Amelioration of safety management in infrastructure projectsIJERA Editor
Accidents are a major public health concern, resulting in an estimated 1.2 million deaths and 50 million injuries
worldwide each year specifically, the relationships between drivers' characteristics and road accidents are not
fully understood. Many factors are involved in the accident occurrence at construction site. Some important
elements that create a significant portion of accidents include: safety management error, poor training programs,
human element, act of god, outdated procedure and no clear monitoring policy. Although some of these items
are inevitable, but the occurrence of the largest part can be prevented. Therefore, for ameliorating the safety in a
project each of these items should be analyzed and a practical approach introduced. In general, near miss,
incident and accident are three dependent levels that mainly lead to injury. Risk and hazard are allocated in first
level which means near miss, therefore, no on-time identification of hazard and risk causes to create incident
and preventing accident in incident stage is unavoidable.
The occupational accidents are not standardized to rating the risk factors for timely execution of infrastructures. Particularly, developing countries do not have guided information on their accidents due to safety, health and environment which are lack of proper systems. The number of accidents occurring in each infrastructures construction projects are not projected and published in Nepal. Training, awarding for the workers is not done or not effective. Safety engineers along with the workers need to aware to every construction project is not yet started. Project owner, consultant and contractors must be responsible along with the construction safety act which must be promulgated as soon as possible to response the Health, Safety and Environment risks. Safety engineering and prosperous Nepal are two side of same coin. By ignoring safety engineering to achieve prospers Nepal and happy Nepali is baseless dream .There would be lot of chances to inviting the risk factors which can lose much more.
Health and Safety in the Construction Industry in Catanduanes, PhilippinesDr. Amarjeet Singh
The Island Province of Catanduanes is gaining grounds in the field of construction. The program of the current administration “Build, Build, Build” have taken the construction industry to full blast. Construction, both private and public are evident on every corners of the island. Occupational Safety and Health in construction is often neglected and disregarded. Construction is the one of the most dangerous sectors in health and safety. The government, thru the Department of Labor and Employment had already address the problem by providing safety and health training to the personnel of the construction firm as well as the industry as a whole. But the effort has been far from satisfactory, as construction accident continue to dominate the entire industry. The study aims to awareness of construction safety in Catanduanes. The study focuses on the awareness of workers in construction industry in Catanduanes on Occupational Safety and Health. From the series of interviews and interaction with the workers on site, and upon evaluation of their responses, the researcher finally come up with the conclusion that, the construction workers are aware of the safety and health in constructions but they do not adhere and follow it. Workers admittedly that the reason they are complaisant about following safety and health practices are discomfort, beliefs, and bad habits. The following recommendation were sought based on the results of the interview; 1. Workers must attend or be trained with safety and health. A training that would enable them to understand the safety and health issues and concerns, 2. Workers must be taught with correct attitude towards safety in workplace, 3. They must taught of right things contrary to their old beliefs, 4. Workers must developed good habit and positive outlook in terms of their safety and well-being.
Safety management Issues in construction industry of BangladeshTanjin Tamanna urmi
Despite of being a developing country Bangladesh has investment in construction industry which includes commercial, residential and multipurpose building projects etc. Workplace safety is a significant global issue, and in particular, the construction industry is over represented in workplace injury and death statistics
uction safety has been achieved, the industry still continues to lag behind most other industries with regard to safety. The construction safety of any organization consists of employee’s attitudes towards and perceptions of, health and safety
behaviour. Construction workers attitudes towards safety are influenced by their perceptions of risk, management, safety rules
and procedures. A measure of safety could be used to identify those areas of safety that need more attention and improvement.
The aim of the study was to identify factors in the safety management that any lead project success. these factors influence
construction safety. In this project questionnaire is framed to find safety in major organisations. data is collected on the basis
of questionnaire. Employees of various construction firm are interviewed. Collected data is analysed statistically. this analysis
is show the safety environment among organisation. it also gives suggestion to improve safety at construction site.
Construction industry before and after pandemicvivatechijri
: Since the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the coronavirus2019 (COVID-19) outbreak
as a pandemic, many countries have declared a complete national lockdown after a remarkable spike in COVID
19 cases. These decisions have restricted the movement of people and resulted in a complete shutdown of many
businesses across many sectors. The construction industry, as a significant growth driver of the economy with no
exception, has also been completely shut down. All the developments and projects were postponed until further
notice. It is, therefore, a prudent to address the impact of the pandemic at the outset and end of the crisis to
prepare for any future possibility and gain lessons for plans. This study aims to investigate the effect of COVID 19
on the construction industry’s survival. The impacts and fallout have been determined and evaluated through the
recruitment of construction experts and practitioners. The impacts have been classified into different groups
which include economic, human resources. The study implied two methods include exploratory interviews and
questionnaire surveys. The study found the most prominent impacts of COVID 19 are the suspension of projects,
labour impact and job loss, time overrun, cost overrun, and financial implications. The findings of this study shed
light on the consequences of the sudden occurrence of pandemic and raise awareness of the most critical impacts
which can’t be overlooked. The findings also help project stakeholders to realise the sequences of the sudden
epidemic and prepare for the worst-case scenario during the planning stage of the construction projects. The
problem for the construction and engineering sector in India is aggravated and difficult to address as there is no
standard form or format for contracts followed by the industry. To say that the companies engaged in the
construction and engineering sector, would be affected due to the current unprecedented situation would be an
understatement. The various restrictions put in place by the Governments to control the effects of the virus may
trigger shortage of raw material and manpower, disrupted supply chain, further creating handicaps in performing
contractual obligations. Contraction in consumption demand should be the least of the worries for the sector.
Some elements in construction and engineering are imported from countries, which may be more badly affected,
creating a domino effect on the entire sector

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

3. 1. Introduction
3.1 General
Health and safety are the responsibility of everyone at
work.
Construction industry, in general, is comparatively less
organized and involves participation of major percentage of
unskilled labor as compared to other industrial sectors.
As a major employment generator in many parts of the
world, construction is also a sector associated with a
proportionately high number of job-related accidents and
diseases.
Despite mechanization, the industry is still largely labor-
intensive, while working environments are frequently
changing and involve many different parties.
HU, iOT, Construction Management, Lecture Notes,Marchl 2015, Dagnachew Adugna
4. 1. Introduction
3.1 General
It is of particular importance to the construction industry,
where it is one of the major employers of the work force in
Ethiopia.
Statistics indicate that injuries and death due to
construction related accidents are increasing.
According to ILO estimates:
Each year there are at least 60,000 fatal accidents on
construction sites around the world.
In many industrialized countries, as many as 25% to 40% of
work-related deaths are occurred in on construction sites,
even though the sector employees only 6% to 10% of the
workforce.
In some countries, it is estimated that 30% of construction
workers suffer from back pains or other muscular disorders.
HU, iOT, Construction Management, Lecture Notes,Marchl 2015, Dagnachew Adugna
5. 1. Introduction
3.1 General
Accidents are generally unavoidable in construction
projects but the number and gravity of accidents can be
reduced considerably if proper safety measures are taken
beforehand.
Health and safety in the context of construction industry
are the discipline of preserving the health of those who
build, operate, maintain and demolish engineering works,
and others involved in those works.
The term safety generally applies to the protection from
risk of injury and from avoidable accidents.
The term health refers to the well-being from the
immediate and long-term effects of exposure to unhealthy
working condition.
HU, iOT, Construction Management, Lecture Notes,Marchl 2015, Dagnachew Adugna
6. 1. Introduction
3.1 General
Health and safety are not only confined to construction
works on-site.
Engineers, architects and surveyors are exposed to
hazards during the investigatory stage of a project and
while carrying out inspection tasks during the construction
phase and on completed works.
Designers, in particular, carry both a moral responsibility
and a duty of care for the safety of construction works,
maintenance staff, demolition workers and the general
public.
HU, iOT, Construction Management, Lecture Notes,Marchl 2015, Dagnachew Adugna
7. 1. Introduction
1.2 Problem of Safety and Health
Construction industry accidents in Ethiopia have not been well
recorded. Nevertheless, it is reported that many people lost their
lives on construction sites and many more seriously injured.
Not only are construction workers who suffer injuries and death
but also people and children who are not employed in the
industry.
Besides human tragedies, accidents could substantial economic
cost to the industry due to the fact it could also cause:
Damage to plant and equipment;
Damage to work already completed;
Loss of productive work time while debris is cleared and
damaged work rebuilt;
Increased insurance premiums; and
Loss of confidence and reputation.
HU, iOT, Construction Management, Lecture Notes,Marchl 2015, Dagnachew Adugna
8. 2. Health and Safety Practices
2.1 International Practices
Considering the importance of health and safety of
construction workers in the industry, different countries
have designed their own norms, which fit their specific
objectives.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) provides
specific guidelines on health and safety in construction
activities.
The general objectives of health and safety norms/codes in
any country construction industry can be summarized as:
To help prevent accidents and harmful effects on the
health of those employed in construction industry.
HU, iOT, Construction Management, Lecture Notes,Marchl 2015, Dagnachew Adugna

concerned government authority, employer's
organization and worker's organization in the
improvement of safety and health in the construction
industry.
HU, iOT, Construction Management, Lecture Notes,Marchl 2015, Dagnachew Adugna
10. 2. Health and Safety Practices
2.2 Domestic/Local Practices
In the case of Ethiopia, the Ministry of Labor and Social
Affairs is authorized by law for the full responsibility of
consulting, monitoring and other works related to
occupational health and safety topics.
Even though it is difficult to obtain accurate statistics since
many accidents go undetected and unreported, the number
of construction accidents occurring in Ethiopia, is
increasing from time to time.
In constructions under-taken in Ethiopia, the construction
contract agreement (i.e.) General Conditions of Contract
(clause 21 - 25) and FIDIC (clause 19 - 25) states the
responsibilities of the involved parties. These are like
provisions of insurance, taking other safety measures, etc.
