The circulatory system transports blood throughout the body via the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems. Blood is pumped from the heart through arteries and returns to the heart through veins, circulating oxygen and nutrients to tissues and removing waste. The heart has four chambers that work as two pumps to circulate deoxygenated blood to the lungs and oxygenated blood to the rest of the body through continuous cycles. Valves ensure blood flows only in one direction through the heart and vessels.
