Trust In Speckled Band And A Retrieved Reformation
Overall Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle, and A
Retrieved Reformation by O. Henry, have many themes in common. I could ve chosen so many
other ones besides this theme. I decided to chose the theme of trust. Trust, as in whether you should
trust someone or not. Two of the characters in the stories have been around people that they have
trusted when maybe they shouldn t have. One of the characters was the person that people shouldn
t put their full trust in. Trust is a hard thing, something that should be learned and earned. Some
people don t deserve to be trusted, but get trusted anyways. Throughout all three stories the
characters learned a lesson about trust, whether to not trust or to only trust... Show more content on

In the three stories the characters learned that too. Helen learned to take in all the behaviors of
the people around her and then evaluate whether they are trustworthy or not. Even though Helen
knew Doctor Roylott basically her whole life, doesn t mean that he had a different view of her.
Johnny Valentine misused the people around him, people that he called family, in Elmore. He
never had the intention of lying to them, or at least never meant for them to find out that he was.
Charlie realized that because of the way that his brain works, people will never treat him like they
would treat a normal processing human being. His so called friends used him for their enjoyment
and embarrassed him over and over again. Charlie was finally done with the people that he used to
trust and call his friends and moved away because he wanted a fresh start with people that he could
trust. Flowers for Algernon , Speckled Band , and A Retrieved Reformation had many lessons and
themes to be learned, I thought that trust was the most important lesson because trust is something
that everybody needs to learn and

How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
Personal Narrative Living for God
As I was driving into the church parking lot I had to take a deep breath. After leaving another
frustrating day at school and then going to work right afterwards, I needed to calm myself
down. I looked in the rear view mirror one more time to make sure I looked halfway presentable. I
fixed my wind blown hair by pulling it back in a high ponytail and put on some Burt s Bees lip balm
before exiting the car. I grabbed my Bible and notebook and locked the doors. As I walked towards
the youth building a wave of comfort washed over me.
I love the feeling I get every time I step into the youth room at my church. It s a reassuring feeling

We walk into the room, giggling and laughing at absolutely nothing. Then out of nowhere I hear,
Oh, my gosh in a deep, thick, country accent that carries for miles. I look over and I see a tall,
dark and handsome fellow, with a John Deere hat on the top and well worn boots on the bottom.
Jason, I thought to myself. I turned and had to laugh out loud, even before he says anything,
because he always makes me laugh.
As we goof around waiting for things to get started, Michael, the worship leader of the youth band,
starts playing and that is a sign for everyone to get to his or her seats. We start singing and I realize
that my mind is somewhere else. I stop and ask God to help me regain focus because I know I
need to concentrate on Him. I try to settle my mind, but it just keeps wandering. I take one more
deep breath, and as the last song is ending, I plead with God to be with me tonight and help me
focus on Him.
Our youth pastor, Lenny, gets up on the stage and I take one last deep breath and as I settle into
my chair, it happens. As Lenny is teaching, he says some of the most memorable words I have
ever heard. In his most passionate voice he describes a conversation he had with God. I was
talking to God one night, telling Him I wanted to do amazing things. Things that had never been
done before. And He told me that, in order to do that, I would have to

The Law Of Property Act 1925
The law in relation to co ownership interests in property has changed a vast amount in recent years.
This has resulted in both changes in the legislative framework surrounding co ownership; the
development of the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (TOLATA) , also due to
the increase in occurrence of co ownershipmany practical problems have been revealed which the
Law of PropertyAct 1925 simply did not clearly provide for. Additionally, changes within the
society and economic influences have triggered many problems on the path towards property
ownership. The Law of Property Act 1925 (LPA), established the original scheme of co ownership,
however it was incapable of dealing with this change in time.
In this scenario, a considerable amount depends on whether Emma owns a share in the house
or, in other words whether she has a proprietary interest in it. If Emma is able to establish that
she has this interest then she may be able entitled to a share within the property. When the
property was purchased it was done so in David s name. The purchase is by mortgage and by
cash deposit. David has paid the entire cash deposit, as he is the sole legal owner of the property
as well as this, the mortgage is made with him. Aforementioned, the title is registered in his name
alone and there is no express declaration of trust in writing in favour of Emma.

Du Pont Paper Capital Structure Case
B.A. 142 CASE 2
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
E. I. du Pont de Nemours is an American chemical company that has recently acquired the major oil
company of Conoco Inc. and is becoming one of the largest chemical manufacturers in the United
States. Its financial conservatism has pushed Du Pont to the forefront of the industry as its
profitability soared, providing it with the liquidity to readily finance its cash needs. But several
competitive conditions posed a challenge to its risk averse financial policy as the 1970 s was
characteristic of a declining level of industry demand and price, along with rising fuel prices and
an economic recession. These pressures now force Du Pont to source its financing through debt,
foregoing its risk averse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1980s, Du Pont entered and won a bidding contest for Conoco, doubling its size and
significantly increasing its orientation toward undifferentiated commodity products, but this move,
however, was responded with negativity by the industry analysts. The purchase of Conoco was
financed through issuance of common stock and a floating rated debt, propelling Du Pont s debt
ratio from 20% to 40%, downgrading its bond rating to AA, the first time in the company s history.
With declining oil prices hampering the the company s performance, and an economic recession
plaguing the chemical industry, its return on capital and earnings per share fell dramatically.
Du Pont s financial policy had always been based on maximization of financial flexibility. Taking
to consideration the riskiness of Du Pont s businesses, its competitive position and profitability
had declined in the last 20 years. Moreover, the firm is still forced to seek external financing
each year for the next five years (1983 1987) due to the continued high level of capital
expenditures which are considered non deferrable to redress the causes of poor performance. In
view of the importance and magnitude of the projected financing needs, the firm is concerned about
how the cost and availability of debt

Essentials Of Progression
The Essentials of Progression Modern society is affected by technology in various ways as it
dominates and prevails in our everyday lives. Technology has had a greater impact on humankind
progression than anything we ve seen in mankind s existence. It has had both positive and negative
effects on humanity. With new innovations emerging everyday, it is certain that technology
advancements will continue to effect our future generations drastically. Some people believe
technology impedes society s progression by causing sedentary or laziness, isolation, concentration
problems, and eliminates certain jobs that were once done by humans. These negative effects may
be true, but according to Kevin Kelly s Better than Human: Why Robots Will and Must Take...

negative effects from being created. We will never know what will affect us in the future, or which
jobs will be taken over by technological advancements, nor which jobs will be introduced to us until
that time comes. The future may be intimidating to some, but I believe the future holds incredible
developments and accomplishments that no human has ever dreamed

Coclear Impairment
In my experience I have realized that there is always a gap. As you make bigger efforts in one
aspect, another one falls back. Everywhere I have worked, I found two kinds of teachers: The
ones who always do the same and the ones who try to do a good job. In both cases, they use to say
how frustrated they are because the results are not what they expected. The issue is that they are not
aware of how educationhas changed and that we can not have the same expectations of all our
students. Age, capacities, attitude, family, social context, appereance, are factors that influence
directly the outcomes of a student in the classroom. However, these factors are managed as external
issues that are someone else s responsibility.
Currently, I work in a public school with an inclusion program for deaf or hearing impairment
students. When I started to teach in tenth grade, I received two students in opposite corners. Both
had a coclear implant, but one of them experienced his educational process of primary to ninth

How To Connect A Hot Tub Essay
What To Expect When Connecting A New Hot Tub To Electricity
If you re planning to buy a hot tub, one thing you ll have to do is hire an electrician to get the
electrical panel ready. While you might be able to pour the foundation for the tub and assemble it
once it s delivered, connecting it to electricity should be done by a licensed residential electrician.
Here is a quick look at the process of hooking your tub up to electricity.
Check Local Codes
Hiring an electrician isn t only for safety reasons, it s also so the work is done up to code. You ll
want to call your local codes office and find out if you need a permit and inspection for your
newly installed tub. You ll probably find out the work has to be completed by a licensed
electrician and done according to standard national and local codes. These codes regulate how
close the pool must be to the power supply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done by laying down a conduit first. This is a tube that holds the cords so they are
protected from water, insects, and other harm. The conduit can be buried underground or placed
in a trench in a concrete foundation. If you plan to bury the conduit, you want to check with your
local utility companies to make sure you won t dig in areas where pipes and wires are buried close
to your house. Once the conduit is where you want it, the electrician pulls the wires through it and
connects one end of the wires to the electrical panel and the other end to the hot tub.
The final step before filling your hot tub with water is to have it inspected. This may be a
necessary step required by a local codes inspector to make sure the work is done right and your
tub is safe. Even if your local codes office doesn t require an inspection, you want to make sure
the electrician performs an inspection of the work from start to finish. Then you can rest easy
knowing your hot tub is safe and ready for you to

The Expectations For A Nursing Home
Nursing homes are places where people go who either can no longer care for themselves or
never were really able to without special professional care. With this being said, the expectations
for nursing homes are set high because no one wants their loved one to be left alone in a place far
from home that isn t healthy for them. My visit to The Renaissance wasn t at all like I expected it
to be. The expectations for a nursing homeshould be clean, in a safe and quiet area, and also I
think it should have the some of the best nurses working for them. As I was walking outside
looking at the building before I walked in I can tell that everything is very well kept to maintain
a good appearance to the outsiders. Then I walked in to speak with the receptionist for the
visitors pass, the lobby looked very nice, the smell was amazing, and everything was very
organized and clean. There was only one flaw about the lobby; the receptionist was on the phone
the whole time I was trying to speak to her about the work there. Usually, there s an exception
when the lady behind the desk answers the phone for a customer but she obviously had to have
been speaking with a friend or family member because of the way she spoke to them. This was
extremely rude and inappropriate.
I received my visitor s pass and made my way to the other door to where everyone is. The first
thing the hits you when your open the door is the smell. This smell was very bad; it was a smell of
urine and bowel movements.

Jacques Louis David Essay
David was the virtual art dictator of France for a generation. Extending beyond painting, his
influence determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was
reflected in the development of moral philosophy. His art was a sudden and decisive break with
tradition, and from this break modern artis dated.
David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four
times, causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. His
pursuit of the antique, nurtured by his time in Rome, directed the classical revival in French art. He
borrowed classical forms and motifs, predominantly from sculpture, to illustrate a sense of virtue he

During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most
distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured
models, he allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such
as Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are
enormously vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible.
Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748.
In 1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed.
He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the
instructors chair, drawing for the duration of the class .
When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter
J. M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on
the ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired
work of the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. David quickly evolved his own individual
neoclassical style, drawing subject matter from ancient sources and basing form and gesture on
Roman sculpture. His famous Oath of the Horatii was consciously intended as a proclamation of the
new neoclassical style in which

The History Of Islam And Islam
The History of Islam
Islam is a religion that was founded in 622 C.E. Its origin is traced to the Arabian Peninsula, and
currently has an estimated 1.5 billion followers worldwide. The sacred texts that are associated
with Islam is the Qur an and Allah is the Deity they pay homage to. Muslims believe that there is
only one true God and several time per day, they stop everything to participate in prayer rituals. The
region, in which Islam was founded, was a melting pot of religious beliefs. There were small
concentrations within the region that practiced Judaism and Christianity, but the religions were
overshadowed by cults of the Tribal Gods that participate in barbaric practices. (A Brief History in

Pillar # 1
Pillar one is the Shahadah, which declares that Allah is the only. This confirms faith in one
heavenly truth. It also declares that God s messenger is Muhammad. This affirms obedience to God
through receipt of his message as shown to the people through Muhammad. This affirmation of
faith suggests admission of the follower into the all encompassing community of Muslims and is
mandatory in converting to Islam.
Pillar # 2
Pillar two consists of the five daily prayers that must take place, which shows the supporter s
obedience to God and serves as shared, tangible proof of the devotion to Islam. Prayers are carried
out right before sunrise, at midday, in midafternoon, right after dusk, and at nightfall, between an
hour following dusk and midnight. Prayers are to be directed towards Mecca and should be
performed in a state of ceremonial cleanliness, attained by either a bath or ceremonial cleansing.
Pillar # 3
Pillar three is the giving of alms. This is in remembrance of one s all inclusive social duties to
the public, to a representative of a local mosque, of the Islamic government or to a religious
officer. In other words, the giving of alms is about contributions given to the indigent. It is
beneficial to the poor and helps the contributor by moving him or her towards more devoutness
and obedience to Allah. The giving of alms is thought to be a form of reverence to God.

Notes on Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit...
There are a number of different modern social theories regarding the nature of society, social
change, human s place within society and the idea of how integration and alienation fit within a
modern society. These paradigms combine reflexively into a notion of history. Max Weber was a
German politician, scholar, economist, and sociologist. In fact, he founded the modern studies of
sociology, public administration, and organizational theory. He was born in 1864 and so was
writing and publishing after Marx, but still looking at capitalism, socialism, and the various dictates
of society as ways humans are shaped, actualized, and able to have upward mobility. He is most
famous for his works surrounding the sociology of religion and government, and how those two
institutions shaped, controlled, and contributed to humankind.
For Weber, the idea of rationalism rational thought based on societal efficiency and productivity,
runs through his works particularly The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. In this
seminal work, Weber argues that the idea of Protestantism contributes to history and economics in
that piety and the chance for a better life after death cause humans to strive for economic gain in
certain ways, whereas that is not always using work as an expression of self it is work, as Marx
might say, for the ends justifying the means, rather than the means justifying what work is being
done. Authority, then, rather than being solely economic, does have at its

Comparing Sweat And The Story Of An Hour
Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston (1926) and The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin (1894) at first
glance may seem like wildly dissimilar stories with absolutely nothing in common. The Story of
an Hour, for one thing, was written by an upper class white woman in 1894, while Sweat was
written by a not so prosperous black woman in 1926. The Story of an Houris about a woman named
Mrs. Mallard whose husband has not allowed her to have a lot of freedom because of a heart
condition. When she finds out that her husband has died in a train accident, her friends are worried
that, because of that condition, the news will kill her. However, she has a reaction (privately) that

Literature Review On Psychotropic Drugs
Psychotropic Drugs: Is Prozac Being Overprescribed? As the world becomes more
knowledgeable about mental health, psychotropic drugs have become popular in the treatment
of major depression. For example, primary care physicians prescribe psychotropic drugs to
patients who seek help for and complain about their mental issues. According to Smith (2012),
Writing a prescription to treat a mental health disorder is easy, but it may not always be the
safest or most effective route for patients (p.36). Prozac, a popular psychotropic drug, has been
known to cause many uncomfortable side effects while treating major depression. Psychotropic
drugs, while still practical, are not the only treatment for dealing with major depression, and there
will be patients that respond positively towards the drugs while other patients require treatment
such as cognitive behavioral therapy. While the physicians try to cure their patients of the
symptoms of depression with Prozac, major depression often requires additional therapy
alongside the prescribed pills. This literature review considers whether the increased use of
Prozac is appropriate for treating major depression by responding to the following questions:
1.What are the implications of major depression? 2.Is Prozac effective at treating major
depression? 3.Is Prozac safe? 4.Is Prozac the best solution? Because written prescriptions have
become easily accessible, patients often are not aware of less risky treatments that could be more

Besides What The Grim Wolf With Privy Paw Analysis
foul contagion spread connotates decay as he refers to the sheep who rot from the emptiness of
their stomachs (127). The rotting sheep also represent the metaphorical flock of members in the
Roman Catholic church, where rot inwardly refers to the rotting of their empty spiritual souls.
Milton extends this pastoral metaphor with the wolf, as a common devourer of sheep, in
Besides what the grim wolf with privy paw (128). The wolf operates as a symbol for the clergy
that preyed on its members through the theft of money and religious freedom. The privy, or
secret paw of the wolf in, Besides what the grim wolf with privy paw, alludes not only to wolves
as a common threat to sheep, which further demonstrates Wilson s ability to write about pastoral
life, but it also alludes to Henrietta Maria s practice of secret conversions in the Roman Catholic
church (Greenblatt et al. 1922). The idea of sheep with no control to stop the wolves who devour
daily, is a metaphor for the increasing power of the archbishop and the church of England, and the
diminishing power of the members who practice it (129). Milton s extended sheep metaphor
enforces the claims that bishops, reoccurringly untrained and out of tune with the holy spirit,
neglected their religious duties, and caused more harm to their congregations than good. The
speaker succeeds again at consistently illustrating the death of Lycidas through nature imagery in
the following metaphor: So sinks the day star in the

My experience from the day on the hill was a complete opposite of what I thought it would be.
When I first started this program, I wasn t interested in policy. I thought this class was going to

Divine Command And Natural Law Theory
Growing up in a Christian household I have always felt that my own ethical code was largely
shaped by the rules and laws that are stated in the bible. Although I don t agree with some
interpretations of these rules and laws, as I ve grown up I have developed my own code stemming
deeply from my religion. For this reason, I believe that divine command/natural law theory are the
closest related ethical systems to my own ethical code even though there are many flaws that come
with them.
Divine command is an ethical system that derives heavily from a religious background. This
system believes that since God is the creator and ruler of all, he is the one who decides the
ethical and moral principles. It can be simply put as morally right means commanded by God and
morally wrong means forbidden by God (Rachel, 2002). Because of this, moral correctness can
only be found through religion. Since many of the rules and laws that come from divine command
are so adamantly set into place, there are many flaws that can come from them.
One major flaw that develops from divine command is one of reason. In the classical sense of
divine command all laws come straight from God. With these laws there are no questions asked to
if they are truly right or wrong. With this said there are many different situations that can come to
mind. One example can be in the form of a question. What would happen if God commanded that
murder was considered morally right? With reasoning skills, we can see

Choosing A Smart Property Purchase
Choosing where to purchase properties is an important decision. You might be buying your first
home or a home to rent out as an investment property. The fact is, everyone has different needs.
Affordability, accessibility to public transport, and proximity to schools can all have a big impact
on the value of a potential investment property. If you re looking for your dream home, the criteria
can be even more personal.
Knowing how to make a smart property purchase decision can seem overwhelming, so it s
important to understand the basics.
What is your personal situation?
Identifying the factors that are important to you is a good place to start. Ask yourself what you
need the property to achieve for you. Then, see if the property ticks all those important boxes.
Knowing whether you need an investment that is cash flow positive, or if you can sustain an
investment property that might build some long term capital gain, is a good basis for your decision
making.
If your plan is to renovate for capital gain, then that off the plan property might not be the right
investment for you. Also, before you think about buying in a regional location, look at the
industries that are integral to the region and consider how secure those industries are. There are no
guarantees in life and if your personal finances can t withstand a downturn, then that location may
not be the best choice for you. How much you can actually afford to borrow is another important
factor. Talk to a trusted mortgage

going to address the major cultural changes from the 1960 s to the 1980 s and whether or not the
suburbanization of this villagecommunity was good or bad.
Arembepe in the 1960 s consisted of only 159 households (730 people), which made up the
small village community. Malnutrition, poor public health, and high infant mortality struck the
village during this time. Traveling to and from Arembepe proved difficult because it lacked
paved roads. Hardly any people ever visited the village, which is why Kottak often referred to it
as being isolated from the rest of the world. Having no electricity in the village also proved a real
struggle for communication to the outside world. 74% of men in Arembepe worked as fishermen
and 11% worked in business (Kottak 50). In order to make a good living, it was very common for
men to have more than one job. Women would cook, clean, make items for fishing, and help run
stores. Overall, Arembepe in the 1960 s was not a stratified society, but that was soon going to
change.
All Arembepeiros were baptized as Catholics, so prior to the 1980 s, Arembepe was mostly ritual
free.

Chinese Philosophies And Its Virtue Essay
Cultivate it in oneself and its Virtue will be genuine... Cultivate it in one s village and its Virtue
will be long lasting. Cultivate it in your state and its Virtue will be abundant (The Daodejing, 57.
4 7). The Daodejing is the book, composed of many philosopher s views and philosophy through
poetry, for the belief of Daoism or Taoism. Like many other of Chinese philosophies, Daoism,
teaches not only the balance and unity in oneself, but unity and balance with the state as well.
Philosophy unified the Chinese statehoods and balanced the people within the states. Though the
states were often at war and dynasties often triumphed over one another, China was still unified
under the Mandate of Heaven. Within the Mandate of Heaven, China was unified under one ruler
that followed the way of heaven and receives blessings from the gods. If a ruler no longer went
by the way of the heavens, then they would be overthrown and replaced by one that now received
the blessings of the gods. As well as philosophy, agriculture of ricealso unified people, villages, and
the states. Rice farming required villages to work together and form a collective thought process,
while other farming focused more on individualism. This brought villages together physically
through agriculture practices while their philosophies united many as a whole throughout the states
bringing stability and contentment throughout history. Therefore this text will explore how rice

Who Is Dionysus In The Bacchae
Euripides uses the god Dionysus in The Bacchae in order to emphasize that humans need to
embrace irrational behavior in their day to day lives. In Thebes, Dionysus finds a structured and
ordered society, with their goal simply being to work as hard as possible, while Dionysus aims to
simply live to have fun and make merry. Due to the disrespect given to him by the Thebans as a
result of their differences, Dionysusaims to take revenge and force the people to worship him by
destroying their society and recreating it in his image. Dionysus and Theban society are complete
opposites. Dionysus is considered to be the godof wine and merriment. He and his followers live
life to the fullest, epitomizing the idea of carpe diem and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite Dionysus repeatedly trying to convince King Pentheus to see logic, the constant rebuffing
at every turn eventually leads to him giving up reconciliation and condemning the king to death.
As soon as King Pentheus says bring me my arms, attendants! and stop talking, you!, there is no
more talking to be done, and one can see that at this point that the always rational King Pentheus
has repressed the irrational, represented by Dionysus, since he is quite literally calling for his
weapons to kill Dionysus and his followers. (Euripides 809). Since King Pentheus has rejected
what Dionysus has had to say and called for his armor, Dionysus is left with no choice but to
become vengeful and consequently starts to lead King Pentheus to his doom. The critic AJ
Podlecki refers to this when he says Dionysus had told Pentheus, but he did not heed the warning,
for his final assault on the Bacchae is seen as a mad expedition which he is bound to fail (Podlecki
151). Dionysus had warned Pentheus not to do anything rash, because there was no chance that he
could defeat a god in battle. However, due to the fact that Pentheus has made the decision to raise
his sword against the Bacchante, he has exhausted the patience of Dionysus and has therefore set
himself up for his

Lord Of The Flies Literary Analysis
The Beast Within The Lord of the Flies portrays the years of adolescence in a way not commonly
perceived. In the novel, William Golding depicts childhood as times of tribulation and terror when
the children are put in certain adult like situations. Without mature role models to look up to,
children turn to other children for leadership. Additionally, when given the chance children would
rather play around than do manual labor. Lastly, children stray to savagery without rules or social
boundaries. Therefore, Goulding effectively portrayed the attitudes of adolescents which shaped the
meaning of the book as a whole. When children are without adultauthority, they look for an adult
like person for leadership. In the beginning of the book, when the boys realize they are all alone,
they to Ralph for leadership. A quote to represent this is, But there was a stillness about Ralph as
he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet
most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on
the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 15). This
quote shows how the boys are drawn to Ralph because of his physical characteristics and because
he had set a rule, which was to give attention to the person holding the conch. As a result of there
being no adults on the island, the boys are be attracted to Ralph as their leader. However, towards

Gender Deborah Tannen
Deborah Tannen is an American academic and professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in

conversational interactions, including how these interactions are affected by gender and cultural
differences. In her essay Tannen uses genderto reveal the differences between maleand female

Tannen starts her argument by explaining differences in conversational styles between genders.
This provides the audience an idea about what topic she is going to debate. However, after stating
her thesis and backing it with references, she detracts from her main argument. Firstly, she includes
the insights of her colleagues. These are meant to provide leverage to her argument yet they distract
the audience from the main idea and Tannen does not incorporate the information into her own
ideas thus these accounts fail to validate her theory. Finally, she jumps on to her class experiment,
going into unnecessary details as it covers a quarter of her article. Even though the experiment
yields results which Tannen finds successful, the results hardly relate to her main idea rather they
provide new conclusions which again cause the audience to wonder about the direction the article is
headed. Again Tannen fails to integrate the findings with her thesis and generally assumes every
difference in conversational style is

Symbolism In St George And The Dragon
Known from legend, St. George is the knight who is told to have slain a dragon in Libya to save a
young woman, generally known as holding the title of princess, as expressed in Raphael s painting
St. George and the Dragon. In this oil painting, the dragon is seemingly the embodiment of evil in
the town while St. George is the knight that risks his life to slay and rid of the evil within the town
in a somewhat chivalrous manner. In St. George and the Dragon, Raphael expresses Christianity
combined with chivalry in his painting through the use of small details, symbolic representations,
contrast, human figures, and the depiction of these human figures and or characters. Raphael could
have done this due to the rise of Christianity in the Renaissanceera and chivalry in art at the time.
The expression of Christianity can be represented through symbolism, color, and the details of
Raphael s painting. The dragon can be seen as symbolic of the Devil in Christianity and in turn St.
George slaying the dragon can be represented as the destruction of the Devil and all evil within
that setting. The color of the dragon is dark and is viciously drawn which contrasts with the white
and seemingly lightness of St. George s horse that brings out the good and evil within the painting.
This corresponds with Christianity as the Devil is normally depicted as dark and cruel compared to
the white that represents purity of those who are righteous. Continuing on with the darkness of the
dragon, in

Improving Emergency Department Throughput Time
Hospitals are experiencing patient congested emergency departments. At Baptist Memorial
Hospital, the increase in patient volume and limited capacity contributes to long length of stays and
patients leaving without being seen. As a result of overcrowded emergency rooms, patient length of
stay becomes more important. Throughput times in the emergency department (ED) play a
substantial role in patient and staff satisfaction. Length of stay in the ED is directly related to
patient volume, patient acuity, lab turnaround times, and time to treatment, which is all connected
to patient satisfaction. Long wait time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Efficiency or streamlined processes are necessary to see and treat the number of patients presenting.
A specific problem that contributes to increased length of stay and delayed diagnosis is the timely
result of urinalysis. The root cause of delayed urinalysis results is attributed to failure to collect,
failure to transport, and failure to order. On a regular basis, the physicians wait on urinalysis
reports when all other ordered lab has resulted. In exploring the possible causes of delayed results,
it was discovered that when a urinalysis was ordered, many times the patient could not void.
Therefore, the urine was not collected and soon forgotten by the nurse. Additionally, urines
collected were not transported to the lab. The patient was provided with the specimen cup and
collected the urine, but it was left sitting at the bedside even though the lab technician might have
been in the room. Last, a problem exists with collecting urines but failing to order the test. Nurses
implement protocols but fail to order the test in the system.
In a simulation study, significant improvement in ED efficiency was shown with decreasing lab
turnaround time (Storrow, et al., 2008). As stated in the article, the development of simulation
models has been driven by nationwide increases in ED patient census and acuity, as well as ED
closures and hospital overcrowding (Storrow, et al., 2008, p. 1131). This study highlighted

The Role Of The Magi In The Bible
In the Bible, Matthew tells the story about magi from the east who followed a star to look for the
baby, who is the one has been born the king of Jews. Many people traditionally think there are
three magi in the Bible, because in Matthew s account there are three gifts given which were gold,
incense, and myrrh. However, the Bibledoes not say there were only three wise men. They could
have been more. So we do not know who are the people exactly because the Bible never
mentioned it. The magi is a counselor to a king. Tradition says that there were three magi and their
names were Gaspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, but since the Bible does not say, we have no way of

Herod, so, in defiance of the king, they left Judea by another route. I have learned a lot from the
magi. The magi were men who read and believe God s word, sought Jesus, recognized the worth
of Christ, humbled themselves to worship Jesus, and obeyed God rather than man. They are the
truly wise men ( What does the Bible say about the three wise men (Magi)? ). Matthew 2:2

RenГ© Descartes Meditations Essay
RenГ© Descartes Meditations
RenГ© Descartes argument that he does not know his piece of wax through his senses is rather
straightforward. First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture,
temperature and the like. However, these purported properties of the wax are not constant; if the
wax is brought close to a flame, its color, sound, texture and all the rest will change. Nevertheless,
Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first
away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its
appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Because the
wax is still the same wax even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes
indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations
because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The
imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.)
Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions
of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability.
Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination
we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination.
The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended,
flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic,
supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of
the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations,
Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking
thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing.
These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm,
deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine.

Comparing Mountain Lion and Badger Essay
Comparing Mountain Lion and Badger
These are two poems that were written at the beginning and end of the nineteenth century. The
views on animal hunting and animal cruelty are very different today. Animals such as badgers were
hunted for sport; it was considered to be entertaining to track a badger using dogs and capture and
torture it until death. Animas such as the Mexican mountain lion were hunted in Mexico for a
profit, their fur was a highly sought after fashion item and was sold at very high prices.
Both the poems describe animals that are put through a chase before they are killed. The badger is
portrayed as aggressive and fierce yet he is demure, the first two characteristics are masculine but

Repetition is also used, she will never this brings home the fact that the mountain lion is dead and

beginning the repetition of, gun shows that the poet s party become un nerved and intimidated.
They are wary, as animals would be in the same situation. The alliteration of f in face , frost ,
fashioned , all add to the perfection of this creature and how amazed the poet is. As the f sound is
quite soft.
In Badger the poet sets the scene very differently to that in Mountain
Lion. Badger has a very busy and fast moving situation the beating rhythm of the poem reflects
this, it also shows the pounding beat of the badgers heart as it is running for its life. There is
tension as the dogs and men enter on the scene.
During the poem the badger varies its reaction as though it is working to a plan, like it is trying
to fool the men, runs along and bites , and, The badger grins. The strong rhyming couplets of
Badger also give an exited, noisy and chaotic atmosphere. There are ten syllables to each line and
fourteen lines in each of the two stanzas. There is also a lack of commas and pauses all the way
through until the end when the badger finally dies, and crackles, groans, and dies. The use of
commas shows the slow death of the animal as all its energy is

Madison is a landmark Supreme Court case. Marbury v. Madison is one of the most influential and
groundbreaking legal proceeding in the history of the United States. The Marbury v. Madison case
was the first of its kind. Prior to Marbury vs. Madison, it was unclear whether the U.S. Supreme
Court had the power to determine the constitutionality of laws or what should happen when the
Constitution and a law were in conflict. Consequently the theory of every such government must be
that an act of the Legislature repugnant to the Constitution is void. With these words written by
Chief Justice Marshall, this case is significant because for the first time, the Supreme Court declared
an act of Congress unconstitutional because it was contrary to the Constitution. This decision was
the foundation for the Supreme Court s power of judicial review, the power by which the Court
could determine the constitutionality of laws passed by Congress. Marshall stated in the majority
opinion Court must either decide that case conformably to the law, disregarding the Constitution, or
conformably to the Constitution, disregarding the law, the Court must determine which of these

Episodic Memory
As teachers, we are here to educate our students in our areas, but how do we know when students
actually understand and learn the information being taught? Marilee Sprenger (1998) said memory
is the only way to verify learning . After researching the parts of the brain and learning how it
processes information, her statement is true. Memoryis the process by which we retain the
knowledge and skills for the future (Sousa, 2011). According to Sprenger (1998), there a five
separate memory lanes: semantic, episodic, procedural, automatic, and emotional. Semantic
memory deals with words and is the most difficult because you must process it repeatedly for long
term effects. Episodic memory is location driven. The procedural memory is your how to memory.

Final memory is emotional memory, which connects back to the amygdala where all your
emotions lay. Effective teaching uses strategies to help students recognize patterns and then make
the required connections to process the new working memories so they can travel into the brain s
long term storage areas (Willis, 2007). The first strategy I will do in my classroom is to provide
down time in between learning episodes. I teach in block scheduling and I ve come to realize that
students remember best what comes first, then when comes last, but tend to forget everything in the
middle. If I break my block time into four sections, since high school students can handle about 20
minutes in working memory, I give students time to process the information being taught. The
down time would be a brain break. During the brain breaks students could be

Compare And Contrast The Hippie Movement In The 60 s And...
The Hippie Movement in the 60 s and 70 s involved many social concerns and beliefs. The hippies
thoughts on life was that the world should be a happy place, people from all around, every cultural
everyone should be happy. They didn t want people to care about what others thought about them IF
IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT was often their attitudes towards things not caring about the consequences
of their actions.
Hippies weren t happy with what their parents wanted them to be like but little did their parents
know they had built the greatest booming economy the world had ever seen during the 60 s and 70

violence so they promoted a gentle ideology that focused on peace, love and personal freedom.
Most hippies lived in comminutes with a lot of other hippies. Some people described the 1960 s
hippies movement as a religious movement.
Hippies created their own counter cultural founded drug, which they said embraced their sexual
revolution. Drugs such as marijuana and LSD were really used into their cultural as a state of
consciousness. They avoided harder drugs because they considered them more harmful or addictive.
Hippie s style of dress that they believed was part of the
statement of who you were. They dressed in bright colors, ragged clothes, tie dyed t shirts,
beads, sandals, or even went barefoot. They were jewelry. Most of their clothes were usually
purchased at flea markets or second hand shops. The peace symbol became the hippie official s

Anthropology and Its Branches
Anthropology is the study of human beings, in particular the study of their physical character,
evolutionary history, racial classification, historical and present day geographic distribution, group
relationships, and cultural history. Anthropology can be characterized as the naturalistic description
and interpretation of the diverse peoples of the world.
Modern day anthropology consists of two major divisions: cultural anthropology, which deals with
the study of human culture in all its aspects; and physical anthropology, which is the study of
human physical character, in both the past and present.
Anthropology emerged as an independent science in the late 18th century, it developed two
divisions: physical anthropology, which focuses on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Biological Anthropology
Biological anthropology, also known as physical anthropology, deals with tracing the biological
origins, evolutionary changes, and the genetic diversity of the human species. In the process,
biological anthropologists study primate behavior, and anatomical variations between primates and
human beings in order to understand physical changes that have taken place in humans during their
evolutionary journey from apes. They may also take up genetic analysis and anthropometric studies
to find reasons behind the physical differences between people of various groups.
Besides these major branches, anthropology also has other divisions like forensic anthropology,
medical anthropology, and ecological anthropology. Although each branch is a specialized field of
study, they are inter related. This gives anthropologists an edge over researchers from other fields in
addressing human problems, as they study human existence not in isolation but in totality.
Evolution Of Man What is it?
The modern theory concerning the evolution of man proposes that humans and apes derive from an
apelike ancestor that lived on earth a few million years ago. The theory states that man,

The Disappearance Of Childhood Analysis
In the book, The Disappearance of Childhood, Postman s overall claim is that childhood is
disappearing because children are able to get access to information about adult secrets.
I agree with Postman s main argument; however, I disagree with some of his claims that he used to
support the main argument.
In chapter 1, Postman claimed that children who are participating in games such as Little League
baseball and Pee Wee football are playing because they are pursuing reputation, not because they
wanted to do something fun, or because they were pursuing pleasure. I disagree with Postman s
claim since I believe in the exact opposite. I believe that for a child to play sports in their own time,
they must first enjoy that sport. If a child doesn t like playing ... Show more content on

This is true for all sports. For an example, I m not an athletic person, and I dislike all sports.
Since I don t find pleasure in playing sports, I don t want to do anything related to it, which
includes joining any sport organizations. I had a classmate who loved baseball. He would have
found great pleasure in joining Little League baseball because he loved the sport. I believe that the
reputation the child gets from playing the sport is just something that is included.
Postman claims that with adultified child , children who think and act similar to adults, and
childfied adult , where adults think and act similar to children, children s and adults beliefs and
characteristics are merging into one. This represents the disappearance of the generation gap, where
everyone is in the same generation. In the beginning, I disagreed with his claim. I thought that the
generation gap is still there. Children are growing up with technology. In this generation, a child as

My Personal Study Habits
Introduction This paper will be an examination of my personal study habits as a college freshman,
and an effort to discover techniques to improve my ability to learn and remember the information I
need to successfully graduate from college.
I have learned most of my study habits by watching my very successful daughter, a high school
junior with a rigorous course load making high honors, and attempting to mimic her. She has a very
strong work ethic; generally, once she arrives home she takes a short break to change clothes and
pet a cat, and then dives in to her homework. She knows when to give herself a breather to check
her social media accounts, and she is very clear that since she always studies hard and does her
best, she never fails, even if she gets a D or F on a test or quiz. I quite admire that. And her. We
have homework time together most nights.
Current Status I am in my second semester of college now, and thus far I have been able to
attend to my homework and studying to the degree that I have received near perfect marks on
everything I have turned in. I am quite proud of this, and at the same time concerned that as the
course work becomes more difficult I will both be unable to keep up with the amount of effort
required and also be unable to synthesize the information well enough to continue to receive those
high grades. To give myself the best possible chance at success, I have a study space adjacent to my
child at the kitchen table, with adequate lighting and

Nigeria Economic Outlook
Introduction
This document will discuss economic concerns of Nigeria. Specially addressed will be the
following: Nigeria s economic outlook, gross domestic product, inflation, and deprecation of the
naira. This paper will conclude with a summary of this discussion.
Nigeria Economic Outlook
Nigeria s parliament approved the 2017 budget in May. The economy falling from low oil prices,
which have led to recession, a plummeting naira and a spike in inflation, the budget aims to
jumpstart growth by ramping up capital spending on roads, rail, ports and power. The significant
fiscal shortfall is set to be plugged by a mixture of loans and bonds, although with foreign investors
skittish, the government may have to turn to more domestic financing, ... Show more content on

Clearly a lot needs to be done to make tax compliance less onerous for the average taxpayer.
Inflation
Nigeria s consumer prices increased 17.24 percent year on year in April of 2017, easing slightly
from a 17.26 percent rise in the prior month. The inflation rate fell for the third straight month to
the lowest in nine months, led by a slowdown in prices of housing and utilities and transport
(Wilson, David, Inyiama, Beatrice, 2014). annual core inflation rate was 14.75 percent, the
lowest since April last year. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 1.60 percent.
Inflation Rate in Nigeria averaged 12.38 percent from 1996 until 2017, reaching an all time high
of 47.56 percent in January of 1996 and a record low of 2.49 percent in January of 2000.
Compared to April of 2016, prices went up at a slower pace for housing and utilities (16.05
percent vs 18.85 percent) and transport (14.91 percent vs 15.43 percent). Meanwhile, cost rose
faster for food (19.30 percent vs 18.44 percent), including bread ,cereals, meat, fish, potatoes, yams
and other tubes, coffee, tea and cocoa, milk cheese, eggs, oils and fats. Yet, food inflation hit the
highest since February of 2009. Also, prices advanced for clothing and footwear (17.10 percent vs
16.65 percent), furniture and household equipment (12.84 percent vs 12.47 percent), health (10.66

Essay On Antoni Gaudi
Antoni GaudГ, a Catalan architect has become internationally recognized as one of the most
prodigious experts in architecture, as well as the one of the top exponents of modernism.
His exceptional ground breaking genius made him the inventor of a unique and personal
architectural language that defies classification. The work of GaudГ is remarkable for its range of
forms, textures, polychromy and for the free, expressive way in which these elements of his art
seem to be composed. The complex geometries of a GaudГ building so coincide with its
architectural structure that the whole, including its surface, gives the appearance of being a natural
object in complete conformity with nature s laws. Such a sense of total unity also informed the life

In 2010, the uncompleted church was consecrated as a basilica by Pope Benedict XVI.
The magnificence of Antoni GaudГ s architecture coincided, as the result of a personal decision by
the architect, with a progressive withdrawal by the man himself. GaudГ, who in his youth had
frequented theatres, concerts and tertulias ( social gatherings), went from being a young dandy with
gourmet tastes to neglecting his personal appearance, eating frugally, and distancing himself from
social life, while simultaneously devoting himself even more fervently to a mystical and religious
sentiment.
GaudГ died on the 10th of June, 1926, after being knocked down by a tram while making his way,
as he did every evening to the Sagrada FamГlia from the Church of Sant Felip Neri. After the
struck, he lost consciousness, and nobody suspected that this disheveled 74 old man who was not
carrying any identity documents, was the famous architect. He was taken to the Santa Cruz
Hospital, where he was later recognized by the priest of the Sagrada FamГlia. Two days later,
GaudГ was buried in that vary church, following a funeral attended by throngs of people; most of
the citizens of Barcelona came out to bid a final farewell to the most universal architect that the
city had ever

  • 2. Trust In Speckled Band And A Retrieved Reformation Overall Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle, and A Retrieved Reformation by O. Henry, have many themes in common. I could ve chosen so many other ones besides this theme. I decided to chose the theme of trust. Trust, as in whether you should trust someone or not. Two of the characters in the stories have been around people that they have trusted when maybe they shouldn t have. One of the characters was the person that people shouldn t put their full trust in. Trust is a hard thing, something that should be learned and earned. Some people don t deserve to be trusted, but get trusted anyways. Throughout all three stories the characters learned a lesson about trust, whether to not trust or to only trust... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the three stories the characters learned that too. Helen learned to take in all the behaviors of the people around her and then evaluate whether they are trustworthy or not. Even though Helen knew Doctor Roylott basically her whole life, doesn t mean that he had a different view of her. Johnny Valentine misused the people around him, people that he called family, in Elmore. He never had the intention of lying to them, or at least never meant for them to find out that he was. Charlie realized that because of the way that his brain works, people will never treat him like they would treat a normal processing human being. His so called friends used him for their enjoyment and embarrassed him over and over again. Charlie was finally done with the people that he used to trust and call his friends and moved away because he wanted a fresh start with people that he could trust. Flowers for Algernon , Speckled Band , and A Retrieved Reformation had many lessons and themes to be learned, I thought that trust was the most important lesson because trust is something that everybody needs to learn and ... • 3. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay Personal Narrative Living for God As I was driving into the church parking lot I had to take a deep breath. After leaving another frustrating day at school and then going to work right afterwards, I needed to calm myself down. I looked in the rear view mirror one more time to make sure I looked halfway presentable. I fixed my wind blown hair by pulling it back in a high ponytail and put on some Burt s Bees lip balm before exiting the car. I grabbed my Bible and notebook and locked the doors. As I walked towards the youth building a wave of comfort washed over me. I love the feeling I get every time I step into the youth room at my church. It s a reassuring feeling that, no matter what I ve been through during the day, everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We walk into the room, giggling and laughing at absolutely nothing. Then out of nowhere I hear, Oh, my gosh in a deep, thick, country accent that carries for miles. I look over and I see a tall, dark and handsome fellow, with a John Deere hat on the top and well worn boots on the bottom. Jason, I thought to myself. I turned and had to laugh out loud, even before he says anything, because he always makes me laugh. As we goof around waiting for things to get started, Michael, the worship leader of the youth band, starts playing and that is a sign for everyone to get to his or her seats. We start singing and I realize that my mind is somewhere else. I stop and ask God to help me regain focus because I know I need to concentrate on Him. I try to settle my mind, but it just keeps wandering. I take one more deep breath, and as the last song is ending, I plead with God to be with me tonight and help me focus on Him. Our youth pastor, Lenny, gets up on the stage and I take one last deep breath and as I settle into my chair, it happens. As Lenny is teaching, he says some of the most memorable words I have ever heard. In his most passionate voice he describes a conversation he had with God. I was talking to God one night, telling Him I wanted to do amazing things. Things that had never been done before. And He told me that, in order to do that, I would have to ... • 4. The Law Of Property Act 1925 The law in relation to co ownership interests in property has changed a vast amount in recent years. This has resulted in both changes in the legislative framework surrounding co ownership; the development of the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (TOLATA) , also due to the increase in occurrence of co ownershipmany practical problems have been revealed which the Law of PropertyAct 1925 simply did not clearly provide for. Additionally, changes within the society and economic influences have triggered many problems on the path towards property ownership. The Law of Property Act 1925 (LPA), established the original scheme of co ownership, however it was incapable of dealing with this change in time. In this scenario, a considerable amount depends on whether Emma owns a share in the house or, in other words whether she has a proprietary interest in it. If Emma is able to establish that she has this interest then she may be able entitled to a share within the property. When the property was purchased it was done so in David s name. The purchase is by mortgage and by cash deposit. David has paid the entire cash deposit, as he is the sole legal owner of the property as well as this, the mortgage is made with him. Aforementioned, the title is registered in his name alone and there is no express declaration of trust in writing in favour of Emma. I. du Pont de Nemours is an American chemical company that has recently acquired the major oil company of Conoco Inc. and is becoming one of the largest chemical manufacturers in the United States. Its financial conservatism has pushed Du Pont to the forefront of the industry as its profitability soared, providing it with the liquidity to readily finance its cash needs. But several competitive conditions posed a challenge to its risk averse financial policy as the 1970 s was characteristic of a declining level of industry demand and price, along with rising fuel prices and an economic recession. These pressures now force Du Pont to source its financing through debt, foregoing its risk averse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the 1980s, Du Pont entered and won a bidding contest for Conoco, doubling its size and significantly increasing its orientation toward undifferentiated commodity products, but this move, however, was responded with negativity by the industry analysts. The purchase of Conoco was financed through issuance of common stock and a floating rated debt, propelling Du Pont s debt ratio from 20% to 40%, downgrading its bond rating to AA, the first time in the company s history. With declining oil prices hampering the the company s performance, and an economic recession plaguing the chemical industry, its return on capital and earnings per share fell dramatically. Du Pont s financial policy had always been based on maximization of financial flexibility. Taking to consideration the riskiness of Du Pont s businesses, its competitive position and profitability had declined in the last 20 years. Moreover, the firm is still forced to seek external financing each year for the next five years (1983 1987) due to the continued high level of capital expenditures which are considered non deferrable to redress the causes of poor performance. • 7. Coclear Impairment In my experience I have realized that there is always a gap. As you make bigger efforts in one aspect, another one falls back. Everywhere I have worked, I found two kinds of teachers: The ones who always do the same and the ones who try to do a good job. In both cases, they use to say how frustrated they are because the results are not what they expected. The issue is that they are not aware of how educationhas changed and that we can not have the same expectations of all our students. Age, capacities, attitude, family, social context, appereance, are factors that influence directly the outcomes of a student in the classroom. However, these factors are managed as external issues that are someone else s responsibility. Currently, I work in a public school with an inclusion program for deaf or hearing impairment students. Once the conduit is where you want it, the electrician pulls the wires through it and connects one end of the wires to the electrical panel and the other end to the hot tub. The final step before filling your hot tub with water is to have it inspected. This may be a necessary step required by a local codes inspector to make sure the work is done right and your tub is safe. With this being said, the expectations for nursing homes are set high because no one wants their loved one to be left alone in a place far from home that isn t healthy for them. My visit to The Renaissance wasn t at all like I expected it to be. The expectations for a nursing homeshould be clean, in a safe and quiet area, and also I think it should have the some of the best nurses working for them. As I was walking outside looking at the building before I walked in I can tell that everything is very well kept to maintain a good appearance to the outsiders. Then I walked in to speak with the receptionist for the visitors pass, the lobby looked very nice, the smell was amazing, and everything was very organized and clean. There was only one flaw about the lobby; the receptionist was on the phone the whole time I was trying to speak to her about the work there. Usually, there s an exception when the lady behind the desk answers the phone for a customer but she obviously had to have been speaking with a friend or family member because of the way she spoke to them. • 10. Jacques Louis David Essay David was the virtual art dictator of France for a generation. Extending beyond painting, his influence determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was reflected in the development of moral philosophy. His art was a sudden and decisive break with tradition, and from this break modern artis dated. David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four times, causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured models, he allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such as Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are enormously vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible. Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748. In 1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed. He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the instructors chair, drawing for the duration of the class . When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter J. M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on the ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired work of the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. • 14. Notes on Max Weber s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit... There are a number of different modern social theories regarding the nature of society, social change, human s place within society and the idea of how integration and alienation fit within a modern society. These paradigms combine reflexively into a notion of history. Max Weber was a German politician, scholar, economist, and sociologist. In fact, he founded the modern studies of sociology, public administration, and organizational theory. He was born in 1864 and so was writing and publishing after Marx, but still looking at capitalism, socialism, and the various dictates of society as ways humans are shaped, actualized, and able to have upward mobility. He is most famous for his works surrounding the sociology of religion and government, and how those two institutions shaped, controlled, and contributed to humankind. For Weber, the idea of rationalism rational thought based on societal efficiency and productivity, runs through his works particularly The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. In this seminal work, Weber argues that the idea of Protestantism contributes to history and economics in that piety and the chance for a better life after death cause humans to strive for economic gain in certain ways, whereas that is not always using work as an expression of self it is work, as Marx might say, for the ends justifying the means, rather than the means justifying what work is being done. Comparing Sweat And The Story Of An Hour Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston (1926) and The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin (1894) at first glance may seem like wildly dissimilar stories with absolutely nothing in common. The Story of an Hour, for one thing, was written by an upper class white woman in 1894, while Sweat was written by a not so prosperous black woman in 1926. The Story of an Houris about a woman named Mrs. Mallard whose husband has not allowed her to have a lot of freedom because of a heart condition. When she finds out that her husband has died in a train accident, her friends are worried that, because of that condition, the news will kill her. • 16. Literature Review On Psychotropic Drugs Psychotropic Drugs: Is Prozac Being Overprescribed? As the world becomes more knowledgeable about mental health, psychotropic drugs have become popular in the treatment of major depression. For example, primary care physicians prescribe psychotropic drugs to patients who seek help for and complain about their mental issues. According to Smith (2012), Writing a prescription to treat a mental health disorder is easy, but it may not always be the safest or most effective route for patients (p.36). Prozac, a popular psychotropic drug, has been known to cause many uncomfortable side effects while treating major depression. Psychotropic drugs, while still practical, are not the only treatment for dealing with major depression, and there will be patients that respond positively towards the drugs while other patients require treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy. While the physicians try to cure their patients of the symptoms of depression with Prozac, major depression often requires additional therapy alongside the prescribed pills. This literature review considers whether the increased use of Prozac is appropriate for treating major depression by responding to the following questions: 1.What are the implications of major depression? 2.Is Prozac effective at treating major depression? 3.Is Prozac safe? 4.Is Prozac the best solution? The rotting sheep also represent the metaphorical flock of members in the Roman Catholic church, where rot inwardly refers to the rotting of their empty spiritual souls. Milton extends this pastoral metaphor with the wolf, as a common devourer of sheep, in Besides what the grim wolf with privy paw (128). The wolf operates as a symbol for the clergy that preyed on its members through the theft of money and religious freedom. The privy, or secret paw of the wolf in, Besides what the grim wolf with privy paw, alludes not only to wolves as a common threat to sheep, which further demonstrates Wilson s ability to write about pastoral life, but it also alludes to Henrietta Maria s practice of secret conversions in the Roman Catholic church (Greenblatt et al. 1922). The idea of sheep with no control to stop the wolves who devour daily, is a metaphor for the increasing power of the archbishop and the church of England, and the diminishing power of the members who practice it (129). Milton s extended sheep metaphor enforces the claims that bishops, reoccurringly untrained and out of tune with the holy spirit, neglected their religious duties, and caused more harm to their congregations than good. The speaker succeeds again at consistently illustrating the death of Lycidas through nature imagery in the following metaphor: So sinks the day star in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Divine Command And Natural Law Theory Growing up in a Christian household I have always felt that my own ethical code was largely shaped by the rules and laws that are stated in the bible. Although I don t agree with some interpretations of these rules and laws, as I ve grown up I have developed my own code stemming deeply from my religion. For this reason, I believe that divine command/natural law theory are the closest related ethical systems to my own ethical code even though there are many flaws that come with them. Divine command is an ethical system that derives heavily from a religious background. This system believes that since God is the creator and ruler of all, he is the one who decides the ethical and moral principles. It can be simply put as morally right means commanded by God and morally wrong means forbidden by God (Rachel, 2002). Because of this, moral correctness can only be found through religion. Since many of the rules and laws that come from divine command are so adamantly set into place, there are many flaws that can come from them. One major flaw that develops from divine command is one of reason. In the classical sense of divine command all laws come straight from God. With these laws there are no questions asked to if they are truly right or wrong. With this said there are many different situations that can come to mind. One example can be in the form of a question. What would happen if God commanded that murder was considered morally right? With reasoning skills, we can see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Choosing A Smart Property Purchase Choosing where to purchase properties is an important decision. You might be buying your first home or a home to rent out as an investment property. The fact is, everyone has different needs. Affordability, accessibility to public transport, and proximity to schools can all have a big impact on the value of a potential investment property. If you re looking for your dream home, the criteria can be even more personal. Knowing how to make a smart property purchase decision can seem overwhelming, so it s important to understand the basics. What is your personal situation? Identifying the factors that are important to you is a good place to start. Ask yourself what you need the property to achieve for you. Then, see if the property ticks all those important boxes. Knowing whether you need an investment that is cash flow positive, or if you can sustain an investment property that might build some long term capital gain, is a good basis for your decision making. If your plan is to renovate for capital gain, then that off the plan property might not be the right investment for you. Also, before you think about buying in a regional location, look at the industries that are integral to the region and consider how secure those industries are. There are no guarantees in life and if your personal finances can t withstand a downturn, then that location may not be the best choice for you. How much you can actually afford to borrow is another important factor. Talk to a trusted mortgage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Cultural Changes From The 1960 S Conrad Phillip Kottak has visited the small village of Arembepe numerous times over the years. His visits were frequent, but spaced out over a couple years, which caused him to begin to notice some very dramatic changes from the Arembepe he came to know. The development of a more stratified society caused for some major changes coming to the small community. This essay is going to address the major cultural changes from the 1960 s to the 1980 s and whether or not the suburbanization of this villagecommunity was good or bad. Arembepe in the 1960 s consisted of only 159 households (730 people), which made up the small village community. Malnutrition, poor public health, and high infant mortality struck the village during this time. Traveling to and from Arembepe proved difficult because it lacked paved roads. Hardly any people ever visited the village, which is why Kottak often referred to it as being isolated from the rest of the world. Having no electricity in the village also proved a real struggle for communication to the outside world. 74% of men in Arembepe worked as fishermen and 11% worked in business (Kottak 50). In order to make a good living, it was very common for men to have more than one job. Women would cook, clean, make items for fishing, and help run stores. Overall, Arembepe in the 1960 s was not a stratified society, but that was soon going to change. The Daodejing is the book, composed of many philosopher s views and philosophy through poetry, for the belief of Daoism or Taoism. Like many other of Chinese philosophies, Daoism, teaches not only the balance and unity in oneself, but unity and balance with the state as well. Philosophy unified the Chinese statehoods and balanced the people within the states. Though the states were often at war and dynasties often triumphed over one another, China was still unified under the Mandate of Heaven. Within the Mandate of Heaven, China was unified under one ruler that followed the way of heaven and receives blessings from the gods. If a ruler no longer went by the way of the heavens, then they would be overthrown and replaced by one that now received the blessings of the gods. In Thebes, Dionysus finds a structured and ordered society, with their goal simply being to work as hard as possible, while Dionysus aims to simply live to have fun and make merry. Due to the disrespect given to him by the Thebans as a result of their differences, Dionysusaims to take revenge and force the people to worship him by destroying their society and recreating it in his image. As soon as King Pentheus says bring me my arms, attendants! and stop talking, you!, there is no more talking to be done, and one can see that at this point that the always rational King Pentheus has repressed the irrational, represented by Dionysus, since he is quite literally calling for his weapons to kill Dionysus and his followers. (Euripides 809). Since King Pentheus has rejected what Dionysus has had to say and called for his armor, Dionysus is left with no choice but to become vengeful and consequently starts to lead King Pentheus to his doom. The critic AJ Podlecki refers to this when he says Dionysus had told Pentheus, but he did not heed the warning, for his final assault on the Bacchae is seen as a mad expedition which he is bound to fail (Podlecki 151). Dionysus had warned Pentheus not to do anything rash, because there was no chance that he could defeat a god in battle. • 25. Lord Of The Flies Literary Analysis The Beast Within The Lord of the Flies portrays the years of adolescence in a way not commonly perceived. In the novel, William Golding depicts childhood as times of tribulation and terror when the children are put in certain adult like situations. Without mature role models to look up to, children turn to other children for leadership. Additionally, when given the chance children would rather play around than do manual labor. Lastly, children stray to savagery without rules or social boundaries. Therefore, Goulding effectively portrayed the attitudes of adolescents which shaped the meaning of the book as a whole. When children are without adultauthority, they look for an adult like person for leadership. In the beginning of the book, when the boys realize they are all alone, they to Ralph for leadership. A quote to represent this is, But there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 15). This quote shows how the boys are drawn to Ralph because of his physical characteristics and because he had set a rule, which was to give attention to the person holding the conch. These are meant to provide leverage to her argument yet they distract the audience from the main idea and Tannen does not incorporate the information into her own ideas thus these accounts fail to validate her theory. Symbolism In St George And The Dragon Known from legend, St. George is the knight who is told to have slain a dragon in Libya to save a young woman, generally known as holding the title of princess, as expressed in Raphael s painting St. George and the Dragon. In this oil painting, the dragon is seemingly the embodiment of evil in the town while St. George is the knight that risks his life to slay and rid of the evil within the town in a somewhat chivalrous manner. In St. George and the Dragon, Raphael expresses Christianity combined with chivalry in his painting through the use of small details, symbolic representations, contrast, human figures, and the depiction of these human figures and or characters. Raphael could have done this due to the rise of Christianity in the Renaissanceera and chivalry in art at the time. The expression of Christianity can be represented through symbolism, color, and the details of Raphael s painting. The dragon can be seen as symbolic of the Devil in Christianity and in turn St. George slaying the dragon can be represented as the destruction of the Devil and all evil within that setting. The color of the dragon is dark and is viciously drawn which contrasts with the white and seemingly lightness of St. George s horse that brings out the good and evil within the painting. This corresponds with Christianity as the Devil is normally depicted as dark and cruel compared to the white that represents purity of those who are righteous. As a result of overcrowded emergency rooms, patient length of stay becomes more important. Throughput times in the emergency department (ED) play a substantial role in patient and staff satisfaction. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Efficiency or streamlined processes are necessary to see and treat the number of patients presenting. A specific problem that contributes to increased length of stay and delayed diagnosis is the timely result of urinalysis. The root cause of delayed urinalysis results is attributed to failure to collect, failure to transport, and failure to order. On a regular basis, the physicians wait on urinalysis reports when all other ordered lab has resulted. In exploring the possible causes of delayed results, it was discovered that when a urinalysis was ordered, many times the patient could not void. Therefore, the urine was not collected and soon forgotten by the nurse. Additionally, urines collected were not transported to the lab. The patient was provided with the specimen cup and collected the urine, but it was left sitting at the bedside even though the lab technician might have been in the room. Last, a problem exists with collecting urines but failing to order the test. Nurses implement protocols but fail to order the test in the system. In a simulation study, significant improvement in ED efficiency was shown with decreasing lab turnaround time (Storrow, et al., 2008). First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture, temperature and the like. However, these purported properties of the wax are not constant; if the wax is brought close to a flame, its color, sound, texture and all the rest will change. Nevertheless, Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.) Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability. Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination. The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended, flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic, supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations, Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing. These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm, deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Madison is one of the most influential and groundbreaking legal proceeding in the history of the United States. The Marbury v. Madison case was the first of its kind. Prior to Marbury vs. Madison, it was unclear whether the U.S. Supreme Court had the power to determine the constitutionality of laws or what should happen when the Constitution and a law were in conflict. Consequently the theory of every such government must be that an act of the Legislature repugnant to the Constitution is void. With these words written by Chief Justice Marshall, this case is significant because for the first time, the Supreme Court declared an act of Congress unconstitutional because it was contrary to the Constitution. This decision was the foundation for the Supreme Court s power of judicial review, the power by which the Court could determine the constitutionality of laws passed by Congress. Marshall stated in the majority opinion Court must either decide that case conformably to the law, disregarding the Constitution, or conformably to the Constitution, disregarding the law, the Court must determine which of these conflicting rules governs the case. This is of the very essence of judicial duty. Marshall is saying that the Judicial has the decision on the two opposing laws and thus creating Judicial Review. Nothing in the Constitution gave the Court this specific power. Marshall, however, believed that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marilee Sprenger (1998) said memory is the only way to verify learning . After researching the parts of the brain and learning how it processes information, her statement is true. Memoryis the process by which we retain the knowledge and skills for the future (Sousa, 2011). According to Sprenger (1998), there a five separate memory lanes: semantic, episodic, procedural, automatic, and emotional. Semantic memory deals with words and is the most difficult because you must process it repeatedly for long term effects. Episodic memory is location driven. The first strategy I will do in my classroom is to provide down time in between learning episodes. I teach in block scheduling and I ve come to realize that students remember best what comes first, then when comes last, but tend to forget everything in the middle. My Personal Study Habits Introduction This paper will be an examination of my personal study habits as a college freshman, and an effort to discover techniques to improve my ability to learn and remember the information I need to successfully graduate from college. I have learned most of my study habits by watching my very successful daughter, a high school junior with a rigorous course load making high honors, and attempting to mimic her. She has a very strong work ethic; generally, once she arrives home she takes a short break to change clothes and pet a cat, and then dives in to her homework. She knows when to give herself a breather to check her social media accounts, and she is very clear that since she always studies hard and does her best, she never fails, even if she gets a D or F on a test or quiz. The work of GaudГ is remarkable for its range of forms, textures, polychromy and for the free, expressive way in which these elements of his art seem to be composed. The magnificence of Antoni GaudГ s architecture coincided, as the result of a personal decision by the architect, with a progressive withdrawal by the man himself.
