The Cockatoucan Theme
[If] you make me the Princess s governess, I ll see what I can do... (177) the little girl asks the
hopeless King. In The Cockatoucan by E. Nesbit, compiled in Neil Gaiman s Unnatural Creatures, the
narrator draws attention to gender and age inequality. Overcoming various obstacles, the protagonist
demonstrates her maturity throughout the journey, where she chooses to make decisions for the sake
of the kingdom of Green Land. Saving the kingdom from the unnatural creature, the girl s actions and
maturity serve as a platform in addressing today s public affairs. In the light of these social issues, I
will argue that Nesbit imposes on the themes of voyage and return and coming of age to show how a
young girl can mature and gain wisdom through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Matilda is portrayed as a female child heroine, Colin Manlove implies that Nesbit suggests
that the capabilities of female children are underestimated in his journal article entitled Fantasy as
Witty Conceit In this journal article, Manlove critiques that there are two sides of Nesbit the realist
and the supernaturalist ...where magic is given a colloquial and comic face, and is brought into contact
with very human children (126). This implies that the direct audience are those oppressed by society s
double standards, especially female children, and the indirect audience are those who ridicule the
capabilities of the oppressed. The story draws attention to social issues ( realist ) by assimilating
fantasy fiction ( supernaturalist ). In this case, female children are belittled due to their age and gender.
Since gender bias is also an issue, professors, who published the journal article Gender Differences in
Children s Hero Attributions, observe that boys were expected to endorse heroes for their ability to act
on the world (instrumental attributes) and for their wealth or fame (prestige) more than girls (Holub et
al. 569). This alludes that the gender gap does not only apply to adults, but also children. Through
their observations, the professors found that there is an underlying bias towards male heroes over
female heroes

they settle by the Sangamon River near Decatur. Again in 1831 Abe takes another flat boat trip and his
father decides to move again but instead of going with the family Abe decides to move to New Salem
Illinois to work as a clerk in one of the local stores and he uses the back of the store as his bedroom so
has a place to stay. He then learns basic math and he starts to read Shakespeare and also begins to
participate in the debating society. In 1832 Abe becomes a candidate for the Illinois General Assembly

elected to be the captain of a rifle company but then is released because the company was disband.
After a short time Abe would then re enlist and would become a private but he would go on to never

Disease Resistance and the Immune Modulatory Effects on...
Numerous studies have assessed the feasibility and effectiveness of supplementing aquafeeds with a
variety of potentially probiotic bacteria, but probably the most well documented are LAB [41]. Among
LAB, lactobacilli strains have been the focus of much interest. Since, the immune system modulation
strongly dependent on the metabolites they produce, such as proteolysis, could release peptides that
may (or may not) interact with immune cells to induce distinct immunomodulatory response [42].
Though only few strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), especially Lactobacillus, have been isolated
from marine environments, their unique characteristics have proved that there is clear potential to use
them as probiotics with advanced health benefits [43]. To the best of our knowledge, the present
investigation was the first report on disease resistance and the immune modulatory effects on Nile
Tilapia using dietary supplemented with marine LAB. Therefore, the present work selected the most
promising marine LAB isolated from Egyptian marine samples and evaluated its effect(s) on innate
immunity and disease resistance of Nile Tilapia fish during 50 days feeding trial. Based on the
physiological characteristics, using API 50 CHL, it is pointed out that the selected isolate R1 is
Lactobacillus plantarum. Furthermore, antimicrobial activities induced by Lb. plantarum against the
fish pathogen, A. hydrophila, could be attributed to the fact that lactobacillus bacteria can be
stimulated to

The Importance Of Making Valid Decision And Strategizing...
1
I still remember the days in my universities as if it were yesterday. In those days I worked with lot of
national and international organizations, which are working in varied sectors and bringing change by
modern methodologies. In second year of my under graduate, I founded a Non Governmental
Organization named Fep Si (Forum for Empowering people through Social Innovation and
Entertainment) and worked with another organization named Alexis Foundation as research associate
for designing public policy driven by Big Data. From the experiences of working in these
organizations I learnt about the importance of making valid decision and strategizing on business,
polity and market front by providing accurate and up to date information and performing data driven
decision making at minor level. On the other hand exposure of working with United Nations Envoy on
Youth also helped me in evolving as a leader who has the quality of thinking analytically towards
global problems. During these days I have felt many times that a lot of these problems can be solved
by integrating computer technology into data collection and management of resources, energy, capital
and various other things which are generally done by old methodologies. These instances motivated
me to believe that in the complex and interconnected world of international business and its
strategizing, the science of information management is ever more important.
My interest in analytical thinking and science dates back to my

What Role Did The Power Play In The Battle Of Hastings
William became Duke of Normandy at age eight when his father died; however, people questioned his
power of authority because his parents were not technically married. This empowerment brought upon
many issues early on. Nevertheless, the battles started when William was agreed under the table to
succeed as the next of King of England. With no witnesses or documentation proving this agreement,
Harold Earl of Essex took reign after King Edward s death. This power move infuriated William,
which created tension and provoked William. In1066, William and his troops set sail to invade
England. William was not the only man promised to succeed King Edward; therefore, King Harold
had many people after him because he was named the throne. Harald Hardrada, king ... Show more

The Saxon army was made up of the house carles, the king s bodyguard. They fought on foot with
axes. They wore coats of chain mail called hauberks. Kite shaped shields protected them (Lambert).
Whereas, the Norman army was much more up to date. Norman knights fought on horseback. They
wore chain mail and carried kite shaped shields. They fought with lances, swords and mace (Lambert).
The battle of Hastings was the first of many battles for the William. In the famous Battle of Hastings
both Harold and his brother were killed; therefore, William the crowned himself king. His conquest of
power did not stop there. William marched into several other countries including Scotland and France
with intentions to win authority. He continued conquering lands surrounding England and distributed a
portion to Norman followers. This was when William developed the feudal system, which gave
Barons authority under the King s rule. The Baron s then split their land up giving sections to Knights
who rented their land out to serfs. This idea of feudal allowed William to have control over these
manors. The Barons and Knights were indebted to the King for their military services. The serfs were

Are Eyewitness Retention Consistent Evidence For An Offense?
The memory of an eyewitness has always been an endless dispute throughout the narration of its
existence. The word of an individual holds the most substance; it s the only real thing of value that
person hold, having a witness of a crime is a criminal s vilest nightmare. There is a phrase that may
have been heard in movies and reality, eyewitness do not live too long. This phrase has range amongst
people revealing the reputation of eye witnessing for the majority and jury. All evidence used to
convict a person has to go through a vigilant examination process especially the testimony of an
eyewitness. So much emphasis is put on a truthful and accurate testimony because there has been a
false testimony, which cause consequences and complications. Criminal justice systems should
demand their district to notice there is an occurrence of bad witness memory, because the brain will
juggle and play games with the hauler. Predominantly, the mix up happens because of the perception
particularities the individuals mind has mad up and the original information. Memory is simply the
development of perception, how the brain process what is seen and reproduces it later. Since there is a
chance that the reproduction of once memory will be wrong that makes it essential to the individual
does not damage the facts. This accentuates the stress on the knowledge of the eyewitness well being

Premises Liability Case
Trip and fall or slip and fall cases are also referred to a premises liability. A claim such as this
generally arises due to a defect in the property s floor that causes an individual to trip or slip and fall.
The act of tripping or slipping on someone s property does not automatically trigger liability. The fact
that the defect exists is irrelevant unless evidence establishes that the property owner was aware of the
defect and neglected to fix it. The question in an Illinois liability claim is notice. Because notice is the
most important issue in a premises liability case, the definition of notice is difficult to define;
however, there are standards that the court has set to assist lawyers and their claimants to determine
whether a premises liability case exits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if a defect is not obvious or only appears under certain conditions obtaining adequate
pictures for evidence may be challenging. No previous complaints or prior inspections of the property
also make establishing defects difficult. In situations such as this, the attorney will conduct an
investigation to determine whether or not the property owner should have been aware of the defect
responsible for causing the slip and fall. Defining Notice Notice refers to what a property owner
knows or should have known at the time of the incident. One of the classic notice situations involves a
property owner knowing about a defect, but neglects to fix it. Evidence must be presented showing the
number of times an owner was informed of the defect and ignored it. Exceptions to Premises Liability
Claims The Illinois courts have ruled that water tracked into a property by visitors on a rainy day is a
natural occurrence; therefore, a property owner is not considered liable in the event of a slip and fall.
In addition, a property owner is not liable if a slip and fall is caused by other natural occurrences, for
example ice and

Hotel On The Corner Of Bitter And Sweet Summary
The novel Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, is a unique story. In the story, we learn about
Henry on two fronts of his life, the younger, twelve year old Henry during 1942, as well as forty year
old Henry in 1986. The story is about a love that surpasses time and distance. We follow Henry and
his life as young Chinese American boy attending a mainly white school on a scholarship. As a young
boy, Henry feels out of place since he barely speaks with his own parents, due to the fact that his
father wants him to speak his American, and also because he does not have many friends except for
Sheldon, a street player. As as older man, Henry also has a hard time communicating with his own
son, Marty, even more after the death of his wife, Ethel. Then Henry sees the Panama Hotel that had
been once boarded up decades ago during WWII. During his scholarship at Rainier Elementary in
1942, a Japanese girl named Keiko joins him in his class. Together, the two of them form a bond on
the fact that they are outcasts in their school for being different. Though, Henry s father looks down on
his friendship with Keiko since he views Japanese people as the enemy, and so he disowns Henry for
his relationship with a Japanese girl. This of course causes the canyon between Henry and his father to
widen. Even as the U.S. executes order 9066, sending all Japanese Americans in the West coast to
concentration camps, Henry and Keiko still manage to keep their relationship. But as their letters

The city of Petra was significant to the Nabatean people because of what it was able to provide them.
The two main things the city provided was an abundance of water and it was at the intersection of two
commercial trade routes. One extended west from Asia, and the other extended north from southern
Arabia. They were able to harness the supply of rainfall and the desert springs to the extent that they
had enough water for 100,00 people. They accomplished this through an intricate system of cisterns,
pools and waterways that captured and transported an estimated twelve million gallons of fresh spring
water daily. Flowing through these trade routes was an estimated twenty five hundred camels

Supply And Demand For Real Estate
INTRODUCTION
Within the property industry, the ever changing nature of the real estate market is affecting supply and
demand for real estate. As a result, a key issue stemming from reducing demand is increasing office
vacancy in Brisbane s central business district which reached a high of 15.6% in January 2015,
according to the Property Council of Australia (2015). Current literature suggests that the lack of
demand can be attributed to negative net absorption by the government and resources sectors, office
over supply, low business confidence and high unemployment rates (Property Council of Australia
2015). This is making office space difficult to lease, increasing financial stress on property owners and
changing how the office investment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Were There Ethnic Tensions In The Soviet Union
Q6. Ethnic tensions became such a severe problem in the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia due to the fact
that it would be a dividing factor in the nation. With the ethnic groups separating from each other, the
Soviet Union and Yugoslavia would begin to weaken and crumble. The ethnic tensions would cause
the different ethnic groups to separate from each other, they no longer agreed with each other.
Nationalism would be the major cause of this severe problem, the people had pride in their ethnic
groups. Unfortunately, for big nations such as the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, they were filled with
multiple ethnic groups who all wanted to be their own separate state. More specifically, this would
prove to be extremely difficult for Yugoslavia to deal with due to the fact that their were at least six

More and more nations and ethnic groups wished to declare their own independence as a new nation.
The old Communist leaders within the Soviet Union were completely against the idea of allowing the
economy and political systems to open up, they were against allowing the different nations to break
free. The old Communist leaders wanted to maintain their Soviet Empire; unfortunately, they forgot
that nationalism, in time, destroys all empires. Nationalism, pride in their ethnic groups would be the
downfall of the Soviet Union. Four major nations would end up breaking away from the Soviet Union,
for example, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Romania. Each of these nations had to deal with
their own ethnic tension, they no longer wanted to be apart of the Soviet Union. These nations wanted
their independence, freedoms, rights, and liberties. They no longer wanted to be forced to follow and

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Disney Cruise Line
The Disney Cruise Line also utilizes the rhetorical appeal of pathos in almost every one of their
pictures to appeal to the reader s emotions. Most of the pictures that are shown throughout the book
contain elements that relate to people having a good time and smiling. For example the first page of
the booklet shows several families gathered together to watch fireworks on the deck of the ship. This
image appeals to the reader s emotions as the reader sees several families having a good time and truly
enjoying themselves. Seeing a large group of people so ecstatic, the reader cannot help but feel happy
as well. The cruise line company also makes the reader feel emotions through the images of the
specific locations that the reader can choose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Disney Cruise Line takes advantage of the rhetorical appeal of kairos to get people to go on their
cruises. One of the ways they use kairos is through the description of their new cruise. The company
states, For the first time in the summer of 2014, Disney Cruise Line sails to Europe with over a dozen
ports of call dotting the sunny Mediterranean, (Disney Cruise Line 24). Disney appeals to kairos by
pointing out the fact that this is the first time they are offering this type of cruise. People are often
more eager to go on vacations if they believe they are going to be some of the first people to have that
experience. Disney utilizes this idea of being the first to make their new customers feel more special
and their returning customers feel obligated to try out the new cruise for the first time. The Disney
Cruise Line again appeals to kairos in the same way about their new Alaskan cruise. They state, We
now also offer an Alaskan cruise that includes historic Sitka, (Disney Cruise Line 4). They again
appeal to the idea that this cruise is brand new and that the readers will be more eager to try a new
cruise. Over the course of the entire booklet, the Disney Cruise Line attaches the word new to several
statements. For example, the cruise line offers all new enhancements and all new watery play areas
(Disney Cruise Line 5). In doing using the word new, the company gets the customer more excited
about going on the cruise making them believe that they will be the first to try out the additions. It is
well known that people are drawn to new things, and Disney takes full advantage of this concept by
attaching the word new to whatever statement they can. The thought that the customer is going to
experience an aspect of the cruise that is brand new, makes them more excited and more likely to go

Lincoln Leadership Essay
In many people s eyes Lincoln was sought out to be a fantastic leader. Lincoln had a vision that
pertained to motivation and leadership style. Leading is all about motivation. As a leader your job as a
superior highly more important than your subordinates, because if you do not do your job, they can
not do theirs. Lincoln On Leadership is divided into 4 separate sections. Throughout the chapters there
are numerous facts on Lincoln s leadership style. Lincoln had vision which helped him lead by
focusing on motivation and honesty.
First, Lincoln believed in communication as a form of motivation. The book starts off with a chapter
named Get out of the Office and circulate among groups. which is ideal as a famous quote from

opinions and communications you can achieve anything. This is a bold statement that Lincoln backed
up by living by it. More than half of Lincoln s time was occupied by meetings with people and cabinet
members assuring smoothing operations. As a leader, he urged people to do as he did and keep
communication circling. Building trust around the office or other workplace creates motivation.

land at the Treaty of Fort Wayne, Tecumseh gradually eclipsed his brother as the primary leader of the

attempting to recruit the Creeks into his confederacy, U.S. forces marched against Prophetstown. In
the subsequent Battle of the Tippecanoe they defeated the Prophet, burned the settlement, and
destroyed the Indians food supplies. After returning from the South Tecumseh tried to rebuild his

Analysis Of The Graveyard Book
The Graveyard Book Essay
Fictional novels, in this case, The Graveyard Book, can teach us about ourselves. A fictional novel is
imaginary and is not necessarily based true facts. The Graveyard Book was published in 2008 by Neil
Gaiman. This book is about a normal boy named Nobody Owens but is known to his friends as Bod.
Bod is raised in the graveyard by educated ghosts, a solitary guardian who is neither living nor dead
and is under attack by the Man Jack. Two ideas that have been demonstrated throughout the novel is
that life is full of endless possibilities and relationships are a key part of our identity. This novel
teaches us about ourselves and the experiences that we have with our relationships with other people

This novel teaches us about the endless possibilities of life that we can face and that we can keep
trying until we succeed with the many opportunities that we have around us.
Throughout Gaiman s fictional novel the idea relationships are a key part of our identity has been
displayed. Bod s relationships and The Graveyard helped Bod find his identity of who he is. When
Bod goes off to school and Silas ran over Simon Silas said, I ll take you home put your arms around
my neck. The low modality that has been displayed is the calm and helpful words, which has also
created imagery for us to imagine what is going on when Silas helped Bod. At the beginning of
chapter 7, Bod wanted to know about every Man Jack and his family so Mrs. Owens reached out a
hand, touched her son s shoulder. One day, she said ... and then she hesitated. One day, she would not
be able to touch him. One day, he would leave them. One day. Gaiman has used repetition and ellipses
to emphasize that one day it will all happen and Miss Owens will not have the relationship with Bod
anymore. Before Scarlett is going off to England for her dad to teach practical Science she said you
are brave, you are the bravest person I know, and you are my friend. I don t care if you re imaginary.

what you look like. Everyone is unique. Throughout the novel, Bod s relationships with people have

Symptoms And Changes Of Depression
Depression is a mood disorder characterized by pervasive sadness and psychophysiological changes
like changes in sleep patterns, sexual desires, loss of pleasure in previously enjoyed things, and even
suicidal thoughts (Belmaker Agam, 2008, p. 55). Its rise in prevalence in Western society means that
students with depression or depressive symptoms are more common in our schools. The students
experience difficulty in motivation and self esteem, and depression is often comorbid with disorders
like ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. This means that students need additional support in
classrooms, and depression is very treatable with cognitive behavioral therapies.
Body
Increasing awareness of mental disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and
PTSD, has increased public dialog about these disorders. Currently the World Health Organization
estimates that by 2020 depression will be the 2nd highest cause of morbidity, poor health or diseased
state, worldwide (Popa, 2012, p. 414). In this paper, I will discuss the history of depression, its
presence in classrooms, and how schools and teachers can support the well being and success of their
depressed students.
One of the biggest shifts in recognizing mental disorders like depression as real and dangerous
disorders was the suicide of Robin Williams, who struggled with severe depression and anxiety related
to Parkinson s disease ( Robin Williams , 2015). And while later evidence links the cause of

The Silence Of The Night
The silence of the night was broken by a scream. She passed out of exhaustion but she was successful,
she had pushed the baby out of her and now it was the newborn child s turn to disturb the peace.
Halfway around the world there was another scream but it wasn t followed by good news. A man had
been murdered and his mother fainted on seeing his corpse. *** Felton wasn t really interested in
Halloween. And in a town like Salem where crimes were rare, the uniform was as good a costume as
any. His partner and ME were already there so he went to them for enlightenment, Cause of death?
Detective Barry replied, Bitten by a vampire I suppose. With an incredulous look on his face he turned
towards Barry but then the ME who was examining the body called him. There were two jagged holes
at the side of the victim s neck which in fact did look like a bite mark. So I guess we can say for sure it
was murder. Unless he bit himself, I mean he is dressed as a vampire. Barry s comment didn t have a
favourable reaction on Felton s face, glaring at him with painful intensity. Joe laughed to release the
tension and spoke up for the first time, Sorry to disappoint you Barry, but your Vampire theory won t
work. It wasn t a bite but two incursions applied by something sharp and reasonably small. I think the

Christianity, By Clive Staples Lewis
In Mere Christianity, Clive Staples Lewis, known as C.S Lewis known best for his writing, and being
a Christian apologist, divides the novel into 4 different section. Each book emphasizes the struggles he
has faced and overcome as well as personal life lessons he has learned. The first section, Right and
Wrong as a Clue to the Meaning of the Universe focus on moral law and the law of nature. Christians
Believe, second section, corresponds with his life because Lewis has had many interviews defending
his faith and studied the Bible thoroughly. In the third book, Christian Behaviour. It talks about all of
the different types of morals and behaviors Christians are called to follow because Lewis has studied
into Jesus s teaching he has a deeper understanding of what Jesus has called his followers to be.
Lastly, Beyond Personality: or First steps in the Doctrine of the Trinity, is about the first steps and the
process of becoming a Christian. Lewis went from an atheist to a highly Christian figure in the church
and believer society resulting into a lot of personal knowledge of the topics in his novel. C.S. Lewis s
life influences his writing in Mere Christianity through his ability to portray the foundation of
Christianity from the growth made from both his believer and non believer life, using the amount of
studies and research done defending the views of atheists and Christians, his studies in people and
Christian behavior, and finally how his intimate growth as a godly person

Ethics and It
The advances made in information technologies are causing an increasing number of ethical problems.
The power used to processing computers doubles about every two years. Organizations are more
dependent than ever before on their information systems. The Ethical problems arising from the
appropriate use of customer information, personal privacy, and the protection of intellectual property
have lead to increased laws to regulate the way data is collected. There are also privacy issues
involved collecting, storing, and disseminating information about individuals.

Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
The accessibility issues revolve around who should have access to information and whether they
should have to pay for this access created ethical concerns with the advances in IT. These accessibility
problems can be linked to formation of the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which
promotes the accuracy, fairness, and privacy of information in the files of consumer reporting
agencies. There are many types of consumer reporting agencies, including credit bureaus and specialty
agencies (such as agencies that sell information about check writing histories, medical records, and
rental history records). 3
We can see many instances where personal information collected by these agencies was used
unethically by others to assume the identities of the consumers. If you are a victim of identity theft or
are on active duty with the military, you have more rights under the FCRA. You may seek damages
from violators. If a consumer reporting agency, or, in some cases, a user of consumer reports or a

Wage Theft in the Fast Food Industry
Imagine having to clock out mid shift to prevent getting paid overtime, but not leaving for another
hour or two. Having to punch out for break but work through it, or having a paid vacation taken away
as if it never existed? Situations relative to these are reality and are classified as wage theft, defined by
the wage theft website as a variety of infractions that occur when workers do not receive their legally
or contractually promised wages (Wage Theft). The public is generally uneducated of the concept of
wage theft and the effects it has on our society, let alone what can be done about it. The Wage Theft

the lowest income workers in this country. Is that right?! . It is true workers of these restaurants do not
even make nearly enough to survive and are victims of wage theft while corporate workers make
millions more a year, caring less about what is happening to the workers below them.
In an article on AlterNet entitled Fast Food CEOs Making 1,200 Times Workers Wages Have No Idea
What Their Greed Does To Employees it revealed just how pathetic this industry really is. In the
article by Alyssa Figueroa, she stated that In the past decade, fast food CEOs wages have increased
more than 400 percent, while workers wages increased 0.3 percent . In a later statement, the average
fast food CEO salary at $23.8 million in 2013 and the average worker salary at $19,000 . If we are a
country that recognizes the issue of income inequality, why are we not doing anything in relation to
this issue? The article featured numerous testimonies including many occurrences of wage theft. In a
testimony by a woman named Marie Sanders, she states I was 17 years old and I had problems at
home, so I needed to budget my money in order to pay my expenses, I just stumbled upon it. I would
ask my manager for printouts of my time. And that s when I had noticed that I had been clocked out

Things Fall Apart Olunde
Like Okonkwo, Olunde stands alone. He acts alone, and no one can tell him what to do. He prides
himself in his accomplishments, but ultimately he recognizes that his education was not his shining
achievement. He understands that that education and the degree comes at a price. But even Olunde,
like Okonkwo, has a sense of tradition and heritage and cultural obligation which grounds him. Like
Okonkwo fulfilling the oracle s prophecy to kill Ikemefuna, Olunde must return to the village to bury
his father. When it becomes clear that the Horseman is not prepared to follow the King in death,
Olunde steps up to replace him. In a conversation with Joseph, another black man who has adopted
European ways through religion, Simon Pilkings says, What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The same can be said for Olunde, although the Pilkingses attempts to clear his mind are unsuccessful.
They cannot rid him of that cultural obligation and understanding, even though he has come so far.
They cannot rid him of the pridefulness that comes along with his native self. This is why he cannot
integrate; this is why Jane Pilkings scolds him; this is why the aide de camp calls him such horrible
names. He cannot be civilized. No one can. Because the whole system of civilization is impossible.
Europeans try to impose white ways on Black people, to rid them of their cultures, but even when all
of this is achieved, you have somebody like Olunde who refuses to lay down at the white people s
feet. He has very little more than contempt for these people. Characterizing best his attitude toward
the Europeans, he had this to say to Jane You white races know how to survive; I ve seen proof of that.
By all logical and natural laws this war should end with all the white races wiping out one another,
wiping out their so called civilisation for all time and reverting to a state of primitivism the like of

A Survey of Tragedy
A Survey of Tragedy A modern tragedy of today and a tragedy of ancient Greece are two very
different concepts, but ironically, both are linked by many similarities. In Poetics , Aristotle defines
and outlines tragedy for theatre in a way that displays his genius, but raises questions and creates
controversy. Aristotle s famous definition of tragedy states:
A tragedy is the imitation of an action that is serious, and also as having magnitude, complete in itself
in language with pleasurable accessories, each kind brought in separately in the parts of the work; in a
dramatic, not in a narrative form: with incidents arousing pity and fear; wherewith to accomplish its
catharsis of such emotions. I believe Aristotle s meaning of Imitate ... Show more content on

In Oedipus the King , Sophocles characterization of the protagonist is in near perfect compliance with
the traits Aristotle outlined in Poetics . In the first scene, the foundation is laid showing King Oedipus
as a good and kind King. He speaks with the city elder, showing his compassion and promising to
relieve the city of Thebes of a plague. As the story line plays out, Oedipus s character flaws of anger
and compulsiveness begin to appear. These defects force the king into situations he would have been
better to avoid, including his own fate death or banishment. When an Oracle reveals the prophecy that
Oedipus will kill his father and marry his mother, Oedipus leaves his comfortable life with King
Polybus of Corinth and his wife Merope, who he believes are his biological parents. On his way to the
city of Thebes, Oedipus kills a stranger on the road who turns out to be Laius, King of Thebes and
unbeknownst to him, his biological father. When Oedipus arrives in Thebes he saves the city from the
curse of the Sphinx, as a result is made King and marries the dead King s Queen, Jocasta, his mother,
thus fulfilling the prophecy. Oedipus is a victim of his own destiny and despite doing everything right;
there s nothing he could have done that would have changed his life. Studying Oedipus the King and

The Theology Of The Transcendental Model
that is an uncritical process. On the contrary, as this dialogue occurs, there is a critical analysis going
on. According to Bevans the importance of this dialogue is that the contextual theology that rises is
unique. Unfortunately, the constant threat of this model is that gospel and Tradition can be watered
down and lose their prophetic nature. As consequence of being diluted and losing its identity, the
gospel may also lose its transforming power.
The Transcendental Model
This model is the most difficult to understand. Because, though it seems very anthropological, it is
contingent to an inner human experience. This model depends on affective and cognitive events. In
other words, reality is not something external to be grasped, but it is within ourselves. However,
though in the beginning this exercise seems to rely on a personal or individual activity, this model is
highly communal. Thus, these transcendental events are generated through the person s interaction
with the community. In this model, the closer the person is to his/her local culture the more prepare
s/he will be to theologize. This model opens the way for what Schreiter calls the poet or local voices.
According to Bevans, this model opens the exercise of theologizing to non professional theologians.
Consequently, theology can be found in songs, art and other expressions. A second strength, this
model is not focused on finding the correct answer out there , but it is the authentication of the inner

Example Of Flexible Work Schedules
Flexible Work Schedule The beginning of work life started at the break of dawn. Most workers were
bound to their work for as long as daylight was available (Chung). During the Industrial Revolution
employees worked in factories on an assembly line(Chung). Workers clocked in at the same time, took
lunch at the same time, and clocked out at the same time (Chung). They worked as if they were part of
the machine (Chung). In modern times employee s work within office buildings similar to assembly
line workers they have a fixed schedule and work towards the ultimate goal of the organization
(Chung). In modern days corporations are considering the benefits of a flexible work schedule because
it can contribute to a successful work life balance by enriching families, improving an employee s
health and improving production. Modern technology such as cell phones, tablets, and computers
permits a more flexible work schedule because it allows employees to stay connected to the office
even if they are miles away (Chung).
Alternative work schedule are schedules does not fit the 8 hr day, 40 hr week definition (Baltes et al.
496). Some examples of common alternative work schedules include flexible working hours,
compressed work weeks, part time, and telecommuting (Baltes et al. 496). Alternative work schedules,
such as flextime and compressed work weeks, have been adopted by many organizations over the past
several decades (Baltes et al. 496). A recent report that surveyed 1,035

An Analysis of the Australian Curriculum
Introduction
With the introduction of the Australian National Curriculum into all education systems across the
country, many questions and debates have occurred in reference to its effectiveness. From the often
perceived conflicting curriculum definitions to the unfortunate failures of past attempts of curriculum
implementation, every member of the community has an opinion on this significant shift in the way
Australia thinks of its children s education (Rudd, 2007). The Australian Curriculum however, has
attempted to provide answers to these misgivings and societal concern, from an easy to use website
interface, transparent developmental process and state/ territory inclusion of common educational
individualities. The Australian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Australian political structure and the level of authority the federal government has over
state/territory and independent organisations over educational policy, may have been a contributing
factor for this lack of committed development and intended eventual nationwide implementation
(Marsh, 2010). Learning from previous governments attempts implementing a national curriculum, the
federal government from 2009, enacted a series of shaping reforms, with the aim of successfully
gaining support and legal authority over the implementation of a national curriculum (Marsh, 2010).
The request for state/territory appointed representatives, statements of open consultation in
development, through to what Brady and Kennedy (2010) refer to as hard policy , including the
establishment of ACARA as a statutory body over all manner of educational policy and the linking of
funding repercussions to the implementation of the Australian Curriculum (Schools Assistance Bill,
National Education Agreement) has led to all educational organisations agreeing to the use of the
impending curriculum documents.
Brady and Kennedy (2010) state that no single form of curriculum model is commonly used by
developers, therefore using specific components of different models and designing a process that
works for the organisation or individuals intent. As such the Australian Curriculum developers

Compare And Contrast Goblin Market And The Lady Shalott
Very Tempting
During the 1800s, women were completely controlled by the men in their lives. Most of their fathers
controlled their lives in order to find them a good spouse. They had to behave a well manner to not be
looked down as a harlot or a slut. In Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti, the writer uses the goblins
as men tempting to give two woman sexual pleasure. In Alfred Tennyson s The Lady Shalott , he uses
an imprison woman to show how woman were supposed to behave in the 1800s. Both Rossetti and
Tennyson poems focus on temptation in woman society the Victorian era, however the temptation
leads to different outcome to depict readers that it could either cause good fortune or death. In the

The writer show how the lady was being locked in a tower to be protected from temptation. Flowing
down to Camelot./ Four gray walls, and four gray towers/ Overlook a space of flowers,/ And the silent
isle imbowers/ The Lady of Shalott./ Underneath the bearded barley,/ The reaper, reaping late and
early,/ Hears her ever chanting cheerly,/Like an angel, singing clearly(15 21). The locking away of the
lady represents the protection of her purity and innocence by her family or society. This let readers
understand how Tennyson see woman being treated in society during that era. Tennyson uses her
purity being locked away cause by a powerful male figure or by a dominant society as a whole. The
writer bring up a conflict in the poem, being that the lady was cursed but didn t know what the curse
was No time hath she to sport and play:/ A charmed web she weaves alway./A curse is on her, if she
stay/Her weaving, either night or day,/ To look down to Camelot./She knows not what the curse may

with little joy or fear./ Over the water, running near,/ The sheepbell tinkles in her ear./ Before her

  • 2. The Cockatoucan Theme [If] you make me the Princess s governess, I ll see what I can do... (177) the little girl asks the hopeless King. In The Cockatoucan by E. Nesbit, compiled in Neil Gaiman s Unnatural Creatures, the narrator draws attention to gender and age inequality. Overcoming various obstacles, the protagonist demonstrates her maturity throughout the journey, where she chooses to make decisions for the sake of the kingdom of Green Land. Saving the kingdom from the unnatural creature, the girl s actions and maturity serve as a platform in addressing today s public affairs. In the light of these social issues, I will argue that Nesbit imposes on the themes of voyage and return and coming of age to show how a young girl can mature and gain wisdom through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Matilda is portrayed as a female child heroine, Colin Manlove implies that Nesbit suggests that the capabilities of female children are underestimated in his journal article entitled Fantasy as Witty Conceit In this journal article, Manlove critiques that there are two sides of Nesbit the realist and the supernaturalist ...where magic is given a colloquial and comic face, and is brought into contact with very human children (126). This implies that the direct audience are those oppressed by society s double standards, especially female children, and the indirect audience are those who ridicule the capabilities of the oppressed. The story draws attention to social issues ( realist ) by assimilating fantasy fiction ( supernaturalist ). In this case, female children are belittled due to their age and gender. Since gender bias is also an issue, professors, who published the journal article Gender Differences in Children s Hero Attributions, observe that boys were expected to endorse heroes for their ability to act on the world (instrumental attributes) and for their wealth or fame (prestige) more than girls (Holub et al. 569). This alludes that the gender gap does not only apply to adults, but also children. Through their observations, the professors found that there is an underlying bias towards male heroes over female heroes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Disease Resistance and the Immune Modulatory Effects on... Numerous studies have assessed the feasibility and effectiveness of supplementing aquafeeds with a variety of potentially probiotic bacteria, but probably the most well documented are LAB [41]. Among LAB, lactobacilli strains have been the focus of much interest. Since, the immune system modulation strongly dependent on the metabolites they produce, such as proteolysis, could release peptides that may (or may not) interact with immune cells to induce distinct immunomodulatory response [42]. Though only few strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), especially Lactobacillus, have been isolated from marine environments, their unique characteristics have proved that there is clear potential to use them as probiotics with advanced health benefits [43]. To the best of our knowledge, the present investigation was the first report on disease resistance and the immune modulatory effects on Nile Tilapia using dietary supplemented with marine LAB. Therefore, the present work selected the most promising marine LAB isolated from Egyptian marine samples and evaluated its effect(s) on innate immunity and disease resistance of Nile Tilapia fish during 50 days feeding trial. Based on the physiological characteristics, using API 50 CHL, it is pointed out that the selected isolate R1 is Lactobacillus plantarum. Furthermore, antimicrobial activities induced by Lb. plantarum against the fish pathogen, A. hydrophila, could be attributed to the fact that lactobacillus bacteria can be stimulated to ... • 5. The Importance Of Making Valid Decision And Strategizing... 1 I still remember the days in my universities as if it were yesterday. In those days I worked with lot of national and international organizations, which are working in varied sectors and bringing change by modern methodologies. In second year of my under graduate, I founded a Non Governmental Organization named Fep Si (Forum for Empowering people through Social Innovation and Entertainment) and worked with another organization named Alexis Foundation as research associate for designing public policy driven by Big Data. From the experiences of working in these organizations I learnt about the importance of making valid decision and strategizing on business, polity and market front by providing accurate and up to date information and performing data driven decision making at minor level. On the other hand exposure of working with United Nations Envoy on Youth also helped me in evolving as a leader who has the quality of thinking analytically towards global problems. During these days I have felt many times that a lot of these problems can be solved by integrating computer technology into data collection and management of resources, energy, capital and various other things which are generally done by old methodologies. These instances motivated me to believe that in the complex and interconnected world of international business and its strategizing, the science of information management is ever more important. My interest in analytical thinking and science dates back to my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Role Did The Power Play In The Battle Of Hastings William became Duke of Normandy at age eight when his father died; however, people questioned his power of authority because his parents were not technically married. This empowerment brought upon many issues early on. Nevertheless, the battles started when William was agreed under the table to succeed as the next of King of England. With no witnesses or documentation proving this agreement, Harold Earl of Essex took reign after King Edward s death. This power move infuriated William, which created tension and provoked William. In1066, William and his troops set sail to invade England. They fought with lances, swords and mace (Lambert). The battle of Hastings was the first of many battles for the William. In the famous Battle of Hastings both Harold and his brother were killed; therefore, William the crowned himself king. His conquest of power did not stop there. William marched into several other countries including Scotland and France with intentions to win authority. He continued conquering lands surrounding England and distributed a portion to Norman followers. This was when William developed the feudal system, which gave Barons authority under the King s rule. The Baron s then split their land up giving sections to Knights who rented their land out to serfs. This idea of feudal allowed William to have control over these manors. • 9. Eyewitness Retention Consistent Evidence For An Offense Denisha Poplus Beth Duncan En 102 7 July 2015 Are Eyewitness Retention Consistent Evidence For An Offense? The memory of an eyewitness has always been an endless dispute throughout the narration of its existence. The word of an individual holds the most substance; it s the only real thing of value that person hold, having a witness of a crime is a criminal s vilest nightmare. There is a phrase that may have been heard in movies and reality, eyewitness do not live too long. This phrase has range amongst people revealing the reputation of eye witnessing for the majority and jury. All evidence used to convict a person has to go through a vigilant examination process especially the testimony of an eyewitness. So much emphasis is put on a truthful and accurate testimony because there has been a false testimony, which cause consequences and complications. Criminal justice systems should demand their district to notice there is an occurrence of bad witness memory, because the brain will juggle and play games with the hauler. Predominantly, the mix up happens because of the perception particularities the individuals mind has mad up and the original information. Memory is simply the development of perception, how the brain process what is seen and reproduces it later. Since there is a chance that the reproduction of once memory will be wrong that makes it essential to the individual does not damage the facts. This accentuates the stress on the knowledge of the eyewitness well being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Premises Liability Case Trip and fall or slip and fall cases are also referred to a premises liability. A claim such as this generally arises due to a defect in the property s floor that causes an individual to trip or slip and fall. The act of tripping or slipping on someone s property does not automatically trigger liability. The fact that the defect exists is irrelevant unless evidence establishes that the property owner was aware of the defect and neglected to fix it. The question in an Illinois liability claim is notice. Because notice is the most important issue in a premises liability case, the definition of notice is difficult to define; however, there are standards that the court has set to assist lawyers and their claimants to determine whether a premises liability case exits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, if a defect is not obvious or only appears under certain conditions obtaining adequate pictures for evidence may be challenging. No previous complaints or prior inspections of the property also make establishing defects difficult. In situations such as this, the attorney will conduct an investigation to determine whether or not the property owner should have been aware of the defect responsible for causing the slip and fall. Defining Notice Notice refers to what a property owner knows or should have known at the time of the incident. One of the classic notice situations involves a property owner knowing about a defect, but neglects to fix it. Evidence must be presented showing the number of times an owner was informed of the defect and ignored it. Exceptions to Premises Liability Claims The Illinois courts have ruled that water tracked into a property by visitors on a rainy day is a natural occurrence; therefore, a property owner is not considered liable in the event of a slip and fall. In addition, a property owner is not liable if a slip and fall is caused by other natural occurrences, for example ice and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Hotel On The Corner Of Bitter And Sweet Summary The novel Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, is a unique story. In the story, we learn about Henry on two fronts of his life, the younger, twelve year old Henry during 1942, as well as forty year old Henry in 1986. The story is about a love that surpasses time and distance. We follow Henry and his life as young Chinese American boy attending a mainly white school on a scholarship. As a young boy, Henry feels out of place since he barely speaks with his own parents, due to the fact that his father wants him to speak his American, and also because he does not have many friends except for Sheldon, a street player. As as older man, Henry also has a hard time communicating with his own son, Marty, even more after the death of his wife, Ethel. Then Henry sees the Panama Hotel that had been once boarded up decades ago during WWII. During his scholarship at Rainier Elementary in 1942, a Japanese girl named Keiko joins him in his class. Together, the two of them form a bond on the fact that they are outcasts in their school for being different. Though, Henry s father looks down on his friendship with Keiko since he views Japanese people as the enemy, and so he disowns Henry for his relationship with a Japanese girl. This of course causes the canyon between Henry and his father to widen. Even as the U.S. executes order 9066, sending all Japanese Americans in the West coast to concentration camps, Henry and Keiko still manage to keep their relationship. But as their letters ... They were able to harness the supply of rainfall and the desert springs to the extent that they had enough water for 100,00 people. They accomplished this through an intricate system of cisterns, pools and waterways that captured and transported an estimated twelve million gallons of fresh spring water daily. • 13. Supply And Demand For Real Estate INTRODUCTION Within the property industry, the ever changing nature of the real estate market is affecting supply and demand for real estate. As a result, a key issue stemming from reducing demand is increasing office vacancy in Brisbane s central business district which reached a high of 15.6% in January 2015, according to the Property Council of Australia (2015). Current literature suggests that the lack of demand can be attributed to negative net absorption by the government and resources sectors, office over supply, low business confidence and high unemployment rates (Property Council of Australia 2015). Disney Cruise Line takes advantage of the rhetorical appeal of kairos to get people to go on their cruises. One of the ways they use kairos is through the description of their new cruise. The company states, For the first time in the summer of 2014, Disney Cruise Line sails to Europe with over a dozen ports of call dotting the sunny Mediterranean, (Disney Cruise Line 24). Disney appeals to kairos by pointing out the fact that this is the first time they are offering this type of cruise. People are often more eager to go on vacations if they believe they are going to be some of the first people to have that experience. Disney utilizes this idea of being the first to make their new customers feel more special and their returning customers feel obligated to try out the new cruise for the first time. The Disney Cruise Line again appeals to kairos in the same way about their new Alaskan cruise. They state, We now also offer an Alaskan cruise that includes historic Sitka, (Disney Cruise Line 4). They again appeal to the idea that this cruise is brand new and that the readers will be more eager to try a new cruise. Over the course of the entire booklet, the Disney Cruise Line attaches the word new to several statements. For example, the cruise line offers all new enhancements and all new watery play areas (Disney Cruise Line 5). In doing using the word new, the company gets the customer more excited about going on the cruise making them believe that they will be the first to try out the additions. It is well known that people are drawn to new things, and Disney takes full advantage of this concept by attaching the word new to whatever statement they can. According to Bevans the importance of this dialogue is that the contextual theology that rises is unique. Unfortunately, the constant threat of this model is that gospel and Tradition can be watered down and lose their prophetic nature. As consequence of being diluted and losing its identity, the gospel may also lose its transforming power. The Transcendental Model This model is the most difficult to understand. Because, though it seems very anthropological, it is contingent to an inner human experience. This model depends on affective and cognitive events. In other words, reality is not something external to be grasped, but it is within ourselves. However, though in the beginning this exercise seems to rely on a personal or individual activity, this model is highly communal. Thus, these transcendental events are generated through the person s interaction with the community. In this model, the closer the person is to his/her local culture the more prepare s/he will be to theologize. This model opens the way for what Schreiter calls the poet or local voices.
