Codes and Conventions of House Music Magazines
In the house music genre the artists which feature on the frontof the
magazine are typically males however more recently females are starting to
make a show on covers like Mixmag becausethey want to promote their
magazine to both genders and get more women into housemusic, artists are
quite flashy and dress well. Fashions and trends within the genrevary.
However, they all tend to wear modern clothing; jeans, t-shirts, leather jackets,
sunglasses itis a very stylish genre wherepeople tend to dress to fit their
personality. Mostof the artists you will see featured on house music
magazines will be mainly white, lower/middle class, young adults. There are
many other existing media brands which are incorporated with housemusic,
for example Mixmag is a very well-known housemusic magazine and I have
focused a lot of my research on this for inspiration. Also MTV Dance and Radio
1 play a lot of housemusic as well as this there are specifically music festivals
for house music, for example Tomorrowland and Electric Zoo.
The colour schemes of housemusic magazines seem to havea trend, you will
often see a black and white monochrometheme with a bright pop of colours;
pink, blue, yellow. The monochromestyle helps to keep the magazines more
diverseso that both male and females are attracted to them.
