Underage Drinking On Fridays
Young people have continued to consume alcohol especially on weekends. Consequently, young
people have continued to experience the aftermath of drinking too much alcohol at the tender age. As
a result, most of the countries categorize underage drinking as the leafing problem in public health.
Teenagers always find a way to avoid being noticed by their parents. Even though it is their choice,
most initially know what they are doing is wrong, but do it anyways. The social choice theory is vital
when examining why young people make the decision to drink beer on Fridays when their parents are
away. Choice theory is the belief that we are internally, not externally motivated (Coulson, 2013 p.119

Informative Essay On Alcatraz
If I said: It s the site of the first lighthouse on the West Coast and was once a fortress, would you know
what famous California landmark I was referring to?
Now, what if I included the following details: It has been the subject of numerous books, movies, and
much speculation. Al Capone was one of its first guests. Burt Lancaster starred in a movie that was
set, in part, here.
Naturally, I m talking about Alcatraz Island or The Rock as it s also known. Over a million visitors go
to Alcatraz annually, but few arrive knowing the island s complete history. I was one of the people
surprised to learn that Alcatraz was more than a former federal penitentiary.
Alcatraz was initially a military prison. During the Civil War, Confederate sympathizers and persons
accused of treason were held here. In the late 1890s, nineteen Hopi men were incarcerated for
resisting laws intended to wipe out their culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcatraz was considered the prison system s prison, a secure facility where dangerous felons could be
housed. The Rock s notorious prisoners included Al Capone and Robert Stroud (whom Burt Lancaster
played in the Birdman of Alcatraz).
The Rock has the distinction, albeit contested, of being the only prison that no one has ever
successfully escaped from. In 1963, three inmates escaped from Alcatraz. The men were never seen
again and prison officials claimed that the men died in the cold waters of the San Francisco Bay. The
families of the prisoners, however, claimed that they survived.
A visit to Alcatraz will demonstrate the difficulty of escape and the complexities of the plot to do so.

Riggs V. Palmer Case Analysis
After Francis B. Palmer murder, the main question that was posed by the court is should a murderer
inherit ? There was a disagreement between the judges on how the statute of wills should be applied
and interpreted. As a result, Judge Gray made some surprisingly strong arguments that the court is
bound by the rigid rules of law , therefore, Elmer should not be denied his inheritance. Unlike the
dissenting judge, Judge Earl claims that no one should take advantage of his own unlawful actions.
Due to these different perspectives, I will first analyse both judge s decision. Secondly, I will make a
claim that Judge Earl s decision was inconsistent and invalidates the written statutory law, therefore,
the dissenting judges make a stronger argument. Finally, I will use the Legal Positivism Theory to
challenge Judge Earl s Natural Law Theory to support my position. ... Show more content on

Palmer case, the court sided with the majority judges on the notion that Elmer should not benefit from
his crime. Considering that this maxim was not law, the court s decision was solely based on moral
judgement. Even though there was a binding will that granted Elmer the property, the majority
believed that the legislators who created the statute of wills did not intend to allow a murderer to
inherit under the will. Judge Earl continued to infer that if the case existed at the time of the creation
of statutory wills, necessary steps would have been taken to prevent this issue. His argument was
based on the fact that Elmer s intention was to commit murder to receive the property, therefore, to
give him this benefit would be unfair to the testator and his

Us Military Drones Essay

Computer Class Unit 9 Assignment B
US Military Drones It is believed that United States Military Drones are one of the most advanced
robotic systems in the world today. According to Historynet.com, it is estimated that there are
thousands of these drones, or unmanned military vehicles and aerial devices, in the inventory and care
of the US Military (Singer, 2011). Drones are mechanisms and technologies that can be used without
the use of a human being inside of the robotic system. In most cases these drones are maneuvered
from a distance using remote control apparatuses and are much like the GPS systems that a person
might use in their car. Drones are watched and manipulated from anywhere in the world. ... Show

The Predator, which is manufactured by the US, which cost up to $11 million per UVA, and the larger,
more expensive, more advanced Reaper, cost $30 million per unit. We are known to have over 7,000
drones and most of them (approximately 5,500) are used by the Air Force alone. In 2012, the Pentagon
asked Congress for a budget of $5 billion to make and maintain the force of drones (Tomiuc, 2012).
Israel does manufacture the world s largest and most advanced drone, the Heron TP Eiten, costing
approximately $35 million. This particular drone has a wing span of 26 meters and is the size of a
Boeing 737 being able to reach heights of 12,000 feet. It has the ability to stay in flight for about 20
hours at a time (Tomiuc, 2012). While drones are not new news, they have been extremely helpful in
our war with other countries thus far. With Iran threatening Israel and the United States, and the recent
threats from North Korea to launch pre emptive strikes against the United States and South Korea,
drones are again going to be very useful in helping us targeting the missile strikes that are launched at
us. As we already have deployed our Patriot Missile Launcher, we are beginning to prepare the drones
to take us to the next level if we need to strike back.

Improving Throughput Using Electronic Prescribing
Throughout this report, the interoperability and communication between departments will be
discussed in detail, in order to improve throughput using the current software system, Epic in this
case. The goal is optimal patient outcomes using electronic prescribing. A solution will be reviewed
utilizing Epic, a standard electronic health record (EHR) involving the HL7 initiatives.
The Problem The problem is fragmented electronic health records (EHRs) that lack communication
and availability. Interoperability does not benefit the patient or the healthcare provider. In healthcare,
interoperability is the ability of different information technology systems and software applications to
communicate, exchange data, and use the information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
E prescribing can be a part of the EHR in Epic, which would include patient data, and not just
prescription information. When e prescriptions are utilized in Epic, the medication is checked for
interactions with the patient s other medications and allergies. Check systems within Epic look for
drug allergy, drug drug, and how the medication reacts with the disease. In a case study of 17
physicians in an ambulatory clinic conducted by Abramson et al., error rates from prescribing
decreased from 35.7 per 100 prescriptions to 12.2 per 100 prescriptions in a year of e prescribing as
reviewed in this study. The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health
(HITECH) Act of 2009 stated that healthcare providers would have access to EHRs to ensure the
meaningful use standards per the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). Meaningful use
is attained by increasing the quality of patient outcomes by having access to the medication data, the
patient s history, and diagnosis by the prescriber. Prescribing is safer, when the provider is aware of
the patient s history, current medications, and allergies, therefore better patient outcomes. In the
United States, the HITECH Act and the meaningful use standards stated by CMS have increased the
use of e prescribing per Friedman (2009). The CMS made e prescribing a

The Jungle And Fast Food Nation Rhetorical Analysis
Relevant literature usually addresses real life situations, bringing light to serious issues. Most of the
time, an author will write in hopes to influence others to believe a certain way. Authors must strategize
to master the art of persuasion. There are multiple appeals a writer may use in order to get their point
across to the audience. The Jungle and Fast Food Nation use ethos, pathos, and logos in efforts to gain
support towards their purpose of improving the work conditions and quality of life for immigrants. In
order to convince an audience through an ethical appeal, a writer would use ethos. Ethos places an
emphasis on the credibility of the source. In The Jungle Upton Sinclair writes, In the beginning he had
been fresh and strong, and he had gotten a job the first day, but now he was second hand, a damaged
article... (Sinclair 90). Jurgis, Sinclair s character, goes from adoring capitalism to despising it. Since
he proves to be open minded, his feelings seem less biased. Once the reader observes the vicious cycle
Jurgis endures, it becomes difficult to make an argument against him. In Fast Food Nation Schlosser
states, We are human beings, more than one person told me, but they treat us like animals (Schlosser
169). Instead of just using a single source, Schlosser uses numerous. The fact that the author is
collecting stories from several different people makes the account more believable. When an author is

The Declaration Of Rights And Grievances
By 1765, at a Stamp Act Congress, all but four colonies were represented as the Declaration of Rights
and Grievances was passed. They were determined to let Parliament know that they were equal to
British citizens, that there would be no taxation without representation, and all efforts to stop tax on
colonists would continue (Kennedy, etal 2011.) Although Lord Rockingham, the predecessor of
Grenville, sought to repeal of the Stamp Act, this in no way meant Parliament was conceding their
control. In fact, while the Stamp Act was repealed, another called the Declaratory Act of 1766, gave
Parliament the authority to make laws binding the American Colonies, in all cases whatsoever. In
1767, George III passed the Townshend Acts to collect tax on glass, lead, paints, paper and, tea.
Recognizing that tea was a favorite among the Americans, it ensured greater revenue the British
government. Again, the colonists rights for representation were ignored and they started to boycott
British goods and ultimately, smuggle tea. When the Quartering Act was passed, which specified that
colonists were to give room and board to British troops, tension began to rise. For two years, the
colonists tolerated British troops on their soil and their dissatisfaction with the British Parliament and
King George III became evident through many violent riots, abusiveness of tax collectors and
destruction of property. According to Kennedy, etal (2011), Parliament, continually met with

Nowadays, Americans use technology to obtain information, because it s easier than knowing the
material. This has become a huge distraction and it s making people rely on technology way more than
is needed, especially the young people. For example, they use Google to search things like homework,
essays, speeches, etc. They do this as a shortcut to getting their work done faster because they can find
what they are looking for in a matter of seconds, instead of actually doing the work by themselves and
it s leading to an intellectually impoverished society. In the article, Is Google Making Us Stupid, the
author believes that Google is used by most people to find information by just typing in a couple of
words; however, those people don t learn the information or value knowledge (Carr). This wouldn t be
a problem for the people if they lived a tech free life because without technology there is no reliance
on it. Also if they lived a tech free life, they wouldn t have to worry about getting spied on.
Technology, such as phones, is used to spy on people because the government and big companies like
to keep track of their every move. In, That s no phone. That s my tracker, the author stated cellphone

Netflix Is An International Provider Of Television Series

Netflix is an international provider of television series, cartoons, and movies. It was founded by Reed
Hastings and Marc Randolph on August 29, 1997. It has its headquarters in Los Gatos, California.
Seventy five million people are subscribed to Netflix, and forty four million of the subscribers are
from the United States of America (Lieberman). Netflix was recently launched in one hundred and
thirty countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia. Subscribers sign up to

Nonetheless, there are chances that Netflix suffer losses in China.
Netflix might make an immense loss in China because the rival television service providers, such as
Xunlei, Tencent, and Youku Tudou, have tough local competition (Osawa).

Most Chinese nationals have access to the free to air channels. According to the expert researchers, it
could take three to five years to convince the subscribers to pay for the television service. Besides, the
Chinese government maintains enough funds to produce and develop the China film content, such as
documentaries, action movies, and dramas (Leung).
The Netflix s competitors also offer advertising services. For example, the Alibaba Company bought
Youku Tudou. Alibaba is the largest website for online buying and selling of goods and services.
However, Netflix offers television entertainment services only. Alibaba conducts several types of
researches concerning consumer preference, which gives it a competitive advantage over Netflix.
Therefore, it is difficult for Netflix to compete with companies holding crucial information about the
products preferred in the market (Jaafar). Furthermore, China s television service providers ensure that
the theatrical series and movies are made available three to four weeks after release. Such promptness
attracts more subscribers. On the contrary, Hollywood s theatrical releases are made available only
after a few months. As a result, Chinese prefer

MANAGEMENT IN EAST KODAK
As the time has brought people to the technology world, everything seems to change dramatically
including many involved industries have to adopt more flexible strategies in their strategic
management in order to achieve the competitive advantage. Some argue that the strategies should be
deliberately planned and executed, so the organization will have a direction and therefore act

leading online digital photography service (Easyshare Gallery), Kodak led the retail market for

Evidently there were two significant sorts, making part in commercial printing which consolidating

John Smith Accomplishments
John Smith believed that success in such adventures requires individual initiative and commitment.
His journey began working with his dad in his shop up until the age of 16. After his father had passed,
he attempted to run it on his own, but that didn t last long; so he joined the French Army. After a while
he started exploring the new world which included Virginia, New England and Summer Isles. Smith
had a very prestigious and independent outlook on life and throughout his journey it had brought him
misfortune for much of his explorations, but with the misfortune came a bundles of successes. One
incident which played a significant role in his journey was being captured by Powhatan; and

organized the settlers to where they could defend their selves from them once he leaves to continue on

chaotic environment Smith took control of Jamestown s defense. Under his command, the fort was

Lyme Disease Analysis
Lyme disease or Lyme Borreliosis is a vector borne disease that is caused by spirochaete Borrelia
burgdorferi bacteria (WHO, 2016). These bacteria are transmitted through the bites of infected deer
ticks (WHO, 2016). Symptoms of the disease include fever, chills, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint
pain (WHO, 2016). Often a rash appears at the site of the tick bite and may gradually expand to a ring
around the bite. Lyme disease was first observed in the State of Connecticut in 1975. Currently, the
disease may be found in forested areas of Asia, Europe and the United States. In these areas deer ticks
feed on mice and rodents, which serve as a reservoir for this bacteria (MayoClinic.org, 2015). Then in

Unfortunately, for individuals in the developing world resources are lacking. It is individuals in these
situations that are extremely vulnerable to potential exposure. Climate change is also impacting
disease transmission. Large environmental areas are shrinking due to urban sprawl which is leading to
increased populations density s, increased pathogen load, decreased distributions, and a greater
prevalence of disease (Mills, Gage, Khan, 2010). Thus, larger numbers of individuals are living in
close proximity of disease vectors. In this paper I have discussed the vector borne disease of Lyme

they do present public health hazards. Climate change is adversely impacting environments and
humans are now living closer than ever to the boundaries of these diseases. In fact, in greater densely

Barnes and Noble can make themselves very unique by offering a reoccurring a competitive

from the now accepted SAAS (Software As a Service) approach and aim for recurring subscription

History of the PC Essay
History of the PC
Nothing epitomizes modern life better than the computer. For better or worse, computers have
infiltrated every aspect of our society. Today computers do much more than simply compute:
supermarket scanners calculate our grocery bill while keeping store inventory; computerized
telephone switching centers play traffic cop to millions of calls and keep lines of communication
untangled; and automatic teller machines (ATM) let us conduct banking transactions from virtually
anywhere in the world. But where did all this technology come from and where is it heading? To fully
understand the impact computers have on our lives and promises they hold for the future, it is
important to understand the personal computer. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wozniak worked for Hewlett Packard, while Jobs worked for Atari Company. Wozniak had been
working in computer design for a while when, in 1976, he designed what would become the Apple 1.
This was Wozniak s first contribution to the personal computer. The Apple 1 was built in printed
circuit board form when Jobs insisted it could be sold. In April of 1976 at the Homebrew Computer
Club In Palo Alto, the Apple 1 made its debut, but few people took it very seriously. The Apple 1 was
based on the MOStek 6502 chip, whereas most other kit computers were built from the Intel 8080

included the circuit board. A tape interface was sold separately, but you had to build your own case for
the Apple 1. The circuit board itself initially cost $667. It wasn t until 1977, when the Apple II debuted
that Apple begun to take off. The Apple II was based on Wozniak s Apple I design, but had several
additions. The first improvement was a plastic case; this made the Apple II the first PC to come in any
kind of casing. Secondly was the ability to display color graphics. Also it included a larger ROM,
more expandable RAM and had integer basic hard coded on the ROM for easier programming. With
all this came two game paddles and a demo cassette for $1,298. The following year Apple released a

1 A Brief Introduction to Background Knowledge of the Holy Bible
The Holy Bible is a book that can be found almost anywhere on the earth. Almost every family in
western countries has a version of Bible, so it has come to be one of the major sources of English
culture. It has been translated into more than 2000 different languages and dialects. It is also the world
most popular book. Every year s more copies of the Bible are sold than any other publication, and the
number of sales is increasing. The word Bible is derived from the Greek meaning book or books. The
Bible is not a single book,

Cross Cultural Differences in India
Western Governors University
India has become a global conduit for business as they have liberalized their economic policies over
the past 20 years. Companies are flocking to India because of many factors, including, less expensive
labor costs, increasing growth rate, and an abundance of a highly skilled workforce. These factors in
addition to other advantages have substantially increased the number of United States businesses
looking to grow beyond the U. S borders into the county of India. Dunlop Software Consultant s goal
is to also expand its operations internationally and believes that India has the business environment to

When greeting someone it is expected that one would bow with their hands together. In the U.S.,
saying hello or goodbye with a hand wave is an acceptable gesture, yet in India a hand wave is a sign
of saying go away . When communicating with another person it is an understood rule that there
should be a one arm s length between the parties during conversation. Overall, when communicating
within the Indian Culture, there are many ways to easily offend them. Education of their culture could
have great benefits to communication and respect. When doing business or just simply greeting an
Indian person, the last thing you want to happen is offend them or their culture. Knowing there are
different ways of communicating between cultures will have a positive outcome from a business
aspect and also a social aspect. The final cross cultural difference I will discuss is the collectivist
culture of India versus the individualistic culture of the United States. India is more of a collectivist
culture, whereas the U.S. is strongly individualistic. The family is at the center of Indian society,
which is largely patriarchal. Several generations of a family are brought together to live in one
household. The hierarchical nature of the Indian culture extends into the family as well, where the
head of the family makes the key decisions for the household (Kumar, 2005). An Indian s primary
loyalty usually lies with their family rather than with their

Navigating The Csu Global Library
Option #1: Navigating the CSU Global Library
ProQuest and Business Source Complete (EBSCO) are the two databases that are being compared in
this article. Initially ProQuest seems easiest to navigate and provides a wide range of topics. EBSCO
was also chosen due to the focus on business related articles. Comparing these databases on a business
related topic will prove which one has the best outcome. Searching, navigating, narrowing the scope
and using the article tools are all important parts to identifying the right research. Badke (2014) states
in reference to searching databases that if you want results that reflect what you are seeking in your

When reviewing the EBSCO help tools it explains that even in a basic search there are still search
options. Help tools similarly explain, options for selecting phrases, choosing AND/OR, and even turn
on a smart text search, which leverages technology to conduct the best results. Without limiting the
search a basic search of mobile banking turns up 11,081 items. This is a much smaller pool than what
ProQuest brought up, however, EBSCO seems to be more business focused and also lists, newspapers,
magazines, trade publications and videos.
Narrowing the Scope of the Search Results
Advanced search seems like the way to go when narrowing down the scope of the research. As you
start typing it provides the user with word suggestions. While typing mobile banking it suggested
consumer and mobile banking and mobile banking adoption. There are also AND, OR and NOT
options. Selections for full text, peer reviewed and scholarly journals are also available. There is even
an option to select all kinds of publication dates. Using suggested topics, plus using the AND feature
(consumer adoption of internet banking) AND (mobile banking adoption) within the past three years
seems like the best bet. The advanced search only narrowed down the results to 710 articles. 710
articles, is still too many and needs to be narrowed down even more. The publication chart on the side
showed the majority of the articles were published in 2015 and 2016. Knowing that technology

The Conceptages And Advantages Of The Dynamic HTML
DHTML stands for Dynamic HTML. DHTML is introduced by Microsoft internet explorer 4.0 in
1990. DHTML is not a language or a web standard. DHTML is a combination of JavaScript, CSS, and
HTML. As per World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), DHTML is used by vendors to describe the
combination of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML which allows the document to be animated.
History of DHTML
The first dynamic HTML was developed in the year 1990. Netscape DHTML and Microsoft DHTML
had different ideas about what technologies should be used to make HTML or dynamic.

DHTML HTML
DHTML stands for Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language. DHTML is not a language, it is a web

The Common Fallacies Of Reasoning
Common Fallacies in Reasoning The practice of allowing citizens to vote for their leadership is
currently used in two thirds of the world s countries. As such, it is imperative to the basic freedoms of
the public that those citizens are properly educated on the matters they vote for. However, several
cases of voter s remorse , such as that over the American presidency of Donald Trump or Britain s
decision to leave the EU, imply that more work needs to be done in this regard. A good starting point
might be to raise awareness of logical fallacies, strategies that the media uses to sway opinion with
implication rather than fact. Several examples of these logical fallacies can be seen during the 2016
Presidential Election, leading up to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s the Either/Or fallacy in action, where Trump is implying his policy to be a strictly win/lose
scenario, shutting down discussion of a potential compromise right then and there. That s not
supposed to be an admirable quality for the Presidency.
While this was going on, one would expect the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, to be more well
recognized by voters. Unfortunately, her campaign was haunted by scandals from her previous role as
Secretary of State, such as storing classified information on a private email server, and leaving
potential deals with foreign countries undisclosed. When questioned about it at a Presidential Debate,
Clinton tried to dodge the subject altogether:
Wallace: Secretary Clinton, during your 2009 Senate confirmation hearing, you promised to avoid
even the appearance of a conflict of interest with your dealing with the Clinton Foundation while you
were secretary of state, but e mails show that donors got special access to you...Can you really say that
you kept your pledge to that Senate committee?
Clinton: Well, everything I did as secretary of state was in furtherance of our country s interests and
our values...But I am happy, in fact I m thrilled to talk about the Clinton Foundation, because it is a
world renowned charity and I am so proud of the work that it does. (Medium)

Western Culture And Policies That Have Shaped The Modern...
Western culture and policies have shaped the modern world, especially the Middle East, in many
ways. Since the sixteenth century, the nations of Western civilization have been the driving wheels of
modernization. Globalization is simply the spread of modern institutions and ideas from one high
power to the wider world. Technological innovation and economic growth along with such concepts as
democracy, individualism, and the rule of law administered by an impartial judiciary, set Western
societies above and beyond any possible rival. Other cultures looked to the West as a model, a threat,
or some combination of both. One country that was most successful in their confrontations with
Western states was Japan, who incorporated Western ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, the cultural identity of a society expresses its fundamental self understanding that constitutes
the values of the people. In establishing religions people were looking for constitutional values.
Religion became a cultural value to certain societies. For example, look at the Western political
culture. It has been shaped by Greek philosophy, Roman law, feudalism, and the Renaissance. Western
culture also has been shaped a great deal by Christianity, Judaism and by Islam. Much of the Middle
East experienced centuries of Ottoman rule, generally from the mid sixteenth century up until the
declining years of the nineteenth century. The Ottomans hold on the Middle East was often tenuous
and frequently interrupted. Perhaps the biggest relic of British rule was the institution of monarchy,
which they secured in almost all the lands they ruled. Nevertheless, the powerful forces uniting the
Middle East have at times also been sources of division and conflict. In many historical episodes
subtle differences in dialect or ethnic identity have served as powerful catalysts for the communication
of national or sub national loyalties. The Middle East is far from monumental and homogenous. Its
differences have been a source of both strength and inspiration. The most visible, most pervasive, and

types of events that can lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD: A Growing Epidemic. ) Anyone that has gone through a traumatic event can be diagnosed with

An Example Of Conventional Warfare In The 21st Century
Conventional warfare is increasingly ill suited to fighting and winning wars in the 21st Century.
Critically evaluate that claim. You should refer in your answer to examples of contemporary conflicts.
Throughout Human history Mankind have fought against each other, wagging war against their
neighbours for territory, resources, ideology and a myriad of other reasons. Over the ages the way we
wage war has changed, leaps forward in technology and tactics where made frequently, each Nation
trying to earn an edge over their neighbours. For example the introduction of Steel, the Musket, The

This essay will suggest a hybrid approach to the conflicts of the 21st century utilising a broad range of
tactics.
The Global political sphere of the 21st century is dominated by the US, while China is on the rise and
Russia is still relevant. Few states, if any, are capable of matching America s overwhelming
conventional military combat power. Because of our conventional superiority, adversaries will seek
more indirect forms of conflict. Most of the forms of conflict are considered unconventional wars.
Those who are ideologically opposed to US such as Al Qaida and Daesh have used Terrorism to strike
out at the US. Over the last century with the introduction of nuclear weapons. The threat of state on
state warfare featuring the destructive capabilities of major powers has declined, however it remains a
distinct possibility. There has been an increase in identity based intrastate wars, However in the world
today, polarized as it is between the East and West, no revolutionary war can remain a purely internal
affair. Most interstate conflicts between major powers are fought through proxy wars rather than direct
confrontation. Proxy wars being major countries backing various internal faction within an intra state
conflict, an example being the US backing the Syrian rebels, while Russia backs the Assad regime.

3.2 Competition
The coffee house sector has become one of the largest growing in food service. The competition does
not just start and end with nationalized coffee house chains, but also includes the smaller local coffee
house businesses.
On launching in the U.K. market, Dunkin Donuts would receive most competition from the already
established coffee house brands such as Starbucks, Costa Coffee, Caffé Nero, Puccino s and Coffee
Republic (Table 2, refer appendices).
3.3 Consumer expenditure
For Dunkin Donuts international market sales, they mainly focus on low income consumers, and its
major products (coffee, donuts) are affordable for UK s consumers. Looking at the following data, the
annual expenditure on coffee proves a strong purchasing power on coffee products. Based on this data,
it is significant for DD to note that the expenditure on the coffee, tea and cocoa in the UK grew by
27.7% from 1995 to 2007 (Euro Monitor, 2008) (Table 3, refer appendices).

Advertisers Sell Images Not Products Essay
The definition of advertising is outdated. It was previously, to endorse a product and praise goodness
to induce the public to buy. They are now brainwashing consumers to buy their products using images
to sell the product. The advertiser s aim is to make the product look as good as it can through an
attractive image. There are statistics, which I obtained from a Dolly Magazine, 16th May 2000, which
proves that one out of four people in Australia buy a product because of the image shown in the
advertisment. The images are eye catching and mention something important about the product.
Ultimately it is true that, Advertisers sell images, not products.
The environment plays a very important role in advertising. In an advertisment I found ... Show more

Of course this is just an image trying to sell and endorse phone sex. Their gestures are important
because they are referring to be living without a care in the world. The ways they lay in the spas or on
the beds indicate they are relaxed and restful, this appeals to men. The symbols in this advert are
definitely what they are on, i.e.: spas, pools or beds. This specifies that these girls live in a perfect and
carefree world.
This brings me onto the next subject, appeals. Appeals are relating the audience with the product with
a story and emotions. The positioning of the advertisements has to be put in spots where they will
appeal to a certain audience. 40 50 year old males, teenagers etc. The can be a change from ugly to
beautiful miraculously which would appeal to teenagers because at their age they are self conscious.
Statistics are also used to appeal to the audience. If the public hears statistics they are instantly drawn
in. A perfect example of appealing to an audience is the notorious Nescafe advertisement. This
consists of a man and woman who meet each other over a cup of Nescafe. There is emotion involved
and this draws the audience in. There is a sequence of ads in this story and the audience is drawn in so
much that when there is the nest sequence they are practically glued to the television to know how it
ends. In thee and they get married, Of course every advertisement includes a cup of Nescafe but that s

O Connor complained that stories written by Southerners had been influenced by Television. She
stated that Southern identity is no cliché. The difference that French Marxist cultural critic, Henri
Lefebvre makes between absolute and abstract spatiality s is one that clarifies the conflicts in A Good
Man is Hard to Find . He said that these spaces are categorized by their relationship (Link 125). One
may say that through the eyes of Lefebvre, one can see the spaces of A Good Man Is Hard to Find in a
way that relinquishes, diminishing them to the basic constraint of sanctified, regular spaces of beauty,
from one viewpoint, and mischievous spaces of current capital on the other. The capacity of this
nonexistent structure to uncover the subtle elements of O Connor s spatial talk, and to do as such with
regards to the abstracting energy of capital, makes it a profitable supplement to exchanges of her
utilization of space. The short story stated that absolute space is made up on Christian fragments of
nature (Link 126) existing outside of capitalist relations. Link stated that absolute space is ruled by
natural methods such as traditional agrarianism and cultural revealing frameworks grounded in
religious acceptance. Link specified that Absolute space isn t greater than abstract space.
II. Abstract Space
The article states that Theoretical space is the result of a homogenizing power that motive is to make
space see through and readable leaving no space for outside voices. The abstraction in the story
reduces landscape by separating it from grace. Lefebvre writes Excess, or the incommunicable has no
existence in totalizing abstract space (Link 126). Link stated that this residue which remains opaque
the transparency of abstract inscriptions of space, is represented by The Misfit, who could be reduced
neither to a sentimental good man nor to an obscene killer(Link 126). The story states the misfit is in
his correct place only when the abstract place means containment such as prison. Stone mountain was
the first landmark that the family passed on their trip. Stone monument was known as a failed
monument.
III. Abstract Spatiality
The short story explained that the Grandmother brought

Environmental problems.
Soil erosion.
In Forests and the end of second millennium in forests in a full world (2001) George M. Woodwell
points out that the most successful civilizations have decayed as forests where destroyed and replaced
with scrublands. The scrublands were further impoverished by intensive grazing and erosion until the
underlying rocks emerged and became the land scape. He goes further giving an example of the
ancient Syria, Persia, throughout the Levant, and the Mediterranean basin, also the decline of the state
known as Greece today was as a result of loss of forests and the impoverishment of the landscape. The
same process happened with respect to Carthage in North Africa.
We also have contemporary examples of land degradation from Haiti and Madagascar, now over
populated and deforested and degraded to the point where their land scape are dysfunctional,
incapable of supporting organized society. The rivers no longer flow in established channels, water
from storms in mountains appears as floods in low lands and carries silt to fill harbors and destroy the
coastal fisheries, so to restore all these problems, there is need to reforest and stabilize the uplands to
regain control of water flows and water quality and to re establish a potentially

The Effect Of White Privilege
Before I modify or add to Mcintosh s daily effects of white privilege, I think it important to explain
the view point that I was brought up in. This is not intended to be racial, as some could turn it into but
I think that my perspective as a 55 year old white male raised in southeastern Ohio needs to be
considered. I lived through the 1960 2, and went to school with only 1 back family in my high school.
I never saw or heard of any of that black family having any type of problems in anyway. I was never
around any people of color until I was in the work force, where I found myself around all people of
color. I wanted to get to know them and made many friends with all I came into contact with. I have
never seen with my own eyes any type of discrimination ever. Although I have family who have
worked for companies that use affirmative action. They have watched as people got hired because of
color, and then took advantage of it. They would sleep on the job, and not do their assigned work, just
because they knew that the company would not fire them in order for the company to maintain a
certain level of minorities , both people of color, and women. And if you were both a women and a
person of color you had what would amount to diplomatic immunity. I personally feel that we should
do as the Ohio State marching Band does. The band puts the best on the field every game. You can go
to any football game and watch the band, and see about 20 band members standing at attention, while

How should Chase have bid in the first round competition to lead the HK$3.3 billion Disneyland
financing (Bid to win or bid to lose?)
In the first round of competition, there are 17 banks competing to propose a mandate for syndication.
How should Chase make the proposal to Disney depend on the following respects: (1) Disney s
requests (2) Evaluation of the returns and risks. Based on the previous two parts, design the ... Show

Second we analysis the macro economy of HK and the anticipated effect on Disney HK s operating
profits. As the tiger of Asia, Hong Kong has a free market economy low taxes, unrestricted capital
movement, stable HK$ linked to US$. What s more, HK s economy was based on services, tourism
and trading. According to data in Exhibit1, the number of visitors is 1570 times its local population in
1999, with an amount of 10.7 billion. Although we see the financial crisis had an impact on tourism,
but it recovered quickly from 11.7 billion in 1996 to 9.6 billion in 1998 then back to 10.7 billion in
1999. We anticipate a further recovery as the economy warm up. As a tourist resort, Hong Kong
Disneyland has high profit potential.
In a word, the relative exposure of credit risk is low.
* Syndicate risk
Hong Kong Disneyland asked for full underwriting. If the syndication is not successful under
subscription, Chase would end up holding too much loans and higher credit exposure to the project.
For example, if there is only one arranger and single stage general syndication, the max exposure of
Chase would be the total amount $HK 3.3 billion in an extreme case when nobody comes to commit
for the loan.
However, a senior HK government official underscored the government s commitment to the project
at Asia Pacific Loan Market Association Conference, there is a high potential of success syndication
since other banks observed the government s backing on this project.

Green Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Looking Green, Old Sport Throughout literature, colors are used to represent feelings, emotions and
actions of characters. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the color green is used to
represent the love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. As he grew up and worked for his
immense fortune, Gatsby transformed his life into one he felt would impress her the most. Fitzgerald
uses the color green to represent Gatsby s perfect image of Daisy, and the greed that engulfs the
couple throughout the entire novel. Green often is used to represent a fresh start someone experiences
after a large change, and the change could be due to a single individual. One day, Jordan tells Nick a
memory of her walking along a green lawn when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The iconic green light s meaning also changed for Gatsby. While he used to see the symbol of his love
and hopes for Daisy in the green light, but now it occurred to him that the colossal significance of that
light had now vanished forever, and Nick continues to describe that now it was a green light on a
dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). For years Gatsby sought a change in
his life, and he hoped the change would finally get the love of his life back, but the change he needed
was to let himself begin to move on. Fitzgerald used green to show a new beginning, and now Gatsby
was achieving his own. During October, Nick finally moves away from the Late Mr. Gatsby s home.
In addition, Jordan tells Daisy life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall (118) during an
earlier section in the novel. Autumn is the time of year when green leaves and grass fade to a yellow
and brown to die, symbolizing the feeling Gatsby felt for Daisy dying along with him. The last time
Gatsby was even seen was when he disappeared among the yellowing trees (161). His final moments
were spent walking among green trees that were beginning to fade to yellow, like the way his perfect
image of Daisy and his love for her faded as well. The color green became a symbol of a restart, like
how Gatsby felt after he let himself begin to move on from

Successful Aging Through Participatory Arts Programming...
80 is the new 40:
Successful Aging through Participatory Arts Programming for Older Adults
The United States is in the midst of a major demographic shift. People are living longer which means
that the population of older adults, those sixty years and over, is growing. It is projected that by the
year 2040, older adults will far outnumber school age children. Older adults are currently healthier and
lead more productive lives than ever before, due in part to modern medicine and the new idea of
seeing older people for their potential rather than their problems. This has prompted the concept of
creative aging or successful aging. This positive view of aging is not new, only the terminology.
Cicero, the Roman philosopher, is perhaps the first to introduce the idea of good aging in his essay, On
Old Age which was penned in the year 44 BC. He wrote this essay in his early 60 s to show that old
age is not a phase of decline and loss, and if approached properly becomes a time for positive change
and productive functioning (Baltes Baltes, 1990). Over the last few decades the subject of successful
aging has been the topic of a number of scholarly articles and books and has recently been tied to
participatory arts and humanities programming through agencies that provide services to the older
adult demographic. As public libraries struggle to remain relevant in today s society and respond to the
changing needs of older adult patrons it is important to become more

Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Farew And The Taming Of...
ENGLISH
The Taming of the Shrew , is one of William Shakespeare s most celebrated works in history and is
known to be one of his most comedic pieces of literature. With its lighthearted sense of a late 1500 s
Elizabethan era work, the famous play showed many relevant ideologies of society according to its
particular era in history. Many of Shakespeare s works have been adapted into successful films that
were made to suit the society of a new and different age, for example, his piece The Taming of the
Shrew , has been formed into several films and short films. In my opinion, it just shows that
Shakespeare s writings are still relevant today and forever will be timeless.
The most famous remakes of the of the 1500 s play, were Gil Junger s 1999 adaptation 10 Things I
Hate About You , and Franco Zeffirelli s 1967 version of The Taming of the Shrew . Both films show
elements of similar society ideologies, such as masculinity and femininity which are portrayed
through the main characters; Katherine, Kat, Petruchio and Patrick. Some characters show signs of
severe misogynistic characteristics, for example, as the dominant Petruchio tames the dominant
Katherine until she is submissive. To help corroborate with this is the quote For I am be born to tame
you Kate, And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate. Conformable as other household Kates. This
quote proves that he believes Katherine should be like other females and that he wants to control her
until she composes to his

The House
During the two years I lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, I passed by Monticello everyday on my way
from home to school; I finally went up there to visit right before I left the town. Weaving through the
giant plantation around it, the shuttle took us from the foot of the mountain to the hilltop, where the
house rested. The house was relatively small compared to the size of the field surrounding it. Through
several preservation and minor renovation, the floor we stepped on was still the original. I
remembered walking under the house and circling back through all the servants facilities. All the
dependencies were built into the side of the mountain in a U shape. (Figure 6 7) As for the main house
for Jefferson and his family, the plan of the house showed that several rooms, especially the parlor,
were hexagons, for maximizing daylight in the house, which followed the rounded world concept in
the Pantheon. Also related to this sense, the front of the house were never defined. As in Jefferson s
day, visitors today enter through the columned portico of the East Front into the Entrance Hall. West
entrance is more private use for family and guests. But despite the function of the two entrance, there
was no clear frontality or a single façade that dominated the house. Rounded world represented
Jefferson s vision of the world. Tracing back to his early life, he was well known as the third president
of America. Yet in his legendary life, he only put Author of the

Short Term Memory Research Paper
Delayed Free Recall Experiments
Delayed free recall experiments consists of subjects being given a rundown with words or images
following the test of remembering the most words possible afterwards. In the middle of these two
stages, there is a short postponement or interlude, which contrarily impacts the measure of words that
can be recalled. (11)
Short Term Memory Memories are formed through a process of encoding and storing information in
the brain so that it can be easily accessible in future occasions. In order to remember facts, our brains
reproduce a sequence of neural activity that imitates the initial conditions of information storage.
Short term memory (STM), which is activated in free recall experiments, is regarded as the smallest ...

It is selective and prolific not all information is stored by the brain even though the acquisition of data
is continuous. The encoding process entails making associations with previously known facts, which
contributes to the longevity of information. Once an event has been processed by the brain, it is then
stored. This leads to Long Term Memory (LTM) and, consequently, a physical alteration of the brain.
The structure of neurons is changed, and circuits, known as neural networks, are created or
strengthened. Moreover, the production of proteins and the transfer of neurotransmitters to receptors
through synapses, augments and solidifies circuits. With the repetition of such process through the
continuous retrieval of memory, the synapse connections become more efficient and the memory is
hardened. These steps contribute to the consolidation of memories which is essential to learning. The
retention period is also invaluable to the formation of LTM and is a product of time and the occurrence
of no overlaps. If similar pieces of information are processed by the brain, it is likely that one will
interfere with the memorization of the other as the brain becomes distraught and is unable to store
them. The retrieval process is determined by how easily accessible memories are. The more
connections pieces of information have with already stored memories, the faster they can be

Analysis Of The Novel Dracula
Analysis of Dracula Although Dracula was not the first vampire novel, the effect that Bram Stoker s
creation had on the vampire genre is undisputable. At the time, it was written intellectual revelations
during the 19th century had begun to change what people fear. Archaic legends like vampire stories no
longer inspired terror in industrializing areas like Britain. What made Dracula widely successful was
the incorporation of modern themes and anxieties with the renowned archetype of the vampire. By
analyzing what makes Dracula a formidable monster, its becomes apparent what people feared during
that time it was written. This is true for modern adaptations of Dracula and the vampire monster as
well. Movies like Priest (2011) and the television show, The Strain (2014) both have unique twists that
play off modern anxieties. What makes Dracula appealing to me lies in his personality, or lack thereof.
After hundreds of years of being a vampire, Dracula has lost his humanity. He manipulates, charms,
and uses brutal force to live. However, Mina once infected, fights passionately to keep her humanity.
When reading Dracula, I often wondered how I would react if infected, to desperately cling to
humanity, or plunge into the darkness? Vampires are one of the oldest and widespread monster stories
in existence dating back to cultures such as the Mesopotamians, Ancient Greeks, and Romans. These
ancient cultures had myths about blood drinking spirts and demons. Although many specific

Pair Bonding Thesis
Neural Basis of Pair Bonding
Pair bonding is defined as a close relationship between two individuals. To understand the neural basis
of pair bonding it would make sense to consider monogamous species since monogamy is based on
pair bonding. On the other hand polygamy supports mating with several individuals which does not
necessarily support bonding with only one individual. Most of the studies done on pair bonding used a
monogamous rodent, the prairie vole. Prairie voles form a long term bond with their partner after
multiple mating and tend to spend the rest of their life with the same partner. These voles spend more
time with their partner than a stranger vole. This characteristic is considered ... Show more content on

We have already discussed how the importance of vasopressin in social behaviors. Central
administration of vasopressin facilitates monogamous typical behaviors in male prairie voles
through the vasopressin V1a receptors (V1aR) in the brain (Winslow et al., 1993). It would be
interesting to compare how vasopressin activity differs between the monogamous and
polygamous voles. Turns out it is not the amount of vasopressin but the distribution of V1aRs in
the brain which varies considerably between monogamous and promiscuous vole species (Insel
et al., 1994). Lastly to emphasize Vasopressin s role in neural basis of pair bonding, an
experiment done by Lim et al (2004) is included. These researchers did an amazing experiment
to investigate if inserting V1aR gene vole could induce partner preference in polygamous voles.
The vasopressin receptor (V1aR) is highly expressed in Ventral palladium. It is located within
the ventral forebrain, which is a part of limbic system. In this experiment a group of polygamous
meadow voles were used as subjects. Researchers inserted the adeno associated viral (AAV)
vector containing the prairie vole V1aR gene into the ventral palladium. The control voles

  • 2. Underage Drinking On Fridays Young people have continued to consume alcohol especially on weekends. Consequently, young people have continued to experience the aftermath of drinking too much alcohol at the tender age. As a result, most of the countries categorize underage drinking as the leafing problem in public health. Teenagers always find a way to avoid being noticed by their parents. Even though it is their choice, most initially know what they are doing is wrong, but do it anyways. The social choice theory is vital when examining why young people make the decision to drink beer on Fridays when their parents are away. Choice theory is the belief that we are internally, not externally motivated (Coulson, 2013 p.119 122) The choice theory explains how each individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Informative Essay On Alcatraz If I said: It s the site of the first lighthouse on the West Coast and was once a fortress, would you know what famous California landmark I was referring to? Now, what if I included the following details: It has been the subject of numerous books, movies, and much speculation. Al Capone was one of its first guests. Burt Lancaster starred in a movie that was set, in part, here. Naturally, I m talking about Alcatraz Island or The Rock as it s also known. Over a million visitors go to Alcatraz annually, but few arrive knowing the island s complete history. I was one of the people surprised to learn that Alcatraz was more than a former federal penitentiary. Alcatraz was initially a military prison. During the Civil War, Confederate sympathizers and persons accused of treason were held here. In the late 1890s, nineteen Hopi men were incarcerated for resisting laws intended to wipe out their culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alcatraz was considered the prison system s prison, a secure facility where dangerous felons could be housed. The Rock s notorious prisoners included Al Capone and Robert Stroud (whom Burt Lancaster played in the Birdman of Alcatraz). The Rock has the distinction, albeit contested, of being the only prison that no one has ever successfully escaped from. In 1963, three inmates escaped from Alcatraz. The men were never seen again and prison officials claimed that the men died in the cold waters of the San Francisco Bay. The families of the prisoners, however, claimed that they survived. A visit to Alcatraz will demonstrate the difficulty of escape and the complexities of the plot to do so. You ll be able to view the paper mache heads, constructed from toilet paper and cement mix, the escapees put in their beds to fool the guards into believing that they were in their ... • 5. Riggs V. Palmer Case Analysis After Francis B. Palmer murder, the main question that was posed by the court is should a murderer inherit ? There was a disagreement between the judges on how the statute of wills should be applied and interpreted. As a result, Judge Gray made some surprisingly strong arguments that the court is bound by the rigid rules of law , therefore, Elmer should not be denied his inheritance. Unlike the dissenting judge, Judge Earl claims that no one should take advantage of his own unlawful actions. Due to these different perspectives, I will first analyse both judge s decision. Secondly, I will make a claim that Judge Earl s decision was inconsistent and invalidates the written statutory law, therefore, the dissenting judges make a stronger argument. Finally, I will use the Legal Positivism Theory to challenge Judge Earl s Natural Law Theory to support my position. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Palmer case, the court sided with the majority judges on the notion that Elmer should not benefit from his crime. Considering that this maxim was not law, the court s decision was solely based on moral judgement. Even though there was a binding will that granted Elmer the property, the majority believed that the legislators who created the statute of wills did not intend to allow a murderer to inherit under the will. Judge Earl continued to infer that if the case existed at the time of the creation of statutory wills, necessary steps would have been taken to prevent this issue. His argument was based on the fact that Elmer s intention was to commit murder to receive the property, therefore, to give him this benefit would be unfair to the testator and his ... Us Military Drones Essay Jonathan Ortiz March 9, 2013 Computer Class Unit 9 Assignment B US Military Drones It is believed that United States Military Drones are one of the most advanced robotic systems in the world today. According to Historynet.com, it is estimated that there are thousands of these drones, or unmanned military vehicles and aerial devices, in the inventory and care of the US Military (Singer, 2011). Drones are mechanisms and technologies that can be used without the use of a human being inside of the robotic system. In most cases these drones are maneuvered from a distance using remote control apparatuses and are much like the GPS systems that a person might use in their car. The Predator, which is manufactured by the US, which cost up to $11 million per UVA, and the larger, more expensive, more advanced Reaper, cost $30 million per unit. We are known to have over 7,000 drones and most of them (approximately 5,500) are used by the Air Force alone. In 2012, the Pentagon asked Congress for a budget of $5 billion to make and maintain the force of drones (Tomiuc, 2012). Israel does manufacture the world s largest and most advanced drone, the Heron TP Eiten, costing approximately $35 million. This particular drone has a wing span of 26 meters and is the size of a Boeing 737 being able to reach heights of 12,000 feet. It has the ability to stay in flight for about 20 hours at a time (Tomiuc, 2012). While drones are not new news, they have been extremely helpful in our war with other countries thus far. With Iran threatening Israel and the United States, and the recent threats from North Korea to launch pre emptive strikes against the United States and South Korea, drones are again going to be very useful in helping us targeting the missile strikes that are launched at us. As we already have deployed our Patriot Missile Launcher, we are beginning to prepare the drones to take us to the next level if we need to strike back. References: Singer, P.W. The goal is optimal patient outcomes using electronic prescribing. A solution will be reviewed utilizing Epic, a standard electronic health record (EHR) involving the HL7 initiatives. When e prescriptions are utilized in Epic, the medication is checked for interactions with the patient s other medications and allergies. In a case study of 17 physicians in an ambulatory clinic conducted by Abramson et al., error rates from prescribing decreased from 35.7 per 100 prescriptions to 12.2 per 100 prescriptions in a year of e prescribing as reviewed in this study. The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 stated that healthcare providers would have access to EHRs to ensure the meaningful use standards per the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). Meaningful use is attained by increasing the quality of patient outcomes by having access to the medication data, the patient s history, and diagnosis by the prescriber. Prescribing is safer, when the provider is aware of the patient s history, current medications, and allergies, therefore better patient outcomes. In the United States, the HITECH Act and the meaningful use standards stated by CMS have increased the use of e prescribing per Friedman (2009). The CMS made e prescribing a ... • 11. The Jungle And Fast Food Nation Rhetorical Analysis Relevant literature usually addresses real life situations, bringing light to serious issues. Most of the time, an author will write in hopes to influence others to believe a certain way. Authors must strategize to master the art of persuasion. There are multiple appeals a writer may use in order to get their point across to the audience. The Jungle and Fast Food Nation use ethos, pathos, and logos in efforts to gain support towards their purpose of improving the work conditions and quality of life for immigrants. In order to convince an audience through an ethical appeal, a writer would use ethos. Ethos places an emphasis on the credibility of the source. In The Jungle Upton Sinclair writes, In the beginning he had been fresh and strong, and he had gotten a job the first day, but now he was second hand, a damaged article... (Sinclair 90). Jurgis, Sinclair s character, goes from adoring capitalism to despising it. Since he proves to be open minded, his feelings seem less biased. Once the reader observes the vicious cycle Jurgis endures, it becomes difficult to make an argument against him. In Fast Food Nation Schlosser states, We are human beings, more than one person told me, but they treat us like animals (Schlosser 169). Instead of just using a single source, Schlosser uses numerous. The fact that the author is collecting stories from several different people makes the account more believable. • 12. The Declaration Of Rights And Grievances By 1765, at a Stamp Act Congress, all but four colonies were represented as the Declaration of Rights and Grievances was passed. They were determined to let Parliament know that they were equal to British citizens, that there would be no taxation without representation, and all efforts to stop tax on colonists would continue (Kennedy, etal 2011.) Although Lord Rockingham, the predecessor of Grenville, sought to repeal of the Stamp Act, this in no way meant Parliament was conceding their control. In fact, while the Stamp Act was repealed, another called the Declaratory Act of 1766, gave Parliament the authority to make laws binding the American Colonies, in all cases whatsoever. In 1767, George III passed the Townshend Acts to collect tax on glass, lead, paints, paper and, tea. Recognizing that tea was a favorite among the Americans, it ensured greater revenue the British government. Again, the colonists rights for representation were ignored and they started to boycott British goods and ultimately, smuggle tea. When the Quartering Act was passed, which specified that colonists were to give room and board to British troops, tension began to rise. For two years, the colonists tolerated British troops on their soil and their dissatisfaction with the British Parliament and King George III became evident through many violent riots, abusiveness of tax collectors and destruction of property. This has become a huge distraction and it s making people rely on technology way more than is needed, especially the young people. • 36. Advertisers Sell Images Not Products Essay The definition of advertising is outdated. It was previously, to endorse a product and praise goodness to induce the public to buy. They are now brainwashing consumers to buy their products using images to sell the product. The advertiser s aim is to make the product look as good as it can through an attractive image. There are statistics, which I obtained from a Dolly Magazine, 16th May 2000, which proves that one out of four people in Australia buy a product because of the image shown in the advertisment. The images are eye catching and mention something important about the product. Ultimately it is true that, Advertisers sell images, not products. This specifies that these girls live in a perfect and carefree world. This brings me onto the next subject, appeals. Appeals are relating the audience with the product with a story and emotions. The positioning of the advertisements has to be put in spots where they will appeal to a certain audience. 40 50 year old males, teenagers etc. The can be a change from ugly to beautiful miraculously which would appeal to teenagers because at their age they are self conscious. Statistics are also used to appeal to the audience. If the public hears statistics they are instantly drawn in. A perfect example of appealing to an audience is the notorious Nescafe advertisement. This consists of a man and woman who meet each other over a cup of Nescafe. There is emotion involved and this draws the audience in. There is a sequence of ads in this story and the audience is drawn in so much that when there is the nest sequence they are practically glued to the television to know how it ends. One of Xerxes early concerns was Egypt where a usurper had governed for two years. Xerxes used much more aggressive methods than his father Darius. In 484 BC he destroyed the delta and crippled the Egyptians. Xerxes later heard of a revolt in Babylon, where two nationalists had appeared one after the other. The difference that French Marxist cultural critic, Henri Lefebvre makes between absolute and abstract spatiality s is one that clarifies the conflicts in A Good Man is Hard to Find . He said that these spaces are categorized by their relationship (Link 125). One may say that through the eyes of Lefebvre, one can see the spaces of A Good Man Is Hard to Find in a way that relinquishes, diminishing them to the basic constraint of sanctified, regular spaces of beauty, from one viewpoint, and mischievous spaces of current capital on the other. The capacity of this nonexistent structure to uncover the subtle elements of O Connor s spatial talk, and to do as such with regards to the abstracting energy of capital, makes it a profitable supplement to exchanges of her utilization of space. The short story stated that absolute space is made up on Christian fragments of nature (Link 126) existing outside of capitalist relations. Link stated that absolute space is ruled by natural methods such as traditional agrarianism and cultural revealing frameworks grounded in religious acceptance. Link specified that Absolute space isn t greater than abstract space. II. Abstract Space The article states that Theoretical space is the result of a homogenizing power that motive is to make space see through and readable leaving no space for outside voices. The abstraction in the story reduces landscape by separating it from grace. Lefebvre writes Excess, or the incommunicable has no existence in totalizing abstract space (Link 126). Link stated that this residue which remains opaque the transparency of abstract inscriptions of space, is represented by The Misfit, who could be reduced neither to a sentimental good man nor to an obscene killer(Link 126). In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the color green is used to represent the love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. As he grew up and worked for his immense fortune, Gatsby transformed his life into one he felt would impress her the most. Fitzgerald uses the color green to represent Gatsby s perfect image of Daisy, and the greed that engulfs the couple throughout the entire novel. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). For years Gatsby sought a change in his life, and he hoped the change would finally get the love of his life back, but the change he needed was to let himself begin to move on. • 47. Successful Aging Through Participatory Arts Programming... 80 is the new 40: Successful Aging through Participatory Arts Programming for Older Adults The United States is in the midst of a major demographic shift. People are living longer which means that the population of older adults, those sixty years and over, is growing. It is projected that by the year 2040, older adults will far outnumber school age children. Older adults are currently healthier and lead more productive lives than ever before, due in part to modern medicine and the new idea of seeing older people for their potential rather than their problems. This has prompted the concept of creative aging or successful aging. This positive view of aging is not new, only the terminology. Cicero, the Roman philosopher, is perhaps the first to introduce the idea of good aging in his essay, On Old Age which was penned in the year 44 BC. He wrote this essay in his early 60 s to show that old age is not a phase of decline and loss, and if approached properly becomes a time for positive change and productive functioning (Baltes Baltes, 1990). Over the last few decades the subject of successful aging has been the topic of a number of scholarly articles and books and has recently been tied to participatory arts and humanities programming through agencies that provide services to the older adult demographic. As public libraries struggle to remain relevant in today s society and respond to the changing needs of older adult patrons it is important to become more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ENGLISH The Taming of the Shrew , is one of William Shakespeare s most celebrated works in history and is known to be one of his most comedic pieces of literature. With its lighthearted sense of a late 1500 s Elizabethan era work, the famous play showed many relevant ideologies of society according to its particular era in history. Many of Shakespeare s works have been adapted into successful films that were made to suit the society of a new and different age, for example, his piece The Taming of the Shrew , has been formed into several films and short films. In my opinion, it just shows that Shakespeare s writings are still relevant today and forever will be timeless. The most famous remakes of the of the 1500 s play, were Gil Junger s 1999 adaptation 10 Things I Hate About You , and Franco Zeffirelli s 1967 version of The Taming of the Shrew . Both films show elements of similar society ideologies, such as masculinity and femininity which are portrayed through the main characters; Katherine, Kat, Petruchio and Patrick. Some characters show signs of severe misogynistic characteristics, for example, as the dominant Petruchio tames the dominant Katherine until she is submissive. To help corroborate with this is the quote For I am be born to tame you Kate, And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate. Conformable as other household Kates. The House During the two years I lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, I passed by Monticello everyday on my way from home to school; I finally went up there to visit right before I left the town. Weaving through the giant plantation around it, the shuttle took us from the foot of the mountain to the hilltop, where the house rested. The house was relatively small compared to the size of the field surrounding it. Through several preservation and minor renovation, the floor we stepped on was still the original. I remembered walking under the house and circling back through all the servants facilities. All the dependencies were built into the side of the mountain in a U shape. (Figure 6 7) As for the main house for Jefferson and his family, the plan of the house showed that several rooms, especially the parlor, were hexagons, for maximizing daylight in the house, which followed the rounded world concept in the Pantheon. Also related to this sense, the front of the house were never defined. As in Jefferson s day, visitors today enter through the columned portico of the East Front into the Entrance Hall. West entrance is more private use for family and guests. But despite the function of the two entrance, there was no clear frontality or a single façade that dominated the house. In the middle of these two stages, there is a short postponement or interlude, which contrarily impacts the measure of words that can be recalled. (11) Short Term Memory Memories are formed through a process of encoding and storing information in the brain so that it can be easily accessible in future occasions. It is selective and prolific not all information is stored by the brain even though the acquisition of data is continuous. The encoding process entails making associations with previously known facts, which contributes to the longevity of information. Once an event has been processed by the brain, it is then stored. This leads to Long Term Memory (LTM) and, consequently, a physical alteration of the brain. The structure of neurons is changed, and circuits, known as neural networks, are created or strengthened. Moreover, the production of proteins and the transfer of neurotransmitters to receptors through synapses, augments and solidifies circuits. With the repetition of such process through the continuous retrieval of memory, the synapse connections become more efficient and the memory is hardened. These steps contribute to the consolidation of memories which is essential to learning. The retention period is also invaluable to the formation of LTM and is a product of time and the occurrence of no overlaps. If similar pieces of information are processed by the brain, it is likely that one will interfere with the memorization of the other as the brain becomes distraught and is unable to store them. The retrieval process is determined by how easily accessible memories are. The more connections pieces of information have with already stored memories, the faster they can be ... At the time, it was written intellectual revelations during the 19th century had begun to change what people fear. Archaic legends like vampire stories no longer inspired terror in industrializing areas like Britain. What made Dracula widely successful was the incorporation of modern themes and anxieties with the renowned archetype of the vampire. By analyzing what makes Dracula a formidable monster, its becomes apparent what people feared during that time it was written. This is true for modern adaptations of Dracula and the vampire monster as well. Movies like Priest (2011) and the television show, The Strain (2014) both have unique twists that play off modern anxieties. What makes Dracula appealing to me lies in his personality, or lack thereof. After hundreds of years of being a vampire, Dracula has lost his humanity. He manipulates, charms, and uses brutal force to live. However, Mina once infected, fights passionately to keep her humanity. When reading Dracula, I often wondered how I would react if infected, to desperately cling to humanity, or plunge into the darkness? To understand the neural basis of pair bonding it would make sense to consider monogamous species since monogamy is based on pair bonding. On the other hand polygamy supports mating with several individuals which does not necessarily support bonding with only one individual. Most of the studies done on pair bonding used a monogamous rodent, the prairie vole. Prairie voles form a long term bond with their partner after multiple mating and tend to spend the rest of their life with the same partner. Central administration of vasopressin facilitates monogamous typical behaviors in male prairie voles through the vasopressin V1a receptors (V1aR) in the brain (Winslow et al., 1993). It would be interesting to compare how vasopressin activity differs between the monogamous and polygamous voles. Turns out it is not the amount of vasopressin but the distribution of V1aRs in the brain which varies considerably between monogamous and promiscuous vole species (Insel et al., 1994). Lastly to emphasize Vasopressin s role in neural basis of pair bonding, an experiment done by Lim et al (2004) is included. These researchers did an amazing experiment to investigate if inserting V1aR gene vole could induce partner preference in polygamous voles.
