Questions:
1. How does the structure of a middle paragraph differ from the structure of an introductory

Education Barriers in Poor Countries According to a new UNESCO policy paper 58 million children
aged 6 to 11 are not receiving any education. Over 40% of these children will never enter a classroom
(Unesco.org). In Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai said, almost half of school age children do not
have access to education. Some because of war or their schools have closed by the Taliban or others,
or they do not have the ability to go to school (Rawa.org). Pakistan has the world s poorest education
systems with 3 million children out of school (en.unesco.org). Girls in poor countries face barriers

Cost of education makes it hard for them because they do not have the money for textbooks or bus
fares. Many classrooms in Pakistan do not have textbooks, even though books are considered the most
important instructional material for the student s. Children score higher in tests of math and reading
comprehension when they are provided textbooks. Other issues are the quality of the books are flawed
with factual errors, inappropriate illustrations, and problems with readability, due to factual and
grammatical errors, along with major deviations from the specifications set by the Curriculum Bureau.
The language of the text creates confusion because it differs greatly from one grade to another and
even subject to subject among books at the same level (YesPakistan.com, 2002). Throughout Pakistani
society, education of girls is prohibited. Sending girls to school is against family honor. Education is
viewed as un Islamic by the Pakistani Taliban. The terrorist frown upon co education, and in
retaliation destroy the schools and the children. More than 800 schools in the region have been
attacked since 2009, according to government education authorities (Siddiqui). Co education remains
to be an issue in Pakistan, despite the positive sides to it such as, enabling women and man to
understand each other while having positive interactions (Ahmad). Since the attack of the Taliban on a

Justification Of The Atomic Bomb
On 6 August 1945 the Enola Gay, a B 29 bomber, dropped the first atomic bomb to be used in actual
combat on Hiroshima, Japan. The aftermath of this single bomb was over 130,000 dead and wounded.
The skyline of Hiroshima was almost completely leveled. This caught the
Japanese completely off guard. This as well as the bombing of Nagasaki three days later led to the
final and unconditional surrender of the Japanese
Empire and the end to World War II. The end result of these bombings outweighed the alternative of
invading the Japanese mainland instead of unleashing atomic weapons on the Japanese by a great deal.
The months and years that lead up to this massive blow against the
Japanese were full of heated debates and arguments on the moral implications of using an atomic
weapon against a civilian target. At the time the Japanese were running rampant in the Pacific and our
nation was fighting a three front war: one front in the Pacific, one front in Europe, and the final front
in North Africa. This placed a great deal of strain on our wartime resources, the tactic of Island
Hopping was becoming successful but the amount of manpower being needed for the other two fronts
meant that the Pacific front was not able to become a top priority.
The Manhattan Project had been underway since 1942 as a last resort option. The Manhattan Project

Society In Tim O Brien s The Babbit
In this novel there is a main character named Babbitt, who is just a normal person, middle class who
believes that the only way Americans can be truly happy is if they are rich. In his beliefs, following
society is the only way to get there, living the life of just working and being materialistic. Babbitt soon
realizes that it s time for a change but after being in the system for too long its quiet hard for him to
pull himself away from that dark world of proper society. Babbitt currently lives in the city of Zenith,
an industrialized mid west city where you pretty much are separated from what you have and what
you don t have. It s a very ignorant city where people see this but it s actually speaking present time
because it s sort of the same in present world. Babbitt wants to be happy but he lives in a world where
there s a barrier, and on the other side are all the rich people. Babbitt wants to cross paths but it s

is supposed to be one of the most beautiful things and to have someone go out and look for
satisfaction with someone else is very ugly. The divorce rate per 1000 women is nearly doubled that of

Disadvantages Of Harmonization Of Law
As Cohen (2009) stated, harmonization can happen in a variety of ways, ranging from the decisions of
individual states to reform their own legal structures to conform to a common standard to the adoption
of a multilateral treaty in which states commit themselves to adopt a common legal model. (Leebron,
1996) This can be seen in some countries who have adapted different ways of reforming their own
model while it can also be seen in regional areas mainly the European Union (EU) while the
Association of Southeast nations (ASEAN) have just adopted it last year.
There is a benefit as well as challenge in doing harmonization of law. The researcher thinks that the
only benefit is the reason why it is mainly good for all the countries involved. The only benefit is that
it makes trading easier. The researcher thinks that the countries involved could see increase in their
economy since trading is easier. A country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The global financial crisis in 2008 exposed the structural flaws of the EMU. The first challenge the
researcher saw is if the ASEAN countries would meet the financial criteria that would be set once the
ASEAN dollar is in use. When euro was launched, not every member at that time joined immediately.
At the same time, Greece did not qualify but was allowed to join in 2001. It is also important to note
that Britain and Denmark uses their own currency. If ASEAN adopts the ASEAN dollar, questions
such as if they are all qualified, what about those who are not qualified and those who do not want to
use the ASEAN dollar. The currency right now shows that Brunei and Singapore are above every other
member while Malaysia is catching up, others are far behind. If ASEAN dollar, would be put in to use,
countries like Brunei, Singapore and Malaysia may copy what Britain did since the Britain pound is

Important Place In My Life
One of the most important places in my life is a quiet place in Cook County, Illinois.
That place would be a cemetery called St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. To many, this may be a weird
place to choose, but to me it is a safe place to vent and think. You see, St. Mary is the resting place of
my mother, Kimberly Bitsie. Those reasons, are why it is the most important place in my world.
Cook County is not a place I have ever lived, but my family and I try to visit as often as we can. My
Dad, little brother and I usually try visit once every two to three years, because we visit our
grandparents while in Illinois. When we visit though, we always try to make time to visit the cemetery
because we don t know the next we will be able to see her. It s about a thirty five minute drive from
my grandparent s house, but it s worth the drive. We spend on average thirty to forty minutes at the
cemetery. Before we go into the cemetery, we always stop by this one store near the cemetery, that
sells flower and decorations, to buy a spinner to put on mom s grave. I was only four when my mom
died of cancer, and I only have a few memories of her. So, being able to visit and try to connect is
what makes it special to me. When we go to visit the cemetery, it is usually around midday. Unlike
other cemeteries I have seen or visited, this cemetery I would put on the better side of the list, with
upkeep and location. When you first drive into the cemetery, you see a big gate and a beautiful stone

African American History
In the early 1920s Marcus Garvey captured the interest of many black Americans when he emphasized
black nationalism and black separatism (White et. al. 2012). In 1966, former leader of the Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Stokely Carmichael, echoed Garvey s philosophy when
he coined the term Black Power at a rally in Mississippi (Brown 2014). Introduced as an oratorical
tool, black power urged race pride and race unity to inspire militancy among black Americans. It was
founded on the belief that black survival depended on the exercise of black power to effect economic
and political change in black communities. Alongside Malcolm X s rhetoric of empowerment and the
aggressiveness of groups such as the Black Panther Party, Carmichael s vision of black power was not
representative of integration what he believed spoke to the problem of blackness (Carmichael 1966).
Interestingly, affirmative action, a then new approach to empowering black Americans, undermined
this basic tenant. It gave African Americans preferential treatment in hiring and school admissions,
which effectually assimilated blacks into majorly white institutions. (Affirmative Action 2014) Thus,
affirmative action adopted a more inclusive philosophy. As such, it is easy to conclude that these two
ideologies lie on opposite sides of the race relations spectrum; that despite originating to bring about
societal justice for African Americans, black power advocates sought their freedoms through

The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie Summary
In The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie narration is a key element in the appeal of the story. The book starts
off in medias res and continues to make use of both analepses and prolepses. Many believe that an
omniscient narrator, in part because of the anachrony, recounts the book but in this essay I will argue
that the book has an unreliable narrator through examination of the narration of character of Mary. On
many occasions Muriel Spark uses narration to endorse the treatment of Mary by the other characters,
meaning that the story s narration contains the opinions of the narrator. If the narrator is unreliable in
the account of Mary, then that brings into question the entire narrative discourse since the reader no
longer has a way of distinguishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing all this she makes the narrator unreliable. She consciously or unconsciously endorses the
treatment of Mary by Miss Brody and her set. This endorsement of the treatment of Mary result in a
narration with biased details which brings into question the entire narrative discourse because if she is
unreliable toward Mary, then we can presume that she might be unreliable towards other characters or

However, some people oppose the policy citing that it is the right of the citizens to ensure adequate
protection. They hold that the policy should not apply as it is bound to infringe of the citizens basic
rights (Totten Pedersen, 2012, p. 468). In my perspective and attitude, I think the introduction of gun
control policy is a good idea whose time has come. This is evident since it will facilitate the
prevalence of sanity in the nation that operates under strong democratic ideals. Gun control should be
encouraged at all cost as it holds the capacity of eliminating social insanity. The existing similarities
with the group to be put under study is that we are all US citizens who believe in respect to humanity,
life, and rights, however, we differ on the moral aspect and the extent to which the use of guns should
be allowed. I do not support the imposition of strict gun control policy although the group thinks that
the policy should not be applied. I am not a native anthropologist, however, I like interacting with
people of diverse background to understand the major issues that affects them including social
matters. My aim of understanding the underlying issues is to contribute by influencing individuals
viewpoints especially on issues that require critical thinking (Kuper, 2006, p. 1). For instance, I would

Mexico Is The Second Largest Economy Of Latin America Essay
According to the World Bank (2016), Mexico is the second largest economy in Latin America (Iliff,
2016). Mexico is one of the largest auto producers and exporters. Mexico, produced 3.4 million
vehicles in 2015, raking seventh largest vehicle producer in the world and first in Latin America
(Administration, I. T. (2016). Automotive manufacturing is growing, and large automotive companies
such as Nissan, Mazda, Volkswagen, and GM, who have plants already established in Mexico, are
now planning to expand their facilities. Half of the cars sold in Mexico are made there, and the other
half is imported (Iliff, 2016). The business cultural environment in Mexico consists of families driving
small old 1990 s pick up trucks. In Mexico, owning a pick up means a lot, because this type of cars are
used for family, affordability, durability, efficiency, and convenience. Some include Nissan King Cab,
Ford F 150, and Chevy Cheyenne and Silverado. As of 2015, Mexico has broken a new record of new
vehicle sales of 1.38 million units, a 19% gain since 2014 and decreased used vehicles sales import of
180,000 from 1.6 million. The future consumption is expected to increase by 500,000 units and could
reach up 2 millions units (Iliff, 2016). Mexico had freely imported used vehicles from the United
States, and due to that, there was a large demand for used cars. The industry officials argue, A crush of
used cars hurts new cars. If a customer can not get a decent price at trade in, deals fall

The Neo Traditional Family Structure Essay
The neo traditional family structure is subsiding and is being replaced by the now more popular
egalitarian family structure. Before the neo traditional family structure was considered ideal, with one
sole financial provider for the family (usually the male), but this family structure is more difficult to
maintain because t is difficult for one person o be the breadwinner; also, the unfinished revolution has
also led to viewing this family structure as unappealing because it can be limiting for one spouse
(usually the woman). Thus, egalitarian family structures are now becoming more popular, as:
household work, childcare, and financial contribution is more equally divided between the two
partners. However, I learned that many still hold some neo traditional values, more so the males in my
sample than did the females. Initially, I thought that culture would be the largest determining in a
persons desired family structure, but the data showed otherwise. For instance, I thought that
underrepresented minorities, such as, Latinos and African Americans would hold more neo traditional
views simply because of culture. Interestingly, I learned from my analysis that this was not necessarily
the case; instead, I found that many of the participants had intermixed components of both neo
traditional family structure and an egalitarian family structure. Many of their responses contradicted
with their desired family structure. I think that this mentality is leading to new hybrid family

Examples Of Flattery In Julius Caesar
One of the themes from Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is that power and flattery can affect
people and what they believe. It is discovered in Act I of Julius Caesar that Caesar himself is in a
strong position of power. A follower by the name Mark Antony claimed that when Caesar says do this
, it is perform d. (sic) Julius Caesar s power was able to control lives of those around him in such a
way that it put fear into certain people. As the plot of Julius Caesar thickens, his power inevitably led
to his downfall. In Act II and Act III , Brutus had his own sense of power such that others respected
him and accepted the way he did things, such as plot against Caesar. Brutus used respective power in

Commercial Truck Drivers Research Paper
Vehicles are an iconic, essential part of American culture. For goods to be shipped between states,
commercial truck drivers have to have vehicles that can carry massive amounts of products.
Unfortunately, these trucks are not held to the same standard as personal trucks. Weak federal
regulations and profit driven manufacturers put profits over safety for truck drivers. As a result,
commercial vehicles do not have the same safety requirements as personal vehicles.
A large commercial truck can easily weigh 20 times as much as a passenger car. If a commercial truck
crashes into a small passenger car, the small vehicle will be completely crushed. This problem is
worsened by the fact that many drivers are tired and trying to beat the deadline.

trait they have in common in their governments political view, communism. Communism was seen as
one of the biggest threats to the world once it swallowed China and Russia. Communism is a theory or

The legislative branch and the judicial branches of government are both in control of who is elected
into office and how people vote. Today, communism is still with China and Russia. However one little
detail of power has changed when the USSR became Russia. China focuses on the preservation of
power in the hands of one party and on the other hand Russia is obsessed with the preservation of
power in the hands of one man (blogs.reuters.com). Both countries also had conflicts with the United
States about communism and their way of thinking about government. They constantly criticize the
rest of the worlds ways of government. China and Russia had many similarities with communism and
government, but they also had many differences that separated their thinking and beliefs. One of the
most major differences was how long the rule of communism lasted in both of these countries. China s
communism lasted but Soviet did not (classroom.synonym.com). Over the decades political parties

do not see or cannot explain and because of it, we protected ourselves with artificial elements in a

point that in modern societies some of us still use this type of protection in our bodies (e.g., small

Romance Essay
Romance is something that should never end. Romance brings love, happiness, and a joyful life. One
of the true definitions of romance is, an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an especially heroic
era, adventure, or activity (Romance, n.d.). However, when someone thinks of romance they can see
how much of a concept it is. It could be different for everyone because not everyone s definition of
romance or romantic activity is the same. For a man named Jim, it could be him offering his arm to a
woman when they are walking. Yet, on the other hand, for a random girl named Emily, it could be
having the man walk on the streetside of the sidewalk so he could protect her. Romance started
centuries ago and is not going to end anytime soon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, the idea of romance did not just pop up like a jack in the box. The origins of the modern
celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L. Maurer
(2017), from Nationals Women s History Museum had stated that During the 18th century, society
encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic attachments. This
was a decided change from past practice when marriages had been arranged...between families or
clans. So the young people at that point had to figure out what they liked and what they did not like in
a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also discussed how romance had fit in on this new
practice:
Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction.
Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young women,
perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a time of
freedom and choice.
The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to reject
them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the garden,
taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were talking to the
lady. They either had to teach themselves based on what the woman they were trying to pursue, or

My World Issues Class Analysis
Throughout the course of my World Issues class, numerous themes and concepts were explored
spanning across entire time periods and geographical locations. The first exercise completed in class
was a visual representation of the connections between all themes categorized under the umbrella
term: world issues. This included diversity, economic disparity, environmental issues, global health,
nutrition/food security, accessibility, human rights, peace/war, media, education, and identity. Each of
us found connection between every one of these themes; they are simultaneously independent and
interconnected a change in any sector can affect all of the others. One major connection I found in the
course was the concept of citizens clinging to social status quo and the resulting political/interpersonal
violence due to that close minded rejection of difference. For example, violent acts by Buddhist

Many of these issues can be boiled down go a couple major themes that of power politics, identity
politics, religious differences, and how all of these themes are affected through the lense of the media.
One key example we talked about was the relationship between Buddhists from Thailand. The deeply
rooted history of Buddhism in Thailand can be linked with the political struggles between that of
communism and capitalism. Certain Buddhist monks like Phra Kittiwut Tho argue that the murder of
communists would not violate any of the nonviolent ideologies of Buddhism. This has an interesting
link with the historical perception of Christianity in the 1100 s around the first crusade when The Pope
argued that war and killing were acceptable under theological terms if it was against non christian
people. The conflict in Thailand demonstrates to me that, even though religion and politics might be
somewhat separated, there is an inherent link when pushed hard

Marriage and the union of couples regarding their sex has been a nationwide issue in the United States

On the March 7, 2000 ballot in California, voters approved Proposition 22. Proposition 22 legally

ruling, the proponents of Proposition 8 immediately filled an appeal of the decision to the Ninth
Circuit Court of Appeals. A hearing before a three judge panel of the Ninth Circuit began and the
panel asked the California Supreme Court to clarify whether or not the petitioners have standing under
Article III of the Constitution to argue this case (CAC). While the case is on appeal, the proponents

motion is declined but the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The
question of the petitioners standing then moves to the California Supreme Court where they rule that
the proponents had the right to pursue an appeal. By February 2012 the Ninth Circuit upheld Judge
Walker s decision declaring Proposition 8 unconstitutional, but the propositions backers don t give up
yet. They then proceed to ask the Ninth Circuit to have a larger judge panel to review the decision, but
they are denied. Instead the United States Supreme Court agreed to hear the

Merri Creek Case Study

INTRODUCTION:
Our sites (Figure 1.) were spread along the lowest reach of Merri Creek before it runs into the Yarra
River. As a direct result of this there is an extensive valley from the constant presence of fluvial
processes over geological time. The landform patterns at our sites were extensively governed by the
movement and availability of water, with escarpments, gullies, cliffs and spurs of varying steepness all
observed. Figure 1. Topographic map of the meandering form of Merri Creek (topographic map.com,

Wurundjeri People(39000BC 1835) were hunter/gatherers and actively managed the environment such
that they did not permanently deplete its resources. The creek and surrounding lands were important to
Aborigines for food, shelter and travel. Where Merri Creek and the Yarra River join at Dights Falls
(site 6) was once an important Aboriginal meeting place. (Jackson, 2018) The area was then used
pastorally and subsequently deforested to be used for agriculture, mostly as grazing land for livestock
(1835 1850).
Now the surrounding area consists mainly of residential development of houses and recreational
facilities (1850 present). (City of Melbourne, 2018)
This area along Merri Creek now has two main uses; recreation (Merri Creek bike and walking Trail,
Rotunda Wetland, Geofrey Knott reserve) (walking paths, viewing platforms and seating areas) and
transport (Merri Creek Trail, Heidelberg Rd/Eastern Freeway)
Extensive amounts of litter were observed both in (figure 8) and around the creek, this aspect of
human interaction clearly is degrative within this environment Increased flood risk due to surface

Introduction. The Film, Gallipoli, Directed By Peter Weir,
Introduction The film, Gallipoli, directed by Peter Weir, depicts one of the most controversial aspects
of Australian history. The film depicts heritage myths regarding Australian culture; and Australia s size
in the world at large. Weir s Gallipoli is taken from an Australian perspective and presents a
compressed narrative of the events that shaped Australian society during World War I. The 20th
Century saw the emergence of cinematography as a primary medium. One aspect of cinematography
that is popular with audiences is war movies; movies that depict key battles that helped to shape the
countries involved . Gallipoli is not a war movie or even an anti war movie; it serves instead as a
celebration of Australia s past . Through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The communication mishap required Frank to run from the trenches to the base camp on the beach.
Frank had to beg the British commander to stop the raid; however even though the commander
conceded to canceling the raid, Frank didn t have enough time to get back to the trenches to relay the
information to Major Barton. Frank arrived too late and Archy was killed in the raid. The victimology
of Australia in regards to World War I, as well as the destruction and assimilation of the indigenous
people into Britain society; showcases the negative relationship Britain has with Australia. This scene
in particular paints an accurate picture of the relationship between the Australians and the British
during, and after World War I. As stated before, Archy is depicted by Weir as the old Australia
therefore that makes Frank the new Australia .
The second character that Weir introduces is Frank (played by Mel Gibson). It is implied that Frank is
Irish, with a long standing distrust of the British due to the fact that the British killed his father in a
battle in Dublin. Franks doesn t want to join the war, simply because he doesn t want to help the
British. He is depicted as a city slicker, that doesn t possess the qualities needed in combat. In one
scene, it shows that Frank doesn t even know how to ride a horse; which was a critical aspect of the

Serena s Paper Doll
Arriving at the private clinic just North of Holby, Serena sat nervously in the passenger s seat. She
luckily had the rest of the day off as she was only working the morning clinic; Ric on the other hand
had escaped work for an hour to accompany his girlfriend. Ric had not disclosed why he had to take
some time away, just that it lay personal. Despite saying that they would talk things over the following
morning, they failed to follow through. Serena put up her defences; she decided there was nothing to
talk about until they had the facts. This had left them with nothing but a four day wait to see Obs
Gynae Consultant Michael Reid. Yet, it started to become more apparent that Serena found herself
with child. Heartburn had become an issue, and Serena developed a taste for Donner Kebab something
she only ever recalled eating as a University Student, after a night out. She found the concept of eating
such vile processed food antagonising, the craving kicked in from nowhere. Tiredness kicked in,
hitting her like a wave, she woke up that morning feeling utterly exhausted. Serena had hoped that this
was all in her head; her body was just acting pregnant when it was not, and she could not contemplate
risking everything in her life for pregnancy. Nevertheless, no time like the present, and Serena did Ric,
walked arm in arm into the clinic. Everything seemed so chic and modern, more like a modern living
room to a penthouse apartment that saw life once or twice a week. Before

The Problem of Media and Violence
Violence has become a serious problem in America. From Sandy Hook Elementary to the Aurora
Colorado shootings, terrorism has crept deeper into the culture. From 1982 1992 there were eight
incidences of terrorism. From 2002 2012 there have been seventeen (Geigner). The growth at which
these events are spreading is exponential. Modern terrorism did not begin until approximately the
1950s when it changed from guerrilla tactics used by a nation to the to the type common today, non
state terrorism. These assailants fight for no flag, have no rules, and will do whatever they feel like at
any given moment (Zalman). The violence these radicals produce is cataclysmic. However, instead of
being distressed by this violence, citizens latch onto the offenders. They give the assailant the fame
and popularity that he or she desires. For example, within hours of Boston Bombings, the faces of the
two assassins were broadcasted everywhere in the media, and rightly so. The police needed the help of
the public to find and capture these criminals. But constant media coverage three weeks after the event
was unnecessary. Many say that sensationalist media, not gun control is the reason for attacks of
violence. Those who terrorize the nation are held up almost as heroes. Their names are plastered on
every news station around the world. Assailants will always find ways to kill even with the extreme
control of guns. But, without the publicity and the fame, psychopaths would not need to kill innocent

Thoreau s House Near Walden Analysis
The location of Thoreau s house near walden pond is detailed revealing its location is near the
Fitchburg Railroad. The locomotive is perceived as disruptive, as it interrupts his state of serenity in
nature with its loud noise making him irritated. THerefore, the railroad symbolizes the departure from
a simplistic, spiritual life connected with nature and the transition to a an industrial America. Thoreau
has previously criticized the industrial revolution for its technological innovation that disassociate an
individual from their spiritual beliefs turning them into a machine. The narrator aspires for a natural

It can also symbolize all that is wrong with the human mind, including avarice and moral fallibility.

Plum Point Park Essay
Issue Proposition Plum Point Park was once a place for sprouted overgrown weeds and rotting piers.
Through initiative and optimism, West Ghent Civic League proposed to transition the bleak plot of
land into a permanent park in the early 1990 s. 10 years and $1.5 million later, the park is now
considered an open natural refuge for local residents and home for various wildlife living along the
Elizabeth River. Granted Plum Point Park is an artificial park, there is still a lot of potentials that the
park can amount to. Due to the lack of green spaces and aesthetically appealing areas throughout the
park, the scenery can become very monotonous. In August of 2016, Global Shapers Norfolk (GSN)

The Innocence of the Devil by Nawal El Saadawi
In this novel, the reader (including myself) should have sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss. I felt
horrible for both of these characters in the novel. Ganat was the proud and defiant woman who was
physically attractive. Narguiss was the head nurse in the asylum who was Ganat s best friend. I had
sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss because of what they had to go through in the novel. Ganat was
accused for being born with her eyes wide open, not wearing a veil and supporting Satan. The judge
that tried her was an oppressive man and sent her to an asylum for treatment. I thought it was injustice
that Ganat had no say in what was accused of her. Having wide open eyes when born was in no way
Ganat s fault yet she was punished for it, simply unbelievable! I understand that in the Islamic culture,
a women needs to keep their head down but what does a new born infant know about culture/religion?
I can actually relate to Ganat s predicament she had about being born with her eyes wide open. My
family friend gave birth to a baby girl who was had a darker skin tone than anyone else in the family
and the father hated baby girl because of it. He said Indian girls are fair not dark skinned. He ended up
beating his wife for giving birth to a
dark skinned baby and kicked her and the baby out of the house. I don t see why it was the mother s or
even the baby s fault that she was a darker shade when the father himself was dark. This goes to show
how culture can really impact someone and

How Did The Constitution Unite Australia
Since the time of the first fleet until now, Australian law has been divided between two types of
Australians, the settlers and the indigenous. Since the time of the first fleet, the settlers put into place
English law to rule the land known as Australia and make laws on the rights of the people, the
indigenous and the land. Since then, Australian law has come a long way in the development of a
fairer constitution and enacting laws for the indigenous to close the gap between them and the settlers.
There has been many landmark rulings in the fight for equality for the indigenous community,
including the case of Mabo and the case of Wik, all of which will be discussed further on. The

groups. The Australian Constitution did not and still does not make satisfactory procurement for
Australia s first peoples. In the fight for recognition, the Indigenous Australians have managed to win
landmark cases, as mentioned above, to place themselves in the constitution and close the gap.
In the case of Mabo v Queensland 1992, it was a case on whether the Meriam people had customary
and traditional rights in the land the Murray Islands, and whether or not the Australian law protected
those rights.
It was held by the High Court of Australia that the Meriam people were entitled to the possession, use

recognition of the Indigenous people was finally acknowledged, removing the original doctrine that
Australia was terra nullius at the time of the first

Global Health Agendas And Domestic Government s Health...
This is where I examine the intersection of global health agendas and domestic government s health
policies. Recipient countries are encouraged to claim ownership for development strategies, and one
way is through Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP). These papers would be published and
submitted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or World Bank every few years detailing where a
country has come from and its strategy in the short or medium term to reach poverty reduction goals.
The PRSP goals for both countries are aligned with the MDGs. However, although Liberia and Sierra
Leone had similar health objectives in their PRSPs, the outcomes for both countries are different.
Internationally, Liberia was heralded as making the greatest progress in its health status as it had the
highest increase of life expectancy in the world (19.7 years) from 1990 to 2012 (WHO 2013).
According to Nkwanga (2015), international donors used Liberia s achievement as proof of success of
the aid programs. Sierra Leone on the other hand did not garner the same achievements with these
performance based measures. According to Health Poverty Action s report (Sharples 2015), Sierra
Leone ranks very low on the Human Development Index at 183 out of 187 countries. It had a high
infant mortality rate of 107 deaths per 1,000 live births and 1165 maternal deaths for every 100,000
live births, one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world (Sharples 2015 p. 4). However, the

Themes and Symbolism in The Odyssey
In each story, the themes and symbols in them can bring a diverse look on the way the story is
interpreted and told. The Odyssey was written by the poet Homer dating all the back to the 8th
century. In the Greek epic poem, Homer tells the story of the main character Odysseus journey home
from the Trojan War. Many themes relating to the human condition are prevalent in the various
adventures faced by Odysseus, his men, and his family over the ten year journey. Homer uses
symbolism as well to portray these themes of wits trumping strength, man s weakness to temptation,
man s desire to seek revenge, and loyalty among characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Not only was the crew able to use enough will to overcome temptations, they also got out of difficult
situations using brain over brawn.
The first example of Odysseus using his brain over his brawn is when he tricks the cyclops into
drinking too much wine, causing him to pass out leading to Odysseus and his crew being able to
escape. This was one of the first major acts that got Odysseus crew to believe in him and follow him.
Another example of Odysseus using his wits is when he makes his crew put beeswax in their ears and
to tie him to a pole when going past the Sirens, who are creatures who sing beautiful songs luring
boats from the sea into their rocks crashing the ships. Again Odysseus using his wits to his advantage
when he finally has returned home to Ithaca and has a goddess turn him into an old man so he can
disguise himself to the suitors before he strings his bow and kills them all. To end the Trojan War,
Odysseus was the one who came up with the idea of the Trojan Horse that allowed Greece to defeat
Troy and overrun the city. From beginning to end does Odysseus use his brain to get him and his crew
out of tricky situations that many people would not have gotten out of. While Odysseus was able to
escape many close calls, sometimes the desire for revenge caught up to him.
The first example of revenge is when Poseidon seeks revenge on Odysseus for blinding the cyclops.
The cyclops then request help from his father, Hear me,

Research Paper On Arc De Seanmphe
The Arc de Triomphe, which is also known as the Arc de Triomphe de l étoile, is a huge, triumphant
arch in Paris, France. This monument is one of the world s best known memorial landmarks. It
remains at the focal point of the Place Charles de Gaulle, which was earlier called the Place de l étoile.
After Napoleon s incredible win at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, he commanded the Arc de
Triomphe be built in order to praise the accomplishments of the French military. The arch, planned by
Jean François Thérèse Chalgrin, is 164 feet high and 148 feet wide. It sits in a round square, where 12
roads transmit, making a star. Development of the arch started on August 15, 1806, which was
Napoleon s birthday. Barely more than the base had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fancy sculptures praising military triumphs of the Revolution and the First Empire were completed on
the exterior of the arch s four platforms by François Rude, Jean Pierre Cortot, and Antoine Etex. The
most acclaimed of those sculptures is Rude s Departure of the Volunteers of 1792, also known as La
Marseillaise. Different surfaces are embellished with the names of several officers and fights. A
stairway of 284 steps extends from the lowest point to the highest point of the landmark; a lift goes
partially up the landmark. However, to get to the top, where a watching deck is found, you have to
climb the rest of the way. A little gallery with interesting displays on the history behind the arch lies
one level beneath the observation area. Underneath the arch is France s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
from 1921. A fire of recognition, which was first lit in 1923, is revived each night. A celebration
announcing the creation of the 1918 peace negotiation that finished World War I is held at the Arc de
Triomphe each year.
The Arc de Triomphe keeps on acting as a famous image of France, to the nation itself and to the
world. The caskets of many inspiring French presences, for example, Victor Hugo and Ferdinand
Foch, have briefly stayed there before their burial somewhere else. Also, victory parades often walk
past the curve, both those of attacking forces, for example, Germany, in 1871 and 1940, and of France
and its allies, for example, in 1918 and 1944 upon the freedom of Paris during World War II and in
1945 after the finish of the war in

Supreme Court case in history, Marbury v. Madison s (1803) presided over the commissions of several
judges appointed in the final hours of the Adams administration. Chief Justice Marshall would deny
the petition and writ, claiming the court did not have the power to issue them however; he awarded the
plaintiffs their commissions. As result Marshall s decision established judicial review allowing federal

New Hampshire passed several laws to revise the charter to a public university. Furthermore, the
change in charter would modify the board of trustees; as a result, the trustees filed a lawsuit claiming
the newly passed New Hampshire laws were in breech of the Constitution. The court ruled in
agreement with Dartmouth; the laws violated the Constitution, which prohibited a state from changing

impairing the obligation of contract. The courts verdict limited the power of states rights including the
power to obstruct charters while simultaneously boosting the powers of the contract clause. In
conclusion, the decision asserted the Supreme Court could nullify any laws they found

Public Health Nursing
According to the author, the assumptions to action research prior to the process were mostly based on
the perception that of Public Health Nursing as just caring for the sick. The author focuses on nursing
roles in providing care to help solve the complex problems that is threatening the southern state of
Virginia. However, after carrying out the research on the various evolutionary stages, it was
discovered that Public Health Nursing was more than that. Also, the author assumed the need to
emphasize collaboration and partnerships with communities and populations. As such, it involved the
understanding of cultures, politics, economics and other psychosocial problems which in one way or
the other affected the people s health. These core competencies are necessary to implement
community participatory in health promotion. The central complex problems include the frail elderly
population, teen mothers, homeless individuals, smokers, overweight or obesity and youth substance
use and prevention (Kulbok, Thatcher, Park, Meszaros, 2012). Kulbok, et. al, (2012), define public
health nursing practice as the perspective, knowledge base, and the focus of care, rather than by the
site in which these nurses practice. Additionally, from the author s point of view she found out that
Public Health Nursing (PHN) is a type of model that encompasses a one way flow of resources from a
nurse to a patient.

Army Respect
What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust,
character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If you can
t respect yourself then you won t be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to treat others the
way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can t have team work and care for other
peoples well being.
It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows both
up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills, strengths, and sacrifices of the people
who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and with effort, his troops come to respect him
as well. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, without loyalty, respect is not present. If you are a disloyal member of the team you fail
to contribute to the team in a manner that is respectable. The lack of loyalty is disrespectful and in turn
awards you none for yourself.
Respect is described as esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality
or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. In the United
States Army it is inaccurate to say you are required to respect the man or woman behind the rank. The
greater rank does not imply a greater human being. However, It would be quite accurate to say that in
the mechanics of the relationship between a lower enlisted soldier and a Non commissioned Officer
regardless of the enlisted soldiers opinion of the person the lower enlisted service member will respect
the rank and treat the Non commissioned officer with the same respect that is due to the rank worn.
This hierarchical design is intended to maintain an order based on qualification and experience.
It states in the Phantom Warrior Standard book that every soldier obtains upon arrival to Fort Hood
that, Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline. Respect to
seniors will be extended at all times. I realize now

When radio first arrived to the scene, it was not automatically made available to consumers. Initially,
the United States Navy had control of the wireless telegraph communication during World War I. All
of amateur and commercial usage stopped when the United States participated in the war; instead,
stations were taken over by government control. Radio developed gradually during the first decade of
the twentieth century. It was not until 1920 when conglomerates owned radio stations. Even at that
point, many people did not predict radio to have the power it did later on. Without knowing it, radio
would soon permanently change the lives of individuals around the world. In contrast to the other

  • 4. Justification Of The Atomic Bomb On 6 August 1945 the Enola Gay, a B 29 bomber, dropped the first atomic bomb to be used in actual combat on Hiroshima, Japan. The aftermath of this single bomb was over 130,000 dead and wounded. The skyline of Hiroshima was almost completely leveled. This caught the Japanese completely off guard. This as well as the bombing of Nagasaki three days later led to the final and unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire and the end to World War II. The end result of these bombings outweighed the alternative of invading the Japanese mainland instead of unleashing atomic weapons on the Japanese by a great deal. The months and years that lead up to this massive blow against the Japanese were full of heated debates and arguments on the moral implications of using an atomic weapon against a civilian target. At the time the Japanese were running rampant in the Pacific and our nation was fighting a three front war: one front in the Pacific, one front in Europe, and the final front in North Africa. This placed a great deal of strain on our wartime resources, the tactic of Island Hopping was becoming successful but the amount of manpower being needed for the other two fronts meant that the Pacific front was not able to become a top priority. The Manhattan Project had been underway since 1942 as a last resort option. The Manhattan Project was of the utmost importance and conducted with the highest levels of security possible. Babbitt soon realizes that it s time for a change but after being in the system for too long its quiet hard for him to pull himself away from that dark world of proper society. Babbitt currently lives in the city of Zenith, an industrialized mid west city where you pretty much are separated from what you have and what you don t have. It s a very ignorant city where people see this but it s actually speaking present time because it s sort of the same in present world. • 6. Disadvantages Of Harmonization Of Law As Cohen (2009) stated, harmonization can happen in a variety of ways, ranging from the decisions of individual states to reform their own legal structures to conform to a common standard to the adoption of a multilateral treaty in which states commit themselves to adopt a common legal model. (Leebron, 1996) This can be seen in some countries who have adapted different ways of reforming their own model while it can also be seen in regional areas mainly the European Union (EU) while the Association of Southeast nations (ASEAN) have just adopted it last year. There is a benefit as well as challenge in doing harmonization of law. The researcher thinks that the only benefit is the reason why it is mainly good for all the countries involved. The only benefit is that it makes trading easier. The researcher thinks that the countries involved could see increase in their economy since trading is easier. A country ... The first challenge the researcher saw is if the ASEAN countries would meet the financial criteria that would be set once the ASEAN dollar is in use. When euro was launched, not every member at that time joined immediately. At the same time, Greece did not qualify but was allowed to join in 2001. It is also important to note that Britain and Denmark uses their own currency. If ASEAN adopts the ASEAN dollar, questions such as if they are all qualified, what about those who are not qualified and those who do not want to use the ASEAN dollar. The currency right now shows that Brunei and Singapore are above every other member while Malaysia is catching up, others are far behind. • 7. Important Place In My Life One of the most important places in my life is a quiet place in Cook County, Illinois. That place would be a cemetery called St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. To many, this may be a weird place to choose, but to me it is a safe place to vent and think. You see, St. Mary is the resting place of my mother, Kimberly Bitsie. Those reasons, are why it is the most important place in my world. Cook County is not a place I have ever lived, but my family and I try to visit as often as we can. My Dad, little brother and I usually try visit once every two to three years, because we visit our grandparents while in Illinois. When we visit though, we always try to make time to visit the cemetery because we don t know the next we will be able to see her. It s about a thirty five minute drive from my grandparent s house, but it s worth the drive. We spend on average thirty to forty minutes at the cemetery. Before we go into the cemetery, we always stop by this one store near the cemetery, that sells flower and decorations, to buy a spinner to put on mom s grave. I was only four when my mom died of cancer, and I only have a few memories of her. So, being able to visit and try to connect is what makes it special to me. • 8. African American History In the early 1920s Marcus Garvey captured the interest of many black Americans when he emphasized black nationalism and black separatism (White et. al. 2012). In 1966, former leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Stokely Carmichael, echoed Garvey s philosophy when he coined the term Black Power at a rally in Mississippi (Brown 2014). Introduced as an oratorical tool, black power urged race pride and race unity to inspire militancy among black Americans. It was founded on the belief that black survival depended on the exercise of black power to effect economic and political change in black communities. Alongside Malcolm X s rhetoric of empowerment and the aggressiveness of groups such as the Black Panther Party, Carmichael s vision of black power was not representative of integration what he believed spoke to the problem of blackness (Carmichael 1966). Interestingly, affirmative action, a then new approach to empowering black Americans, undermined this basic tenant. It gave African Americans preferential treatment in hiring and school admissions, which effectually assimilated blacks into majorly white institutions. (Affirmative Action 2014) Thus, affirmative action adopted a more inclusive philosophy. As such, it is easy to conclude that these two ideologies lie on opposite sides of the race relations spectrum; that despite originating to bring about societal justice for African Americans, black power advocates sought their freedoms through ... The book starts off in medias res and continues to make use of both analepses and prolepses. Many believe that an omniscient narrator, in part because of the anachrony, recounts the book but in this essay I will argue that the book has an unreliable narrator through examination of the narration of character of Mary. On many occasions Muriel Spark uses narration to endorse the treatment of Mary by the other characters, meaning that the story s narration contains the opinions of the narrator. In my perspective and attitude, I think the introduction of gun control policy is a good idea whose time has come. This is evident since it will facilitate the prevalence of sanity in the nation that operates under strong democratic ideals. Gun control should be encouraged at all cost as it holds the capacity of eliminating social insanity. The existing similarities with the group to be put under study is that we are all US citizens who believe in respect to humanity, life, and rights, however, we differ on the moral aspect and the extent to which the use of guns should be allowed. Before the neo traditional family structure was considered ideal, with one sole financial provider for the family (usually the male), but this family structure is more difficult to maintain because t is difficult for one person o be the breadwinner; also, the unfinished revolution has also led to viewing this family structure as unappealing because it can be limiting for one spouse (usually the woman). Thus, egalitarian family structures are now becoming more popular, as: household work, childcare, and financial contribution is more equally divided between the two partners. However, I learned that many still hold some neo traditional values, more so the males in my sample than did the females. Initially, I thought that culture would be the largest determining in a persons desired family structure, but the data showed otherwise. For instance, I thought that underrepresented minorities, such as, Latinos and African Americans would hold more neo traditional views simply because of culture. Interestingly, I learned from my analysis that this was not necessarily the case; instead, I found that many of the participants had intermixed components of both neo traditional family structure and an egalitarian family structure. The origins of the modern celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L. Maurer (2017), from Nationals Women s History Museum had stated that During the 18th century, society encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic attachments. This was a decided change from past practice when marriages had been arranged...between families or clans. So the young people at that point had to figure out what they liked and what they did not like in a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also discussed how romance had fit in on this new practice: Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction. Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young women, perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a time of freedom and choice. The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were talking to the lady. From 1982 1992 there were eight incidences of terrorism. From 2002 2012 there have been seventeen (Geigner). The growth at which these events are spreading is exponential. Modern terrorism did not begin until approximately the 1950s when it changed from guerrilla tactics used by a nation to the to the type common today, non state terrorism. These assailants fight for no flag, have no rules, and will do whatever they feel like at any given moment (Zalman). The violence these radicals produce is cataclysmic. However, instead of being distressed by this violence, citizens latch onto the offenders. They give the assailant the fame and popularity that he or she desires. For example, within hours of Boston Bombings, the faces of the two assassins were broadcasted everywhere in the media, and rightly so. The police needed the help of the public to find and capture these criminals. But constant media coverage three weeks after the event was unnecessary. I felt horrible for both of these characters in the novel. Ganat was the proud and defiant woman who was physically attractive. Narguiss was the head nurse in the asylum who was Ganat s best friend. I had sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss because of what they had to go through in the novel. Ganat was accused for being born with her eyes wide open, not wearing a veil and supporting Satan. The judge that tried her was an oppressive man and sent her to an asylum for treatment. I thought it was injustice that Ganat had no say in what was accused of her. Having wide open eyes when born was in no way Ganat s fault yet she was punished for it, simply unbelievable! My family friend gave birth to a baby girl who was had a darker skin tone than anyone else in the family and the father hated baby girl because of it. He said Indian girls are fair not dark skinned. He ended up beating his wife for giving birth to a dark skinned baby and kicked her and the baby out of the house. I don t see why it was the mother s or even the baby s fault that she was a darker shade when the father himself was dark. This goes to show how culture can really impact someone and ... • 29. How Did The Constitution Unite Australia Since the time of the first fleet until now, Australian law has been divided between two types of Australians, the settlers and the indigenous. Since the time of the first fleet, the settlers put into place English law to rule the land known as Australia and make laws on the rights of the people, the indigenous and the land. Since then, Australian law has come a long way in the development of a fairer constitution and enacting laws for the indigenous to close the gap between them and the settlers. There has been many landmark rulings in the fight for equality for the indigenous community, including the case of Mabo and the case of Wik, all of which will be discussed further on. In the case of Mabo v Queensland 1992, it was a case on whether the Meriam people had customary and traditional rights in the land the Murray Islands, and whether or not the Australian law protected those rights. It was held by the High Court of Australia that the Meriam people were entitled to the possession, use and occupation and enjoyment of the land of the Murray Islands. • 30. Global Health Agendas And Domestic Government s Health... This is where I examine the intersection of global health agendas and domestic government s health policies. Recipient countries are encouraged to claim ownership for development strategies, and one way is through Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP). These papers would be published and submitted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or World Bank every few years detailing where a country has come from and its strategy in the short or medium term to reach poverty reduction goals. The PRSP goals for both countries are aligned with the MDGs. However, although Liberia and Sierra Leone had similar health objectives in their PRSPs, the outcomes for both countries are different. Internationally, Liberia was heralded as making the greatest progress in its health status as it had the highest increase of life expectancy in the world (19.7 years) from 1990 to 2012 (WHO 2013). According to Nkwanga (2015), international donors used Liberia s achievement as proof of success of the aid programs. Sierra Leone on the other hand did not garner the same achievements with these performance based measures. According to Health Poverty Action s report (Sharples 2015), Sierra Leone ranks very low on the Human Development Index at 183 out of 187 countries. It had a high infant mortality rate of 107 deaths per 1,000 live births and 1165 maternal deaths for every 100,000 live births, one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world (Sharples 2015 p. 4). This was one of the first major acts that got Odysseus crew to believe in him and follow him. Another example of Odysseus using his wits is when he makes his crew put beeswax in their ears and to tie him to a pole when going past the Sirens, who are creatures who sing beautiful songs luring boats from the sea into their rocks crashing the ships. Again Odysseus using his wits to his advantage when he finally has returned home to Ithaca and has a goddess turn him into an old man so he can disguise himself to the suitors before he strings his bow and kills them all. This monument is one of the world s best known memorial landmarks. It remains at the focal point of the Place Charles de Gaulle, which was earlier called the Place de l étoile. After Napoleon s incredible win at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, he commanded the Arc de Triomphe be built in order to praise the accomplishments of the French military. The arch, planned by Jean François Thérèse Chalgrin, is 164 feet high and 148 feet wide. It sits in a round square, where 12 roads transmit, making a star. A stairway of 284 steps extends from the lowest point to the highest point of the landmark; a lift goes partially up the landmark. However, to get to the top, where a watching deck is found, you have to climb the rest of the way. • 35. Public Health Nursing According to the author, the assumptions to action research prior to the process were mostly based on the perception that of Public Health Nursing as just caring for the sick. The author focuses on nursing roles in providing care to help solve the complex problems that is threatening the southern state of Virginia. However, after carrying out the research on the various evolutionary stages, it was discovered that Public Health Nursing was more than that. Also, the author assumed the need to emphasize collaboration and partnerships with communities and populations. As such, it involved the understanding of cultures, politics, economics and other psychosocial problems which in one way or the other affected the people s health. These core competencies are necessary to implement community participatory in health promotion. The central complex problems include the frail elderly population, teen mothers, homeless individuals, smokers, overweight or obesity and youth substance use and prevention (Kulbok, Thatcher, Park, Meszaros, 2012). Kulbok, et. al, (2012), define public health nursing practice as the perspective, knowledge base, and the focus of care, rather than by the site in which these nurses practice. • 36. Army Respect What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust, character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If you can t respect yourself then you won t be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can t have team work and care for other peoples well being. It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows both up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills, strengths, and sacrifices of the people who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and with effort, his troops come to respect him as well. That ... In the United States Army it is inaccurate to say you are required to respect the man or woman behind the rank. The greater rank does not imply a greater human being. Radio developed gradually during the first decade of the twentieth century. It was not until 1920 when conglomerates owned radio stations.
