Laurent Clerc Research Paper
Born on December 26th, 1785 in the small village of La Balmes les Grottes, France, (a village on the
northeastern edge of Lyon) Laurent Clerc was born the only child to the Clerc family. The name of his
parents were Joseph Francois Clerc and Marie Elizabeth Candy. Joseph was the Royal Civil Attorney
and Justice of the Peace and his mother, Marie, was the magistrate of another town. His father was
also mayor of their village from 1780 1814. Although, soon they d come to realize their young boy
wasn t your average infant. It is unclear whether Laurent was born deaf or if it was caused from an
accident he had as a child. This newfound family had now begun with some altercations, but none
these loving parents wouldn t overcome. They kept Laurent safe and sound and as he grew, they
would find ways to communicate with him through home sign. ... Show more content on

He was so dedicated that he was even assigned to the highest class. Later, he sailed off with Thomas
Gallaudet (a former student of his) to finalize a school for the Deaf in America. They finally
accomplished this when they created the School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut. His incredible
ability to teach and relate to the students did not go unnoticed. Even today he is still known as a
renowned master teacher. His love for teaching made him stay in America longer than he desired. He
never did return to his family in France. Sadly, after a full life, Louis Laurent Marie Clerc, passed
away on July 18th, 1869 at the age of 83 years old. His wife and him were buried at the Spring Grove
Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut. Him and his wife s gravestones were actually vandalized and
damaged, but a man named, Alan Barwiolek along with the Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund, made sure
their headstones were returned to their former glory and respect. I think it s safe to say that teaching
was his life force, he died 10 years after

Three Main Stages Of Kurt Lewin s Model In Management
Kurt Lewin had a good contribution in regard to setting certain model related to management changes.
This model has three main stages, starting from unfreezing, moving to changing with refreezing and
finally refreezing. This model represents a very easy and practical model to comprehend the change
processes, Lewin did clarify that an organization would go through change due an importance which
reflects on the organization s level of proficiency and efficiency of work; all of which goes through
three stages and ends at the point of adapting the new behaviour after the enhancement process. Lewin
s model is still very popular and utilized in many modern models (Morrison, 2014).
Unfreeze
Lewin s model has three main stages, these stages give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process might be critical as at some point some might face a very slow refreezing process, as
transaction rarely stops in good shape and without any roughness(Morrison, 2014) . In most advanced
organizations this stage considered temporal , as they have another change right by the corner , in this
case this stage is not considered as a real refreezing stage, its just there to make the next refreezing
stage easier to adapt and accepted(Wirth , 2004) . However, many organizations find that their staff go
through a shock stage due to the change, and that does reflect on their competency level, and their
efficiency as well(Burnes, 2004) . Conclusion Lewin s model helps managers to execute the change in
their organizations , as this change covers the main three stages of unfreezing, change with refreezing ,
and refreezing. Lewin s stages gives enough direction to how deal with the change, people and help
them to overcome the stages and have stability in the refreezing stage. This does not change the fact,
that having cooperative people, who accept the change and embrace it , would make this process kick
smoothly and executed in the right way (Morrison, 2014)

New Moon Reflection
New Moon obviously lacks a base in a real story. It has vampires, werewolves, and all that nonsense
however that gives no decent excuse for the of believable scenes in this movie. Without believability,
a movies quality can remarkably lower. During the film, after Bella and her Friend Jacob fought,
Jacob shows up at Bella s house. Showing up shirtless, Jacob, superhuman jumps and climbs back in
forth from a tree and the side of her home into her bedroom window on the second floor. While this
behavior does not seem abnormal for someone of his werewolf type, Bella at this point in the movie
does not know his inner wolf. In fact, none of this odd behavior seems even to phase Bella. In
addition, Jacob, who has just broken her heart, comes in and starts speaking in riddles to Bella that
would involve her having to exactly remember just an ordinary conversation between the two that has
that takes place weeks prior. Somehow she magically remembers this conversation. None of the events
that happen seem even remotely believable. In particular, the lack of negative emotions Bella
expresses upon her face plays an influential role in the films utter lack of believability. Even though
Jacob, a friend guilty of lying to Bella, causes her emotional pain, Bella still finds herself listening
kindly to Jacob without hesitation. This highly unbelievable situation will most likely never happen in
real life. In addition, the scene exposes how Bella s willingness to give her current beliefs and
emotions all to have a moderately decent conversation with a boy she loves, in a friend way, further
demonstrating the central message that the story produces. This further exhibits the story s willingness
to push the message that love trumps anything and everything for love. Unfortunately, this does not
only happen once. A few scenes later, Bella learns that werewolves do in fact exist and her best friend,
Jacob, has the werewolf in him. After learning this new information, Bella goes to the family home to
meet the other wolves and the pack leaders, wife. In the movie, the wolves make it clear that their
identity as werewolves must remain a secret. However, Jacob indirectly breaks this rule and shares it
with Bella. At this home, the wife

Corporate Income Tax
The federal corporate income tax was created in 1909 with a rate of 1% for all businesses who had an
income above the line of $5,000. The tax rate has been as high as 52.8% in 1969 and has been divided
into different rates for different income levels. Today, the federal corporate income tax rate is a
uniform rate of 35% for companies who have an income of over $18.3 million. Throughout history,
people have debated whether lowering the federal corporate income tax rate will result in job creation.
Although lowering the tax rate might promote job creation within the country instead of job creation
overseas, support more company re investment in research and development, and allow consumers to
save more; lowering the federal corporate income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Ireland lowered its corporate tax rate to 12.5%, which got the economy booming. The
country s gross domestic product rate grew at a rate of around 26.3%. Ireland s low corporate tax rate
attracted successful foreign companies to invest in Ireland. For example, American companies such as
Microsoft, Google, and Apple all have subsidiaries in Ireland to take advantage of Ireland s low
corporate tax rate (Semeuls). However, the low corporate tax rate was not the only reason the country
had flourished. There were several other factors that helped boost Ireland s economy. One of them
included Ireland joining the European market in the 1990s, which allowed goods to flow freely across
the countries in the European Union. Soon, Ireland became an entry point within Europe and large
corporations started to use Ireland to manufacture goods and sell the goods to other European
countries without the attachment of any tariffs. In addition to Ireland joining the European market,
Ireland attracted many corporations to its country because it was primarily an English speaking
country. This helped in the ease of communication between the Irish government and the foreign
corporations. Another factor that helped boost Ireland s overall economy was that the Irish
government passed a number of educational reforms which led to a significant number of educated
graduates that came out of Irish schools (Semeuls). In the 1990s and 2000s, Ireland became a highly
attractive country for international companies because it acted as an easy trade center within the
European Single Market. Therefore, the low corporate tax rates was not the only reason Ireland s
economy boomed, but also a combination of factors, which was very specific to the country of Ireland
and that could not be copied by other countries, all came together to

Artificial Intelligence Dangers
What are the dangers and possible benefits of Artificial Intelligence? Throughout the course of history,
technological advances have proven to not only influence, but significantly impact one s quality of
life. Within society, there are those who strongly believe that these advancements have saved lives and
benefitted future generations, while others argue against it, firmly articulating that the progression of
technology will prove to work against the overall betterment of humanity. Despite this, one cannot
deny society s obsession and thirst for the next big technological advancement. Human s, never
content with what they have, are extremely vulnerable and susceptible to consumeristic tendencies.
Regardless of what is actually attainable, we always focus on the technology of the future. Perhaps the
definition of futuristic advancement can be best understood as Artificial Intelligence? Surprisingly the
days of Artificial Intelligence are approaching; however, with this revelation come challenging
questions. What can be gained through Artificial Intelligence how will humanity be impacted by this
technology? Are there potential dangers associated with it? Will Artificial Intelligence be a universal
advancement? Only through further exploration and analysis of these questions will one be able to
fully grasp the notion of Artificial Intelligence Studies have demonstrated that there are many diverse
ways that Artificial Intelligence can make one s

Critical Analysis Of Ordinary Men By Christopher Browning
Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning focuses on the true nature of the Nazi police officers during
World War II and how they became infamous for their actions against the Jewish population. This
piece adequately address the social context in which normal every day Germans could turn into killing
machines with a sole purpose of wiping out an entire demographic of people. Browning outlines his
research in his thesis which explains that the insidious effects of constant propaganda
indoctrination...made it all easier for the majority of the policemen to conform to the norms of their
immediate community. In this novel, Browning lays his arguments in a clear and concise manor that
make his audience a broader reach for all those interested in a history of the Holocaust.
Christopher Browning is best known for his work and research surrounding the time of the Holocaust.
He, as a fundamentalist, shifts the focus from the leadership of Hitler to the institution of the Third
Reich itself as the culprit of atrocities. While there is plenty blame to hand to Hitler, his belief system
states that there were many other factors included to the creation of the Final Solution. Browning was
a professor of history from 1972 to 2014, with a specialization in Nazis and Holocaust history. He is a
member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; whose purpose is to study and make
advancements from intellectual conundrums effecting society. Because of his key knowledge of this

gallons of oil to be spilled into the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 workers in what is said to be the worst
oil spill in history (Weber, 2010). Mission, Vision, and Values Statements
The mission and vision statement at BP is based upon value statements and a code of conduct. They
want to be recognized as a great company that is competitively successful and a force for progress.
For example, they believe that they can make a difference in the world by meeting the growing
demands for heat, light and mobility. To accomplish this, they plan to produce energy that is
affordable, secure, and doesn t damage the environment ( How we run, n.d.).
The core values that drive their mission are: progressive, responsible, innovative and performance
driven. Progressive for them means that they believe in the principle of mutual advantage and building
productive relationships with each other, their partners and their customers. Responsible means that
they are committed to the safety and development of their people, their communities, and the societies

The International Commercial Arbitration Process
The International Commercial Arbitration process is a means whereby disputes related to businesses
involving transnational parties are resolved by using arbitrators instead of taking the matter through a
judicial system in the courts. The arbitration process requires that there is an agreement between the
parties involvd. This agreement is brought forward by an agreement clause that is usually found in the
business contract agreement and decision made is binding (Moses M 2012). According to
UNCITRAL, arbitration is an internationally recognized process. A commercial arbitration is one that
deals with matters arising as a result of relationships caused by commercial nature regardless of
whether it is contractual or not.
This arbitration process is preferred by many due to various reasons; the litigation in a court that is
foreign is times very expensive ,time consuming and can lead to the development of adversarial
relationships between the parties, the arbitration awards by the tribunal are recognized internationally
for about 140 countries worldwide abide to the terms of Convention on Recognition and enforcement
of Foreign Arbitral Awards of 1958 also known as the New York convention and the arbitration panel
is composed of arbitrators who are chosen by the parties involved. The arbitration is also a highly
confidential process with the arbitral awards issued being final and binding hence leaving no chance
for appeals ( Bennett S 2002).

Analysis Of Neutral Tones By Thomas Hardy
To experience feelings of delight and bliss individuals must also face difficult times to help them
better recognize and appreciate their future happiness. Without experiencing sadness and heartbreak
people would be significantly less appreciative of their future lovers and self. To fully feel what love
is, you must have experienced loss because without feeling how painful the flip side of situation is
there would be no way of feeling anything at all, which would drive everyone to be completely numb.
Throughout the following poems Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , My mistress eyes are

experiences about love, with a major emphasis on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poem from 1633 entitled The Flea by John Donne s shines a light on a man trying to persuade a
woman into being intimate with him, but the female struck him down through her strong sense of self.
Although a main focus of this poem is the hardships of two people having different intentions in a
relationship, the female also manages to show a significant amount of self love. Too often people try
to focus on each others needs rather than their own, which can backfire and lead to someone being in
an uncomfortable situation. But when she struck down the fly she also struck down his argument that
they needed to become intimate hence showing a strong sense of self worth. Rather than giving into
the man s wishes she sticks to her personal boundaries and morals which shows the readers a great
example of self love and standing up for yourself.
In Shakespeare s poem My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun published in 1609, he successfully
expresses a few more difficulties of love through a humorous tone. Women are too often held to high
beauty standards which Shakespeare strikes down by helping the readers realize that beauty is in the
eye of the beholder and that nature should not be compared to women in the first place. By making
multiple comparisons between his lover and nature Shakespeare focuses on being honest and having
realistic standards for his

Hero of Journalism
On July 20th, 2013, the day female journalist Helen Thomas passed away, President Obama released a

death of a reporter, but Helen Thomas was far more than merely a reporter; she was a hero. The
veteran journalist worked for the United Press and United Press International for 57 years. During her
long career life, she never failed to keep presidents on their toes (Obama, 2013). Her work led females

Startle Response Psychology
Specifically, patients who experience FTLD have shown emotional changes that are consistent with
self relevant processing. However, individuals with FTLD still exhibit primitive aspects of an
emotional response (i.e. the startle response), which is commonly followed by embarrassment. As
indicated by prior research, embarrassment is a self conscious response that is dependent on specific
regions in the frontal cortex. Due to these findings Sturm et al. (2006), hypothesized that the startle
response would remain intact with patients with FTLD, but the self conscious emotional aspect will
not be present. Researchers gathered 30 patients with FTLD and 23 cognitively normal patients as a

crucial in emotional functioning. Once again researchers sought to investigate the neural correlates of
self conscious emotional reactivity by using the same physiological reactivity measurements with
additional add ons (i.e. respiration depth, and finger temperature). As for the emotional behavior
measurement, investigators videotaped the participant s behavior. Specifically, participants were asked
to engage in a karaoke task, which they later had to watch as a measure for embarrassment. The non
self conscious emotional reactivity was measured through asking the participants to view a sad video
clip. Prior to the experiment, participants were required to partake in a clinical evaluation which

The History of Television and the NBA
The National Basketball Association, or NBA has grown up over the last few decades. Once on the
verge of collapse, and unwanted by television, the NBA has rebounded to become quite possibly the
most popular league in the nation. It was through television that the league finally established itself as
a worthy opponent to Major League Baseball and the National Football League. The NBA got its first
television exposure during the 1953 54 season on the long since folded DuMont network. At that time,
baseball was still the national pastime, and pro football was beginning to take the spotlight as the
favorite sport. Even college basketball was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The savior for the NBA emerged in the form of Danny Biasone, who instituted the 24 second shot
clock that most agree, saved the league. The 1954 55 seasons was the first played with the shot clock,
and the results were a more wide open style of play far more attractive to television viewers. The NBA
has been selected for this study to determine how television coverage changed mass media coverage
of basketball and the way the viewers perceived the game.
Perhaps no sport was more influenced by the advent of television than professional basketball. From
the earliest days of television, NBA officials realized the power of the medium and they realized that
any chances they had for success were directly linked to their survival on television. Players and
coaches alike were concerned with the way their game was presented on television, even during the
league s first decade on television. This made it clear that everyone in the NBA knew that league
success was directly related to television. NBA officials also knew that in order to appeal to viewers,
they would have to implement rules that would make the NBA product more viewer friendly. In the
early 1950s, the NBA suffered from the perception that it was a slow paced game. This was due to the
fact that in those days, if a team had the lead into the fourth quarter, it would freeze the ball and turn
the game into a tedious foul shooting exhibition. This style of play threatened the NBA s survival

Life, Death, and the Political Issues Surrounding Abortion
Life, Death, and the Political
issues surrounding Abortion
Few issues have embodied such controversy as abortion has. The various people involved in the
abortion debate not only have strong beliefs, but each group has a self appeal that clearly reflects what
they believe to be the essential issues. The abortion supporters see individual choice as central to the
debate: If a woman cannot choose to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, a condition which affects her
body and possibly her entire life, then she has lost one of her most basic human rights. These issues of
abortion believe that while a fetus is a potential life, its life cannot be placed on the same level with
that of a woman. On the other side, the anti abortionist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument over abortion has avoided the real issue facing today s woman, her need to grow beyond
stereotypes. Whenever an individual or group realizes it has been treated unjustly, the first reaction is
anger, but often the anger is firs expressed as aggression. People outgrowing oppression have so much
built up inside, so many memories of powerlessness, and so little knowledge of how to make
themselves be heard. Violence towards others usually end up as the result. American men and women
are among the most fair minded, but have slowly begun to feel that 4,000 abortions a day is enough.
The abortion mentality has encouraged women to think of themselves as victims. Much emphasis is
placed on pregnancy as a result of rape, even though the statistics show only about .1% of all rapes
actually resulting in conception. That means that a large majority of pregnancies that resulted in
abortion were the result of free choice. The assumption is that a woman does not have control over her
own body until after a male partner is finished with it. Why is that? Where is their sense of pride?
Maybe they re just looking at responsibilities as well as rights, and choosing instead of reacting. Pro
choice supporters argue that abortion should be viewed as not be immoral, and sometimes a necessary
choice a woman must make in order to be in charge of her life. Considering pregnancy from a woman
s point of view, it can be very dangerous to

Mosaddeq s Nationalization of Oil in Iran

of calculation and skill, and nothing happens in a vacuum. Everything that happens affects the other
players sets of options and levels of risk. In analyzing historical events in international relations, it is
incumbent upon the analyst to take into consideration the historical and regional context to what
happened.
At the time of the coup that overthrew Premier Mosaddeq, several world events had just happened:
key were the 1949 Chinese Revolution and Iran s 1951 nationalization of its oil industry. The Korean

It should be remembered that India was governed by Premier Nehru, and moving into the Soviet
sphere of influence; as a result, the US sought to bring Pakistan into its fold. A socialist Iran would
make Pakistan s position exceedingly precarious. The stated policy of the Eisenhower Administration
was stopping communism wherever it encroached, and rolling it back wherever possible (Daalder). In
1954, the CIA would organize a coup d état in Guatemala, overthrowing the democratically elected
socialist Jacobo Arbenz
Besides the imperative to fight communism, the prospect of anti Western nationalism must have also
appeared to the US and Great Britain as a problem to be eliminated. Syria had experienced a
succession of coups between 1949 and 1951 that left the country under the control of Ba ath (socialist
and nationalist) and SSNP (conservative and nationalist) Army officers (Britannica 2). Col. Gemal

background, anti colonial agitation in Algeria had been actively repressed by the French since the
1940s; and Israel was founded in 1948, at the expense of 750,000 expelled Palestinians, which further
catalyzed anti Westernism in the Middle East. At the same time, Britain s Prime Minister was colonial

To be a Socially responsible person takes a lot for someone to trust you and for you to receive that
award, which is why I chose the assignment Culminations due to it being one of the best examples of
being a socially responsible person. You give and are trusted with the responsibility of being trusted
outside of the school to get lunch because you ve been doing your work and are considered a college
ready student. For the Researcher , I chose the Hamilton assignment, we had to do so that we would
get the privilege to go see the Hamilton theater show, Because it s such a wanted show it was
understandable how much research is required for the assignment having to look up original
documents in specific events in time. My topic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

college without a need to go to an adult school. I feel as though I improved in that sense, but also
expanded my mind as a creative writer with my personal work. My strengths and weaknesses as a
student would honestly have to be to just stay quiet and not get many friends only have one or two the
rest just keep as your acquaintance increase you would need to use them for anything else. Outside of
school have as many as you would like but inside of school only have two more than that is too much

definitely say is my weakness, not knowing when to stop. As for a strength, it s most likely having a

Developments and Possiblilities of Solar Power
Solar power has been around for many years. The very first silicon based photovoltaic was invented
by Bell Labs back in 1954. At this time the cost per watt was high at $285 and in 2009 it dropped to a
mere $3.00 per watt (Solar Tech USA, 2014). Solar energy dates back as far as the 2nd century with
the Greeks and Romans starting fires through broken glass. Indirect benefits from solar have been
used way back to even photosynthesis (Bengtson, 2012). Passive solar energy was used to heat
building by using the design to capture the sun for heating and lighting. Moving into the 20th century
major changes have accrued and there is now concentrating solar power technologies for centralized
solar thermal plants (Bengtson, 2012). The public believes that solar is not yet ready to take charge
and become a major source of power, yet some experts disagree. Solar power in the 21st century has
magnified many possibilities for solar use. Photovoltaic has created a large economic benefit by
reducing the cost of other resources as well as its own for example solar heated water heaters have cut
the cost of gas and electricity (Bengtson, 2012). Germany is a great example of how solar is in huge
demand and working well to serve the consumers. Germany has 5 times the solar power the United
States is currently using although Germany does not get a great deal of sun (Brad Plumer, 2013).
Germany is the world leader in solar power and with the use of other renewable source has subsidized

The Powerful Roman Empire On Ancient Times

The Powerful Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was one of the most well known empires in history. It was the most powerful of
all of the empires and covered at least a part of over fifty present day countries. It covered the most
area out of all of the empires in history. Other than the Spartans, the Roman Empire had the most
powerful army of the ancient world and contained over 20% of the world population back then. The
Roman s ingenuity created many inventions as well, such as the arch, which, with aqueducts, would
revolutionize the transport of water and other supplies across the empire. The Roman Empire was the

One main reason that the Roman Empire expanded so much was because of their many good emperors
such as Trajan and his successor Hadrian.
Trajan was emperor of Rome from 98 117 CE and is considered one of the Five Good Emperors of
Rome. One reason Trajan was considered such a good emperor was because he was kind and generous
to the Roman People and Senate. Because of this, Trajan was one of the reasons that Rome could have
so much land and be at the height of their power during his reign. Trajan made sure that the poor were
fed and cared for, and almost everybody in his empire liked him. Aside from his kindness, Trajan was
also recognized for his achievements in war and expanding Rome to its height in 117 AD with 5
million square kilometers. Throughout Trajan s reign, he captured Dacia, or present day Romania, and
the Parthian Empire, or the Persians with his skill in fighting. Following Trajan s death in 117,
Hadrian rose to the throne. Hadrian is considered another one of the five good emperors of Rome,
except Hadrian was different than Trajan in that he unified and consolidated Rome rather than seize
more land as Trajan had. Rather than expand the Empire, Hadrian ruled justly and traveled around his
empire and rectified tax situations. Hadrian is most well known for building a wall across Britain to
keep out barbarians called Hadrian s Wall. Although these emperors helped maintain the Roman

Culture is not only being diverse country, but also values too. People thought there was only one
culture per country. Culture is from by huge groups of people that share a common idea. That idea can
be any value that is precious to them. It important to have a culture because it the background define
our being. The differences between the USA and Vietnam are striking, and they deserve rigorous
examination. Even thought wedding seem to the same for USA and Vietnam it is not.
The wedding has the same meaning for both countries, which that is bonding of a man and woman.
The method of doing the wedding is very different. The comparison of USA to Vietnam is very unique
to each other when come to gather for main wedding. The wedding in America has no real special pre

she will accept it. At Vietnam you must get permission from the parent of a girl ... Show more content

Source of the food is a huge factor for comparing between USA and Vietnam. In America, their foods
often come from the land, then the sea. Vietnam relies on sea for resource but they do still have land
resource. The land in Vietnam is topical forest, which that is unique to America wood forest. Use of
wheat is diverse in the world. America makes their wheat into bread while Vietnam made rice from
wheat. The farm in America raises chicken, pig, and cow; unlike Vietnam they also raise duck, goat,
and crawfish. The cooking methods are used differently in theses countries. America likes to grill or
fry their meat than to Vietnam boiling or slow cook. The major factor is that America like to eat more
of beef and chicken into Vietnam that cook fish and pork. Seasoning their food a lot in a form of a

standardized to be the commodities. there are three types of commodities, energy commodities, metal
commodities and commodities. commodities markets have been created before 150 years in the united
states and commodities trading had existed in Japan before more than a 1,000 years.Agricultural
commodities were the first commodities traded.Nowadays, commodity trading represents around a

nevertheless, financialization of commodities markets had created a large amounts of commodity
assets and high returns and thus boost the commodities demand. as a result of the increasing interest in
commodities, several institutions have created commodity indexes. commodity index is a fixed
weighted average of selected commodity prices, which based on futures prices or spot prices. These
indexes represent the board commodity asset prices for a certain commodity as gold, oil and wheat.
Recently, most of commodities trading are over the counter (OTC) markets in which there is no formal
markets or trading exchange and therefore no fixed sturdy regulations. Primarily, researches on
commodity markets have focused on price changes and commodity risk. these studies are very
significant because of the growing rule of commodities in the asset markets and as a result of the
increasing volatility. Moreover, this importance is owing to the fact that commodity returns have
specific characteristic as asymmetry, non normal distribution and fat tails.(Chkili, Hammoudeh and
Nguyen, 2014, p1) The global economy encounters series of collapses and booms in commodity
prices. These booms have negatively influenced the commodities producers and consumers around the
world. The OPEC imposed oil embargo on the united States and Europe had resulted in the first
collapse in the 1970 s. In the beginning of 2000 s commodities prices started to

Gross Income Implications For The Individual Who Accepted...
Gross Income implications for the individual who accepted the bribe:
The definition of gross income per section 1 of the Income Tax Act for any resident is:
the total amount
in cash or otherwise
received by, or accrued to, or in favour of such resident
during such year or period of assessment
excluding receipts and accruals of a capital nature
The bribe of R300 000 meets all the aforementioned requirements of the gross income definition
except for whether or not the amount has been received by the senior official during the year of
assessment ending 28 February 2015.
The gross income definition requirement of received by is not defined in the Income Tax Act and
therefore the following case law principles will be applied in determining whether the bribe, being
illegal income, should be included in the individuals gross income for the current year of assessment.
Cases:
An amount is received by a tax payer if the taxpayer intended to receive the amount for his own
benefit irrespective of the legality(legal or illegal) of such amounts (MP Finance Group CC v CSARS
(2007)).
The source of income, legal or illegal, is irrelevant in determining if an amount constitutes gross
income. Moreover, illegal receipts are taxable(CIR v Delagoa Bay Cigarette Co)
In order to constitute a receipt for normal tax purposes, the taxpayer must have received the amount
on his own benefit and for his own behalf (Geldenhuys v CIR).
It can be deduced using the above

Valentine s Day Persuasive Speech
You sound like Caroline. You met her briefly at the bar before her band got on stage. Anyways, some
assholes chased her sister a while back, and she s been trying to raise awareness about the predators in
the city. You should connect with her. Thanks, I might do that. She s the one having a Valentine s Day
wedding. It was more of a statement than a question. Sylvie always dreamed of a big dreamy wedding
on the most romantic day of the year. She d planned to marry Renny too, but some plans weren t
meant to be. Some people weren t meant to have happily ever after. He yawned again, covering his
mouth. Yup. Personally, I don t get the big hoopla about Valentine s Day. It s a made up holiday where
men are forced to spend a stupid amount of money on crap. Flowers that die in less than a week or
chocolate that s been sitting on the shelve since the previous holiday. It s funny to me that you buy
into that hype. I m glad I ve never had to celebrate. How could anyone not like Valentine s Day? Love
deserves to be celebrated. It s romantic and what do you mean you ve never celebrated? Surely, you
bought Marianne presents and took her out for dinner. I m pragmatic. Oh, she bitched a little when I
didn t get all bent out of shape over the commercialized date. I don t want to be forced to do things
because I m supposed to. When I wanted to, I bought her gifts. I didn t have much money when we
dated, so I let her pick the movie on that date. Don t look so appalled. Gestures from

Clara Machumann If You Love For Beauty s Sake Analysis
The composer I chose is Clara Wieck Schumann. The piece that I chose to be analyzed is called If You
Love for Beauty s Sake . Clara Schumann was born in 1819, she is also known as one of the most
talented musicians in the Romantic era. Being a skilled pianist at such a young age, she excelled
throughout her career. Some people only know her as the wife of Robert Schumann, who was also a
famous composer in this era. Like Robert, she composed her own music. Clara went through tough
obstacles in order to obtain her status. There are many aspects of her life that influenced her and the
person she became.
To continue, Clara s husband Robert Schumann was unable to compose music after a few years. This
is the time that she stepped to make both of their music. Eventually, Robert was diagnosed with
depression and had to be taken to a mental asylum. This specific event was very heartbreaking to her
and her family. Clara Schumann ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clara being young at the time certainly did not persuade society that she was as skilled and determined
as she was. During this era, women had to prove their quality of music was extraordinary. Women
were expected to raise a family, not compose music. It was certainly not common at the time to see a
woman being a musician. Society was trying to tell her that she was not important enough to go
through with her passion. Clara got well known musicians to take her seriously and persuaded them
that women could be gifted in music. Clara fought through many assumptions of her and rose to the
top. After she became known for being an appreciable pianist, society and male musicians during the
period started to see her as an equal. Clara was in a musical society that was entirely conquered by
men, getting their praise was a very great point in her life. In the end, she raised any expectations that
were ever given, becoming one of the first women to go on an international tour for her

Safety Enforcement By Police And The Fire Department Essay
There are two images. Imagine you are walking down the sidewalk next to your home, and you see a
small boy riding a bike. The child accidentally hits a curb with the bike, and falls over, scraping his
head on the concrete. You see a nasty gash, and quickly help the boy stop the bleeding while
determining if it is a life threatening injury. Depending on what you find, you might call for an
ambulance, or if it is not threatening, you might just walk the boy back to his home and help him back
to his parents. In either case, you have demonstrated social responsibility. However, there is another
image. Imagine you are busy filing papers in your office. You happen to glance at your phone and see
a notification from your news source reporting a wildfire outbreak about 50 miles away. In this case,
all you can do is remain updated as to what is happening, and be vigilant to obey safety enforcement
by police and the fire department. That is the normal apex of an individual s social responsibility in
such a circumstance. On the other hand, professional privilege has a significant role in this, especially
in the context of public relations. It is the expectation of public relations and media sources to report
the happenings with accuracy and promptness. By looking more closely at professional privilege and
social responsibility in context of public relations, one should be able to gain a better understanding as
to how they relate to each other. As read in the article What is Social

pursuit of growth is a win for me. Quite frankly, I am a different voice from what many listeners are
used to (read that as Person of Color). Some of my views take listeners aback. I violate their beliefs,
making them quite uncomfortable, which subjects me to some interesting migro aggressions when I
dampen their echo chambers. My inbox usually has a gem waiting for me a few days after a show

Mary Oliver s Use Of Imagery In Crossing The Swamp

Crossing the Swamp In the poem Crossing the Swamp, the poet Mary Oliver uses techniques such as
imagery, diction, and irony to develop a relationship between the speaker and the swamp. These
techniques are used to show the relationship between the speaker and the swamp. In Crossing the
Swamp imagery is a technique used by the author to develop a relationship between the speaker and
the swamp. An example of this relationship being developed through imagery is when the author says,
I feel not wet so much as painted and glittered with the fat grassey mires, the rich and succulent
marrows of earth. This shows the speaker enjoying their

Internet Tracking
Electronic passage through the Internet leaves a trail that can be traced. Tracing is a process that
follows the Internet activity backwards, from the recipient to the user. As well, a user s Internet
activity on web sites can also be tracked on the recipient site i.e., what sites are visited and how often.
Sometimes this tracking and tracing ability is used to generate email to the user promoting a product
that is related to the sites visited. User information, however, can also be gathered covertly. This
leaves us wondering if tracking devices violates the user s privacy.
There are different types of tracking devices; most common one is called cookies. Cookies are

Most computers have cookies, which are placed on a person s hard drive when a banner ad is

when they see a banner ad. But people can t see web bugs, and anti cookie filters won t catch them. So
the web bugs wind up tracking surfers in areas online where banner ads are not present or on sites
where people may not expect to be trailed.
That was the case last month when the White House ordered its drug policy office to stop using web

administration issued strict new rules regulating federal use of the technology which can

The Importance Of Diversity In College Campuses
Overall diversity in college campuses has been held back with the SAT because of its unfair standards.
In an article called These Four Charts Show How the SAT Favors Rich, Educated Families. written by
Zachary Goldfarb, there are statistical charts one of them show that a student who has a parent that has
obtained a graduate degree on average score 300 points higher than those who have parents with a
lower education. Keep in mind that the article was published by The Washington Post which has won
eight pulitzer awards and is considered to be a main source for news. As far as the statistics
themselves, I find it to be extremely unfair that students with parents who never had the opportunity to
obtain a degree are put in a disadvantage, the amount of people that statistic applies to could range
from kids of an immigrant parent to low class students who have parents that could never afford ...

Laurent Clerc Research Paper Born on December 26th, 1785 in the small village of La Balmes les Grottes, France, (a village on the northeastern edge of Lyon) Laurent Clerc was born the only child to the Clerc family. The name of his parents were Joseph Francois Clerc and Marie Elizabeth Candy. Joseph was the Royal Civil Attorney and Justice of the Peace and his mother, Marie, was the magistrate of another town. His father was also mayor of their village from 1780 1814. Although, soon they d come to realize their young boy wasn t your average infant. It is unclear whether Laurent was born deaf or if it was caused from an accident he had as a child. This newfound family had now begun with some altercations, but none these loving parents wouldn t overcome. They kept Laurent safe and sound and as he grew, they would find ways to communicate with him through home sign. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was so dedicated that he was even assigned to the highest class. Later, he sailed off with Thomas Gallaudet (a former student of his) to finalize a school for the Deaf in America. They finally accomplished this when they created the School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut. His incredible ability to teach and relate to the students did not go unnoticed. Even today he is still known as a renowned master teacher. His love for teaching made him stay in America longer than he desired. He never did return to his family in France. Sadly, after a full life, Louis Laurent Marie Clerc, passed away on July 18th, 1869 at the age of 83 years old. His wife and him were buried at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut. Him and his wife s gravestones were actually vandalized and damaged, but a man named, Alan Barwiolek along with the Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund, made sure their headstones were returned to their former glory and respect. • 3. Three Main Stages Of Kurt Lewin s Model In Management Kurt Lewin had a good contribution in regard to setting certain model related to management changes. This model has three main stages, starting from unfreezing, moving to changing with refreezing and finally refreezing. This model represents a very easy and practical model to comprehend the change processes, Lewin did clarify that an organization would go through change due an importance which reflects on the organization s level of proficiency and efficiency of work; all of which goes through three stages and ends at the point of adapting the new behaviour after the enhancement process. Lewin s model is still very popular and utilized in many modern models (Morrison, 2014). Unfreeze Lewin s model has three main stages, these stages give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process might be critical as at some point some might face a very slow refreezing process, as transaction rarely stops in good shape and without any roughness(Morrison, 2014) . In most advanced organizations this stage considered temporal , as they have another change right by the corner , in this case this stage is not considered as a real refreezing stage, its just there to make the next refreezing stage easier to adapt and accepted(Wirth , 2004) . However, many organizations find that their staff go through a shock stage due to the change, and that does reflect on their competency level, and their efficiency as well(Burnes, 2004) . Conclusion Lewin s model helps managers to execute the change in their organizations , as this change covers the main three stages of unfreezing, change with refreezing , and refreezing. Lewin s stages gives enough direction to how deal with the change, people and help them to overcome the stages and have stability in the refreezing stage. This does not change the fact, that having cooperative people, who accept the change and embrace it , would make this process kick smoothly and executed in the right way (Morrison, 2014) ... • 4. New Moon Reflection New Moon obviously lacks a base in a real story. It has vampires, werewolves, and all that nonsense however that gives no decent excuse for the of believable scenes in this movie. Without believability, a movies quality can remarkably lower. During the film, after Bella and her Friend Jacob fought, Jacob shows up at Bella s house. Showing up shirtless, Jacob, superhuman jumps and climbs back in forth from a tree and the side of her home into her bedroom window on the second floor. While this behavior does not seem abnormal for someone of his werewolf type, Bella at this point in the movie does not know his inner wolf. In fact, none of this odd behavior seems even to phase Bella. In addition, Jacob, who has just broken her heart, comes in and starts speaking in riddles to Bella that would involve her having to exactly remember just an ordinary conversation between the two that has that takes place weeks prior. Somehow she magically remembers this conversation. None of the events that happen seem even remotely believable. In particular, the lack of negative emotions Bella expresses upon her face plays an influential role in the films utter lack of believability. Even though Jacob, a friend guilty of lying to Bella, causes her emotional pain, Bella still finds herself listening kindly to Jacob without hesitation. This highly unbelievable situation will most likely never happen in real life. In addition, the scene exposes how Bella s willingness to give her current beliefs and emotions all to have a moderately decent conversation with a boy she loves, in a friend way, further demonstrating the central message that the story produces. This further exhibits the story s willingness to push the message that love trumps anything and everything for love. Unfortunately, this does not only happen once. A few scenes later, Bella learns that werewolves do in fact exist and her best friend, Jacob, has the werewolf in him. After learning this new information, Bella goes to the family home to meet the other wolves and the pack leaders, wife. In the movie, the wolves make it clear that their identity as werewolves must remain a secret. However, Jacob indirectly breaks this rule and shares it with Bella. At this home, the wife ... • 5. Corporate Income Tax The federal corporate income tax was created in 1909 with a rate of 1% for all businesses who had an income above the line of $5,000. The tax rate has been as high as 52.8% in 1969 and has been divided into different rates for different income levels. Today, the federal corporate income tax rate is a uniform rate of 35% for companies who have an income of over $18.3 million. Throughout history, people have debated whether lowering the federal corporate income tax rate will result in job creation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Ireland lowered its corporate tax rate to 12.5%, which got the economy booming. The country s gross domestic product rate grew at a rate of around 26.3%. Ireland s low corporate tax rate attracted successful foreign companies to invest in Ireland. For example, American companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple all have subsidiaries in Ireland to take advantage of Ireland s low corporate tax rate (Semeuls). However, the low corporate tax rate was not the only reason the country had flourished. There were several other factors that helped boost Ireland s economy. One of them included Ireland joining the European market in the 1990s, which allowed goods to flow freely across the countries in the European Union. Soon, Ireland became an entry point within Europe and large corporations started to use Ireland to manufacture goods and sell the goods to other European countries without the attachment of any tariffs. In addition to Ireland joining the European market, Ireland attracted many corporations to its country because it was primarily an English speaking country. This helped in the ease of communication between the Irish government and the foreign corporations. Another factor that helped boost Ireland s overall economy was that the Irish government passed a number of educational reforms which led to a significant number of educated graduates that came out of Irish schools (Semeuls). In the 1990s and 2000s, Ireland became a highly attractive country for international companies because it acted as an easy trade center within the European Single Market. Therefore, the low corporate tax rates was not the only reason Ireland s economy boomed, but also a combination of factors, which was very specific to the country of Ireland and that could not be copied by other countries, all came together to ... Analysis Of Neutral Tones By Thomas Hardy To experience feelings of delight and bliss individuals must also face difficult times to help them better recognize and appreciate their future happiness. Without experiencing sadness and heartbreak people would be significantly less appreciative of their future lovers and self. To fully feel what love is, you must have experienced loss because without feeling how painful the flip side of situation is there would be no way of feeling anything at all, which would drive everyone to be completely numb. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This poem from 1633 entitled The Flea by John Donne s shines a light on a man trying to persuade a woman into being intimate with him, but the female struck him down through her strong sense of self. Although a main focus of this poem is the hardships of two people having different intentions in a relationship, the female also manages to show a significant amount of self love. Too often people try to focus on each others needs rather than their own, which can backfire and lead to someone being in an uncomfortable situation. But when she struck down the fly she also struck down his argument that they needed to become intimate hence showing a strong sense of self worth. Rather than giving into the man s wishes she sticks to her personal boundaries and morals which shows the readers a great example of self love and standing up for yourself. In Shakespeare s poem My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun published in 1609, he successfully expresses a few more difficulties of love through a humorous tone. Women are too often held to high beauty standards which Shakespeare strikes down by helping the readers realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that nature should not be compared to women in the first place. By making multiple comparisons between his lover and nature Shakespeare focuses on being honest and having realistic standards for his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, individuals with FTLD still exhibit primitive aspects of an emotional response (i.e. the startle response), which is commonly followed by embarrassment. As indicated by prior research, embarrassment is a self conscious response that is dependent on specific regions in the frontal cortex. Due to these findings Sturm et al. As for the emotional behavior measurement, investigators videotaped the participant s behavior. History Of Television And The Nba Zachary Scanlon Jerry Chandler 20 November 2015 COMM 201 The History of Television and the NBA The National Basketball Association, or NBA has grown up over the last few decades. Once on the verge of collapse, and unwanted by television, the NBA has rebounded to become quite possibly the most popular league in the nation. It was through television that the league finally established itself as a worthy opponent to Major League Baseball and the National Football League. The NBA got its first television exposure during the 1953 54 season on the long since folded DuMont network. The NBA has been selected for this study to determine how television coverage changed mass media coverage of basketball and the way the viewers perceived the game. Perhaps no sport was more influenced by the advent of television than professional basketball. From the earliest days of television, NBA officials realized the power of the medium and they realized that any chances they had for success were directly linked to their survival on television. Players and coaches alike were concerned with the way their game was presented on television, even during the league s first decade on television. This made it clear that everyone in the NBA knew that league success was directly related to television. NBA officials also knew that in order to appeal to viewers, they would have to implement rules that would make the NBA product more viewer friendly. In the early 1950s, the NBA suffered from the perception that it was a slow paced game. This was due to the fact that in those days, if a team had the lead into the fourth quarter, it would freeze the ball and turn the game into a tedious foul shooting exhibition. The various people involved in the abortion debate not only have strong beliefs, but each group has a self appeal that clearly reflects what they believe to be the essential issues. The abortion supporters see individual choice as central to the debate: If a woman cannot choose to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, a condition which affects her body and possibly her entire life, then she has lost one of her most basic human rights. Whenever an individual or group realizes it has been treated unjustly, the first reaction is anger, but often the anger is firs expressed as aggression. Violence towards others usually end up as the result. American men and women are among the most fair minded, but have slowly begun to feel that 4,000 abortions a day is enough. The abortion mentality has encouraged women to think of themselves as victims. Much emphasis is placed on pregnancy as a result of rape, even though the statistics show only about .1% of all rapes actually resulting in conception. That means that a large majority of pregnancies that resulted in abortion were the result of free choice. The assumption is that a woman does not have control over her own body until after a male partner is finished with it. Why is that? Where is their sense of pride? Maybe they re just looking at responsibilities as well as rights, and choosing instead of reacting. Pro choice supporters argue that abortion should be viewed as not be immoral, and sometimes a necessary choice a woman must make in order to be in charge of her life. At this time the cost per watt was high at $285 and in 2009 it dropped to a mere $3.00 per watt (Solar Tech USA, 2014). Solar energy dates back as far as the 2nd century with the Greeks and Romans starting fires through broken glass. Indirect benefits from solar have been used way back to even photosynthesis (Bengtson, 2012). Passive solar energy was used to heat building by using the design to capture the sun for heating and lighting. Moving into the 20th century major changes have accrued and there is now concentrating solar power technologies for centralized solar thermal plants (Bengtson, 2012). The public believes that solar is not yet ready to take charge and become a major source of power, yet some experts disagree. Solar power in the 21st century has magnified many possibilities for solar use. Photovoltaic has created a large economic benefit by reducing the cost of other resources as well as its own for example solar heated water heaters have cut the cost of gas and electricity (Bengtson, 2012).
