Exhibition Review – Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Essay
Exhibition Review Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery
Dale Chihuly is an American artist, born September 20th, 1941 who is known for his glass sculptures.
One of his most well known pieces is the blue and green glass sculpture hanging in the front entrance
of the Victoria Albert Museum in London (figure 1). His work has included over 200 museum
collections worldwide, and I visited his exhibition in the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street in
London on the 23rd of January 2012.
The entire exhibition was made up of glass sculptures fitting into several different genres created by
the artist; for example Seaforms , Persians , both created in the 1980 s, and Fiori , which he created in
the 2000 s. Chihuly explored a variety of glass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the pieces were 3D, standing out from the wall, interesting coloured shadows and highlights were
created with the lighting on the white walls. The viewers could walk beneath the pieces to view the
underneath of each bowl like disc, and see the detail of different coloured glass swirled into the piece.
The curving edges of the discs created a natural feel to the piece, softening it.
Another part of the exhibition that I found visually stimulating were the Basket themed pieces, created
in the 1970 s, as I thought their smooth edges and insides captured and reflected the lights really
effectively (figures 8 and 9). I also really liked the multiple baskets stacked inside one another,
showing how Chihuly can handcraft the basket shapes on a variety of scales. The lip wrap on each
basket is often a contrasting colour, developed from the tradition of Venetian glassmaking, and is a
trademark of Chihuly s work. I feel the bold colour lip wraps help to draw the viewer s eye into the
centre of the baskets, revealing the smaller baskets within.
I really liked the contrast in the colour of the two chandelier pieces in the windows of the Halcyon
Gallery (figures 10 and 11). The deep red and blues within the Cranberry and Clear Chandelier and the
Dusky Sky Chandelier draw the attention of passers by, encouraging you to step closer and view the
intricacies of each handcrafted piece of the two chandeliers. I feel they were the ideal pieces of work
to advertise the

Music is one of the important art fields. It has a powerful effect on the people, communities and even

many pioneers, but has one king Louis Armstrong . He was one of the most powerful trumpeters in

Clifford s Views On Religion
Clifford makes an excellent point that we should take into consideration all beliefs and ethics. But his
philosophy that it is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient
evidence is a little harsh for me. On the other hand James more faith filled philosophy based on his
view of religion, recognizing facts and the truth and how the choices we make in our lives effect us
everyday are some of the more relatable ethics that we can apply in our daily lives and to give us some
guidance in a life full of so many choices. As we know many people have a stance on religion just like
WK Clifford who has a very strong view about religion, but some do not agree. William James for
examples thinks that, Clifford s principles should be not to be applied to religious beliefs because as
he points out moral questions cannot simply be settled by the facts. James argues that we have a right
to believe in some cases, when supporting evidence may be lacking. James sees the basic idea of
religion as having two parts that the best things are the eternal things, and that you will be better off in
the here and now if you believe this. An example of something we almost all believe in without
sufficient evidence, is the emotions we feel often every day. The many emotions we feel everyday
such as happiness, anger, or even sympathy are very often morally relevant to us. Emotions are not
settled by facts we just feel them and for sometimes no reason at all. Like

The Open Office Project Essay
The Open Office Project (OOP) is part of an open source project called Open Office developed by Sun
Microsystems. The OpenOffice.org project is primarily sponsored by Sun Microsystems, which is the
primary contributor of code to the Project. Our other major corporate contributors include Novell,
RedHat, RedFlag CH2000, IBM, and Google. Additionally, over 450,000 people from nearly every
curve of the globe have joined this Project with the idea of creating the best possible office suite that
all can use (Open Office, 2013). Basically the OPP software mirrors the software suite of products
offered by Microsoft. Open Office Project is very similar to Microsoft Project but dose not offer every
feature.

There are other negative sides; Software metrics can be very powerful tools that help achieve your
goals but it is important to use them correctly, as they also have the power to demotivate project teams
and steer development in the wrong direction.
The utilization of OOP for the J. Smith Associates (JSA) furniture equipment project could be useful
with additional training of the OOP software. The JSA furniture equipment project will follow the
Traditional Project Management (TPM) approach. The Linear Project Management Life Cycle Model
is the most appropriate TPM. The project follows scope, plan, launch, monitor control and close
processes and the OOP are well suited for a linear project. With easier access to the project plan via
lap tops or hand held internet access devices the full project plan becomes portable. Changes and
updates through OOP will automatically update other documents affected by these events. The client
or senior management can access project plan at any time to follow the progress of the operation.
The OOP software functions as a scheduler allowing a software user the ability to visualize former,
current and future events. This is very useful tool to follow up with subcontractors to insure their
readiness for their phase of the project. Additional OOP functions can assist with the monitoring and
control of subcontractor s actions.
Many large scale operations only use whiteboards and post it notes with a high level of

The Recession Of A Recession
Economical term recession means a significant decrease in activity across the economy, which last
longer than few months. This phenomenon is visible in employment, wholesale retail trade, and
others. The recession is considered a normal part of the business cycle. Nevertheless, a one time crisis
can trigger the onset of a recession. The global recession through 2007 to 2009 resulted in significant
breakdowns to practically all the developed and developing countries. In order to prevent a future
financial crisis, numerous government policies were enforced. A recession usually last 6 to 18 months
and interest rate fall to stimulate the economy. During a recession, people tend not to spend, borrow,
but to save money because of a fall in confidence. The government initiates an expansionary fiscal
policy which involves increasing stimulus government spending and cutting taxes. However, the
question is can increased stimulus spending help end the recession. The first article, Increased
Stimulus Spending Can Help End the Recession by Lawrence H. Summers, argues that for a
successful economic recovery, the US government must pursue measures that increase confidence,
borrowing, and spending (Summers 1). Summers alleges that the reason why recession keeps on is
because of lack of demand. An increase in spending to increase demand is the cure, even though too
much spending was part of a cause in recession. Summers defined a recession as:
Recessions are times when there is too

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Melodies and sonnets
Energetic tunes have been composed about the Rani; one of them incorporates these lines
(deciphered): How valiantly like a man battled she,/ The Rani of Jhansi/ On every parapet a firearm
she set/ Raining blaze of hellfire,/ How well like a man battled the Rani of Jhansi/ How valiantly and
well! She is an image of lady masculinity as the line says in her admiration Khoob ladi mardani wo to
jhansi wali rani thi (Bravely and tirelessly she battled like men).

The War of 1812
In this essay I will be discussing the major events and battles that took place during the War of 1812.
It started in 1812 and lasted until the spring of 1815. There were three main causes for the war taking
place, America trading with parts of Europe(France), the Impressment, and the possible desire on the
part of the United States to annex Canada, The War of 1812 ended as a stalemate in the spring of
1815. The War of 1812 was a war that never should have been fought.
America Trading With France

America hated this because the British were literally taking american people and making them fight
for someone else.
Why did America want to annex Canada
America wanted to annex Canada because it had a lot of resources that America would have loved to
get there hands on the great amount of resources that America could have used. America also wanted
to annex canada because it would have been a huge amount of territory gain for america and it would
have made America a super country, it would have been a metaphorical spit in the face to Great
Britain.
How did the war end?
The war of 1812 ended as a stalemate in 1814 when the downfall of Napoleon allowed the British to
distribute more military resources to the war, Washington D.C., fell to the British in August. While In
Washington, British troops burned the White House down, and other buildings in retaliation for the
earlier burning of government buildings in Canada by the US soldiers. The British soon retreated, and

Igor Reznikoff s Ideas To Create The Analytical Engine
Johnson refers to Lovelace and Babbage as time travelers, although he doesn t mean so literally the
point he is conveying is that they were both drastically ahead of their era in a creative and innovative
sense. Working together, Ada and Charles were able to combine their out of the box ambitions and
systematic thought process to create the Analytical Engine. I believe it was Ada s background in
mathematics and her father s work that drove her to push the boundaries of what Babbage had in
mind. Ada said, the Engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of
complexity or extent in reference to her vision of using the Analytical Engine for more than complex
number crunching (265). It was the constant challenge the two presented one another that molded the
Engine into what it became. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was a music ethnographer, Igor used knowledge from his field in an anthropological
setting by studying the cave paintings found in France in relation to their placement and the sound
produced in those areas. Reznikoff s theory is that Neanderthal communities gathered beside the
images they had painted, and they chanted or sang in some kind of shamanic ritual, using the
reverberations of the cave to magically widen the sound of their voices (Johnson 99). If the
connections had not been made between the sound amplification in the cave and the concentrations of
paintings, we would not have the same insight we do today about Neanderthal communities and
incidences of cave paintings around the globe would seem

Malcolm Crowe Essay
The Conclusion of Malcolm Crowe
The Sixth Sense is a PG 13 horror film released on August 6, 1999 by director M. Night Shyamalan. It
talks about a boy name Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) who is able to see and talk to people from the
dead and child psychiatrist Malcolm Crowe tries to help him. Throughout the movie there were
abundance of scenes that made the movie memorable for the audience. One scene I found this
intriguing was at the end when Malcolm learned that he is dead. There were so numerous editing
techniques that were used during the scene which ties everything for the audience to understand. Not
only they use different editing techniques, there were many props that has symbolism, historical
content that people could comprehend, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shots can picture events and objects in different places at different times (Giannetti 523). Editing
is a critical aspect throughout the three minutes. Without editing, we weren t able to examine some
historical value the audience would not have noticed. A historical factor that they use is cold
temperature. When there is cold temperature in the room that is a sign that there is a ghost in the
building. When I was analyzing, the three minute clip, I could identify that Malcolm s wife was
feeling cold. During the film, you could recognize her cheeks bright red which occurs when people are
in a cold atmosphere. Anna was also trying to stay warm by covering herself with blankets. When
Anna started talking, you could spot her breath when she was trying to communicate with Malcolm.
These are all signs that a ghost is coming. Loyd Auerbach said wrote Ghost Hunting: How to
Investigate the Paranormal and he explained a variety of ways to spot a ghost, he said, Some people
may have a visual experience, while others the experience may be auditory. Some may smell or sense
something or event experience the proverbial cold chill. Any combination of the above is possible
(Auerbach 36). Overall the editing caused the scene to become a thriller and educational for the
audience to endure. Analyzing the editing made me realize about the amount of props they have done

Relationship Between English And Native Americans
The strongly mannered opinions that Englishmen had formed towards the Native Americans during
this time of Early Virginia were very incredulous. The English and Native Americans had a
complicated partnership. Englishmen actually had their first encounter with the Native Americans in
December of 1606, where they were welcomed upon arrival by Native Americans in an attack towards
the Englishmen. Although, the Englishmen perceived the Americans as very prestigious individuals,
they knew even before getting to Jamestown that they would heavily rely on the Americans for their
crops, their land and other helpful resources that the Indians were known for. While the Englishmen
had very poor opinions regarding the Native Americans based on them being uneducated
Conservatives, Native Americans were helpful towards Englishmen in a number of ways despite their
troublesome conflicts towards each other. Prior to arriving in Jamestown, Englishmen had many
different opinions of the Native Americans. The Englishmen knew that they would have to form a
good bond with the Americans if they wanted to keep the peace between them. Subsequently, they
knew they were going to need the Americans help once arriving to Jamestown. According to The

Theme Of Revenge In The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter is full of betrayal, hatred, jealousy, and envy. These many traits lead to the theme of
revenge being very prominent in the book. Revenge alone caused much strife between characters in
the novel and became the main goal for Chillingworth. Though there are other places where you can
find this theme it is most often used with Roger Chillingworth. He was torn apart both physically and
mentally by the need of revenge, which led him to lose many relationships that he had with characters
in the book. Chillingworth s dark revenge soon began after he returned home from leaving the
country. When he returned he noticed his wife, Hester Prynne, up on a scaffold. Upon seeing this, he
recognizes a bright A on her chest which meant she was an adulteress. Roger and Hester talk after
years of not seeing each other and Roger demands answers on who the adulterer is. Through much
denial from Hester, Chillingworth explains that he isn t mad at Hester but rather curious to discover
the identity of the adulterer. Later on Hester confesses to Roger that it is Arthur Dimmesdale, the town
reverend, which was shocking to Chillingworth. Upon hearing this Roger plots to get revenge on
Reverend Dimmesdale and will not stop until he gets it. Chillingworth s life is by now taken over by
the need of revenge. Though, with that idea, Roger tries to hide his real feelings and cover them up. As
an example of that, he would tell Hester that he loves her, but in reality he wants to

Oil Spill Response Essay
An introduction of the characteristics of the ecosytem community
Understanding various ecosystems allow us to better understand the impact in which the deep horizon
spill had within each type of ecosystem. The oil spill occurred around three specific types of
ecosystems including the coastal areas, the freshwater areas, and the upland areas. The coastal areas
often contain salty marshes which can be harsh on many plants. These coastal areas also include
tropical coral reefs, sand dunes, and maritime forests. The freshwater areas include rivers and springs,
lakes, swamps and freshwater marshes while the upland areas have pine and Flatwoods, temperate

Criticism Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald illustrates a picture of the American Society during the
1920 s. The 1920 s were a time of parties, drinking and having fun. Many had dreamed of becoming
rich and being part of the upper class. Although many wished to be part the upper class it was thought
to impossible as almost all of the upper class members in were born into it. In the Great Gatsby
Fitzgerald criticizes the American Dream by creating characters of all classes such as those from new
money, old money, and the working class who all fail to gain the freedom and happiness of the
American Dream. The old American Dream allowed before corruption allowed you to gain wealth,
power, and high status through hard work, and dedication. However, since time changes, so do values.
The American Dream had altered to materialistic aspects. These materialistic possession determine
how successful you are ,and shows it has rooted into the society. Fitzgerald shows this by showing us
the locations of where old money , and where new money live. Residents who live in West Egg are the
people who are referred to as new money as they usually have recently acquired their wealth , and are
lacking a social position. East Egg is home to those called old money who have posses wealth that has
been inherited through generations. Fitzgerald talks about how people from East Egg tend to have
more rights and respect than those who come from West Egg.

Obstacles In Thomas Jefferson s First Barbary War
Thomas Jefferson encountered many obstacles during his presidency, in which one of the issues was
the First Barbary War, in which the United States and Sweden fought against the Barbary States. One
of Jefferson s first actions as president was to reduce military establishments, in hope of transcending
wars and peaceful era. The First Barbary War or Tripolitanian War lasted from 1801 to 1805 in the
United States. The reason for waging the war was that pirates of the North Barbary States were
intercepting American merchant ships and retaining the sailors for ransom, demanding the U.S. to pay
tribute to the Barbary rulers. Jefferson declined to pay the price and ordered the American Navy to
attack the Barbary Pirates. Even though Congress never

How Did The Reaganomics Affect The Economy
From a liberal perspective, the Reagan Revolution was insignificant for the United States. For
example, Reagan s plan was to stimulate the economy by introducing the Reaganomics. He lowered
tax rates, which left more money for individuals and businesses to spend, save, or invest. President
Reagan cut federal taxes by 25 percent over a three year period, but the economy continued to struggle
for two years and the unemployment rate rose. Although, the personal income grew in the 1980s, the
income gap between the rich and poor widened. The Reaganomics assisted the rich, but hurt the poor.
These tax cuts would raise wealth among the rich and then would trickle down to all Americans. The
problem with that is that the middle class Americans would have to wait for trickle effect. ... Show

In addition to Reaganomics, the federal budget deficits climbed in his years in office. Before President
Reagan was in office the budget deficits were below $75 billion and then from 1982 to 1989 the
annual deficit surpassed $100 billion. The Department of Defense annual budget increased
approximately 85 percent. During his presidency the national debt tripled from $908 billion in 1980 to
$2.6 trillion in 1988. Liberals believed that the debt was acceptable if the government invested in
education, transportation, healthcare, and other economic and social issues. When President Reagan
was in office, he cut most of the programs that President Johnson had created to benefit the low
income families. The government spending did not make all Americans prosper. The social issues
were not solved because the government spent the money other issues like to pay for the interest on

Positive Impacts Of Peter The Great And Henry IV Of Russia
Some monarchs left their countries in better condition than when they began their rule, while others
left lasting damage. All of these monarchs used absolutism, but how they impacted their country
varied. Certain rulers did things to improve their countries they ruled and made a positive impact on
the people living there. For example, Henry IV made positive changes to France when he ruled, and
Peter the Great positively impacted Russia. However, some rulers made bad choices and made their
country worse. One example of this is Ivan IV of Russia, who is also known as Ivan the Terrible .
Although they believed in different things and ruled in different ways, they all made important
changes to the country they ruled. One monarch who made a positive impact on their country was
Henry IV of France. One example of how he positively changed France was issuing the Edict of
Nantes. The Edict of Nantes was a very important document at the time. It gave the Huguenots certain
rights that they previously did not have. The Huguenots were French Calvinist Protestants, and many
of the wealthy families were Huguenots. This originated from the Protestant Reformation and
spreading to France. The Huguenots were allowed freedom of religion (limited), the right to hold
office, and several other things. This change in France ended the idea of un roi, une loi, une foi ,
meaning one king, one law, one religion . Another way he made the country better was that he

Causes And Consequences Of The War Of 1812
The war of 1812 was also known as the second War of Independence , for some it may even be known
as the Forgotten War . It was an important conflict with long lasting consequences, especially for the
Native Americans in North America. The main cause of the war was America s desire to expand its
territory (history.com war of 1812 ). Just like everything else in America s history people were greedy
and always wanted more. More land equals more workers which equals more money. Native
Americans did not own land, land was known Mother Earth, everyone shared all she had to offer,
nothing was taken for granted, nothing was wasted, everything had its own importance. When new
settlers came to the Americas they were looking for new land, new territory for their settlements.
Some did not know that the land already had settlers; Natives. Think of when you have visitors at your
home, are you welcoming? Most of the time you are. That is exactly how the natives were with these
new settlers. Though they did not speak the same language the natives offered a helping hand, just to
get spit on in return. Not literally, but figuratively, the new settlers seen natives as people that could be
changed. So that s what they did, they tried to assimilate the Indians teaching them the white man s
ways. Many Indians did not know what was happening at the time and others caught on causing many
uproars. The War of 1812 is just another one of those uproars. The war was not fought between

The Effects Of Mass Shootings
Murder, robbery, human trafficking, rape, kidnapping. The commonality between these crimes are the
perpetrators with immoral intentions to do harm. Recently, the Texan city of Sutherland Springs
suffered through a terrifying mass shooting at the First Baptist Church, resulting in numerous deaths
of innocent church goers. With the Las Vegas mass shooting occurring not too long before this tragic
incident, fear strikes into the hearts of Americans and demands against gun control are being made.
The question becomes, though, what should be done in response to this kind of evil that has been
committed? Two articles, In the Face of Evil, Prayer is the Most Rational and Effective Response by
David French and Can Government Solve the Evil of Mass Shootings? A Response to Mollie
Hemingway by Daniel Schultz, go at opposite ends with issue here. The Texas church shooting in
accordance with the articles present the idea of God s omnipotence as the solution to the problem of
evil, in relation to Augustine s Evil is the Privation of Good and the Book of Job, which incorporate
the significance of evil. This particular article takes on sort of an optimistic and religious viewpoint in
regards to the aftermath of the church shooting. The article In the Face of Evil, Prayer is the Most
Rational and Effective Response by David French explains how prayer, as mentioned in the title, is the
one method that can be utilized in response to an event like this. French explains that a time

Art Criticism Of The Gold Lustreware Bowl By Galileo Chini

Arte della Ceramica Fontebuoni, Florence. Museo Galileo Chini, Borgo San lorenzo.
The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid of
special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. (Fig.1) But in the
seeming void I saw a repository of layered meanings which I attempted to interpret by examining the
artistic cross cultural influences in Florence in the late nineteenth century. And to address the question
of why the Mediaeval Hispano Moresque gold lustreware and the design motifs of the Gothic
Revivalist repertoires were found on this bowl. I examine why Chini became inspired to use these
designs and what they may have meant to him.
In this essay I will examine why there was a taste for lustreware in the Florentine workshops and how
their clients saw themselves reflected by these golden objects. ... Show more content on

The ceramics produced by Galileo Chini show a large repertoire of historical motifs and cross cultural
influences which blended to create a unique creation and distinctly Stile Liberty. From my own
observations of his artistic output I would suggest that Chini did not imitate Renaissance maiolica to
attract a certain erudite clientele, as in the case of the Cantagalli workshop, but developed his own
voice adapting design motifs from the past and projecting them into a new language which is

Instead youths receive treatment and counseling to overcome the trauma they endured during their
victimization.
States such as New York, Georgia and Florida have established special programs for youths and young
women that are victims of both domestic and foreign sex trafficking. These groups provide different
types of services to youth such as cognitive behavioral counseling, legal representation and health
services (Fong Cardoso, 2010). However, many also receive some type of life skills training and
assistance with employment through legitimate employers. Foreign youths often receive a special
refugee status unaccompanied refugee minors (URM) and are retained into federal foster care. These
youths are then eligible for mental health services, education and independent living assistance.
Though many services are available to these youths some are especially important for reintegration
back to society.
Reintegration is essential for these youths to become productive in the future. One way these
programs assist youths have been through intensive mental health services. There have been several
different types such as group and cognitive therapy. Sometimes intense private sessions are necessary

Mannerism In Speed-The Shawl, And Faustus By William...
David Mamet is an American playwright born in 1947, having the additional titles as an essayist,
screenwriter, and film director. Mamet has written several plays, including Speed the Plow, China
Doll, The Shawl, and Faustus, and succeeded in a movie adaptation of his play Glengarry Glen Ross
in 1992. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois until he relocated outside the city, living with his parents that
later divorced until he moved. His sister Lynn admitted their home life was cruel, influencing anger to
be present in Mamet s work (Editors). In relation to his work, other themes of his work include:
relationships (deception, loyalty, etc.), success and failure, and speech mannerisms (persuasion and

mannerisms; for example: Mamet believes that people speak what they are influenced by. Mamet was
influence most by Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Lanford Wilson, and Bertolt Brecht, beginning his
unique use of dramatic language (Whatley 12).
As for his play American Buffalo, the following themes are present: business, loyalty, friendship, and

A Rose For Emily And Psycho Analysis
Though A Rose for Emily and Psycho have two different plots, they have similar themes and
characteristics. Both stories have a murderous theme, with eerie abandoned looking houses. In both
Faulkner and Hitchcock s stories, the houses looked as is no one was taking care of them, but there
were still at least one person that came out of each one. Within the two houses were secrets
unimaginable to anyone outside of the home with a cloud of mystery hanging over them. This
comparison essay will cover the main characters, Ms. Emily Grierson in A Rose for Emily and
Norman in Psycho, who have similar themes of mystery, loneliness, and secrets. The mystery comes
from the lack of knowledge about what actually happens inside of the homes. Even though the town
was able to see Emily in town or later standing in her downstairs window, they did not know what was
going on in that house. Especially ever since she stopped her classes with the children. Norman also
did not have anyone looking inside his home. It was just him, his mother and no one else. Spectators

Leviathan, By Thomas Hobbes
In Leviathan, by Thomas Hobbes, he talks about nature, man, liberty, and other topics. Mr. Hobbes
says that nature hath made men so equal, but how can we determine how they are equal? We can say
everyone is equal before they come into the world, except when they are actually in the world, no one
is the same. Everyone is different in some way, whether it be with respect, money, or just social gains.
One man can claim any benefit to his satisfaction, but is it only satisfying to himself or others? What
makes this satisfying? Something s can be satisfying while others find them horrifying. For example,
in the real world there are psychopaths that murder people and do other totally absurd things. The
normal people find this disturbing, and might find football satisfying to them, but then again, who
defines what is normal about a person.
Without a common power to keep all men in awe, they are in war. Every man is for themselves and
just fighting to be the best, but how can this be? Why can t we all just accept who each other is,
instead of fighting for who can be the best? When men are in war with each other, they have no
common sense between justice and injustice actions. They block everything out and go on a totally
aggressive offensive scheme. All they care about is coming on top and destroying whoever they are at
war with, but why does there have to be war at all? Most people go to war for items and to show who
is best, but can there never be war? The answer is no, to

The women s treatment of the students affected their productivity in the form of a self fulfilling
prophecy; the women had very low expectations of the student s work performance (McShane Steen,
2008, p.76). This led them to bully the two for their own amusement, which in turn led to the
frustration of the students, and caused the boxes to be thrown at the wall.
As mentioned earlier, unnecessary conflict resulted in the wasting of resources, which is
counterproductive to any work environment. It slows down production capabilities, increases financial
expenses for damage goods, and increases safety risks. The students were being worked at a pace that
was too fast for their skill set. They tried to tell the women in control of the line speed that it was too
fast but the women responded with laughter and teasing. The communication on the production line
had barriers. The noise of the machines was too loud for the students to be able to communicate
between them, thus affecting their productivity. This led the students to seek alternative ways to slow
down the speed of the production line. The actions of the women caused the students to throw boxes
against the wall in order to stop the production line and catch up on their work while the bottles were
being cleaned from the floor. According to an article written by Kish Gephart et al., (2010) explains

Mid Term Probable cause does not rise to the level of proof beyond a reasonable doubt but must be
beyond a mere hunch or guess. The legal standard to a probable cause arrest is when an officer finds
evidence during a valid stop and frisk search that confirms the reasonable suspicion of an officer that a
crime has been or is being committed and would lead to the arrest of and offender. There are a variety
of sources to establish probable cause and they are personally observed facts by an officer,
information received from an informant. When information supplied by informant the courts and

The defense case in chief must mount a defense that either demolishes the prosecutor s case or, at a
bare minimum, creates reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury. A defendant has no burden of proofs
in any criminal case and can still prevail without introducing any evidence with the exception of
affirmative defenses. Based on the Fifth Amendment the defendant may choose not to testify to avoid
self incrimination. The defense counsel also calls defense witnesses for direct examination. Defense
testimony may also include expert witnesses who have special training and qualifications and are
permitted to offer opinions. The prosecution is permitted to cross examine each defense witness.
Reasonable Suspicion is a crime has or about to occur. If an officer has some suspicion of criminality
of a person they are allowed to do a limited stop and frisk of the individual just for the safety of the

and airport detentions. A reasonable level of force may be used to effectuate the stop if the individual
proves resistance. The subject may be briefly questioned about the unusual conduct; if the explanation
proves unreasonable, and the officer reasonably believes the person is armed and dangerous, he or she
may conduct a limited search of the outer clothing. The facts that generate an officer s reasonable

Violent Media Argument Analysis
My argument synthesis essay
Violent media is good for kids is a fascinating article written by Gerard Jones. He makes an argument
about how many forms of creative violence help many more children than they harm by giving them a
tool to master their rage. At thirteen years of age he explains how forms of violence have been
insightful and impactful for him. Growing up alone and afraid Gerard was taught by his parents that
rage was something to be overcome and that violence was wrong. He was placed in a small school he
felt was wrong for him, but then he withdrew from his loneliness when he became introduced to
Marvel comics. Specifically, a character in the Marvel comics he felt he could relate to named the

That rage in the rapper s lyrics helped her in a way which she felt she could be powerful and
invulnerable in her mind. That same girl later in her life avoided the use of drugs that sank many of
her peers and succeeded through college as a writer and political activist.
Jones is not making an argument saying that violent entertainment is harmless. He knows it inspired
some people to real life violence. He argues that it has helped many people for the many people that it
hurt before and that it can help even more if people learn to utilize it well. He believes that parents
highest priority with their kids is to prevent them growing up into violent thugs, but modern kids are
more likely to grow up too passive, distrustful of themselves, and too easily manipulated. He believes
that when parents try to protect their own kids from their own feelings and fantasies, they shelter them
not from violence but against power and selfhood. Jones urges us to consider helping our kids with
their fantasies rather than trying to hide them or take them away.
When life imitates video is another article written by John Leo who opposes the argument given
before by Gerard Jones. John s argument is that If we want to avoid more massacres we should be
taking the social effects of killing games more seriously. He mentions the Colorado Massacre as
suspects Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris used pistol grip shotguns as

LEEPAnd Why Is It Done
What is a LEEP and why is it done? A LEEP is done when you have an abnormal cervical cancer
screening result; it is one way of removing the abnormal cells from your cervix. Your gynecologists
dose this by using a thin wire that acts like a scalpel. Electric current is passed through the loop, which
cuts away a thin layer of the cervix. How is LEEP performed? The procedure should be done when
you are not on your period so that the doctor can have a better view of your cervix. Most of the time
LEEP is done in the doctor s office, this only takes a few minutes so you should be in and out. To have
the procedure done you will be lying on you back with your legs in stirrups. Then the doctor will
insert a speculum into your vagina in the same way as for a pelvic exam. A local anesthesia will be
used so you don t feel pain. This will be given through a needle attached to a syringe. You are most
likely going to feel a slight sting, then a dull ache or cramp. Then the loop is inserted into your vagina
to the cervix. There will be different sizes and shapes of the loops that will be used. There is a small
chance that you may feel faint during the procedure. If you do feel faint tell your doctor immediately.

She gathered as much money as she could find and went down to the police headquarters. The plan
was to bribe the officers to release the group. It was too late. The group was already gone ( Miep Gies,

Lycidas Poem Analysis
The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body
Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a
fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the
figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the
various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for
instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent
as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element
which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept
Lycidas death.
The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia
whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek
pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132)
the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice
with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s
herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas
to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or
Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that
the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it.
The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and
flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine,
pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. (142 47,149 150)The laurels
are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas hearse (151) praises him for his
poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery. When the speaker
mentions the rathe primrose (142), a flower that blooms early

Exhibition Review – Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Essay Exhibition Review Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Dale Chihuly is an American artist, born September 20th, 1941 who is known for his glass sculptures. One of his most well known pieces is the blue and green glass sculpture hanging in the front entrance of the Victoria Albert Museum in London (figure 1). His work has included over 200 museum collections worldwide, and I visited his exhibition in the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street in London on the 23rd of January 2012. The entire exhibition was made up of glass sculptures fitting into several different genres created by the artist; for example Seaforms , Persians , both created in the 1980 s, and Fiori , which he created in the 2000 s. As the pieces were 3D, standing out from the wall, interesting coloured shadows and highlights were created with the lighting on the white walls. The viewers could walk beneath the pieces to view the underneath of each bowl like disc, and see the detail of different coloured glass swirled into the piece. The curving edges of the discs created a natural feel to the piece, softening it. Another part of the exhibition that I found visually stimulating were the Basket themed pieces, created in the 1970 s, as I thought their smooth edges and insides captured and reflected the lights really effectively (figures 8 and 9). I also really liked the multiple baskets stacked inside one another, showing how Chihuly can handcraft the basket shapes on a variety of scales. The lip wrap on each basket is often a contrasting colour, developed from the tradition of Venetian glassmaking, and is a trademark of Chihuly s work. I feel the bold colour lip wraps help to draw the viewer s eye into the centre of the baskets, revealing the smaller baskets within. I really liked the contrast in the colour of the two chandelier pieces in the windows of the Halcyon Gallery (figures 10 and 11). The deep red and blues within the Cranberry and Clear Chandelier and the Dusky Sky Chandelier draw the attention of passers by, encouraging you to step closer and view the intricacies of each handcrafted piece of the two chandeliers. • 6. Clifford s Views On Religion Clifford makes an excellent point that we should take into consideration all beliefs and ethics. But his philosophy that it is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence is a little harsh for me. On the other hand James more faith filled philosophy based on his view of religion, recognizing facts and the truth and how the choices we make in our lives effect us everyday are some of the more relatable ethics that we can apply in our daily lives and to give us some guidance in a life full of so many choices. As we know many people have a stance on religion just like WK Clifford who has a very strong view about religion, but some do not agree. William James for examples thinks that, Clifford s principles should be not to be applied to religious beliefs because as he points out moral questions cannot simply be settled by the facts. James argues that we have a right to believe in some cases, when supporting evidence may be lacking. James sees the basic idea of religion as having two parts that the best things are the eternal things, and that you will be better off in the here and now if you believe this. An example of something we almost all believe in without sufficient evidence, is the emotions we feel often every day. The many emotions we feel everyday such as happiness, anger, or even sympathy are very often morally relevant to us. Emotions are not settled by facts we just feel them and for sometimes no reason at all. Like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nevertheless, a one time crisis can trigger the onset of a recession. The government initiates an expansionary fiscal policy which involves increasing stimulus government spending and cutting taxes. However, the question is can increased stimulus spending help end the recession. The first article, Increased Stimulus Spending Can Help End the Recession by Lawrence H. Summers, argues that for a successful economic recovery, the US government must pursue measures that increase confidence, borrowing, and spending (Summers 1). Summers alleges that the reason why recession keeps on is because of lack of demand. When President Reagan was in office, he cut most of the programs that President Johnson had created to benefit the low income families. The government spending did not make all Americans prosper. • 24. Positive Impacts Of Peter The Great And Henry IV Of Russia Some monarchs left their countries in better condition than when they began their rule, while others left lasting damage. All of these monarchs used absolutism, but how they impacted their country varied. Certain rulers did things to improve their countries they ruled and made a positive impact on the people living there. For example, Henry IV made positive changes to France when he ruled, and Peter the Great positively impacted Russia. However, some rulers made bad choices and made their country worse. One example of this is Ivan IV of Russia, who is also known as Ivan the Terrible . Although they believed in different things and ruled in different ways, they all made important changes to the country they ruled. One monarch who made a positive impact on their country was Henry IV of France. One example of how he positively changed France was issuing the Edict of Nantes. The Edict of Nantes was a very important document at the time. It gave the Huguenots certain rights that they previously did not have. The Huguenots were French Calvinist Protestants, and many of the wealthy families were Huguenots. This originated from the Protestant Reformation and spreading to France. The Huguenots were allowed freedom of religion (limited), the right to hold office, and several other things. This change in France ended the idea of un roi, une loi, une foi , meaning one king, one law, one religion . Another way he made the country better was that he improved France s financial ... It was an important conflict with long lasting consequences, especially for the Native Americans in North America. The main cause of the war was America s desire to expand its territory (history.com war of 1812 ). Just like everything else in America s history people were greedy and always wanted more. More land equals more workers which equals more money. Native Americans did not own land, land was known Mother Earth, everyone shared all she had to offer, nothing was taken for granted, nothing was wasted, everything had its own importance. When new settlers came to the Americas they were looking for new land, new territory for their settlements. Some did not know that the land already had settlers; Natives. Think of when you have visitors at your home, are you welcoming? Most of the time you are. That is exactly how the natives were with these new settlers. Though they did not speak the same language the natives offered a helping hand, just to get spit on in return. Not literally, but figuratively, the new settlers seen natives as people that could be changed. So that s what they did, they tried to assimilate the Indians teaching them the white man s ways. Many Indians did not know what was happening at the time and others caught on causing many uproars. The War of 1812 is just another one of those uproars. The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid of special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. We can say everyone is equal before they come into the world, except when they are actually in the world, no one is the same. Everyone is different in some way, whether it be with respect, money, or just social gains. One man can claim any benefit to his satisfaction, but is it only satisfying to himself or others? What makes this satisfying? Something s can be satisfying while others find them horrifying. A LEEP is done when you have an abnormal cervical cancer screening result; it is one way of removing the abnormal cells from your cervix. Your gynecologists dose this by using a thin wire that acts like a scalpel. Electric current is passed through the loop, which cuts away a thin layer of the cervix. How is LEEP performed? The procedure should be done when you are not on your period so that the doctor can have a better view of your cervix. Most of the time LEEP is done in the doctor s office, this only takes a few minutes so you should be in and out. To have the procedure done you will be lying on you back with your legs in stirrups. • 43. Lycidas Poem Analysis The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept Lycidas death. The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132) the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it. The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine, pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. (142 47,149 150)The laurels are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas hearse (151) praises him for his poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery.
