Homeless To Harvard Essay
Writing an essay on the journey from homelessness to Harvard can be a challenging yet
rewarding task. This topic requires a delicate balance between portraying the hardships faced by
individuals experiencing homelessness and highlighting the resilience and determination that lead
to academic success.
One of the challenges is to provide a nuanced perspective, avoiding oversimplification of the
complexities surrounding homelessness. It involves thorough research to understand the various
factors contributing to homelessness, such as economic disparities, mental health issues, and
social stigmas. Additionally, capturing the emotional and psychological aspects of the journey
demands a thoughtful and empathetic approach.
The narrative should be compelling, engaging readers while shedding light on the societal issues
that exacerbate homelessness. Striking the right tone is crucial – it should be both sensitive
and inspirational without veering into clichГ©s or sensationalism. Balancing the personal story
with broader social commentary requires a skillful hand to ensure the essay is not only
captivating but also thought-provoking.
Moreover, weaving the narrative towards the ultimate triumph of gaining admission to Harvard
involves skillful storytelling. The essay must reflect the individual's personal growth, resilience,
and the transformative power of education. Conveying the significance of education as a
catalyst for change while avoiding a didactic tone is another layer of complexity.
Lastly, addressing potential objections or criticisms regarding the portrayal of the journey adds
an extra layer of difficulty. Acknowledging the limitations of personal narratives and
emphasizing the broader systemic issues is important for a well-rounded perspective.
In conclusion, crafting a compelling "Homeless to Harvard" essay involves navigating through
the complexities of homelessness, balancing personal and societal perspectives, maintaining a
sensitive tone, and weaving a narrative that inspires without oversimplifying. It's a challenging
but worthwhile endeavor for those looking to share stories of resilience and triumph.

Ecological Theory Of Bronfenbrenner
Introduction
Ecological Sytem Theory of Bronfenbrenner: This theory takes a gander at a child s
improvement inside the setting of the arrangement of connections that shape his or
her condition. Bronfenbrenner s theory characterizes complex layers of condition,
each affecting a kid s improvement. This theory has as of late been renamed
bioecological frameworks hypothesis to stress that a kid s own particular science is
an essential situation powering her improvement. In this essay I will be concentrating
on the communication between factors in the youngster s developing science, his
close family/group condition, and the societal scene fills and steers his advancement.
Changes or struggle in any one layer will swell all through different layers. To
ponder a youngster s improvement at that point, we should look not just at the child
and her quick condition, yet in addition at the association of the bigger condition also.
American therapist, Urie Bronfenbrenner, detailed the Ecological Systems Theory to
clarify how the inborn characteristics of a child and his condition connect to impact
how he will develop and create. Through the Bronfenbrenner Ecological Theory,
Bronfenbrenner focused on the significance of concentrate a kid with regards to

Women s Role In Japanese History
Throughout the early history of Japan, the place and roles of women have
inconsistencies due to the several religious influences of the time period. During the
early parts of Japan s history, views of women have gone through many progressions
and regressions. With the integration of Shinto and Buddhism, the female identity
was turned into a contradiction. The significant roles of Japanese women in a deep
matriarchal society shifted to a reluctant acceptance of confinement, as history
progresses.
In the early stages of Japan s history, women played an integral part in Shinto
religion. Beginning in the JЕЌmon period, the importance of women was quickly
highlighted through the founding of female clay fertility figurines. These clay
figurines could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with the Nara period, female monks were included in the temple system
and were given increased roles in the priestly functions similar to those of their male
peers (Ambros 55). Japanese women were able to participate in Buddhist traditions in
many ways. Women were able to become nuns and even significant female monarchs
played a role in spreading Buddhism throughout Japan. The inclusion of women is
also seen in several important Buddhist texts, such as the Lotus Sutra, which
assured women of their potential for Buddhahood despite recognizing the physical
limitations of their body (Ambros 50). However, during the later Heian period, the
positive views of women in religion began to decline significantly because of anti
feminine Buddhist doctrines. The decline of women in religion is connected with
the Five Obstructions, which shows the need for female to male transformation in
order to reach nirvana (Ambros 55), and Three Obediences, which depicts the
pollution associated with female reproduction (Ambros 55), in Buddhism. An
example of these two doctrines includes the story of The Dragon King s Daughter.
The story of the Dragon King s Daughter is located in the Lotus Sutra, a key text in
Mahayana Buddhism. The story of the dragon king s daughter is significant as the
story reveals that women can only reach Buddhahood through the transformation into
male bodies (Ueki 279). This story undermines the general inclusiveness of
Buddhism, which was preached during the Nara period. Also, later in the Heian
period, the marital rules deeply added to the exclusion of women in Japanese society.
For example, The Tale of Genji, a romanticized Heian story, glorified forcible sexual
violation, meaning rape (Ambros 57) and consensual sexual violation, meaning
adultery (Ambros 57). Ultimately, this story normalizes and justifies polygyny and
male dominance in marriage. The

Formal Apology To All My Childhood Babysitters
In the A Formal Apology to all my Childhood Babysitters by Madison Linnihan, I
thought it was a cute and funny letter to her former childhood babysitters. The kids
described in this letter are very funny and seem to be full of life. There was this
one particular part of the letter that I really enjoyed, it was the part with that one

relate to this event, One time I played with this chalk paint with my babysitter and
accidentally got paint on her face. I clearly remember feeling really bad about
getting paint on her that I almost cried. Another part that I adored was game on the

Sophia Loren. Spaghetti is one of the most popular meals at restaurants and, even in
our homes. It isn t as simple as it seems, there are many forms, an odd amount of
nutritional benefits, and it has a complex history. Spaghetti is the plural form of the
Italian word spaghetts, which is a diminutive of spago meaning thin string or twine
(www.allaboutspaghetti.com). Spaghetto, a single noodle, has helped to form our
society from the Neolithic age until today. It has transformed shape, size, has lost and
gained popularity, but it has always been. The history of pastadates back to as early
as when the first humans began harvesting wheat. The first mention of it was from a
Roman chef, Apicius, in the first century A.D. He had called the pasta ribbons
(www.exanitier.com). This led historians to believe that this was the first written
reference of spaghetti. In later centuries, there were references of pasta making
equipment used by the Etruscans. The next written record of pasta was mentioned
in Italy during the 12th century by Guglielmo diMalavalle, who called the pasta
macaroni. In the 14th century, sailors would use pasta for their meals because it was
easy to store and, it didn t spoil. By the 16th century, pasta was a luxurious type of
food. Only the wealthy people ate it because the durum wheat required to make
spaghetti was hard to ground harvest efficiently. In the early 17th
Therapeutic Background Of Equine Therapy
The Therapeutic Background of Equine Therapy
Therapeutic horseback riding, a type of equine assisted psychotherapy, is a form of
social, physical and emotional therapy. In Ancient Greek, horseback riding was a well
known treatment for people who wished to rid themselves of physical or mental
ailments. However, it wasn t until 1900 that therapeutic horseback riding began to be
used in Canada and the United States. Nevertheless, after being introduced, equine
therapy slowly gathered momentum across North America and, by 1969, a group of
equine therapists founded the first specialized equestrian therapy centre. In the same
year, the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) was

Galileo Church v. Hero Essay
Galileo Church v. Hero
It is a volatile point in history: the intersection of science and religion at the height of
the Inquisition; it is a time when the Church reigns and a man, a physicist, must
choose life or death, himself or science. Galileo Galilei s legendary dilemma and the
circumstances surrounding it are presented in Bertolt Brecht s Galileo from a
perspective that is clearly criticizing institutions with such controlГіin this case, the
Catholic churchГіwhile reminding us that men are simply men, no matter how heroic
their actions appear. These issues are expounded throughout the play; however, Scene
11 has the most significant role in Galileo s development, as it simultaneously reveals
the extent of the Church s control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scene subtly reveals the evil at the heart of the Inquisition: the Church, which
should be Godly in practice, partakes in torturing individuals capable of testing the
power of the institution, forcing them to conform to the Church s will and thereby
eliminating any danger of upheaval. The Inquisitor states, He is a man of the flesh.
He would soften at once (Brecht 109). This describes the basic human instinct to
shrink from pain. Every man has his breaking point, the point at which the pain and
the fear and the shame are so great that he cannot withstand one moment more.
Galileo is no different. Also, Galileo is a man of scienceГіhe knows more of how
pain can be inflicted than most men. As the Inquisitor later adds, Mr. Galilei
understands machinery (Brecht 110). With this knowledge added to the fear of
physical discomfort, Galileo later does what most men would do under the
circumstances: he recants. Because this scene reveals the negative side of the Church
and the human ness of Galileo, the audience is not distracted from the criticism of the
institution. If Galileo had been portrayed as a hero, that aspect of the story would
have taken precedence over the theme of institutional control; the heroics would
linger and the criticism would be forgotten. Brecht is also reminding us that heroes
are unnecessaryГіman is capable of
History Of Split Brain Research
Split Brain Research History of split brain research Walter Dandy, an American
neurosurgeon unintentionally paved the way into research on split brain patients in
the 1930s. Split Brain refers to patients who have had their corpus callosum severed
to some extent or in whole. This procedure was mainly used as an extremely
invasive surgical procedure within patients suffering from intractable epileptic
seizures. The corpus callosum consists of over 200 million nerve fibres connecting
the left and right hemispheres of the brain and enables corresponding regions to
communicate. During one of Dandy s surgeries, he had to cut through corpus
callosum of a patient in order to get to an underlying pineal tumour. Following
surgery, Dandy observed and performed psychological and cognitive tests and
concluded that splitting the corpus callosum did not cause any changes in cognitive
behaviour In the 1940s, Theordore Erickson performed experiments on monkeys, in
which it became apparent that the corpus callosum plays a role in epileptic seizure
spread. Neurosurgeons William Van Wagenen and R. Yorke Herren took this even
further by performing and pioneering the first known callostomy the surgical
sectioning of the corpus callosum specifically to combat epileptic seizures. Prior to
and after surgery a series of tests were performed on these patients by a colleague
psychiatrist Andrew John Akelaitis. These tests included I.Q., motor skills, and
memory testing and general interviews.

The Single Transferable Vote System
The Single Transferable Vote system is a system that was invented by a
mathematician whose processes are lengthy and confusing to the people who actually
use it to implement change: voters. The currently used Single Member Plurality
system is widely understood and the best system for Manitoban voters. While some
may argue that the Single Transferrable Vote system is a superior method of electing
members of government in Manitoba, due to the unfamiliarity with candidates, lack
of voter involvement, and confusing nature of the system, the current Single Member
Plurality system is more effective and reflective of the actual views of the electors.
All electoral systems must take into account five consequences: proportionality, local

The alleged problems with the proportionality under SMP that STV seem to solve,
may be more beneficial on a national level, rather than on a provincial level as the
population size is much smaller and less diverse, therefor voters needs are far
more similar than on a national level. The second consequence of electoral systems
is referred to as local representation. LP is extremely poor in STV yet is excellent in
SMP. This is the case because the current system elects one MLA per riding and has
much smaller constituencies, making contact between the voter and their MLA
more feasible and likely easier to get in contact with. Once constituencies grow and
become large in size, like it has a tendency to do in STV, there becomes a need for
multi member parties required for one riding. Local representation under STV
becomes an issue for voters when constituents are too geographically large as contact
with representatives become few and far between. Large constituents with multiple
members representing them, seem to be the answer to the problem at hand, however
there is no guarantee that there will be enough candidate interest to support these
constituents under STV. For example, if many of the towns in Northern Manitoba
were grouped into one constituent, due to the sheer amount of travel that would be
required by candidates, it would be very difficult to find enough candidates willing
to sign up, and even more difficult for voters to engage face to face

very manner in which you engage (or do not engage) with others in the world

The Structure and Underlining Meanings of Rapunzel by...
The Structure and Underlining Meanings of Rapunzel by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
The story of Rapunzel, by the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, has the same
basic structure as all other fairy tales born from the oral tradition; what is commonly
referred to as the opening, main part and ending, is the foundation of the tale.
It is around this clearly defined three part structure of the plot, that invisible layers of
meaning exist often very different for each reader. Between the clever design of the
plot which allows several stories to surface within a seeming individual tale and
multiple layers underneath the literal action, exists a limitless journey of personal
exploration. A fairy talesuch as Rapunzel has many possible ... Show more content on

The forest, which symbolizing nature and wilderness, signifies an entry into
discovery, growth and often, change. Correspondingly, Rapunzel grows up and at
the age of twelve her sexual maturity is locked away by the witch in a tower. The
main part has a task to be completed too, like in the first part of the story: the prince
has a mission to free his beloved Rapunzel from the restricting tower and make her
his wife. The end of the main part of the tale is indicated by transformations of the
two major characters, Rapunzel and the prince; Rapunzel loses her long, beautiful
hair, which was an important tool in not only her relationship with her lover but also
with her lifelong caretaker, and the prince loses his ability to see.
Like the introduction, the main part of the tale is also composed of three distinct
parts which form a short story on their own. A clear beginning, a central story, and an
ending exists. The opening of the main part is concluded after the prince, although
enchanted by Rapunzel s singing, gives up his plan to pursue her when faced with
a barrier: no entryway to the tower in which Rapunzel lives. When the prince enters
the forest a second time, he is a changed person he now has a motivation to act on
his desires for Rapunzel. The prince is no longer a man who easily gives up; he is
eager to form a plan for entry into the tower, and at the same time, the life of the
sheltered Rapunzel. She too undergoes a

Grant Purpose
Southern Dominion Health Systems invites the investment from the ADA
Foundation of $5000.00 to improve the quality of oral health through education in our
underserved and vulnerable population of Lunenburg County. This grant will be for a
one year period.
Problem/Background
Oral health care is not uniformly attainable across the nation (Fineberg, H, 2011, p.
ix). Unfortunately, individuals who face the greatest barriers to care are often
among the most vulnerable members of our society (Yi, G., Logan, H. L., Dodd, V.
J., Muller, K. E., Marks, J. G., Riley III, J. L. 2014). It has been said that low health
literacy may be associated with barriers to accessing care and with oral health
behaviors such as seeking preventive care (Ratzan S, Parker R., 2000). It has also
been suggested that those with low health literacy are at highest risk for oral diseases
and problems (Horowitz, A., Kleinman D., 2012).
The impact of unmet oral health care needs is magnified by the well established
connection between oral health and overall health (Fineberg, H. 2011, p. ix). Oral
health status is linked with general health, as evidenced by the association between
poor oral health and chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and
respiratory disease. Poor oral hygiene can also lead to other health issues such as, oral
facial pain and digestive problems. The silent epidemic of oral diseases
disproportionately affects disadvantaged communities,
Cause And Effect Of Chacxulub Impact
Chicxulub Impact
By Talullah Lennon
The Cause:
An Asteroid is formed in the inner solar system in a particular part called the
Asteroid Belt, when small particles of rock and metal collide with each other, and
slowly build up over time. Planets are formed the same way as asteroids, but what
stops asteroids from growing and becoming a planet is due to the gravitationally pull
of Jupiter. The asteroid belt lies between Jupiter and mars. Because of Jupiter s
gravitationally pull the asteroid goes at a highly increased speed causing it to crash
into other asteroids in the belt, the result of this is either the asteroids bounce off
one another or they break off and don t stick together. The asteroid belt contains
billions of asteroids in all different sixes. Majority are reasonable small around the

The Crime Of Uniform Crime
Uniform Crime Report for 2014 states that there are four offenses in the Violent
Crime category, they include Murder, Forcible Rape, Robbery and Aggravated
Assault. They only collect their data from Law Enforcement Agencies from their
arrest reports. According to The Uniform Crime Report, Property Crime includes
these four offenses, Burglary, Larceny/ Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft and Arson. The
Uniform CrimeReport reported that there were 402,470 violent crime arrests in 2014
compared to 1,275,315 property crime arrests.
The National Crime Victimization Survey reported that in 2014 there were
5,359,570 victims of violent crime, and 15,288,470 victims of property crime. The
National Crime Victimization Survey only collects their data of nonfatal, not
reported to police and crimes reported to police against persons 12 or older.
Prevalence of crime is different than victimization because one person could be a
victim of an assault on two different occasions and they would be counted as a
victim twice yet only be considered once for the thought of prevalence. At a rate of
about 20 per a thousand people, individuals had become victims to violent crime in
2014. The prevalence of violent crime in 2014 was around 4 million people
victimized at least once, yet there were around 10 million households that had
become a victim of a property crime in 2014.
Crime is spread out fairly equally throughout the United States, the only slight
variation would be in the northeast. People in the
Abraham Maslow Impact
Abraham Maslow had a positive impact on life. Maslow wanted a career that would
change the world, and he achieved just that. He developed his influential hierarchy
of inborn needs in the 1940 s. During WWII, Maslow got into a different field: the

called self actualizing. He was known for his groundbreaking studies on personality
and motivation, and his concepts like self actualization, peak experience, and synergy
have become part of our everyday language.
Abraham Harold Maslow was an American psychologist who is best known for

Women s Rights In The United States
In america the rights women have gained are good, on the other hand people still
think there are still some things to overcome. In most places women have had the
right to vote. Some say that women remain at a disadvantage in education as well
and women continue to make up more than most of students who drop out before
completing the fourth grade, as well as making up for half of the world is one billion
adults. Each year the number of females entering into higher educational programs
and universities increases greatly. Another great thing for women is that of own body
rights. In many nations abortions are legal and women have a wide variety of
different things , such as birth control. This right in many nations remains as a central
continuing debate issue. Some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though i m not sure if that s as true but With this in hand, you kind of would expect
people to play to their strengths. For example, women are better at nurturing their
children, so normally, there are less stay at home dads then there are stay at home
moms. Men normally are said to be better at dealing with stress psychologically, so
it makes sense they would go to a job where there s a lot of work stress. A lot of the
ideas about the pay of men and women are different. They include women who don
t have jobs a lot of the time, and adding a lot of people who decide to go with that
part of them to the statistic. And women are payed less based on their own
choices. The actual things show us it s there, but it s very very small. that s just
going to happen. There will always be that one guy who doesn t pay women fairly
and get s away with it. We re human, we re not perfect. We can t have a perfect
system. Kinda like 28% of women overall say they have experienced discrimination.
Women make up 18% of congress and 15% of corporate boards. MOst women also
think all what men do is seen as being sexist. So i guess you could say that in today s
culture there is a lot of
Essay on Paying College Athletes
Should college athletes get paid more money?
There has been a constant debate the past few years on whether college athletes,
particularly football players, should get paid. In 1988, the Nebraska legislature
passed a bill that would allow the University of Nebraska football players to
receive better cash incentives. The bill was later vetoed by Governor Kay Orr, who
was governor of Nebraska at the time (O Toole etal. 2). . The dispute comes from
coaches, parents of the players, and the players themselves arguing that universities
make money off their own athletes and the athletes, in turn, do not receive any money
from that. Many NCAA officials disagree stating their case that college athletes
already receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the bill is getting exploited by NCAA rules and by the official in the Big 12.
According to Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg, the bill, if passed in Nebraska,
has a slim chance of passing in other states that has schools in the Big 12. He
states, At this point, I know of no other state legislative activity that relates to a bill
like this (cite). Weiberg expands on how he is not alone in this decision by saying,
Our presidents and chancellors have been uniformly opposed to any plan that would
give the appearance of play for pay (O Toole etal. 2). With these statements it seems
like Chambers doesn t have good position in getting the bill passed, but the bill can
initiate an argument saying that if college athletes do not get paid, the temptation of
illegal consumption of money by athletes could rise.
In agreeing with Weiberg, Wally Renfro, who is an assistant to NCAA president
Myles Brand, states, It (the bill) shouldn t happen for two reasons. One is
philosophical. It s not the model of intercollegiate athletics. Second, it s impractical.
They re basically talking, I think, about paying football players. I don t think that s
going to stand the test of a court challenge from students who play basketball or
students who play baseball or students in the tennis

Thomas Jefferson was arguably one of the most important people in American

amount of information in source (2) is not relevant to what I particularly want to

less specific than source (1). This is a good thing because Thomas Jefferson

Art Comparison
Art is an incredible medium when used to its fullest potential. What I mean by that
is; it has the capabilities to surround the viewer with its imagery and play with the
emotions. Paintings are particulary effective in doing this through the use of color
tones and temperature . For example; El Greco used a lot of blue and green
throughout his body of work. The outcome is that the subject matter comes off as
ghostly and perhaps a little alien. This is in high contrast to Georgia O Keeffe s
desert paintings, which utilise reds, yellows, and browns to create a warm and
appealing landscape.
Of course, these are not the only artist to make master works of tonality. Here are
five artists (which you may recognize) who have harnesed the power ... Show more

Both Velazquez s Old Woman and Rembrandt s Prodigal Son are bathed in (or
painted in) golden yellow tones. While both are wearing clothes of differing colors,
each pigment is mixed with a little yellow, white, or light brown to give warmth to
the figure. This helps them to contrast to the very dark background. I like how
Rembrandt has figures in the background that are almost indiscernable. By being part
of the opposing (darker) tonal group, we as viewers are shown that they are not the
most important part of the portrait; that the son and father are. Velazquez, however,
chooses to have all elements of interest in the lighter tones in his painting, leaving the
back as a dark void of mystery.
Van Gogh is probably one of the most interesting painters concerning tonality. His
purposeful usage of one color in a body of work is a strong reference to emotion
(particularly in his portraits). His expressive brush work swirls the blues, and slight
yellow and green, around his face. Even his skin has a bluish hue. These elements
describe a somber or sorrowful state of mind. Its as almost if the troubles around him
are seeping into his skin (like the blue).
That being said, tonality is both the friend of the artist and the art lover. It is a
wonderful story

Conflict in the Workplace
Conflict in the Workplace
Introduction
The business world is highly competitive from every perspective; competition for
office space, virtual space, markets, customers, clients and with colleagues. It is the
responsibility of people working together in their day to day business transactions to
have finely tuned interpersonal skills, knowledge and experience to ensure that they
achieve the best possible outcomes for themselves and their employers. In
environments such as these, conflicts, arguments and disagreements occur as part of
people s working lives. Conflicts in the workplace may lead to unhappiness for those
in the conflict and of course, this will impact on their own professional performance.
These conflicts create so many other problems, not just for the people who are in
conflict, but also for their colleagues. Effective conflict resolution and management
are therefore paramount for people to be able to solve their workplace differences
so that they may enjoy their work personally and professionally. Apart from that,
understanding and recognizing positive and negative disputes in the workplace is a
significant part of being a well organized manager. It also improves positive
efficiency, receptiveness, and effectiveness in attaining goals. This essay will discuss
the causes of conflict in the workplace, importance of resolving workplace conflict,
how to deal with workplace conflict include poor communication and competition. It

The Comparsion Of Tone In Cavafy s Ithaca
Both Cavafy and Chahine s alter ego went through the phase of loathing Alexadnria,

body turned to rare excitement, the city can become the impetus for a great voyage
that will lead them through pleasure and knowledge to an understanding, among
other things of their city s metaphoric significance in this case the reflection of their
elevated, adventurous spirit (Keeley 37).
As Cavafy spent more time in the city and matured there, he came to see the beauty
of Alexandria. After all the morbid poems he wrote about how he feels trapped in the

The World Of Work For Women In The 1800 s
What are two ways women s domestic duties are affected by those jobs performed
outside the home? Throughout history, women have made major economic
contributions to their societies and families through their labor (Lindsey, 2011, pg.
273). However, there is old rumors that state women clearly were declined the
opportunities to bound in any form of clamorous work of any kind. Though, that is
no longer the case today, for many women join the men in the fields, to help process
the crops in order to provide much needed nutrients for their families; than ever
before. To explain the world of work for women, sociologists focus on four major
types of production in which women have traditionally engaged: producing goods or
services for consumption... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all work makes an economic contribution, but the unpaid work activities
related to the home have been marginalized in economic rendering of production
According to Riane Eisler (2007:16 as cited in Lindsey, 2011, pg. 277). Meaning
that for human survival, and human development to be successful women s work
needs to be valued, while women are taking on the responsibilities of caregivers to
others; as well as their own. In addition to the many task these women provide such
as their contribution to their household chores, managing the household income,
childbearing; and caring for the elderly; these jobs are all considered unpaid work
to which these women will never receive any form of income for the work they
provided. In the United States alone more than 40, 000 dollars annually would be
paid out yearly, if these women were being paid for services rendered in those
areas; such as cooking, cleaning, ironing, care givers; and financial advisor.
Meaning, at the global level, if the unpaid work of women were added to the world s
economy, it would expand by one third, but on the positive side, the economic reality
of women s unpaid productive work is gaining public and government attention

Run Lola Run Editing
Editing is an important stylistic element because it affects the overall rhythm or pace
of the film. The most obvious element of editorial style is the length of the average
shot in the film. Generally the longer the time between cuts, the slower the pace of
the film (Ch. 11 Pg. 318). Editing is part of the post production process which
includes titling, color correction, sound mixing, etc. This process of editingincludes
rearranging, adding or removing video or audio clips, or transitions between clips.
The editing in a movie gives the power to choose what the viewer sees and how the
viewer sees it at any given moment (Ch. 1 Pg. 5). You can do this through camera
angles, the grain of the shot, and once again, transitions.
There are many reasons to edit a video and your approach should depend on your
desired outcome. Before you begin you must set your editing goals, which could
include the following; removal of unwanted footage, choosing the best footage,
adding effects, graphics, music, etc, add pace or mood, or give the shot a particular
angle. Choosing footage is the easiest and most common task when editing. Most
videos can be dramatically improved by simply cutting out unwanted clips. It is very

Close frames in the dialogue scenes help the viewers connect the dots of the
storyline. The camera and editing do not follow common rules but are used with
the experimental side of the movie. Transition techniques like fade in, fade out
wipe are used at several instances. Cross cutting and split screens are used to
establish the events and are effective at some places like in the scene that shows

Mass Extinction Of Dinosaurs
The mass extinction of the Dinosaurs has been a subject of interest and dispute for
many scientists over the years. There are many different theories on what happened
to them: did some planetary destruction happen, did they die out, were they wiped
out, or was it the cause of something not of this planet. This question and this need to
solve the mysteries of the world has continued to draw scientists in for the never
ending search for the answer. Scientists have worked tirelessly in an attempt to
discover the truth, and their hard work has warranted some results. In Mexico in the
Turquoise waters, scientists have discovered a crater where they believe an asteroid
or comet struck earthwhich helped cause one of the largest mass extinctions in the
history of our planet. They call it, Chicxulub, and they know of it as the killer of
dinosaurs. They found evidence of this event first in the layers of rock in the earth.
Scientists discovered that when you look at the different layers of rock that depict
the history of our planet certain fossils just stopped showing up. The discovery was
that at some point certain living creatures on this planet simply no longer lived to
create fossils. A discovery made by scientists in the 1980s showed there were large
deposits of Iridium in the earth during the time all these creatures suddenly
disappeared. Iridium is not that common on this earth, but it is common on asteroids;
thus the belief of the steroid hitting earth. Scientists believe
America s Political Situation Of The World Essay
To Begin the World Over Again
In 1770 s political situation of the world was so suitable for United States in order to
establish its own government as a country and determine a well functioning foreign
policy to protect United States interest. Even though European countries such United
Kingdom, France, Spain want to American continent as an open land to exploit, Tom
Paine suggest an idea that United States should secure for independence and set up
republic. According to Paine, people in the United States are chosen to create new
world order and commerce to change the history.
The way to approach trade and relationship with colonized countries also gives an
advantage to the United States. Therefore, United States maximized its profit by
trading colonized countries directly. This shows United States does not constitute
common idea of trade, which was mercantilism at that time, yet United States selects
direct and relatively free trade with other countries. So, United States begin to change
trade pattern in the world.
After Westphalia, concepts that are related to states and international order increased
the importance of notion of state. States attached importance to their own domestic
policies and international interest. States pay more attention on diplomacy and
negotiation rather than war. War become highest risk for states to keep their
international interest. They invest their armies to use them as a psychologic weapon
to protect their interest.

The Premature Burial Summary
In The Premature Burial by Edgar Allan Poe uses first person narrative,
Congressman s wife, a banker s wife, a soldier, a patient, and himself, to show why
he was obsessed about the fear of being buried alive during the early nineteenth
century. Through this story it tells how five different people are buried alive, the
last one himself. During the early nineteenth century it was common for people to
be buried alive. Doctors did not have the resources that is available today to help
determine whether or not someone was in fact deceased. After going through this
for a long time some people decided to help prevent this. They did this by putting a
pipe from the ground to the coffin. They tied a bell, sometimes a flag to the end of
the pole sticking out of the ground. If the bell rang they knew to come dig up this
person. Although this is not very common now, there have been a few reports that
have said otherwise. Edgar Allan Poewas born in Boston Massachusetts to David

was a reflection of time. The Professor has too much time for him, but for us that s
what s keeping us from total destruction. Ethelred has no time, and that s what s
keeping him fat and out of touch. Winnie s time had started when she was free at

The National System Of Innovation
4. Analytical Framework
Based on the literature reviewed, the national system of innovation basically consists
of three segments: universities, governments, and the businesses, with each segment
interacting with the others, while at the same time playing their individual roles. The
figure below is a simple illustration of how these three key players come to form the
NIS. It is also important to note that NIS is a complex conglomerate of interacting
independent parties that has to do with the ability to plan and integrate policies and
institutions. The Universities play the role of undertaking basic science and
technology research; educate scientists and technologists needed by governments and
business. Governments in turn play the role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

5.2 Empirical Model Specification and Estimation Techniques
Following an endogenous growth framework, the study specifies a model that best
captures the effect of national innovation system on economic growth. Given the
growing empirical evidences supporting the positive effect of innovation on
economic growth (Hulya Ulku, 2007; Yanrui Wu, 2012) we control for other factors
that influences long run growth and generalize the specification of a growth equation
that accounts for the effects of national innovation system on economic growth. Thus,
in deriving our empirical model for estimating this relationship for BRICS, we posit
that: ln(Yit) = О± + ОІ1 ln(UEit)+ ОІ2 ln(RDit) + ОІ3 ln(TMit) + н›Њ1 ln(PTit) +
н›Њ2 ln(SPit) + н›Њ3 ln(SJPit) + Йіi +Ф‘it (1)

Financial Accounting Uses The Accrual Concept
Revenue received in advance
Financial accounting uses the accrual concept whereby the results of transactions are
recorded when or as they occur instead of only when cash is received or paid. On the
other hand, the taxation authorities taxes entities on the earliest of accrual or receipt.
The difference in the accounting and tax treatments of different transactions may
therefore result in an entity s profit/loss before taxation for a period (or year of
assessment) being different from the entity s taxable income/loss for that period (or
year of assessment).
Transnet is a South African resident company as it was incorporated in the Republic
of South Africa (page 159 of the Transnet Annual Financial Statements 2015 Volume

For an amount to constitute gross income it needs to meet the requirements or
elements of the gross income definition as defined in section 1 of the Income TaxAct
58 of 1962 (the Act). In the case of any South African resident, gross income is the
total amount in cash or otherwise received by or accrued to or in favour of such
resident during the year or period of assessment excluding receipts and accruals of a
capital nature (Stiglingh, M; et al. 2016).
The words received by and accrued to are not defined in the Act, reference to the
relevant case law is therefore necessary (Stiglingh, M; et al. 2016). For an amount to
accrue to a taxpayer, the taxpayer has to be entitled to receive payment of
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
COPD which is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is known as a condition
that progressively makes it harder to breathe because the airflow into and out of the
lungs is reduced. This usually occurs because the airways and air sacs lose their

become swollen, or if the airways are clogged because they made more mucus than
usual. Three main conditions of this disease are emphysema, chronic obstructive

the muscles around your airways to help make breathing easier; however, short
acting is said to only last four to six hours, whereas, long acting is said to last
twelve hours or more. Most bronchodilators are used through metered dose
inhalers. Also, inhaled steroids may be prescribed to reduce the airways from
swelling. Doctors will usually prescribe the steroid for a trial period of six weeks to
three months. Other treatments to help this disease from progressing may be
pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen therapy, and vaccines to prevent the patient from
the pneumonia or the flu. Rarely, a patient may be advised to have surgery such as a
bullectomy, which is a removal of one or more very large bullae of the lungs, a lung
volume reduction surgery, which is used to removed damaged tissue from the lungs,
or a lung transplant may also benefit patients who suffer
Type 1 Diabetes Essay
There are two types of diabetes that occur not due to pregnancy: Type 1 and Type 2.
Type 1, also known as insulin dependent and juvenile diabetes occurs because of a
genetic hiccup in which the pancreas beta cells can t properly create and distribute
insulin, causing the individual to have to take injections. The second type of diabetes,
Type 2, occurs when the body can t make enough insulinfor adequate function of the
body, albeit from age or weight. In this type of diabetes insulin injections are less
common (although can still be prescribed depending), which is why the main focus
and recommendations will be based on Type 1 diabetic mothers.
Organizations like The American Diabetes Association (ADA), The National Institute

Using a population based study, researchers used a Medical Birth Registry in
Sweden, gaining data on about 5,000 type 1 diabetic pregnancies. They also used
approximately 1,200,000 pregnancies deemed healthy as a control group. In studying
these births and the health of the children from 1991 to 2003, researchers found a
prominent correlation between type one diabetic mothers and preeclampsia, cesarean
section delivery, . . . still births, perinatal mortality, and major malformations. On top
of these issues, there was a seen increase in preterm births and cases of fetal
macrosomia among the diabetic group (Persson, Norman, Hanson, 2009, p. [Page
#]).(Persson, Norman, Hanson, 2009)
To get even more specific, a study was done about the sole issue of the number of
stillbirths that result in diabetic pregnancies. Using pregnancies from 1990 2000,
researchers analyzed characteristics of the pregnancy: the mother, her control over
her diabetes, the pregnancy itself, and the still born. Looking through 1300 women,
25 stillbirths were found among 22 women. Within those stillbirths, 9 were caused by
poor glycemic control, with the rest due to explainable (smoking, poor environment,
diabetic nephropathy etc) or unexplainable causes.
To further test how insulin boluses change through out pregnancy, a study was
conducted to test the difference between the use of an insulin pump
What Does The Poison Tree Represent
A symbol is a person, a place, a creature, an article, or an occasion inside of a bit of
composing that exists on a literal level additionally alludes to something on a
figurative level. In relationship with William Blake s the poison tree, the idea of a
tree that is toxic take us back to the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil from the
book of Genesis. Likewise the title of this poem represents its central symbol. That
the speaker sustains his anger against a foe, and it develops into a tree bearing
poisonous fruit. typically, Poison reveals death, malicious; it is normally given to
somebody with a specific end goal to murder them. Tree reveals growth, nature, or
an image of rot. Evil is being embodied on a tree.
In line 4, the speaker said that his anger grows on the grounds that he didn t say
anything in regards to it. Here growth is a symbol of the procedure by which ... Show

Sunning arrives again as a symbol of the thing we do to make our indignation
develop.
In line 10, the speakers outrage bears an apple splendid. The apple represents the
indignation which was not determined and therefore developed into something that
brought on death. Furthermore, the speaker s depiction of the apple which is bright
and alluring alludes to the desire and enticement of people.
In line 13, the garden as a symbol alludes to the Garden of Eden and the Tree of
Knowledge which the apple was eaten and prompted the fall of Adam and Eve. Plus,
the garden here resembles an image of the spot in our brain where we let our
resentment develop and get to be damaging.
In line 16, the speaker s anger has developed from a little plant into a tree. Here the
tree spins around one individual s feeling of hatred, Which is a symbol of the giant
and damaging thing that human s outrage can get to be. Obviously, the awful truth of
this poem is that both the foe and the speaker have been poisoned by the anger, as
the speaker is devoured and hurt by his
CASE STUDY The Fork And Dagger Pub Essay examples
Founded in Straun, Ontario by Richard Lynch, the Fork and Dagger Pub was a
growing business and showed much success after opening in 1993. By using word
of mouth advertising with the high traffic taken in from playing the Norway
Olympics in the pub, the Fork and Dagger Pub found itself with a lot of sports
enthusiasts as regular customers as well as students from local schools. But since
2008, the Fork and Dagger Pub has declined in revenue and local patrons have
seemed to vanish. With new competitors in the area, and net income decreasing
over $100,000 in four years Richard has decided to let his two sons, Jason Bradley,
both working at the establishment for over 10 years, to create business proposals to
help their revenue grow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only business essential expenses were kept the same. So it would appear that
external factors are to blame for the Pub s revenue decline, for the only internal
factor to compromise the pub s business is the lack of change and innovation to the
bar atmosphere and scenic value. Overall the Fork and Dagger Pub has been
identified as unfocused market strategy, and in need of a desperate change, for it
cannot keep up with new and growing businesses in the local area.
The Fork and Dagger Pub has currently two business proposals to help improve and
regain revenue for the establishment. Richard s two sons, Jason Bradley, both has
prepared general ideas of where they can take the business s target market. Jason s
business proposal involves changing the restaurant s old and outdated dГ©cor and
working on promoting the business to compete with others bars. His plan outlines
purchasing pool tables ($5000 each), karaoke machine ($1500), DJ nights ($75 $125
an hour), as well as overall renovating the interior (base at $6000) and changing for
new tables and chairs at $2000 a piece. He also hasn t really focused on the
promotion side, but has ideas for Ladies Night, Happy Hour as well as utilizing social
media campaigns to give out coupons for drinks or food. Bradley s business proposal
requires rather a change of target market. Bradley and his partner are apart of the
LGBT community, (Lesbian, Gay, Bi sexual Transsexual) and
Anselm and the proof for the existence of God
Introduction In the middle ages there were many ideas of the existence of God but
there was one common thing that everyone knew, God existed. Although everyone
agreed that God existed, philosophers such Anselm tried to prove God s existence
anyway. In the passage Prosolgium, Anselm is trying to prove the existenceof God to
Ganilo by giving two approaches. The goal of the dialog is to prove that the
combination accepting that God exists and not believing that God exists is not
possible. The conclusion of Anselm s proofs are that God exists. In order to
understand where Anselm is coming from we have to have some background
information. Anselm is speaking to Ganilo about the fool, in other words the atheists,
that understands two important aspects of God. The first is that he accepts that claim
that God exists and the second is that he does not believe in the existence of God. The
next big piece of Anselm s proofs is his definition of God which is that than which
nothing greater can be thought . The definition is stating that it is not possible for
something greater then God to be thought. Knowing these two very important aspects
of information we can dive into the argument itself. Proofs for the Existence of God
As mentioned before, Anselm comes with two proofs for the existence of God and
we will start with the first proof. The first proof begins with Anselm s definition of
God which is that than which nothing great can be thought. The definition is saying
that God

  • 1. Homeless To Harvard Essay Writing an essay on the journey from homelessness to Harvard can be a challenging yet rewarding task. This topic requires a delicate balance between portraying the hardships faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and highlighting the resilience and determination that lead to academic success. One of the challenges is to provide a nuanced perspective, avoiding oversimplification of the complexities surrounding homelessness. It involves thorough research to understand the various factors contributing to homelessness, such as economic disparities, mental health issues, and social stigmas. Additionally, capturing the emotional and psychological aspects of the journey demands a thoughtful and empathetic approach. The narrative should be compelling, engaging readers while shedding light on the societal issues that exacerbate homelessness. Striking the right tone is crucial – it should be both sensitive and inspirational without veering into clichГ©s or sensationalism. Balancing the personal story with broader social commentary requires a skillful hand to ensure the essay is not only captivating but also thought-provoking. Moreover, weaving the narrative towards the ultimate triumph of gaining admission to Harvard involves skillful storytelling. • 3. Women s Role In Japanese History Throughout the early history of Japan, the place and roles of women have inconsistencies due to the several religious influences of the time period. During the early parts of Japan s history, views of women have gone through many progressions and regressions. With the integration of Shinto and Buddhism, the female identity was turned into a contradiction. The significant roles of Japanese women in a deep matriarchal society shifted to a reluctant acceptance of confinement, as history progresses. In the early stages of Japan s history, women played an integral part in Shinto religion. Beginning in the JЕЌmon period, the importance of women was quickly highlighted through the founding of female clay fertility figurines. These clay figurines could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with the Nara period, female monks were included in the temple system and were given increased roles in the priestly functions similar to those of their male peers (Ambros 55). Japanese women were able to participate in Buddhist traditions in many ways. Women were able to become nuns and even significant female monarchs played a role in spreading Buddhism throughout Japan. The inclusion of women is also seen in several important Buddhist texts, such as the Lotus Sutra, which assured women of their potential for Buddhahood despite recognizing the physical limitations of their body (Ambros 50). However, during the later Heian period, the positive views of women in religion began to decline significantly because of anti feminine Buddhist doctrines. The decline of women in religion is connected with the Five Obstructions, which shows the need for female to male transformation in order to reach nirvana (Ambros 55), and Three Obediences, which depicts the pollution associated with female reproduction (Ambros 55), in Buddhism. An example of these two doctrines includes the story of The Dragon King s Daughter. The story of the Dragon King s Daughter is located in the Lotus Sutra, a key text in Mahayana Buddhism. The story of the dragon king s daughter is significant as the story reveals that women can only reach Buddhahood through the transformation into male bodies (Ueki 279). This story undermines the general inclusiveness of Buddhism, which was preached during the Nara period. Also, later in the Heian period, the marital rules deeply added to the exclusion of women in Japanese society. For example, The Tale of Genji, a romanticized Heian story, glorified forcible sexual violation, meaning rape (Ambros 57) and consensual sexual violation, meaning adultery (Ambros 57). Ultimately, this story normalizes and justifies polygyny and male dominance in marriage. The

Spaghetti is one of the most popular meals at restaurants and, even in our homes. • 12. Galileo Church v. Hero Essay Galileo Church v. Hero It is a volatile point in history: the intersection of science and religion at the height of the Inquisition; it is a time when the Church reigns and a man, a physicist, must choose life or death, himself or science. Galileo Galilei s legendary dilemma and the circumstances surrounding it are presented in Bertolt Brecht s Galileo from a perspective that is clearly criticizing institutions with such controlГіin this case, the Catholic churchГіwhile reminding us that men are simply men, no matter how heroic their actions appear. These issues are expounded throughout the play; however, Scene 11 has the most significant role in Galileo s development, as it simultaneously reveals the extent of the Church s control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scene subtly reveals the evil at the heart of the Inquisition: the Church, which should be Godly in practice, partakes in torturing individuals capable of testing the power of the institution, forcing them to conform to the Church s will and thereby eliminating any danger of upheaval. The Inquisitor states, He is a man of the flesh. He would soften at once (Brecht 109). This describes the basic human instinct to shrink from pain. Every man has his breaking point, the point at which the pain and the fear and the shame are so great that he cannot withstand one moment more. Galileo is no different. Also, Galileo is a man of scienceГіhe knows more of how pain can be inflicted than most men. As the Inquisitor later adds, Mr. Galilei understands machinery (Brecht 110). With this knowledge added to the fear of physical discomfort, Galileo later does what most men would do under the circumstances: he recants. Because this scene reveals the negative side of the Church and the human ness of Galileo, the audience is not distracted from the criticism of the institution. If Galileo had been portrayed as a hero, that aspect of the story would have taken precedence over the theme of institutional control; the heroics would linger and the criticism would be forgotten. Brecht is also reminding us that heroes are unnecessaryГіman is capable of
  • 13. History Of Split Brain Research Split Brain Research History of split brain research Walter Dandy, an American neurosurgeon unintentionally paved the way into research on split brain patients in the 1930s. Split Brain refers to patients who have had their corpus callosum severed to some extent or in whole. This procedure was mainly used as an extremely invasive surgical procedure within patients suffering from intractable epileptic seizures. The corpus callosum consists of over 200 million nerve fibres connecting the left and right hemispheres of the brain and enables corresponding regions to communicate. During one of Dandy s surgeries, he had to cut through corpus callosum of a patient in order to get to an underlying pineal tumour. Following surgery, Dandy observed and performed psychological and cognitive tests and concluded that splitting the corpus callosum did not cause any changes in cognitive behaviour In the 1940s, Theordore Erickson performed experiments on monkeys, in which it became apparent that the corpus callosum plays a role in epileptic seizure spread. Neurosurgeons William Van Wagenen and R. Yorke Herren took this even further by performing and pioneering the first known callostomy the surgical sectioning of the corpus callosum specifically to combat epileptic seizures. Prior to and after surgery a series of tests were performed on these patients by a colleague psychiatrist Andrew John Akelaitis. These tests included I.Q., motor skills, and memory testing and general interviews.

  • 15. The Single Transferable Vote System The Single Transferable Vote system is a system that was invented by a mathematician whose processes are lengthy and confusing to the people who actually use it to implement change: voters. The currently used Single Member Plurality system is widely understood and the best system for Manitoban voters. While some may argue that the Single Transferrable Vote system is a superior method of electing members of government in Manitoba, due to the unfamiliarity with candidates, lack of voter involvement, and confusing nature of the system, the current Single Member Plurality system is more effective and reflective of the actual views of the electors. All electoral systems must take into account five consequences: proportionality, local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alleged problems with the proportionality under SMP that STV seem to solve, may be more beneficial on a national level, rather than on a provincial level as the population size is much smaller and less diverse, therefor voters needs are far more similar than on a national level. The second consequence of electoral systems is referred to as local representation. LP is extremely poor in STV yet is excellent in SMP. This is the case because the current system elects one MLA per riding and has much smaller constituencies, making contact between the voter and their MLA more feasible and likely easier to get in contact with. Once constituencies grow and become large in size, like it has a tendency to do in STV, there becomes a need for multi member parties required for one riding. Local representation under STV becomes an issue for voters when constituents are too geographically large as contact with representatives become few and far between. Large constituents with multiple members representing them, seem to be the answer to the problem at hand, however there is no guarantee that there will be enough candidate interest to support these constituents under STV. For example, if many of the towns in Northern Manitoba were grouped into one constituent, due to the sheer amount of travel that would be required by candidates, it would be very difficult to find enough candidates willing to sign up, and even more difficult for voters to engage face to face

Grant Purpose Southern Dominion Health Systems invites the investment from the ADA Foundation of $5000.00 to improve the quality of oral health through education in our underserved and vulnerable population of Lunenburg County. This grant will be for a one year period. Problem/Background Oral health care is not uniformly attainable across the nation (Fineberg, H, 2011, p. ix). Unfortunately, individuals who face the greatest barriers to care are often among the most vulnerable members of our society (Yi, G., Logan, H. L., Dodd, V. J., Muller, K. E., Marks, J. G., Riley III, J. L. 2014). It has been said that low health literacy may be associated with barriers to accessing care and with oral health behaviors such as seeking preventive care (Ratzan S, Parker R., 2000). It has also been suggested that those with low health literacy are at highest risk for oral diseases and problems (Horowitz, A., Kleinman D., 2012). The impact of unmet oral health care needs is magnified by the well established connection between oral health and overall health (Fineberg, H. 2011, p. ix). Oral health status is linked with general health, as evidenced by the association between poor oral health and chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disease. Poor oral hygiene can also lead to other health issues such as, oral facial pain and digestive problems. The silent epidemic of oral diseases disproportionately affects disadvantaged communities,

  • 22. Abraham Maslow Impact Abraham Maslow had a positive impact on life. Maslow wanted a career that would change the world, and he achieved just that. He developed his influential hierarchy of inborn needs in the 1940 s. During WWII, Maslow got into a different field: the study of emotionally healthy, high achieving men and women, which would later be called self actualizing. He was known for his groundbreaking studies on personality and motivation, and his concepts like self actualization, peak experience, and synergy have become part of our everyday language. Abraham Harold Maslow was an American psychologist who is best known for creating Maslow s hierarchy of needs, and discovering self actualization. Men normally are said to be better at dealing with stress psychologically, so it makes sense they would go to a job where there s a lot of work stress. A lot of the ideas about the pay of men and women are different. There has been a constant debate the past few years on whether college athletes, particularly football players, should get paid. In 1988, the Nebraska legislature passed a bill that would allow the University of Nebraska football players to receive better cash incentives. The bill was later vetoed by Governor Kay Orr, who was governor of Nebraska at the time (O Toole etal. 2). . But the bill is getting exploited by NCAA rules and by the official in the Big 12. According to Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg, the bill, if passed in Nebraska, has a slim chance of passing in other states that has schools in the Big 12. He states, At this point, I know of no other state legislative activity that relates to a bill like this (cite). Weiberg expands on how he is not alone in this decision by saying, Our presidents and chancellors have been uniformly opposed to any plan that would give the appearance of play for pay (O Toole etal. 2). With these statements it seems like Chambers doesn t have good position in getting the bill passed, but the bill can initiate an argument saying that if college athletes do not get paid, the temptation of illegal consumption of money by athletes could rise. In agreeing with Weiberg, Wally Renfro, who is an assistant to NCAA president Myles Brand, states, It (the bill) shouldn t happen for two reasons. One is philosophical. It s not the model of intercollegiate athletics. Second, it s impractical. They re basically talking, I think, about paying football players. What I mean by that is; it has the capabilities to surround the viewer with its imagery and play with the emotions. Paintings are particulary effective in doing this through the use of color tones and temperature . For example; El Greco used a lot of blue and green throughout his body of work. The outcome is that the subject matter comes off as ghostly and perhaps a little alien. This is in high contrast to Georgia O Keeffe s desert paintings, which utilise reds, yellows, and browns to create a warm and appealing landscape. Both Velazquez s Old Woman and Rembrandt s Prodigal Son are bathed in (or painted in) golden yellow tones. While both are wearing clothes of differing colors, each pigment is mixed with a little yellow, white, or light brown to give warmth to the figure. This helps them to contrast to the very dark background. I like how Rembrandt has figures in the background that are almost indiscernable. By being part of the opposing (darker) tonal group, we as viewers are shown that they are not the most important part of the portrait; that the son and father are. Velazquez, however, chooses to have all elements of interest in the lighter tones in his painting, leaving the back as a dark void of mystery. Van Gogh is probably one of the most interesting painters concerning tonality. His purposeful usage of one color in a body of work is a strong reference to emotion (particularly in his portraits). His expressive brush work swirls the blues, and slight yellow and green, around his face. Even his skin has a bluish hue. These elements describe a somber or sorrowful state of mind. Its as almost if the troubles around him are seeping into his skin (like the blue). That being said, tonality is both the friend of the artist and the art lover. It is a wonderful story

In the passage Prosolgium, Anselm is trying to prove the existenceof God to Ganilo by giving two approaches. The goal of the dialog is to prove that the combination accepting that God exists and not believing that God exists is not possible. The conclusion of Anselm s proofs are that God exists. In order to understand where Anselm is coming from we have to have some background information. Anselm is speaking to Ganilo about the fool, in other words the atheists, that understands two important aspects of God. The first is that he accepts that claim that God exists and the second is that he does not believe in the existence of God. The next big piece of Anselm s proofs is his definition of God which is that than which nothing greater can be thought .
