The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Entrepreneur Be my own boss and own my own business is the career I am seeking and I am starting
off with getting a degree in Business Administration. Business administration programs teach students
foundational knowledge of business and will give me the jump start I need to be a successful
entrepreneur. (AACSB Accreditation Student Resources, February 22, 2012 par2). My interest in the
world is to help others and to show everyone what excellent customer service is all about. Excellent
customer service is very important in a successful business and everyone deserves it, regardless if
there angry or upset or the worst customer you ever had. If you can change a person s attitude by
helping them anyway you can that s what customer service is all about. Our attitude towards others
determines their attitude towards us. Earl Nightingale, Author and Motivational Speaker. Excellent
customer service is more than what you say or do for your customers. It also means giving customers
a chance to make their feelings known. (SMALL BUSINESS ENCYCLOPEDIA Customer Service,

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1. ENGINEERING MATERIALS Materials are an important aspect
of engineering design and analysis. The importance of engineering materials can be noted from the
fact that historical ages have been named after materials. Materials Science forms the basic foundation
for engineers in product development because the structures, components, and devices that design are
limited by the properties of the materials. In the customer driven competitive business environment,
the product quality is of paramount importance [1]. The product or end application quality has been
found to be influenced by the engineering design, type of materials selected and the processing
technology employed. Therefore, the importance of engineering materials and their process techniques
are art of today s engineering world. There are wide categories of materials available which have
shown their potential in various engineering applications ranging from aerospace to household. The
materials are usually selected by considering their properties, specific application areas, advantages
and limitations. The challenge for designers is to select an optimal material suitable for the specific
design requirements. The complex design need in modern science generally lead to development of

7. Young Misleading Love in Romeo and Juliet
Young love is a very deep immature feeling, which tends to misguide those affected by it, and the
affected ones fall too deeply in love, which leads to a tendency of self destruction. The concept of the
young misguiding love is emphasized in the drama, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare.
Romeo and Juliet are young when they first see each other and make the mistake of loving each other
without knowing their family names. Their deep love without any understanding of the concept of
love leads to the young lovers committing suicide, which is a rash decision. They do not embrace their
situation, and think about other solutions other than suicide. Romeo and Juliet act on impulse and
make rash decisions without thinking about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He jumps right in, and tells Balthasar to get the horses ready at once. Romeo and Juliet s lack of
maturity also causes them to love one another without a limit. They are too immature to realize that
the feeling of love should not conquer common sense and reasoning. They love each other too such an
extreme, that they are inseparable; and once separated, they are willing to go up to any extent to be
loyal to each other and their love. This idea is strongly emphasized when Juliet is willing to kill
herself rather than marry Paris which proves that she is loyal to her love. Romeo, in return, kills
himself after he sees Juliet dead, which shows that he too is loyal to his love. Romeo and Juliet are
both young and immature when they fall in love with each other, and their immaturity results in them
not understanding that love has its limits. The young lovers love to an extreme neglecting love s
limits, which leads to them not taking mature decisions and steps, but rather rashly and abruptly on
impulse to honor their love for each other. Romeo and Juliet feel such a burden to honor their love for
each other that they end up committing suicide.
Romeo and Juliet s excessive love and blind love are the most powerful ingredients to their self
destruction. The young lovers, Romeo and Juliet s idolatry for each other symbolizes excessive love
by them willing to go against their families and committing suicide at the

8. Paris Urban Planning
As the largest city in France with a 10.8 million population ( The World Factbook: France , 2017),
Paris has been ranked number four according the global power city index measured by Institute for
Urban Strategies, The Mori Memorial Foundation (2017). Moreover, as one of the most visited city in
the world (Millington, 2017), proper urban planning in Paris seems to be required in order to maintain
an appropriate balance between the large amount of tourists influx and the residents living quality.
Based on Before Sunset (Linklater, 2004), the movie conveyed several perspectives that could
potentially impact the urban planning of Paris. This paper would be analyzing the following aspects in
order to emphasize the importance of urban planning in such a megacity: the concept of city
sustainability, the mixed use concept within the city, and the importance of open space. An insight on
the relation between urban planning and vulnerability towards terrorism attack would also be
discussed.
The concept of urban sustainability stemmed from the expectation of large population influx within
the next 50 years to major cities. If no sustainable plans were implemented prior to the population
growth, the sudden increase in carbon footprint, household and transportation greenhouse gases, and
so on could potentially worsen some severe global phenomena such as climate change or extreme
weather conditions (Kammen Sunter, 2016). As a result, in major cities like Paris, the integration of

9. Affluenza Punishment
Heinous crimes need punishments. In our current judicial system, the wealth of defendants often
allows for lesser sentences for crimes. Be it because a real sentence will cause too much strain on the
criminal or because someone was not told no enough times as a kid, wealthy people are getting off
with little to no punishment. This epidemic is often referred to as affluenza, a disease of the rich that
makes them unable to understand the consequences of their behavior, but it is not in the Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual, the psychology book that lists all mental disorders, which pretty much means
that it is not real: it is a made up disease (Szalavitz). Affluenza is something people use to describe

the incident. He was allowed to stay unsupervised at his parents second home with his friends where
he decided to steal beer and become highly intoxicated. Late into the festivities, Ethan drove his seven
friends to a convenience store very erratically, speeding up to 70 mph. He wound up at the site of
another accident when he lost control of his truck and wound up killing four bystanders and causing
paralysis to a passenger of his truck (Klass). When it came time for the trial, he admitted guilt.
However, he was not going to accept the consequences. His powerhouse legal team called
psychologist Dr. G Dick Miller to the stand where he used the now famous term affluenza to explain
why Couch did what he did. According to Miller, Couch grew up in a wealthy lifestyle and had
virtually no consequences for his actions and thus was not expected to know that driving under the
influence (and under age) was prohibited by law (Klass). The prosecution for the case advocated that
Couch serve 20 years in prison, which was admittedly less than he deserved. However, he only
received ten years probation and a court required stint in a fancy rehabilitation center in California
(Szalavitz). The judge gave him quite a lenient sentence for killing four people. It would be hard to
deny that the affluenza claim by the defense did not somehow influence the sentencing, but either way,
it is despicable. The Couch family had the best lawyers for their son and that wealth spurred the claim
that none of it was his fault. Couch got away with killing four people simply because he was a wealthy
teenager with fancy lawyers who said that his parents were to blame and not him, even though he was

10. Using Material from Item a and Elsewhere, Assess the Claim...
Using material from Item A and elsewhere, assess the claim that gender differences in educational
achievement are primarily the result of changes in society
Some sociologists claim that gender differences in achievement are the result of external factors such
as changes in wider society, e.g. The impact of feminist ideas and changing employment opportunities
(as stated in Item A). However, this could also be an outcome of internal factors such as the education
system becoming feminised , which could have impacted the performance of girls achievement, as it
has risen at a faster rate at some levels and in some subjects. Some sociologists also argue that the
media have exaggerated the extent and nature of any problem.
External ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These changes are affecting girls attitudes towards education in a number of ways as increased
numbers of female headed lone parent families may mean more women need to take on the major
bread winner role. This further creates a new financially independent, career minded role model for
girls. The need for good qualifications is made very clear and the girls aspirations tend to require
academic effort. Becky Francis points out that boys are more likely to have career aspirations that are
not only unrealistic but often require few formal qualifications, e.g. professional footballer.
Evidence suggests that girls are more likely to spend their leisure time in ways which compliment
their education and contribute to educational achievements. Mitsos and Browne place considerable
emphasis on reading. Women are more likely to read than men, and mothers are more likely than
fathers to read to their children. Therefore girls are more likely to have same sex role models to
encourage them to read. Poor language and literacy skills are likely to affect boys performance across
a wide range of subjects.
Whilst there are factors outside school, internal factors also impact gender differences in educational
achievements hugely. According to Tony Sewell, boys fall behind in education because schools have
become more feminised , as indicated in Item A. This means that feminine traits such as methodical
working and attentiveness have

11. Environmental Consequences Of Offshore Oil Drilling
Offshore oil drilling is a controversial topic because when oil spills, it does extensive amounts of
damage to the environment. Countries capable of mining oil in the ocean reap the economic benefits
in addition to reducing their dependency on external oil. While it is uncontroversial that offshore
drilling is a massive boon for those countries, the environmental consequences of a spill also affect the
economic welfare of nearby residents. Oil contaminates animals through a process called
biomagnification, where chemicals progressively become more detrimental to the animals the higher
they are on the food chain. When oil spills into the ocean, it impairs the growth of native species and
deteriorates the ecosystem. As a result, the livelihood of people in the tourist industry, fisherman, and
shrimpers is crippled and may take decades to recover. Presuming that a country has a coast it can use
for drilling, excavating oil from depths of up to a mile is nowhere near effortless. In addition to
common oilrig accidents, fires and spills, there are a plethora of problems that oil riggers can
encounter including severe weather storms (like hurricanes) and inexperience in the remote oceans
depths. Oilrigs are being used even deeper in the ocean creating new environmental and engineering
problems. Dr. Joseph A. Pratt of the University of Houston, highlights the problems riggers
encountered when drilling for oil in the Canadian sector of the Beaufort Sea; conditions were

The Egyptians had harsh punishments for breaking the law. The laws were based on common sense
view of right and wrong. It depended on which crime the criminal did to figure out which punishment
they would receive. Not only would it disgrace them, but it would disgrace their whole family.
Now, Egypt uses criminal codes. The criminal codes listed three main categories of crime: minor
offenses, misdemeanors, and felonies. Lower courts handled the majority of these cases. Capitol
crimes that carried a possible death sentence includes murder, manslaughter, arson or the uses of
explosives that caused death, rape, treason, and endangerment of state security. In Egypt few
convictions for capital crimes, however, resulted in execution.
Egypt laws required that a detained person be brought before a magistrate and formally charged within
48 hours or released. The accused are entitled to post bail and had the right to defended by legal
counsel. Searches can not be conducted without a warrant.
The justice system in the United States is one of the most unique in the world. It consists of two
separate levels of courts, state and federal.. Most of the laws that govern our day to day living are state
laws; violations of federal law include offenses involving federal government employees, kidnapping
or evading arrest, and fraud such as income tax or postal fraud.
There are two types of trials: criminal and civil. In a

Of the impressionist movement, some would say that Oscar Claude Monet, better known as just Claud
Monet, as one of the most distinguished artist of the 19th century. He transformed French painting
forever. Many painters during this time usually included landscape scenes and nature in their artwork,
but none could grasp the vivid imagination Monet had, which added passion to his wonderful
masterpieces. He was literally painting the way into the twentieth century with his unique style of
painting, and becoming a role model for many artists to follow, showing how art can be re imagined
into something more beautiful than this world can possess.
On November 14th, Claude Monet was born in Paris, France. His parents took him back to their home
in Le Havre, a commercial maritime city widely known for many cliffs, open seas, and wonderful
sunsets that made an everlasting impression on Monet that would forever show up in his work. His

Andrew Carnegie, The Selfish Philanthropist
Andrew Carnegie, born on November 25, 1835, was a Scottish philanthropist who was one of the
richest men in America in the 1900 s. I completely agree with Carnegie s opinion of how the rich
should donate their money toward the good of mankind before they die, but disagree with his actions
toward his workers . He started working in a cotton mill making $1.20 a week only to upgrade to
$2.20 working as a messenger boy. He eventually taught himself telegraphy and worked as Thomas A.
Scott s assistant for $35 a month. He moved on to investing, with the help from his mentor Scott, in

This also prevents the family member or the heirs of the inheritance to be spoiled. Carnegie had a
great point for doing this. For some strange reason, Carnegie cut the wages of his steel workers while
at the same time putting money toward public programs that would benefit mankind. He even stated
that he could put more use of that money than the workers ever could, which is ridiculously egotistical
and rude. By not giving his workers a fair wage, he was hurting the economy. Our economy is based
off of consumers spending their money. In my honest opinion, I think Carnegie is a selfish attention
seeking mastermind. He seems very sensitive to what other people think of him. Don t get me wrong,
he sounds like a nice, caring, and independent man. His intentions though, are outweighed by the
means and basis for his profit: unfair and underpaid labor. The money that he made from his steel
factory was ironically against his giving attitude that he was trying to generate. I think that after he
realized that he would never have to worry about his financial situation ever again, he focused on
becoming a public figure and cared about the public opinion of himself. An example to prove this
would be how he reacted to the steel strikes. While he was visiting Scotland, his next in command
(Henry Clay Frick) replaced all of the strikers with immigrants. This action is said to have caused the
death of 10 men. Carnegie took the

19. The Failures Of Market Failure
Market failure, in economic terms, refers to a situation wherein the free market fails to efficiently
allocate the goods and services. Or in other words, during market failure, another conceivable
outcomes (non Pareto optimal) exist wherein a market participant is found to be made better off
without making anyone else worse off (Francis Bator, 1958). The failures in market can be seen as the
scenarios in which the pursuit of pure self interest of an individual leads to inefficient results as per
the societal point of view and bearing high chances of improvement. Basically, market failures occur
when the market lacks economic efficiency.
Market failures may occur due to a plenty of reasons including asymmetries in information,
externalities, monopoly, time inconsistent preferences, principal agent issues, public goods, or non
competitive markets etc. Therefore the market failure often requires the intervention of supra national
institutions and self regulated governments and organizations in that particular market (Joseph Stiglitz,
1989). Micro economists are usually involved in the task of identifying potential causes of market
failure and suggesting appropriate corrective measures. An important role is played by such an
analysis in number of public policy studies and decision making. Historical records show us that
governmental interventions have various impacts on the economy of its country. However, poorly

The ideology of self, of personal identity, is represented by a person s perception of what is acceptable

expressing more wonder than if some strange minister were coming to dust the cushions of Mr.

Accepted ideology is an ideology that is in itself not real, it is illusory and mutable. When the illusion
is challenged, the ideology of self is challenged. By using words that depict the illusory ideology of
the parishioners, and perhaps also mirror the illusory ideology of the reader, Hawthorne reinforces the
idea that Ideology is constituted by images and fantasies (Bennett Royle 160). The sentences, He has

his whole person, and makes him ghostlike (Hawthorne 13) reinforce the illusory aspects of an

they can only locate the veil as subject. The black veil, though it covers only our pastor s face, throws

between good and bad, because our reality is never just black and white; these are just generic terms.
In hindsight, the problems that we see today are a result of the detrimental and lethal effects of the
choices that our past presidents have made on the lives of people of color abroad and within the
United States. It is you who has the power to vote for a presidential candidate that will advocate for

Love is the ubiquitous force that drives all people in life. If people did not want, give, or receive love,
they would never experience life because it is the force that completes a person. People rely on this
seemingly absent force although it is ever present. Elizabeth Barrett Browning is an influential poet
who describes the necessity of love in her poems from her book Sonnets from the Portuguese. She
writes about love based on her relationship with her husband. Her life is dependent on him, and she
expresses this same reliance of love in her poetry. She uses literary devices to strengthen her argument
for the necessity of love. The necessity of love is a major theme in Elizabeth Barrett Browning s

She must instantly renew thy presence just as she breathes, or the love could be lost (Mermin 151).
Plants constantly require and take in carbon dioxide to stay alive. Just as plants rely on carbon dioxide,
people absorb and let out love in order to live. Through the image of a plant embodying love,
Browning harvest the reader s own feelings of love and awakens the reality that people depend on
love. Just as love grows within a person, it can also become an obstacle. Browning imagines what
happens when love becomes a burden in the reader s life: bands of greenery which inshpere thee, Drop

thoughts of not giving or receiving love; they weigh her down almost to the point of death. She needs
to turn her thoughts of love into actions or she will die with the burden (Moran 147). The reader may
feel the same about their feelings of love and is able to empathize with the speaker; on the contrary,
they can feel sympathetic since they should listen to the speaker to release the sentiments so that the
speaker no longer holds the burden of her thoughts. Browning also uses figurative language to
describe the necessity of love. The author s love is ubiquitous with the description of [loving] thee to

Pros and Cons under the 8th Amendment
1.
Introduction
The U.S. Constitutional Rights are laws that guarantee the basic rights for the citizens. There are
twenty seven Constitutional Amendments in total, but 10 of them represent The Bill of Rights. The
Bill of Rights ensures the basic individual protections such as freedom of speech and religion. The Bill
of Rights became part of the Constitution in December 15, 1791 by George Mason.
In my opinion, the 8th amendment is important because this amendment gives people the right against
excessive bail, fines, or cruel and unusual punishment. No citizen of the United States should be
subjected to cruel or insane punishment, and they shouldn t have to pay a bail amount that is too
excessive for the crime. This Amendment was added to the Bill of Rights to ensure greater stability
and was a compromise between the legislature election in the original non party elections and the new
president. The Amendment s Bail Clause is a result of injustices perpetrated in England, were judges
often abused their power in determining whether bail should be allowed to suspects. After a number of
unsuccessful attempts at reforming the law, the English Bill of Rights in 1689 specifically outlawed
excessive bail. The U.S. supreme court s held in 1987 that the eighth Amendment s Bail Clause had

surrounds me; the tree in my yard, the house that I live in, and the chair that I am sitting in right now
are made of the same exact materials that I am made of! I made this discovery whilst I was discussing
science with my dad. Earlier that day, at school we had been talking about molecules and how they
were made of atoms. My dad often likes to extend my understanding of subjects which I study at
school, which is what he was doing that day. Since we had discussed atoms and molecules in school
my dad had decided to go a little further with me, and talk about what atoms were made of. This led us
to the subject of protons, neutrons and electrons. Over the course of the next few days he taught me
the basics of what I have now come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the bell rang, signifying school had ended I ran through the hallways, weaving in and out of
people who were exiting their classrooms. I rushed over to my locker, put in the combination, grabbed
my backpack, and sprinted outside. My dad was there, waiting in the parking lot to pick me up, like he
did everyday. I rushed over to him and asked him when we could talk, Later, be patient he replied. I
opened the car door, and jumped in, closing the door after myself. My dad got into the car, and we
started on the short drive home. The whole ride I was bouncing up and down in my seat in
anticipation. When I finally got home, my dad gave in to me and said we could talk about string
theory. We sat down and he explained string theory to me. He then explained how strings could be
what protons, neutrons and electrons. This is about when I made the connection that if atoms make up
everything in this world and strings make up atoms, then I too am made of strings! In other words, I
am made up of the same things that a chair is made up of, simply vibrating at a different

The legal status of marijuana in the US has been a subject of controversy since its introduction in

marijuana would not only be an economic boon for the US and be beneficial for our medical fields,
but would also make it safer by introducing regulations and protection for consumers. Marijuana has
been used over the years for both recreational and medical purposes. In regards to both, the United
States economy has spent billion of dollars annually enforcing the laws of the illegal use of marijuana.

33. How Did Jean Honore Fagonard The Swing
The Swing by Jean Honore Fragonard, is an oil on canvas painting (2′8″ x 2′1″) created in 1766. This
painting is often brought up when one discusses the Rococo period of art, as it is considered to be one
of the most recognized of the period. This painting is the epitome of the Rococo style of art. Rococo
was an art period that appeared in the early 1700s, when the reign of Louis XIV came to an end. It s a
combination of the Italian word Barocco, and irregularly shaped pearl; with the French word rocaille,
which is a popular form of ornate gardening/interior ornamentation. The upper class wanted a style of
art that described their lifestyles of luxury and frivolity, which is exactly what the ideas behind
Rococo were. This led to a plethora of artists recreating the idea of pleasure and beauty in much of
their art. The Palace of Versaille is the ideal example of Rococo elegance, showing the ideals of the
French Enlightenment period. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The woman is surrounded by two men who seem to be yearning for her attention. At the time this
painting was created, a lot of scandal was built up behind it; in the painting, the man in front of the
woman seems to be getting a view up her skirt, while her supposed husband stands behind her, pulling
the swing. This painting is extremely synonymous with the Rococo era due to the carefree, leisurely
nature of the woman on the swing. As well as the scene of luxury and beauty being shown is very

36. Environmental And Health Hazards Of Burning Coal
2. Environmental And Health Hazards of Burning Coal
Coal is the primary fuel for electricity production in India and its usage is continuously growing to
meet the energy demands of the country. Emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants are
growing in India with the increasing demand for electricity. The aspiration for fast economic growth
lead to grow rapid industrialization coupled with accelerated urbanization and mechanization of
agriculture has been responsible for this increasing need of electricity ever since the independence.
The electricity consumption grew from 375.39 (billion kWh) in 2000 to 600.65 (billion kWh) in 2008
at an annual growth rate of 6.67% , while the electric power production grew from 529.12 billion kWh
in 2000 to 835.27 billion kWh at an annual growth rate of 5.78% .
Main gases are emitted from coal fired and lignite based thermal power plants are CO2, NOx, SOx,
and air borne inorganic particles such as fly ash, carbonaceous material (soot), suspended particulate
matter (SPM), and other trace gas species. Thermal power plants, using about 70% of total coal in
India4 (Garg et. al., 2002), are among the Large Point Sources (LPS) having significant contribution
(47% each for CO2 and SO2) in the total LPS emissions in India.
Large difference between electric power production and consumption are due to transmission and
distribution losses. In India, the losses are extremely high and they are varying between 30 to 45%.

The film genre of the Western has long since proven to be more about the conflict and showdowns that
occur in the storyline. Usually the western genre incorporates traditional western motifs and icons and
adheres to those common plot structures of the genre, but Brokeback Mountain is different from what
is to be normally expected because it does not seem like a traditional and conventional Western film at
all. Brokeback Mountain has several different twists to it, like the more modern take on it traditionally,
characters in Western films were riding horses, but because Brokeback Mountain is a more modern
movie, the two characters Jack and Ennis are seen traveling in cars and trucks most of the time. This

Brokeback Mountain, being the more homosexual romance oriented Western that it is, subverts a large
number of the typical traditional elements of the Western film genre as a whole, this one especially, by
having another male be in the position of the love interest of the hero. Although this subversion in
particular is very problematic for Jack, as it puts him in the shoes of being associated with all things
relating to femininity in the relationship. For example, Jack is the one who makes the first move when
seducing Ennis, using his own allure and sexuality into tempting Ennis when he calls him into the tent,
leading Ennis down somewhat of a risky path. Ennis, however, is portrayed as somewhat of a saint,
his being repressed and restrained by social standards, saying to Jack, You may be a sinner but I ain t
yet had the opportunity . Another interesting typical thing in the Western genre that was altered was
that instead of Indians being the villain, the enemy is that of a ignorant and oppressive society a
society that would kill Ennis and Jack for being different , Ennis says to Jack, this thing takes hold of
us at the wrong place, wrong time and we re dead, which shows how much they both worry about it
but the two cowboys still have to find some way to pull through and struggle to find their true selves
in this society, but it is also that fear which causes the devastating events

40. Last Night By Sharon Olds Summary
In the poem Last Night by Sharon Olds, the essence of the poem was greatly enhanced through the
wistful delivery of the speaker and the present tone of lust and desire. This was obtained through the
successful pronunciation of words and the various use of literary devices such as metaphors and
similes, in addition to the steamy atmosphere that the erotic tone of this poem brings. The profound
languages used helps the reader develop an idea of what the context is and the main idea that revolves
around the sentences or words. In the where it begins with Love? it shows the uncertainty of an
individual who s confused and possesses unanswered questions. When the speaker emphasizes the
question mark at the end of the word, it genuinely separates the idea of a general question and one that
is searching for answers. The goal of the language used in the poem will not be achieved without the
speaker acting on it verbally. Words are empty without emotions and therefore the speaker plays an
important role that enforces meaning and structure onto what is being said. Another important factor
would be the speaker s attitude. How the speaker approaches the poem gives away the main idea, the
concept and even the identity of the person behind these words. For example, if the speaker proceeds
through the poem with a very positive attitude, it sets a different atmosphere than the one that would
be if it was approached negatively. In this case, the speaker continues with the poem

The book also describes how the ice cores are drilled and how the ice cores are processed. The team of
scientists use the ice cores and the chemical composition of them to get a better grasp of past climates
and climate changes. The main drilling mentioned is the Greenland Ice Sheet Project that was
overseen by many agencies and supported by multiple higher education institutions. The project took
many seasons and the teamwork of many top scientists from many top universities and research
organizations. The data recovered from the thousands of meters of drilled ice contained the answers to
many questions pertaining to the climate of now and the way the world climate once was. The drill
was positioned at the very top of a glacier in a spot that was studied closely to make sure the project
could yield the most accurate data for observation. The project took place in the early 1990 s and was
completed by the 2000 s, but the data collected will help serve the world population for lifetimes

44. Soap Is Manufactured With A Process Called Saponification
Saponification Lab
By: Anittha Ranganathan
Introduction
In this day and age, soap is manufactured with a process called saponification. This is the process of
where fats and oils are heated with the presence of a strong base usually sodium hydroxide or
potassium hydroxide, this produces a fatty acid salt and glycerol. The salt of the fatty acid is the waxy
and soft material of the soap. Soap is one of the greatest products to be ever invented by humans. It
has a great deal of multi purposes such has getting objects clean or even killing bacteria. Just like any
other inventions, soap has its flaws. One of the main flaws would be that it has a tendency to form
precipitates in hard water. Washing with soap in hard water leads to reacting with chemicals to form
sum, which forces to throw out the soap since you cannot clean anything. In 1916 the first synthetic
soap was invented in Germany during World War I due to the shortage of fats for making the soap as
well so it doesn t react with hard water.8 The pH, how it lathers, removes grease and removes dirt is
how a soap can be determined to be a either a good soap or a bad one.
The pH of soap is important because it lets you know whether the soap is safe to use. Testing the pH
of soap is not always accurate, without the expensive lab equipment soap testing will not give us the
precise pH. What we are actually testing is to check if the soap is within the normal pH of soap, which
is between 7 to 10. This guarantees that there

45. Elements Of The Most Dangerous Game And The Most Dangerous...
The stories The Most Dangerous Game and The Gift of the Magi are both well written and vivid
stories. The Most Dangerous Game is about a hunter who becomes hunted, and The Gift of the Magi
is about a married couple trying to find each other gifts for christmas. Both stories have literary
elements that move the story along, but in The Most Dangerous Game the elements are used more
effectively. In the story, The Most Dangerous Game, two hunters, Whitney and Rainsford, sail past an
island with a bad reputation among sailors. Rainsford falls out and swims to shore. A man named
Zaroff takes him in for dinner. It turns out that he is a hunter like Rainsford, but his method of hunting
is different. Rainsford ends up being hunted by Zaroff and he comes to a very difficult choice. He
decides to risk it and jump off a cliff to swim back to shore. The story ends when Rainsford finds his
way back and challenges Zaroff. This story portrays many literary elements. One of them is
forshadowing. There are two ways that the author, Richard Connell, uses this technique. First off,
Whitney says, The world is made up of two classes. The hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I
are hunters. This foreshadows when Rainsford is going to be in the position of the huntee. Second, he
foreshadows the eerie island. The place has a reputation a bad one. says Whitney. Later on, the island
has great importance in the story. Another element Connell uses is situational irony. He uses it when
