Local governments in Nepal are required to establish child welfare funds to provide support and emergency assistance to children in need. These funds are managed according to guidelines from the central Child Welfare Committee and district Child Welfare Committees under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare. The funds can be used to implement locally approved child-friendly development plans, provide relief and rehabilitation for children in emergency situations, monitor programs run by the committees, and perform other duties as determined by the committees for the benefit of children. Priority is given to supporting vulnerable children who are orphaned, disabled, affected by natural disasters, living with HIV/AIDS, or without access to education or healthcare.
