This document presents an adaptive fuzzy PID controller for speed control of a brushless DC motor. A traditional PID controller introduces performance issues for the motor control system. To address this, the document proposes replacing the PID controller with an intelligent fuzzy logic controller. A simulation model of the brushless DC motor drive system is developed. Fuzzy logic rules and membership functions are designed for the controller. Simulation results show the proposed adaptive fuzzy PID controller improves speed response and minimizes torque ripple under changing load conditions compared to a conventional PID controller.
