Introduction
To
windows 98 Windows 98 is a consumer-oriented operating system
developed by Microsoft as part of its Windows 9x family of
Microsoft Windows operating systems.
LoggingOn
• In network environment, the workstation Should be connected to the server
computer to get the various resources available in the server.This process is
called “logging on”.
• In windows NT environment if we switch on the computer a dialogue box
appears as shown in a picture
• The user should type the username, Password, and the domain name. After
these entries the user should click “OK “ Button to connect into network
server.
Desktop Desktop is working area On the screen, on which we see
various Icons and the application windows, which are in run
state. Iconi is a graphical representation of Object. Normal icons
in the desktop are:
• My computer
• Network neighbourhood
• Recycle bin
• My documents
Icons
I) Application icons:
An application icons represent an application that is running. It is
displayed in the task bar.
II) Group icons:
Group icons represent a window that is opened.
III) Program item icon:
It represent the application icons, whi are in the desktop.

It is a file folder manipulating program.The following steps
are followed to excuse it
1. Click “start”.
2. Choose “program”
3. Click “windows explorer
Find optin
 It is used to search a particular folder, sub folder or file in the hard
disk of a computer. A file can be searched by
1. Name
2. Data
3. Size
4. File type
Steps to find option
 Choose Start.
 Choose FindactionFiles or Folders.
 The Find dialog box appears.
• Click the Name & Location tab.
• Type the name of the file you’re looking for in the Named: field.
• In the Containing text: field, type a piece of information related to the file you’re
looking for. If you don’t know any information, you can leave this field blank.
• In the Look in: drop-down list box, choose the place where you want to look.
• Click Find Now.
• The small magnifying glass in the lower-right corner of the dialog box turns
around as your computer searches for the file.
• A list, which may contain the file you’re searching for, appears at the bottom of
the dialog box.
• Click the file name to open it.
• If your search is unsuccessful, you may get the messageThere are no items to
show in this view.
Shortcut
Shortcut is used to create two or more logical places
for the same file
• In the right pane ofWindows Explorer, click the file,
program, or folder for which you want to make a
shortcut.The item darkens when you select it.
• Choose File “Create short cut”To creat the shortcuts
Briefcase
Microsoft Windows, My Briefcase or Briefcase is a special folder
that allows the user to copy and synchronize copies of files
between multiple computers.
