Persuasive Essay Against Gun Violence
GUN VIOLENCE IN THE US
Against The Violence of Guns
In today s society, so many people have hidden guns in their homes, whether it s for protection or
for hunting or any reason and some of these people turn up in the news because their children
somehow got to their gun. News all over the United States cover cases where bullied children or
misunderstood children walk into a school with loaded guns and knowing exactly how to operate
them and have the heart to kill many of their classmates. Often the case, the parents of these young
children had no idea these children even knew where their guns were. In other cases, it is very
easy to find a place where you can purchase a gun without state permit nor prior registration,
facilitating the purchase of these guns. All over the world, guns are as simple to find as gum,
and keeping one around your home is as safe as it is dangerous because it isn t about who has a
gun, its about what they can do with it. Although everyone s reason for owning guns is for safety
only, there are different methods of protection that are safer than having a gun that can cause more
damage than safety, and also many reasons not to own one at all.
Throughout US History, there has been many amendments put in place that have put peoples lives
in danger. The 2nd amendment talks about how people have the right to keep a gun in their house
for a security reasons. This amendment gave way for the militias, who are groups of people who
protected their towns,

Rhetorical Devices In The Declaration Of Independence
In 1776 America s founding fathers decided to separate from their mother country, Great Britain,
and live as independent states. In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson writes that
the United colonies...ought to be free and Independent States, (lines 131 133) after they have
undergone a long string of abuses by King George. As he writes the Declaration of Independence,
Jefferson s purpose is to give reason to the colonists, the King and the foreign worldly powers of
why the colonists feel the need to separate themselves from Great Britain. In the Declaration
Jefferson faces the challenge of persuading his audience that the colonists need to dissolve from
Great Britain, he overcomes this by using rhetorical devices to convince the audience that the
colonists have certain rights the British are not protecting, the colonists have long been abused by
King George and the colonists have tried to reason with the British, but they need to become
independent states. The first part of the Declaration deals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This reluctant conclusion becomes evident when Jefferson states, [The colonists] repeated petitions

actions of the colonists through saying, We have warned them...We have reminded them...We have
appealed...We have conjured them, (lines 116 120) to give his audience further evidence to why
the United Colonies must and will become Free and Independent States, (line 136). States with the

E Tron, Its Nascent Line Of Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Audi launches e tron, its nascent line of hybrid electric vehicles. The Audi A3 Sportback e tron
name is a mouthful. Once you get beyond the lengthy moniker for this unusual plug in hybrid
electric vehicle (PHEV), calling it e tron or A3 e tron seems entirely appropriate. The e tron
designation is an Audi registered trademark, representing this brand s electric and hybrid vehicle
efforts, much in the same way Ford uses Energi to describe its own line of electrified vehicles.
The 2016 Audi A3 Sportback e tron is its initial offering and will be followed by other models.
That the e tron arrived on the market the same year Audi s diesel engines were put on hold due
to parent Volkswagen s emissions scandal seems fortuitous, although sales of this PHEV will
certainly come in at a much lower rate than what the diesel models would have provided.
Nevertheless, Audi s US sales continue to rise despite the EPA s stop sale order for its diesel
engines. Indeed, customers have discovered that the marque s family of gasoline powered
models are a sufficient substitute lower fuel prices across the board has relieved consumer
pressure to find the most efficient cars too. 2016 Audi A3 Sportback e tron The 2016 Audi A3

A Good Time and A Good Idea to Enter the Credit Rating Business
Jules Kroll is planning to enter into the ratings industry. To determine whether it is a good idea
and a good time for him to enter into the new business, we project the 5 year NPV for KBRA and
apply SWOT analysis to KBRA. The 5 year projected NPV is $341.1 million, a positive number. It
is a good time and a good idea for KBRA to enter the business. However, through our SWOT
analysis, it would be difficult for KBRA to become competitive in a short time. Thus we suggest it

Also, without revenues from users of ratings, it will be tougher to finance startup costs and future
operating.
Beside internal factors, we examine the external factors, Opportunities and Threats, of KBRA. The
incumbent credit raters fail in the financial crisis gave an opportunity for new rating agencies like
KBRA. After the financial crisis, the government and the investors realized the importance of
appropriate corporate credit rating. The government might tend to subsidize newly established
rating organizations and create new regulations for credit rating in order to eliminate the oligopoly
of three big financial agencies. KBRA benefits from such environment. Also, it is easier for small
or new rating agencies like KBRA to apply a new revenue model under revised regulations.
After the financial crisis, many new rating agencies announced their entry into the credit rating
business. Many of them were prominent to the public and owned a great quantity of resource. The
entering of new firms made the credit rating industry competitive and thus posed a threat on KBRA.
The Failures of Incumbent Credit Raters
The incumbent credit raters had received severe criticism following the collapse in
creditworthiness and prices of mortgage and asset backed securities during the financial crisis in
2008 and 2009. The three large rating agencies were accused of facilitating a vast bubble in these
securities by issuing overly

China s Tenure on the United Nations Security Council
Introduction From the establishment of China s tenure on the United Nations Security Council
(UNSC) in 1971, Beijing was notorious for taking a hard line against peacekeeping operations .
Between 1971 and 1980, China condemned nearly all UN Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO)
and refused to contribute personnel or financial support. Largely this was due to a firm stance on
respect for state sovereignty, an issue that was crucial to the survival of the PRC. Ideological
differences between the United States and the Soviet Union, coupled with domestic concerns, also
contributed to China s inactive role on the SC. China had suffered greatly during the Cultural
Revolution of the late 1960s and lacked both the financial stability and personnel to contribute to
UNPKO. However, even in this state, China never utilized its veto power to block efforts of
humanitarian intervention. China was afraid that any definitive stance would demonstrate
favoritism on behalf of one of the two superpowers. On over 30 votes throughout the 1970s on
peacekeepingmissions, China remained silent by abstaining from UNSC votes. China in the 1980s
was characterized by the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping. After the death of Mao Zedong, the
new supreme leader of China launched his reform and opening program that drastically overhauled
China s financial sector. China wanted access to world markets for trade, investment, and
technology. For this to happen, China needed to demonstrate to the world its

The Great Leaders Of The Civil Rights Movement
Throughout history, people have made sacrifices, changes, and big decisions that later sometimes
result in something grand. These grand occurrences can either be good or bad. Usually as time
goes on these events and most well known people of this time are highlighted in history classes for
students to learn and to honor those of that time. However, some of the smaller people that
contributed to historical events aren t as highlighted as those that were seen as the big leaders. For
example, in the American Revolution, the people that usually come to mind are George
Washington, Paul Revere, and Thomas Jefferson. What about the people who were injured, scared
and killed because of this bloody war? They seem to be forgotten until they are highlighted once
again. Another example of a person that was not really highlighted for their actions is Nina Simone.
She made an impact on the Civil Right Movement that not many other artist or celebrity would have
done. When you think of the Civil Rights Movementthe first three that come to mind of course
are, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, and Rosa Parks. So, when someone hears the name
Nina Simone the two most common responses might be Who s that? or Oh the singer? . But
what is forgotten is how she, at such a high level, put her reputation at a risk. Nina Simone was a
very well known singer of the 1950s and 1960s especially for her song Feeling Good . She didn t
just use her popularity for fame and money but to express

Vietnam And Its Effects On The United States
Vietnam was originally a French colony located in Indochina. After the end of the First Indochina
War when the French were defeated by the Vietnamese in 1954, the French persisted to obtain their
freedom. They sought to obtain it by signing the Geneva Peace Accords, granting freedom to most
of the colonies but left Vietnamdivided at the seventeenth parallel into two different states. The
northern portion was controlled by the Vietnamese, while the south was controlled by France, later
on by the United States. The Viet Minh, governed by Ho Chi Minh, however were determined to
rule over all the territory surrounding its borders so elections were scheduled hopefully to reunite
the country under a strict Communist government. The Communists had a good probability of
winning the elections due to their superiority in organizations, but the United States did as much as
possible to keep Communism out of the South and other regions prone to falling into it. As the new
Superpowers emerged after the end of World War II, the challenge of maintaining authority over
targeted territory remained, but it was completely challenged by getting involved in the Vietnam
War. The Vietnam War, being one of the longest wars recorded in American History, was also
marked as the first War that made the United States fail with their plans of eradicating Communism
to secure land that could be run by an independent government. Additionally, this war was broadcast
on television, which allowed people to

America s Downward Spiral Summary
America s Downward Spiral
In recent years, the economy in the United States has been in what most would see as a
recession. American people differ in the way they react to a recession. Some, such as Michael
Moore, feel it becomes a downward spiral as big business and it s stockholders gain more money
and power, and it s workers gain less money and stability.
With a loss of stability for the American worker there is a fear of losing their health benefits,
social security, pension plan, and most of all, their job. Moore s reaction to this big business take
over was to create several documentaries, Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint, and

Nike owns factories in Indonesia where they pay their workers forty cents an hour. Johnson
Controls moved from Milwaukee to Mexico, because a half million dollar profit in three years was
not enough for them, they wanted to increase their profit further. (Moore)
As these large companies downsize and close they push hundreds of people out of jobs. This
forces middle class to live below the standards they had been so accustomed to, this is a term not
many are familiar with called downward mobility. This was outlined by Katherine Newman as she
wrote about David Patterson who had a very stable career in the computer industry and one day lost
it and was unable to find work. This forced the family to move from their nice neighborhood to
an apartment. Broke and distressed beyond imagining, the family found a small apartment in a
modest section of a nearby town. (Newman) This being the light side of what happens to those
forced out of work unable to find a new job. Jo Goodwin Parker shares her life story, the ultimate
low, poverty. Poverty means insects in your food, in your nose, in your eyes, and crawling over
you when you sleep. (Parker)
Poverty and downward mobility are unfortunately not the only problems striking the American
working class. It is fact that some jobs are simply not needed anymore. That of the laborer is just
depleting. Some might even call it a dying breed (LaFevre 1) Mike LaFevre is part of the working
class that labors day in and

Giorgio Vasari Research Paper
Then arose new architects who after the manner of their barbarous nations erected buildings in that
style which we call Gothic (dei Gotthi). Florentine historiographer Giorgio Vasari (1511 1574) was
the first to label the architecture of preceding centuries Gothic, in reference to the Nordic tribes that
overran the Roman empire in the sixth century. Vasari implied that this architecture was debased,
especially compared to that of his own time, which had revived the forms of classical antiquity.
Long since rid of derogatory connotations, the label is now used to characterize an art form based
on the pointed arch, which emerged around Paris in the middle of the twelfth century, was practiced
throughout Europe, and lingered in some regions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While most early medieval churches were covered with timber ceilings, many Romanesque
buildings have either stone barrel vaults (i.e., semi circular) or groin vaults (i.e., bays of barrel
vaults crossing at a right angle). Their walls are necessarily thick to counter the outward thrust of
the vault, and they allow only small windows. From 1100 onward, architects experimented with
innovations that, once properly combined, allowed the dissolution of the wall and a fluid
arrangement of space. For example, they adopted the pointed arch, which has a lesser lateral
thrust than the round arch and is easily adaptable to openings of various widths and heights. They
also developed a system of stone ribs to distribute the weight of the vault onto columns and piers
all the way to the ground; the vault could now be made of lighter, thinner stone and the walls
opened to accommodate ever larger windows. Equally important, flying buttresses began to appear
in the 1170s, whose vertical members (uprights) are connected to the exterior wall of the building
with bridge like arches (flyers). These external structures absorb the outward thrust of the vault at
set intervals just under the roof, making it possible to reduce the building s exterior masonry shell
to a mere skeletal

PTSD is an anxiety disorder that some people get after seeing or living through a dangerous
event. When in danger, it s natural to feel afraid. This fear triggers many split second changes in
the body to prepare to defend against the danger or to avoid it. This fight or flight response is a
healthy reaction meant to protect a person from harm. But in PTSD, this reaction is changed or

work for another. It is important for anyone with PTSD to be treated by a mental health care
provider who is experienced with PTSD. Some people with PTSD need to try different treatments
to find what works for their symptoms. If someone with PTSD is going through an ongoing

I got this feeling because of his eyes, in the book it had a symbolic meaning. The symbolic
meaning in the book was that his eyes were cold blue and icy, it lost that meaning in the movie.
Additionally, plot relationships differed between the book and movie. For example, the
relationship between Soda and Sandy was very different in the movie. In the movie, Sandy is
barely mentioned, and nothing is known about Sandy going to Florida and her reason for going.
This has both an effect on the plot and understanding the relationship between Soda and Sandy.
Coppola does not develop these characters in the movie as well as Hinton does in the book.
Overall, director Francis Ford Coppola did a great job of selecting actors to play the roles. Coppola
s pick of C.Thomas Howell, as Ponyboy was a very good pick because I imaged Pony the exact
same as it was described in the book. Also, I liked the flow of the movie and the fact that it was
very similar to the book. Coppola set up the scenes beforehand and made sure that the scenes
closely depicted the action in the book. For example, he made sure that the actors that were
playing the Socs, they had all the best clothing. For the greacers, they only had sweat pants. This
made the actors almost feel like they were back at that time and I think this made the movie a
100% better than it could ve been. All in all, when reading a book and then watching the

Up to 90% of people dream when they fall asleep not only do they dream but also have
nightmares. Not all nightmares will wake a person up or even be remembered but if they are
remembered it usually strikes fear and worry in the dreamers mind. Nightmares and the level of
fear that they possess all depends on the person who is having them because not everyone s fears
are the same thing or are to the same extent. Nevertheless sleep is split into four different stages,
stage one being sleep onset, stage 2 light sleep, stage 3 and 4 deep sleep which can also be known

Israel s Demographic Transition Model
According to table 1.1, Israel s population is increasing at a moderate rate. The nation has a Rate
of National Increase of 13.33. With a life expectancy of 82.27, Israel s population is aging, yet not
to an extreme extent due to a crude birth rate of 18.48. Israel s population pyramid does exhibit
their birth rate, as a significant portion of the populationis generally young. Their population
pyramid does exhibit the effect of WWII and the following search for independence as a Jewish
state, as the elderly population is lower for a nation of Israels status, However, the offspring of
Jewish European migrants is seen in the population pyramid along the middle age ranges.
I expect Israel s population to increase in the future. Statistics in table 1.1 suggest a rise in
population due to the crude birth rate, crude death rate, and long life expectancy compared to world
and surrounding region. Furthermore, I expect immigration to increase Israel s population. Jews in
the surrounding Arab nations may flee to Israel to escape persecution and live in a Jewish state. ...

Snaps product life cycle
I am now going to try to identify the product life cycle stage of
Cadburys snaps, I think that Cadburys snaps is in between two stages: the second stage of its
product life cycle, this stage is known as the growth and development stage and the third stage
which is known as the maturity and competition stage. This is because Snaps have now been
launched in the market and also it has been advertised through the television programme coronation
street, this helps snaps to be well known to the customers and potential customers. Because it is
being advertised the product is in the third stage of its product life cycle advertisement also
increases competition in the market.
How snaps fit in to the Boston Matrix
I think that Cadburys snaps are cash cows in the market as the product is still new to the customers
and it will take time for the snaps to settle into the market

Propaganda Techniques Of Today s Advertising By Ann...
In Propaganda Techniques in Today s Advertising by Ann McClintock, the author discusses how
Americans are being brainwashed by advertisements and the different techniques they use to catch
our attention. Ads are simply everywhere we look, it is impossible to get through the day without
seeing one. All advertisingcompanies put tons of research into how consumers spend money or
even vote. Once these companies finish their research, they create advertisements that appeal to the
masses. The basic propagandatechniques that McClintock writes about are Name Calling,
Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon. Each
one of these propaganda techniques is used in specific ways by advertisers to sell their product or
service to consumers. I have selected a political ad which uses the Glittering Generalities technique,
a coffeead that uses Transfer technique, a soda ad that uses the Testimonial technique, and a soup ad
that uses the Name Calling technique.
First, the political ad I choose used the Glittering Generalities technique in which the Donald
Trump used a certain slogan in hopes to sway voters. In this ad Mr. Trump is telling potential
voters that a vote for him is a vote to take back our country. The phrase used is vague and may not
mean the same to you as it does to me. McClintock states, The ads for politicians and political
causes often use glittering generalities because such buzzwords can influence votes (698).

The Importance Of Religion In Antigone
In literature, authors generally incorporate characteristics of humanity in their work in order to
connect with the readers. For instance, the play Antigone, by Sophocles, is about a young girl
named Antigone who is determined to give her brother, Polyneices, a proper burial after he and her
other brother, Eteocles, die in battle. Antigone s uncle, Creon, the heir to the throne, enforces an
edict prohibiting Polyneices from being buried. In Ancient Greece religion was used as a means
to explain things that were unknown or why certain things happen. Greek gods and goddesses
set moral standards for citizens due to the punishments and consequences they had in store for
those who were treacherous. Essentially, religion had a great impact on many aspects of life
including politics, overall lifestyle, and the theater. These elements are present in Antigone
because in Ancient Greece people went to oracles to reveal their futures and in the play Creon
had an oracle give insight on his future, moreover, citizens, and finally, violence in the theater
was seen as inappropriate and in the play there are numerous scenes that do not demonstrate
violence. One aspect of Ancient Greece that is also present in Antigone is the use of oracles,
who was a priest or priestess who gave citizens advice based on a prophecy. For instance, in
Antigone, Creon has punished Antigone for performing burial rituals on her brother, Polyneices,
whose body has yet to be buried properly, and after he has put Antigone in a cave to imprison her
for her crimes, the blind prophet Tiresias visits him. Tiresias has come to warn Creon of what he
has seen, See it how the city sickens, Creon, these the symptoms, yours the fanatic will that caused
them: dogs and crows all glutted carrying desecrated carrion to the hearths and altars carrion from
the poor unburied son Oedipus... But obscene vultures flap away with crops all gorged on human
flesh (Sophocles237). This prophecy foresees that if Creon does not repent his actions, not
burying Polyneices and punishing Antigone for doing so, his city will face the consequences and
soon he will not have a city nor subjects to rule over. Despite the fact that an oracle sounds like a
fictional character used as a

Christopher Columbus And The Era Of The Americas
Many people think of Christopher Columbus as the person who discovered the Americas.
However, Leif Ericson, a Norseman or Viking, was the first European to see the Americas.
Columbus was born to Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa sometime between
August 25 and October 31, 1451 in Italy near Genoa (Heat Moon 4). Columbus had four other
siblings (Phillips 64). Columbus childhood was a tough one, even though he had a great parental
guidance. Columbus grew up in a medieval world exhausted by war and bigotries, religious
corruption and intolerance, a time of widespread spiritual dissolution and social pessimism, a
continent deeply in need of a rebirth (Heat Moon 5). The era of which Columbus lived in was
really in need of a make over. The way people acted, their decisions, and the changes in their
religion were not acceptable to any standard. That time period was very boring and depressing
and it was difficult to be happy. Christopher spent some of his early years at his father s trade of
weaving and later he became a sailor on the Mediterranean [Sea] ( Christopher Columbus). By the
time he was 31 or 32, Christopher had become a master mariner in the Portuguese Merchant
Service ( Christopher Columbus ). Later in life, Columbus had married DoГ±a Felipa Perestrello o

was granted the finance needed to complete the voyage from Spain ( Christopher Columbus ). He

Moral Dilemmas In Remember The Titans
Good morning Mr Harrop and fellow peers. Today I will be analysing the moral issues and moral
dilemmas in non literary texts, so that we can understand and evaluate how test structures, language
and visual features can be used to influence an audience response. An exemplar of many moral and
ethical dilemmas is shown through popular sport inspiring movie, Remember The Titans (Yakin,
2000) directed by Boaz Yakin. Yakins has a gift for dealing with controversial human issues, by
facing the characters with racism, peer pressure and selfishness. Alongside the writer Gregory Allen
Howard, they have utilized textual structures, language features and visual features to influence the

He seems to want the audience to respond with shock and sympathy as they witness how vile
the black people are treated. One of the few racism dilemma s is shown after Gerry, Alan and
Ray are returned to the high school after coach Yoast stops them from joining the city riots.
Infuriated with the black people fighting back, Gerry instigates the racism and discrimination,
snarling, Hell why don t you just kick em all off the team. I don t wanna play with any of them
black animals. This scene was very effective and coincided with the use of close up camera shots
to enhance Gerry s emotions, whilst reinforcing Yakin s message that black people were treated
poorly and erratically. After Gerry s disastrous car accident, Coach Boone is faced with the moral
dilemma of selfishness. Boone has always been a coach who strives to win, not only for himself,
but for the team, however after the accident, he lacks empathy for the boys and thinks more about
what he wants. When he suggests that the team incorporate more training to cope with the changes
so that they can win, Yoast feels that Boone is being selfish and lacking consideration of the team

Lar gibbon (Hylobates lar), also known as white handed gibbon, belongs to Hylobatidae family

southwest Yunnan, lar gibbons are found in the majority of Thailand excepting the north eastern
areas of the country. (Gron, 2010) The range extends south through southern and eastern
Myanmar but only east of the Salween River. Their habitat was once large and ranged from

The main method of socializing, according to my observation, is grooming. During the two hour
time period, these two gibbons spend almost an hour grooming each other. To be more specifically,
the female gibbon groom, while the male one rest on a tree. What also astonishes me is that the
female groom exactly the same spot on the male body. It might be like what the professor
suggest: grooming may serve way more than the purpose of keeping hygiene because we expect a
larger area of the body to be groomed. It should not for reducing anxiety or heart rate because
humans do not seem to be a threat to them since they see the presence of us every day.
From what I know, fruit forms 50% of their diet. However, the only food they can consume is
grass, which is only about 30% of their diet. They might have adopted this different diet, but it is
certain that they are not the same with wild gibbons anymore. On average, females reproduce for
the first time at about 11 years of age in the wild, much later than in captivity (Gron, 2010). Living

After Japanese ports started to trade with the West, woodblock prints bearing Japanese artwork
were used by European artists for artistic inspirations. The prints were inexpensive and could easily
serve as souvenirs, making significant demand among European artists of the time. The masterful
use of color and imagination made the Ukiyo e prints extremely popular. At the same time, the
characteristics of Japanese art were markedly different from the traditional European forms of
aesthetic expression. The asymmetrical compositions, strong diagonals, elongated figures, and the

Poor Electricity Supply And Lack Of Internet Connectivity
3.1. 3 Poor Electricity Supply and Lack of Internet Connectivity
Lack of constant supply of electricity has also been identified by many researchers as a major
barrier to a successful wider implementation and adoption of EHR in this region (Oluoch, et al.,
2012; Awokola, et al., 2012; Pantuvo et al., 2011). For instance, Awokola and colleagues reported
that for many months, they could not use the EHR consistently because of constant power outage.
On some occasions, the power packs in some central processing units of the table top computers got
damaged and had to be replaced. In addition, Pantuvo et al. (2011) stated that many hospitals in this
region do not have access to constant electricity supply. In fact, many hospitals depend mainly on
the alternative power supply commonly called generator for their operations. Due to the
infrastructure problems throughout the country and lack of guarantee of always on internet
connection or even ensure an uninterrupted electrical supply, nationwide adoption/ wider
implementation of EHR in Nigeria may not be possible (Chaplin et al., 2015). Furthermore, the

Grad School At A Very Good Program
When I met my former fiancГ©, we were both in grad school at a very good program, working
on a mix of loans, grants, and small scholarships to make it through. Neither of us came from
wealthy backgrounds, and our school was very expensive. We took refuge in the fact that we
were the poor kids, surrounded by many wealthy people who did not have to worry about the
same things that we did. And because we were both on the same (very strict) budget, when it
came to things like dating and romance, we had very similar limits for what constituted a couple
s night. I can count on one hand the times we went out to dinner together to a real restaurant, and
our biggest hobby was probably getting creative with ramen recipes and watching our shared
Netflix account. I loved it because it was him, but I admit that I was always envious of the other
students around me who seemed to be able to live the way they wanted, without worrying about
the cost. We both graduated within a year of each other, and both got jobs more or less in our
chosen professions. I became a counselor at a charter school for underprivileged but gifted
students, helping guide them into college and choose the best classes. My ex took a job doing

Mother To Son Tone
Mother to Son is by Langston Hughes and was published December 1922, in Crisis Magazine.
Mother to Son also reappeared in Hughes s first collection of poems called The Weary Blue in
1926. This monologue is delivering a message of hope through imagery. A mother was explaining
to her son that she has faced many challenges in life but she was still set on never giving up and
succeeding in life. The mom wanted to give her son the same advice that although things may get
hard and he may face many challenges and setbacks in life, she proclaimed that he should never
give up.
This poem is based on the idea of hope and reassurance to move on in life, regardless of all the
challenges that may come your way, or no matter how tough life may become. The mother displays
her love for her. The force behind her love is best stated through the idea of never giving up in
life period. The mother is constantly giving guidance and encouragement to her beloved son. The
mother has been faced with many challenges of life, and she wants her son to be brave and
confident in the face of these challenges that may occur and to also succeed in life. The poem
gives insight to the mother past experiences. The poems tone can be one that is best described as
moralizing, heartening, and hopeful. The message is relayed in this poem to the reader through the
conversation between the mother and her son. The mother states, Life for me ain t been no crystal

Toto, Were Not in Kansas Anymore
I was not surprised when I was told we were moving again. Moving from place to place was
something I accepted into my life. My mom always had a good reason to leave and start a new
adventure somewhere else. The whole move happened fairly quickly. Mom made the
announcement while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were
leaving behind for the remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things
rapidly, so the mourning stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct.
Anyway, just after two days of the decision, our house immediately began to be packed up.
Everything we owned had to be stuffed into the smallest amount of boxes possible. When you start
to pack up your room, let alone your whole house, you start to realize how much stuff you really
have. As a nine year old sitting on my bedroom floor, this task seemed impossible to accomplish. ...

The last quality of a scout is usually the hardest to come by as one might guess because of being
on the road for so long. It is tough to keep a family in this job because of time commitments, and
the starting pay can be quite low. Scouts usually report to the director of scouting, and then the
director reports to upper management such as the general manager, assistant general manager,
vice president of global scouting, and director of strategy. It is also possible that scouts and the
director will also be heavily involved with coaches within the organization. The information

teams. These three parts are vital when it comes to winning in the present but also in future

Weintraub catapulted himself to fame and riches by the age of 26. When I Stop Talking You ll

Soon enough, he worked his way up to being a producer and talent agent where he crossed paths
with the great Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was one of Weintraub s greatest act and takes up a large
section of this book. One story involves Sinatra drunk, incoherent, and ready to jump off the
Vegas casino until Jerry came up with an idea to for him to perform in Madison Square Garden
in a boxing ring. A wild idea at the time, but Jerry handled his depression in the best way he could
which was creating a show. This turned out to be his greatest concert. This particular anecdote
teaches a lesson of having a connection to your work and visualizing failure and turning it
around. Along came the highlight of Jerry s career and perhaps the greatest takeaway of When I
Stop Talking You ll Know I m Dead and a story that attracts many to reading this novel. Elvis was
in the prime of his career and had the country astir with his flashy larger than life persona. Jerry
knew he could take this larger to life act and make it even bigger:I started to call... every morning
at 8:30 in the morning. He was always up at 6:00 o clock in the morning. I used to call him every
morning, Good morning, Colonel, this is Jerry Weintraub. I want to take Elvis on

Mass Media And Its Effect On The Air Waves
Mass media distribution has been around since the invention of the printing press. (Gerbner, 1999)
However, broadcast radio presented a higher level of distribution speed to this process and allowed
for an extended reach to consumers. Since its creation, this technology has been controlled by FCC
regulations and advertising support, limiting the freedom of the broadcasters so all of the possible
listeners are happy. Between the government maintenance and listening trends, the range of music
and content on the air waves has been reduced to 5 basic genres. The introduction of the internet
has allowed this medium to once again evolve. The reach has been greatly extended, advertising
made optional and freedom of use increased. This being said, the largest attraction to internet radio
is its ability to be customized by the listener. Historically, the concept of internet radio has been
around since the early 1990s. These broadcasts were still very limited because most of them
were streams from terrestrial radio stations or niche talk shows. Carl Malamud began this
phenomena with a weekly computer talk show, interviewing experts and streaming it openly
online. These types of broadcasts became so popular that The Rolling Stone began playing a
concert over the web as well. This idea would be copied over and over again by every musician and
music producer. As file sharing spread and download speeds increased, issues began to rise between
music streamers and the

Essay On A Touch Of Sin
The movie A Touch of Sin, film by Jia Zhangke is about four independent crimes that happened
in China. In this paper, I will be focusing on two of these stories which are Dahai and Xiaoyu.
Dahai, played by actor Jiang Wu, is former mineworker who is diabetic, doesn t have a regular
job and whose seeking for justice. Xiaoyu played by actress Zhao Tao, who is the mistress of a
business man and who works as a receptionist in a sauna. She is very poised and a good organizer
as she helps her lover bypass Chinese control on Taiwanese citizens for travel in the mainland. I
believe that both Dahai and Xiaoyu were suppressed by their surroundings and the Chinese culture
therefore they ended up killing people.
Dahai was seeking justice throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he killed the guy that called him Mr. golf after asking him about the chief s location, and
this shows that he really does not care anymore and he wants to get rid of anyone who stops in his
way or even just anyone that bothers him. Then he went to the chief and killed him by the temple.
Then he killed the guy that was beating the horse, because beating the horse is an act of violence
and Dahai doesn t desire that. Then he killed Jiao in his car but he was not shown being shot like
the others instead Dahai was on screen with a revenge smile on his face.
We re introduced to Xiaoyu as a woman trying to get a man divorced from his wife.
He offered her to go with him on the train to his city and accept things the way they are, but she
refused and said that she owes an explanation to her parents, which we discover later that they
are separated. This shows that she does care about culture and that she comes from a
conservative family. She went back to the train station and knocked on the window so her
boyfriend opens the door for her but the train moves and she doesn t get to go on it, and I believe
that the problem begins here, because the train leaving means that she missed her chance or
opportunity to be with that man. Then she goes to her work and she gets beaten up for seducing
someone s husband but we don t know if she really seduced him or not because

Working Through The Copper Cycle Experiment
Title: Working through the Copper Cycle Experiment to Gain Understanding
Author Information
Lab Partner: Leah Richmond* and Shelby Alred
Course: CHEM 111 571
Introduction:
During lab, we put the metal copper under different circumstances so that we could gain a better
understanding as to what goes on in the copper cycle. Throughout each stage of the copper cycle,
we deduced what type of chemical reaction took place based on observation, made observations
about the state of the metal and what type of environment it was subjected to, and determined what
the net ionic equation was for each stage. Following the experiment, we calculated what the percent
yield was and compared the changes in mass from the initial stage to the final stage.
Materials and Methods:
First, we assembled a fume hood by using a ring stand, a hot plate, a 50 ml beaker, an iron ring
to secure the beaker, and a plastic funnel hooked up to rubber tubing and an aspirator. A hose
from the sink was then connected to the aspirator and the pressure that the water created allowed
the fume hood to remove whatever excess gas was given off during the experiment. In cycle
step one, we placed approximately 250 mg of copper into the 50 ml beaker then added 6 ml of
HNO_3. We then heated the plate to 10В° C until the reaction took place to save time. We would
recommend heating the plate initially at 20 C in order to speed up the experiment. The solution
was at 11 ml total at the end of step1. In cycle step 2, we

Forced Sterilization And Its Effects On Society
Shortly after the turn of the century, nearly two thirds of states in America enacted laws that
required sterilization of various criminals, mentally ill, epileptics, alcoholics, and sufferers of
poverty (Largent, 2011). All of this effort was exerted to prevent undesirable children from being
born. It was justified by the assumption that unfit people aren t capable of adequate parenting;
therefore their offspring would be a financial burden on society. Strong ideals and dogma were the
weapons chosen by eugenicists to get involuntary sterilizationlegalized.
Depending on who is in power politically at a given time, certain people in society are vulnerable
to abuse. This author will focus on the topic of forced sterilization in America, as there are certain
people in this country that are still coerced and forced into sterilization.
Background
The topic of eugenics is broad in nature and can mean anything from human sterilization,
reproductive genetic technologies (RGT), selective breeding, restrictions on marriage and
withholding assistance from the poor and sick. All of this effort is exerted to protect society from
the unfit, inferior and ultimately to improve the quality of the gene pool (Camporesi, 2015).
Historical perspective
After Charles Darwin published his book On the origins of species in 1859, evolution became a
hot topic of discussion; the notion of the human race improving itself by selective breeding started
to spread (Winfield, 2012). For years

Conspicuous Consumption in Sinclair Lewis Babbit Essay
Conspicuous Consumption in Sinclair Lewis Babbit
The idea of conspicuous consumption, or buying unnecessary items to show one s wealth, can be
seen in Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis. Lewis describes the main character of the book, George F.
Babbitt, as a person who has his values and priorities all mixed up. Babbitt buys the most expensive
and modern material goods just to make himself happy and make people around his aware of his
status. He is more concerned about these items than about his wife or children and to him, god was
Modern Appliances (Lewis 5). Through Babbitt, Lewis is attempting to show how the average
American person will do or buy anything, even if unnecessary, only to show off and make peers

In reality, all one needs in a bathroom is a place to use the restroom, take a shower, and clean up.
But in Babbitt s house the towel rack was a rod of clear glass set in nickel (5). Even the tooth
brush holder, shaving brush holder, soap dish...resembled an electrical instrument board (5).
The Babbitt bedroom was full of things deemed valuable, like toilet articles of almost solid
silver and mattresses which had cost a great deal of money (13 14). Their house had the latest
conveniences such as three plugs for electric lamps and a dining room with its admirable oak
buffet and leaded glass cupboard (14). Babbitt had everything at home and even the very best of
water coolers, up to date, scientific, and right thinking (32) at the office. To him, having all of
this was why his life was worth living. He would buy items of great monetary value, and in return,
his social standing would rise. Lewis wants to show the reader that material possessions are not
everything, and can lead one astray. Babbitt thought he had it all, a nice house, a nice car, all
furnished with the latest objects. What Babbitt did not have, however, was a wife and children who
cared for him and whom he loved with all his heart. His life had no direction and everything
eventually came crashing down on him. Although he had anything and everything a man could want

Analysis Of The Movie Salvatore Gravano
Intro On March 12, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, Salvatore Gravano was born to Giorlando and
Caterina Gravano. As a child he frequently walked with his father and would encounter gangsters
on the streets. Giorlando, his father, would cross the street when encountering such gangsters,
noticing that this had become a routine Sammy asked his father to identify the people. According
to Biography his father replied they are bad people. At the age of ten Sammy s bicycle was stolen
and with the help of local mob members he was able to regain possession of his bicycle and was
awarded the nickname The Bull. Sammy s troubles did not end there, he was also being bullied in
school, the bullying continued until Sammy started fighting those who... Show more content on

The hit was ordered because Speros nephew was romantically linked to Colucci s wife and
wanted to ask for her hand in marriage. Spero saw Colucci as a problem or threat and he decided
that it was best to eliminate Colucci. Gravano, who was ordered to kill Colucci was only twenty
five years old at the time. According to Biography, the killing of Colucci would be Gravano s
making your bones which was the name given to the first assigned hit for those in the mob.
Once Gravano completed the hit successfully he would be on his way to becoming a made
member. Gravano had no qualms, despite Colucci being a friend, about following through with
the hit as he believed in the Cosa Nostra Principles that state when the boss tells you someone
has to go, he goes. At the age of twenty five Gravano made his bones and killed Colucci.
Biography notes that Gravano commented that he could feel the bullet leaving the gun... to take a
man s life did not repel him What was most disturbing was that Sammy comforted the Colucci
family and promised them that he would find who did this to their loved one, all the while
knowing that he was the one who ended Colucci s life. Interesting, following the murder of Colucci
there was a change in the Colombo Crime Family and Sammy joined the Gambino Crime Family. In
1976 Sammy became an official member of La Costa Nostra via Paul Big Paul Castellano, the
boss. As a member of the Gambino Crime Family, Sammy met John

Childhood In Harry Potter
The Heroic Childhood: Joseph Campbell s Hero Characteristics in Rowling s Harry Potter J.K.
Rowling s Harry Potter demonstrates the characteristics of a hero as described by Joseph Campbell
in The Hero With A Thousand Faces. These characteristics are largely demonstrated in the hero s
childhood though they extend through the heros journey. Mostly, the hero must grow up as an
orphan or an outsider and endure a difficult childhood as a result of this. The child s guardians are
often cruel or ignorant of the child s needs. By surviving loneliness the hero will learn kindness and
empathy which will allow him to build important relationships with peers and mentors. The hero s
isolation from the society to which they belong will develop the child s humility and consequently
their ability to ask for assistance. However, the hero must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These childhood events are all important to this development, however the most significant is
the isolation of the hero as an orphan. Not only does this loneliness teach the hero how to be
kind, but the hero learns the value of loyalty. The hero does not have a family to rely on and thus
the friendships built with empathy and loyalty are the most important ones to the hero and his
quest. These friends offer crucial assistance to the hero s success and since the hero has learned
humility from years of hardship he is able to ask for help. Since the hero is an outsider, he does
not benefit from power structures in place, they are more than willing to break apart any biased
societal norms. The hero has a greater insight into unjust societies since they can view them from
outside instead of within. Without the hardships of the hero s childhood they would not develop
heroic characteristics and thus would not be successful in their

party was a third party and an occupant of the vehicle had walked to the residence to summon help.
Dispatch advised there was still one person still in the vehicle.
At approx. 0602 hours, Lewis and I arrived at the scene and I observed the following: One
occupant, an adult white male known to me as John E Ketch, was standing in front of Lewis s
patrol vehicle. As I approached the scene, I observed marks, through my training and experience, I
know are consistent with a vehicle skidding on the roadway, from west to east. I observed a 2001

How Did The Unfit Emperors Lead To The Fall Of Rome
The Western Roman Empire was one of the greatest Empires of the world
In the Western Roman Empire politics was the first contributing factor the fall of it. One of the
many reasons is because of their unfit emperors. They had many. The ones who were unfit, were
greedy and used cruelty to control and keep control of their empire. Not all showed the ability to
be the emperor, some of them inherited the throne, and some of the people who did had a
mentally unstable personality. Some Emperors were assassinated by their Praetorian Guard for
position or money. Once the Praetorian Guard assassinates the emperor, if they had a leader their
leader would become the emperor. As a result of the unfit emperors civil wars broke out across
Rome. Legions fought one another. The citizens of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The empire was to gigantic to protect. They had used natural borders. For example, rivers which
were impossible to protect and control. They also built walls, but they didn t have enough
legionaries to protect them. Roman legionaries became so caught up in salaries and control over
the throne that they lost focus on their jobs. Roman legionaries became weak therefore the
Romans hired Germanic mercenaries. Mercenaries are people who kill in war for people who pay
them. Unfortunately for the Romans they got a mind of their own and turned their backs on the
Romans. Sense the legionaries lost focus on their job, the Germanic tribes found that it was the
best time to attack Rome. When they did they destroyed some of the aqueducts which shortened
the fresh water supply. This was a very smart thing for the Germanic tribes to do because you can
only live without fresh water for less than a week. When the rivers, Rhine and Danube Rivers, froze
it helped the invaders sense they could just walk over it. Which is exactly what helped Germanic
Chief Alaric and Germanic tribes invade Rome and burn it to the ground in 410

News all over the United States cover cases where bullied children or misunderstood children walk into a school with loaded guns and knowing exactly how to operate them and have the heart to kill many of their classmates. Often the case, the parents of these young children had no idea these children even knew where their guns were. In other cases, it is very easy to find a place where you can purchase a gun without state permit nor prior registration, facilitating the purchase of these guns. All over the world, guns are as simple to find as gum, and keeping one around your home is as safe as it is dangerous because it isn t about who has a gun, its about what they can do with it. Although everyone s reason for owning guns is for safety only, there are different methods of protection that are safer than having a gun that can cause more damage than safety, and also many reasons not to own one at all. Throughout US History, there has been many amendments put in place that have put peoples lives in danger. The 2nd amendment talks about how people have the right to keep a gun in their house for a security reasons. • 8. China s Tenure on the United Nations Security Council Introduction From the establishment of China s tenure on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 1971, Beijing was notorious for taking a hard line against peacekeeping operations . Between 1971 and 1980, China condemned nearly all UN Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO) and refused to contribute personnel or financial support. Largely this was due to a firm stance on respect for state sovereignty, an issue that was crucial to the survival of the PRC. Ideological differences between the United States and the Soviet Union, coupled with domestic concerns, also contributed to China s inactive role on the SC. China had suffered greatly during the Cultural Revolution of the late 1960s and lacked both the financial stability and personnel to contribute to UNPKO. However, even in this state, China never utilized its veto power to block efforts of humanitarian intervention. China was afraid that any definitive stance would demonstrate favoritism on behalf of one of the two superpowers. On over 30 votes throughout the 1970s on peacekeepingmissions, China remained silent by abstaining from UNSC votes. China in the 1980s was characterized by the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping. However, some of the smaller people that contributed to historical events aren t as highlighted as those that were seen as the big leaders. For example, in the American Revolution, the people that usually come to mind are George Washington, Paul Revere, and Thomas Jefferson. What about the people who were injured, scared and killed because of this bloody war? They seem to be forgotten until they are highlighted once again. Another example of a person that was not really highlighted for their actions is Nina Simone. She made an impact on the Civil Right Movement that not many other artist or celebrity would have done. Florentine historiographer Giorgio Vasari (1511 1574) was the first to label the architecture of preceding centuries Gothic, in reference to the Nordic tribes that overran the Roman empire in the sixth century. Vasari implied that this architecture was debased, especially compared to that of his own time, which had revived the forms of classical antiquity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While most early medieval churches were covered with timber ceilings, many Romanesque buildings have either stone barrel vaults (i.e., semi circular) or groin vaults (i.e., bays of barrel vaults crossing at a right angle). Their walls are necessarily thick to counter the outward thrust of the vault, and they allow only small windows. From 1100 onward, architects experimented with innovations that, once properly combined, allowed the dissolution of the wall and a fluid arrangement of space. For example, they adopted the pointed arch, which has a lesser lateral thrust than the round arch and is easily adaptable to openings of various widths and heights. They also developed a system of stone ribs to distribute the weight of the vault onto columns and piers all the way to the ground; the vault could now be made of lighter, thinner stone and the walls opened to accommodate ever larger windows. Equally important, flying buttresses began to appear in the 1170s, whose vertical members (uprights) are connected to the exterior wall of the building with bridge like arches (flyers). These external structures absorb the outward thrust of the vault at set intervals just under the roof, making it possible to reduce the building s exterior masonry shell to a mere skeletal ... This is because Snaps have now been launched in the market and also it has been advertised through the television programme coronation street, this helps snaps to be well known to the customers and potential customers. • 23. Propaganda Techniques Of Today s Advertising By Ann... In Propaganda Techniques in Today s Advertising by Ann McClintock, the author discusses how Americans are being brainwashed by advertisements and the different techniques they use to catch our attention. Ads are simply everywhere we look, it is impossible to get through the day without seeing one. All advertisingcompanies put tons of research into how consumers spend money or even vote. Once these companies finish their research, they create advertisements that appeal to the masses. The basic propagandatechniques that McClintock writes about are Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon. Each one of these propaganda techniques is used in specific ways by advertisers to sell their product or service to consumers. I have selected a political ad which uses the Glittering Generalities technique, a coffeead that uses Transfer technique, a soda ad that uses the Testimonial technique, and a soup ad that uses the Name Calling technique. First, the political ad I choose used the Glittering Generalities technique in which the Donald Trump used a certain slogan in hopes to sway voters. In this ad Mr. Trump is telling potential voters that a vote for him is a vote to take back our country. The phrase used is vague and may not mean the same to you as it does to me. McClintock states, The ads for politicians and political causes often use glittering generalities because such buzzwords can influence votes (698). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Importance Of Religion In Antigone In literature, authors generally incorporate characteristics of humanity in their work in order to connect with the readers. For instance, the play Antigone, by Sophocles, is about a young girl named Antigone who is determined to give her brother, Polyneices, a proper burial after he and her other brother, Eteocles, die in battle. Antigone s uncle, Creon, the heir to the throne, enforces an edict prohibiting Polyneices from being buried. In Ancient Greece religion was used as a means to explain things that were unknown or why certain things happen. Greek gods and goddesses set moral standards for citizens due to the punishments and consequences they had in store for those who were treacherous. Essentially, religion had a great impact on many aspects of life including politics, overall lifestyle, and the theater. These elements are present in Antigone because in Ancient Greece people went to oracles to reveal their futures and in the play Creon had an oracle give insight on his future, moreover, citizens, and finally, violence in the theater was seen as inappropriate and in the play there are numerous scenes that do not demonstrate violence. One aspect of Ancient Greece that is also present in Antigone is the use of oracles, who was a priest or priestess who gave citizens advice based on a prophecy. For instance, in Antigone, Creon has punished Antigone for performing burial rituals on her brother, Polyneices, whose body has yet to be buried properly, and after he has put Antigone in a cave to imprison her for her crimes, the blind prophet Tiresias visits him. Tiresias has come to warn Creon of what he has seen, See it how the city sickens, Creon, these the symptoms, yours the fanatic will that caused them: dogs and crows all glutted carrying desecrated carrion to the hearths and altars carrion from the poor unburied son Oedipus... But obscene vultures flap away with crops all gorged on human flesh (Sophocles237). This prophecy foresees that if Creon does not repent his actions, not burying Polyneices and punishing Antigone for doing so, his city will face the consequences and soon he will not have a city nor subjects to rule over. However, Leif Ericson, a Norseman or Viking, was the first European to see the Americas. Columbus was born to Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa sometime between August 25 and October 31, 1451 in Italy near Genoa (Heat Moon 4). Columbus had four other siblings (Phillips 64). Columbus childhood was a tough one, even though he had a great parental guidance. Columbus grew up in a medieval world exhausted by war and bigotries, religious corruption and intolerance, a time of widespread spiritual dissolution and social pessimism, a continent deeply in need of a rebirth (Heat Moon 5). The era of which Columbus lived in was really in need of a make over. The way people acted, their decisions, and the changes in their religion were not acceptable to any standard. That time period was very boring and depressing and it was difficult to be happy. Christopher spent some of his early years at his father s trade of weaving and later he became a sailor on the Mediterranean [Sea] ( Christopher Columbus). By the time he was 31 or 32, Christopher had become a master mariner in the Portuguese Merchant Service ( Christopher Columbus ). Boone has always been a coach who strives to win, not only for himself, but for the team, however after the accident, he lacks empathy for the boys and thinks more about what he wants. When he suggests that the team incorporate more training to cope with the changes so that they can win, Yoast feels that Boone is being selfish and lacking consideration of the team s loss, so confronts him with the questions Is this even about football anymore? The introduction of the internet has allowed this medium to once again evolve. The reach has been greatly extended, advertising made optional and freedom of use increased. This being said, the largest attraction to internet radio is its ability to be customized by the listener. Historically, the concept of internet radio has been around since the early 1990s. Then he killed the guy that called him Mr. golf after asking him about the chief s location, and this shows that he really does not care anymore and he wants to get rid of anyone who stops in his way or even just anyone that bothers him. Then he went to the chief and killed him by the temple. Then he killed the guy that was beating the horse, because beating the horse is an act of violence and Dahai doesn t desire that. Then he killed Jiao in his car but he was not shown being shot like the others instead Dahai was on screen with a revenge smile on his face. We re introduced to Xiaoyu as a woman trying to get a man divorced from his wife. He offered her to go with him on the train to his city and accept things the way they are, but she refused and said that she owes an explanation to her parents, which we discover later that they are separated. This shows that she does care about culture and that she comes from a conservative family. She went back to the train station and knocked on the window so her boyfriend opens the door for her but the train moves and she doesn t get to go on it, and I believe that the problem begins here, because the train leaving means that she missed her chance or opportunity to be with that man. • 43. Working Through The Copper Cycle Experiment Title: Working through the Copper Cycle Experiment to Gain Understanding Author Information Lab Partner: Leah Richmond* and Shelby Alred Course: CHEM 111 571 Introduction: During lab, we put the metal copper under different circumstances so that we could gain a better understanding as to what goes on in the copper cycle. Throughout each stage of the copper cycle, we deduced what type of chemical reaction took place based on observation, made observations about the state of the metal and what type of environment it was subjected to, and determined what the net ionic equation was for each stage. Following the experiment, we calculated what the percent yield was and compared the changes in mass from the initial stage to the final stage. Materials and Methods: First, we assembled a fume hood by using a ring stand, a hot plate, a 50 ml beaker, an iron ring to secure the beaker, and a plastic funnel hooked up to rubber tubing and an aspirator. A hose from the sink was then connected to the aspirator and the pressure that the water created allowed the fume hood to remove whatever excess gas was given off during the experiment. In cycle step one, we placed approximately 250 mg of copper into the 50 ml beaker then added 6 ml of HNO_3. We then heated the plate to 10В° C until the reaction took place to save time. We would recommend heating the plate initially at 20 C in order to speed up the experiment. The solution was at 11 ml total at the end of step1. In cycle step 2, we ... • 44. Forced Sterilization And Its Effects On Society Shortly after the turn of the century, nearly two thirds of states in America enacted laws that required sterilization of various criminals, mentally ill, epileptics, alcoholics, and sufferers of poverty (Largent, 2011). All of this effort was exerted to prevent undesirable children from being born. It was justified by the assumption that unfit people aren t capable of adequate parenting; therefore their offspring would be a financial burden on society. Strong ideals and dogma were the weapons chosen by eugenicists to get involuntary sterilizationlegalized. Depending on who is in power politically at a given time, certain people in society are vulnerable to abuse. This author will focus on the topic of forced sterilization in America, as there are certain people in this country that are still coerced and forced into sterilization. Background The topic of eugenics is broad in nature and can mean anything from human sterilization, reproductive genetic technologies (RGT), selective breeding, restrictions on marriage and withholding assistance from the poor and sick. All of this effort is exerted to protect society from the unfit, inferior and ultimately to improve the quality of the gene pool (Camporesi, 2015). Historical perspective After Charles Darwin published his book On the origins of species in 1859, evolution became a hot topic of discussion; the notion of the human race improving itself by selective breeding started to spread (Winfield, 2012). • 45. Conspicuous Consumption in Sinclair Lewis Babbit Essay Conspicuous Consumption in Sinclair Lewis Babbit The idea of conspicuous consumption, or buying unnecessary items to show one s wealth, can be seen in Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis. Lewis describes the main character of the book, George F. Babbitt, as a person who has his values and priorities all mixed up. Babbitt buys the most expensive and modern material goods just to make himself happy and make people around his aware of his status. He is more concerned about these items than about his wife or children and to him, god was Modern Appliances (Lewis 5). Through Babbitt, Lewis is attempting to show how the average American person will do or buy anything, even if unnecessary, only to show off and make peers think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality, all one needs in a bathroom is a place to use the restroom, take a shower, and clean up. But in Babbitt s house the towel rack was a rod of clear glass set in nickel (5). Even the tooth brush holder, shaving brush holder, soap dish...resembled an electrical instrument board (5). The Babbitt bedroom was full of things deemed valuable, like toilet articles of almost solid silver and mattresses which had cost a great deal of money (13 14). Their house had the latest conveniences such as three plugs for electric lamps and a dining room with its admirable oak buffet and leaded glass cupboard (14). Babbitt had everything at home and even the very best of water coolers, up to date, scientific, and right thinking (32) at the office. To him, having all of this was why his life was worth living. He would buy items of great monetary value, and in return, his social standing would rise. Lewis wants to show the reader that material possessions are not everything, and can lead one astray. Babbitt thought he had it all, a nice house, a nice car, all furnished with the latest objects. What Babbitt did not have, however, was a wife and children who cared for him and whom he loved with all his heart. His life had no direction and everything eventually came crashing down on him. Although he had anything and everything a man could want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Childhood In Harry Potter The Heroic Childhood: Joseph Campbell s Hero Characteristics in Rowling s Harry Potter J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter demonstrates the characteristics of a hero as described by Joseph Campbell in The Hero With A Thousand Faces. These characteristics are largely demonstrated in the hero s childhood though they extend through the heros journey. Mostly, the hero must grow up as an orphan or an outsider and endure a difficult childhood as a result of this. The child s guardians are often cruel or ignorant of the child s needs. By surviving loneliness the hero will learn kindness and empathy which will allow him to build important relationships with peers and mentors. The hero s isolation from the society to which they belong will develop the child s humility and consequently their ability to ask for assistance. However, the hero must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These childhood events are all important to this development, however the most significant is the isolation of the hero as an orphan. Not only does this loneliness teach the hero how to be kind, but the hero learns the value of loyalty. The hero does not have a family to rely on and thus the friendships built with empathy and loyalty are the most important ones to the hero and his quest. These friends offer crucial assistance to the hero s success and since the hero has learned humility from years of hardship he is able to ask for help. Since the hero is an outsider, he does not benefit from power structures in place, they are more than willing to break apart any biased societal norms. The hero has a greater insight into unjust societies since they can view them from outside instead of within. Some Emperors were assassinated by their Praetorian Guard for position or money. Once the Praetorian Guard assassinates the emperor, if they had a leader their leader would become the emperor. Roman legionaries became so caught up in salaries and control over the throne that they lost focus on their jobs. Roman legionaries became weak therefore the Romans hired Germanic mercenaries. Mercenaries are people who kill in war for people who pay them. Unfortunately for the Romans they got a mind of their own and turned their backs on the Romans. Sense the legionaries lost focus on their job, the Germanic tribes found that it was the best time to attack Rome. When they did they destroyed some of the aqueducts which shortened the fresh water supply. This was a very smart thing for the Germanic tribes to do because you can only live without fresh water for less than a week. When the rivers, Rhine and Danube Rivers, froze it helped the invaders sense they could just walk over it.
