Carbon nanotubes are sheets of graphite that are rolled up and capped at both ends. There are two types: multi-walled, which are tubes within tubes, and single-walled, which are single tubes about 1nm in diameter. Carbon nanotubes can be conductors or semiconductors depending on their diameter, and they were the material used to build the first carbon nanotube transistor in 1998. Carbon nanotubes are also very strong and have been incorporated into composite materials to increase strength and durability.
