Cold War Individual Project
Summative Project: Introduction
● Each student will complete a Concept Map about one of the following
topics:
o Power Shifts: Yalta Conference, the development of nuclear weapons, Soviet control over
Eastern European nations, and the economic recoveries of Germany and Japan
o Competition for influence: Egypt, the Congo, Vietnam, and Chile
o Cold War and Asia: Korean War, Vietnam War, Tiananmen Square (massacre and
protests), and the Six Day War
o Chinese Civil War: Rise of Mao Tse-tung, political and economic upheavals in China (the
Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and the Tiananmen Square uprising)
o Satellite Uprisings: Poland (1956), Hungary (1956), Czechoslovakia (1968), and those
countries’ resurgence in the 1970s and 1980s as people in Soviet satellites sought
freedom from Soviet control
o Collapse of the Soviet Union: The weakness of the economy, burdens of military
commitments, Growing resistance to Soviet rule in satellite states, and Anti-Soviet
American presidents
o World of Cliques: Warsaw Pact, SEATO, NATO, and the Organization of American
States

● The topic you chose has 4 pre-assigned
categories for you to research
o ex: Competition for influence: Egypt, the Congo, Vietnam,
and Chile
● Under each category, you need to find three
facts and list your source

under General Augusto Pinochet

o 3 facts are complete sentences with sources listed
after each
 Wikipedia is not to be cited
● Graphic organizers are due Monday
● Information collected will go into creating a
Storybook
o Book will be titled: ‘Cold War: (your topic)’
 For each category researched, 2 pages will be
dedicated
● 1 for the title and a picture (drawn or printed)
● 1 with a min. 10 sentence description of the
event as it relates to the Cold War
 Should total 9 pages
● Cover (with image and title) + 8 pages dedicated
to the categories
