Walt Disney s Theory Of Bureaucracy, And Blake And Mouton...
Introduction
Walt Disney Company is a mass media and entertainment company headquartered in Burbank,
California. The Disney brothers Walt and Roy founded Disney in 1923. Originally, Disney was
strictly an animation industry before expanding into television, film, and most notably theme
parks. Disney s theme parks have become world renowned for the experiences and memories they
give the people that visit the park. Disney s parks are also respected for their organizational
communication in terms of their employees and their interactions with visitors of the theme park.
As mentioned earlier, Disney is a company that applies organizational communication to all facets
of their operations especially to their theme parks. This is why we decided to study them so
closely for this paper. We will apply Deal and Kennedy s Strong Culturetheory, Weber s Theory of
Bureaucracy, and Blake and Mouton s Managerial Grid to what we have learned about Disney as
an organization to analyze where they fit into each of these theories and critique their
organizational practice and identify any ways they can improve as outlined by these theories.
Deal and Kennedy s Strong Cultures When defining culture, one can say that culture means: a
particular form or stage of civilization as that of a certain nation or period; development or
improvement of the mind by education or training; or the behaviors and beliefs characteristics of a
particular social, ethnic, or age group (Culture). All of

The Importance Of Body Worn Cameras
Body Worn Cameras are spreading worldwide, under the assumption that police performance,
conduct, accountability, and legitimacy, in the eyes of the public, are enhanced as a result of
using these devices. Also, suspects demeanor during police public engagements is hypothesized
to change as a consequence of the video recording of the encounter (Ariel, 2016, para.1).
Research has shown that body worn cameras by law enforcement officers dramatically reduces
both civilian complaints against officers and the use of force by officers. Since the beginning of
using the body worn cameras by law enforcement officers, behavior has improved, and de
escalation on both sides of the cameras that happen during the interactions with the public has
decreased. The body worn cameras provide members of the public, the media, and researchers with
vital information about the quality of policepublic interactions; especially the relatively small, but
critical, minority that involves officer use of force. (Kiernan, 2016) These videos will not resolve
all debates about the propriety of the officer s behaviors they portray, but the information they do
reveal can advance empirically grounded policing reform. (Kiernan, 2016, para. 6)
The advantages of wearing the body worn for both police officers and citizens are to record every
encounter with members of the public to minimize complaints and unnecessary use of force. The
video can be utilized for shreds of evidence of decisions made by police

Similarities Between Edgar Allan Poe And Stephen King
In every time period there is always a writers that dominates a certain genre. These individuals
are masters in their fields and can evoke the deepest feeling in their readers. There are many of
these writers in every generation for every genre. In the field of horror two writers should spring
to everyone s mind. Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King. Both writers have made their marks in
literature for exploring the darker sides of imagination producing writings that can leave readers
shaken from freight. Although both authors are from different time periods they have similarities
in writing that shows their skills. Not only do both writers have similarities in their life styles they

In 1947 he was born to Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. His mother single handedly took care of both
king and his brother while moving about the country following their father who was not apart of
their lives. Unlike Poe s guardian Ms.King was always supportive of her son s writing career,
and encouraged him to write as much as possible. Despite similarities in their lives both homes
were very different. Poe live in a financially stable house but with a parent who was emotionally
detached, and did not support his desire for writing. King lived in a home that was financially
unstable, but received support from his mother. His desire to write, and his mother s support led
him to accomplish many great things. King s writing started from a very early age. a He
submitted hundreds of stories to different publications in the genres of horror. King received his
college education at the University of Maine in Orono. He lacked the finances to pay for his
education so he worked a fulltime job to order to pay his tuition. By the time he reached college
he had several writings published and was becoming very serious about it. He remained focused
in college and blossomed as a writer in the experience. Perhaps this is where the core difference
exists between Poe and King ;one lacked a strong emotional foundation in his youth and went on to
make disastrous choices, consequently keeping him out of reach of success within his lifetime.

Income Inequality In The Workplace
Throughout the history of the world, women have been discriminated against in all forms,
especially in the workplace; this includes unequal pay and much more. Even though America is
advancing and changing to provide equality to every individual, there are still many countries in
which women are still looked down upon simply because of their gender. Discrimination against
women in the workplace is not only taking place in America but also many parts of the world.
Women who are well educated and equally trained in their field are paid less than men who are
sometimes not even educated enough or well trained for the same job. There are many studies
which show the difference between the pay gap between men and women; these studies are
sometimes done to show the systemic discrimination that women face in the workforce. One of the
main issue with income inequalitybetween men and women are simply because women are seen as
the weaker sex when it comes to working; because of this, womanearns less money at their jobs
than men. The purpose of this research is to provide insight into the income inequality between
women and men. This research will use many scholarly works to prove my hypothesis on the
matter. In a way women being paid less than men depend on their gender and any change in gender
directly affect the way they are being paid or their income.
In Miller article, she explains the most important reason why there is such a big income gap
between working women and men. One of

Differences Between Mass And Projected Area And Mass Of...
The last nine experiments listed in Table 1 have reported the projected area and mass of the
firebrands. Fig. 3 depicts the PDF and contour plots for OWB7. Figs. 3a and b, represent the
PDF for the firebrands at 4 meter and 18 meters from the fire front respectively. Considering Fig.
3c, we can realize that the correlation between mass and projected area of firebrand is stronger
than projected area and the traveling distance of the brands. This fact is more obvious at closer
distances. Moreover, the analysis of results of this experiment shows that larger brands can fly
further away from the fire which sometimes is not in agreement with other experiments. The
available data at 4 meter and 18 meter from the fire has been compared in Fig. 3d. We can observe
that heavier brands could travel further with the wind. In addition, it is understandable that the mean
and standard deviation values for mass and area of the firebrands at further distances are larger
which means that we have more variety of sizes there.
The PDF and contour plots for IWB1 are plotted in Fig. 4 and Fig.4a shows the PDF for both dry
and wet trays. Since we did not have access to individual brand information, using the presented
table in their paper, Table 7 here, we assume the averagevalue of area for each category and for S
4, we assumed the brand area is 5 cm2. The number of the brands in the wet tray is greater than
that of the dry tray since many brands have blown away from the dry tray and burned out

Toyota Essay
(b) Company background
Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in
Toyota, Aichi, Japan. Toyota is known as the second largest automotive manufacturer in world,
behind German Volkswagen Group in 2016. Toyota adopted JIT in the Toyota Production System
(TPS) as a means of eliminating the wastes in all aspects of production.
(c) Implementation of JIT by the company
In 1950, Toyota Motor Corporation had a difficulty to predict the size of their warehouse in order
to store their finish products and parts. They have to use large warehouse to store the vehicles
before shipping them to customers. It resulted in expensive inventory cost and waste associated
with keeping dead stock. This becomes the main reason for Toyota to implement JIT and Toyota
Production System (TPS) in their business operation.
The Toyota Production System (TPS) was established based on the philosophy of JIT, in which each
process produces only what is required by the next process in a continuous flow. Toyota aims to
produce high quality products that fulfill the needs of every customer through the complete

Negative Effects Of The Cuban Embargo
Throughout history sovereignty has been known to be at the mercy of a nation s ruler, king, or
dictator. As we have come to recognize, especially in the United States, sovereignty should
unconditionally belong to the people to freely determine their own destiny. For 58 years Cuba s
sovereignty has been firm, yet respected. A diverse nation and people, yet divided, where equal
rights and responsibilities are at odds due to their political views. (Peterson, 1991) A nation where
the government grants its people limited rights rather than the people granting their government
limited powers. For 55 years, it has been a nation that is granted limited opportunities due to an
imposed embargo; therefore, limiting opportunities to its people. (Leogrande, 2015)... Show more

Economic rights are an integral component of human rights and the Cuban embargo in many ways
violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It bears mentioning that even economic
sanctions imposed multilaterally for security reasons must comply with legal standards that limit
the degree to which they may harm the human rights of innocent people. (Coli, 2007, p. 267)
Human rights are essential to humanity and the role to guarantee these rights is a fundamental role
of Cuba. However, because the embargo remains in place for 55 years for the sake of promoting
human rights, Coli (2007) argues the United States has a special legal and moral obligation (Coli,
2007, p. 199) to ensure the human rights of Cubans on the island are protected and the embargo

Emotion Related Cultural Value With Regulation Strategies...
1. One of the unique features of human is the ability to regulate and adjust emotions on particular
situational demands. What happen when we get angry but cannot express it? Or when we feel
upset but have to try to be fine? Under some circumstances like these examples, we regulate our
emotions. Emotion regulation(ER) refers to the capacity to control and manage one s emotional
reaction in order to achieve a goal directed outcome. We know coping, reappraisal, or suppression
as some typical tactics of managing emotions, but how these types of regulation strategies differ
among individuals, and how cultural values can be related to the preference of use of different
strategies? This study will provide a general idea beyond the basic understanding of ER by
comparing individual difference on emotionrelated cultural valuewith regulation strategies.
This study focuses on emotion related values based on the Hofstede model of six dimensions of
national cultures (power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism/collectivism, masculinity
/femininity, long/short term orientation, and indulgence/restraint), by only focusing on long/short
term orientation and uncertainty avoidance as emotion related cultural values. Short/long term
orientation refers to the perspective of whether or not looking at the future. Short term orientated
people tend to emphasize on the current time and believe important events in life occur in the past
or now. They also tend to attribute both success and

Because melanoma is a serious health concern in New Zealand, research has been done exploring
the malignancy. One specific study looked at the occurrence of melanoma throughout New
Zealand. They found that the highest rates generally occurred on the North Island, while there
tended to be lower rates on the South Island. Although the rates of melanoma didn t correspond
precisely with the hours of sunlight that an area has, there was some relation between these two.
Southland, the southernmost region of New Zealand, has the least sunshine and was found to have
the lowest rate of melanoma. The study also found that the rate of melanoma in men was
significantly higher than that in women, and that the rate of melanoma increased with age.1
In response to the health issues associated with exposure to the sun, New Zealand has developed
programs to educate people on the risks of solar radiation and the precautions that can be taken.
One such program is called SunSmart, and its goal is to promote sun safety behaviors in New
Zealand. Some statistics are posted on their website regarding the effects of skin cancer in the
country. These include the fact that every year in New Zealand, about 50,000 new cases of skin
cancer are reported, close to 260 people die from the disease, and it costs the New Zealand health
system around 33 million dollars.3 Though New Zealand may be highly susceptible to sun related

Pessimism In Leyii Leopardi
Giacomo Leopardi (1798 1837) was born in Recanati a small lost town in the Marches which was
part of the Papal States back in time , Italy.
His father guided him to become a classical scholar, in order to push him in that wayn he provided
him Leopardi with the best education that could exist; including personal tutors and the
accessibility of his father s considerable library that led him to master Greek, classic Latin, Hebrew,
and many modern European languages.
Leopardi s poetry is quite difficult to taste due to the fact that he used to practice archaic. Despite
its severe form, the prose is more affordable even if it is often overly concise or oratory. However,

Nature is simply powerless to fulfill the Icelander s demands concerning the meaning of human
misery at the Nature hands, except using brutal realism:
You forget that the life of the world is a perpetual cycle of production and destruction, so
combined that one works for the good of the other. By their joint operation the universe is
preserved. If either ceased, the world would dissolve.
Since man is incapable to accept worthlessness, he will keep asking questions. At the end of the
story, the Icelander is disturbed by a starving lion that ate him. And that is how the Nature answers
all the Icelander s questions: the death of the individual . Meaning, this tale symbolizes the failure

Calaveras Vineyards Case
Dear Dr. Lynna Martinez,
After reviewing your projections of Calaveras Vineyards, I used the adjusted present value method
to come up with the value of the company. With this method, I assume that the whole firm is
financed only through equity. Therefore, when calculating the free cash flow, debt was not taken
into account. Despite that, the net present value of interest shields is added back to compensate the
debt in the capital structure. With this method, the company is valued at $9.62 million.
In order to assess Calaveras value, I calculated the free cash flow from 1994 to 1998. The free cash
flow from each year derived from adding Earnings before Interest and Taxes,... Show more content

You were hired back then to develop and implement a strategy to lift the company out of the bulk
wine category and into the premium brand segment of the market. In addition to that, your resume
is stronger than the others. Your education is better than the others and you had a lot of experience
in directing the making of wine. Not only that you trained in family owned winery and distillery,
but you also gained a lot of experience in champagne and white wine technology at the Moet et
Chandon installation in Epernay when you took trips to Europe.
Please note that if you decide to buy the company, you might become more conservative.
Currently, you are the vice president/general manager and winemaker of Calaveras. If you buy
the company as proposed, you will own 85% of the company. This means that you will relate to
the company in two ways; as a manager, and also an owner. Therefore, I am assuming that you
will become more conservative because it s always better to expect less, so you wouldn t forecast
too positively. A reduction in forecasted real growth rate from 2% to 1 1.5% is what I am
expecting you might do.
Thank you. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner
Randall Jarrell put much thought into his poem, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner , but more
specifically into the tone. Tone is the attitude an author has towards his or her subject and it has
the power to be bland, or have a true impact on the literary work being presented. Jarrell
effectively used imagery and diction to create the attitude he wanted his readers to conclude in
their own way. First, Jarrell uses imagery abundantly throughout his lyrical poem. The character
used in the poem is compared to what we would believe to be an animal, with fur of some kind.
The comparison to an animal hunched over with frozen fur gives us, as readers, a visualization of
how small the Ball TurretGunner is and allows us to understand that the men in these positions are
nervous and in high altitudes, thus more than likely frozen with sweat. Additionally, Jarrell
specifically names six miles above the earth which engages readers in knowing that this is not a
little mission, as they are miles above earth s surface. Also, the gory ending of washing the flesh
out of the turret with a hose enables readers to visualize how this situation typically pans out.
Simply due to the goriness of the situation, readers are likely to remember this than if the process
were to be sugar coated and made to be more pleasant. Imagery paints this five line poem into a
story board and gives the setting a whole new meaning. Secondly, diction is a key aspect in this
poem and is highly important due to its

Essay On Police Misconduct
The Battle of Police Misconduct
The war on crime fought on the streets is far too often waged against innocent individuals unaware
of, or intimidated into surrendering their constitutional rights. Police officers often make bad
judgment calls on a possible offender and resort to using more force than needed. With the two
parties involved in the situation, misunderstandings of communication play s a major role in why
police misconduct is becoming more and more of an issue. As minority citizens are victims of
police brutality on a daily basis, it does not stop there. The juveniles and lower class citizens are
also victims of excessive force. Even we could be a victim. It is important to pay as much attention

Police brutality, also known as police use of excessive force, is different from reasonable force.
Furthermore, some individuals think that police brutality should be used to control the crimes and
illegal acts, but I am totally against police brutality. It violates the trust between the public,
MONTOYA 2 police officers, and the law. Police officers have more powers than the average
citizen; they have the power to arrest, seize property, and use deadly force. Many officers have
abused these powers, and when they do, you would think they would be fired and prosecuted, right?
Wrong.
In most of these cases, officers have only been suspended or given probation, this seems like a
minor punishment for such an unjustifiable crime. Police officers have gotten above the law and are
now able to abuse their powers as they wish.

Narrative Elements Of Horror
Almost every genre of film to date has been designed and developed to make an audience feel
satisfied or sexed up and in love or delighted or inspired or rushed with adrenaline. Horror, on the
other hand, was the first genre that preyed on the audience s deepest fears and utilized them to
provide cinema with nightmare flair. And everybody loved it.
The idea of this essay is to address the nightmarish absurdity that horror is so well known for. I will
consider the development of the genre, as well as explore the stylistic, thematic and narrative
elements of the genre; including discourse on the visuals, the symbolisms and the subject matter in
addition to any impact the genre had on the audience, and address what role said impact had in

The term body horror was first coined in 1986 in an issue of the film magazine Screen. The films of
this subgenre concentrate on the human body and the horror of estrangement from within. Defined,
body horror is:
Such destruction or generation of the human body can be as a result of anything from alien life
forces to genetic mutations, viruses, diseases etc. Much of this subgenre was to do with society s
body anxiety and body consciousness and also explores identity and humanity. (Class notes: Body
Horror) Though these films address such valid points, they also strive to create a swelling unease
in the viewer and an awkward discomfort the viewer s body. The intent is to provoke sickness,
revulsion, and abhorrence in the audience.
Eraserhead, without a doubt, succeeds in achieving all of the above. This film is such a significant,
sweeping example of the far reaching horror genre. Expressionism s influence on this genre is so
captivatingly portrayed in the film, to the extent that many of the shots, throughout the entire film,
look just like works of German Expressionist art.

The reason mint gum lasts longer is that mint is a very strong oil with a strong distinct flavor. The
flavor will simply last longer as it s a stronger taste. Although you may have thought that Juicy Fruit

Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan African holiday that celebrates family, community and

first harvest celebrations of Africa, from which this holiday takes its name. Kwanzaa is derived
from the phrase, matunda ya kwanza, which means first fruits in Swahili, a Pan African tongue that

history dating back to Ancient Egypt and Nubia, with references, both ancient and modern,

The Sniper In Three Day Road
There are many ways of thinking of military snipers. They can be compared to predators in the
wild, a skillful killing machine that kills out of necessity and has the respect of their companions.
Snipers can also be thought of as prey. They are given a challenging task that requires skill to
elude the enemy and often preys upon their mental toughness. In Boyden s book Three Day Road
the author uses many passages to compare the role of a sniperto the role of both predator and prey
in the wilderness. These comparisons help the reader relate to the experiences of two indigenous
boyhood friends, Elijah and Xavier as snipers in World War 1. Instead of shooting caribou back
home in Canada as boys, they are now shooting German soldiers in the trenches... Show more

He is not so emotionally capable of taking a human life. He uses his experiences as a hunter to
cope with taking his first life as a sniper. He tells Elijah its easier for me to picture soldiers with
antlers on their heads (115). He uses his experiences killing caribou to cope with the stress of
killing enemy soldiers. As a sniper you must be focused on your target and the task at hand.
There is no time for second thoughts or to let your mind wonder. Xavier is not as focused as
Elijah. When Elijah fires a shot across to the Hun sniper, Xavier jumped the concussion makes
me jump a little, even though I am ready for it (118). This shows Xavier is more mentally on
edge. It shows his lack of confidence in his skills. This is reflected in his thoughts after they both
fire at the German sniper at the end of the chapter. Elijah s shot, and Xavier s bullet trailing a
ways behind, the Hun sniper never fired back. Xavier knew Elijah killed him. I can tell he is still
worried about himself being and accepting his role as a sniper. I wonder about myself, though (118).
As a sniper, you can either feel you are the predator or the prey. One mistake and you can give
away your position and you would not make it home. In the book Three Day Road by Joseph
Boyden, Xavier and Elijah find themselves as snipers in WW1. Xavier struggles emotionally with
his role as a killer. This stress preys on his emotions and makes

The mastery learning model aligns well with the behavioral learning theory. Behaviorism
emphasizes students to exhibit their learning through action, which can be objectively observed. In

Analysis of Goodwill Impairments and
Their Effects on Financial Statements
The impairment only accounting model for goodwill was initially brought to the table in 2004, to
replace the previous amortization based model. Over the years, research supported the idea that
impairment charges improved the fundamental economic attributes of goodwill than systematic
amortization charges. Research also revealed that such annual changes had minor information value
to users. According to KPMG (2014), this was the key reason why the US Financial Accounting
Standards Board (FASB) replaced straight line amortization of goodwill with this model that was
based exclusively on impairment testing (p. 4). The FASB argued that this approach provides...

After the value is determined, if the goodwill s fair value is less than the carrying value, the
goodwill is considered impaired and must be charged off. Essentially, the charge off reduces the
value of goodwill to market value, reflecting a mark to market charge.
Essentially, goodwill is the value of an asset that is considered intangible but has a quantifiable
prudent value in a business (Boundless, 2014). An example of goodwill could be the reputation a
firm has with its client. It is important to remember that although goodwill is technically an
intangible asset, it typically is listed separately on a business balance sheet.
Goodwill impairments under SFAS 142, has been the subject of many controversies. Opponents
worry that specific aspects of the standard are complicated and require judgment (Boundless,
2014). Therefore, a goodwill impairment charge has the ability to increase the uncertainty of the
analysts forecasting. Goodwill is recorded at the time of a business combination by an acquiring
entity, and is defined as the excess of the consideration transferred plus te fair value of any non
controlling interest in the acquire at the acquisition date over the fair values of the identifiable net
assets acquired (FASB, 2007). Prior to the SFAS 141 and SFAS 142, APB Opinion No.17 regulated

Still Culture In Still Life
Still life, a distinct genre and professional specialization, developed as a separate category in the
late sixteenth century. It gave the artists more freedom in the arrangement of elements within a
composition than other types of genres such as landscape or portraiture. A style of ostentatious still
life painting emerged in the Netherlandsand prominent artists, like Willem Claesz Heda,
emphasized the abundance by depicting a diversity of objects, fruits, flowers and dead game, often
together with animals. This still lifereminded viewers of the prosperity of the Republic; it spoke
about the bounty of God s creation and the nature of art and life. At first sight, Heda s painting,

Today, food is seen as a necessary part of life, with no need of the luxury, although the opulent
cuisines are famous too. Food in Netherlands shapes and is constantly shaped by the Dutch society.
The country s cuisine has been established by its cultivation (fishing, farming, domesticating
animals) and the history of Netherlands. In the prosperous Dutch Golden Age, when the urban
merchant class dominated the affluent Dutch society, the haute cuisine was largely limited to the
aristocracy and wealthy citizens, consisting of a rich variety of fruits, cheeses, meat, seafood,
wine and nuts. The Dutch empire enabled spices, sugar and exotic fruits as well as tea and coffee
to be imported to the country. Exotic ingredients such as dates, rice, cinnamon, ginger and saffron
were gradually introduced. Thus, today, Netherlands is home to different cultures and external
influences, having a variety of foods. Chinese Indonesian, Surinamese, French and Italian food are
a part of the Dutch diet. From piping hot street snacks to heart warming stews, pea soups to french
fries with mayonnaise, meat croquets to raw herrings, freshly baked breads to delicious cheeses
and from Belgium waffles to pies filled with spiced apples, the Dutch cuisine is celebrated with

Theme Of Oedipus Complex By Paul Morel
Since the day of publication, it has been a tendency to approach Sons and Lovers
(1913)primarily as the story of a victim of Oedipus Complex . The hero, Paul Morel, is very
often looked upon, as the title suggests, merely as a son; not as a normal human being. Whatever
problems crop up in the life of Paul Morel has been addressed as the reason of his mother fixation
. Whenever someone strives to examine the character or personae of Paul Morel, the Oedipus
complex looms large and everything else, if there is any, fades away. Because of this one
dimensional attitude, it is scarcely kept in mind that Paul Morel, besides his mother fixation , does
posses another identity no less important than his identity of a son; the identity that could... Show

Even the world ahead is quite unknown, devoid of the warmth of his familiar women folks.
However, the present unknown opens up a new possibility for Paul and urges anew the creative
artist in his being. In fact, before losing all of his beloveds, Paul successfully draws out the
necessary vitality from them:
From his mother he drew the life warmth, the strength to produce; Miriam urged this warmth into
intensity like a white light.28
About Clara, it could be said in the words of Mark Spilka : she adds to this life warmth and
creative vision the gift of manhood, the baptism of fire in passion. 29 With the help of this vitality,
Paul being at verge of extinction finally decides: no, he would not give in, 30 rather will continue

Relationship Between Fathers and Sons Essay
Both poems My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke and Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden
are poems in which the speaker (a son in both cases) attempts to explain his complex relationship
with his father. It seems that the two poets are reflecting back in their early lives as young boys
and showing different appreciation toward their father. In my interpretation My Papa s Waltz is
about a boyand that is excited that his father got home to play with him. Only problem is the
speakers father is drunk and it hard to enjoy himself but he held on because the unconditional love
he has for him, as the line says The Whiskey on your breath / could make a boy dizzy; / But I hung
like death: (1 2 3). However, Those Winter Sundays is more... Show more content on

Also is a sign of being responsible and not indolent.
The impression that I get from My Papa s Waltz is that the boy s father is an alcoholic and
irresponsible. I say this because as the father and the boy were playing around in the kitchen The
unconscious father could of drop a hot pan that the mother could have been cooking on and
cause serious damage. That to me shows that the father don t really think about the possibilities.
On the contrary Those Winter Sundays Sundays too my father got up early (1) shows that the
father is a hard workingman, that everyday of the week he is up early with cracked hands that
ached / from labor in the weekday weather made (3 4). The speaker s father is a man that did hard
labor to keep heat in the house and also made sure his son was looking sharp for example, polished
my good shoes as well (12). Overall he was very responsible and loving even though the speaker
didn t think so at the time seeing that he didn t show appreciation and no one ever thanked him (5).
When it comes to the mood the speakers portray different attitudes towards their fathers. In My
Papa s Waltz the speakers mood is positive while the poet reflect back negatively and in Those
Winter Sundays the speaker attitude is like whatever and negative while the poet also reflect back
an realizes that his father was a

Racism- An Aid to American Society
Racism An Aid to American Society?
Racism is actions, practices or beliefs, or social or political systems that consider different races to
be ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable
traits, abilities, or qualities. (Newman, 2012) Racism has promulgated after the slavery in America,
and these practices are still evident in our generations today. Oftentimes, when the word racism is
heard by many, negative characteristics on these actions will be dominant. Many perceive racism
as disrespect to one s rich culture and heritage, thus causing a lot of hatred. Despite my strong
objection on the act of racism, I believe that racism played a major role in the development and

Racism is what justified America s thirst for expansion through the Manifest Destiny which gave
an ideological dimension to its actions. It is important to see, at this point, that America is a
country which gives a huge importance to its national beliefs which include liberalism, self
determinism and democracy. Tierney (2011) says that it is ingrained so much so that there is a
liberal hegemony in the way Americans think, making its existence natural to America and its
inhabitants. The liberty of Americans justifies the Manifest Destiny s expansionist ideas by its
dimension of free development for Americans. Race, here, became one of the determinants of who
were to pay the price of that development and who were to profit. While countries such as Russia
and China imposed their ideologies on their countries which already had their nationalist ideologies,
America was born under its own, making the connection between its core beliefs and Manifest
Destiny an effective engine to justify the latter. When the original version of the Manifest Destiny
was accomplished in 1890, free development was found to be possible through two more activities,
nation building in the Americas and Imperialism ( Manifest Destiny , n.d.).
Nation building took form in slavery in tobacco farms, developing from an economic venture to a
cultural endeavor (p.109, Fields, 1990). Slavery also led to the empowerment of the other citizens,
with both forming

Why Bollenbach Opened His Bidding at $55 per Share
1. Why might Bollenbach have opened his bidding for ITT at $55 per share? What was his
likely strategy? The $55 value is on the lower range of the analyst eztimates, with a best guess
estimate of $67.94. Since the value of the stock had been below $45 for 4 months, the offer of
55 dollars represented a 29% premium to investors. Bollenbach knew that management would be
resistant of any attempt to be acquired, regardless of price, because of failed previous attempts to

ITT management to achieve that level, or higher and the premium is enough to demonstrate to

sixth mass extinction is creeping up on humanity, and we can prevent it but we are turning a blind

The sixth mass extinction is was caused by humans in various ways such as poaching. Poaching is

things such as old western medicine, food, and there pelts are very rare on the market thus making

Singapore, being a well known cosmopolitan city, has many of its cultural roots coming from all
over the world. Ever since the first record of Singapore s population structure, the Chinese have

history, these Chinese migrants have brought different cultural and religious norms, food

In those days, radios were considered very expensive and a relatively underdeveloped
technology. Thus with the introduction of a cable broadcasting service, broadcasts were now
made available to households, even at areas where radio signals had weak reception. Moreover,
SWMDA like many other associations had jumped on the bandwagon and decided to perform
their songs on Redifussion Singapore. This along with their unparalleled sound quality had
decreased the need to travel out of homes to enjoy Cantonese Opera performances. People were
satisfied with just listening to the songs being performed. The next turning point was the
introduction of television service in 1963 and the implementation of the Speak Mandarin
Campaign (SMC) by the Singapore government in 1979. Not only did then Prime Minister Lee
Kuan Yew stop giving his speeches in Hokkien, all non mandarin Chinese radio and television
programs came to a halt. This outward focus on eliminating dialect as a language of
communication through broadcasting and other channels such as education resulted in lesser
appreciation for entertainment performed fully in dialect; this included Cantonese Opera. The
vacuum was quickly filled by Hong Kong and Taiwanese opera movies, as well as a series of
television operas produced in Singapore, Following the new trend, all these operas provided
subtitles in Chinese characters (Chua, 2005). As the

The Theme Of Sublime Nature In Frankenstein By Mary Shelley
In the novella Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses geography to further the plot, reveal the true
intentions of characters and convey the novella s theme of sublime nature. The theme of sublime
nature is the idea that nature is comprised of a mixture of terror and beauty. One example of
sublime nature supported by geography is the monster, which is truly a terror in appearance and
spirit being born in Ingolstadt. Shelly contrasts this terror of Ingolstadt to the beauty of Geneva,
Frankensteins birthplace. Once the fruit of Frankenstein s labor comes to fruition and the horrific
monster is born, even Frankenstein himself is unable to endure the aspect of the being and attempts
to cast it away and forget it (Shelley 101). The apparent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These events are meant to show that terror in the form of the monster has survived in the beauty
of nature, setting out on a journey to achieve spiritual peace. However, the monster, who has
traveled Europe in search of Geneva, in fact seeks and is surrounded by the peace it can never
have, as the terror which resides inside of the monster s soul will not allow it. One such case occurs
when spring begins and the monster is felt [the] emotions of gentleness and pleasure in the sunshine
and the balminess of the air but then realized that he was still lonely and quickly became bitter
(Shelley 246). The vengeance which the monster wishes upon Frankenstein is a manifestation of an
eternal fury that the monster has as a result of the loneliness that Frankenstein has imposed upon
him.
The theme of sublime nature is perpetuated by Shelley s incorporation of violence in locations with
beautiful lake and mountain views. As Frankenstein takes a tour of a mountain and glacier he sees
sublime nature in the form of the pallid lightning that played above Mont Blanc, showing that
terrors such as lightning already exist within the domain of the beautiful mountainside (Shelley
167). Shelley uses this ominous mood to foreshadow Frankenstein s future encounter with another
herald of terror, the monster. Not long after Frankenstein sees an object in the distance and
suddenly, A flash of lightning illuminated the object, the

  • 2. Walt Disney s Theory Of Bureaucracy, And Blake And Mouton... Introduction Walt Disney Company is a mass media and entertainment company headquartered in Burbank, California. The Disney brothers Walt and Roy founded Disney in 1923. Originally, Disney was strictly an animation industry before expanding into television, film, and most notably theme parks. Disney s theme parks have become world renowned for the experiences and memories they give the people that visit the park. Disney s parks are also respected for their organizational communication in terms of their employees and their interactions with visitors of the theme park. As mentioned earlier, Disney is a company that applies organizational communication to all facets of their operations especially to their theme parks. This is why we decided to study them so closely for this paper. We will apply Deal and Kennedy s Strong Culturetheory, Weber s Theory of Bureaucracy, and Blake and Mouton s Managerial Grid to what we have learned about Disney as an organization to analyze where they fit into each of these theories and critique their organizational practice and identify any ways they can improve as outlined by these theories. Deal and Kennedy s Strong Cultures When defining culture, one can say that culture means: a particular form or stage of civilization as that of a certain nation or period; development or improvement of the mind by education or training; or the behaviors and beliefs characteristics of a particular social, ethnic, or age group (Culture). • 4. The Importance Of Body Worn Cameras Body Worn Cameras are spreading worldwide, under the assumption that police performance, conduct, accountability, and legitimacy, in the eyes of the public, are enhanced as a result of using these devices. Also, suspects demeanor during police public engagements is hypothesized to change as a consequence of the video recording of the encounter (Ariel, 2016, para.1). Research has shown that body worn cameras by law enforcement officers dramatically reduces both civilian complaints against officers and the use of force by officers. Since the beginning of using the body worn cameras by law enforcement officers, behavior has improved, and de escalation on both sides of the cameras that happen during the interactions with the public has decreased. The body worn cameras provide members of the public, the media, and researchers with vital information about the quality of policepublic interactions; especially the relatively small, but critical, minority that involves officer use of force. (Kiernan, 2016) These videos will not resolve all debates about the propriety of the officer s behaviors they portray, but the information they do reveal can advance empirically grounded policing reform. (Kiernan, 2016, para. 6) The advantages of wearing the body worn for both police officers and citizens are to record every encounter with members of the public to minimize complaints and unnecessary use of force. The video can be utilized for shreds of evidence of decisions made by police ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1947 he was born to Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. His mother single handedly took care of both king and his brother while moving about the country following their father who was not apart of their lives. Unlike Poe s guardian Ms.King was always supportive of her son s writing career, and encouraged him to write as much as possible. Despite similarities in their lives both homes were very different. Poe live in a financially stable house but with a parent who was emotionally detached, and did not support his desire for writing. King lived in a home that was financially unstable, but received support from his mother. His desire to write, and his mother s support led him to accomplish many great things. King s writing started from a very early age. a He submitted hundreds of stories to different publications in the genres of horror. King received his college education at the University of Maine in Orono. He lacked the finances to pay for his education so he worked a fulltime job to order to pay his tuition. By the time he reached college he had several writings published and was becoming very serious about it. He remained focused in college and blossomed as a writer in the experience. Perhaps this is where the core difference exists between Poe and King ;one lacked a strong emotional foundation in his youth and went on to make disastrous choices, consequently keeping him out of reach of success within his lifetime. ... • 7. Income Inequality In The Workplace Throughout the history of the world, women have been discriminated against in all forms, especially in the workplace; this includes unequal pay and much more. Even though America is advancing and changing to provide equality to every individual, there are still many countries in which women are still looked down upon simply because of their gender. Discrimination against women in the workplace is not only taking place in America but also many parts of the world. Women who are well educated and equally trained in their field are paid less than men who are sometimes not even educated enough or well trained for the same job. There are many studies which show the difference between the pay gap between men and women; these studies are sometimes done to show the systemic discrimination that women face in the workforce. One of the main issue with income inequalitybetween men and women are simply because women are seen as the weaker sex when it comes to working; because of this, womanearns less money at their jobs than men. The purpose of this research is to provide insight into the income inequality between women and men. This research will use many scholarly works to prove my hypothesis on the matter. In a way women being paid less than men depend on their gender and any change in gender directly affect the way they are being paid or their income. • 8. Differences Between Mass And Projected Area And Mass Of... The last nine experiments listed in Table 1 have reported the projected area and mass of the firebrands. Fig. 3 depicts the PDF and contour plots for OWB7. Figs. 3a and b, represent the PDF for the firebrands at 4 meter and 18 meters from the fire front respectively. Considering Fig. 3c, we can realize that the correlation between mass and projected area of firebrand is stronger than projected area and the traveling distance of the brands. This fact is more obvious at closer distances. Moreover, the analysis of results of this experiment shows that larger brands can fly further away from the fire which sometimes is not in agreement with other experiments. The available data at 4 meter and 18 meter from the fire has been compared in Fig. 3d. We can observe that heavier brands could travel further with the wind. In addition, it is understandable that the mean and standard deviation values for mass and area of the firebrands at further distances are larger which means that we have more variety of sizes there. The PDF and contour plots for IWB1 are plotted in Fig. 4 and Fig.4a shows the PDF for both dry and wet trays. Since we did not have access to individual brand information, using the presented table in their paper, Table 7 here, we assume the averagevalue of area for each category and for S 4, we assumed the brand area is 5 cm2. The number of the brands in the wet tray is greater than that of the dry tray since many brands have blown away from the dry tray and burned out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Toyota Essay (b) Company background Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan. Toyota is known as the second largest automotive manufacturer in world, behind German Volkswagen Group in 2016. Toyota adopted JIT in the Toyota Production System (TPS) as a means of eliminating the wastes in all aspects of production. (c) Implementation of JIT by the company In 1950, Toyota Motor Corporation had a difficulty to predict the size of their warehouse in order to store their finish products and parts. They have to use large warehouse to store the vehicles before shipping them to customers. It resulted in expensive inventory cost and waste associated with keeping dead stock. This becomes the main reason for Toyota to implement JIT and Toyota Production System (TPS) in their business operation. The Toyota Production System (TPS) was established based on the philosophy of JIT, in which each process produces only what is required by the next process in a continuous flow. • 10. Negative Effects Of The Cuban Embargo Throughout history sovereignty has been known to be at the mercy of a nation s ruler, king, or dictator. As we have come to recognize, especially in the United States, sovereignty should unconditionally belong to the people to freely determine their own destiny. For 58 years Cuba s sovereignty has been firm, yet respected. A diverse nation and people, yet divided, where equal rights and responsibilities are at odds due to their political views. (Peterson, 1991) A nation where the government grants its people limited rights rather than the people granting their government limited powers. It bears mentioning that even economic sanctions imposed multilaterally for security reasons must comply with legal standards that limit the degree to which they may harm the human rights of innocent people. (Coli, 2007, p. 267) Human rights are essential to humanity and the role to guarantee these rights is a fundamental role of Cuba. However, because the embargo remains in place for 55 years for the sake of promoting human rights, Coli (2007) argues the United States has a special legal and moral obligation (Coli, 2007, p. 199) to ensure the human rights of Cubans on the island are protected and the embargo does not cause any further ... • 11. Emotion Related Cultural Value With Regulation Strategies... 1. One of the unique features of human is the ability to regulate and adjust emotions on particular situational demands. What happen when we get angry but cannot express it? Or when we feel upset but have to try to be fine? Under some circumstances like these examples, we regulate our emotions. Emotion regulation(ER) refers to the capacity to control and manage one s emotional reaction in order to achieve a goal directed outcome. We know coping, reappraisal, or suppression as some typical tactics of managing emotions, but how these types of regulation strategies differ among individuals, and how cultural values can be related to the preference of use of different strategies? This study will provide a general idea beyond the basic understanding of ER by comparing individual difference on emotionrelated cultural valuewith regulation strategies. This study focuses on emotion related values based on the Hofstede model of six dimensions of national cultures (power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism/collectivism, masculinity /femininity, long/short term orientation, and indulgence/restraint), by only focusing on long/short term orientation and uncertainty avoidance as emotion related cultural values. Short/long term orientation refers to the perspective of whether or not looking at the future. For New Zealand, some of the specific health issues that are linked to weather and climate include melanoma skin cancer, weather sensitive rheumatism, asthma, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and stress in farmers caused by weather extremes. Several studies have been done in New Zealandinvestigating the link between particular health problems and the weather. There are limitations to such studies, including the obstacle of trying to isolate cause and effect, but it is clear that weather and health correlations do exist. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because melanoma is a serious health concern in New Zealand, research has been done exploring the malignancy. One specific study looked at the occurrence of melanoma throughout New Zealand. They found that the highest rates generally occurred on the North Island, while there tended to be lower rates on the South Island. Although the rates of melanoma didn t correspond precisely with the hours of sunlight that an area has, there was some relation between these two. Southland, the southernmost region of New Zealand, has the least sunshine and was found to have the lowest rate of melanoma. • 28. Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner Randall Jarrell put much thought into his poem, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner , but more specifically into the tone. Tone is the attitude an author has towards his or her subject and it has the power to be bland, or have a true impact on the literary work being presented. Jarrell effectively used imagery and diction to create the attitude he wanted his readers to conclude in their own way. First, Jarrell uses imagery abundantly throughout his lyrical poem. The character used in the poem is compared to what we would believe to be an animal, with fur of some kind. The comparison to an animal hunched over with frozen fur gives us, as readers, a visualization of how small the Ball TurretGunner is and allows us to understand that the men in these positions are nervous and in high altitudes, thus more than likely frozen with sweat. Additionally, Jarrell specifically names six miles above the earth which engages readers in knowing that this is not a little mission, as they are miles above earth s surface. Also, the gory ending of washing the flesh out of the turret with a hose enables readers to visualize how this situation typically pans out. Simply due to the goriness of the situation, readers are likely to remember this than if the process were to be sugar coated and made to be more pleasant. Imagery paints this five line poem into a story board and gives the setting a whole new meaning. Secondly, diction is a key aspect in this poem and is highly important due to its ... Dalassena plans out what she needs to do in order to restore the power in her hands while maintaining her composure but makes sure to adapt to the pertaining situation. Deluding the minds of the commoners to the minds of the royal blood, her practicality allows her to use cunning techniques that others may pass as subtle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While talking amongst the sovereignty in discussion with the foreign ambassadors, Anna doesn t accept the fact that the firstborn son should always get priority to the throne and refutes it with her own thoughts. It is quite evident to see that Dalassena takes in account of what is going to be the best for her empire not for what seems to be the custom that everyone supposedly follows. Keeping her composure, thinking it all through, understanding and analyzing her prior experiences, Anna Dalassena takes the initiative to make a standpoint on how it s not always customs and traditions but how it s necessary for the emperor or empress to be strong, both physically and mentally. Behaviorism emphasizes students to exhibit their learning through action, which can be objectively observed. In other words, learning is a measurable change. Teachers are to discover the best form of positive rewards or punishing consequences to shape the behavior/action, in order to elicit and increase the desired student response. Analysis of Goodwill Impairments and Their Effects on Financial Statements The impairment only accounting model for goodwill was initially brought to the table in 2004, to replace the previous amortization based model. Over the years, research supported the idea that impairment charges improved the fundamental economic attributes of goodwill than systematic amortization charges. Research also revealed that such annual changes had minor information value to users. According to KPMG (2014), this was the key reason why the US Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) replaced straight line amortization of goodwill with this model that was based exclusively on impairment testing (p. 4). The FASB argued that this approach provides... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the value is determined, if the goodwill s fair value is less than the carrying value, the goodwill is considered impaired and must be charged off. Essentially, the charge off reduces the value of goodwill to market value, reflecting a mark to market charge. Essentially, goodwill is the value of an asset that is considered intangible but has a quantifiable prudent value in a business (Boundless, 2014). An example of goodwill could be the reputation a firm has with its client. It is important to remember that although goodwill is technically an intangible asset, it typically is listed separately on a business balance sheet. Goodwill impairments under SFAS 142, has been the subject of many controversies. Opponents worry that specific aspects of the standard are complicated and require judgment (Boundless, 2014). Therefore, a goodwill impairment charge has the ability to increase the uncertainty of the analysts forecasting. Goodwill is recorded at the time of a business combination by an acquiring entity, and is defined as the excess of the consideration transferred plus te fair value of any non controlling interest in the acquire at the acquisition date over the fair values of the identifiable net assets acquired (FASB, 2007). The hero, Paul Morel, is very often looked upon, as the title suggests, merely as a son; not as a normal human being. Whatever problems crop up in the life of Paul Morel has been addressed as the reason of his mother fixation . Whenever someone strives to examine the character or personae of Paul Morel, the Oedipus complex looms large and everything else, if there is any, fades away. Racism is what justified America s thirst for expansion through the Manifest Destiny which gave an ideological dimension to its actions. It is important to see, at this point, that America is a country which gives a huge importance to its national beliefs which include liberalism, self determinism and democracy. Tierney (2011) says that it is ingrained so much so that there is a liberal hegemony in the way Americans think, making its existence natural to America and its inhabitants. The liberty of Americans justifies the Manifest Destiny s expansionist ideas by its dimension of free development for Americans. Race, here, became one of the determinants of who were to pay the price of that development and who were to profit. While countries such as Russia and China imposed their ideologies on their countries which already had their nationalist ideologies, America was born under its own, making the connection between its core beliefs and Manifest Destiny an effective engine to justify the latter. When the original version of the Manifest Destiny was accomplished in 1890, free development was found to be possible through two more activities, nation building in the Americas and Imperialism ( Manifest Destiny , n.d.). Nation building took form in slavery in tobacco farms, developing from an economic venture to a cultural endeavor (p.109, Fields, 1990). The Theme Of Sublime Nature In Frankenstein By Mary Shelley In the novella Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses geography to further the plot, reveal the true intentions of characters and convey the novella s theme of sublime nature. The theme of sublime nature is the idea that nature is comprised of a mixture of terror and beauty. One example of sublime nature supported by geography is the monster, which is truly a terror in appearance and spirit being born in Ingolstadt. Shelly contrasts this terror of Ingolstadt to the beauty of Geneva, Frankensteins birthplace. Once the fruit of Frankenstein s labor comes to fruition and the horrific monster is born, even Frankenstein himself is unable to endure the aspect of the being and attempts to cast it away and forget it (Shelley 101). These events are meant to show that terror in the form of the monster has survived in the beauty of nature, setting out on a journey to achieve spiritual peace. However, the monster, who has traveled Europe in search of Geneva, in fact seeks and is surrounded by the peace it can never have, as the terror which resides inside of the monster s soul will not allow it. One such case occurs when spring begins and the monster is felt [the] emotions of gentleness and pleasure in the sunshine and the balminess of the air but then realized that he was still lonely and quickly became bitter (Shelley 246). The vengeance which the monster wishes upon Frankenstein is a manifestation of an eternal fury that the monster has as a result of the loneliness that Frankenstein has imposed upon him. The theme of sublime nature is perpetuated by Shelley s incorporation of violence in locations with beautiful lake and mountain views. As Frankenstein takes a tour of a mountain and glacier he sees sublime nature in the form of the pallid lightning that played above Mont Blanc, showing that terrors such as lightning already exist within the domain of the beautiful mountainside (Shelley 167).
