This document summarizes a research paper on multicasting in wireless ad hoc networks. It discusses using an On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP) and a fully localized scheme. ODMRP builds a forwarding mesh topology to avoid issues with multicasting trees in mobile networks. The localized scheme integrates layered multicast and routing-based congestion avoidance to control multicast rates and maintain fairness with unicast flows. It allows each node to monitor links and cut aggregate multicast rates when links become congested, while still delivering multiple quality layers to receivers. Analysis and simulations showed the localized scheme enables multicasting and provides fair bandwidth sharing between multicast and unicast flows.
