This document summarizes a presentation on malaria vaccination goals and strategies. It outlines the global burden of malaria, with most cases and deaths occurring in sub-Saharan Africa. The original goal was to develop an 80% effective vaccine by 2025 that protects for 4 years. The updated goal is a world free of malaria partly due to affordable vaccines preventing disease/death from P. falciparum and P. vivax in all ages. Priority programs include the current RTS,S vaccine for children (ppRTS,S), evaluating RTS,S for elimination (eeRTS,S), and developing next generation RTS,S vaccines (eeRTS,S+) to contribute to elimination.
