgenev s description of Bazarov and his attempts to change Nikolai Petrovich Kirsanov, a
Romantic, reveals what Turgenev thought toward nihilists. Bazarov s actions and thoughts mirror the
thoughts of those young scholars during the 1860s. Throughout his novel, Turgenev s portrayal of
Bazarov create a description of Bazarovism, a different and new type of literary type and thought for
Russia during the 1860s. These new literary and intellectual types of thought grew from the
generational difference between the fathers and the sons. As it grew out of a difference between
generations, Bazarovism is largely different from Romanticism, what the fathers believe in, and is
related to nihilism.
Turgenev, in describing what type of person Bazarov was, coined the term nihilism. In Fathers and
Sons, Arkady, Nikolai s son, states that Bazarov is a nihilist. Turgenev then describes the actions of
Bazarov, creating a new intellectual thought, Bazarovism. Bazarovism is mostly derived from his own
actions and views, but is also influenced by others reactions to the way Bazarov acts. As a nihilist,
Bazarov rejects anything unless it has been previously proven to be true. Arkady tells his father,
Nikolai, and Pavel, his uncle, that as a nihilist, Bazarov looks at everything critically. Instead

Managing a forest with and for the people: Community forestry and environmental public

1. Introduction
All across the United States, historical patterns of resource extraction have led to degradation and
fragmentation of forest landscapes. When a community depends on those resources, a local crisis can
emerge from this process of degradation. To reverse this scenario, community forestry became a
popular approach in the 1970s as a modern policy and practice (Baker and Kusel, 2003). This model
was based on a simple assumption: as local people already use and rely on the natural resources of
their forests, they are in the best position to conserve them. However, recent literature has show that ...

For example, anemia caused by HIV and drug toxicity from antiretrovirals and prophylaxis such as
zidovudine and cotrimoxazole is important in people on ART in contrast to the general population and
those who are ART naĂŻve. Therefore the approach to addressing anemia between these different groups
should be different.
As HIV/AIDS programs across sub Saharan Africa are maturing− more people are failing their first
line ART regimens and are requiring second line ART regimens− the programs should have strategies
in place to improve survival and to reduce morbidity while on ART [12]. In one part, these strategies
should identify those people at a greater risk of anemia during treatment.
We studied a cohort of Malawians on second line ART to describe the prevalence of anemia and
identify those individuals at risk of having anemia by assessing the prevalence, type and factors
associated with anemia in an ART experienced population that had switched to second line ART
following prior use of first line ART.

Phenolphthalein Lab
In this lab, we examined cubes of phenolphthalein submerged in Sodium hydroxide to see what the
effects would be. For the phenolphthalein, we used Agar cubes cut in three different sizes: small,
medium and large. The purpose of this Lab was to study the surface area to volume ratio in cells and
see how this ratio affects cell size. Phenolphthalein (C20H14O4) is one of the most common acid base
indicators used to determine the end point in acid base titrations. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is an
inorganic compound also known as lye. When exposed to each other, these two compounds made the
Agar cubes turn magenta (pink). Diffusion occurs along diffusion gradients going from areas of high
concentration to areas of lower concentration. So with time the NaOH diffuses from the area of high
concentration outside of the agar cube to areas of lower concentration inside of the cube. Once the
Agar cubes had been immersed in the NaOH for ten minutes, we cut each cube in half. The depth of
diffusion on each of the cubes was .3 cm. * The rate of diffusion for all three agar cubes was .03 ...

Cells need to metabolize nutrients and excrete waste in order to live. These processes need to occur
efficiently. On the agar cubes, the pink area represents the depth of diffusion and indicates how far
nutrients diffusing into the cell would travel. The percentage of pink area indicates how efficient the
diffusion is. The white area is bad because this means there was no diffusion into that region. In
theory, any cube with a white area will die since that portion of the cell would not acquire the
necessary nutrients. The small cube was the most efficient at gaining nutrients and getting rid of waste
as almost all of the cube had turned pink. In conclusion, the best cell size was the small cube because
it had the larges SA:Vol ratio and therefore, it had the most diffusion. Cells need a large SA:Vol ratio
to stay alive, that is why they are microscopic in

II. Introduction
Across the globe, the primary universal language that is accepted in English. To communicate
effectively and interact in corporate and industrial environment at international level, an effective hold
of language is must especially from students in colleges as they represent the future. But, there are
very few countries in the world which have English as their first language. Therefore a level of
difficulty arises for non native speakers of English to adjust in the international standards of the
language. Also, countries which do not have English as their first language struggle with the accent
and dialect of their individuals where culture becomes an important factor in the use of Universal
language English especially with use of slang words. This is an era of modernization and social media,
internet communication plays an important role in exposure to the western culture in other countries of
the world.
Relevance of the Research
The relevance of this research helps in analysing the formal and slang usage of English by Southeast
Asian students from exposure to western culture through different means of communication. This
study will help the researcher to understand different English colloquialisms inherited by college
students in the three countries that are involved in this study (China, Japan and Philippines). Thus, this
study will motivate the researcher to assimilate various

Flexible Staffing Essay
Flexible Staffing Arrangements
Options for flexible work schedules once nonexistent have become a reality, with benefits for workers
and employees alike. Job sharing, compressed work weeks, reduced hours, work at home, and
flextime have provided employees with the means to realize a better balance between work and family
and an opportunity to engage simultaneously in more than one endeavor, e.g., school and work, two
careers, and work and leisure. They can also lead to economic and emotional stress and to limited
opportunities for professional growth. This Digest examines flexible work options, including the
characteristics of workers who select them, the organizations that offer them, and the influence they

Temporary workers, those hired for a specific, usually short term, assignment, are also increasing in
numbers.Businesses that have cyclical staffing needs, e.g., retailers, construction companies, and those
that have unpredictable demands, e.g., high tech companies, are frequent users of temporary workers.
About 10 12 percent of Hewlett Packards workers, for example, are temps (Galvin 1998). Some
companies have such extensive needs for temporary workers that they employ temporary agencies to
hire, train, and manage these workers. One such company, American Precision Plastics in Colorado,
reports that 90 percent of their 180 plant workers are temporary (Lief 1997, p. 86). The results of a
survey conducted by the W. E. Upjohn Institute showed the following configuration of temporary
workers used by the 550 establishments surveyed for the study (Houseman 1997, p. 6): 46% use
workers from temporary help agencies; 38% use short term hires; 72% use regular part time workers;
27% use on call workers; and 44% use independent contract workers. Typically, these workers receive
lower wages and few, if any, benefits, thereby lowering employers costs.
These employer initiated flexible staffing arrangements, although appealing to many workers, are
designed to satisfy the needs of the employer. Flexible scheduling arrangements, increasing in the
workplace, are

Health Determinants Affecting A Population s Health Essay
This week s assignment is on how health determinants affect a population s health, I do understand
what health is which is being at a states of wellness or free from illness or injury. Or as close to that
state as possible because a patient can have a chronic condition and still be at a state of good health
just not as good as a person who is free of disease, injury or illness. And I know a determinant is
something that determines or effects the outcome of something. So a health determinant to me would
be anything that determines or impacts your state of health in anyway negative or positive. To have a
better understanding of what health determinants are I did some online research to see was I correct in
my thinking of what it means. According to Healthy people 2020, determinants of health is the
interrelationships among factors that determine individual and population health. There are
interventions that target multiple determinants of health which are most likely to be effective.
Determinants of health reach beyond the boundaries of traditional health care and public health
sectors; sectors such as education, housing, transportation, agriculture, and environment can be
important allies in improving population health. For discussion purposes, I chose to look at health
determinants of the HIV population. Population health is any factor that improves the well being or
reduces the inequities in the lives of people that live in a particular community. The five

How Did Plato Contribute To Geometry
Plato and Archimedes: Two Great Mathematicians of All Time
Plato is one of the greatest mathematicians and teachers of geometry to ever live. To some, he is
known as the maker of math. He himself made an academy that stressed mathematics as a way of
understanding reality. He founded this academy in 387 BCE. According to one website, ... he was
convinced that geometry was the key to unlocking the secrets to the universe. Plato had many
contributions in mathematics and geometry that helped in the past and still help in the present. One
thing that Plato did, that he probably best known for, is his identification of 5 3D symmetrical shapes.
The 5 shapes were: the tetrahedron, the octahedron, the cube, the icosahedron, and the dodecahedron.
The tetrahedron, which Plato represented as fire, is made of 4 triangles. The octahedron, which Plato
represented as air, is made of 8 triangles. The icosahedron, which is what Plato represents as water, is
made of 20 triangles. The cube, represented as earth according to Plato, is made of 6 squares. The

My UC Personal Statement

My mother would usually say Where s my handyman at? whenever there were something to fix.
Something about getting the knowledge of turning something useless into its original state just
intrigues me. When I was around ten years old, I started skating and it had me actually figure out the
board completely and learned how to assemble one which gave me more experience. Around
elementary and middle school, I didn t know much of what career path I would choose since everyone
I knew in my classes had their lives all planned out. I would panic when people asked what are you
going to be after your out of school? and I didn t know what to say so I just told them that I would be a

Summary Of The Working Poor
Michael James Ms. Phelps Pols 210 02 The Working Poor Essay The Working Poor is a story of hard
times in our lives, that can vary in times of the poor struggles, middle class struggles, and just overall
all struggles of everyday people whom have difficult times in their lives. In this reading we found
there were difficult things happening to people in this book in different chapters and nothing really
had a positive note from what the basis of the story had led us to believe. There is some of this story
where its chapter talks about money and how it is breaking down people s lives simply with all aspects
that are fairly difficult with money; such as income tax as its goes into how the people cannot do their
tax returns or pay their taxes, people being scammed out their money, little to no trust in banks, and it
even mentions certain tax company in its efforts to stress the difficulties faced. Another speaks on
some people life stories Ms. Christine, Ms. Debra Hall, and Ms. Caroline Payne. These women faced
many difficulties that it speaks about and it almost becomes a consideration to be a biography in the
story in this chapter really. Later in the chapters it brings on some hardships on the men in the story
where some of these men make difficult decisions and they are not good to be honest they bring
hardship to their families to the next level because these are times where men should have been

The Effects Of High Compliance Rate On Municipal City Of...
Research Design and Methodology
4.1Introduction
The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of the high compliance rate in property
taxes in the municipal city of Portmore, Jamaica. Taxes are of essential importance to small
developing countries as they do not have much needed resources. As further developments takes place
in the municipal city property values will increase, hence the amount of property tax collected by the
Portmore municipal council will also increase. This increase however, is not a guarantee that the tax
collection will be sufficient in the maintenance of the community due to the rising cost of goods and
services. Hence continuous voluntary compliance is essential and important as it most efficient for
both the tax payer and the tax authorities.
This section gives the hypothesis or research perspectives, the design of the research and the methods
that were used to gather the data.
4.2 Hypotheses/ Research Perspectives
My research perspective on the Municipal City of Portmore attaining the highest compliance rate
property tax collections in Jamaica are:
That the tax payers have recognised the need and importance of property tax to the community.
The taxpayers are knowledgeable about property tax and the consequences if not paid.
The local authorities are ensuring that the community is well maintained by effectively and efficiently
using the tax collecting in providing services such as timely collection of garbage, maintaining and

Machiavellian Prince Analysis
Socrates was a man who sought goodness and wisdom above all else, and would find Machiavelli s
concept of a prince to be a leader void of these qualities. Socrates would be critical of a Machiavellian
prince s character and actions for failing to meet his morally absolute standard of goodness, and of the
Machiavellian prince s notion of wisdom for conflicting with his own. Socrates would not be
supportive of the political system formed under a Machiavellian prince, the perpetuation of which
inherently clashes with his stringent moral absolutism and ideals of devotion to one s country.

In a similar situation, while under credible threat of backlash from the people, a prince following
Machiavelli s advice would learn not to be good and take the unjust action to pacify the threat to his
power, whether it be the agitated masses or angry nobles (Prince 56 XV). A Machiavellian prince
considers taking evil action as a viable step if a situation is dire enough in order to secure himself and
his grip on power (Prince 34 VIII). Socrates would denounce this mindset in a prince, asserting that
individuals must do no wrong (Crito 88, 49b). In stark contrast to a Machiavellian prince s willingness
to forego goodness and commit injustice for the preservation and furtherance of his own power,
Socrates pleads with all men to strive for goodness without exception in any case, including matters of
the state (Apology 65, 36c). A Machiavellian prince s willingness to waver on goodness would
warrant strong criticism from Socrates. In addition to condemning the unjust action of the prince,
Socrates would challenge Machiavelli s assertion that benevolent virtues can lead to a prince s
destruction (Prince 57 XV). A Machiavellian prince is willing to commit evil acts in circumstances
where he perceives that doing good works will have

How Did Greek Art Influence Western Civilization
Significantly, Hellenic Greece saw the changes in art from archaic descriptive to the idealization of the
human form. The art signified a more statement in the individuals freedom of expression alongside the
joy in the celebration of mankind. Such art forms such as the Kiritos Boy greatly show the unique
artistry and the representation of the human kind during the era. More so, art was used to signify
religion and their day to day activities such as celebrations and warfare. The artistry showcased the
beliefs of the people and how they had been affected by other individuals through their days
happening. In fact, this period would thereby lead to the development of artistry that was more or less
more descriptive of the character and image of the deity they believed they represented. Perhaps, from
the realization that earlier representation of idols and sculptures as shapeless beings had become a

Pierre Bourdieu s Contribution Of Understanding Education
Option 2: Pierre Bourdieu s contribution to understanding education. Introduction: Pierre Bourdieu
was born in the southern part of France. He was the only son of a minor civil servant, who left the
region to pursue a better academic opportunity in Paris. He completed his graduation in the subject of
philosophy from the elite École Normale SupĂ©rieure. He was teaching for about a year at a provincial
lyceé, before joining the French army and was departed to Algeria for two years. In this duration, his
interest shifted from philosophy to social sciences and after his return from the military, he attended

Hence, according to Bourdieu, education promotes reproduction of inequality in the society, as the
higher class hold a higher status in the social structure. Bourdieu s Theories The Logic of Practice
(1990) written by Bourdieu raises fundamental issues relating to human behavior. He aims to identify
why humans behave in a particular manner and how we are to understand the world they have built.
He discusses how such understanding relies on three vital concepts, practice, habitus and field.
Practice: Practice is in general what social beings do. They have different motives and intentions
which help in creating and transforming their worlds. Habitus is an essential part of the formulation of
the practice theory and is considered to be the heart of the theory. Habitus: Habitus is one of the
influential concept of Bourdieu s theory. It is the durable disposition and orientation which are created
by practices within a particular structural context. For instance, it is viewed that girls generally prefer
to specialize in biology over physics or mathematics. This is because it is considered that girls are care
givers and will handle and relate to the subject biology better than physics or math. It is an ingrained
habit that is developed due to some enduring social interactions which are transferrable from one
context to another. This shift can be transferred only in

Problem Of Virtue Ethics
The rapid changes caused new problems economic faulty, thoughtless and unethical decisions have led
to unpleasant consequences such as failed businesses, deteriorated relationships, and conflicts in
society as well as in organizations . To put in other words, the main problem is the lack of ethics and
virtues in business that have resulted in wicked outcomes which affected on only businesses but the
society in general as well. In his essay entitled Vocational Virtue Ethics: Prospects for a Virtue Ethic
Approach to Business , David McPherson concludes by proposing a number of solutions as to how
business organizations must overcome this problem that challenges to vocational virtue ethics. In this
essay, I focus on analyzing three of the solutions, to wit, having a clear mission statement and hiring
employees according to their willingness to commit to it, possessing a moral leadership, and reducing
the tendency to avarice.
Before moving on to the solutions, I believe it is pertinent to give some insights behind the theories.
McPherson s essay mainly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many theorists have tried to explain virtue. Yet, common sense seems to indicate that virtue is highly
moral behavior. McPherson bases most of his arguments in Aristotle s virtue ethic principle, which
implies that one must commit himself to identify purposes of human nature that are worthy to pursue
and fulfill those purposes through exercising virtues, which would then, establish a higher mode of
life/ Eudaimonia (2013, p. 284).
McPherson argues that a way of applying vocational virtue ethics to business is by acknowledging the
notion of work as a calling or vocation. He explains his perspective further by distinguishing two
types of calling, general and specific. From his perspective, general calling is what we normatively
ought to do, while specific calling is the particular way in which we seek to realize this general calling
(2013, p. 290). Moreover,

Biological, Psychological, And Social Factors
A bio psychosocial describes an approach systematically considers biological, psychological, and
social factors and their complex interactions in understanding health, illness, and health care delivery.
Biological factors include defective biological processes compounds that lead to biological
dysfunction and illness. Psychological factors are about the individual s emotions, behavior, and
mental processes. Social factors include social status and relations. These factors are all considered in
an attempt to understand the underlying factors of such disease. Sigmund Freud would consider the
social factors in their theories. Behavioral and environmental psychologists ignore the developmental,
biological or psychological aspect of the individual and argue that a human person learns to control
their direct environment in relation to their situations; learning their behaviors with the surroundings
their in. Without combination of other approaches to psychological problems, it is complicated to help
any person with the behavioral model. This is because helping a patient to learn positively rewarding
stimuli without understanding or considering factors like background or biological factor could be
meaningless. Biological approach gives focus on genetically inheritance and the internal body state of
any individual. This could be a good perspective in understanding such problems, but it cannot be
entirely relied upon to explain certain problems. A better approach that would cover

In India, parents choose English as the medium of instruction for their children because English is the
language of computers, language of business, language of science and technology and the list is

children who have been trained to think in their mother tongue feel depressed and agitated when they

The steps involved in activity based costing are:
1) Clarify the purpose of the allocation, defining why the need to allocate these costs exists and
defining the benefit of doing so.
2) Identify support and operating department cost pools;
3) Select an allocation base or cost driver for each support department cost pool based on a cause and
effect relationship between the support departments and the operating/production departments.
4) Choose and apply a method for allocating support department costs to operating/production
departments. The three most widely used methods are the direct method, the step down method, and
the reciprocal method, all of which will be discussed shortly.
5) Once the allocation of support costs to the operating departments is complete, cost drivers are
selected for the newly formed cost pools (production/operating department overhead costs) and costs
are then allocated to the units of goods or services.
Direct Method of Allocation¶
Before we continue, it would be good to discuss the three methods discussed in step 4. The direct
method allocates costs directly from the support departments to the operating departments that use its
services. Example: the personnel department might allocate its overhead (i.e., ALL of its

Raiders of the Lost Ark 57:33 1:01:00
Uncovering the Well of Soles
I have chosen to evaluate a scene from Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indiana and
Sallah uncover the Well of Soles where the lost ark is hidden. We open the scene at 57:03 with Indiana
leading a team of diggers up a hill to the spot where they will dig for the ark. As the scene opens we
hear the diegetic sounds of the diggers and commotion taking place in the background. We also hear
non diegetic music that will be referred to as the ark theme playing as Indiana climbs the hill and has
his men start to dig for the ark. The slow and sort of creepy tone that makes up the ark theme reminds
us of the continuing quest for the ark and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thunder and lightning and building anticipation seem to foreshadow the discovery of the ark yet
again, which we initially think is a good thing, however, the dark and evil sounds of the storm
represent bad things will eventually come from the ark and show us that in hindsight, the ark should
not be disturbed. Anticipation continues to build as we hear more diegetic sounds of thunder and a
spooky wind howling in the background. We see a shot of Indy and see the worried look on his face as
the storm continues to approach. At 58:56 Sallah informs Indy that they hit stone and here we see an
eyeline match from Indy leading to the next shot of the uncovered stone. As the workers continue to
uncover the stone, the diegetic sounds continue. The lack of non diegetic music emphasizes the roar of
the thunder and helps the view focus on the big find that is about to occur. As the stone is lifted and
the tomb is uncovered, we hear the diegetic sound of an animal howling in the background at 59:50.
This gives the viewer a spooky feel of the tomb. At 59:55 we see and hear a stinger brought on by non
diegetic music. The thunder roars with a lightning strike which lights up the opening of the tomb
which reveals a scary looking creature with jagged teeth. As this is revealed the non diegetic music
spikes and Sallah shouts from being startled which all creates this stinger effect. The stinger

Geometry In Roller Coasters
Math in Roller Coasters The main elements in creating roller coasters are physics and geometry.
Geometry is a branch of mathematics with the properties and the relations of points, lines, surfaces,
and solids. Speed is to move exceedingly fast, at different rates. Math is used to calculate the height of
roller coasters. Engineers calculate the perfect angles, heights, and the directions that allow roller
coasters to reach speeds without going off the track. They use some machines to test the roller coasters
and the models to make the perfect angles ( How Is Math Used for Roller Coasters? ). Designers have
to be sure the angles and the measurements work the right way before they go back to designing the
actual roller coaster. Roller coasters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Engineers must know the exact length and the exact height for the drops of the coaster, the cart that
people sit in, and the space that is needed for the people who are waiting in line. They also must know
the angles and the weight of the train to build coasters really tall. An angle is the space (usually
measured in degrees) between two intersecting lines or surfaces at or close to the point where they
meet. They must think about the slope of the drop, the number of inverts, the amount of turns, the
height, the speed, the length, and the amount of breaks that the ride needs. The slope and the height
are important features of coasters. They determine if the train will get through the track at a constant
speed; if they made loops or even bank turns. Length is an issue in how high the engineers must make
a drop and what angle to make it at. Operating roller coasters is a very important with math because
the person that is operating must know exactly what time to launch the train or else two coasters might
collide. Engineers must think about the amount of space that is available for a coaster. ( Roller
Coasters and Math. ) ( Roller

Personal Ethical Dilemmas
The first thing we as staff, legal assistants, paralegals, or attorneys can do, is educate ourselves on all
the ways the abuse may take place and what abuse may initially or develop into looking like. So, in
this scenario we are asked to identify the professional responsibility red flags, that should be
immediately identified and alerted to when Ruthann and Jay entered the office. To respond correctly to
this in an immediate sense, upon when they enter the office, I have to honestly say, I would have to
put my suspicions aside at the immediate entrance and maintain a neutral interaction with Ruthanne
and Jay.
To suspect these clients immediately, when they walk into the office that would not be an ethical
assessment upon my part as a paralegal/legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would not, let on that I suspected anything. I would maintain great eye contact. I would want to gain
as much information in letting the great nephew believe that I believed him and was interested in

the end, but I would still help her to stop it. I would do this by obtaining information to help identify
the nephew more so. I would keep in mind to do this interview in the scope of which I am able to and
maintaining no ethical breach to her. I would continue to maintain this is a normal process of estate

his name, address, social security, and driver s license number. I would keep asking questions about
him as much as I could and be watching for when he started to catch on to anything. If he did I would
stop there. Doing all this may help my supervising attorney turn this case over to the local law
enforcement for a more throughout investigation should they need it. If I let the client s nephew, know
right off I was onto him and the suspected abuse, he may leave with her and I would lose all
opportunities to gain information about him. He would leave and they will go somewhere else.
Perhaps they may never be found or caught if I don t find out

Theme Of Blindness In The Country Of The Blind
In the short stories presented blindness has affected each character in one way or another. The first
story that will be discussed is the Country of the Blind. In this story it can be seen that Nuñez was
being criticized for having eyes. He stumbled on his steps and even as he tried to explain the wonders
of the world that can be seen with the eyes, he could not be understood. He watched these people go
on about their everyday lives using only their four senses and he was amazed with how much they
have been able to adapt to being blind. In this story a social issue that can be identified is stereotyping.
This can be seen in the character of Nuñez, who thinks that because townspeople are blind, that they
have a hard time going about their day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this story it can be seen that the wealthy man was being stereotypical of the unkempt man. Not
believing that the man made diamonds for a living. But despite this, the wealthy man was convinced
that he was not a thief and even gave his card to this man to call in times of need. Although the
wealthy man is stereotypical of the unkempt man, blindness here can be seen in a positive light as he
still offered to help the man, believing in his honesty but not his work. This shows that despite
blindness being a hindrance for the wealthy man to trust the unkempt man, it still paved way for him
to help the diamond maker even though he did not know what happened to him in the future, he still
answered his calls/messages and tried to help him as best he could despite being skeptical of the
nature of his work or if he even was alive. In the end, he even doubted himself if he made the right
decision of letting the unkempt man walk away. Here, blindness can be seen as a sort of what if. What
if he did believe the man? What if he did buy that diamond? These questions can only be answered
now by the unkempt man should he return and show himself to the wealthy man ever

Sigmund Freud s Five Lectures On Psychoanalysis
In Sigmund Freud s Five Lectures on Psychoanalysis, he introduces theories regarding repressed
memories as a source for mental disturbances and methods of retrieving these memories. Freud
introduces techniques such as dream interpretation, word association, and hypnosis as methods for
treating symptoms of mental disturbances; it is for these discoveries that Sigmund Freud is considered
the father of psychoanalysis. According to neuropsychologist Paul Broks, Freud might also be
considered one of the founders of neuropsychology (Broks 1). In Paul Broks essay The Ego Trip:
Denial, Defense Mechanisms, Repression, Broks states that he believe that because many of Freud s

They cannot escape from the past and neglect present reality in its favor (CP 73). Not everyone can

Freud is held most famous for introducing psychoanalysis as a method of mental health treatment.
Psychoanalysis is a psychological theory that investigates the conscious and subconscious minds with
the goal of treating mental disturbances. Psychoanalysis essentially retrieves a patient s repressed
feelings and fears to the surface with techniques such as hypnosis, word association, dream
interpretation, and hesitations and fumbles. Although Freud was not originally a fan of hypnosis, it
was theorized to be an effective of way of channeling the subconscious mind. Word associations are
the first things that come into mind. It goes straight through the id, so there is no time to channel the
ego or superego. In other words, when someone says the first word that goes through their mind, it
gives Freud a way to see into their subconscious mind and discover the trauma that the patient may
have experienced. The patient does not have the opportunity to over think about what he is saying.
According to Freud, dreams arouse feelings that are disguised and the unconscious mind can be
investigated by tracking and interpreting dreams. An example of a hesitation or fumble is a Freudian
slip, which is when someone

A Software Implementation of Delayed LMS Adaptive Filter for Noise Cancellation
Prajakta P. Bharadkar, Mrs.Rohita P. Patil
Abstract Noise in signal records is caused by various factors which increase the difficulty in analyzing
the signal and to obtain proper information. To design specific filters to decrease such noises in signal
records is necessary. Hence efficient architecture of Delayed LMS (DLMS) algorithm is proposed
which supports pipelining and avoid long critical path. A novel partial product generator and a strategy
for optimized balanced pipelining across the time consuming combinational blocks of the structure are
used. It also concentrates on minimizing the adaption delay and area. The proposed system is
implemented in verilog HDL language using Xilinx 14.2 and simulated using Modelsim simulator.
Index Terms Noise, Adaptive Filter, DLMS Algorithm, Critical Path, Pipelining, Verilog HDL.
INTRODUCTION
The signals are affected with noise and loss important information. Hence, the signals have to be
cleaned up with digital signal processing tools before they are stored, transmitted, or played out. A
variety of noise cancellation algorithms have been proposed in the literature. This can be achieved in
many different ways, such as beam forming, adaptive, temporal, spatial temporal filtering, etc. One of
the most widely used techniques is Lest Mean Square (LMS) adaptive filtering. It restores the desired
signal by passing the noisy signal through a Finite

St. Louis Narrative
Louie...Louie!! She shouted at him. His attention was elsewhere, and she knew every day around this
time she came second, but she couldn t help but call his name. Louie, answer me. What? he barked as
he finally turned towards her. As he loomed over her, standing at the foot of their bed, buried in his
cellphone, she got her first good look at him for the day. She took in his ragged demeanor; his dirty
worn out clothes too large for his scrawny frame. Through a tear in his pants she could see a cut on his
leg, no doubt attained by begging on the streets of St. Louis. She never saw him do it anymore but
there was no doubt in her mind that he had kept that habit, among others. His disheveled black hair
was covered by a grimy nondescript ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Although not intentional, he hit her hard enough to knock her backwards onto the bed. Louie looked at

She stormed off to the bathroom, leaving Lou to momentarily have his attention undividedly focused

phone in his hand, and began dialing the number he had memorized by heart. It rang twice, then a man

Analysis Of The Book I Am
At the beginning of the novel, I am immediately implanted a general impression of McTeague, a
clumsily single minded giant, who operates his own dental practice and goes about his daily routine
with satisfaction: he would sit at the bay window (1) reading the paper (1) and [gorging] with steam
beer (1) and even play regularly on his concertina. Moving his immense limbs (2) slowly and
ponderously, McTeague looks like a draught horse, immensely strong, stupid, docile, obedient (3).
Worse than that, his mind was as his body, heavy, slow to act, sluggish (2). But thanks to his barbaric
mind, he is not saddened by his terrible appearance; instead he feels that his life is quite a success with
the dental practice guaranteeing him a stable income, that he could hope for nothing better (3). He is
never fed up with his repetitive days, and the only enjoyment in his tedious life probably is to
appreciate the panorama of the urban street from his bay window, where the world goes past (6). No
matter the various shops or people from all walks of life, from seven o clock in the morning to eleven
in the evening, never fail to interest him. Besides that, the other way that could connect McTeague
with the outside world is Marcus. Unlike his friend, McTeague is introversive and indifferent to the
society and neighborhood, knowing nothing except for his routine. Therefore, he is frequently
bewildered by Marcus while listening to his political tirade with admiration; but he

Themes Of The Lottery And First They Came
Both The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and First They Came by Martin Niemoller have a theme of
following the crowd can have disastrous consequences, but they do it in different ways. The short
story The Lottery is a story about a small village on a nice and sunny day. Once every year they hold a
lottery by drawing names out of a black box. Whoever wins the lottery is then stoned to death. In the
poem First They Came the author speaks about his own experiences in concentration camps. He says
how they came for certain groups of people then for him. Both of the text deal with disastrous
consequences by following the crowd, however they are done is different ways.
For one thing, the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson has a theme of following the crowd can
have disastrous consequences. The story is written in 3rd person point of view, that may not seem like
a reason but because of that you can understand how more than one person feels. The story declares, It
isn t fair, it isn t right. That was said by Tessie Hutchinson right before she was stoned to death, with
the 3rd person point of view, we are able to know how she feels as well as the narrator. Also, the story
has that theme because only one person is killed every year opposed to a bunch of people. The Lottery
states, Then they were upon her. This shows that only Tessie was being stoned to death. Another
reason The Lottery is different than Fist They Came is because it is written as a fictional

  • 2. The Public Facilities Privacy Security Act In March 2016, a bathroom bill, entitled the Public Facilities Privacy Security Act was introduced in North Carolina and signed into law by Governor Pat McCrory. Commonly referred to as HB2, or House Bill 2, this law states that within government buildings, like schools, an individual must use the restroom or changing facility that matches the sex listed on their birth certificate. For transgender individuals, this presents a problem, as their birth sex and the gender with which they identify do not match. Several other states, including South Dakota, Florida, Tennessee, and Wisconsin have introduced similar bills. Although these forms of legislature may seem of concern to only a minority, it should ultimately concern anyone who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spokespeople for other North Carolina police departments have made similar statements (Michaels). Even if such a thing were plausible, how would one determine whether or not to allow a particular person into the restroom? Consider, for a moment, people who are gender non conforming. These individuals are comfortable with their biological sex, male or female, but choose to present themselves in a way that is not typical of or expected for their gender. For example, a female may shirk feminine gender roles and dress in a way that is considered masculine. Now imagine a scenario in which such an individual wants to use the women s restroom. They do not look as is expected for a female, but they are female nonetheless. Would a law enforcement officer request they present some form of ID or even their birth certificate? Would there be someone on standby to examine bathroom goer s genitals, or check their DNA to ensure they have the correct chromosomes? On the other hand, there are many cases in which a transgender person is virtually indistinguishable from a non transgender person, and this says nothing of intersex people who fall outside of the sex binary. The fact of the matter is that gender and sex are often blurred lines. In those cases, the only way to be certain the person entering the restroom was of the proper sex would be through the use of the extreme and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Unit 4 Business Communication Skills The Internet has made it both easier and more difficult for people to communicate. It is now easier than ever to send written correspondence; all it takes is the click of a button. But many people would rather send off a quick email than pick up the phone, which means more people than ever are putting even their quick, casual business communication in writing. If writing is not your strong point, you may not be communicating with coworkers, clients, and partners as effectively as you could be. Here are six tips to make your business communication skills better. Never hit the send button right after writing. Even if you are not writing an emotionally charged email, hitting send too fast can hurt you. You might have sounded a little more harsh than you meant to, or you might not have written as clearly as you could have. Either way, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People have difficulty absorbing long unbroken blocks of text. To make your emails and other communications more reader friendly, break them up into shorter paragraphs, each containing a single main idea. This will make it easier for readers to understand your point. Don t be too casual. The Internet has given rise to a lot of casual acronyms and shortenings of words, such as ur for your and u for you. Avoid these at all costs in business communications. They are too casual for a business environment. Consider your audience. Are you writing to a marketing exec, a programmer or other technical employee, or the company president? Are you writing to one specific person or to a large audience with different levels of technical understanding? You should always tailor your communications to your audience. If you are writing to employees who are not technical, avoid specialized technical words and break concepts down so that laypeople can understand. Every email and communication you send does not have to be a work of genius. But it does need to be easily understood. Use these tips, and your business communication is sure to ... • 4. Figurative Language And Symbolism In Sailing The Byzantium Literature is always personal, always one man s vision of the world, one man s experience (W.B. Yeats n.d.). Such perspicacity is evident in the works of William Butler Yeats, whose collection of poetry, The Tower, reflects his fascination with mysticism and the days of yore. The poem Sailing the Byzantium illustrates how William Butler Yeats use of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the parallels of ancient civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of obsolescence and perpetuity. Yeats elegy, details a metaphoric spiritual journey of renewal to the holy city seeking intellectual refuge within an artifice of eternity (Yeats, Lines 16,24). His use of figurative language elicits both the somber and nostalgic tones evident throughout the poem. Metaphorically, the speaker emphasizes the theme of obsolescence by alluding to his own physical limitations and concern for his own mortality living in a country unfit for old men among ... • 5. The Interior Of The Schroder House The Schröder House When looking at the interior of The Schröder House I thought it was best to begin by analysing the history behind it. The Schroder House was designed by the architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld. It was commissioned by Ms Truus Schröder SchrĂ€der, and built in 1924 in Utrecht. The Designer Gerrit Thomas Rietveld lived in Utrecht, the Netherlands and was qualified as a cabinet maker. In 1917 Rietveld set up his own furniture store, this gave him the opportunity to create furniture to his very own design. He was part of an early 1920 s movement called De Stijl (Dutch for Style.) From 1930 Rietveld worked on his own as an independent Architect. He remained part of the De Stijl movement until 1931. There he worked alongside Piet Mondriaan and Theo van Doesberg and many others. The De Stijl movement was formed by a group of architects and artists who were greatly influenced by the ideals of DaDa. De Stijl was founded by Theo van Doesburg. The term Neo Plasticism, meaning a new plastic art was adopted by Mondrian to describe the types of work the movement members created. De Stijl was based around the principals of fundamental geometry. On commissioning the building of the The Schröder House Mrs. Schroder had three particular criteria; she wished her children s bedrooms should be able to fit their bed in two different positions, all should have a door to access the outdoors directly and each room should have access to the ... • 6. Nothing Can Be Perceived and One Should Not Assent to... 1. There are two statement made by academicians which we decided to argue against to the best of your ability: (a) nothing can be perceived; (b) one should not assent to anything. Please critically assess the academicians assertion to the effect that nothing can be perceived and one should not assent to anything.  Before answering the essay question, I would like to introduce Augustine and the new academy academicians (Plato s successors). Augustine is a philosopher and theologian that was born in 13 November 354 and his first language is Latin. He was famous with writings that influenced a lot of people and helped in developing the western Christianity and philosophy. However, in the east his teaching was not accepted at all. In addition, at age of 11, he started his educational path at madaurus and at the age of 17, he continued his education in a Carthage where he started his education in rhetoric. Furthermore, He was well recognized as Saint Augustine and was viewed as the father of western church. Augustin most recognizable work and still read and appreciated till now are city of god and confession. Augustine first vision into nature happened when he and his friends stole some fruits from the neighbor s garden. Finally, He died in 28 August 430, so he lived seventy five years old. Moving to some of the new academy history, Plato originated the academy in 387 BC in Athens and one of its unique students is Aristotle. Aristotle stayed and studied for about twenty ... • 7. Stand And Deliver Themes Stand and Deliver Relevancy Today The film Stand and Deliver follows math teacher Jaime Escalante s determination to motivate underprivileged students and help them reach academic excellence. At the end of this whole journey, the students are able to realize their full potential and grow from the experience. There are several universal themes that the filmmaker is able to express through the use of various impactful filmmaking techniques. I believe that the film s passion is still relevant today, as the themes showcased throughout the film can very much be understood and empathized with by a diverse range of students in modern times. One of the themes that stand out the most in the film is the struggle to overcome adversity and push through problems in one s life that could otherwise get in the way from achieving goals. In the film, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film, various students are shown to be quite vocal about what they believe they cannot accomplish, and this mainly revolves around Jaime Escalante s math class. Many students claim that math is just not for them, that they do not understand it and are better off without it. The filmmaker specifically shows this through a scene in the beginning of the film when Escalante asks different students a simple question on a basic concept in math and given in return unsure answers. The filmmaker gives close up shots of the students looking down at their desks, seemingly unconfident in their own understanding of basic math. The students at first resist trying to take math seriously, but with time Escalante eventually succeeds at sparking their interest and showing them that they are capable of a lot more than they believe to be possible. Plenty of students today deal with low self esteem and may even limit their own advancement and achievements simply because they do not believe in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The audience s reaction to this metaphor would be Anton is willing to risk his life for a new one, in which he cannot stand living a life without gaining knowledge about his past. In his speech given on February 11, 1990, Mandela thanks all those that stood with him while he was imprisoned. He also stresses there should be more of an effort to completely abolish apartheid. Mandela uses several rhetorical devices to build a strong speech. Nelson Mandela s speech Apartheid has no future is persuasive based on its use of ethos, logos, and pathos. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Ethos is built through Mandela s character. Through the 1600s and the early 1700s, three major colonial regions, the New England colonies, the Middle colonies, and the Southern colonies, formed and developed, and the economic freedom from land owning drew people to the North America. However, during and after the French Indian War, colonies cooperated to resist British policies and finally declared their independence in 1776. Freemen in Massachusetts elected their governor, but the democracy was confined to church members, opposite to that in Plymouth where the voting did not require church membership. Male taxpayers and other freemen elected the assembly, resulting in a majority of male population qualified for voting. Each colony also differed in cultural development. In New England, trying to purify the English church and society, the Puritans established the Bible Commonwealth. They believed in moral liberty, which was subject to authority compared with natural liberty. Puritans were guided by the omnipotence of God, doctrine of election and predestination, doctrine of covenant and doctrine of calling. While it is possible for men and women to be victims of intimate partner abuse, the vast majority of the available research focuses on women as the victims and men as the aggressors. The challenge is that in identifying the many variables and results of abusive relationships, the data can be skewed to favor one gender over another, and there needs to be more study into same sex relationships and partner abuse and heterosexual relationships where the female is the aggressor and the male is the victim. With that said, there is much that is currently being done for those who are in abusive relationships, with perhaps the most important task being preventing relationship violence (Hays et al., 2015). Introducing programs across the country that are specifically for students can help reduce the incidence of domestic violence and identify those who are at risk for entering into an abusive relationship (Hays et al., 2015). Current trends in domestic violence Currently group therapy and getting the victim into a safe house are the most used tools to help the victims of abusive relationships but this one size fits all model is not universally successful in prevention and treatment (Lothstein, 2015; Nicholas, 2013). • 16. Bazarovism And Nihilism During the 1860s, there were new, different streams of thoughts that were emerging. In Fathers and Sons, Bazarov was a nihilist, and represented the younger generation who believed in Bazarovism. Turgenev s description of Bazarov and his attempts to change Nikolai Petrovich Kirsanov, a Romantic, reveals what Turgenev thought toward nihilists. Bazarov s actions and thoughts mirror the thoughts of those young scholars during the 1860s. Throughout his novel, Turgenev s portrayal of Bazarov create a description of Bazarovism, a different and new type of literary type and thought for Russia during the 1860s. These new literary and intellectual types of thought grew from the generational difference between the fathers and the sons. As it grew out of a difference between generations, Bazarovism is largely different from Romanticism, what the fathers believe in, and is related to nihilism. Turgenev, in describing what type of person Bazarov was, coined the term nihilism. In Fathers and Sons, Arkady, Nikolai s son, states that Bazarov is a nihilist. Turgenev then describes the actions of Bazarov, creating a new intellectual thought, Bazarovism. Bazarovism is mostly derived from his own actions and views, but is also influenced by others reactions to the way Bazarov acts. As a nihilist, Bazarov rejects anything unless it has been previously proven to be true. Arkady tells his father, Nikolai, and Pavel, his uncle, that as a nihilist, Bazarov looks at everything critically. Instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction All across the United States, historical patterns of resource extraction have led to degradation and fragmentation of forest landscapes. When a community depends on those resources, a local crisis can emerge from this process of degradation. To reverse this scenario, community forestry became a popular approach in the 1970s as a modern policy and practice (Baker and Kusel, 2003). This model was based on a simple assumption: as local people already use and rely on the natural resources of their forests, they are in the best position to conserve them. For the phenolphthalein, we used Agar cubes cut in three different sizes: small, medium and large. The purpose of this Lab was to study the surface area to volume ratio in cells and see how this ratio affects cell size. Phenolphthalein (C20H14O4) is one of the most common acid base indicators used to determine the end point in acid base titrations. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is an inorganic compound also known as lye. When exposed to each other, these two compounds made the Agar cubes turn magenta (pink). Diffusion occurs along diffusion gradients going from areas of high concentration to areas of lower concentration. So with time the NaOH diffuses from the area of high concentration outside of the agar cube to areas of lower concentration inside of the cube. Once the Agar cubes had been immersed in the NaOH for ten minutes, we cut each cube in half. The depth of diffusion on each of the cubes was .3 cm. * The rate of diffusion for all three agar cubes was .03 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cells need to metabolize nutrients and excrete waste in order to live. These processes need to occur efficiently. On the agar cubes, the pink area represents the depth of diffusion and indicates how far nutrients diffusing into the cell would travel. The percentage of pink area indicates how efficient the diffusion is. The white area is bad because this means there was no diffusion into that region. In theory, any cube with a white area will die since that portion of the cell would not acquire the necessary nutrients. The small cube was the most efficient at gaining nutrients and getting rid of waste as almost all of the cube had turned pink. In conclusion, the best cell size was the small cube because it had the larges SA:Vol ratio and therefore, it had the most diffusion. Taxes are of essential importance to small developing countries as they do not have much needed resources. As further developments takes place in the municipal city property values will increase, hence the amount of property tax collected by the Portmore municipal council will also increase. In this essay, I focus on analyzing three of the solutions, to wit, having a clear mission statement and hiring employees according to their willingness to commit to it, possessing a moral leadership, and reducing the tendency to avarice. Before moving on to the solutions, I believe it is pertinent to give some insights behind the theories. McPherson s essay mainly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many theorists have tried to explain virtue. Yet, common sense seems to indicate that virtue is highly moral behavior. McPherson bases most of his arguments in Aristotle s virtue ethic principle, which implies that one must commit himself to identify purposes of human nature that are worthy to pursue and fulfill those purposes through exercising virtues, which would then, establish a higher mode of life/ Eudaimonia (2013, p. 284). McPherson argues that a way of applying vocational virtue ethics to business is by acknowledging the notion of work as a calling or vocation. He explains his perspective further by distinguishing two types of calling, general and specific. From his perspective, general calling is what we normatively ought to do, while specific calling is the particular way in which we seek to realize this general calling (2013, p. 290). Moreover, ... Biological, Psychological, And Social Factors A bio psychosocial describes an approach systematically considers biological, psychological, and social factors and their complex interactions in understanding health, illness, and health care delivery. Biological factors include defective biological processes compounds that lead to biological dysfunction and illness. Psychological factors are about the individual s emotions, behavior, and mental processes. Social factors include social status and relations. These factors are all considered in an attempt to understand the underlying factors of such disease. Sigmund Freud would consider the social factors in their theories. Behavioral and environmental psychologists ignore the developmental, biological or psychological aspect of the individual and argue that a human person learns to control their direct environment in relation to their situations; learning their behaviors with the surroundings their in. Without combination of other approaches to psychological problems, it is complicated to help any person with the behavioral model. This is because helping a patient to learn positively rewarding stimuli without understanding or considering factors like background or biological factor could be meaningless. Our goal has been to either reduce taxes or increase reported earnings, depending on our client s needs and circumstances. But what about cost allocation s other uses? First and foremost, cost allocation provides a methodology for assigning overhead costs of various activities, usually support departments, to products or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Implementing Activity Based Costing¶ The steps involved in activity based costing are: 1) Clarify the purpose of the allocation, defining why the need to allocate these costs exists and defining the benefit of doing so. 2) Identify support and operating department cost pools; 3) Select an allocation base or cost driver for each support department cost pool based on a cause and effect relationship between the support departments and the operating/production departments. 4) Choose and apply a method for allocating support department costs to operating/production departments. The three most widely used methods are the direct method, the step down method, and the reciprocal method, all of which will be discussed shortly. 5) Once the allocation of support costs to the operating departments is complete, cost drivers are selected for the newly formed cost pools (production/operating department overhead costs) and costs are then allocated to the units of goods or services. Direct Method of Allocation¶ Before we continue, it would be good to discuss the three methods discussed in step 4. The direct method allocates costs directly from the support departments to the operating departments that use its services. Geometry is a branch of mathematics with the properties and the relations of points, lines, surfaces, and solids. Speed is to move exceedingly fast, at different rates. Math is used to calculate the height of roller coasters. Engineers calculate the perfect angles, heights, and the directions that allow roller coasters to reach speeds without going off the track. An angle is the space (usually measured in degrees) between two intersecting lines or surfaces at or close to the point where they meet. They must think about the slope of the drop, the number of inverts, the amount of turns, the height, the speed, the length, and the amount of breaks that the ride needs. The slope and the height are important features of coasters. They determine if the train will get through the track at a constant speed; if they made loops or even bank turns. Length is an issue in how high the engineers must make a drop and what angle to make it at. Psychoanalysis essentially retrieves a patient s repressed feelings and fears to the surface with techniques such as hypnosis, word association, dream interpretation, and hesitations and fumbles. Although Freud was not originally a fan of hypnosis, it was theorized to be an effective of way of channeling the subconscious mind. Word associations are the first things that come into mind. It goes straight through the id, so there is no time to channel the ego or superego. In other words, when someone says the first word that goes through their mind, it gives Freud a way to see into their subconscious mind and discover the trauma that the patient may have experienced. Patil Abstract Noise in signal records is caused by various factors which increase the difficulty in analyzing the signal and to obtain proper information. To design specific filters to decrease such noises in signal records is necessary. Hence efficient architecture of Delayed LMS (DLMS) algorithm is proposed which supports pipelining and avoid long critical path. A novel partial product generator and a strategy for optimized balanced pipelining across the time consuming combinational blocks of the structure are used. It also concentrates on minimizing the adaption delay and area. The proposed system is implemented in verilog HDL language using Xilinx 14.2 and simulated using Modelsim simulator. Index Terms Noise, Adaptive Filter, DLMS Algorithm, Critical Path, Pipelining, Verilog HDL. INTRODUCTION The signals are affected with noise and loss important information. Hence, the signals have to be cleaned up with digital signal processing tools before they are stored, transmitted, or played out. A variety of noise cancellation algorithms have been proposed in the literature.
