A 24-year-old woman presented with multiple fractures from minor falls. Imaging found osteoporosis and an ultrasound detected a 3-2cm hypoechoic, hypervascular mass in her thyroid gland. Blood tests showed very high PTH and calcium levels. She underwent right lobectomy where a well-bordered, soft tissue tumor was removed and found to be a parathyroid adenoma on microscopic examination, suggesting her fractures and osteoporosis were caused by hyperparathyroidism from the adenoma.
