Many different ideas were surfacing about issues that affected the country as a
whole. The Republican Party, led by William McKinley, were concentrating on the
expansion of the United States and looking to excel in power and commerce. The
Democratic Party at this time was led by William Jennings Bryan, who was absorbed
in a sponge of morality and was concerned with the rights of man. The nation s self

reference to dealing with the Filipino problem, he proposed that the U.S. merely aid
rather than control. The U.S. was able to help Cuba stabilize a government while
protecting them with the Monroe Doctrine. Bryan felt that the same solution could

with the passing of the Wilderness Act of 1964. The act established a National
Wilderness System and created 9 millions acres. The main influence and writer of

Free Speech Persuasive Speech
What is free speech? Does the term free speech cover offensive words? Painful
ones? Words that disrespect others? What about objectionable, or even wrong
beliefs? When is speech illegal? What is exactly meant by free speech? According to
Rampell, the term free speech includes hate speech , and is therefore protected by the
first amendment (np). This means that even messages we don t like, agree with, feel
uncomfortable about, or even are disgusted by, are legal. Unfortunately, many college
students consider harmful words an assault, and some students believe that such
verbal attacks can and should be met with violence (French np). Students and
speakers today are discriminated against in classrooms and other scenes where free
speech and debateshould be especially cherished. In 2017 alone, there have been
multiple riots born of originally peaceful protests. Students in Middlebury College
in Vermont revolted at a peaceful debate with far right Charles Murray. While
Murray tried to reach his building, a mob formed, forcing him and his debate
partner, Allison Stanger, to move to another building (Beinhart np). When Murray
and Stanger tried to leave, they and the car they were in were attacked by students.
The leftist Stanger was sent to the emergency room because she tried to protect the
guest (Fatzick np). In Berkeley, California, students were up in arms, wanting to
prevent Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking. Their haste to silence a man they
disagreed with led to a huge disaster. In the streets, fellow classmates were attacked.
One student who supported President Trump was brutally beaten, and an innocent
bystander who claimed to be Muslim was assaulted for looking like a Nazi
(Ramaiyer np). Others were beset upon as well, with pepper spray, matches, and
baseball bats. In total, only one person was arrested (French np). Unless this one
person attacked this many people and businesses, it s safe to assume that dozens of
perpetrators have gone unpunished for the crime of hurting a human being! This free
speech is not protected under the First Amendment. People are hurting other people.

There are always those people that you meet that just really know how to use their
words. Everything that they say just kind of draws you in because it is so
intriguing. Today we like to call these type of people sweet talkers. More often
than not these characters are known to be more so of the male gender rather than
female. Often, these males are often using the sweet talking to the females trying to
draw them in. Many poets from around the 1600 s to the 1900 s would write poems

They aren t just looking at this in a way that it is for love by any means, both are
doing that as something for fun. They both see it as a sport for them, as in
something that they will do from time to time because it is enjoyable for them. In
the poem To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time the speaker says, The glorious
lamp of heaven, the sun,/ The higher he s a getting,/ The sooner will his race be
run,/ And nearer he s to setting. (Page 510, Lines 5 8) Here it shows that in this
poem it is something as a race against time for this to happen. They don t have
much time, so the have to get it done quickly so that that the time doesn t pass. It is
like a big race against time. In To His Coy Mistress, the speaker says, ...At every pore
with instant fires,/ Now let us sport us while we may,/ And now, like amorous birds
of prey... (Page 508, Lines 36 38) This speaker literally says it directly in the lines, he
says let s sport as in it is totally a game. They do this for fun, as in there is some sort
of goal that they achieve in doing this as a sport
