Bureaucracy Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of bureaucracy is no small feat. The subject itself is a labyrinth of
intricacies, entangled in a web of organizational structures, rules, regulations, and administrative
complexities. Delving into the world of bureaucracy requires a meticulous exploration of its
historical evolution, theoretical foundations, and practical manifestations across different
contexts.
One of the primary challenges lies in navigating through the vast array of perspectives and
scholarly debates surrounding bureaucracy. As you embark on the journey of researching and
writing, you will encounter a multitude of theories, ranging from Max Weber's classical model to
more contemporary critiques and alternatives. Each perspective demands careful consideration,
analysis, and synthesis into a cohesive narrative that not only conveys a comprehensive
understanding but also engages the reader in a meaningful discourse.
Moreover, addressing the inherent tensions and contradictions within bureaucratic systems adds
another layer of difficulty. Balancing the perceived efficiency of bureaucracies with concerns
about red tape, rigidity, and the potential for stifling innovation requires a nuanced approach.
Unraveling the impact of bureaucracy on individuals, organizations, and society as a whole
demands critical thinking and a keen awareness of the broader socio-political context.
Organizing and structuring the essay poses its own set of challenges. Attempting to create a
logical flow that seamlessly transitions between historical context, theoretical frameworks,
empirical evidence, and personal insights is akin to navigating a complex maze. Achieving
coherence and clarity while presenting a sophisticated analysis requires a careful selection of
evidence and an artful integration of ideas.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of bureaucracy is a formidable task that demands not
only a deep understanding of the subject matter but also a high level of analytical and
organizational skills. However, with dedication, thorough research, and a thoughtful approach,
one can navigate the complexities of bureaucracy and produce an insightful and compelling
essay.

The Pros And Cons Of Mortgage And Brokers
The terms mortgage and broker can have different impacts on laymen and
professionals. While obtaining a loan is always noteworthy and significant in
everyone s life, you need to know that there are people who form the bridge or loop
between the lender and the borrower. Their job is to negotiate the concerned loanon
your behalf. These people called mortgagebrokers, are primarily middlemen knitting
homeowners with the mortgage lenders and the financial institutions. They operate in
tandem with both bank and the concerned lenders or consumers. Their prime motive
is to help you qualify for a loan. It can be refinancing some previous stuff or buying
mortgage.

They can also do the loan hunting on your behalf, which is justifiably a great way
to bag a good deal. If you do it yourself, it d consume a lot of time because you need
to contact various lenders and banks.
You need to know that mortgage brokers have perpetual and regular contact with a
large pool of lenders. They are good alternative to your own toil as they can rid you
of the drudgery of finding a good lender and saves a lot of legwork.
More often, these brokers can guide you against some unscrupulous lenders who
conceal onerous and anomalous payment aspects in their mortgage contracts.
They search an extensive assortment of loans from various lenders in a short time and

Confucian Scholar Dong Zhongshu And The Mandate Of
Heaven
Confucian historical texts provide pragmatic solutions to political projects, although
they operated in a culture that was seasoned with value laden principles from a
hybridization of Confucian, Daoist, and Buddhist schools of thought. This paper
focuses on the Confucian Scholar Dong Zhongshu; specifically, I will analyze his
thoughts on the Mandate of Heaven, the connection between the state human body,
and his expectations of rulership. As I proceed with this analysis, I will demonstrate
that Dong Zhongshu had a pragmatic political motive with his desire to be a member
of educated elites known as the junzi. To begin with, I press the rhetorical: question
was Dong Zhongshu a philosopher or an aspiring civil servant with philosophic
tendencies?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay builds on what he has already said on the importance of the Mandate of
Heaven. Section one of the essay speaks to it being the role of the ruler to know
the true substance of things which Dong Zhongshu refers to as the practice of
eliminating obstructions (DeBary pp. 298 300). Rulers do this by becoming the
foundation of all state policy. Leading well necessitates a balance of virtue in
between two extremes. Having the responsibility to lead is a heavy burden that
mirrors the character of the ruler. Section two on responsibilities of rulership delves
deeper into the character of rulership. At this point Dong Zhongshu has established
that the heart of any successful state is the virtuous rulership of a sage leader
(DeBary pp. 298 300). Through the ruler the people either for better or for worse
transformed nevertheless that transformation is disseminated by the ruler. Sage rulers
will lead by strong example with inspiration derived from the three foundations of
heaven, earth and humankind. Reflecting on all of that it is apparent to me at least
that what we can see Dong Zhongshu doing in his essay concerning the
responsibilities of rulership advocates for the rulership, propagating political
influence by means of Confucian justification. Once again reiterating the point that to
oppose the rulership is to oppose the heavens. By fusing cosmology with the

Narrative Tensions In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak
From reading Markus Zusak s The Book Thief, there is no denying that he is a
great writer; in his book he shows all three narrative tensions, but mostly shows
uncertainty because you never know what s around the corner. When first reading
this book every page I turned the more uncertainty there was, for example, what
was going to happen now that she lost her brother and biological mother within the
same week? Having these mysteries everywhere in this book make a reader want
to keep reading because they are uncertain as to what is going to happen to this
character throughout the whole book. Uncertainty and Anticipation in a way fall
in the same category, both make a reader want to read on and find out more; like
said earlier, Markus is a profound author because he knows how to get people
involved with the story, feel emotions, to want more. He shows his talents
throughout the entire book; and it works because people want to read more and

understand the plot, or solve the mysteries as in, just what is going to happen.... Show

Esther means star. Esther became queen in 479 B.C. The key personalities are Esther,
Mordecai, King Ahasuerus (or Xerxes), and Haman.
Its purpose is to demonstrate God s love and sovereignty in all circumstances. It is a
post exile story about Jews who stayed behind after most returned to Jerusalem after
the captivity. Babylon was conquered by Persia and Esther miraculously becomes the
queen of the land, and saves her people.
In chapter 1 2, Esther becomes the queen of Ahasuerus of Persia. She was personally
chosen by the King. The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found
favor and kindness with him (2:17), probably because of her beauty and intelligence.
Chapters 3 4, Mordecai (Esther s guardian) refused to bow down and pay homage
to Haman a high official of the king. Haman becomes infuriated and plots to
destroy all the Jews in the kingdom because of his pride. Mordecai hears of the plot
and reports it to his Esther. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and
deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father s
house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a
time as this?
Legal Prostitution in the United States Essay
It is rather odd to think that prostitution, which is considered to be the world s oldest
profession, would be illegal and harmful in nature. The issue of legalizing prostitution
has entered public conversation around the world, which is severely divided. Many,
like myself, consider prostitution to be a victimless crime. Despite such opposition to
legalizing prostitution, many argue that legalizing it would result in decreased
morality issues, increase the economic activity in the United States, and help decrease
the number of sexually transmitted diseases among both prostitutes and those who
patronize them, The most common argument against the legalization of prostitution
is that it establishes sexual immorality. The prostitute,... Show more content on

The United States nor virtually any other country has ever been plagued with the
problem of too little population growth, also it is not a threat to institution of family.
What is left of the moralist argument is that prostitution is wrong morally, only by
the religious faith. This point cannot be logically rejected; it must simply be accepted
or rejected as an assertive statement. Given that prostitution will continue to flourish
in the United States, there are many people who do not accept the religious
disapproval and many more who are not willing to pay for the enforcement of these
religious rules.
Another argument to legalize prostitution would to be to regulated it, and take the
woman off the street and place her into a safe environment, for instance: women
who are in brothels in Nevada are screened monthly for STD s and are given birth
control. Sexually transmitted diseases are a major concern for the women as well as
the men and should be a major reason why legalization of prostitution should be
pushed. Legalized prostitution has shown that prostitutes who work in brothels
practice safe sex and are less likely to contract and transmit STDs. As indicated in the
article entitled, Prostitution : George Flint, director of the Nevada Brothel
Association, points with pride to the 20,000 monthly AIDS tests that have been
performed on legal prostitutes since tests were required in 1986, with HIV showing
up only among job applicants. Similarly, not a
Private Schools Vs. Public Schools Essay
In the United States, getting an education is very important. Children spend thirteen
years of their life learning English, history, math, science, and various other subjects
so that they may one day be a productive college student or a working class citizen.
In fact, There are 33,619 private schools in the United States, serving 5.4 million PK
12 students. Private schools account for 25 percent of the nation s schools and enroll
10 percent of all PK 12 students ( Council for American Private Education). Parents
face many issues when deciding which school is right for their child. However, the
factors that determine their choice of a private or public schoolare often the results of
various essentials that closely mirror the parent s ideology in regards to education.
Parents should send their children to a private schoolbecause private schools have
smaller class sizes, the curriculum is more challenging, and the school environment is
much safer than public schools.
Smaller class sizes are a pivotal reason as to why parents should send their children
to private school. Private schools have smaller class sizes, which allow for more
individualized instruction on various subject matters, and they improve student
teacher relationships. For instance, Small classes allow teachers to give students
more individual attention and lighten the teacher s workload, and therefore are
generally considered desirable (Choy 14). Subsequently, by having a smaller class
size, a student

The Domestic Work Of African American Women
United States southeast region can be described as unique when it comes to its
economic system and its social structure due to the multiple political and
constitutional problems these structures have created. The most important factor of
these problems raised could be said that was the social structure, regarding the
interaction between the different social groups of this southeastern community. From
the conflicts that aroused between the different White European settlers, to the
adjustment of the African Americans to labor, the southerner society, or community,
was created. The commodification of the domestic work of African Americanwomen
affected in great ways their performance in white households, as well as their
portrayal in advertisements, where they were shown to be a need to white
southerners during the 1920 s. Although these advertisements approached the public
with the idea that domestic work was a necessity, the advances in society made of
their work one that day by day became less needed.
The problems of race the United States confronted are deeply imbedded in the
historical past of the nation. Due to the fact that a great majority of the nation s
African Americans lived in former slave states, white southerners constantly came up
new ways to impose white supremacy on their black neighbors. Consequently, black
southerners fought back against unequal treatment, discrimination, and the violent
white people who executed racial massacres. After the
Dodge Charger Masculinity
The viral Dodge Charger Man s Last Stand (2010) commercial illustrates the loss of
masculinity. It aims to reassert a man s right to control and domination in society
through material consumption with blatant sexist messages. Additionally, it
highlights cultural, economic and social structures as the root cause of the loss of
masculinity.
The commercial presents close ups of ethnically diverse men, positioned in the
bedroom, the kitchen and the living room. Each of the males is motionless while a
narrator criticizes the day to day activities that males undertake. For example, the
narrator says, I will walk the dog at 6.30 AM (Dodge Charger, 2010, 0:01). The most
basic responsibilities, cleaning up after oneself, are offered as arbitrary ... Show more

In the closing scene, the man in the fitted suit utters with anger, I will carry your lip
balm (Dodge Charger, 2010, 0:34). Notably, in this scene, the viewer can sense the
rage through the raised eyebrow and the intensity of the eyes. This is a symbol that
Goffman associates to male aggression and power (Jhally, 2009). The men are
presenting themselves as expected of them society. Hence, the commercial is
illustrating what Goffman calls commercial realism (Jhally, 2009). Since the viewer
tries to resist the advertisements, this commercial is quick and effective, and thus
uses codes of gender display because they are familiar to us all (Jhally, 2009).
Evidently, the commercial aims at depicting men as metrosexual or rather intruded by
the everyday activities to reinforce the features of masculinity: active, aware of the
world and in charge of their surroundings. This point echoes Sean Nixon s genealogy
of the development (1996) of how the representational practice of masculinity is
derived from fashion (metrosexual imagery) and advertising (masculine features)
(Gill, forthcoming, para 8). Additionally, this is furthered by Gill s reflection on
Foucault s ideas on all identities are socially constructed and non essential
(forthcoming, para 8). On that condition, the men must engage with the dominant
masculine identities that are portrayed by the
The Polarity Of College Students
Digital Age
The Polarity of College Students
Back in my days, we were not fortunate enough to... Gotcha! Did you expect that to
be a dull story like our grandparents or parents may have told to show us how much
more difficult their lives were? Not exactly, this writing is about how college students
of this generation make use of digital technology. The wide spread of today s
technology via computers or smartphones results in constant connectivity to the
internet. Social media, video gaming, information databases, and online classes, have
affected college students studies. As a result, more students are being distracted,
making a wider academic gap with self disciplined students. Most college students
use a computer at home and/or a smartphone, a more compact, mobile version of a
computer. Thanks to the mobility of smartphones that makes them ubiquitous,
accessing the internet is effortless. Frequently, I observe students dotting all over the
campus interacting with their smartphones. As observed by Clive Thompson, author
of Smarter Than You Think, our tools are everywhere, linked with our minds,
working in tandem (p.347). In other words, we are likely to be using our computers
all the time. We use our computers whenever we have a chance. In particular,
students from my writing class opt to use their smartphones during our short ten
minutes break. Author of Is Google Making Us Stupid? Nicholas Carr shares a

Electric cars are better than gas cars because electric cars make less noise than gas
cars when driving. The engines of electric cars make almost no noise, which the
engineers have been perfecting for about 10 years now. The only sound you can
hear is probably the hum of tires on the road when driving. On the other hand, the
amount of noise inside a gas car can be as loud as 75 80 decibels. Electric cars are
also better than gas cars because electric cars have low cost maintenance costs
because electric cars do not need oil changes and it does not need oil for the engine
to run.
Electric cars can also save you money because they do not need gas, but people still
say that Electric cars are so much more expensive to buy. For example, the 2011

approximately $10,057. For the same mileages on a LEAF will cost only $3,000

High-Stakes Testing, the Standardized Classroom, and the...
The world s greatest problems do not result from people being unable to read and

and nations being unable to get along and to work together to solve the world s
problems. These statements by James A. Banks have made a profound impact on my
view towards multicultural educationand the nation s current trend of standardization
and high stakes testing. Scholarly research shows that the emphasis placed on testing
and standards, mandated by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, is causing
teachers to focus entirely on basic skills in reading, writing, and math (Banks Banks,

Thus, when AYP is based on academic achievement levels, the subgroup rules create
negative unintended consequences for the students they were designed to help, by
disproportionately subjecting racially diverse schools to sanctions under NCLB. This
consequence also threatens to increase the growing dropout and push out rates for
students in these sub groups (Darling Hammond, 2007).
This paradox is not just affecting low income and minority students, but also students
in non minority groups as well. When there is no time for focus on skills that students
need to participate in social change, these students will not learn to question practices
within society or to work with other students from all different groups and
backgrounds in order to effect change. Classes in schools which may contribute to
multicultural education, such as social studies and foreign language, are being cut
completely in order to spend more time on reading and math (Au, 2009). According to
Au (2009), since multi cultural anti racist perspectives and content are not deemed

Similarities Between Frankenstein And Othello
A well written tragedy evokes a visceral reaction in the audience and transcends time.
Tragedies develop the morality of readers by demonstrating the consequences of
flawed choices made by the characters in the literary work. People in power, expected
to have high standards of behaviour, can have errors in judgment that lead to
disastrous results. Individuals transform into society s perception of them, turning
their appearance into reality. The subjugation of women creates social imbalances
which cause their own untimely demise. All of these points are evident in the
tragedies Othello by William Shakespeare and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Figures of authority in Shakespeare s play have vices that Iago exploits to achieve
the death of Othello. For example, Brabantio, a senator, believes that the idea of
his daughter loving a man of colour is [f]or nature so preposterously to err (1.3.
62). His implication that it is unnatural for a white woman to desire a black man
reveals that his flaw is a prejudiced mindset. Iago uses Brabantio s racist mentality to
his advantage when he provokes Brabantio s anger about Othello s and Desdemona s
marriage. This results in Desdemona leaving with Othello when he moves to Cyprus,
allowing for Iago s machinations to culminate in the unwarranted deaths of Othello,
Desdemona, Emilia, Cassio, and Roderigo. Shelley s novel on the other hand
questions people in power by replacing traditional figures of authority with
Frankenstein, a flawed character, leading to multiple deaths. Frankenstein becomes,
capable of bestowing animation upon lifeless matter as he continues his obsession
with the occult sciences (Shelley 37). The ability to create life results in Frankenstein
simultaneously replacing the role of God and parents in procreation. This usurpation
has disastrous ramifications. The progeny is born a monster in the literal sense since
it is an aberration of nature, demonstrating the repercussions of playing God. It
becomes a monster in the figurative sense as proven through the murders it commits.
This is because of the absence of a loving figure to look after it, which shows the
consequences of replacing parents. Both authors use the tragedy that ensues from the
authority figure s flaws to challenge society s faith in the competency of figures of
power. However, the authors achieve this by using different themes. In Othello,
manipulation is prominent in the questioning of those in command, while
Frankenstein delivers the same
Symptoms And Symptoms Of Cushing s Syndrome
Abstract Cushing s syndrome is an endocrine disorder resulting from excess levels of
cortisol in the blood. The etiology can be exogenous or endogenous, which can be
further broken down into adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) dependent and
independent. The pathogenesis of Cushing s syndrome depends on the cause, and
generally results in the disruption of the normal functioning of the hypothalamic
pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis. Cushing s syndrome is characterized by a variety of
signs and symptoms, and treatment varies depending on the etiology. Currently
research is being conducted on diagnostic tests for this disorder.

Endogenous Cushing s syndrome results when the high levels of cortisol originate
from within the body. The most common causes of endogenous Cushing s syndrome
are adrenal, pituitary or ectopic tumours. These tumours lead to a disruption of the
normal functioning of the HPA axis. Exogenous Cushing s syndrome results when
the high levels of cortisol in the blood is a direct result of some factor outside of the
body, such as the administration of therapeutic steroids (Bronstein 2011). The
endogenous component of Cushing s syndrome can be further broken down into
ACTH dependent and ACTH independent. ACTH dependent causes account for the
majority of cases (80%) (Bronstein 2011). Pituitary adenomas account for 80% of
ACTH dependent causes, with the remaining 20% resulting from ectopic tumours.
These ectopic tumours are generally small cell carcinomas of the lungs, but may
also result from endocrine tumours on a variety of organs (Newell Price et al. 2006).
ACTH independent causes typically result from various tumours on the adrenal
glands, resulting in the direct secretion of cortisol into the blood. In extremely rare
cases, ACTH independent Cushing s syndrome can be caused by corticotropin
independent macronodular adrenal disease and McCune Albright syndrome (Newell
Price et al. 2006).
Pathogenesis
Once a diagnosis of Cushing s syndrome is confirmed, the cause of this syndrome
must be determined. Each subsequent cause has
Grizzly Man Sparknotes
Werner Herzog is arguably one of the most creative and innovative directors of our
time. He has produced many pictures over the past few decades ranging from a
documentary on Antarctica s beauty, to a short series on death row inmates.
Herzog gained recognition as a German director in the late 70 s to early 80 s for films
like Signs of Life and Fitzcarraldo, receiving much critical acclaim. Since then he
has released many box office hits like Grizzly Manand Recscue dawn, based on the
true story of Dieter Dengler. Grizzly Man, released in 2006, is about the tragic death
of an eccentric wild life activist named Timothy Treadwell. This analysis will
examine the validity to the indexical and interpretive material in Grizzly Man.
Herzog uses original Timothy Treadwell footage as well as personal interviews to
represent the reality he perceives, using the reflexive and performative modes in the
documentary. Although it is impossible to show the entire picture of Timothys story,
there is enough information provided to support Herzogs position revealed at the

the many interviews of people in his life.
The film starts out with Treadwells original footage of him talking to the camera. In
the background are two huge bears, at a fairly distant but still frightening distance.

Jamestown, was in Atlantic History. The story of Jamestown is told in a much more
authentic, elaborate style than our textbooks has presented. As Kupperman points
out, Jamestown was not only important to United State s history but also to British
history. From the motivations to the lasting effects, she gives an accurate account of
all components involved in Jamestown. Also, there is a chapter devoted to the Native
American experience, which shows a non Western view of events. The book is
written in a format that is easily read but also compacted with information. More
importantly she puts Jamestown in its right place in United State s and British
history, as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter four analyzes this fascination. It starts off talking about Thomas Trevilian, an
author of an elaborate commonplace book, that showed the English public was
keenly interested in the world and in understanding how to categorize the knowledge
about all the new things, people, and cultures of which specimens and descriptions
were now available to them. (109 110) Their thirst for learning about the new was
quenched by frequent plays, narratives and other writings by colonist, and cabinets of
curiosities, early version of museums. The fifth chapter examines the effect
geography, climate and more importantly the naming of the areas in the colonial era.
The power to apply a name and make it stick implied ownership and control. (147)
Also, it discusses the climate and weather affect on Jamestown and the world s
relation. It talks about the Little Ice Age, and how the colder temperatures were
compounded by unprecedented drought throughout North America in the period of
contact and the first settlement. (171) Chapter six contrast Jamestown with other
British colonies in Ireland, the West Indies, Guiana, Roanoke, Newfoundland, and
New England. She focus on Ireland because the colonization of Ireland taught the
English how to transfer a social order and to transform the native population. (208)
The first year of Jamestown existence is the focus of chapter seven. It s name,

How Did Rachel Carson Contribute To Society
Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson is a marine biologist who lived from 1907 1964. She earned very
prestigious awards from novels she wrote. These novels made a big impact on the
modern American Society and science world. Those impacts can still be seen today
in biologists and the work they are doing.
Rachel Carson was born on May 27, 1907 in Springdale Pennsylvania. She was
raised on a farm in her hometown, as the youngest of three children. On the farm
Rachel was surrounded by the vast and fascinating outdoors ( Rachel Carson, The
Life and Legacy ). Though she loved the outdoors, Rachel started to show interest in
writing at a young age. Her first story A Battle in the Clouds was published in the St
Nicholas Magazine at only age 11. Later on in ... Show more content on

Probably the most famous of them was Albert Einstein. He discovered gravity,
relativity and the quantum description of light. Einstein also helped to advance the
creation of the atomic bomb. Other scientists included Ivan Pavlov who
discovered conditioned reflexes from studying dogs, Niels Bohr who discovered
the structure of the atom, and Jonas Salk who created a vaccine for polio. All of
these scientists were far off from the work of Rachel Carson, but they
revolutionized our world in some way ( The 10 Most Influential Scientists... ).
None of the previously mentioned scientists studied what Rachel Carson did, but
others did. Such as Frederick Aldrich who studied the giant squid, Hans Hass who
studied stingrays, sharks, and coral reefs, and Jacques Yves Cousteau who studied
the sea and aquatic life ( List of Famous Marine Biologists. ). Though many
scientists were studying the same marine life as her, no one had unveiled the
dangers of chemicals as she did. When Rachel released her book Silent Spring. She
took the world by storm making people furious at her accusations. The president
JFK then assigned others to do more research. Those researchers ended up proving
all of Rachel s work to be correct. Though no person ever believed it to be false,
except the chemical companies. That was only because of the profits they were
making from these pesticides. ( Rachel Carson, The Life and Legacy ). The
Julius Caesar Analysis
The human element, the human flaw, and the human nobility those are the
reasons that Chess Matches are won or lost. William Shakespeare s play The
Tragedy of Julius Caesar is a great representation of how a character s nobility
could lead to the rising of a great leader or to his tragic downfall. Brutus had many
flaws such as being noble and righteous of Rome, while Caesar was full of
arrogance and ambition. Both characters traits caused their own destruction. Caesar
and Brutus were both ambitious, but in separate ways. Caesar wanted power and
glory at any cost, and Brutus wanted to see a better and magnificent Rome while
being honorable and fair. However, those traits would cause Brutus to be vulnerable
and would bring him a step closer to his own destruction. In William Shakespeare s
play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Brutus is illustrated as a tragic hero because he
reveals such flaws as being honorable which eventually led to his downfall and
tragic death. One of the main flaws that brings Brutus closer to his downfall is
when Brutus s honor gives him the idea of letting Antony live. Brutus doesn t see
the assassination of Antony as important as eliminating Caesar Since he is his main
target, the one who has power over Rome rather than Antony who is just a nobody.
Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius, / To cut the head off and then hack
the limbs, / Like wrath in death and envy afterwards;/ For Antony is but a limb of
Caesar./ Let s be sacrificers, but
Animal Roles And Relationships
Wow, Some animals, like dogs and kittens, can develop relationships. Dogs and
kittens can become best friends, just like us humans. Mother dogs that just had a
liter of puppies might care for kittens. Some kittens and dogs are very inseparable
to each other. Inseparable means were you can not take away from each other.
Some pets are very loving. Caring for animals can be very similar. In the passage
Animal Roles and Relationships, the author talk about how lions and wolves help
each other out. In passage one, the author states, Lionesses take turns babysitting
and caring for the pride s young cubs. Wolves care for each other also. The text says,
There are wolves that are in charge. In passage two, it talks about how

Uic Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert Report
The UIC Vocal Jazz Ensemble started the performance first. The ensemble
consisted of thirteen members, and they opened the performance with a Christmas
carol. There were three males and four female soloists who were scat singing. The
ending of the song was very cool when the male soloist said, Better watch out now .
The song was very interesting and created a delightful atmosphere to start the
performance along with the Christmas spirit. The second song that the ensemble
performed was called In the Mellow Tone by Duke Ellington. They also took turn
to sing solo and scat singing. The male singers also sung a little part without

This song was a an excellent choice to end their performance because it was very

Taking a Look at the Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies have been a staple in Major League baseball for over
120 years. The Phillies are one of the League s oldest teams dating back all the way
to the year 1883. Over the years the Phillies have acquired many accolades and
accomplishments; although the Phillies are a decorated team for many positive
reasons they have also become the league s most losing team, with over 10,000
losses. Although the Philadelphia franchise may have the most losses in any
professional sport, whether it is football, basketball, or soccer, they have had many
playoff runs and even a few World Series appearances. Throughout the winning and
the losing seasons the Phillies have had some very good players, which went on to
be a Hall of Famers, while many of the players were mediocre at best. Although not
all of the players that played in Philadelphia were good, they had heart and drive to
not let the rambunctious fans in Philadelphia not get the best of them. Whenever a
family goes to one of these baseball games, the game may not be the center of
attention for the kids or even the adults with the most entertaining mascot of all the
Phillie Phanatic dancing around and being goofy in front of 20,000 people in the
stands. The Phillies are a Major League Baseballteam, located in Philadelphia, PA.

prostitution, and other crimes of a sexual nature. They suggested the commitment in
late 2001, and they committed to improving local, regional, national, and international
laws to help combat sexual crimes against minor children. They developed laws to
coordinate agencies and push for laws that help prosecute anyone conducting illegal
activities against children. The cooperation of all countries that accepted the
commitment made it easier for law enforcement to find, track, and eventually
prosecute persons who exploit child for the before mentioned crimes. The CSEC

Taking a Look at Nuclear Energy
What comes to your mind when you think of nuclear energy? Most people think of
nuclear bombs. However, nuclear energy can be used for so much more than bombs.
In fact, if nuclear power did not exist, we would not exist! This is because the sun
generates it energy from nuclear reactions of hydrogen nuclei into helium. Also,
nuclear powercould be the next solution for cheap energy for people and the
radiation it gives off could even rid someone of cancer.
What is nuclear power? (Sec. 1.1)
To state it directly, nuclear power is the use of nuclear processes to create heat and
energy. This energy that comes from exothermic nuclear processes can be converted
into radiation or power. There are two ways to produce nuclear power by fission or
fusion. Fission is splitting atoms of a radioactive element such as a uranium isotope.
The radioactive elements used for fission can be found in the actinide section of
the periodic table (Figure 1 below ↓). Fusion is the process of joining isotopes of
hydrogen (which is exactly what the sun does). How is nuclear power created? (Sec.
1.2)
Fission (Sec. 1.2.1) The energy that is used for heat or electricity comes from a
nuclear power plant. In a nutshell, the energy comes from the reaction of uranium
atoms splitting and giving off energy. The uranium atom is spilt in half by protons.
To cool down this reaction, CO2 or water is pumped throughout the reactor. The
cooling down makes steam, and this steam drives a generator that creates
Alecia To Eat Summary
Nancy began by reiterating her concerns from the previous night in that Alecia is
always starving when she gets home. She seemed less annoyed but also noted that
fees include food, so was concerned why Alecia is so hungry. She then asks for
feedback regarding the investigations as to what is happening that could lead to
this. This allowed for me to report my findings that Alecia is being offered food,
but is refusing it as it is often fruit which she does not seem to enjoy. I make a
verbal note that the educators are aware that Nancy has indicated to force Alecia
to eat, however this is not able to be done as it would be against policy. Politely
and respectfully, I would advise that we encourage as much as we can all children to

At this point, I ask Nancy how eating take places at home, especially with foods
that Alecia doesn t enjoy in order to learn any new strategies that the family use
and possible behaviour patterns. (Valuing her input and maintaining consistency
between home and the service.) Nancy shares that Alecia eats well for the most
part and does so independently, however fruits are often a battle and much
negotiation and encouragement is required. At home, Nancy states that Alecia is
not to leave the eating area until she has had a few bites of what has been served. I
indicated that we mostly eat at the table with the other children, or go out for a
picnic so this is similar to home. I ask Nancy, if she is able to make suggestions that
we could use to encourage Alecia to eat the fruits without forcing her, such as
making a smoothie with the fruits instead and getting Alecia involved in the making
of the smoothie. Nancy agrees that may be a good solution, and encourages that if
we have tried all we can, she understands our position in not forcing, but asks if we

Persuasive Essay On Save Water
For an entire week, I put my efforts towards conserving as much water as I could.
Saving water could include a variety of activities, however, I specifically chose to
focus on a few in order to not overwhelm myself, as the act of water conservation
can take many forms. The first activity I chose was to refrain from washing clothes
for an entire calendar week. The second activity I chose was to take less showers
throughout the week. Both of these ideas together, I thought, made up most of my
usage of water on a daily basis. Since the majority of my water usage could be boiled
down to washing clothes and taking showers, cutting back on these two activities
specifically has netted the most benefit in respect to sustainability. The main
motivation behind choosing to save water came in the form of my observation of
people wasting bottled waterin large amounts. I don t purchase bottled water for this
reason, however, for this sustainability initiative, I wanted to see how far I could
push the act of conserving water, since I already had been through small instances for
years.
On October 30th, 2017, I began my water conserving initiative. In order to get the
cleanest start possible, I decided to wash all of my clothes the previous day so I didn
t have a lack of clothes immediately starting off this project. I had also taken a
shower the day before as well, in order to stay organized with what I was doing.
Going forward, I was also going to time my showers, in order to waste as

Even if an industry is threatened, the other businesses of Capital One can still get
profits. For U.S. bank, they do not need to worry about threat of new entrants. They
have many loyal customers who already found suitable products and they have
good faith records in U.S. bank. Even if new companies try to give up a certain
amount of profits to give a more attractive interest to customers, we believe most
customers will still choose a safer and more reliable bank and stay with U.S.
The Cause Of Tornadoes In The United States
A tornado is a violent windstorm that cause destruction of buildings, houses, cars,

alley. They have the most tornadoes each year in the U.S. Just because tornadoes

As a matter of fact no place is safe, tornadoes can happen anywhere in America. The
cause of Tornadoes are hot temperatures, cold temperatures, and humidity all coming

cold air barricades the warm air beneath it. The warm air is trapped below
Key Events in the Reformation

for good and for bad in the 14th to the 19th century. The Reformation was full of
war and inventions that many had never seen before, affecting the religious and
social political systems in positive and negative ways. The first event in the
Reformation was the Printing Press. The Printing Press enabled the circulation of
the bible, starting the spread of Christianity and the Catholics. The Printing Press
was created by Johannes Gutenberg in 1450. Before the Printing Press the bible had
to be printed by hand, which meant that the copies had to be written word for word.

There were wars during this Reformation in the 16th and 17th century that took
place in many parts of Europe. The first wars took place in central and southern
Europe, between the Christians and the Muslims. The Christians and the Muslims
had been fighting each other ever since the Crusades from the 11th to the 13th
century; also in the Spanish Reconquista from the 8th to the 15th century; and the
Ottoman Wars in Europe from the 15th to 19th century. The wars that were the
longest lasting were the wars between the Protestant and the Catholics. These wars
were some of the bloodiest wars in the European wars of religion. The war between
the Protestants and Catholics is called the 30 Year s War which was the longest in
the war of religions. The Counter Reformation came better late than never as they
were much needed. The Council of Trent had a major role in the counter. The
Council of Trent fought for the Reformers in every way possible. The Council of

Catholics fought to become more spiritual, educated, and literate. The reformation
was a long and bloody time. There are many ways to look at this time period. Some
say it is from the church perspective and say these religions were fighting for what is

Descartes Discourse Method Part 1 Essay
In this assignment I will give you, the reader my opinion concerning the positions
of Descartes, Discourse Method, Part 1, and Discourse Method, Part 4, his basic
conclusion which ends with validation of something much grander. In reviewing
Descartes, Part 1, it s my belief he is describing reason, which is instilled in each
individual in society. If a person has a good reason doesn t mean they always make
the right decisions. Either way they make their decisions, no matter what their
opinions are. It s what makes us different from one another. If a person selects
something that is different, and shares their reasons why, it s all about conveying
their opinion. When people don t believe in what another person is conveying,
concerning their reasons why they came to their conclusion they have the right not
to agree. This is why we have discussions, even if their reasons are wrong; it s all
about bringing their opinions to the attention of someone else. In their discussion one
person s reason seems better than the other person; it doesn t make them smarter; it
might be their views are better. I don t believe in one person being better than
another. When a person takes time to research a matter, they might be prepared to
share their reasons why their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe Descartes is describing the distinction between idea and matter in a
metaphysical consciousness and the physical body a conformity known as
Cartesian dualism (PAM MS, 2017). Descartes comes to the conclusion of his own

believes he knows who God is. God is a being of infinite perfection. Descartes states
he was taught God is more perfect than him; he tries to articulate his way of thinking

The International Labour Organisation ( Ilo )
Responsible sourcing is a universal method to the sustainable evaluation of materials.
This is an environmental, economical and social way of obtaining construction
supplies such as concrete.
Responsible sourcing is a progressively imperative factor for specifiers and clients in
the construction commerce. The idea first industrialized in fair trade of food products
and fair employment conditions for production of consumer goods. The International
Labour Organisation (ILO) was founded in 1919 to be accountable for drawing up
and supervising international labour standards. Responsible sourcing adds to this by
involving other environmental, social and economic characteristics of sustainability.

There is an agenda for the organisational authority and supply chain management and
this must be adopted clearly by all companies.
It can be assumed that responsible sourcing can be a very crucial factor that
contributes towards construction and civil engineering as concrete is used in
almost all projects. This is why it is paramount to produce this concrete from
trusted sources. Hence 89% of all concrete in 2012 was certified to BES 6001 and
of the production tonnage certified, 99% has achieved Very Good or Excellent
performance rating. As sustainability is a key world issue now, it is important to
keep in mind where companies produce their resources. If concrete was not
responsibly sourced then a lot of unwanted issues could arise. For example it could
lead to the concrete not being of the same quality as a responsibly sourced one.
Also it may increase the carbon footprint and cause global warming if responsibly
sourcing was avoided to keep costs low. Although the short term effects of using
cheap concrete is good the long term effects of responsibly sourced concrete
outweighs this. In their analysis Georgopoulos and Minson (2014, p. 129) say, The
UK concrete industry is supporting the BES 6001 as it is the most comprehensive
standard available and measures the whole infrastructure of the supply chain . It is
not easy for companies to be certified by this and they have to meet certain
requirements, which includes having a

Soon after, the new government publicly allowed consumption of meat for the first

Even though the law allowed the consumption of meat, it did not become instantly a
part of Japanese cuisine until the people knew the nutritional benefit of it. For
several hundred years, Buddhism had forbidden people to eat four legged animals
so the people were not familiar with eating meat. However, due to the lack of beef in

Thesis On Rocket Nozzle
Chapter 1: Introduction 1.1)Thesis Structure This dissertation aims to provide an
optimized shape for rocket nozzle to minimize the variations in flow parameters like
temperature, pressure, density and Mach number. The total thrust produced by the
rocket nozzle depends upon these parameters and in order to obtain maximum thrust,
it is necessary to make sure that the gas, expanding through the nozzle, exits with
maximum uniformity with minimum abrupt variations in temperature, pressure,
density and Mach number. The first part of this dissertation presents a method to
design a two dimensional contour of a rocket nozzle known as method of
characteristics. Method of characteristics is mainly a technique for solving partial
differential equations. Typically, it is used to solve first order partial differential
equations, but in this thesis it is used to solve the velocity potential equation which is

Some of the previous research in this field will be reviewed. Y. Perrot et al [1]
showed in their numerical investigation of turbulent boundary layer separation in

separation may appear depending on the contour of the nozzle. Such flow separation
creates abrupt variations in pressure along the length of the nozzle. Furthermore,
Onofri et al [2] showed that the shape of the nozzle has significant effect of the shock
structure specifically in case of separated flows. William et al [3], in their
investigation of the cap shock pattern in a rocket nozzle, pointed out that significant
reduction in thrust performance of launch vehicle results due to imperfect exhaust
profile. They also mentioned in their investigation, that the contour of the nozzle

substitute for sugar. High intake of sugar can lead to systemic issues and damage of
the periodontium. I also printed out the recommended serving sizes for an adequate
diet. I wanted to assure I provided my patient the assistance they wanted. In the next
appointment, I provided copies of all the worksheets used to indicate the high risk of

The English Bildungsroman Essay
The English Bildungsroman
The novel has a strong tradition in English literature. In Great Britain, it can trace its
roots back to Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe in 1719 (Kroll 23). Since then, the
British novel has grown in popularity. It was especially popular in Victorian England.
The type of novel that was particularly popular in Victorian Englandwas the novel of
youth. Many authors of the time were producing works focused on the journey from
childhood to adulthood: Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre, George Eliot wrote The
Mill on the Floss, and Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield and Great
Expectations. All of these novels trace the growth of a child. In this respect, some of
the most popular novels of the nineteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, the Bildungsroman is characterized by the growth, education, and
development of a character both in the world and ultimately within himself.
The Bildungsroman is subcategorized into very specific types of the genre, most
often found in German literature. There is the Entwicklungsroman, which can be
defined as a chronicle of a young man s general growth rather than his specific quest
for self culture (Buckley 13). In other words, a story recounting a man s life rather
than focusing on the inner changes that contribute to his maturity. Another form
within German literature is the Erziehungsroman; this form is primarily concerned
with the protagonist s actual educational process (Buckley 13). Again, the concern is
not the overall development of the main character, but a specific aspect of that
character s life. Finally, there is the Kunstlerroman. The root Kunstler translates as
artist in English. Therefore, this is the development of the artist from childhood until
his artistic maturity, focusing on the man as artist rather than the man in general.
Dickens David Copperfield and James Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young
Man are both examples of English Kunstlerroman, as the protagonists of both books
are writers (Buckley 13).
These categories, while strict within German literature, are more free within English
literature. For the most part, it is (within English literature) a
Essay on Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
1. Birth
Saint Francis was born Giovanni Bernadone in either 1181 or 1182 in the
Italian hill town of Assisi. His parents, Pietro and Pica, were members of the rather
well to do merchant class of the town. Pioetro Bernadone was away in
France when his son was born. On his return, he had the boy s name changed from
Giovanni to Franceso ( The Little Frenchman perhaps a tribute to France, a country
he loved and from which his wife s family came). Saint Francis of Assisi, was born in
1182, more probably in the latter year. His mother s family, which was not without
distinction, may originally have hailed from Provence. His father, Pietro di
Bernardone, was a prosperous cloth merchant and ... Show more content on

He could admire his father, honest and worthy, but an austere man, taking up where
he laid not down, reaping where he had not shown. Drama also rendered his secret
dream, the realization of the chivalrous life. The exploits of Charlemagne s paladins
and the Knights of the
Round Table were already familiar throughout Italy, and code of knightly behavior
was known and honored, if little practiced. Francis s imagination disported itself in
the enchanted world of knighthood; and all his life he used the language of chivalry
and appealed to its ideals.
After Francis had attained manhood and developed his native discernment, he
devoted himself to the profession of his father, who was a merchant. Yet this he
did in his own way. Merry and generous by nature, ever ready for jest and song, he
roamed the town of Assisi day and night with his comrades and was most prodigal in
his spending to such and extent that he used all the money allowed him and all his
earnings for banquets and festivities. For this reason his parents frequently
remonstrated with him, pointing out that he was living in such style with his friends
that he no longer seemed to be their son, but the son a great prince. Yet as his parents
were wealthy and loved their son tenderly, they allowed him to have his own way
rather that disturb him.

The Happiest Refugee Summary
Ahn had not left this oppressive environment, he would have grown up in extreme
poverty and would be a very different person due to the trauma that poverty causes.
Refugees are here to escape poverty and persecution; because they have
experienced severe trauma, they are at a much higher risk of psychiatric illness
than the general population. I believe that these statistics can be reduced if our
negative attitude towards marginalized groups changes. Because of the media and
government induced stereotypes, Australians often show disdain towards refugees.
This inhibits their adjustment to Australian society and creates further division
among us. The Happiest Refugee is a valuable resource in the fight against racism
because it shows that refugees share our values, embrace our culture and are eager
to contribute to Australian society, and I strongly support it s inclusion in the
Rochedale State High School English program. One of the reasons why I found
The Happiest Refugee to be enjoyable and impactful is the use of various aesthetic
devices; including vivid imagery and humour. Ahn does not simply tell his story;
instead, he uses descriptive and emotive language to paint a picture in the reader s
mind. This allows us to imagine that we were there and connect with the situation
emotionally. An example of imagery in this autobiography is when Ahn shows us
what it is like to be a boat person . He describes his traumatic experience at sea by
using language such as The sky
Religion And Its Impact On Society
Even before there were millions of copies of bibles in circulation religion has been
a part of society that has always been there. But is this idea of rules and regulations
enforced by a belief system really helpful to society? In a world without religion
would there be less wars, hatred, and discrimination? With so many people involved
or affiliated with religionit is important to explore deeper into the negative impact
that religion has on society and try to make the world a better place with
information that will help all. At a personal level religion fulfills the role of
accounting for a lack of knowledge and offering hope in the face of difficulties
while also offering a sense of belonging. To identify with a religiousideology, and call
it the only truth and way, leads to the tremendously negative consequences of hatred,
racism, and all kinds of violence. These consequences of a world in disarray due to
religion far outweigh the small personal fulfillments. As Steven Weinberg, an
American physicist and Nobel laureate states, With or without religion, you would
have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good
people to do evil things, that takes religion. Although religion claims to lead people
towards truth, light, and happiness, in reality it actually leads them in the opposite
direction.
The most popular argument against religion in society is the fact that religion leads
to war and violence which then in turn results in poverty,

Bureaucracy Essay

  • 1. Bureaucracy Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of bureaucracy is no small feat. The subject itself is a labyrinth of intricacies, entangled in a web of organizational structures, rules, regulations, and administrative complexities. Delving into the world of bureaucracy requires a meticulous exploration of its historical evolution, theoretical foundations, and practical manifestations across different contexts. One of the primary challenges lies in navigating through the vast array of perspectives and scholarly debates surrounding bureaucracy. As you embark on the journey of researching and writing, you will encounter a multitude of theories, ranging from Max Weber's classical model to more contemporary critiques and alternatives. Each perspective demands careful consideration, analysis, and synthesis into a cohesive narrative that not only conveys a comprehensive understanding but also engages the reader in a meaningful discourse. Moreover, addressing the inherent tensions and contradictions within bureaucratic systems adds another layer of difficulty. Balancing the perceived efficiency of bureaucracies with concerns about red tape, rigidity, and the potential for stifling innovation requires a nuanced approach. Unraveling the impact of bureaucracy on individuals, organizations, and society as a whole demands critical thinking and a keen awareness of the broader socio-political context. Organizing and structuring the essay poses its own set of challenges. Attempting to create a logical flow that seamlessly transitions between historical context, theoretical frameworks, empirical evidence, and personal insights is akin to navigating a complex maze. Achieving coherence and clarity while presenting a sophisticated analysis requires a careful selection of evidence and an artful integration of ideas. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of bureaucracy is a formidable task that demands not only a deep understanding of the subject matter but also a high level of analytical and organizational skills. However, with dedication, thorough research, and a thoughtful approach, one can navigate the complexities of bureaucracy and produce an insightful and compelling essay. • 3. Confucian Scholar Dong Zhongshu And The Mandate Of Heaven Confucian historical texts provide pragmatic solutions to political projects, although they operated in a culture that was seasoned with value laden principles from a hybridization of Confucian, Daoist, and Buddhist schools of thought. This paper focuses on the Confucian Scholar Dong Zhongshu; specifically, I will analyze his thoughts on the Mandate of Heaven, the connection between the state human body, and his expectations of rulership. As I proceed with this analysis, I will demonstrate that Dong Zhongshu had a pragmatic political motive with his desire to be a member of educated elites known as the junzi. To begin with, I press the rhetorical: question was Dong Zhongshu a philosopher or an aspiring civil servant with philosophic tendencies?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay builds on what he has already said on the importance of the Mandate of Heaven. Section one of the essay speaks to it being the role of the ruler to know the true substance of things which Dong Zhongshu refers to as the practice of eliminating obstructions (DeBary pp. 298 300). Rulers do this by becoming the foundation of all state policy. Leading well necessitates a balance of virtue in between two extremes. Having the responsibility to lead is a heavy burden that mirrors the character of the ruler. Section two on responsibilities of rulership delves deeper into the character of rulership. At this point Dong Zhongshu has established that the heart of any successful state is the virtuous rulership of a sage leader (DeBary pp. 298 300). Through the ruler the people either for better or for worse transformed nevertheless that transformation is disseminated by the ruler. Sage rulers will lead by strong example with inspiration derived from the three foundations of heaven, earth and humankind. Reflecting on all of that it is apparent to me at least that what we can see Dong Zhongshu doing in his essay concerning the responsibilities of rulership advocates for the rulership, propagating political influence by means of Confucian justification. Once again reiterating the point that to oppose the rulership is to oppose the heavens. By fusing cosmology with the

Narrative Tensions In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak From reading Markus Zusak s The Book Thief, there is no denying that he is a great writer; in his book he shows all three narrative tensions, but mostly shows uncertainty because you never know what s around the corner. When first reading this book every page I turned the more uncertainty there was, for example, what was going to happen now that she lost her brother and biological mother within the same week? Having these mysteries everywhere in this book make a reader want to keep reading because they are uncertain as to what is going to happen to this character throughout the whole book. Uncertainty and Anticipation in a way fall in the same category, both make a reader want to read on and find out more; like said earlier, Markus is a profound author because he knows how to get people involved with the story, feel emotions, to want more. • 9. Legal Prostitution in the United States Essay It is rather odd to think that prostitution, which is considered to be the world s oldest profession, would be illegal and harmful in nature. The issue of legalizing prostitution has entered public conversation around the world, which is severely divided. Many, like myself, consider prostitution to be a victimless crime. Despite such opposition to legalizing prostitution, many argue that legalizing it would result in decreased morality issues, increase the economic activity in the United States, and help decrease the number of sexually transmitted diseases among both prostitutes and those who patronize them, The most common argument against the legalization of prostitution is that it establishes sexual immorality. The United States nor virtually any other country has ever been plagued with the problem of too little population growth, also it is not a threat to institution of family. What is left of the moralist argument is that prostitution is wrong morally, only by the religious faith. This point cannot be logically rejected; it must simply be accepted or rejected as an assertive statement. Given that prostitution will continue to flourish in the United States, there are many people who do not accept the religious disapproval and many more who are not willing to pay for the enforcement of these religious rules. Another argument to legalize prostitution would to be to regulated it, and take the woman off the street and place her into a safe environment, for instance: women who are in brothels in Nevada are screened monthly for STD s and are given birth control. Sexually transmitted diseases are a major concern for the women as well as the men and should be a major reason why legalization of prostitution should be pushed. Legalized prostitution has shown that prostitutes who work in brothels practice safe sex and are less likely to contract and transmit STDs. As indicated in the article entitled, Prostitution : George Flint, director of the Nevada Brothel Association, points with pride to the 20,000 monthly AIDS tests that have been performed on legal prostitutes since tests were required in 1986, with HIV showing up only among job applicants. • 10. Private Schools Vs. Public Schools Essay In the United States, getting an education is very important. Children spend thirteen years of their life learning English, history, math, science, and various other subjects so that they may one day be a productive college student or a working class citizen. In fact, There are 33,619 private schools in the United States, serving 5.4 million PK 12 students. Private schools account for 25 percent of the nation s schools and enroll 10 percent of all PK 12 students ( Council for American Private Education). Parents face many issues when deciding which school is right for their child. However, the factors that determine their choice of a private or public schoolare often the results of various essentials that closely mirror the parent s ideology in regards to education. Parents should send their children to a private schoolbecause private schools have smaller class sizes, the curriculum is more challenging, and the school environment is much safer than public schools. Smaller class sizes are a pivotal reason as to why parents should send their children to private school. Private schools have smaller class sizes, which allow for more individualized instruction on various subject matters, and they improve student teacher relationships. For instance, Small classes allow teachers to give students more individual attention and lighten the teacher s workload, and therefore are generally considered desirable (Choy 14). Subsequently, by having a smaller class size, a student

  • 12. The Domestic Work Of African American Women United States southeast region can be described as unique when it comes to its economic system and its social structure due to the multiple political and constitutional problems these structures have created. The most important factor of these problems raised could be said that was the social structure, regarding the interaction between the different social groups of this southeastern community. From the conflicts that aroused between the different White European settlers, to the adjustment of the African Americans to labor, the southerner society, or community, was created. The commodification of the domestic work of African Americanwomen affected in great ways their performance in white households, as well as their portrayal in advertisements, where they were shown to be a need to white southerners during the 1920 s. Although these advertisements approached the public with the idea that domestic work was a necessity, the advances in society made of their work one that day by day became less needed. The problems of race the United States confronted are deeply imbedded in the historical past of the nation. Due to the fact that a great majority of the nation s African Americans lived in former slave states, white southerners constantly came up new ways to impose white supremacy on their black neighbors. Consequently, black southerners fought back against unequal treatment, discrimination, and the violent white people who executed racial massacres. After the

It aims to reassert a man s right to control and domination in society through material consumption with blatant sexist messages. The commercial presents close ups of ethnically diverse men, positioned in the bedroom, the kitchen and the living room. The men are presenting themselves as expected of them society. Hence, the commercial is illustrating what Goffman calls commercial realism (Jhally, 2009). Since the viewer tries to resist the advertisements, this commercial is quick and effective, and thus uses codes of gender display because they are familiar to us all (Jhally, 2009). Evidently, the commercial aims at depicting men as metrosexual or rather intruded by the everyday activities to reinforce the features of masculinity: active, aware of the world and in charge of their surroundings. This point echoes Sean Nixon s genealogy of the development (1996) of how the representational practice of masculinity is derived from fashion (metrosexual imagery) and advertising (masculine features) (Gill, forthcoming, para 8). Additionally, this is furthered by Gill s reflection on Foucault s ideas on all identities are socially constructed and non essential (forthcoming, para 8). On that condition, the men must engage with the dominant masculine identities that are portrayed by the

Did you expect that to be a dull story like our grandparents or parents may have told to show us how much more difficult their lives were? Not exactly, this writing is about how college students of this generation make use of digital technology. The wide spread of today s technology via computers or smartphones results in constant connectivity to the internet. Social media, video gaming, information databases, and online classes, have affected college students studies. As a result, more students are being distracted, making a wider academic gap with self disciplined students. Most college students use a computer at home and/or a smartphone, a more compact, mobile version of a computer. Thanks to the mobility of smartphones that makes them ubiquitous, accessing the internet is effortless. Frequently, I observe students dotting all over the campus interacting with their smartphones. As observed by Clive Thompson, author of Smarter Than You Think, our tools are everywhere, linked with our minds, working in tandem (p.347). In other words, we are likely to be using our computers all the time. We use our computers whenever we have a chance. In particular, students from my writing class opt to use their smartphones during our short ten minutes break. Author of Is Google Making Us Stupid? Electric cars are better than gas cars because electric cars make less noise than gas cars when driving. The engines of electric cars make almost no noise, which the engineers have been perfecting for about 10 years now. The only sound you can hear is probably the hum of tires on the road when driving. On the other hand, the amount of noise inside a gas car can be as loud as 75 80 decibels. Electric cars are also better than gas cars because electric cars have low cost maintenance costs because electric cars do not need oil changes and it does not need oil for the engine to run. Electric cars can also save you money because they do not need gas, but people still say that Electric cars are so much more expensive to buy. For example, the 2011 Nissan LEAF SL has an Manufactured suggested retail price also known as (MSRP) of $33,7207, the four door 2011 Honda Civic Si offers many of the similar features for price of %$24,4051. Banks have made a profound impact on my view towards multicultural educationand the nation s current trend of standardization and high stakes testing. Scholarly research shows that the emphasis placed on testing and standards, mandated by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, is causing teachers to focus entirely on basic skills in reading, writing, and math (Banks Banks, 2010). This paradox is not just affecting low income and minority students, but also students in non minority groups as well. When there is no time for focus on skills that students need to participate in social change, these students will not learn to question practices within society or to work with other students from all different groups and backgrounds in order to effect change. Classes in schools which may contribute to multicultural education, such as social studies and foreign language, are being cut completely in order to spend more time on reading and math (Au, 2009). Tragedies develop the morality of readers by demonstrating the consequences of flawed choices made by the characters in the literary work. People in power, expected to have high standards of behaviour, can have errors in judgment that lead to disastrous results. Individuals transform into society s perception of them, turning their appearance into reality. The subjugation of women creates social imbalances which cause their own untimely demise. Figures of authority in Shakespeare s play have vices that Iago exploits to achieve the death of Othello. For example, Brabantio, a senator, believes that the idea of his daughter loving a man of colour is [f]or nature so preposterously to err (1.3. 62). His implication that it is unnatural for a white woman to desire a black man reveals that his flaw is a prejudiced mindset. Iago uses Brabantio s racist mentality to his advantage when he provokes Brabantio s anger about Othello s and Desdemona s marriage. This results in Desdemona leaving with Othello when he moves to Cyprus, allowing for Iago s machinations to culminate in the unwarranted deaths of Othello, Desdemona, Emilia, Cassio, and Roderigo. Shelley s novel on the other hand questions people in power by replacing traditional figures of authority with Frankenstein, a flawed character, leading to multiple deaths. Frankenstein becomes, capable of bestowing animation upon lifeless matter as he continues his obsession with the occult sciences (Shelley 37). The ability to create life results in Frankenstein simultaneously replacing the role of God and parents in procreation. This usurpation has disastrous ramifications. The progeny is born a monster in the literal sense since it is an aberration of nature, demonstrating the repercussions of playing God. It becomes a monster in the figurative sense as proven through the murders it commits. This is because of the absence of a loving figure to look after it, which shows the consequences of replacing parents. Both authors use the tragedy that ensues from the authority figure s flaws to challenge society s faith in the competency of figures of power. However, the authors achieve this by using different themes. In Othello, manipulation is prominent in the questioning of those in command, while Frankenstein delivers the same

Endogenous Cushing s syndrome results when the high levels of cortisol originate from within the body. The most common causes of endogenous Cushing s syndrome are adrenal, pituitary or ectopic tumours. These tumours lead to a disruption of the normal functioning of the HPA axis. Exogenous Cushing s syndrome results when the high levels of cortisol in the blood is a direct result of some factor outside of the body, such as the administration of therapeutic steroids (Bronstein 2011). The endogenous component of Cushing s syndrome can be further broken down into ACTH dependent and ACTH independent. ACTH dependent causes account for the majority of cases (80%) (Bronstein 2011). Pituitary adenomas account for 80% of ACTH dependent causes, with the remaining 20% resulting from ectopic tumours. These ectopic tumours are generally small cell carcinomas of the lungs, but may also result from endocrine tumours on a variety of organs (Newell Price et al. 2006). ACTH independent causes typically result from various tumours on the adrenal glands, resulting in the direct secretion of cortisol into the blood. In extremely rare cases, ACTH independent Cushing s syndrome can be caused by corticotropin independent macronodular adrenal disease and McCune Albright syndrome (Newell Price et al. 2006). Pathogenesis Once a diagnosis of Cushing s syndrome is confirmed, the cause of this syndrome must be determined. Each subsequent cause has

(109 110) Their thirst for learning about the new was quenched by frequent plays, narratives and other writings by colonist, and cabinets of curiosities, early version of museums. The fifth chapter examines the effect geography, climate and more importantly the naming of the areas in the colonial era. The power to apply a name and make it stick implied ownership and control. It talks about the Little Ice Age, and how the colder temperatures were compounded by unprecedented drought throughout North America in the period of contact and the first settlement. William Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is a great representation of how a character s nobility could lead to the rising of a great leader or to his tragic downfall. Brutus had many flaws such as being noble and righteous of Rome, while Caesar was full of arrogance and ambition. Both characters traits caused their own destruction. Caesar and Brutus were both ambitious, but in separate ways. Caesar wanted power and glory at any cost, and Brutus wanted to see a better and magnificent Rome while being honorable and fair. However, those traits would cause Brutus to be vulnerable and would bring him a step closer to his own destruction. In William Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Brutus is illustrated as a tragic hero because he reveals such flaws as being honorable which eventually led to his downfall and tragic death. One of the main flaws that brings Brutus closer to his downfall is when Brutus s honor gives him the idea of letting Antony live. Brutus doesn t see the assassination of Antony as important as eliminating Caesar Since he is his main target, the one who has power over Rome rather than Antony who is just a nobody. Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius, / To cut the head off and then hack the limbs, / Like wrath in death and envy afterwards;/ For Antony is but a limb of Caesar./ Let s be sacrificers, but

  • 31. Taking a Look at Nuclear Energy What comes to your mind when you think of nuclear energy? Most people think of nuclear bombs. However, nuclear energy can be used for so much more than bombs. In fact, if nuclear power did not exist, we would not exist! This is because the sun generates it energy from nuclear reactions of hydrogen nuclei into helium. Also, nuclear powercould be the next solution for cheap energy for people and the radiation it gives off could even rid someone of cancer. What is nuclear power? (Sec. 1.1) To state it directly, nuclear power is the use of nuclear processes to create heat and energy. This energy that comes from exothermic nuclear processes can be converted into radiation or power. There are two ways to produce nuclear power by fission or fusion. Fission is splitting atoms of a radioactive element such as a uranium isotope. The radioactive elements used for fission can be found in the actinide section of the periodic table (Figure 1 below ↓). Fusion is the process of joining isotopes of hydrogen (which is exactly what the sun does). How is nuclear power created? (Sec. 1.2) Fission (Sec. 1.2.1) The energy that is used for heat or electricity comes from a nuclear power plant. In a nutshell, the energy comes from the reaction of uranium atoms splitting and giving off energy. The uranium atom is spilt in half by protons. To cool down this reaction, CO2 or water is pumped throughout the reactor. The cooling down makes steam, and this steam drives a generator that creates

Saving water could include a variety of activities, however, I specifically chose to focus on a few in order to not overwhelm myself, as the act of water conservation can take many forms. The first activity I chose was to refrain from washing clothes for an entire calendar week. The second activity I chose was to take less showers throughout the week. Both of these ideas together, I thought, made up most of my usage of water on a daily basis. Hence 89% of all concrete in 2012 was certified to BES 6001 and of the production tonnage certified, 99% has achieved Very Good or Excellent performance rating. As sustainability is a key world issue now, it is important to keep in mind where companies produce their resources. If concrete was not responsibly sourced then a lot of unwanted issues could arise. For example it could lead to the concrete not being of the same quality as a responsibly sourced one. Also it may increase the carbon footprint and cause global warming if responsibly sourcing was avoided to keep costs low. Although the short term effects of using cheap concrete is good the long term effects of responsibly sourced concrete outweighs this. Thesis On Rocket Nozzle Chapter 1: Introduction 1.1)Thesis Structure This dissertation aims to provide an optimized shape for rocket nozzle to minimize the variations in flow parameters like temperature, pressure, density and Mach number. The total thrust produced by the rocket nozzle depends upon these parameters and in order to obtain maximum thrust, it is necessary to make sure that the gas, expanding through the nozzle, exits with maximum uniformity with minimum abrupt variations in temperature, pressure, density and Mach number. The first part of this dissertation presents a method to design a two dimensional contour of a rocket nozzle known as method of characteristics. Method of characteristics is mainly a technique for solving partial differential equations. The Bildungsroman is subcategorized into very specific types of the genre, most often found in German literature. There is the Entwicklungsroman, which can be defined as a chronicle of a young man s general growth rather than his specific quest for self culture (Buckley 13). In other words, a story recounting a man s life rather than focusing on the inner changes that contribute to his maturity. Another form within German literature is the Erziehungsroman; this form is primarily concerned with the protagonist s actual educational process (Buckley 13). Again, the concern is not the overall development of the main character, but a specific aspect of that character s life. Finally, there is the Kunstlerroman. The root Kunstler translates as artist in English. Therefore, this is the development of the artist from childhood until his artistic maturity, focusing on the man as artist rather than the man in general. Dickens David Copperfield and James Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are both examples of English Kunstlerroman, as the protagonists of both books are writers (Buckley 13). These categories, while strict within German literature, are more free within English literature. For the most part, it is (within English literature) a
  • 43. Essay on Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi 1. Birth Saint Francis was born Giovanni Bernadone in either 1181 or 1182 in the Italian hill town of Assisi. His parents, Pietro and Pica, were members of the rather well to do merchant class of the town. Pioetro Bernadone was away in France when his son was born. On his return, he had the boy s name changed from Giovanni to Franceso ( The Little Frenchman perhaps a tribute to France, a country he loved and from which his wife s family came). Saint Francis of Assisi, was born in 1182, more probably in the latter year. His mother s family, which was not without distinction, may originally have hailed from Provence. His father, Pietro di Bernardone, was a prosperous cloth merchant and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He could admire his father, honest and worthy, but an austere man, taking up where he laid not down, reaping where he had not shown. Drama also rendered his secret dream, the realization of the chivalrous life. The exploits of Charlemagne s paladins and the Knights of the Round Table were already familiar throughout Italy, and code of knightly behavior was known and honored, if little practiced. Francis s imagination disported itself in the enchanted world of knighthood; and all his life he used the language of chivalry and appealed to its ideals. After Francis had attained manhood and developed his native discernment, he devoted himself to the profession of his father, who was a merchant. Yet this he did in his own way. Merry and generous by nature, ever ready for jest and song, he roamed the town of Assisi day and night with his comrades and was most prodigal in his spending to such and extent that he used all the money allowed him and all his earnings for banquets and festivities. For this reason his parents frequently remonstrated with him, pointing out that he was living in such style with his friends that he no longer seemed to be their son, but the son a great prince. Yet as his parents were wealthy and loved their son tenderly, they allowed him to have his own way rather that disturb him. • 44. The Happiest Refugee Summary Ahn had not left this oppressive environment, he would have grown up in extreme poverty and would be a very different person due to the trauma that poverty causes. Refugees are here to escape poverty and persecution; because they have experienced severe trauma, they are at a much higher risk of psychiatric illness than the general population. I believe that these statistics can be reduced if our negative attitude towards marginalized groups changes. Because of the media and government induced stereotypes, Australians often show disdain towards refugees. This inhibits their adjustment to Australian society and creates further division among us. The Happiest Refugee is a valuable resource in the fight against racism because it shows that refugees share our values, embrace our culture and are eager to contribute to Australian society, and I strongly support it s inclusion in the Rochedale State High School English program. One of the reasons why I found The Happiest Refugee to be enjoyable and impactful is the use of various aesthetic devices; including vivid imagery and humour. Ahn does not simply tell his story; instead, he uses descriptive and emotive language to paint a picture in the reader s mind. This allows us to imagine that we were there and connect with the situation emotionally. An example of imagery in this autobiography is when Ahn shows us what it is like to be a boat person . He describes his traumatic experience at sea by using language such as The sky
  • 45. Religion And Its Impact On Society Even before there were millions of copies of bibles in circulation religion has been a part of society that has always been there. But is this idea of rules and regulations enforced by a belief system really helpful to society? In a world without religion would there be less wars, hatred, and discrimination? With so many people involved or affiliated with religionit is important to explore deeper into the negative impact that religion has on society and try to make the world a better place with information that will help all. At a personal level religion fulfills the role of accounting for a lack of knowledge and offering hope in the face of difficulties while also offering a sense of belonging. To identify with a religiousideology, and call it the only truth and way, leads to the tremendously negative consequences of hatred, racism, and all kinds of violence. These consequences of a world in disarray due to religion far outweigh the small personal fulfillments. As Steven Weinberg, an American physicist and Nobel laureate states, With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. Although religion claims to lead people towards truth, light, and happiness, in reality it actually leads them in the opposite direction. The most popular argument against religion in society is the fact that religion leads to war and violence which then in turn results in poverty,
