 Standards 1: able to understand both verbal and non-verbal
31-36 months:3-4 yr old

Standards1.2: able to recite the alphabet and number
37-48 mos.
- prints upper-case letters with a model with some revearsals
49-60 mos.:
-prints complete name without a model.
61-71 mos.:
-prints upper case letters with no revearsal

Attention and Activity level
Standards:able to sustain attention amd modulate.
31-36 mos-> completes simple tasks without prodding
37-48 mos:->may be distracted but re-focuses on his/her own.
49-60 mos.:->sustains attention and concentration on a tabletop activity for 15-20
mins.
61-71 mos.:->
Can work on a school assgnmt.
Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers
 High-ordered mental abilities(Concept Formation)
-develops basic concepts pertaining to object constancy,space,time.quantity
and etc.
31-36 mos.->knows the difference bet. A recent event and one that happened a long
time ago.
37-48 mos.-> can tell which is prettier/nicer of 2 items based on his criteria.
49-60 mos->can tell which is the left and right people facing him.

 Higher-Ordered Mental Abilities(Cause and Effect realtionships)
:able to understand the cause-effect realationships.
3-36 mos.->can complete a simple pattern
37-48 mos.->understand reason behind rules and practices in school.

31-36 mos.->talks about things that happened during a pparticular event.

61-71 mos->can recite the days of the week with no errors

 High ordered mental abilities(planning and organizing)-able to plan and organize.
 Higher-orders mental abilities(creative thought)-able to generate new ideas or
concepts.
 Higher-orders mental abilities(cognitive Flexibility)-able toshift to more adaptive
cognitive processingstrategies in order to effectively deal.

  • 2. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers. pre-schooler’s symbolic and intuitive thinking:  there are two substages of piaget’s preoperational thought:  1.symbolic stage  2. intuitive stage  -unidimensional thought.  Irreversibility  Transductive reasoning.

  • 4. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Language Development: 1.Fast mapping Language and Social Interaction: Zone of Proximodistal Devt.(ZPD) -Scaffolding -More knowledgeable Other(MKO)
  • 5. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Information Processin Theory-attention and Memory 1.Rehearsal 2.Organizing Information
  • 6. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  The Young Children’s theory of mind:it refers to indi- Vidual’s thought about how mental processes work. -Social Experience 1.Early form of communication 2.Limitation 3.make-believe play 4.Language 5.Social interaction.
  • 7. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Receptive Language:  Standards 1: able to understand both verbal and non-verbal 31-36 months:3-4 yr old >speaks in simple sentences >talks about an event and is understood 37-48 mos. >uses some Preposition >uses plurals >etc.
  • 8. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Receptive Language: 49-60 mos:4-5 years old >draws and tells a story about his drawing Pre-Reading and Pre-math(matching) Standards1.1:able to match identical objects and etc. 31-36 mos -matches identical object w/2 attributes/ 37-48 -copies simple patterns with2 or more attributes
  • 9. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Pre-Reading and Pre-Math(Copying Letters and Numbers). Standards1.2: able to recite the alphabet and number 37-48 mos. - prints upper-case letters with a model with some revearsals 49-60 mos.: -prints complete name without a model. 61-71 mos.: -prints upper case letters with no revearsal

Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Domain: Cognitive Development Attention and Activity level Standards:able to sustain attention amd modulate. 31-36 mos-> completes simple tasks without prodding 37-48 mos:->may be distracted but re-focuses on his/her own. 49-60 mos.:->sustains attention and concentration on a tabletop activity for 15-20 mins. 61-71 mos.:-> Can work on a school assgnmt.
  • 11. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  High-ordered mental abilities(Concept Formation) -develops basic concepts pertaining to object constancy,space,time.quantity and etc. 31-36 mos.->knows the difference bet. A recent event and one that happened a long time ago. 37-48 mos.-> can tell which is prettier/nicer of 2 items based on his criteria. 49-60 mos->can tell which is the left and right people facing him.
  • 12. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Higher-Ordered Mental Abilities(Cause and Effect realtionships) :able to understand the cause-effect realationships. 3-36 mos.->can complete a simple pattern 37-48 mos.->understand reason behind rules and practices in school.
  • 13. Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  Memory(Episodic Memory) :able to recall people. 31-36 mos.->talks about things that happened during a pparticular event. Memory(Memory concept-based knowledge-sematic memory) >able to store verbal information. 37-48 mos.->repeats5-7 word senteces correctly 49-60 mos;can recite the days of the week with some errors 61-71 mos->can recite the days of the week with no errors

Cognitive Development of pre-schoolers  High ordered mental abilities(logical reasoning)-able to follow the logic of eventd  High ordered mental abilities(planning and organizing)-able to plan and organize.  Higher-orders mental abilities(creative thought)-able to generate new ideas or concepts.  Higher-orders mental abilities(cognitive Flexibility)-able toshift to more adaptive cognitive processingstrategies in order to effectively deal.
