Citing A Website In An Essay
Writing an essay on the subject of citing a website in an essay may initially appear
straightforward, but as one delves into the intricacies of proper citation, the task can reveal its
complexity. The difficulty lies not only in understanding the specific citation style required, such
as APA, MLA, or Chicago, but also in navigating the nuances associated with online sources.
Firstly, the guidelines for citing websites often vary depending on the citation style chosen. Each
style has its own set of rules regarding the placement of information such as the author's name,
publication date, and the URL. Juggling these details correctly is crucial to ensure the accuracy
and credibility of the essay.
Additionally, the dynamic nature of online content introduces challenges. Websites can be
updated, and URLs can change, making it imperative to provide the most current and reliable
information. This requires a keen eye for detail and an understanding of how to adapt citations to
accommodate these changes.
Moreover, the diverse range of online sources—such as articles, blog posts, or web
pages—adds another layer of complexity. Each type of source may have specific formatting
requirements, and recognizing these distinctions is essential for a well-crafted essay.
While various online tools and citation generators are available, relying solely on them can be a
pitfall. Understanding the underlying principles of citation is crucial to discern when these tools
might fall short or provide inaccurate information.
In conclusion, the seemingly straightforward task of citing a website in an essay unveils its
intricacies when one delves into the specific requirements of citation styles, the dynamic nature
of online content, and the diversity of online sources. Successfully navigating these challenges
requires attention to detail, a thorough understanding of citation guidelines, and the ability to
adapt to the ever-changing landscape of online information.

The Drilling Of The Oil
In the United States, more than 50 percent of oil used is imported from other
countries, and is shipped over by large tanker ships (Energy Quest 2012).
Petroleum is made into various products such as gasoline/ diesel fuel, home heating
oil, fertilizers, and plastic products (Energy Quest 2012). 74 percent of our oil is
used for transportation including, trucks, buses, cars, and planes (Energy Quest
2012). Drilling of the oil is a costly process and has severe effects to the environment.
Drilling on land requires a lot of space, disturbing the natural animal habitats, while
drilling at sea impacts surrounding marine life (ELI 2015). Petroleumis toxic and not
biodegradable, so when oil spills at sea, oil slick spreads rapidly over the water
killing vast numbers of marine plants and animals (ELI 2015). Refineries emit
toxins into the air and water supply as petroleum is processed to a usable oil, as it
is used, petroleum products are emitted into the air contributing to global warming
(ELI 2015). Additionally, other by products have been linked to respiratory illness as
well as heart disease in humans (ELI 2015). Natural gasis said to be the cleanest fossil
fuel, burning cleaner once it is processed, and because of its chemistry, produces
the most energy per carbon dioxide molecule (U.S. Department of Energy 2013).
This natural gas supplies many homes with heat and it can also be used for cooking
(ELI 2015). However, drilling for natural gas can be detrimental to
Power Dynamic Between Joan And Roger s Episode Babylon
In the episode Babylon from the television show Mad Men, the power dynamic
between Joan and Roger is unusual in that while Roger, a stereotypical white entitled
male in the sixties, owns the ad agency and objectifies Joan, his desire for her, and
her ability to manipulate his desire, allows her to take the power in the relationship
and remain independent.
America has had a historically dominant patriarchal system with a particular type of
man in charge: the white, heterosexual, male, who until the 60s 70s had yet to be
challenged in his birthright claim to authority and status. These men believed they
were superior to anyone who didn t have the same characteristics as they did.
Because of these societal norms, men believed that they were above their female
colleagues and women often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joan uses sex to maintain control over Roger, and does everything for what could be
seen as selfish reasons, but as a woman she has the right to do so. With this in mind,
the episode Babylon shows how a woman can use, societal norms to manipulate a
man into giving her what every woman in the 60s wants but could never have,
power and freedom. Roger s dialogue often has him comparing Joan to objects,
outlining his fantasies in which he has complete control of her. However, she is
presented as much more in control of how she is objectified. The affair is first
introduced with a scene in a hotel room, although it s a hotel room, we think it s a
bedroom, as they discuss she is seen both looking directly into a mirror and reflected
in the mirror. The men believe have wrongfully correlated objectory dictation with

How Did Benjamin Franklin Change America
Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin changed America simply by living and breathing inventions.
Benjamin Franklin lived from 1706 to 1790. He was one of the Founding Fathers of
the United States. Franklin was a polymath, printer, leading author, politician,
freemason, postmaster, scientist, inventor, and diplomat. As a scientist he was a
major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics for his
discoveries regarding electricity. In the words of historian Henry Steele, Franklin is
the most accomplished American of his age and the most influential in inventing the
type of society America would become . Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston,
Massachusetts to Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger. He was the fifteenth child...

Among his creations were the lightning rod, glass harmonica, Franklin Stove,
bifocal glasses and the flexible eathetir. Franklin s most important Discovery was
the phenomenon of electricity in 1746. He was the first to discover the principle
of conservation of charge. Franklin s work with electricity became the basis for
single fluid Theory. the electric turbines resulting from Franklin s work battery

today. Franklin s electrical experiments led to his invention of the lightning rod.
You surmise that the iron rods with a wired down to the ground would draw
lightning away from the building and into the ground thus saving the building
from damage or Fire. His work with electricity was so extensive the unit of
electrical charge is named after him. He also aided in changing the standards of
life with the invention of the Franklin stove. It was a metal line fireplace that
stands in the middle of the room for better airflow and radiation it provides more
heat and less smoke than a standard fireplace and uses less wood. The cast iron

Upton Sinclair s Impact On Society
At the turn of the century, the United States was an industrial country. However,
society was not perfect. Muckrakers were writers who saw and discussed problems
society faced. One muckraker ...aimed at the public s heart, and by accident ... hit it in
the stomach (Bloodsworth). The muckraker s name is Upton Sinclair. Sinclair
affected many aspects of society. Without the writings of Sinclair, society would not
be aware of certain issues it faced such as capitalistic immorals, extensive needed
problems and political problems.
Sinclair s childhood was different than the average American child today. Sinclair
was born to a noble family in Virginia, where poverty was widespread; as a result, he
would later relate to the poverty of society in his ... Show more content on

One of Sinclair s inspirations for some of his novels was his wives experiences
(Eby). Sinclair wrote about every social institution with his novels (Yoder). After
The Jungle, Sinclair wrote his first nonfiction novel The Industrial Republic: A
Study of the America of Ten Years Hence (1907). In 1917, Sinclair wrote King
Coal, which focused on the coal miner s strike. The novel did not succeed as much
as The Jungle because the protagonist was a wealthy outsider (Bloodworth). King
Coal impacted history because it demonstrated that capitalism resulted in the coal
strike (Yoder). After King Coal, Sinclair wrote a less successful Jimmie Higgins
(1919). The protagonist, Jimmie Higgins, a representation of Socialists during
WWI, was not as successful because it was not as convincing and revolutionary
(Bloodworth). Bloodworth mentions his novel was impactful because it saw an
insight towards the Socialist Party. While working in Hollywood, Sinclair wrote
Oil! (1927). Sinclair adopted the cinematic excitement in Hollywood to write Oil!
(Soderbergh) According to Bloodsworth, Oil! is a partially convincing propaganda
book about a son of a wealthy oilman who finances the social party. Oil! was one of
Sinclair s experimental books. His experimental novels impacted society because
they tested which topics authors could write about in the time period. It produced a
four act play (Ingersoll). A political book Sinclair wrote while he ran
Themes In Inheritance Of Loss
Inheritance of loss, is a moving novel by Indian writer Kiran Desai, whereby we see
the effect of colonialism and post colonialism and the consequence that comes with
it. Many critical themes are explored, Leach lists them as colonialism, a revolution,
multi ethnic nationhood and illegal immigration in the US, where political
allegiance impacts on love affairs, and where the reality of life in a grubby New
York basement reshapes the American Dream (2007). Desai mentions many of these
historical events in her novel that give us and insight view as to what was happening
in the inside, within the people of India, as opposed to only seeing the surface and
elections going on. Desai looks at the younger generation as being mainly affected
by losing their identity to the suppression of the Europeanized world. The novel is
set in primarily in the 1980 s, but makes mention of earlier times when the Congress
Party was sparking up as well. These were crucial times... Show more content on

The Judge has a flashback whereby he got rid of his wife for having mistakenly
attended a political rally which was in favor of Nehru. He was later informed that
his wife had partaken of scrambled eggs and toast with top members of the Congress
Party (Desai, 310), even though it wasn t entirely the way it happened but the fact
was that she was there, and the embarrassment which it would have brought upon the
commissioner was enough for the Judge to have lost his career at the time.
Consequently, he lost his temper and abused his wife for this unintentional action. It
is quite ironic that Desai has the Judge, Jemubhai Patel, ruling for the opposition,

A Summary Of Feminist Fairytale Equality For Female...
Good Morning, F.F.E.F.F.C. or more officially, Feminist Fairytale Equality For
Female Characters Conference, thank you for allowing me to be your keynote
speaker and allowing me to share my knowledge with you on an issue I think we
all feel so strongly about. My fellow female characters I want you to just think
about this question, why are females mainly portrayed in literary fiction as docile,
weak and vulnerable beings? Consistently we are made victims of our own stories
waiting to be rescued by a Prince Charming. Yet what we fail to acknowledge is the
impact of our stories and how our very important lives as female characters is
helping to produce a societal upbringing of social genderroles that put females in an
unequal spotlight.
For those who don t know me, I m Molly Whuppie. And I am the protagonist of a
classic Celtic folklore fairytale, a trickster as some may call me. My story has
been passed down for decades and has left me with experience in activism along
with my tireless commitment to people of our specific community. Luckily my
story has been used throughout the years as almost a women empowerment tale.
Unlike many other tales I defeated my own Giant. Obviously, because of the usage
of my quick mind and fast feet I consistently outran and out tricked a mean giant
attempting to kill me. The rarity in my story is exactly the reason why I m here with
you all today. It s the fact that stories like mine are still not primarily represented in
fairytales.
Unfortunately, Even though I defeated my Giant, the reason I had to do what I did
is what connects my stories with you all. I did what I must in order for my sisters
and I to get married. During the time period of my fairytale and so many of yours,
without marriage to enhance our lives and societal status we feel stuck. But now
more than ever, we need to fight back against our original oppressive creators and
rewrite our stories. But it s you that needs to reevaluate and see these problems first
then make the decision that you feel is right in your heart. Just think about all the
roles you ve all played in your own stories, and how they truly play out when you
simplify the plots down. Snow White! Your gender was a threat to another woman

How Women Are Treated in India
In many parts of the world females still have very little rights. Indeed, equality
between men and women have been accepted by the majority of the developed
countries, but developing countries still struggle to see women as equals to men, and
India is one of the worst. Currently, the Indian National Congress Party is only 10%
female, limiting the say women get. In India, women are definitely not seen as equals
to men are being treated like second rate citizens. It also really says something
about the inequality in a country when its women are so used to being treated
badly most of them do not even recognize that they have rights. In India, men were
always valued more than women, which is why an estimated ten million female
foetuses are aborted every year. The lack of females in areas leads to crimes like
human trafficking for sexual reasons like giving birth to more children. Old
traditions and beliefs are the main reasons to why millions of female foetuses are
aborted every year, but it is also the reason behind bride burning, another serious
issue in India.
Bride burning, also known as dowry death occurs quite frequently in India. It is
when the husband or the in laws decide that the dowry the bride offers is not
enough and demands more. If the bride refuses or is financially not able to increase
her dowry, she is tortured until she either agrees or dies; otherwise she is murdered
by her family . The husbands and the in laws usually disguise the deaths as accidents

Symbolism In Shutter Island
I agree with this statement that texts which deserve attention are those that challenge
our thinking. Martin Scorsese s 2010 masterpiece, Shutter Island, challenges our
perception on the human mind. Scorsese s film deserves our attention in the way that
it creatively employs plot twists, uses symbolism and how it portrays the complexity
of trauma within the human mind. As a psychological thriller, Shutter Island captivates
the audience, taking us on the same journey that Teddy Daniels experiences in his
quest to find the truth.
Plot twists are creatively applied to Shutter Island. Presented at the start of the
film, when Teddy Daniels arrives on Shutter Island, Teddy Daniels is a U.S
Marshall. This conveys that he is solving the case of a missing patient who had
escaped. Most importantly, he is searching for the killer of his wife, Andrew
Laeddis, who is supposed to be a patient on the island. To start the paranoia, Chuck
Aule says What if while you were looking into them, they were looking into you?
Chuck identifies the paranoia to unconsciously throw the audience off guard and
Teddy Daniels then seeks to discover the disturbing truths of the institution. As the
truth is clarified, the plot of the film seems to be apparent. As the core plot of
Shutter Island is to find out Who is 67? said by Chuck Aule, it is not until the end
that everything is clarified. Teddy Daniels is in fact the missing patient 67 who is
Andrew Laeddis. He then is disturbed with the truth that
A Lesson Before Dying Analysis
A Lesson Before Dying is a deceptively simple novel that explores numerous
complex themes. Which also explores a prison experience. Set in the fictional
community of Bayonne, Louisiana, in the late 1940s, A Lesson Before Dying tells
the story of Jefferson, a twenty one year old uneducated black field worker
wrongfully accused and convicted of the robbery and murder of a white man, and
sentenced to death by electrocution.
Gaines uses harsh language to reflect the spiritual and personal alienation of humans
in the twentieth century. In a sense, this book is more about the injustice in the
world thanks to racism than actually presenting a treatise on how to live life. Yet
arguably, we can infer such lessons from the way in which the novel presents us
with a world where obvious injustice and inhumanity exists. Clearly, the conviction
and execution of Jefferson is a prime example of this injustice deriving from racism.
The way that he innocently accepts a ride from two men and then is implicated in a
violent struggle, in spite of his lack of understanding of what is really happening, is
enough to give him the death sentence.
Ernest J. Gaines who was born in Oscar Louisiana who is a writer whose fiction, as
exemplified by The Autobiography Of Miss Jane Pittman (1971), his most acclaimed
work, reflects African Americanexperience and the oral tradition of his rural
Louisiana childhood. The three primary characters I chose would be Tante Lou, Miss
Emma, and Reverend Ambrose. I
The Role Of Journalism And Its Impact On Society Essay
In a contemporary society, the role of journalism is a varied one that covers many
different aspects of people s lives. As more and more outlets spring up around the
world, many more stories are able to be covered by different outlets, and this means
that journalism takes on a more and more important role in a contemporary society.
Much of our lives centre on political and social happenings, and journalistic outlets
are the public s way of finding all the information on these event. Journalismalso
provides us with a way of finding out which of these stories are important and
deserve our attention, and which stories can be ignored. The important role of
journalism can be well observed in the recent coverage of the Trans Pacific
Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in both New Zealand and around the world. This
is a ground breaking economic deal, and holds a great deal of importance for the
800 million citizens of the countries involved, as well as the rest of the world. With
worldwide coverage of this deal, it is inevitable that different types of reporting
occurs, and that different outlets will provide different accounts. With so many
different journalism outlets around the world and locally, many have to have a way
of standing out from the crowd. This means that some extremely different coverage
of very similar stories can occur. However it can also simply be down to different
ownership, differing political views, and different socio economic environments. Two

Cadbury is the leading player in confectionery, with its Dairy Milk brand, as

Cadbury has unfortunately seen lack of penetration in the rural market where people
tend to dismiss it as a high end product, as the prices do range between standard and
premium, never any less. The reason for high prices is due some of the cocoa, a
major ingredient, having to be imported, resulting in several charges and a higher
inventory. The company must also find solutions to natural conditions, for example,
heat. The majority of the markets in India are not air conditioned, hence cannot store
chocolates, at least during hot summers, which limits market access.
Industrial Production
Cadbury, beside many other companies, supply the local market through its local
production units. Cadbury India manages to practice this through five factories,
located in Thane, Pune, Induri and Malanpur in West India, and Baddi in North
India. Cocoa, being a major raw material as discussed, is not only imported but also
procured mainly from local plantations in South India, in the states of Kerala, Tamil
Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The company, after manufacturing many of its
mouthwatering products exports them in bulk to Sri Lanka, Dubai, the US and the
Maldives. The positive outcome of this is that Cadbury India does not have to be
involved in third party manufacturing.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Food Inc
Food Inc. : A Rhetorical Analysis Food Inc., a documentary film produced by
Robert Kenner and based on Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation, is designed to
inform the American people of the food industry s sinister side. The film paints the
food industry in a more realistic light than the advertised and perceived image of
an Agrarian America. Food Inc. not only uses compelling images, such as
hundreds of baby chickens being raised in spaces no larger than a desk drawer, but
also includes the voices and stories of farmers, businessmen and women,
government officials, and victims of the food industry. As the film is being played,
the audience sees the horrors and immorality of the food industry, feels disgust
towards the unethical greed for wealth over safety of customers, shares in the
helplessness of oppressed farmers, workers, and animals, finally feeling a sense of
hope at the end where the film tells the audience they can vote for safer, better foods
with what they decide to buy. Food Inc. effectively intertwines visual elements along
with commentary, forging an ominous and foreboding image of the food industry
that is furthered by its audio track and expert testimonies, creating a potent warning
to the American consumer of the darker side within the food industry. In the opening
moments of the film, images of corn and wheat fields spanning acres of land, along
with a cattle rancher riding his horse among a magnificent grassy landscape
surrounded by trees, are
Anselm s Ontological Argument Paper
In this paper, I will deliver a reconstruction of Anselm s Ontological argument for the
existence of God, and its adequacy for the existence of the greatest conceivable being.
I will establish this by proving that Anselm s premises are sound and that the
deductive arguments follow through a valid conclusion.
Prior to reconstructing the argument, I will inspect the a priori ontological argument,
an argument that is solely justified through reasoning alone and based upon concepts
and logical relations. To begin with, Anselm introduces the fool , one that denies the
existence of a greater conceivable being. He argues that this fool understands what
is conceived but does not believe it to actually exist. The fool merely conceives of
such a being to exist in his mind, because he has been told of its existence. Anselm
adopts the fool s understanding of God s existence to prove his a priori argument, as
if God exists in the understanding alone, but can be conceived to exist in reality, then
God must exist in reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To portray this, he depicts how something can exist in the mind, but also reality. To
further explain this, the analogy of a painter is exemplified. Before a painter
illustrates his masterpiece, the painter has an understanding in his mind, yet knows it
not to exist; the painter only understands it as a concept. However, upon completion
of the masterpiece, the painter will come to understand that the concept exists in his
mind, as he had the visual of the painting before he had constructed it, and also in
reality, because the painting can now be seen in reality, and can be understood to

The Machine Gunners critical essay

Question: Choose a novel which explores an important theme.
Identify this theme and in your essay explain how this is explored.
(You should consider the message(s) the author wishes to deliver on this theme.)
The theme of war. The novel, The Machine Gunnersby Robert Westall tells the story
of an adolescent boy and his friends. Westall s novel gives an interesting account of
the bombings of an English town during World War II. Constant exposure to the
atrocities of war forces the main characters in The Machine Gunners to grow up
too quickly. Chas McGill attempts to survive in a confusing world by exercising
some control over his corner of Garmouth. His inability to stay a passive child in
the face of terror results in his transition from a naive collector of war souvenirs to
a leader of an underground fortress. Robert Westall provides vivid and realistic
descriptions of the bombings and their aftermath. Chas safely collects pieces of
shrapnel in the streets but also comes face to face with a disfigured, and decaying
German soldier. Westall s novel explores the theme of war through adolescent eyes
and highlights the need to support one another during difficult times. In Westall s
novel, the theme of war is portrayed through the main characters and shows how they
develop through the war time. Because of the war, it means children are changing too
quickly and forcing them to grow up quicker.
The Structure Of A Federal Government
Intro:
With the structure of a Federal government, a ruling Parliament and a written
constitution, the country of Xlandia will now be served at its best, now and over
time. By restricting, both, the government and the citizens from too much power, the
base of this system will be provided by individuals with enough knowledge and

It should not be a political entity, which does whatever it wants. This makes sure
that the armed forces do not do anything unseen, as an autonomous uncontrolled
army can cause all manner of issues like refusing to defend certain peoples or
ignoring civilian rights just because it feels like it. Therefore the military must go

national armed forces will also send an representative to recommend military options

police and local militia shall be independant from the military, under county and

War On Drugs And Drug Trafficking
Organized crime is destructive to all countries it effects. In terms of the United States,
it is plagued by human trafficking, drug trafficking, and weapons trafficking. One of
the most harmful organized crimes is drug trafficking. What makes drug trafficking
organized is the system of production to distribution. Drugtrafficking organizations
have a hierarchy of power from the kingpins to the couriers. Drug also has political
influence they are able to bribe and blackmail politicians. Trafficking drugs is a multi

Some immigrants are even recruited, they do this because drug smugglers fund
their way into the United States. So many people are desperate to get out of
Mexico they risk their freedom. In recent news, their was also an American man
who used a drone to smuggle drugs over from Mexico to California. He was carrying
fifty thousand dollars worth of cocaine. Although I do believe the border should be
protected, I don t agree building a wall will stop drug trafficking from Mexico.
Before the transportation of narcotic there is an extensive production process. For
example, cocaine production begins in the forest of Colombia. Colombia produces
over half the world s cocaine. They pay farmers to produce the cocoa leaf and
transform it into a paste then a powder. Growing cocaine is just as risky as smuggling
it. To combat the growth of the cocoa leaf, Colombian drug enforcement destroy the
cocoa farms. They light farms on fire to deter famers from growing it. Law
enforcement is not the only danger in drug trafficking. Drug cartels leaders are brutal,
and enforce their rule through murder. For example, if people don t want to
participate in they just remove the people putting fear in the entire community.
Organized crimes can fund each other. Drug trafficking increases weapons
trafficking because weapons are needed to protect and enforce the drug trade. So as
the need for drugs rises, the need for weapons will rise to creating a cycle of

The Center Of Philadelphi The Tower Of Terror
If you have ever been to Philly, you have probably passed it at one time an old
abandoned building, which at one time was the center of Philadelphia attention. I
have travelled through Philadelphia many times and have passed this impressive
Victorian style building. Despite its abandoned and rundown appearance, I have
always said that this building had so much beauty and potential. The outside of the
building has intricate arching and architecture, and has eye catching brick and stone
detailing. Driving down Broad Street, going from North Philly towards the center of
downtown, my eyes always drifted to the left to stare at this building a structure
somewhat resembling the Tower of Terror from Disney World. After passing this
building various times, my mind began to question if this building was at one time
a well kept and prosperous place. As I passed this building once more, I took note of
the rickety sign that sits on top of the building that reads Divine Lorraine Hotel. I

1. Introduction
Content Based Information Retrieval (CBIR) is the field that constitutes
representation of images, organizing and searching of images based on their content
rather than annotations of image. CBIR, also known as query by image content and
content based visual information retrieval (CBVIR) is the application of computer
vision techniques to the image retrieval problem, that is, the matter of checking out
digital pictures in massive databases.
Content based implies that the search analyzes the contents of the image based not on
keywords, descriptions related to image, tags or annotations but based on features
extracted directly from the image data. The term ... Show more content on

Images with higher similarity than threshold are returned as an output. System which
uses the content of the object for Information Retrieval is the CBIR.
There are many applications of Content Based Information Retrieval. Image retrieval
is one of the applications of CBIR. Few applications of CBIR are art collections,
architectural and engineering design, crime prevention, Defense, Face detection etc.
Mostly CBIR is applied on the Multimedia data.
CBIR faces some problems. The trouble with the technique is the issue of high
dimensionality. With the increase in the dimensionality CBIR becomes time
consuming system and highly computation bound. Also with variety of applications
of CBIR, there is need to preserve the privacy of user interest.
A. Need of the Privacy Preservation in CBIR
Privacy can be outlined as The quality of being secluded from the presence or view
of others . In CBIR user provides some Multimedia object (e.g. an image of
trademark to check whether the same trademark is already exist or not) as query
and system provides required results. During this process system must realize the
similarity between user query and objects in the database. At this time system gets
the user query and query reveals the content and interest of the user and here is the
privacy leak in the system. Here the original trademark can be compromised or can
be copied. Generally CBIR is multi party system, in which there are minimum 2

Devastating Tsunami in Thailand
Tsunami in in Thailand 2004 The tsunami in Thailand that occurred on December 26,
2004, was by far the largest tsunami catastrophe in human history. It was triggered by
a magnitude 9.1 9.3 earthquake along the Indian Australian seduction zone off the
northern coast of Sumatra. The tsunami waves traveled primarily in the east to west
direction and caused major damage along the coasts of southern Thailand.
Unpredictably, it was a violent earthquake beneath the sea that initiated the massive
waves and struck more than a dozen countries in Southern Asia. It also destroyed
thousands of miles of coastline and even submerged entire islands permanently.

However, with just minutes notice, and clear orders to escape, various citizens who
had no clue what was going on, or how to respond, could have escaped to safeguard.
Absolutely, the tsunami and earthquake that triggered it are natural phenomena and
we, as humans, cannot presumably control the inevitably occurrence of natural
disaster.
In addition, if the proper scientific equipment would have been in place, the pattern
of a tsunami could have been also be identified and forecasted. (World Socialist

According to Gail Stewart, experts say that a tsunami warning system has existed but
only in the Pacific Ocean. Evidently, there was no such system in place in the Indian
Ocean. Specialists declare that these tsunamis are fairly common in the Pacific, more
than 90 percent arise.
She also mentions that not only a tsunami warning system costs a huge amount of
money, but also it did not occur to some people to build a warning system for such
an unusual occurrence had never seemed like an imperative investment. However, Dr
Laura Kong a tsunami expert explains that It s an inexact science now (17).
Therefore, it is an unpredictable incidence no one knows exactly when a tsunami will
occur since every earthquake doesn t automatically trigger a tsunami. In the lack of
planning, preparation and additional equipment, it is hard to make accurate
predictions. Moreover, time is of the essence,
Orthopedic Infection
Infection is the most dreaded complication in orthopedic surgery. It causes
increased morbidity and mortality and is a source of great harassment not only for
the patient but the doctor as well. Incidence of Surgical site infection in USA is
more than 2% [1]. Whereas in India the infection ranges from 2.5 41% [2]. This
causes an increase in the mortality rate by 2 3 times. The rate of postoperative
infection in procedures like total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement
(TKR) is 1 5%. [3]
Preoperative systemic antibiotic prophylaxis for implant surgeries in orthopaedics is
commonly used [4]. Studies show that regardless of the precautions being used,
prophylactic antibiotics do reduce the incidence of infection [1,5 7]. Three ... Show

The Theme Of Fear In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A
Time
In literature, the theme of a story is very important because it allows the reader to
be able to connect all parts of the story together and even apply what was learned
from it to their real life. Theme is the unifying generalization about life stated or
implied in the story by either the author or by one of the characters. In Nadine
Gordimers short story, Once Upon a Time we read about a woman who is
frightened by a sound in her house which causes her imagination to spiral into fear.
This immense amount of fear leads to her thinking about the worst possible things
than can happen to her at that moment. Not only does it cause this, but it also
makes her start telling herself a bedtime story. The theme of this short story is that
fear can cause overreaction and makes things seem a lot more worse than they
actually are. It shows us how sometimes fear can be our own self destruction. To
begin with, the theme of the story can first be seen when the woman is still in
deep conflict with the sound she hears in the shadows that surround her in her
room. For example, the author states, I couldn t find a position in which my mind
would let go of my body release me to my sleep (Gordimer 232). This clearly
demonstrates that fear can have a strong hold over an individual, which can be both
mental and physical. Here we learn that the woman was unable to drift back to sleep
because her fear was too great that it prevented her from being able to rest. This tells
us that sometimes
Lateral Violence As A Non Physical Act
Lateral violence is described as a non physical act occurring between individuals and
is intended to hurt another person emotionally. It may be a secretive or noticeable act
of verbal or non verbal hostility. The actions can extend exterior to the place of work
and can be perpetrated individually or in cyberspace. Within the nursing community,
lateral violence is described as aggression behaviors amongst nurses. The most
common forms of lateral violence in the nursing practice include: undermining
actions, withholding information, interference, backbiting, incrimination,
backstabbing, broken confidences, and failure to respect the privacy of another
person. Workplace conflict leads to adverse impacts on registered nurses, patients,
other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other issues mentioned include discrimination in the workplace, the perception of
subjection, anger, and power wrangles within healthcare organizations. They further
conclude that health care organizations need to eradicate antecedent and equip nurses
with skills and techniques required to eliminate lateral violence and improve the
nursing workplace, patient health care, and nurse retention. A study by Jean Carban
titled Lateral violence in nursing , presents three major factors contributing to lateral
violence: Oppression in the workplace, gender issues, and low self esteem. The
author argues that there has been the culture of domination within the nursing
community leaving nurses feeling powerless. This is further intensified by the fear of
reprisal and punishment preventing the nurses from responding to oppression.
Consequently, nurses feel hurt and vulnerable since this cycle is repeated. Gender
theory as a cause of lateral violence maintains that lateral violence happens because
socialization amongst women does not allow them appreciates themselves and the
role they play in nursing. The gender theory postulates that female nurses do not feel
equal in control or professional stature. As a result, they become unsatisfied and angry
and will let out their feelings on each other. Within the nursing community, positive
self esteem enables empathetic conducts; the provision of personalized, universal
care, and
The Machine That Won The War Essay
Short stories have been around since the 19th century and have become a great art
form of the 20th and 21st century. These short stories are well known for their use of
figurative language, foreshadowing, irony, and themes. Two of the greatest short
stories would be The Story of the Hour by Kate Chopin published in 1895 and The
Machine that Won the War by Isaac Asimov
published in 1961. They have been
praised by many for their use of ironyin these short stories. Therefore, I will be
comparing and contrasting The Story of the Hour and The Machine that Won the
War in types of irony, foreshadowing, and themes used for the short stories. In
addition, I will first be differentiating and comparing the irony in both of the short
stories. There are two examples of situational irony in Kate Chopin s Story of the
Hour . The first is how instead of grieving her husband s death Louise feels like a
weight has been lifted from her and she can finally live a life where she makes her
own choices. As stated in the text, When she abandoned herself a little whispered
word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it over and over under her breath:...

Firstly, in The Story of the Hour it notes at the beginning of the story, Knowing that
Ms. Mallard was afflicted with heart trouble.... (The Story of the Hour, Kate
Chopin). This foreshadows that Ms. Mallard will die from a heart attack at the end
of the story. However the foreshadowing in The Machine that Won the War is easier
to spot. For instance, in the story one of the character s named Max says, What s that
to me? Let Multivac be the machine that won the war, if it pleases them (The
Machine that Won the War, Isaac Asimov). This foreshadows that not all is as it
appeared to be concerning the supercomputer Multivac that supposedly won the won.

The, And, By Ernest Holmes
Ernest Holmes addresses a trepidation we may have when giving: our resources
will be temporarily depleted. It is common sense that the more we give, the less
we have; but there is a principle at work which defies common sense, because the
appearance of loss and lack is deceptive. Once we have sown a seed our hands are
empty, but the soil is full and soon we will have our hands full with the harvest of
that seed. If we had held onto that seed, there would be no harvest and we would
eventually be empty handed. However, giving in a principled manner does not
incur a loss, but gains. Giving, as a matter of principle, is the difference between
gaining more or having less. Of course, if we go through the motions of giving
appearing to give, but actually throwing money away in an unprincipled manner,
then we have simply wasted our time, and our treasure. Not every seed sown,
grows; some fall on hard, stony ground and never take root. Not every prayer is heard
and answered; some fall on deaf ears our own. Having ears, we hear not. Having eyes,
we see not. And having our hands full, we give not. It is a shame, because we could
give, have and enjoy more.
DIMINISHED EXPECTATIONS
Holmes relates the responsiveness of Life to the idea that Nature abhors a vacuum. In
an infinite universe, there cannot be an empty void, a place where God is not. All
space, all vessels, all containers must be filled with something. So, when something
is drawn out of one place, more is drawn

Encyclopaedia Britannica (2009) cautions that cult worship is so universal in religion
that some historians of religion actually define religion as cult.
From the definitions given so far, we can deduce that cultism/cult, secret cult and
secret society are secret groups of people whose members are bound on an oath to
keep the activities of each and every member secret. It is also safe to say that cult
fraternity may be violent or beneficial to the society, depending on the objectives of
the members. For example, some secret cults are formed to provide benevolent
services while others are formed due to political reasons to protect the interest of the

Dimethyl Ether And Propane Research Paper
The substances dimethyl ether and propane have both similarities and differences.
Both of these molecules two carbon atoms that have tetrahedral molecular geometry.
The dimethyl ether s third atom, hydroxide, has bent molecular geometry, while
propane s third atom, carbon, has tetrahedral molecular geometry. Both of the
molecules have three central atoms. The propane moleculeonly contains carbonand
hydrogen atoms, which makes the line structure not have any element symbols. The
dimethyl ether molecule has a hydroxide atomin addition to the hydrogen and carbon
atoms, which adds the OH symbol to the line structure. The hydroxide atom also
makes the dimethyl ether molecule asymmetrical and polar, unlike propane that is
a symmetrical and nonpolar molecule. These polarity and structural differences
cause these two molecules to have different physical properties and different uses.
Some of propane s physical properties include that it is an odorless, colorless gas. It
is typically shipped as a pressurized and liquefied gas. Propane s boiling point is
42.1В°C, and its melting point is 189.6В°C. The density of propane is .493 g/L at

IS HIGH FIDELITY FLIGHT SIMULATION NECESSARY FOR AIRLINE PILOT
TRAINING?
Abstract
One of the difficulties when objectivity looking into defining the levels of fidelity
required in training simulations is that simulators are frequently seen as replacements
for training that previously would have been conducted on the real equipment. The
perception therefore is that the simulation should be as close as possible to the real
deal in order to successfully replace it. However, the genuine advantage of using
simulation in training is that where the actual equipment is designed for real
operations, a training simulator can be designed to meet specific training needs
without unnecessarily extending the fidelity of the simulation. A vital... Show more

This has lead to an overemphasis on technological advancement to enhance
simulation based training (Francis Heybroek, 1992). In turn, this focus creates a lack

All this leads into another important aspect of simulation fidelity; Instructional
Systems Design (ISD). ISD is definitively linked to training effectiveness and is
relative to the way in which simulator based training is designed for the target
audience. Recently there has been considerable research which suggests that there is
not a straightforward relationship between the increased realism of high fidelity
simulation and any significant enhancement in training effectiveness (National
Center for Simulation, 2007). In fact, the research actually shows that increases in
both efficiency and transfer of training do occur through the careful process of ISD,
and in particular the design of simulation based scenarios that are responsive to the
real operational needs of the target learner. These research results provide the first
facet that high fidelity simulation is not necessarily required for airline pilot training.
Operational Fidelity
Within the commercial aviation setting, considerable criticism has been directed at
the current forms of simulator based training for their singular focus on the

Hearsay is not confined to oral statements or writings. Nonverbal conduct that is the
equivalent of a verbal statement can be hearsay. All courts agree that conduct
intended as a substitute for words is within the hearsay prohibition when offered to
prove the truth of the intended assertion. Assertive conduct of this type would include
physical gestures such as sign language, affirmative nods, or communicative motions
in answer to questions, or identification of a person by pointing to him.
A related and more difficult question is presented when the actor declarant does not
intend his conduct to communicate anything. ... Show more content on

Instead, she just nodded head and pointed to the defendant. This action is a kind of
non verbal hearsay.
On cross examination, Defense Counsel offers a prior statement given by Miss
Maggie on the day in question, where Miss Maggie gave a statement to the
investigating police officers called to the college. In the statement offered by
Defense Counsel, Miss Maggie told the police that she did not clearly see who had
made the statement about the presence of a bomb in the building referred to during
Direct Examination. In this situation, readings Miss Maggie also be regarded as
hearsay. Obviously, Miss Maggie clearly did not see who made the statement, which
the bomb planted in the school building. She just could not admit that I heard this
statement from a student and certainly can not say who it was really.
Especially good example can be considered hearsay when questioning Mr. Mickie.
According to Mr. Mickie, Miss Maggie turned to him and told him that she had just
heard a student say that a bomb had been planted somewhere in the building. Mr.
Mickie also testifies that when he asked Miss Maggie which student said the bomb
had been planted, she just stared wide eyed at Mr. Mickie and slowly shook her head.
Analyzing data contention Miss Maggie should be noted that this is a hearsay. In one
case, a verbal when it directly transfers the circumstances are known. Otherwise, it
was a non verbal hearsay. The statement is rumored months ago that Maggie was
Essay on Expand Ukraine’s Political Ambitions
The month of November in Ukraine was interesting, to say the least. Politically, the
Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych attempts to reform amending bills, while
also socially ignoring the decline in press freedom. However, a major noteworthy
article appeared on the stands: Ukraine goes offshore. This article is probably one of
the most important events that occurred in November, which discusses revenue lost
on offshore taxschemes. As an attempt to electronically expand Ukraine s political
ambitions, Viktor Yanukovychpassed a recent bill early in November that will allow
votes in the Parliament to be conducted by an electronic card (Ukrainian). Although
not technically monumental, the bill will allow members of Parliament an easier...

He even goes as far as to say, the written press is as it was before (AFP). The
information associated with Google s article, President denies problem with
Ukraine press freedom , discusses the television networks across Ukraine as
experiencing horrendous mishaps, such as the censoring of broadcasts and the
removal of episodes that go against the regulations transpired by the president. If
Yanukovych does not approve of the media associated with the press, he opposes
the spreading of the ideas. Unfortunately, Yanukovych seems to acknowledge the
fact that he will only allow production of news, journals, pictures, etc., if they
portray the truth. The truth, in fact, is quite limited by the strict regulations
Yanukovych orders Ukraine s networking companies to follow. As this issue is
heightened by Yanukovych s disapproval and lack of understanding, I definitely
am worried for the social state of the nation. As someone living in a free nation, I
understand the social liberties that are given to a nation, and how it allows people
to globalize their social understandings. Once Ukraine becomes socially deteriorated
by Yanukovych s policies, Ukraine will suffer with various downfalls in freedom. I
am a strong opponent to this ordeal for these reasons. I feel that Yanukoyvch
continues to fear opposition and removal from office, so he eliminates all possible
enemies. By exterminating the social
Reform Movements Dbq
During the 19th century, many reform movements occurred which helped shape
America. The United States was still developing to achieve an ideal nation, in order
to achieve it s goal there were many reforms. Reform movements occurred in many
places, categories, and led by many magnificent figures. Reform movements ranged
from women s rights, education, slavery, and many more. Despite the equality
reforms such as abolition and women s suffrage, the majority of reforms carried out
in the early 19th century focused on a utopian society, instead of democratic ideals.
Therefore, the opinion that all reform movements in America at this time sought to
expand democratic ideals is invalid specific to this time period.
The utopian society was greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morse shows that by stating the social problems of the immigrants rather than any
democratic viewpoints of them. Another major factor in achieving an utopian
society was the religious reforms. Charles G. Finney states the people must change
their spiritual duties to religion since the people needed to prioritized religion
since it adds to achieving an idealistic society (Document B). Charles G. Finney
was an Presbyterian minister and leader in the Second Great Awakening, religious
revival. The people should not abandon God and his ideals, to secure the people s
religious aspects people should wake up and become good children of God. Finney
s statement was a cry for all people to become religious again, it was intended for all
people especially those who have forgotten than religious values. This shows that
democratic reforms wasn t sought to expand the US, religious reforms held more
importance especially in the preachers and religious ministers. Along with a need of
religious revival, the temperance movement
Ufo Research Paper
An unidentified flying object, also known as a UFO, have been around since the
early records of history. UFOs are typically associated with extraterrestrial life or in
some circumstances there has been some conspiracy theories that they are
government related. UFOs have been used and portrayed heavily in Hollywood
films throughout the decades and in the media. Technically a UFO could be
categorized as an unknown plane or helicopter but when instead UFOs are brought
up people think of a saucer like object shown in the picture. Since the birth of the
UFO the media and Hollywood have in a way blown the thoughts of UFOs out of
proportion. The large majority of UFO sightings have been made from citizens and
they can be easily dismissed. Also, many UFO sighting cases go unseen due to the
government and how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This case was different from others because in the past the claims that were made
of UFO sightings or landings came from uncredited people who were just civilians
and had no credibility. These sightings came from multiple people that hold a
prestigious and well respected position. Reports were made from on duty police
officers that they spotted lights descending into the forests. Astronomers have said
that these lights were a piece of natural debris burning up as a fireball. The men on
duty first thought that it was a downed aircraft and naturally went out to go check
on it and see what was happening. As they entered the forest to investigate, they
claimed to have seen a glowing object, metallic in appearance with different colored
lights. As the men went closer to check it out, the object started to move through the
trees, causing animals on nearby farms to panic and freak out. A couple hours later,
the local police were called out to the scene where the UFO was reported, the only
lights that were seen by them came from a local lighthouse a couple miles on the
coast.

Citing A Website In An Essay. 012 How To Reference An Article In Essay Citing Pic Thatsnotus

  • 1. Citing A Website In An Essay Writing an essay on the subject of citing a website in an essay may initially appear straightforward, but as one delves into the intricacies of proper citation, the task can reveal its complexity. The difficulty lies not only in understanding the specific citation style required, such as APA, MLA, or Chicago, but also in navigating the nuances associated with online sources. Firstly, the guidelines for citing websites often vary depending on the citation style chosen. Each style has its own set of rules regarding the placement of information such as the author's name, publication date, and the URL. Juggling these details correctly is crucial to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the essay. Additionally, the dynamic nature of online content introduces challenges. Websites can be updated, and URLs can change, making it imperative to provide the most current and reliable information. This requires a keen eye for detail and an understanding of how to adapt citations to accommodate these changes. Moreover, the diverse range of online sources—such as articles, blog posts, or web pages—adds another layer of complexity. Each type of source may have specific formatting requirements, and recognizing these distinctions is essential for a well-crafted essay. While various online tools and citation generators are available, relying solely on them can be a pitfall. Understanding the underlying principles of citation is crucial to discern when these tools might fall short or provide inaccurate information. In conclusion, the seemingly straightforward task of citing a website in an essay unveils its intricacies when one delves into the specific requirements of citation styles, the dynamic nature of online content, and the diversity of online sources. Successfully navigating these challenges requires attention to detail, a thorough understanding of citation guidelines, and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of online information. For assistance with essays on similar topics or any other academic writing needs, various services are available, such as HelpWriting.net, where you can find support tailored to your requirements. • 2. The Drilling Of The Oil In the United States, more than 50 percent of oil used is imported from other countries, and is shipped over by large tanker ships (Energy Quest 2012). Petroleum is made into various products such as gasoline/ diesel fuel, home heating oil, fertilizers, and plastic products (Energy Quest 2012). 74 percent of our oil is used for transportation including, trucks, buses, cars, and planes (Energy Quest 2012). Drilling of the oil is a costly process and has severe effects to the environment. Drilling on land requires a lot of space, disturbing the natural animal habitats, while drilling at sea impacts surrounding marine life (ELI 2015). Petroleumis toxic and not biodegradable, so when oil spills at sea, oil slick spreads rapidly over the water killing vast numbers of marine plants and animals (ELI 2015). Refineries emit toxins into the air and water supply as petroleum is processed to a usable oil, as it is used, petroleum products are emitted into the air contributing to global warming (ELI 2015). America has had a historically dominant patriarchal system with a particular type of man in charge: the white, heterosexual, male, who until the 60s 70s had yet to be challenged in his birthright claim to authority and status. • 7. A Summary Of Feminist Fairytale Equality For Female... Good Morning, F.F.E.F.F.C. or more officially, Feminist Fairytale Equality For Female Characters Conference, thank you for allowing me to be your keynote speaker and allowing me to share my knowledge with you on an issue I think we all feel so strongly about. My fellow female characters I want you to just think about this question, why are females mainly portrayed in literary fiction as docile, weak and vulnerable beings? Consistently we are made victims of our own stories waiting to be rescued by a Prince Charming. Yet what we fail to acknowledge is the impact of our stories and how our very important lives as female characters is helping to produce a societal upbringing of social genderroles that put females in an unequal spotlight. For those who don t know me, I m Molly Whuppie. And I am the protagonist of a classic Celtic folklore fairytale, a trickster as some may call me. My story has been passed down for decades and has left me with experience in activism along with my tireless commitment to people of our specific community. Luckily my story has been used throughout the years as almost a women empowerment tale. Unlike many other tales I defeated my own Giant. Obviously, because of the usage of my quick mind and fast feet I consistently outran and out tricked a mean giant attempting to kill me. The rarity in my story is exactly the reason why I m here with you all today. It s the fact that stories like mine are still not primarily represented in fairytales. Unfortunately, Even though I defeated my Giant, the reason I had to do what I did is what connects my stories with you all. I did what I must in order for my sisters and I to get married. During the time period of my fairytale and so many of yours, without marriage to enhance our lives and societal status we feel stuck. But now more than ever, we need to fight back against our original oppressive creators and rewrite our stories. But it s you that needs to reevaluate and see these problems first then make the decision that you feel is right in your heart. Just think about all the roles you ve all played in your own stories, and how they truly play out when you simplify the plots down. Snow White! Your gender was a threat to another woman and you

Indeed, equality between men and women have been accepted by the majority of the developed countries, but developing countries still struggle to see women as equals to men, and India is one of the worst. Currently, the Indian National Congress Party is only 10% female, limiting the say women get. In India, women are definitely not seen as equals to men are being treated like second rate citizens. It also really says something about the inequality in a country when its women are so used to being treated badly most of them do not even recognize that they have rights. In India, men were always valued more than women, which is why an estimated ten million female foetuses are aborted every year. The lack of females in areas leads to crimes like human trafficking for sexual reasons like giving birth to more children. Old traditions and beliefs are the main reasons to why millions of female foetuses are aborted every year, but it is also the reason behind bride burning, another serious issue in India. Bride burning, also known as dowry death occurs quite frequently in India. It is when the husband or the in laws decide that the dowry the bride offers is not enough and demands more. • 9. Symbolism In Shutter Island I agree with this statement that texts which deserve attention are those that challenge our thinking. Martin Scorsese s 2010 masterpiece, Shutter Island, challenges our perception on the human mind. Scorsese s film deserves our attention in the way that it creatively employs plot twists, uses symbolism and how it portrays the complexity of trauma within the human mind. As a psychological thriller, Shutter Island captivates the audience, taking us on the same journey that Teddy Daniels experiences in his quest to find the truth. Plot twists are creatively applied to Shutter Island. Presented at the start of the film, when Teddy Daniels arrives on Shutter Island, Teddy Daniels is a U.S Marshall. This conveys that he is solving the case of a missing patient who had escaped. Most importantly, he is searching for the killer of his wife, Andrew Laeddis, who is supposed to be a patient on the island. To start the paranoia, Chuck Aule says What if while you were looking into them, they were looking into you? Chuck identifies the paranoia to unconsciously throw the audience off guard and Teddy Daniels then seeks to discover the disturbing truths of the institution. As the truth is clarified, the plot of the film seems to be apparent. As the core plot of Shutter Island is to find out Who is 67? said by Chuck Aule, it is not until the end that everything is clarified. Teddy Daniels is in fact the missing patient 67 who is Andrew Laeddis. He then is disturbed with the truth that
  • 10. A Lesson Before Dying Analysis A Lesson Before Dying is a deceptively simple novel that explores numerous complex themes. Which also explores a prison experience. Set in the fictional community of Bayonne, Louisiana, in the late 1940s, A Lesson Before Dying tells the story of Jefferson, a twenty one year old uneducated black field worker wrongfully accused and convicted of the robbery and murder of a white man, and sentenced to death by electrocution. Gaines uses harsh language to reflect the spiritual and personal alienation of humans in the twentieth century. In a sense, this book is more about the injustice in the world thanks to racism than actually presenting a treatise on how to live life. Yet arguably, we can infer such lessons from the way in which the novel presents us with a world where obvious injustice and inhumanity exists. Clearly, the conviction and execution of Jefferson is a prime example of this injustice deriving from racism. The way that he innocently accepts a ride from two men and then is implicated in a violent struggle, in spite of his lack of understanding of what is really happening, is enough to give him the death sentence. Ernest J. As more and more outlets spring up around the world, many more stories are able to be covered by different outlets, and this means that journalism takes on a more and more important role in a contemporary society. Much of our lives centre on political and social happenings, and journalistic outlets are the public s way of finding all the information on these event. Journalismalso provides us with a way of finding out which of these stories are important and deserve our attention, and which stories can be ignored. The important role of journalism can be well observed in the recent coverage of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in both New Zealand and around the world. This is a ground breaking economic deal, and holds a great deal of importance for the 800 million citizens of the countries involved, as well as the rest of the world. Rhetorical Analysis Of Food Inc Food Inc. : A Rhetorical Analysis Food Inc., a documentary film produced by Robert Kenner and based on Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation, is designed to inform the American people of the food industry s sinister side. The film paints the food industry in a more realistic light than the advertised and perceived image of an Agrarian America. Food Inc. not only uses compelling images, such as hundreds of baby chickens being raised in spaces no larger than a desk drawer, but also includes the voices and stories of farmers, businessmen and women, government officials, and victims of the food industry. As the film is being played, the audience sees the horrors and immorality of the food industry, feels disgust towards the unethical greed for wealth over safety of customers, shares in the helplessness of oppressed farmers, workers, and animals, finally feeling a sense of hope at the end where the film tells the audience they can vote for safer, better foods with what they decide to buy. Food Inc. effectively intertwines visual elements along with commentary, forging an ominous and foreboding image of the food industry that is furthered by its audio track and expert testimonies, creating a potent warning to the American consumer of the darker side within the food industry. In the opening moments of the film, images of corn and wheat fields spanning acres of land, along with a cattle rancher riding his horse among a magnificent grassy landscape surrounded by trees, are

Anselm s Ontological Argument Paper In this paper, I will deliver a reconstruction of Anselm s Ontological argument for the existence of God, and its adequacy for the existence of the greatest conceivable being. I will establish this by proving that Anselm s premises are sound and that the deductive arguments follow through a valid conclusion. Prior to reconstructing the argument, I will inspect the a priori ontological argument, an argument that is solely justified through reasoning alone and based upon concepts and logical relations. To begin with, Anselm introduces the fool , one that denies the existence of a greater conceivable being. He argues that this fool understands what is conceived but does not believe it to actually exist. The fool merely conceives of such a being to exist in his mind, because he has been told of its existence. Anselm adopts the fool s understanding of God s existence to prove his a priori argument, as if God exists in the understanding alone, but can be conceived to exist in reality, then God must exist in reality. ... However, upon completion of the masterpiece, the painter will come to understand that the concept exists in his mind, as he had the visual of the painting before he had constructed it, and also in reality, because the painting can now be seen in reality, and can be understood to

  • 26. The Theme Of Fear In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time In literature, the theme of a story is very important because it allows the reader to be able to connect all parts of the story together and even apply what was learned from it to their real life. Theme is the unifying generalization about life stated or implied in the story by either the author or by one of the characters. In Nadine Gordimers short story, Once Upon a Time we read about a woman who is frightened by a sound in her house which causes her imagination to spiral into fear. This immense amount of fear leads to her thinking about the worst possible things than can happen to her at that moment. Not only does it cause this, but it also makes her start telling herself a bedtime story. The theme of this short story is that fear can cause overreaction and makes things seem a lot more worse than they actually are. It shows us how sometimes fear can be our own self destruction. To begin with, the theme of the story can first be seen when the woman is still in deep conflict with the sound she hears in the shadows that surround her in her room. For example, the author states, I couldn t find a position in which my mind would let go of my body release me to my sleep (Gordimer 232). This clearly demonstrates that fear can have a strong hold over an individual, which can be both mental and physical. Here we learn that the woman was unable to drift back to sleep because her fear was too great that it prevented her from being able to rest. This tells us that sometimes

A study by Jean Carban titled Lateral violence in nursing , presents three major factors contributing to lateral violence: Oppression in the workplace, gender issues, and low self esteem. The author argues that there has been the culture of domination within the nursing community leaving nurses feeling powerless. This is further intensified by the fear of reprisal and punishment preventing the nurses from responding to oppression. Consequently, nurses feel hurt and vulnerable since this cycle is repeated. Gender theory as a cause of lateral violence maintains that lateral violence happens because socialization amongst women does not allow them appreciates themselves and the role they play in nursing. The gender theory postulates that female nurses do not feel equal in control or professional stature. As a result, they become unsatisfied and angry and will let out their feelings on each other. Within the nursing community, positive self esteem enables empathetic conducts; the provision of personalized, universal care, and

These short stories are well known for their use of figurative language, foreshadowing, irony, and themes. Two of the greatest short stories would be The Story of the Hour by Kate Chopin published in 1895 and The Machine that Won the War by Isaac Asimov published in 1961. They have been praised by many for their use of ironyin these short stories. Therefore, I will be comparing and contrasting The Story of the Hour and The Machine that Won the War in types of irony, foreshadowing, and themes used for the short stories. In addition, I will first be differentiating and comparing the irony in both of the short stories. There are two examples of situational irony in Kate Chopin s Story of the Hour . The first is how instead of grieving her husband s death Louise feels like a weight has been lifted from her and she can finally live a life where she makes her own choices. As stated in the text, When she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it over and over under her breath:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, in the story one of the character s named Max says, What s that to me? Let Multivac be the machine that won the war, if it pleases them (The Machine that Won the War, Isaac Asimov). This foreshadows that not all is as it appeared to be concerning the supercomputer Multivac that supposedly won the won. It is instead a man flipping a coin and using intuition who wins the

  • 32. The, And, By Ernest Holmes Ernest Holmes addresses a trepidation we may have when giving: our resources will be temporarily depleted. It is common sense that the more we give, the less we have; but there is a principle at work which defies common sense, because the appearance of loss and lack is deceptive. Once we have sown a seed our hands are empty, but the soil is full and soon we will have our hands full with the harvest of that seed. If we had held onto that seed, there would be no harvest and we would eventually be empty handed. However, giving in a principled manner does not incur a loss, but gains. Giving, as a matter of principle, is the difference between gaining more or having less. Of course, if we go through the motions of giving appearing to give, but actually throwing money away in an unprincipled manner, then we have simply wasted our time, and our treasure. Not every seed sown, grows; some fall on hard, stony ground and never take root. Not every prayer is heard and answered; some fall on deaf ears our own. Having ears, we hear not. Having eyes, we see not. And having our hands full, we give not. It is a shame, because we could give, have and enjoy more. DIMINISHED EXPECTATIONS Holmes relates the responsiveness of Life to the idea that Nature abhors a vacuum. In an infinite universe, there cannot be an empty void, a place where God is not. All space, all vessels, all containers must be filled with something. So, when something is drawn out of one place, more is drawn

Abstract One of the difficulties when objectivity looking into defining the levels of fidelity required in training simulations is that simulators are frequently seen as replacements for training that previously would have been conducted on the real equipment. The perception therefore is that the simulation should be as close as possible to the real deal in order to successfully replace it. However, the genuine advantage of using simulation in training is that where the actual equipment is designed for real operations, a training simulator can be designed to meet specific training needs without unnecessarily extending the fidelity of the simulation. A vital... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has lead to an overemphasis on technological advancement to enhance simulation based training (Francis Heybroek, 1992). In turn, this focus creates a lack of emphasis on the role of recreating authentic operational scenarios which is the baseline for training airline pilots. All this leads into another important aspect of simulation fidelity; Instructional Systems Design (ISD). ISD is definitively linked to training effectiveness and is relative to the way in which simulator based training is designed for the target audience. Recently there has been considerable research which suggests that there is not a straightforward relationship between the increased realism of high fidelity simulation and any significant enhancement in training effectiveness (National Center for Simulation, 2007). In fact, the research actually shows that increases in both efficiency and transfer of training do occur through the careful process of ISD, and in particular the design of simulation based scenarios that are responsive to the real operational needs of the target learner. These research results provide the first facet that high fidelity simulation is not necessarily required for airline pilot training. Operational Fidelity Within the commercial aviation setting, considerable criticism has been directed at the current forms of simulator based training for their singular focus on the
