Why Is Marilyn Monroe A Mystery
Red lipstick. Bombshell blonde hair. Holding down a white dress. Iconic. Marilyn Monroe was icon
known by people all over the world. She was widely known for her iconic picture of her holding down
the front of her white dress when the wind blew up the grate. She quickly became the sex symbol of
the 60 s. But her death is still a mystery. The mystery of Marilyn Monroe is surrounded by two
theories: the Kennedy family had her killed or she died of a suicidal drug overdose.
Marilyn Monroe was an internationally known actress and star whose actions and whereabouts were
always known, but the death of the star is still a mystery. Even the time of her death is unknown.
There is no solid evidence what time she died. At 11 p.m August 4, Monroe was supposedly found
dead by her publicist Arthur Jacobs. But Marilyn s doctor wasn t called to the house until 3:40 a.m, 10
minutes after she was discovered at 3:30 a.m by her housekeeper (Newton 245). When the found
Monroe she was lying face down, naked on her bed with her phone in her hand ( Marilyn Monroe is

She was an abused alcoholic with severe depression, so it wouldn t be completely out of character

depression pills all over her room ( Marilyn Monroe ). In an autopsy report done on her, a fatal
amount of sedatives were in her system ( Marilyn Monroe ). Some of those sedatives being chloral
hydrate and nembutal in her liver (Newton 245). People weren t completely surprised to hear this.
Marilyn had overdosed on multiple occasions before and had to be resuscitated a few times ( The

The Death Of The Thief
He was focused on what he had to do; he d planned carefully, and this train ride was the last leg to
freedom with a half million dollars. The thief didn t need the money in the sense that most people
would need the money. He had bank accounts in several banks around the world. His lowest balance
was a little over 3 million dollars. This last deposit would be more than 4 million dollars, maybe even
closer to 6 million if he found the right buyer. He had decided it was time to retire, though, and he
didn t want to change his lifestyle. He was healthy, and not that old, so he needed a good nest egg to
retire comfortably. As he sat on the train that night, he thought about the statue he carried in his bag.

Malcolm X Essay
February 21, 1965. A man in Manhattan s Audubon Ballroom was shot 15 times by 3 gun men
associated with the Nation of Islam. Who was this man? Malcolm X, an 8th grade drop with a dead
dad and a mentally unstable mom who started with a life of crime, but after learning about Islam, had
a new outlook on things. An Ironic quote from Malcolm X is [If you re not ready to die for it, take the
word freedom out of your vocabulary]. Malcolm X, a devout Muslim, who saw the injustices in the
Muslim African American community, used his voice to fight for equality and freedom.

During his imprisonment, Malcolm used the time to further his education. Sometimes Malcolm s

the teaching of the NOI s (Nation of Islam) current leader at the time, Elijah Muhammad while in

A Brief Note On Burns And Its Effects On Victims
Definition and pathogenesis Burns are regarded as one of the most hazardous occupational and house
hold risks. They cause a catastrophic influence and impact on victims. The impact and effects of burns
ranges from mild to severe, while as the primary influence and effects of burns, occur in terms such as
suffering, disability, financial loss and death of victims. According to the Royal children s Hospital
(2016), minor burns are the most sustained types of burns and in most instances, they occur as a result
of household activities. Occupational and work related burns account for all serious burns witnessed
within a local healthcare district. Cleland (2012) states that people of all ages and occupations are
susceptible to burns. However, women and children are most susceptible to minor burns. Minor burns
are also described as superficial or first degree burns. They damage the superficial lay of the skin
making the burnt area turn red and significantly painful. Blisters are likely to occur in case first aid
services are not adequately or timely offered. They are mainly brought about by contact with hot
fluids, objects, corrosive chemicals, exposure to scotching sun rays, steam and hot furnace surfaces.
The causes of burns and scalds are varied and ranges from hold fluids, chemical burns, electrical
burns, excessive scotch from the sun, and contact with hot surfaces. In most instances, minor burns are
mild and do not require medical treatment (Hudspith Rayatt, 2014).

Therefore, the key to success lies in alleviating these critical issues. Literature search reveals that up to

Cognitive Dissonance In Early Childhood Education
Cognitive dissonance is the internal state that arises when either an attitude and behavior or two
attitudes conflict. The resulting psychological discomfort remains until subjects can reach consonance
between the two. They reach consonance by changing an attitude, rationalizing a behavior, or
undervaluing the importance of the discrepant attitude. Balcetis Dunning (2007) investigated whether
cognitive dissonance influenced subjects visual perception of natural environments. In two judgment
tasks, the researchers manipulated the degree to which subjects felt that they had freely chosen to
participate in an aversive task. Those in the first study donned a Carmen Miranda costume and walked
the length of a school courtyard, while subjects in the second study used a skateboard to push
themselves uphill. High choice subjects experienced more dissonance than did their low choice and
control condition counterparts. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could induce cognitive dissonance to alter elementary school children s perception of the external
world specifically, of their classrooms. With these studies in mind, I propose that teachers employ the
free choice paradigm to compel students to complete tedious classroom chores. They could create
small lists of chores for each student, and then allow the student to choose a task from that list to
complete. Student would develop dissonance from the discrepancy between the presumably
unpleasant nature of the chores and the belief that they had freely chosen to participate. They would
then reduce this dissonance by misperceiving the chore s aversive nature. For example, the child
cleaning up Legos might view the mess as smaller than it actually is, while the child putting away
picture books might report there being are fewer books to gather than in reality. Such a procedure
would make classroom cleanup an easier ordeal for both students and

Reinhard Heydrich Research Paper
Reinhard Heydrich known as The Blond Beast or Hangman Heydrich was born in the German city of
Halle, near Leipzig on March 7,1904 he was the second of three children .When Heydrich was six
months old he suffered an inflammation of the brain that could ve killed him, as well as a few other
illnesses that were life threatening. In order to overcome this, his father motivated him to take up as
many sports as possible such as running, horse riding, football, swimming, and fencing. Heydrich was
raised in a musical background. He had a strong love for the violin. So Heydrich did what any
enthusiast would do, he trained seriously and eventually developed an expert skill for it, as well as a

Why Is The Good Earth Relatable
Pearl S. Buck s novel, The Good Earth, has spellbound millions of readers around the globe for
generations. The Good Earth is about a simple peasant named Wang Lung, who gains fortune over the
course of his life. The New York times said of it, A comment on the meaning and tragedy of life as it is
lived in any corner of the globe. But what makes this book so good; why is it enjoyed by so many
people around the world? Some might say that it s the writing, or even the subject of the story. These
are both true, but there is something that impacts the story more, and that is the ability to relate. The
Good Earth is about a simple man,a peasant, someone people can relate to. This is why The Good
Earth is relatable to the entire world, to so many that walk upon it.
The first reason why The Good Earth is so relatable is because is because it shows the life of a simple
farmer turned rich man. Wang Lung, in the beginning of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wang Lung s life is a roller coaster, it has ups and downs. In the story, Wang Lung goes from poor
farmer, to well off, to a very poor beggar, to a very rich man in a very rich house. He does not earn
everything in a linear path throughout his life. Sometimes he loses, sometimes he gains. That is the
way life is as well; it s a mystery. No one knows what is going to happen; no one can predict the
future. If Wang Lung keeps gaining throughout his life, and never suffers a loss, that wouldn t
accurately represent real life, and it would no longer be as relatable. He would no longer be this man
that we can all relate to, no longer like a real person. He would become just another character from a
book, with nothing to set him apart from the rest. Him going through life the way he does shows that
he is not some sort of fairy tale character in a fictional world with a happily ever after, he goes through
real problems in the real world, just like you and I

The Used Car
In this negotiation, I played the role of the buyer of the car, Mazda MX – 6 from Francesco, who
played the role of the seller. The task involved negotiating for the right price for the used car.
When I was planning for the negotiation the most important criteria was that the car must certainly
have all those specifications which the 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport was offering. That is, an air
conditioning, AM/FM stereo, 6 cylinder engine and the mileage should be the same or more than the
Jeep. Also, I had firmly decided to buy the Mazda under all circumstances and not go in for the jeep,
as it would certainly turn out to be a better proposition than the jeep. Moreover, I had mentally
prepared myself for the fact that looking at the gravity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Francesco made the first offer in this negotiation process of $8000, as mentioned earlier. I think it does
matter as to who puts the first offer because the first offer has a direct impact on your opponent. If
your first offer is extremely inflated, the other person thinks on the higher side and may close the deal
at a higher price than what he had thought of initially. However, if your offer is low, the other person
will try to manipulate you in such a way that he may tend to close the deal at even a lower price that
what he had aspired for. Therefore, I would always like my opponent to make the first offer so that he
does not get pre conceived notions about me and is not able to manipulate me to a great

Essay about Beauty and the Beast
Beaumont vs Disney: A Comparative Look into a Classic Fairy tales and stories are something that has
been around since the beginning of time. Tales were passed down from generation to generation, and
in the case of fairy tales, these stories were not at first geared towards any age group, but instead for
anyone, for entertainment purposes. Growing up, one of my favorite tales was Beauty and the Beast. If
you ask children if they know this story, I would guarantee almost one hundred percent of them
would. However, I m sure the story they would know is that of the Disney version. In my lifetime, the
majority of fairy tales I know are the Disney version. There is more than just Disney s version of
Beauty and the Beast, for example, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beaumont does not mention these characters and we find Beauty not falling in love and liking him as
quickly as in Disney. Both stories invoke a child s imagination, either with the addition of these live
castle objects or merely the presence of something magical which the child can then come up with
their own images. By doing this, the child fits unconscious content into conscious fantasies, which
then enable him to deal with that content. It is here that fairy tales have unequaled value, because they
offer new dimensions to the child s imagination which would be impossible for him to discover as
truly on his own. Even more important, the form and structure of fairy tales suggest images to the
child by which he can structure his daydreams and with them give better direction to his life
(Bettleheim 7). In another area, the differences in characters add to some differences in the plot. With
the Disney version, which people mostly relate to, the Prince is turned into the Beast by an
enchantress when he shows his selfishness. It is said that if the Prince could learn to love and be loved
in return before the last enchanted rose petal fell, then the castle s spell would be gone (Disney 2). The
difference in the roses in both stories was that Beaumont s Beast had a garden of roses in which he
told the merchant, I value more than anything I possess (Beaumont 24). In Disney, the Beast has one
rose, in a

New Public Management ( Npm )
New Public Management (NPM) was developed in response to some criticisms of the public sector.
One of them is to make the public sector more financially accountable since they need to demonstrate
to the government who provides them funding, that the money is being put into good use. They also
need to ensure efficient resource allocation (Peyton) because resources are limited yet there is an
increase in expectations and demands. For example, number of public hospitals and medical expertise
may be insufficient to meet the public s demand. This is because government feel compelled to ensure
that everyone can access healthcare and is therefore, provided at a low cost. The problem is made
worse due to the growth of private hospitals, where quality of services is regarded as superior to
public hospitals. The public medical sector is thus under great pressure to improve service quality and
efficiency.
It is said that the new public management reforms have made public sector organisations more
calculable and accountable. First of all, it is important to define these terms. Calculable means the
ability to measure and assess the worth of something. In our context, it often means putting monetary
value on tangibles and intangibles. Accountable means being held responsible for actions taken and
the ability to answer to those who are involved in the process. Accountability can be towards donors
(upwards) or towards beneficiaries (downwards). In order to investigate this statement

The Effect Of Income Levels On The Investment Choices...
4.3 Results for Objective #2 Whether RRSP is better for high income earners
Based on our data collected, we have compiled tables and graphs in order to visually represent our
selected data and to test our hypothesis. Since our main objective of this research paper is to determine
the effect of income levels on the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA, the sample from
investors with both and neither plans were excluded when testing the hypothesis in order to isolate the
variables that we wanted to test. Therefore only 79 participants would be considered when examining
whether RRSP is better for high income investors. The investment options of these 79 participants
were shown as Illustration 4.3.1 as below. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After removing those sample we were left with 79 participants who either chose TFSA or RRSP for
their retirement savings. For this test we used a significant level of 5%. With the degree of freedom of
77 and a 5% significance level we arrived at a t value of 1.990 and 1.990. Since our calculated t
critical value of 1.019 does not fall into the rejection region of 1.990 and 1.990 we have concluded
that we do not reject the null hypothesis, shown as Illustration 4.3.6 as below.
Chapter 5 Major Findings and Discussion
The purpose of the survey was to determine whether there is a relationship between investors income
level and their investment options of RRSP and TFSA. Our literature review suggested that investors
with higher income would be more favourable when choosing RRSP rather than TFSA. The null
hypothesis was structured assuming there is no relationship between the income level and the
investment choices between RRSP and TFSA. Based on the t test we conducted using SPSS, we do
not reject the null hypothesis (H0), which suggests that with a significance level of 5% we cannot
conclude that the investors that chose RRSP had a higher income than the investors who chose TFSA.
Therefore, the test result turned out to be different from what we have concluded from the literature
review.

Case Study Of Demand For Fresh Potatoes
Demand for Fresh Potatoes:
Given the lack of reliable production and consumption data these are illustrative estimates only. Future
demand is derived using projected population statistics of 2002. The population in 2002 was 25
million and the population growth between 1991 2002 was 3.2 %, and by 2015 the projected
population growth as per an estimate would rise to 35 million. We also assume that potato demand
equals supply as there is no external potato trade between Uganda and other
Countries in the region. This would mean that any impact achieved through the adoption of new
Technologies, improved marketing or accelerated urbanisation would increase demand levels.
Assuming that with current growth of investments opportunities in Uganda and more FDI to flow in

The City Of A Mid Size City
The crosswalk in this city is typical of a mid size city. Small businesses line the busy street, and with
people eager to get to their destination, a combination of sights, sounds and smells unites to form this
crosswalk.
This city s intersection is lively with the commonplace sights of businesses, people and vehicles. On a
sunny and breezy afternoon, three Eastern and Western based businesses, on the far left, line up one
after another vying for attention from potential patrons. In the middle, the sidewalk is filled with an
array of people. At the forefront of the sidewalk there are three people that are on the edge of the
crosswalk. To the left, a medium build, middle aged white female with long black hair is about to
cross the crosswalk. She is wearing black shoes, a black dress and a white short sleeved blouse. Some
people would refer to this as business casual. Around her neck is a lanyard that appears to be carrying
an identification badge. She is holding a rolled up, brown lunch bag in her left hand. While on her cell
phone, she walks forward and looks downward as to shield her eyes. During her walk, her hair is

The Is A Philosophical Theme Taught By Epicurus
Epicureanism is a philosophical theme taught by Epicurus, this theme that stresses the goal of a joyful
and a pleasurable life. In the Hellenistic Age, epicureanism was extremely influential. Epicurus, the
founder of Epicureanism, is best known for his different personality, unlike all the other ancient
philosophers, excluding Socrates (O Keefe). Epicurus accumulated a group of disciples and taught
them, after that he became known as the philosophy of the Garden. The wisdom theory, epicureanism,
is a form of the hedonism theory that describes different types of pleasure, different types of desires,
the virtues, the importance of friendship, and death. Epicureanism is a philosophical theory that is a
form of hedonism. Epicurus once said, That the only thing that is intrinsically valuable is one s own
pleasure; anything else that has value is valuable merely as a means to securing pleasure for oneself
(O Keefe). This quote from Epicurus shows that pleasure is important to the value of happiness in life.
But how is Epicureanism a type of hedonism? The answer is that, Epicureanism is a form of hedonism
because they both believe that pleasure is what leads to happiness. Since they both believe that
pleasure leads to happiness, the way to know the difference between the two is that hedonists believe
that the people must find a way to increase their own pleasures, whatever they might include and
Epicureanism is the belief that people must control their own pleasures based

Compare and Contrast two ethical theories.
In this essay I have chosen to compare two opposing theories, Immanuel Kant s absolutist
deontological ethics and Joseph Fletchers relativist situation ethics. The deontological ethics focuses
on actions made according to duty and the categorical imperative which shows how acts are
intrinsically good or bad. The situation ethics state that no act is intrinsically good or bad, and that
actions should b made according to love. From this perspective it looks as thought Kant s views were
less personal than Fletcher s, although in actuality both focus on the best outcome for humans.
Deontological ethics is concerned with actions, not consequences. To act with good intention but have
a bad outcome is still moral. Similarly if the intention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fletcher believed that there are three types of ethical theories; legalistic ethics, antinomian ethics and
situation ethics. Deontology would be considered legalistic as it uses moral law as a set of
prefabricated rules much like in Christian traditions, which focus on natural moral law and the
commandments from the bible. According to Fletcher this would lead to problem s when life s
difficulties require additional laws. To explain this he used an example of murder once murder has
been prohibited one has to clarify the meaning in relation to killing in self defence, abortion, killing in
war, euthanasia and so on. A legalist would have to accommodate them. Fletcher rejected this as it can
create confusion there would be too many rules to learn.
Antinomian ethics is the direct opposite of legalistic ethics. All decisions are made spontaneously as if
every situation was unique. There are no ethical rules antinomian meaning against law .
it is literally unprincipled, purely ad hoc and casual. They are exactly, anarchic i.e. without a rule.
Fletcher (1963).
Fletcher was equally critical of antinomianism as there is on structure to it.
The third approach to ethics is situational ethics. This approach seems to be a compromise between
legalistic and antinomian views as a situationist follows the rules of society, but will set them aside if
love seems better served by doing so.
the situationist follows a moral law or

Discussion Questions:

Starbucks is an American company who try to expend its business to other country around the world.
However, each country owned and has an identity, a history, and culture. This requires to Starbucks to
analyze the current market and adapt his offers according to the needs and mores (usages).
There are several barriers facing Starbucks to the teaching people to change their consumption habits
from tea and instant coffee. First of all, the major problem is that a cultural problem. In fact tea is still

Besides, even if in the text it is written, As if Chinese market were not enough, Starbucks is finalizing
a deal to enter India. I think that if Starbucks succeed with Chinese market they could also enter the

There is response to this question in the text, but I can explain my thought. When we buy a coffee at
Starbucks we don t buy only a coffee but also a corporate images, a service, a way of thinking and
living. Starbucks create its own environment, brand value. It represents the premium coffee. There is
not only coffee, even if it is the Starbucks s specialty. Also, there is breakfast, drink, gift card, candy,
lunch, and all spin off products (derivative product or tie in merchandise). The atmospheres of the
place are a huge factor in the Starbucks experience. They want us to be the first and the most luxurious
coffee.
To respond to Americans and Europeans increasing concern for the environment, Starbucks adopted a
green marketing. They contribute to protect the environment by using recycled cup and other things. It
s a way to play with the affective (emotional) component of the consumer.
This way of thinking is true in western countries, I do not know about this fact in Middle Eastern and
eastern countries.
In order to complete my answer, I also search on Internet the other values of Starbucks (Internal
values).

Analysis Of The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down By...
Anne Fadiman s novel The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down depicts the colliding worlds of the
Western and Hmong culture in an effort to save the life of a little girl, who is diagnosed with epilepsy.
The novel tells two different, but interwoven, stories in which one from the point of view of Lia s
parents, and another from the point of view of health care providers. Both Lia s parents and health
care providers want the best for Lia Lee, but due to a lack of understanding and cultural barriers, result
in the tragedy of Lia. This article explains how anthropological concepts are applied into the novel,
and how themes of culture and cultural misunderstanding impacted Lia s parents and the health care
providers resulting in a tragedy.

Adjusting to the Hmong s new homeland has not been easy for them. Traditional Hmong beliefs
regarding healing and curing of disease differ greatly from those of the Western culture. Western
medicine relies heavily on a medical process in which a specific technique corrects a specific problem
by treatment. Health is the absence of disease and measures the individual s adaptation to an
environment. On the other hand, Hmong believe illness is associated with spiritual causes. For
instance, when Lia was three month ago, she had an epileptic seizure in which Lia s mother Foua, and
her father, Nao Kao, called the episode the spirit catches you and you fall down (Fadiman, 1997,
p.20). According to Lia s parents, it was a spiritual illness which Lia s soul had fled out of her body
(Fadiman, 1997, p. 21). On the other hand, Dr. Dan Murphy, who practiced Western medicine,
diagnosed Lia Lee with epilepsy. The Ethnocentrism is the judging of other cultures by the standards
of one s own culture (Miller, Esterik, Esterik, 2004, p. 11). Therefore, all other ways of doing things
are considered inferior and unnatural. For instances, when Dr. Neil Ernst expressed that he felt it was
important for the Hmong to understand that there were certain elements of medicine and that the
doctors understood better than the Hmong did (Fadiman, 1997, p.79). Dr. Ernst wanted the community
to know if the Hmong deviated from the norm of society; it was consider not an acceptable behavior
(Fadiman, 1997, p.79). This statement shows how American doctors thought they had a better
understanding of the needs of children rather than the parents. Although the physicians truly cared
about Lia, it is their frustrations that magnified the cultural barriers, which prevented the Hmong from
collaborating with the physicians in restoring Lia s deteriorating

Alexander Graham Bell And The Life Of Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. He was raised by his
mother Eliza Grace Symonds Bell, who was nearly deaf, but was an accomplished pianist and
encouraged Alexander to undertake big challenges, and his father Alexander Melville Bell. Alexander
Graham Bell was one of three children and was home schooled until age 11. He did not do very well
in school academically, but he did enjoy science and had a great ability to solve problems. Growing
up, Alexander became very interested in his father s business, which focused on oral education for the
deaf. The business focused on Visual Speech, which was a system of symbols to aid people in
speaking words in any language even if they had never heard it before. Alexander Graham Bell had
high hopes for oral education and communication, and wanted to learn more about it. During his
college years, Alexander Graham Bell received his education from the University of London where he
studied under his grandfather who was a noted speech teacher. Over the years, Alexander made his
way around the world, teaching people about, and promoting, oralism. During this time, Alexander
attracted parents of deaf children who wanted their children to speak. Alexander truly believed that
without the ability to speak, deaf people would never be able to fully participate in society. Alexander
Graham Bell took it upon himself to find the most appropriate way for oralism to be the main form of

Tim Peake Summary
The Christian Science Monitor article, PUT THE TITLE HERE, PUT THE LINK HERE, discusses
the dangers of space travel with astronaut Tim Peake. According to Peake, a window on the
International Space Station (ISS) was damaged by a paint chip sized piece of metal. He contends that
the ISS can withstand this type of small hit by debris. However, a strike by larger Space debris could
be hazardous. In fact, the ISS had to do a planned maneuver to get out of the way of a larger piece of
debris. For many years debris from inoperable satellites has accumulated in Earth s orbit. The trash
left from these satellites is posing an increasing threat to current missions. In the year 1998, The
National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academy of Sciences equated the danger from
space debris to that of a spacecraft s launch or reentry. And since that time, the amount of debris in
space has more than doubled. Another issue that contributes to the danger of the debris, is that it is
traveling in space at 17,500 miles per hour. At this rate, even a small piece of debris could cause
serious damage. Consequently, there have been many ideas put forth about how to rid Space of all ...

The Organizational Learning Strategy And How It Is...
This paper will summarize the organizational learning strategy and how it is significant as well as
essential, specifically in the course of the progression periods of a company, or once new technology
or new techniques within an industry are implemented. As a result, organizational learning has
established itself to be one of the most efficient ways for an entire company, a division or a team to
accept a wide range of new polls, tactics and concepts to allow for growth and improvement (Senge,
1990). Thus, when comparing to traditional learning techniques, or classrooms, individual learning
schedules and other techniques are employed, organizational learning has proven itself to be far more
efficient and effective overall, while costing less time and money among other resources.
Nonetheless, Senge (1990) states that when working out an organizational learning strategy, there s
one objective above all that must be considered. Setting clear and concise goals, as by means of all
impartialities, is utmost significance. Upon conducting a training needs assessment, or planning out
how organizational learning will be disseminated, and eventually figuring out what the final result in
goal should be, clear and present goals for each and every step, as well as an ultimate goal, are
important to management along with organizational strategy.

Mesa Verde National Park Located in the southwestern part of Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park
was the home of Ancestral Puebloans from AD 600 to 1300. Located within the park are thousands of
archaeological sites and hundreds of cliff dwellings. Whether you have half of a day or a week at the

Numerous cliff dwellings have their own names and can be visited while at the park, along with

Evaluating The Redistributive Crime That Occurs By Using A...
Often retailers will overtly protect expensive, top shelf products, but this may actually result in the
increased theft of less secure, bottom shelf goods. This incidence is referred to as redistributive crime.
There is a loss prevention (LP) department in retail companies that is specifically tasked with
minimizing product loss, commonly referred to as inventory shrink. LP is implemented to reduce the
preventable loss of a company s assets by utilizing technologies that mitigate theft and fraud. Retailers
continuously adapt their technologies to handle threats, but there are still numerous underlying issues,
such as employee theft, fraud, and shoplifting. The increase in technology that consumers have access
to threatens LP divisions, because they have made it easier for consumers to steal products, such as
ink, and this drives LP to make technological progress in order to prevent further inventory shrinkage.
However, there are budget constraints, and efficiency problems that arise with newer, more difficult
LP technology. This paper aims to evaluate the redistributive crime that occurs by using a case study
within a department of goods and analyzing the security measures available to combat this problem.

A New Client For A Cereal Making Company
A new client for a cereal making company has asked us to help promote their cereal as healthy . This
new cereal is called *name here*, and it is our job to determine the correlation between calories and
potassium in order to make the new cereal healthier by lowering the calories but increasing potassium.
We have researched the interrelationship between calories and potassium and this paper is a product of
our analysis. We have compared data between the top fifteen cereals and have found that calories and
potassium have a negative correlation. However this is only a coincidence as it is other factors, such as
sugar, fiber, protein, and fat that correlate most directly to calories, while certain ingredients have
more potassium than others. Calories and potassium are both essential parts of the diet that the human
body needs in order to survive. A calorie is a unit of energy that measures how much energy the body
gets just by eating or drinking it. It is generally thought that the higher the calories, the worse it is for
the body. It is thought that way because the extra calories that the body doesn t use is converted to fat,

What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown Summary
Does sports performance depend as much on mental strength and agility as physical power ?After
reading What Could Be Better Than a Touchdown by Kelefa Sanneh and Why We Run by Bernd
Heinrich, I say mental strength and agility are just as important as physical power in sports. It may be
true that physical power is more than mental power in sports. However physical power and mental
strength are equally important. In What Could Be Better Than a Touchdown football players needed
both mental strength and physical power to be able to score a successful point. In the article it states
Dwight Lowery has been watching the play unfold. He breaks toward the ball, intercepts it, and dashes
twenty six yards into the end zone. Touchdown! Dwight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the text it states Every morning in Africa, an antelope wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest
lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the
fastest antelope or it will starve . Animals know if they don t run fast enough they will die. This means
that animals use their mental strength and physical power to survive and escape prey. This is
significant because it supports the fact animals need both mental strength and physical power in order
to be able to stay alive. Animals need mental strength in order to figure out how they will survive and
they need physical power to be able to outrun their prey and or catch their prey. Also in the text
Heinrich needed mental and physical power to be able to run races. In the text it states As a zoologist

how it s done and for tips on how to train . This means that Henrich used other resources to help him
improve his running skills. This is significant because it supports the fact that physical power and

he needed mental strength to learn tips and tricks on how to run

Synthesis Essay On Gold
Once the gold ore is no longer able to be mined economically, all of the salvageable equipment is
removed and the reclamation process begins. The goal of reclamation is to return the mine site to its
pre mining state while minimizing erosion, and protecting the public and surrounding wildlife. Portals
that lead to the underground workings are sealed, but should have ports to monitor if there is a buildup
of toxic gases or water. Reclaiming the surface area where the mine office, bathhouse, and processing
facilities were located starts with demolition of the buildings and removal of equipment and materials.
A special requirement for reclaiming gold processing plants is to rinse and neutralize any residual
leaching solution from the solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paper money in the United States and other countries used to be backed by gold which became known
as the gold standard . This meant that a person could trade paper money for its equivalent value in
gold bars. Eventually it became too difficult to maintain this standard so it is not currently used by any
country. One of the most well known uses for gold is in jewelry which makes up about 78 percent of
gold consumption. Gold is desirable for jewelry manufacturers because of its luster, resistance to
tarnish, and ability to be shaped easily. However, pure (24 karat) gold is too soft to withstand the stress
put on most jewelry, so it is often made into an alloy with silver or copper to make it harder. Another
use of gold is in electronics and computers due to its high conductivity. Connectors, soldered joints,
and connecting strips have low voltages running through them that are easily interrupted by corrosion,
which is why gold s resistance to tarnish makes it perfect for these applications. In the medical
industry, gold alloys are used for crowns, fillings, and other orthodontic appliances because it is
chemically inert and non allergenic. Also, radioactive gold isotopes can serve as a radiation source
when treating certain cancers. Interestingly, small amounts of gold can be injected into the eyelids of a
person that suffers from lagophthalmos, which is the inability to completely close their eyes (King,

Ransom By David Malouf Analysis
Grief can play with one s mind twisting and manipulating one to not be the same person they used to
be, while grief can also change one for the better. In the book, Ransom, by David Malouf, Hector kills
Achilles friend, Patroclus, so Achilles kills Hector. Priam wants to see his son one last time so he
makes a plan to get to him. Somax takes Priam on a carriage to go find his son Hector. They have
some troubles along the way, but they eventually get to Priam s son. Priam brings Hector back to Troy
and Hector is buried. In Ransom by David Malouf, the author teaches the reader the power of grief
through the experiences of Priam and Achilles. Grief can be a controlling force, it can cause and
individual to change as a person, and grief can strongly influence one s actions. The sorrow from the
loss of a loved can be burdensome and can take a toll on one and their family. Priam explains to
Hecuba, It is eleven days now since Hector s death and we have done nothing, all of us, but weep and
sit stunned with grief (Malouf 50). Priam s family is depressed over the loss of their son Hector. It
controls their emotions and the way they think of their life now, moving on without Hector. While
Priam is talking with Deiphobus, Priam lowers his head. When he raises it again his look is grave but
his eyes, for all the power of emotion in him are dry (Malouf 84). Priam is having a difficult time
coming to terms that Hector is actually gone, so he is overcome with multiple emotions.

Self Interpretive Essay
Anne Riley Laid Off: One of the most interesting topics covered in class for me was that of emotions
and moods. I have a hard time understanding when and how to express my emotions. This has been a
real problem for me in all of my relationships, both professional and personal. Though I have never
been laid off I feel I relate to the case of Anne Riley to some degree. Anne was able to better
understand and recognize her emotions and in the long run benefited from that knowledge. The case
begins with Anne Riley meeting with a recruiter from Goldman Sachs Private Equity Group. She is
hoping that this interview will eventually pay off with a permanent job upon her graduation.
Throughout the case many descriptive words were used so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The case describes her determination and hard work. Raised by her mother Anne began earning her
own money at the age of 15. Anne was the first in her family to attend college and graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in finance. She understood from a young age that work
offered a direct payoff; the harder she worked the bigger her reward in the end. Anne, like me, had
goals for her life. She had a direction and path she wanted to follow and knew what she had to do to
get there. She had chosen a career in private equity and knew that a person with these aspirations spent
a few years after college working and moving up within a firm before attending school. Anne was
offered a position with Storrow after a rough interview process. Anne soon relocated to a new city
leaving her family, friends, and life behind her in New York. Being confident in her goals and plans
Anne found a nice apartment, furnished it, and began a small family (adopted a dog). Like Anne, I too
relocated to a new city in order to pursue my current job. I moved quickly leaving behind friends and
relationships I had come to cherish. I moved into an apartment with my small family not knowing the
area or anyone near us. I too felt confident in myself and knew I would be here for a while moving up
in my career. I have invested in my education because I know that if I aspire to provide for my family
I will need an education. I also will

Surveillance Of Private Citizens
The debate between privacy and the surveillance of private citizens has been quite a huge and
controversial topic that has arisen in recent years. In terms of understanding how exactly it came to be
such a controversial topic, first a person should be able to understand exactly what it means to have
the surveillance of private citizens, why it has been said to be a good idea for a better and safe society
and the different terms that come up when one talks about the topic of surveilling private citizens. Key
ideas that should be noted for learning more about the topic would be for example PRISM, TOR, and
of course the opposing opinion of whether or not government collection for security reasons is

Governments around the world have said that by going through this process of collecting information
on it s own citizens, that it could help deal with security concerns. This idea of having government
surveillance programs keeping watch over it s citizens at least in the United States has been prevalent
since at least 911 when prior to the launch of Prism in 2007, there was another program in place called
the Terrorist Surveillance Program. In terms of what government surveillance is being used for it is
mainly to stop terrorist attacks from occurring. In order for this to occur, the government sifts through
the traffic of different telecommunications, Internet, phone calls, web chats, and etc. As they are
sifting through this traffic they will be looking for certain patterns, which would be considered red
flags. Through these red flags they can pinpoint certain people or factors and then slowly build up a
file on whether or not there is a certain terrorist or criminal threat to the public or not.
In terms of whether or not government surveillance is a good thing, my argument would be that mean
it s necessarily a good thing to collect information on everyone, as that s what government
surveillance calls

Nascar History
Nascar History
Nascar History
NASCAR is one of the most rapidly growing sports in the world. There are people who think that
NASCAR is just a bunch of hicks going around in circles, but it takes skill to drive at two hundred
miles per hour. I am going to talk about the history of NASCAR, early drivers of NASCAR, the three
NASCAR divisions, the rules, and the new technology. Two of NASCAR s oldest races are the ones
that are at Charlotte, North Carolina and Daytona international Speedways. Charlotte Motor
Speedway was designed and built in 1959 by Bruton Smith. Curtis Turner, stock car s earliest driving
star, was Smith s business partner. Turner became one of the first drivers on the NASCAR ... Show

Sprint Cup Series cars are unique in automobile racing. The engines are powerful enough to reach
speeds of over 200 mph (320 km/h), but heavy weight coupled with a (relatively) simple aerodynamic
package makes for poor handling. Their bodies and chassis are strictly regulated to ensure parity or
equality, and electronics are generally Spartan in nature. The idea for the Truck Series dates back to
1993. A group of off road racers (Dick Landfield, Jimmy Smith, Jim Venable, and Frank Scoop
Vessels) wanted a bigger audience for truck racing. They made a prototype for a NASCAR style
pickup truck. These were first shown off during the 1994 Daytona 500, and four demonstration races
were held during the season. The first event at Mesa Marin Raceway had six trucks. The other three
events were held at Portland Speedway, Saugus Speedway, and Tucson Raceway Park. Tucson
Raceway Park held four events that winter, which were nationally televised during the Winter Heat
Series coverage. These trucks proved to be extremely popular, and it led to NASCAR creating the
series, originally known as the Super Truck Series in 1995.
The rules of NASACAR changed a lot in the years since NASCAR started. The rules kept changing
due to advancement in technology, which meant different rules for safety. Some of the rules today are
that NASCAR allows bump drafting (helps drivers conserve gas) on restrictor plate tracks, no
speeding on entrance or exit of pit

Selflessness In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
Adolescents are always encouraged to avoid conformity and the peer pressure placed upon them.
However, adolescents are given the impression that these demands will fade with their youth. When in
fact, society never ceases to force conformity and break individual spirits.
Ayn Rand takes the supremacy of the individual to a whole new level, shattering the idea that altruism
and good works prove true selflessness. In fact, The Fountainhead presents the notion that true
selflessness lies within a selfish nature. Like an iterated function, the two paradoxical qualities feed in
to one another. As an individual becomes more selfish by satisfying self interest in defiance of society,
he or she becomes more virtuous, a word with a connotation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dominique Francon, an individualist parallel to Roark, who is also his lover, comments eloquently on
each character s relationship to the individual. She describes Roark s temple as one that worships
humanity and its potential, not acknowledging a higher spirit or supernatural deity. Howard Roark
built a temple to the human spirit. He saw man as strong, proud, clean, wise, and fearless. He saw man
as a heroic being (365). Any temple Roark wishes to visit would only worship mankind and it s future
possibilities. Since he never wavers from his philosophical belief system and architectural premises,
he erects the Stoddard Temple not as the masses wish to see it, but as he knows it should be seen.
Ellsworth M. Toohey on the other hand, wastes no time degrading Roark s building to both the masses
and his employer. The abhorrence of the temple spreads like an infection. Each single member of
society begins to believe the edifice is an example of heresy until the entire masses maintain the same
opinion, cultivated by no other than Ellsworth Monkton Toohey. Dominique explains his reaction as a

BUSN WK6 Assignment Analysis
BUSN WK6 ASSIGNMENT The main approach would be for the board to provide a strategic plan set
in place for the nonprofit organization and its mission. Once the funds have been allocated, it is the
responsibility of the CEO/Executive Director to see that those funds are applied as assigned. All funds
disbursed for day to day operations, weekly and monthly are tallied. If the forecast for a certain
program was over estimated, the CEO/Executive Director can inform the board and suggest other
avenues for unassigned funds. It also presents itself in the form of first hand knowledge, like being on
the front line and reporting back to headquarters of the current positions. CEO/Executive Directors in
the nonprofit sector are focused and balanced at the same time for maximum success. Lacking
knowledge on finances, most executive directors need to know what financial information is essential.
Having that information or financial statements in an understandable format and knowing how to
analyze those reports to assess the financial health of the organization is crucial for making
programming decisions and financial goals. (Brickman, P. 2005). This information of analysis is
transferred to staff for proper processing. Some programs based on actual report may need to be

My Favorite Places On Earth Essay
One of my most favorite places on earth is Albany, Wyoming. In my mind it is one of the beautiful
places to be on earth. Albany is truly a beautiful place to be. It is beautiful seeing all the snow covered
mountains during the winter. If you ever get a chance to travel there I would highly recommend it. The
way the land changes so fast is truly a sight to see.
The first time I experienced Albany was in the winter of 2015. It was my first time out west during the
winter. It was very weird on our way out there. There wasn t any snow the entire way there but once
we got there I was truly amazed how much snow they had on the mountains and how one moment I
was seeing nothing but flat fields and the next I was heading up the mountain.
The drive to Wyoming was the worst part of the trip for me. Nebraska is the worst part of the trip.
There is nothing to see in Nebraska except flat endless fields. Every once and awhile you ll see some
wildlife or a tumbleweed roll across the road. Once I got to Wyoming the drive seemed to fly by
because there was a lot more to scenery to look at.
Once I got up the mountains there was hardly any wildlife because of how deep the snow is during the
winter. Even without the wildlife around the trees and landscape draws you in. The way the landscape
changes so fast is truly amazing. One moment I would be in dense forest and the next i would be on
top of a mountain without any trees around. The beauty of the way the landscape changes just draws
me in. I

The Beginnings of a National Literary Tradition Essay
The Beginnings of a National Literary Tradition
Canadians throughout their history have been concerned over the status of their national literature.
One of the major problems facing early Canadian writers was that the language and poetic
conventions that they had inherited from the Old World were inadequate for the new scenery and
conditions in which they now found themselves. Writers such as Susanna Moodie, Samuel Hearne,
and
Oliver Goldsmith were what I would consider Immigrant authors. Even though they were writing in
Canada about Canada their style and their audiences were primarily England and Europe. These
authors wrote from an Old World perspective and therefore were not truly Canadian authors. It took a

Lampman signaled the move from the Immigrant authors like Moodie and her counterparts toward a
true and distinct Canadian literary movement. It is important to note that in order to appreciate the
quality of 19th Century Canadian literature, an effort of sympathy and a leap of imagination are both
needed because it is here in the 19th Century that our nations true poetic history begins. In early
Canadian poetry the most influential and universal poet is undoubtedly Archibald Lampman. While
his career, like his life, were short lived his poetry remains as a reminder to the origins of Canadian
literary thought. Lampman was one of our first major literary figures to try and identify a national
literature. He realized the importance of having a specifically Canadian literary tradition. An important
stepping point in
Lampman s career came after he read the work Orion by Charles G.D. Roberts.
Lampman describes his over powering emotion when as a youth he came across this published
work(in the quote on the title page). The importance of having this distinct literary school was a
driving inspiration in his art. Lampman is regarded as the most talented of The Confederation Poets (
W.J. Keith 18). It is amazing that this unspectacular man could have such a profound effect on the
evolution of Canadian literary tradition. His upbringing was in a very conservative environment as

The thief didn t need the money in the sense that most people would need the money. He had bank accounts in several banks around the world. His lowest balance was a little over 3 million dollars. • 8. Cognitive Dissonance In Early Childhood Education Cognitive dissonance is the internal state that arises when either an attitude and behavior or two attitudes conflict. The resulting psychological discomfort remains until subjects can reach consonance between the two. They reach consonance by changing an attitude, rationalizing a behavior, or undervaluing the importance of the discrepant attitude. Balcetis Dunning (2007) investigated whether cognitive dissonance influenced subjects visual perception of natural environments. In two judgment tasks, the researchers manipulated the degree to which subjects felt that they had freely chosen to participate in an aversive task. Those in the first study donned a Carmen Miranda costume and walked the length of a school courtyard, while subjects in the second study used a skateboard to push themselves uphill. One could induce cognitive dissonance to alter elementary school children s perception of the external world specifically, of their classrooms. With these studies in mind, I propose that teachers employ the free choice paradigm to compel students to complete tedious classroom chores. They could create small lists of chores for each student, and then allow the student to choose a task from that list to complete. Student would develop dissonance from the discrepancy between the presumably unpleasant nature of the chores and the belief that they had freely chosen to participate. They would then reduce this dissonance by misperceiving the chore s aversive nature. For example, the child cleaning up Legos might view the mess as smaller than it actually is, while the child putting away picture books might report there being are fewer books to gather than in reality. Such a procedure would make classroom cleanup an easier ordeal for both students and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Good Earth is about a simple peasant named Wang Lung, who gains fortune over the course of his life. The New York times said of it, A comment on the meaning and tragedy of life as it is lived in any corner of the globe. But what makes this book so good; why is it enjoyed by so many people around the world? Some might say that it s the writing, or even the subject of the story. These are both true, but there is something that impacts the story more, and that is the ability to relate. The Good Earth is about a simple man,a peasant, someone people can relate to. The first reason why The Good Earth is so relatable is because is because it shows the life of a simple farmer turned rich man. Wang Lung, in the beginning of the ... If Wang Lung keeps gaining throughout his life, and never suffers a loss, that wouldn t accurately represent real life, and it would no longer be as relatable. The task involved negotiating for the right price for the used car. When I was planning for the negotiation the most important criteria was that the car must certainly have all those specifications which the 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport was offering. That is, an air conditioning, AM/FM stereo, 6 cylinder engine and the mileage should be the same or more than the Jeep. Also, I had firmly decided to buy the Mazda under all circumstances and not go in for the jeep, as it would certainly turn out to be a better proposition than the jeep. If your first offer is extremely inflated, the other person thinks on the higher side and may close the deal at a higher price than what he had thought of initially. However, if your offer is low, the other person will try to manipulate you in such a way that he may tend to close the deal at even a lower price that what he had aspired for. • 14. Essay about Beauty and the Beast Beaumont vs Disney: A Comparative Look into a Classic Fairy tales and stories are something that has been around since the beginning of time. Tales were passed down from generation to generation, and in the case of fairy tales, these stories were not at first geared towards any age group, but instead for anyone, for entertainment purposes. Growing up, one of my favorite tales was Beauty and the Beast. If you ask children if they know this story, I would guarantee almost one hundred percent of them would. However, I m sure the story they would know is that of the Disney version. In my lifetime, the majority of fairy tales I know are the Disney version. There is more than just Disney s version of Beauty and the Beast, for example, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beaumont does not mention these characters and we find Beauty not falling in love and liking him as quickly as in Disney. Both stories invoke a child s imagination, either with the addition of these live castle objects or merely the presence of something magical which the child can then come up with their own images. By doing this, the child fits unconscious content into conscious fantasies, which then enable him to deal with that content. It is here that fairy tales have unequaled value, because they offer new dimensions to the child s imagination which would be impossible for him to discover as truly on his own. Even more important, the form and structure of fairy tales suggest images to the child by which he can structure his daydreams and with them give better direction to his life (Bettleheim 7). In another area, the differences in characters add to some differences in the plot. With the Disney version, which people mostly relate to, the Prince is turned into the Beast by an enchantress when he shows his selfishness. It is said that if the Prince could learn to love and be loved in return before the last enchanted rose petal fell, then the castle s spell would be gone (Disney 2). The difference in the roses in both stories was that Beaumont s Beast had a garden of roses in which he told the merchant, I value more than anything I possess (Beaumont 24). • 15. New Public Management ( Npm ) New Public Management (NPM) was developed in response to some criticisms of the public sector. One of them is to make the public sector more financially accountable since they need to demonstrate to the government who provides them funding, that the money is being put into good use. They also need to ensure efficient resource allocation (Peyton) because resources are limited yet there is an increase in expectations and demands. For example, number of public hospitals and medical expertise may be insufficient to meet the public s demand. This is because government feel compelled to ensure that everyone can access healthcare and is therefore, provided at a low cost. The problem is made worse due to the growth of private hospitals, where quality of services is regarded as superior to public hospitals. The public medical sector is thus under great pressure to improve service quality and efficiency. It is said that the new public management reforms have made public sector organisations more calculable and accountable. First of all, it is important to define these terms. Calculable means the ability to measure and assess the worth of something. In our context, it often means putting monetary value on tangibles and intangibles. Accountable means being held responsible for actions taken and the ability to answer to those who are involved in the process. The Effect Of Income Levels On The Investment Choices... 4.3 Results for Objective #2 Whether RRSP is better for high income earners Based on our data collected, we have compiled tables and graphs in order to visually represent our selected data and to test our hypothesis. Since our main objective of this research paper is to determine the effect of income levels on the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA, the sample from investors with both and neither plans were excluded when testing the hypothesis in order to isolate the variables that we wanted to test. Therefore only 79 participants would be considered when examining whether RRSP is better for high income investors. The investment options of these 79 participants were shown as Illustration 4.3.1 as below. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After removing those sample we were left with 79 participants who either chose TFSA or RRSP for their retirement savings. For this test we used a significant level of 5%. With the degree of freedom of 77 and a 5% significance level we arrived at a t value of 1.990 and 1.990. Since our calculated t critical value of 1.019 does not fall into the rejection region of 1.990 and 1.990 we have concluded that we do not reject the null hypothesis, shown as Illustration 4.3.6 as below. Chapter 5 Major Findings and Discussion The purpose of the survey was to determine whether there is a relationship between investors income level and their investment options of RRSP and TFSA. Our literature review suggested that investors with higher income would be more favourable when choosing RRSP rather than TFSA. The null hypothesis was structured assuming there is no relationship between the income level and the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA. Based on the t test we conducted using SPSS, we do not reject the null hypothesis (H0), which suggests that with a significance level of 5% we cannot conclude that the investors that chose RRSP had a higher income than the investors who chose TFSA. Therefore, the test result turned out to be different from what we have concluded from the literature review. As we discussed based on the secondary research, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Future demand is derived using projected population statistics of 2002. The population in 2002 was 25 million and the population growth between 1991 2002 was 3.2 %, and by 2015 the projected population growth as per an estimate would rise to 35 million. This would mean that any impact achieved through the adoption of new Technologies, improved marketing or accelerated urbanisation would increase demand levels. This city s intersection is lively with the commonplace sights of businesses, people and vehicles. On a sunny and breezy afternoon, three Eastern and Western based businesses, on the far left, line up one after another vying for attention from potential patrons. In the middle, the sidewalk is filled with an array of people. At the forefront of the sidewalk there are three people that are on the edge of the crosswalk. To the left, a medium build, middle aged white female with long black hair is about to cross the crosswalk. She is wearing black shoes, a black dress and a white short sleeved blouse. In the Hellenistic Age, epicureanism was extremely influential. Epicurus, the founder of Epicureanism, is best known for his different personality, unlike all the other ancient philosophers, excluding Socrates (O Keefe). Epicurus accumulated a group of disciples and taught them, after that he became known as the philosophy of the Garden. The wisdom theory, epicureanism, is a form of the hedonism theory that describes different types of pleasure, different types of desires, the virtues, the importance of friendship, and death. Epicureanism is a philosophical theory that is a form of hedonism. Epicurus once said, That the only thing that is intrinsically valuable is one s own pleasure; anything else that has value is valuable merely as a means to securing pleasure for oneself (O Keefe). This quote from Epicurus shows that pleasure is important to the value of happiness in life. But how is Epicureanism a type of hedonism? The answer is that, Epicureanism is a form of hedonism because they both believe that pleasure is what leads to happiness. Since they both believe that pleasure leads to happiness, the way to know the difference between the two is that hedonists believe that the people must find a way to increase their own pleasures, whatever they might include and Epicureanism is the belief that people must control their own pleasures based ... • 21. Compare and Contrast two ethical theories. In this essay I have chosen to compare two opposing theories, Immanuel Kant s absolutist deontological ethics and Joseph Fletchers relativist situation ethics. The deontological ethics focuses on actions made according to duty and the categorical imperative which shows how acts are intrinsically good or bad. The situation ethics state that no act is intrinsically good or bad, and that actions should b made according to love. From this perspective it looks as thought Kant s views were less personal than Fletcher s, although in actuality both focus on the best outcome for humans. Deontological ethics is concerned with actions, not consequences. To act with good intention but have a bad outcome is still moral. Similarly if the intention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fletcher believed that there are three types of ethical theories; legalistic ethics, antinomian ethics and situation ethics. Deontology would be considered legalistic as it uses moral law as a set of prefabricated rules much like in Christian traditions, which focus on natural moral law and the commandments from the bible. According to Fletcher this would lead to problem s when life s difficulties require additional laws. To explain this he used an example of murder once murder has been prohibited one has to clarify the meaning in relation to killing in self defence, abortion, killing in war, euthanasia and so on. A legalist would have to accommodate them. Fletcher rejected this as it can create confusion there would be too many rules to learn. Antinomian ethics is the direct opposite of legalistic ethics. All decisions are made spontaneously as if every situation was unique. This approach seems to be a compromise between legalistic and antinomian views as a situationist follows the rules of society, but will set them aside if love seems better served by doing so. the situationist follows a moral law or ... Traditional Hmong beliefs regarding healing and curing of disease differ greatly from those of the Western culture. Western medicine relies heavily on a medical process in which a specific technique corrects a specific problem by treatment. Health is the absence of disease and measures the individual s adaptation to an environment. On the other hand, Hmong believe illness is associated with spiritual causes. For instance, when Lia was three month ago, she had an epileptic seizure in which Lia s mother Foua, and her father, Nao Kao, called the episode the spirit catches you and you fall down (Fadiman, 1997, p.20). According to Lia s parents, it was a spiritual illness which Lia s soul had fled out of her body (Fadiman, 1997, p. 21). On the other hand, Dr. Dan Murphy, who practiced Western medicine, diagnosed Lia Lee with epilepsy. The Ethnocentrism is the judging of other cultures by the standards of one s own culture (Miller, Esterik, Esterik, 2004, p. 11). Therefore, all other ways of doing things are considered inferior and unnatural. For instances, when Dr. Neil Ernst expressed that he felt it was important for the Hmong to understand that there were certain elements of medicine and that the doctors understood better than the Hmong did (Fadiman, 1997, p.79). Dr. Ernst wanted the community to know if the Hmong deviated from the norm of society; it was consider not an acceptable behavior (Fadiman, 1997, p.79). This statement shows how American doctors thought they had a better understanding of the needs of children rather than the parents. According to Peake, a window on the International Space Station (ISS) was damaged by a paint chip sized piece of metal. He contends that the ISS can withstand this type of small hit by debris. However, a strike by larger Space debris could be hazardous. In fact, the ISS had to do a planned maneuver to get out of the way of a larger piece of debris. For many years debris from inoperable satellites has accumulated in Earth s orbit. The trash left from these satellites is posing an increasing threat to current missions. In the year 1998, The National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academy of Sciences equated the danger from space debris to that of a spacecraft s launch or reentry. And since that time, the amount of debris in space has more than doubled. Another issue that contributes to the danger of the debris, is that it is traveling in space at 17,500 miles per hour. • 36. Evaluating The Redistributive Crime That Occurs By Using A... Often retailers will overtly protect expensive, top shelf products, but this may actually result in the increased theft of less secure, bottom shelf goods. This incidence is referred to as redistributive crime. There is a loss prevention (LP) department in retail companies that is specifically tasked with minimizing product loss, commonly referred to as inventory shrink. LP is implemented to reduce the preventable loss of a company s assets by utilizing technologies that mitigate theft and fraud. Retailers continuously adapt their technologies to handle threats, but there are still numerous underlying issues, such as employee theft, fraud, and shoplifting. The increase in technology that consumers have access to threatens LP divisions, because they have made it easier for consumers to steal products, such as ink, and this drives LP to make technological progress in order to prevent further inventory shrinkage. However, there are budget constraints, and efficiency problems that arise with newer, more difficult LP technology. This paper aims to evaluate the redistributive crime that occurs by using a case study within a department of goods and analyzing the security measures available to combat this problem. Not sure how to phrase it, but basically do the EAS systems implemented pay for themselves, does the marginal benefit exceed the marginal cost, each alpha box etc, service... This new cereal is called *name here*, and it is our job to determine the correlation between calories and potassium in order to make the new cereal healthier by lowering the calories but increasing potassium. We have researched the interrelationship between calories and potassium and this paper is a product of our analysis. We have compared data between the top fifteen cereals and have found that calories and potassium have a negative correlation. However this is only a coincidence as it is other factors, such as sugar, fiber, protein, and fat that correlate most directly to calories, while certain ingredients have more potassium than others. Calories and potassium are both essential parts of the diet that the human body needs in order to survive. A calorie is a unit of energy that measures how much energy the body gets just by eating or drinking it. It is generally thought that the higher the calories, the worse it is for the body. It is thought that way because the extra calories that the body doesn t use is converted to fat, and too much fat is linked to health problems such as arthritis (joint degeneration), heart disease and diabetes. Potassium is an electrolyte (meaning it conducts electricity in the body), it is essential for the proper function of cells, tissues and organs. It is crucial for heart function and the contraction of smooth and skeletal muscles. Too much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paper money in the United States and other countries used to be backed by gold which became known as the gold standard . This meant that a person could trade paper money for its equivalent value in gold bars. Eventually it became too difficult to maintain this standard so it is not currently used by any country. One of the most well known uses for gold is in jewelry which makes up about 78 percent of gold consumption. Gold is desirable for jewelry manufacturers because of its luster, resistance to tarnish, and ability to be shaped easily. However, pure (24 karat) gold is too soft to withstand the stress put on most jewelry, so it is often made into an alloy with silver or copper to make it harder. Another use of gold is in electronics and computers due to its high conductivity. Connectors, soldered joints, and connecting strips have low voltages running through them that are easily interrupted by corrosion, which is why gold s resistance to tarnish makes it perfect for these applications. In the medical industry, gold alloys are used for crowns, fillings, and other orthodontic appliances because it is chemically inert and non allergenic. In the book, Ransom, by David Malouf, Hector kills Achilles friend, Patroclus, so Achilles kills Hector. Priam wants to see his son one last time so he makes a plan to get to him. Somax takes Priam on a carriage to go find his son Hector. They have some troubles along the way, but they eventually get to Priam s son. Priam brings Hector back to Troy and Hector is buried. In Ransom by David Malouf, the author teaches the reader the power of grief through the experiences of Priam and Achilles. In terms of what government surveillance is being used for it is mainly to stop terrorist attacks from occurring. In order for this to occur, the government sifts through the traffic of different telecommunications, Internet, phone calls, web chats, and etc. As they are sifting through this traffic they will be looking for certain patterns, which would be considered red flags. Through these red flags they can pinpoint certain people or factors and then slowly build up a file on whether or not there is a certain terrorist or criminal threat to the public or not. A group of off road racers (Dick Landfield, Jimmy Smith, Jim Venable, and Frank Scoop Vessels) wanted a bigger audience for truck racing. They made a prototype for a NASCAR style pickup truck. These were first shown off during the 1994 Daytona 500, and four demonstration races were held during the season. The first event at Mesa Marin Raceway had six trucks. The other three events were held at Portland Speedway, Saugus Speedway, and Tucson Raceway Park. Tucson Raceway Park held four events that winter, which were nationally televised during the Winter Heat Series coverage. These trucks proved to be extremely popular, and it led to NASCAR creating the series, originally known as the Super Truck Series in 1995. The Beginnings of a National Literary Tradition Essay The Beginnings of a National Literary Tradition Canadians throughout their history have been concerned over the status of their national literature. One of the major problems facing early Canadian writers was that the language and poetic conventions that they had inherited from the Old World were inadequate for the new scenery and conditions in which they now found themselves. Writers such as Susanna Moodie, Samuel Hearne, and Oliver Goldsmith were what I would consider Immigrant authors. In early Canadian poetry the most influential and universal poet is undoubtedly Archibald Lampman. While his career, like his life, were short lived his poetry remains as a reminder to the origins of Canadian literary thought.
