How Poems Create Thoughts And Thoughts
Poems create Thoughts and Thoughts create Poems
When we think of poems we often think of a rhythm, rhymes, or of short reads that come together
almost in a lyrical and musical type of way. Today s modern poems are much different because they
incorporate different types of techniques and literary ways of making a piece of writing into a poem.
Through poetry many poets tend to have a deeper connection with themselves and their readers
because they express their thoughts, feelings and memories through their close selection of words.
Many people believe a poem should be composed of a specific and limiting number of lines and
techniques. Poems such as those like The Homecoming, The Feud, and The Pact are incorporating
new ways of making a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These poems in particular may seem to many like they limits themselves in terms of length because
they are written as a poem instead of a prose but behind every word and line in the poems there is so
much meaning hidden behind it. While reading these poems the reader may find themselves analyzing
and looking closer to what they are reading. In The Homecoming by Dana Gioia there is symbolism
incorporated by using lines such as Sensing the power melting from my arms, I realized the energy I
felt was just adrenaline by choosing to use metaphors and similes the author reveals a few aspects of
the poem but leaves the rest for the readers to interpret (Dana Gioia, The Homecoming ). By choosing
to write their stories as poems instead of in prose the authors are reaching out to a specific yet sparse
and limited audience of readers that can still analyze and interpret their poems.
Another reason the authors of the poems The Homecoming, The Feud, and The Pact chose to write
their stories as poems instead of prose is to emphasize the emotion behind their words. As stated in the
article Poems are a form of writing that s often rich with emotion, and they re meant to provoke an
emotional response from the reader and this further reinforces why all three authors chose poetry
because it emphasizes and correctly portray the extremity of their poems content ( National Writing
Project ). As poems these various

Effects Of Obesity On The Food Industry
1. Introduction
1.1. Motivation Air Filled Emulsions
Obesity is one of the biggest evils of society nowadays and it is a result of sedentary lifestyle
combined with unbalanced eating habits (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). The dissemination of chronic
diseases caused by it, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some types of cancer, requires an
urgent need to reduce dietary fat (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009). Also, the reluctance of the public to
change their eating habits impedes the problem resolution. An essential approach to this problem that
the food industry have been looking can be the elaboration and production of low fat products that
resemble the full fat versions according to sensory behaviour, taste and perceived indulgence (Norton,
Moore, Fryer, 2007). Air bubbles designated to act like oil droplets in terms of size and physical
properties is an alternative to the low fat food production (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009).
Some findings strengthen that approach, like the contribution of microbubbles for the improvement of
a range of desirable properties, including texture, digestibility and flavour intensity (Campbell, Webb,
Pondiella, Niranjan,, 1999; Kilcast Clegg, 2002; Lau Dickinson, 2005; Wildmoser, Scheiwiller,
Windhab, 2004), that are essential during processing of some aliments like ice cream and whipped
cream. Microbubbles can facilitate mastication and promote enzyme accessibility and enhance flavour
delivery (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). Nevertheless,

The Bean Trees Research Paper
Recovering From the Past and Finding the Self Worth
In the novel The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver and the autobiography I Know Why the Caged
Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, both the authors write in the perspective of girls who overcome
obstacles in their lives and gradually grow into strong women. Both girls eventually find their self
worth and the places to which they belong. Taylor, the main character of The Bean Trees, is a studious
white girl who dreams of traveling to escape her hometown and to avoid being pregnant. The main
character of the other book, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Marguerite (Maya), is a black girl
with strong sense of insecurity. Although these two girls have very different experiences and live in
different time periods, they tread through similar path of struggle with perseverance and ... Show more

Taylor was born in Pitman County, and she dislikes her birth place because of the attitude and lifestyle
of those who live there. Pitman County was small, poor and isolated.Nobody ever really left Pitman to

She steps outside of the gender norms, and challenges the terrible Pitman tradition of teenage
pregnancies. She decides to pursue a better life, driving out of the state in search for a more preferable
place to reside at. However, she struggles to find a place to stay or a sound job to support herself.
Furthermore, she is burdened by a baby that is suddenly thrust upon her by a stranger. She once said If
I had wanted a baby I would have stayed in Kentucky... I could have babies growing out of my ear by

to take in the child, despite the fact that this decision would adds further burden onto her existing

San Joaquin County Pesticides
Pesticides: Application Good OR Bad?
San Joaquin County is known for its heavy usage of pesticides and is one of the 15 counties in
California that has been labeled for using heavy amounts of these chemicals. Pesticides are a chemical
based spray that is used upon crops of fields to prevent damage to the crops being grown by farmers.
Pesticides have been able to form a multibillion dollar industry alongside the farming industry. While
some pesticides have been deemed as unsafe for the county, state population; they are used in spraying
over our crops and can lead to a health and safety risk for the population. Anything that is consumed
by an organism inherits some of the properties of what it has consumed. Pesticides are beneficial
chemicals to farmers as they provide profits for them and less work, effort, and time to deal with the
problem affecting their crops. This process can be harmful to humans as they are consuming products
which were sprayed by these harmful chemicals and therefore ingesting part of those chemicals.

Sexism In Rap Music
Sexism in rap music When sexism first came to thought there was this idea that women were worth
less than men. Women had little to no rights to call their own, they were often viewed as the wife and
mother who takes care of their children and husband who she feeds , does laundry , and cleans right
after. On the other hand there are men who work and provide money to pay for bills and is the head of
the family. It wasn t until the 19th century when women decided to start campaigns for women to have
more jobs available to them and an increase of salary because females seemed lesser than men, and
also had an influence on women to start movements to put an end to prostitution and sexual violence.
Although sexism developed since then, there is much to be done because theres discrimination
roaming everywhere such as music. It is common today to believe that music can be harmful, although
many believe it does no harm at all and actually influences people for good. Sexism has been highly
presented in today s rap music and videos , offending both genders in aggressive and provocative
ways, It has been used to discriminate others based on their sex . Sexism in youth culture is common;
however, it reaches points that we are yet not prepared to handle without ending up with
consequences. Women face many challenges daily, and sometimes its too difficult to handle and we
just need break and listen to music. There is one problem though, sexism is also in music.

The United Nations ( Un )
Stephen D. Krasner, defined International Regimes as Implicit or explicit principles, norms, rules and
decision making procedures around which actors expectations converge in a given area of
international relations. International regimes have the ability to change the nature of state interactions
as well as providing solutions to intra state wars. An international regimes ability to do this varies
based on several different factors. These factors are influenced by the regimes foreign policy and their
standing in the international community, as well as binding international treaties, such as NATO and
the EU. A regimes military strength can also play a role in their ability to influence their ability to
change the nature of states interactions, as well as provide a solution to intra state wars. The United
Nations (UN) also plays a crucial role in the communication between states. The most powerful
nations within the UN arguably have the greater capacity to command a strong global presence and
have greater ability to interact and affect outcomes in intra state wars.
The main international body with the ability to change the nature of states interactions and provide
solutions to intra state wars is the UN, more specifically the UN Security Council. Countries that have
disagreements usually discuss the issues within the UN, and the matter is discussed by all member
states with the aim of finding a resolution that both states can agree on. However the UN is not always

My Experience With Multiple Sclerosis
In my everyday world I don t think twice about how I am going to get through the day. Waking up,
getting dressed, and getting to school or work are very routine for me. I have been living life without
thinking about how those with disabilities get through their day. What struggles they might see that I

how these individual s daily activities are with a neurological disorder helped me see just how lucky I
am. I have always been interested in the neurological aspect of therapy, and so I decided to experience
what it would be like to be someone with multiple sclerosis, or MS. I have never been around anyone
who has multiple sclerosis, so this was all new to me. Before I could even begin to recreate multiple
sclerosis I had to do some research on what it was. I found that multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune
disease that disturbs the nervous system.1 Those who have this disease have destroyed myelin sheaths,
causing the brain to improperly send signals throughout the body. Multiple sclerosis symptoms can
come and go due to triggers such as infections, known as relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis. While

Narcissistic Behavior In The World Of The Kardashians
People around the world of all ages present narcissistic behavior. However, they don t come out of the
womb preparing for a self centered life. They re influenced by a plethora of good intentions . This
sense of entitlement roots from parenting, a desire for celebrity status, and even social networking.
Like other things that have led to narcissism, parents meant well when they bought that princess shirt
for their daughter. I agree with the authors in that, It says a lot about our culture that people think a six
month old wearing a supermodel bib is cute (Twenge and Campbell 73). Despite how true this is, there
s more to blame considering our daily lives are being bombarded with news of what s going on in the

Bill Gates is a well known leader in the business world. His company s inventions impacted the
business world and changed the market. Bill Gates had a vision of what other executives only dream

many questions have risen about Bill s strategies on whether or not his harsh marketing depicts a
monopolistic nature or is simply a result of becoming the leader of the technology industry.
Bill s inventions that changed the business world

unnecessary cash. All of these inventions changed our work habits, allowed our pc s to share
information with each other, and revolutionized the pc industry. E mail allowed us to communicate
across the country and the world. Businesses who had no way to communicate globally with its
customers and suppliers, other than the telephone, now had more choices. Meetings could be done
with videoconferencing over great distances. These inventions also allowed improved product support.
Developers could diagnose problems onscreen, without invading the consumer s privacy. The pc card

Using Demand and Supply Analysis Identify Those Factors...
Introduction
Over the past five years or so, house prices in the UK have been constantly changing. At times, house
prices being on a rapid increase and at other times falling. This leads to a possibility of negative house
equity. As per Sloman and Garratt: negative house equity is whereby the outstanding value of a
mortgage is greater than the value of property against which it is secured. (Text Book) Supply and
demand are the main determinants of house prices, as the equilibrium of house prices will fall if
demand rises and supply falls. An important characteristic of UK house prices identified from the UK
house price inflation chart is the tendency of prices to rise over the long term, more quickly than
incomes and consumer prices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas, in 2008 to 2010 unemployment rates increased by around 3% in those three years (as shown
in the UK unemployment rates graph) due to the recession. This meant that the demand for buying
houses fell drastically and supply became elastic as people stopped buying as house prices became
financially difficult to afford. This is because people s incomes were falling or growing much slower
giving them less confidence on whether they could afford such large mortgages. Statistics show that
areas where unemployment is above the national average, incomes are more likely to be lower. This
has a negative effect on consumers confidence to buy houses, implying an overall negative impact on
house prices altogether.
Mortgages
Another demand factor affecting house prices is the cost and availability of mortgages. Interest rates
affect homeowners ability to keep up with the mortgage repayments especially as the majority of the
UK has variable mortgages. For this reason, from 2004 to 2008 when interest rates were rising, less
people took out mortgages because for many, they were unaffordable and for others it was difficult to
make repayments. Although, as per Sloman and Garratt, when interest rates fall, the cost of servicing
debts falls helping to fuel the demand for housing. (Text Book) This supports the idea that when
interest rates fall the demand for housing rises. As there are many different types of mortgages
available (such as interest only and mortgages

Public Victory
Why is it important to master private victory before public victory? The victories you make for
yourself are a requirement before you are able to make any progress toward being better with others.
As the book said, you need to get your act together before you can be a team player. One example
being productivity, it gets you in the habit of getting the work you need to be done before going on to
the less pressing matters. Getting rid of common bad habits is a big step. Reacting and blaming issues
on your parents, friends, or even the government won t help you around others. Taking responsibility
and assessing yourself before others is a necessity if you are going to be, for example, working on a
team to develop the new popular app. Overall,

Black Plague Dbq
The Renaissance was an important event in human history that caused us to realise how important
being individual is. When the black plague occurred, it made people think that there may not be a god
because of how tragic it was. Many important people such as Leonardo Da Vinci began making art
and literature that were less religious and more in this world. Also the city states had changes that
were necessary for the Renaissance. Without the changes Europe experienced we would still be under
the rule of the church and be forced into a certain religion instead of being free thinking individuals.
Black Death: The Black Plague was a dreadful event that caused suffering in Europe, however it was
also a wake up call for humanity. Many people believed that the pandemic was because the gods were
angry at humanity for... some reason? After the bodies piled up on the street and pits were made to put
them in instead of graves people wondered if the gods really cared about them. Another thing the
black plague caused is a new class which was the middle class. Serfs and peasants were dying and the

Examples Of Power Struggle In Frankenstein
Throughout Frankenstein, the growing strife between Victor and the monster is representative of a
class war. This strife is due to the monster and Victor s conflicting interests and results in a power
struggle between the two. This power struggle is similar to one we see in real life, between the
bourgeoisie and the working class, as they have a similar power dynamic (Wilson 116). Since the
bourgeoisie are credited with the creation of the working class and have control over many aspects of
their life, they have immense power over the workers, yet the workers have the strength in numbers to
rise up and resist the bourgeoisie. This power struggle reached a peak during the time of the Victorian
Era, including increasing strife between both the bourgeoisie and the ... Show more content on

This resentment can clearly be seen in Frankenstein, it starts with the monster resenting Victor for
creating him and creating him in a way that makes humans despise him (Shelley 85). This resentment
against Victor continues to grow, especially after Victor refuses to build a companion for the monster.
This is the brink for the monster and is when he truly begins to wage a class war upon Victor. Victor is
also resentful of the monster. Thoughts of the monster have plague Victor throughout the entire novel,
even when he was under the impression that the monster had been destroyed, during the winter after
the monster s creation (39). Victor s resentment continues to grow as the monster begins to make his
presence know in murdering Victor s family and friends. Like the workers, the monster is willing to do
anything to improve his conditions, even if it involves waging a class war upon those high up on the
social hierarchy. Considering that the monster and Victor become alienated throughout the novel, it is
clear to see that they represent a class

Martin Luther Private Confession
The placement of corporate confession in the Sunday liturgical service would diminish the
significance of observance Private confession. This would cause an unending debate on practicing
private confession and whether private confession should also be considered a sacrament within the
Lutheran church. Private confession was a rite introduced by the Celtic missionaries and mandated by
the Council of Trent to be observed once a year especially before receiving communion. However, the
abuse of penance through the selling of indulgences caused Martin Luther to seek reform on the
corrupted practices of the papacy of the Catholic church, therefore leading many believers of the new
church skeptical of continuing the practice of private confession. However, Luther argued that
observance of private confession was an imperative of every Christian to taken part in, evidenced in

power wants to, and teleportation is the ability to teleport from place to place. In Allan Johnson s
article Modernity and Anxiety in Bram Stoker s Dracula he says, While Dracula can transform into

technologies and conveniences of everyday life in England (Johnson 5). Johnson is saying how even

Starbucks, A Large Portion Of Starbucks
For Starbucks, business is good. Starbucks continues to come up with more and more innovations and
ways to market their products. Last year Starbucks started bottling their iced coffee and selling them
as a new product lines in their stores, as well as many new sandwich choices. The ability to provide
fresh new ideas year after year provides Starbucks with a growing customer base and a growing net
gain. Starbucks will continue to come up with new ideas and products that will continue to bring in
more customers to established stores and the means to build stores in new markets expanding their
ability to generate revenue, their ability to innovate and market to different cultures globally.
Starbucks ability to cut cost anywhere it can enables them to keep the money they use to operate at a
minimum, leaving more of their revenue as profit. This allows Starbucks to expand and grow rapidly
and increase their profitability greatly.
The Chinese market makes up a large portion of Starbucks profit. China s population plays a big role
in the importance of that market to Starbucks and the ability to pull a big profit from that region. In an
interview with Charlie Rose, Howard Schultz said, We educated [China] on coffee...now [China is]
drinking as much coffee as [America] is. (Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, bloomberg.com) This
statement shows how quickly the Chinese market expanded to the size of the American market and is
continuing to expand. This growth will not stop

Similarities Between Barefoot Gen And Animal Farm
Barefoot Gen written by Keiji Nakazawa and Animal Farm written by George Orwell are two stories
that are relatively different from each other but contain a similar theme of bystanderism. Bystanding is
not seen as courageous and shows signs of weakness, especially If someone were to perform terrible
acts on a community member, and everyone just stood and watched, or walked by without saying
anything. It gives that person complete power over everyone else and things often get worse. If no one
ever tells them off, nothing will change. A bystander is defined as a person that is present at the event
but doesn t get involved and we can see this is Barefoot Gen from the neighborhood children and
parents, the soldiers on the streets, and the kid s classmates. In Animal Farm, bystanders are seen by
the surrounding animals, where they see inhumane acts but turn their heads, sometimes pretending
they had no idea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It tells us a story about the experience of a boy, living in conditions of Japan during the 1940s. His
family is labeled as traitors after Gens dad proudly voices his opinion about the war and his kids

are bullied, abused by other children, the father is beaten by police officers, Eiko, the daughter, was
strip searched, and people bad mouth them on the streets, yet they do nothing because they do not
want to be seen as traitors too. A specific story is when Hanada (a boy who ran from training) was
caught and returned. The squad leader continuously beat him with a bat and called him horrendous
words. Koji tried to step in but was also thrown down to the ground. There were people around, but no
one did anything, they just stood around and watched it all unfold. Sometimes being a bystander is

Bitcoin And Digital Forms Of Currency
The idea of Bitcoin and other virtual forms of currency have sparked a great deal of interest lately
amongst the public. In addition, virtual forms of currency have become a media sensation. It s a new
elusive concept that is gaining popularity amongst financial consumers. Over $5 billion in Bitcoin and
other decentralized currency are currently in circulation. However, how many people actually
understand what the concept of Bitcoin is, or other decentralized currency? Even many who own
Bitcoin/other decentralized forms of currency and utilize it in their daily transaction often time do not
know how the system work. Recently there were new stories of government interference with Bitcoin
businesses. Most consumer have no understanding of why. This general writing requirement attempts
to explain the background of Bitcoin and decentralized currency; it further defines why Bitcoin is in
popular use; and finally the paper calls for United States government to take an active role in the
international regulation of this growing financial scheme. Furthermore, I will address if there is any
existing law that can be drawn to parallel the legal regulations that will need to be utilized in the
regulation of Bitcoin. What type of laws can be created and how will be they be used? I will then look
at what law currently are in existence that have an effect on Bitcoin. Bitcoin became recognized as a

Payers In The Health Care Industry
The role of payers in the health care industry has dramatically increased in the past few years and will
continue to do so with the expanding cost of care. Hospitals are often under scrutiny because of the
discrepancies found between the actual cost of care and what the insurance will reimburse the
organization. Bruce Reuben, the president of the Florida Hospital Association, explains the
multifaceted triangle considered by hospitals: There s one party the hospital who provides the service.
There s a second party the patient, who receives the service. And there s a third party the insurance,
who pays for the service (Mack, 2014). The greatest complex part of this triangle is the last which
examines the insurance s payment for service ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Medicare patients make up 42 percent of a hospital s volume and have reimbursement rates that are set
by the U.S. Congress (American hospital association, 2015). Hospitals have little say in Medicare
reimbursement because of the increasing number of regulations and stipulations being set in efforts of
the government to control health care costs. Medicaid patient payment rates are set by state
governments and end up making up around 16 percent of a hospital s volume (American hospital
association, 2015). Between Medicare and Medicaid hospitals bare losses of approximately $51
billion dollars each year because these programs have very low payback rates (American hospital
association, 2015). Luckily, hospitals can count on privately insured patients to help to make up this
difference with higher negotiated reimbursements that each holds with individual hospitals. Private
insurance companies hold contracts with hospitals on an individual basis, which depicts the amount
reimbursed to the hospitals. These contracts vary significantly and can be different, even within one
specific insurance provider and hospital based upon the plan a patient might have. The price

African Countries, Sierra Leon And Ghana
I have chosen to dissect two West African countries, Sierra Leon and Ghana, along with Peru located
in South America and lastly the United States located in North America. Sierra Leon is a British
established colony founded in 1787 for slaves returning to Africa from Great Britain and also the
United States, its primary language is Krio spoken by 97% of citizens. Sierra Leone became an
independent country within the Commonwealth of Nations on April 27 of 1961 and Freetown was
deemed the capital city. Sierra Leone holds a population of 6,453,184 and population density of 89.4
per square kilometer. In spite that this country is very poor it still suffers the consequences of the Civil
war. Yet its mineral, farming and angling assets still ensures potential for monetary future
developments. Earnest Bai Koroma is the current President of Sierra Leon. Earnest Bai Koroma is a
graduate from the oldest University in West Africa, Fourth Bay College class of 1976, born October 2
1953. Sierra Leon Presidential term limit consists of a maximum of 2 five year term limits. Earnest
BK is now serving his 2nd term as of 2007. During Earnest Bai Presidency Sierra Leonean faced
detrimental governmental issues, commanded by the Ebola epidemic in West Africa in 2014. As the

The Nigerian Stock Market and Its Impact on the Economy
CHAPTER ONE
OVERVIEW
Nigeria, like many other African countries, was created from a multi ethnic, socially and culturally
diverse people, situated between the Equator and the tropic of cancer, its climate and vegetation can
afford the growth of many tropical commodities such as cocoa, groundnuts, palm produce and rubber.
Starting from a low technological base after political independence in 1960, the country embarked on
the arduous task of building a state with one identity by integrating the different ethnicities and
transforming the barter economy into financial exchange economy. The country provided
infrastructure and social amenities for a very young population. Over the years, policies were pursued

Fakiyesi, O.M. in his paper also said that the poor in Nigeria have limited access to savings and credit
facilities, good roads, pipe borne water, innovative technology and low output markets. They are
predominantly in subsistence agriculture and in petty trading, utilising traditional input. This is why
the role of the capital market as agent of growth and development is very important, thus this role has
been subject of concern and has drawn comments from different fora. It is under this background this
study was proposed, to further clarify the symbiotic relationship between the capital market and
economic development.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Economic advancement and allocation of the aggregate investment in an economy for production of
goods and services are too prominent factors in our national development. The importance of capital
market can be ascertained from the increasing emphasis and recognition accorded to investment as
veritable instruments of development by policy makers in Nigeria and the world over.
Capital mobilisation and allocation are very essential if the regular features of poor infrastructural
facilities (i.e. bad roads/poor road networks, lack of electricity, water, indecent accommodation,

Analysis Of Altruism In The Fountainhead
Adapting Egoism over Altruism: Equality s Escape from Collectivism
No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered
and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives (Rand, The Fountainhead). As described in the
novel The Fountainhead, history has shown to repeat itself by punishing the inventors of new objects
that go against societal normalities. This is evident with Equality 7 2521, the protagonist in Ayn Rand
s book Anthem. Set in a future free of technology, Anthem depicts a man s struggle to free himself
from collectivism. In the novel, society has put strict rules in place to ensure members are controlled
and free from independent thought. Equality acknowledges these rules throughout the book yet still
breaks them to pursue his passion for learning and inventing. Equality s decision to put his own
interests before society s ultimately leads to his liberation. During the book, Equality internally
struggles between doing what is morally right for society and following what he wants. In the city,
rules and expectations are put in place to eliminate individuality. One of these, mentioned in another
piece by Rand, The Fountainhead, is the idea of Altruism, the doctrine which demands that man live
for others and place others above oneself (Rand, The Fountainhead). This eventually leads to men
[having] been taught dependence as a virtue (Rand, The Fountainhead). She further elaborates how
society has implemented Altruism as an excuse to eliminate individuality rather than using it as a tool
to genuinely help others. Since this concept is preached to everyone their whole life, they grow up
only knowing altruism and don t know what individuality is or how they can express it. However,
Equality begins to question the idea of helping others before himself and debates between doing his
undesirable street sweeping job for the city or pursuing his quest for knowledge. Although he would
much rather learn new material, he still feels obligated to carry out his role in the society. This proves
how what he has been taught holds him back from achieving his goal, as Equality is initially confused
on what to do and hesitates. Even though the

Enframing
In this quote Heidegger is expressing what the essence of modern technology is. The essence of
modern of technology is Enframing. Enframing is way of revealing, it is an imposition in which
humans view the world as ready to use, standing reserve, and disposable. The reason why Enframing
is challenging is due to the notion that we view nature as a force that can not only be subdued, but be
used to for our benefit. Nature no longer just exists but rather can now be viewed as a potential power
source than can be harnessed, but stored for later use. This notion of standing reserve has only become
more prevalent with the rise of renewable energy, especially when one considers solar energy. The
main benefits of solar power is not only something than can be extracted for usage while the sun is
out, but the fact that it can be stored and exploited when the sun is not readily available. ... Show more

Heidegger initially states that technology has a instrumental and anthropological definition. The
instrumental definition asserts that technology is a means to an end, while the anthropological
definition states that technology is a human activity. Heidegger makes a move separating the correct
from the true. While they may both be correct definitions of technology, he claims that the
anthropological and instrumental definitions of technology are not its true definitions. Which leads us
to question what is the true definition of technology and is there a distinction between technology and

Analysis Of The Movie The Englishman s Boy
The film The Englishman s boy is a screen adaptation of Guy Vanderhaeghe s book of the same name.
Vanderhaeghe also wrote the screenplay for the film. The book was based on the true story of the
Cypress Hills massacre in 1873. I will provide a summary of the film s most important plot points,
characters and background information. The movie covers the horrors that were witnessed in Cypress
Hills and shows the inhumane way Native Americans have been treated since colonization, in 1873
and through to the 1920s. The movie explains how white men were hearkened as heroes for
committing these atrocities which were largely excused because society at that time viewed natives as
inhuman and therefore undeserving of human rights. The film was set with a background in both 1873
pioneer plains and 1920s Hollywood. This method was used to show a dualism within the two eras
and that negative attitudes towards Native Americans had not been corrected as they should have been
but only muffled. I will compare the film and its accuracy to the actual Cypress Hills massacre and
determine what dramatics were used to make a point within the direction of the movie. This film and
the subsequent essay is relevant to this class because I believe that even though the crimes committed
against native Americans are less obviously racist, violent and vulgar today, there is still a derogatory
indifference towards them and their cries for equality.
The film opens in 1873, with a young man working as a

Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda Essay
Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda
Rome was experiencing a great deal of internal turmoil during the period when Virgil wrote the
Aeneid. There was somewhat of an identity crisis in Rome as it had no definitive leader, or history.
With the ascension of Augustus to the throne, Rome was unified again. Still, it had no great book. The
Greeks had their Odyssey, giving them a sense of history and of continuity through time. A commonly
held view is that the Aeneid attempts to provide the Romans with this sense of continuity or roots.
There is a great deal of textual evidence to support this interpretation. Virgil makes numerous
references to the greatness of Rome through ancient prophecies. Clearly, the entire poem is an account

These two methods allow Virgil to connect his Rome very closely to the story of Aeneas, and give the
Aeneid a great deal of historical credibility in the eyes of his contemporaries.
It was very critical to Virgil that a believable sense of history be achieved in his writing. At the
beginning of Book VI, the story of Daedalus and his son Icarus is introduced when the Trojans see it
carved into the temple doors (lines 21 50). There is a second time in the text that such a reference to
the past is made in a similar fashion. This occurs in Book I when Aeneas observes the carvings on the
walls of Juno s temple at Carthage (lines 619 762). In these two incidents, the same technique of
recalling history is employed. Virgil seems to imply that the best way that he can describe history is to
tell it with the help of the gods, which in this case that would be the Muse that he has called upon in
Book I to assist him (line 13). At the time, the knowledge of the Muses was considered to be the
objective truth while the knowledge of the mortals was considered to be secondhand and imperfect.
The distinction between the two is made with the story of Daedalus. Virgil gives an elaborate account
of what he knows of the event, and then omits the ending which he does not know: Twice your father
tried to shape your fall in gold, but twice his hands dropped. (Book VI, lines 49 50) By wording the
story so that Daedalus does not describe his own son s

The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of
best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must
tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ).
While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to
succeed very well in providing both moral teaching and entertainment. However, while his tale
effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims
for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to
afford his tale the impact he intends.
The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas
(greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death.
(Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old man tells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under
which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath
the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas
requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it
interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both enigmatically
old and inexplicably

Brain Candy Essay
Have you ever heard that too much television can ruin a child s mind? Malcolm Gladwell proposes in
his article, Brain Candy, that playing video games or watching television is just as important as
reading a book. Gladwell is using rhetorical appeals to prove that in fact, video games are not
dumbing down society. Pop culture is helping to improve test scores and knowledge. In Brain Candy,
Malcolm Gladwell does affectively use rhetorical appeals to convince his audience that pop culture is
making our society smarter. First, Gladwell effectively appeals to logos. Gladwell appeals to logic
through statistics. In the opening paragraph, Gladwell cites statistics by James Flynn: But if you took

Conclusively, Gladwell uses pathos. Gladwell appeals to emotions through vivid images. Gladwell
states that Unlike the longstanding tradition of gameplaying which engages the child in a vivid, three
dimensional world filled with moving images and musical soundscapes, navigated and controlled with
complex muscular movements books are simply a barren string of words on the page. Gladwell is
giving an extremely vivid image of someone playing a game, rather than simply reading words written
on a page. This proves emotion by being able to see an idea of gameplaying and not just seeing words
written on a blank page. Gladwell also appeals to emotions through properties of a book. Gladwell
states that But perhaps the most dangerous property of these books is the fact that they follow a fixed
linear path ( Brain Candy ). This is an example of emotions because books are isolating and not open
minded because they follow a set of distinct rules. In conclusion, pop culture is not dumbing down
society; it is, in fact, making society smarter. Malcolm Gladwell uses three different rhetorical appeals
to prove this point. Gladwell proposes that playing a game can help a child s mind more so than it
would reading a book. Pop culture is given in many different forms, and can help a child use different
parts of the brain.

Chapter One details the ancestry of frogs and examines the timeline of amphibians on Earth, as well as
the increase in frog extinction rate. Kolbert argues that the observed extinction rates which are

Analysis Of Luria And Rubin ( 1974 )
Introduction
Subject investigated: Gender stereotypes
Details and aim of replicated study: Luria and Rubin (1974)
Background literature: Previous studies about gender stereotypes enforced on people include; Effect of
infant s perceived gender on adolescents ratings of the infant by Degelman, Dvorak, and Homutoff
and Cowan (1983). These studies highlight feminine and masculine traits. They ask middle school
students to rate a baby on each of those traits.
Rationale: Our group decided to examine the differences in how boys and girls are described. We used
a baby, whose gender is not mentioned, as the control. We knew that specific sets of expectations
based on gender are enforced at a young age. We thought adjectives used to describe a baby could
highlight stereotypical gender roles.
Aim / Hypothesis: We believe it is more likely for the baby to be described based on appearance when
told it is a girl and when told it is a boy to be described based on their potential and whether they
looked smart . Our aim is to highlight the differences between males and females using stereotypical
gender roles.
Method
Design: 15 students were each asked the same question, could you tell us 5 words or phrases that
describe this baby? . 5 were told it was a girl, 5 were told it was a boy, and 5 weren t told a gender.

The Rational Decision Making Model Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this report is to provide feedback on administrative and public policy violation issues
in the city of Crestview located in Okaloosa County, Florida. The report analyzes public policy
violations, City Council member adjudication, transparency, and leadership issues in the City of
Crestview. The report uses various research methods to gather data to help formulate the conclusion
and recommendations of the report.
The rational decision making model is utilized to make the best decision possible. The rational
decision making model is the best known prescriptive model; the model involves several sequential
steps: identifying the problem, determining the goals and objectives, identifying and evaluating
alternative policies, choosing from the alternatives, recommending actions, implementation, and
evaluation (Smith, 2014). The use of this model is justified as it provides structure and sequence to the
choices of the decision maker. The model helps ensure key indicators can be fully considered in a
logical manner.
It is recommended that the administration create new procedures and implement trainings or classes to
educate City Council members, employees and other city officials on new public policies as well as
the Sunshine Law. These trainings will outline laws, policies and ordinances as well as target times for
legislators to move any issue from the systemic agenda to the formal agenda; this policy should allow

Case Study On Level Of Processing
Psychology Internal Assessment
Aim: The aim of this study is to prove the level of processing theory created by Craik and Lockhart
(1972) by replicating the experiment of Craik and Tulving (1975)
Introduction:
Before the level of processing theory, psychologists Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) introduced the multi
store model demonstrated memory involving three different stores, sensory store, the short term store
(STS) and the long term store (LTS). They indicated that purposes of these static stores are to hold
information flows through step by step through control process. Meaning, information must be
identified through a sensory organ and stored in sensory memory in order to transfer to the STM
trough the control process of attention.
Craik and Lockhart (1972) were very critical of models like MSM. They completely ignored the idea
that humans have different memory stores. Because of this, they created a new theory on level of
processing as an alternative to the multi store model. They disagreed with the theory ... Show more

They proposed that memory is just a by product of the depth of processing of information, and there is
no clear distinction between short term memory and long term memory. Therefore the memory is
enhanced more by depth of processing than by how long information is rehearsed. To understand their

The Strategic Board Game Strategy
The strategic board game, Diplomacy, focuses on wars, but more importantly the act of negotiating.
The players are responsible for forming strategies by both developing and breaking alliances with
their competitors. The game is set in Europe during World War I with most teams beginning with
similar resources. Each player team competes as an either Austria Hungary, Turkey, Italy, England,
France, Russia, or Germany. With at least three home center game pieces on the board, there are
strategic movements in order to control one of the eighteen supply centers. This involves phases of
negotiation prior to movement of the game piece. There is no factor of luck. The main variable in the
game is each team s ability to convince the others to do what they want. The core game strategy is
negotiation. This board game at times mirrors actual history and educates the players as to the method
by which a world war can happen. Both in the game and in actual life, everyone is envious of England
because of its location and resources as well as having a developed army. Russia Germany and France
are potential threats. Many of the alliances that occurred during World War I did not actually happen
in our game of Diplomacy. There were several shocking twists and turns. In our game, Italy and
Russia stayed rather benign and non engaging. They moved some pieces out of their countries;
however, they primarily just protected their home countries. Germany, just as in a real life map, is

Data Analysis Of DNA By The Standard Crystallographic Method
The structure of 2 was determined by the standard crystallographic method, using a colorless plate
crystal (0.028 × 0.034 × 0.046 mm3) of 2 for single crystal data analysis. All the data were collected
using a Bruker SMART BREEZE diffractometer equipped with a 1K CCD area detector using
graphite monochromated Mo Kα radiation at 200 K. A hemisphere of data was collected using a
narrow frame method with the scan widths of 0.30° in omega and an exposure time of 5 s/frame. The
first 50 frames were remeasured at the end of the data collection to monitor the instrument and crystal
stability. The maximum correction applied to the intensities was 2σ(I). All the calculations were
performed using the WinGX 98 crystallographic software package ... Show more content on

2.6 Second order nonlinear optical measurements
Powder second harmonic generating (SHG) measurements of polycrystalline material 2 were
performed using a modified Kurtz NLO system using 1064 nm radiation [33]. A DAWA Q switched
Nd:YAG laser, operating at 20 Hz, was used for the measurements. Because the SHG efficiency has
been shown to depend strongly on the particle size, polycrystalline samples were ground and sieved
(Newark Wire Cloth Co.) into distinct particle size ranges (20 45, 45 63, 63 75, 75 90, 90 125, 125
150, 150 200, 200 250, 250 μm). To make relevant comparisons with the known SHG materials,
crystalline α SiO2 and LiNbO3 were also ground and sieved into the same particle size ranges.
Powders with the particle size in the range 45 63 µm were used for comparing the SHG intensities. All
the powder samples with different particle sizes were placed in separate capillary tubes. No index
matching fluid was used in any of the experiments. The SHG light, i.e., 532 nm green light, was
collected in reflection and detected using a photomultiplier tube (Hamamatsu). To detect only the
SHG light, a 532 nm narrow pass interference filter was attached to the tube. A digital oscilloscope
(Tektronix TDS1032) was used to view the SHG signal. A detailed description of the equipment and
the methodology used has been published [34].

The Effects that Affirmative Action Has Had on Past and...
The African American experience in the United States is one that could almost be described as
irreparable. The African American debut in this country was one that started off as foul as a situation
could be. The slavery experience ranks amongst some of the most inhumane eras in the history of
mankind. The settlers in the colonies viewed Africans as only 3/5ths of a man and used Africans as
tools, or pets, as opposed to acknowledging them as real thinking, loving, feeling human beings.
Amazingly so, African Americans were able to advance in this society to a plateau in which we are
now, by definition, accepted as equals. Racism still exists in many social institutions and mindsets of
our citizens, but opportunity now is vast, compared to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
African Americans were struggling hard enough to get basic equal rights as is, but this was still
created to officially provide equality. On March 6, 1961, President John F. Kennedy issues Executive
Order 10925, which creates the Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity and mandates that
projects financed with federal funds take affirmative action to ensure that hiring and employment
practices are free of racial bias. Later, President Lyndon Johnson went on to sign the Civil Rights Act,
which prohibits discrimination of all kinds backed on race, color, religion, or national origin. This was
one of the most groundbreaking power moves in the civil rights struggle to date. On June 4, 1965, in
an eloquent speech to the graduating class at Howard University, President Johnson frames the
concept underlying affirmative action, asserting that civil rights laws alone are not enough to remedy
discrimination:
quot; You do not wipe away the scars of centuries by saying: now, you are free to go where you want,
do as you desire, and choose the leaders you please. You do not take a man who for years has been
hobbled by chains, liberate him, bring him to the starting line of a race, saying, you are free to
compete with all the others, and still justly believe you have been completely fair . . . This is the next
and more profound stage of the battle for civil rights. We seek not just freedom but opportunity not
just legal equity but human ability not just equality

Effects Of Production Stoppage On Ford Motor s Single...
Risk #1: Losses caused by production stoppage in Ford Motor s single source suppliers Risk
Description Although single sourcing can create an efficient, low cost supply chain model for many
top manufacturers like Ford, dependence on a single source can also end up being quite costly for a
company. If one of Ford s single suppliers halts production on any key component for any reason,
there will be adverse effects. As Ford reported in their 2014 annual 10 K filing, many of the
components in their vehicles cannot be re sourced quickly or inexpensively to another supplier
because of long lead times and new contractual arrangements that the new supplier must follow (Ford
Motor Co.). Ford has had complications with this particular risk in the past. In 1998, faulty software in
a German supplier of door and trunk latches halted production in several of their factories. After a
three day halt in Ford Fiestas and Pumas, it is estimated that the difficulties cost Ford up to 7,000
vehicles (Professional Engineering). Another example of the severity of the risk occurred several
months prior to the 1998 Ford incident. Week long national strikes in Denmark froze Saab s supplier
production of key engine parts. The halt in production left Saab without engine mounts for its newly
launched vehicles. Ultimately, 4,250 factory workers were sent home at an approximate cost of
$90,000,000 (inflation adjusted) (Professional Engineering). This has been a recurring problem in
large manufacturers

Abstract
This paper offers exploratory insights into the ways in which environmental factors influence the
internationalisation of a new low technology firm, two topics that are largely understudied in the field
of international entrepreneurship. By analysing data and literature, the influence of market conditions,
industry characteristics and global niche market opportunities are examined, using a ... Show more

Research Question
Although a big part of German exports consist of low technology products, almost all research about
factors influencing internationalisation of new ventures, has been done focusing on companies that
operate in the high technology industry. The environment in which these firms operate is very
different from the environment in which low technology firms operate. High technology firms face
high R D costs, short product life cycles and mostly operate in niche markets (Knight Cavusgill,
2004). These conditions are very different for low tech firms (Evers, 2010). Here, R D costs and
product life cycles play no significant role. Since studies about new venture internationalisation are so
heavily grounded in the high tech sector, little is known about the factors that affect the
internationalisation of firms in the low tech sector. This raises the possibility that past findings do not
generalize equally well to all economic sectors (Zahra George, 2002). Furthermore, little research has
been done about how environmental factors influence new venture internationalisation, and more
research is necessary to find out how these factors influence early internationalisation (Fernhaber,
2007). Environmental factors are factors that a firm cannot control, and that are part of the external
environment they operate in (Zou and Stan, 1998). These factors can have a significant push and pull
effect on new ventures to internationalise

Endangered Species Of Primate
Humans have always been a destructive species. Throughout history, and especially recently, humans
have been the cause of many species going extinct or threatened of extinction. Primates are no
exception to the destructive and damaging effects. Humans feel as if they are superior to other species,
even those who are biologically similar to us. Humans feel the need to dominate other species which
is one reason primates are being hunted. Many people who hunt primates claim that they are hunting
for bushmeat. This statement is true, but it is not necessary in many areas where there are many more
sources of protein. Some people in certain areas hunt primates for the sport of it, which is extremely
devastating to many different species of primates. There have been some efforts made in order to
protect certain species of primates. Another cause for endangered species of primates is deforestation.
Some efforts that have been made are nature sanctuaries and creating laws against hunting. What
needs to be done in order to decrease hunting and deforestation is education of subject to the people of
the areas.
One species of primate that is critically endangered due to the effects of humans, is the Hapalemur
alaotrensis, or commonly referred to as the Alaotra Gentle Lemur. This lemur is critically endangered
due to severe anthropogenic effects. Their habitats are destroyed by humans through fires and
deforestation. They are then forced into small areas around them where they cannot

Stanislavski Set Affects The Actor
The second part of this essay looks at how the set affects the actor. Something that is very prevalent in
almost all of the pictures we see of Stanislavski on stage is his almost cluttered looking stage. Being a
fan and believer of Naturalism his goal would be to bring the audience and even the actors into this
world he d created. Having a fully immersive set yields positive and negative effects for the actors.
The positive for this is as I stated earlier a full sense of immersion. Should the set looks and feels
exactly as it should be then then less imagination is required from the actor. They can effortlessly
work with their surroundings and focus all energy into their character. If all of these pieces come
together the actor can receive

How Poems Create Thoughts And Thoughts Poems create Thoughts and Thoughts create Poems When we think of poems we often think of a rhythm, rhymes, or of short reads that come together almost in a lyrical and musical type of way. Today s modern poems are much different because they incorporate different types of techniques and literary ways of making a piece of writing into a poem. Through poetry many poets tend to have a deeper connection with themselves and their readers because they express their thoughts, feelings and memories through their close selection of words. Many people believe a poem should be composed of a specific and limiting number of lines and techniques. Poems such as those like The Homecoming, The Feud, and The Pact are incorporating new ways of making a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These poems in particular may seem to many like they limits themselves in terms of length because they are written as a poem instead of a prose but behind every word and line in the poems there is so much meaning hidden behind it. While reading these poems the reader may find themselves analyzing and looking closer to what they are reading. In The Homecoming by Dana Gioia there is symbolism incorporated by using lines such as Sensing the power melting from my arms, I realized the energy I felt was just adrenaline by choosing to use metaphors and similes the author reveals a few aspects of the poem but leaves the rest for the readers to interpret (Dana Gioia, The Homecoming ). By choosing to write their stories as poems instead of in prose the authors are reaching out to a specific yet sparse and limited audience of readers that can still analyze and interpret their poems. Another reason the authors of the poems The Homecoming, The Feud, and The Pact chose to write their stories as poems instead of prose is to emphasize the emotion behind their words. As stated in the article Poems are a form of writing that s often rich with emotion, and they re meant to provoke an emotional response from the reader and this further reinforces why all three authors chose poetry because it emphasizes and correctly portray the extremity of their poems content ( National Writing Project ). • 3. Effects Of Obesity On The Food Industry 1. Introduction 1.1. Motivation Air Filled Emulsions Obesity is one of the biggest evils of society nowadays and it is a result of sedentary lifestyle combined with unbalanced eating habits (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). The dissemination of chronic diseases caused by it, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some types of cancer, requires an urgent need to reduce dietary fat (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009). Also, the reluctance of the public to change their eating habits impedes the problem resolution. An essential approach to this problem that the food industry have been looking can be the elaboration and production of low fat products that resemble the full fat versions according to sensory behaviour, taste and perceived indulgence (Norton, Moore, Fryer, 2007). Air bubbles designated to act like oil droplets in terms of size and physical properties is an alternative to the low fat food production (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009). Some findings strengthen that approach, like the contribution of microbubbles for the improvement of a range of desirable properties, including texture, digestibility and flavour intensity (Campbell, Webb, Pondiella, Niranjan,, 1999; Kilcast Clegg, 2002; Lau Dickinson, 2005; Wildmoser, Scheiwiller, Windhab, 2004), that are essential during processing of some aliments like ice cream and whipped cream. Microbubbles can facilitate mastication and promote enzyme accessibility and enhance flavour delivery (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). Nevertheless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At times, house prices being on a rapid increase and at other times falling. This leads to a possibility of negative house equity. As per Sloman and Garratt: negative house equity is whereby the outstanding value of a mortgage is greater than the value of property against which it is secured. (Text Book) Supply and demand are the main determinants of house prices, as the equilibrium of house prices will fall if demand rises and supply falls. An important characteristic of UK house prices identified from the UK house price inflation chart is the tendency of prices to rise over the long term, more quickly than incomes and consumer prices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas, in 2008 to 2010 unemployment rates increased by around 3% in those three years (as shown in the UK unemployment rates graph) due to the recession. This meant that the demand for buying houses fell drastically and supply became elastic as people stopped buying as house prices became financially difficult to afford. This is because people s incomes were falling or growing much slower giving them less confidence on whether they could afford such large mortgages. Statistics show that areas where unemployment is above the national average, incomes are more likely to be lower. This has a negative effect on consumers confidence to buy houses, implying an overall negative impact on house prices altogether. Mortgages Another demand factor affecting house prices is the cost and availability of mortgages. Interest rates affect homeowners ability to keep up with the mortgage repayments especially as the majority of the UK has variable mortgages. For this reason, from 2004 to 2008 when interest rates were rising, less people took out mortgages because for many, they were unaffordable and for others it was difficult to make repayments. Although, as per Sloman and Garratt, when interest rates fall, the cost of servicing debts falls helping to fuel the demand for housing. Private insurance companies hold contracts with hospitals on an individual basis, which depicts the amount reimbursed to the hospitals. These contracts vary significantly and can be different, even within one specific insurance provider and hospital based upon the plan a patient might have. • 26. African Countries, Sierra Leon And Ghana I have chosen to dissect two West African countries, Sierra Leon and Ghana, along with Peru located in South America and lastly the United States located in North America. Sierra Leon is a British established colony founded in 1787 for slaves returning to Africa from Great Britain and also the United States, its primary language is Krio spoken by 97% of citizens. Sierra Leone became an independent country within the Commonwealth of Nations on April 27 of 1961 and Freetown was deemed the capital city. Sierra Leone holds a population of 6,453,184 and population density of 89.4 per square kilometer. In spite that this country is very poor it still suffers the consequences of the Civil war. Yet its mineral, farming and angling assets still ensures potential for monetary future developments. Earnest Bai Koroma is the current President of Sierra Leon. Earnest Bai Koroma is a graduate from the oldest University in West Africa, Fourth Bay College class of 1976, born October 2 1953. Sierra Leon Presidential term limit consists of a maximum of 2 five year term limits. Earnest BK is now serving his 2nd term as of 2007. During Earnest Bai Presidency Sierra Leonean faced detrimental governmental issues, commanded by the Ebola epidemic in West Africa in 2014. The Nigerian Stock Market and Its Impact on the Economy CHAPTER ONE OVERVIEW Nigeria, like many other African countries, was created from a multi ethnic, socially and culturally diverse people, situated between the Equator and the tropic of cancer, its climate and vegetation can afford the growth of many tropical commodities such as cocoa, groundnuts, palm produce and rubber. Starting from a low technological base after political independence in 1960, the country embarked on the arduous task of building a state with one identity by integrating the different ethnicities and transforming the barter economy into financial exchange economy. The country provided infrastructure and social amenities for a very young population. Over the years, policies were pursued in order to achieve the goal of a ... Fakiyesi, O.M. in his paper also said that the poor in Nigeria have limited access to savings and credit facilities, good roads, pipe borne water, innovative technology and low output markets. They are predominantly in subsistence agriculture and in petty trading, utilising traditional input. This is why the role of the capital market as agent of growth and development is very important, thus this role has been subject of concern and has drawn comments from different fora. It is under this background this study was proposed, to further clarify the symbiotic relationship between the capital market and economic development. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Economic advancement and allocation of the aggregate investment in an economy for production of goods and services are too prominent factors in our national development. The importance of capital market can be ascertained from the increasing emphasis and recognition accorded to investment as veritable instruments of development by policy makers in Nigeria and the world over. Capital mobilisation and allocation are very essential if the regular features of poor infrastructural facilities (i.e. bad roads/poor road networks, lack of electricity, water, indecent accommodation, inadequate educational institutions, lack of health centres and poor ... • 28. Analysis Of Altruism In The Fountainhead Adapting Egoism over Altruism: Equality s Escape from Collectivism No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives (Rand, The Fountainhead). As described in the novel The Fountainhead, history has shown to repeat itself by punishing the inventors of new objects that go against societal normalities. This is evident with Equality 7 2521, the protagonist in Ayn Rand s book Anthem. Set in a future free of technology, Anthem depicts a man s struggle to free himself from collectivism. In the novel, society has put strict rules in place to ensure members are controlled and free from independent thought. Equality acknowledges these rules throughout the book yet still breaks them to pursue his passion for learning and inventing. Equality s decision to put his own interests before society s ultimately leads to his liberation. During the book, Equality internally struggles between doing what is morally right for society and following what he wants. In the city, rules and expectations are put in place to eliminate individuality. One of these, mentioned in another piece by Rand, The Fountainhead, is the idea of Altruism, the doctrine which demands that man live for others and place others above oneself (Rand, The Fountainhead). This eventually leads to men [having] been taught dependence as a virtue (Rand, The Fountainhead). She further elaborates how society has implemented Altruism as an excuse to eliminate individuality rather than using it as a tool to genuinely help others. Since this concept is preached to everyone their whole life, they grow up only knowing altruism and don t know what individuality is or how they can express it. However, Equality begins to question the idea of helping others before himself and debates between doing his undesirable street sweeping job for the city or pursuing his quest for knowledge. Although he would much rather learn new material, he still feels obligated to carry out his role in the society. This proves how what he has been taught holds him back from achieving his goal, as Equality is initially confused on what to do and hesitates. Even though the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Enframing In this quote Heidegger is expressing what the essence of modern technology is. The essence of modern of technology is Enframing. Enframing is way of revealing, it is an imposition in which humans view the world as ready to use, standing reserve, and disposable. The reason why Enframing is challenging is due to the notion that we view nature as a force that can not only be subdued, but be used to for our benefit. Nature no longer just exists but rather can now be viewed as a potential power source than can be harnessed, but stored for later use. This notion of standing reserve has only become more prevalent with the rise of renewable energy, especially when one considers solar energy. The main benefits of solar power is not only something than can be extracted for usage while the sun is out, but the fact that it can be stored and exploited when the sun is not readily available. ... Vanderhaeghe also wrote the screenplay for the film. The book was based on the true story of the Cypress Hills massacre in 1873. I will provide a summary of the film s most important plot points, characters and background information. The movie covers the horrors that were witnessed in Cypress Hills and shows the inhumane way Native Americans have been treated since colonization, in 1873 and through to the 1920s. The movie explains how white men were hearkened as heroes for committing these atrocities which were largely excused because society at that time viewed natives as inhuman and therefore undeserving of human rights. The film was set with a background in both 1873 pioneer plains and 1920s Hollywood. This method was used to show a dualism within the two eras and that negative attitudes towards Native Americans had not been corrected as they should have been but only muffled. I will compare the film and its accuracy to the actual Cypress Hills massacre and determine what dramatics were used to make a point within the direction of the movie. This film and the subsequent essay is relevant to this class because I believe that even though the crimes committed against native Americans are less obviously racist, violent and vulgar today, there is still a derogatory indifference towards them and their cries for equality. • 31. Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda Essay Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda Rome was experiencing a great deal of internal turmoil during the period when Virgil wrote the Aeneid. There was somewhat of an identity crisis in Rome as it had no definitive leader, or history. With the ascension of Augustus to the throne, Rome was unified again. Still, it had no great book. The Greeks had their Odyssey, giving them a sense of history and of continuity through time. A commonly held view is that the Aeneid attempts to provide the Romans with this sense of continuity or roots. There is a great deal of textual evidence to support this interpretation. Virgil makes numerous references to the greatness of Rome through ancient prophecies. Clearly, the entire poem is an account of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These two methods allow Virgil to connect his Rome very closely to the story of Aeneas, and give the Aeneid a great deal of historical credibility in the eyes of his contemporaries. It was very critical to Virgil that a believable sense of history be achieved in his writing. At the beginning of Book VI, the story of Daedalus and his son Icarus is introduced when the Trojans see it carved into the temple doors (lines 21 50). There is a second time in the text that such a reference to the past is made in a similar fashion. This occurs in Book I when Aeneas observes the carvings on the walls of Juno s temple at Carthage (lines 619 762). In these two incidents, the same technique of recalling history is employed. Virgil seems to imply that the best way that he can describe history is to tell it with the help of the gods, which in this case that would be the Muse that he has called upon in Book I to assist him (line 13). At the time, the knowledge of the Muses was considered to be the objective truth while the knowledge of the mortals was considered to be secondhand and imperfect. The distinction between the two is made with the story of Daedalus. Virgil gives an elaborate account of what he knows of the event, and then omits the ending which he does not know: Twice your father tried to shape your fall in gold, but twice his hands dropped. • 32. The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moral teaching and entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends. The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas (greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death. (Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old man tells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas requirement in its entertainment value. In Brain Candy, Malcolm Gladwell does affectively use rhetorical appeals to convince his audience that pop culture is making our society smarter. First, Gladwell effectively appeals to logos. Gladwell is giving an extremely vivid image of someone playing a game, rather than simply reading words written on a page. This proves emotion by being able to see an idea of gameplaying and not just seeing words written on a blank page. Gladwell also appeals to emotions through properties of a book. Gladwell states that But perhaps the most dangerous property of these books is the fact that they follow a fixed linear path ( Brain Candy ). Rationale: Our group decided to examine the differences in how boys and girls are described. We used a baby, whose gender is not mentioned, as the control. Case Study On Level Of Processing Psychology Internal Assessment Aim: The aim of this study is to prove the level of processing theory created by Craik and Lockhart (1972) by replicating the experiment of Craik and Tulving (1975) Introduction: Before the level of processing theory, psychologists Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) introduced the multi store model demonstrated memory involving three different stores, sensory store, the short term store (STS) and the long term store (LTS). They indicated that purposes of these static stores are to hold information flows through step by step through control process. Meaning, information must be identified through a sensory organ and stored in sensory memory in order to transfer to the STM trough the control process of attention. This was one of the most groundbreaking power moves in the civil rights struggle to date. On June 4, 1965, in an eloquent speech to the graduating class at Howard University, President Johnson frames the concept underlying affirmative action, asserting that civil rights laws alone are not enough to remedy discrimination: quot; You do not wipe away the scars of centuries by saying: now, you are free to go where you want, do as you desire, and choose the leaders you please. You do not take a man who for years has been hobbled by chains, liberate him, bring him to the starting line of a race, saying, you are free to compete with all the others, and still justly believe you have been completely fair . . . This is the next and more profound stage of the battle for civil rights. We seek not just freedom but opportunity not just legal equity but human ability not just equality ... • 46. Effects Of Production Stoppage On Ford Motor s Single... Risk #1: Losses caused by production stoppage in Ford Motor s single source suppliers Risk Description Although single sourcing can create an efficient, low cost supply chain model for many top manufacturers like Ford, dependence on a single source can also end up being quite costly for a company. If one of Ford s single suppliers halts production on any key component for any reason, there will be adverse effects. As Ford reported in their 2014 annual 10 K filing, many of the components in their vehicles cannot be re sourced quickly or inexpensively to another supplier because of long lead times and new contractual arrangements that the new supplier must follow (Ford Motor Co.). Ford has had complications with this particular risk in the past. In 1998, faulty software in a German supplier of door and trunk latches halted production in several of their factories. After a three day halt in Ford Fiestas and Pumas, it is estimated that the difficulties cost Ford up to 7,000 vehicles (Professional Engineering). Another example of the severity of the risk occurred several months prior to the 1998 Ford incident. Week long national strikes in Denmark froze Saab s supplier production of key engine parts. The halt in production left Saab without engine mounts for its newly launched vehicles. Ultimately, 4,250 factory workers were sent home at an approximate cost of $90,000,000 (inflation adjusted) (Professional Engineering). This has been a recurring problem in large manufacturers ... • 47. Environmental Factors Influencing the Internationalisation... Environmental factors influencing the internationalisation of a new venture in the German pork industry: A case study By George ten Kate University of Groningen Faculty of Economics and Business June 2012 Gerbrand Bakkerstraat 51 9713 HC Groningen (06)58967820 sjorstenkate@hotmail.nl Student number 1565095 Abstract This paper offers exploratory insights into the ways in which environmental factors influence the internationalisation of a new low technology firm, two topics that are largely understudied in the field of international entrepreneurship. By analysing data and literature, the influence of market conditions, industry characteristics and global niche market opportunities are examined, using a ... Research Question Although a big part of German exports consist of low technology products, almost all research about factors influencing internationalisation of new ventures, has been done focusing on companies that operate in the high technology industry. The environment in which these firms operate is very different from the environment in which low technology firms operate. High technology firms face high R D costs, short product life cycles and mostly operate in niche markets (Knight Cavusgill, 2004). These conditions are very different for low tech firms (Evers, 2010). Here, R D costs and product life cycles play no significant role. Since studies about new venture internationalisation are so heavily grounded in the high tech sector, little is known about the factors that affect the internationalisation of firms in the low tech sector. This raises the possibility that past findings do not generalize equally well to all economic sectors (Zahra George, 2002). Furthermore, little research has been done about how environmental factors influence new venture internationalisation, and more research is necessary to find out how these factors influence early internationalisation (Fernhaber, 2007). Environmental factors are factors that a firm cannot control, and that are part of the external environment they operate in (Zou and Stan, 1998). These factors can have a significant push and pull effect on new ventures to internationalise

  • 49. Endangered Species Of Primate Humans have always been a destructive species. Throughout history, and especially recently, humans have been the cause of many species going extinct or threatened of extinction. Primates are no exception to the destructive and damaging effects. Humans feel as if they are superior to other species, even those who are biologically similar to us. Humans feel the need to dominate other species which is one reason primates are being hunted. Many people who hunt primates claim that they are hunting for bushmeat. This statement is true, but it is not necessary in many areas where there are many more sources of protein. Some people in certain areas hunt primates for the sport of it, which is extremely devastating to many different species of primates. There have been some efforts made in order to protect certain species of primates. Another cause for endangered species of primates is deforestation. Some efforts that have been made are nature sanctuaries and creating laws against hunting. What needs to be done in order to decrease hunting and deforestation is education of subject to the people of the areas. One species of primate that is critically endangered due to the effects of humans, is the Hapalemur alaotrensis, or commonly referred to as the Alaotra Gentle Lemur. This lemur is critically endangered due to severe anthropogenic effects. Their habitats are destroyed by humans through fires and deforestation. They are then forced into small areas around them where they cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Stanislavski Set Affects The Actor The second part of this essay looks at how the set affects the actor. Something that is very prevalent in almost all of the pictures we see of Stanislavski on stage is his almost cluttered looking stage. Being a fan and believer of Naturalism his goal would be to bring the audience and even the actors into this world he d created. Having a fully immersive set yields positive and negative effects for the actors. The positive for this is as I stated earlier a full sense of immersion. Should the set looks and feels exactly as it should be then then less imagination is required from the actor. They can effortlessly work with their surroundings and focus all energy into their character. If all of these pieces come together the actor can receive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
