Introduction
components of boilers
• components of boilers are divided in two phase-
a) Boiler Accessories
b) Boiler Mountings
a) Boiler Accessories
Feed pump
Super heater
Economizer
Air preheater
Feed pump
superheater
A superheater is a device used to convert saturated steam or wet steam
into superheated steam or dry steam.
economiser
An economizer is a device used to heat feed water by
utilizing the heat in the exhaust flue gases before leaving
through the chimney.
Air preheater
An air preheater (APH) is a device designed to heat air
before another process
Boiler Mountings
• 1. Water level indicator. (Water gauge)
2. Main steam stop valve.
3. Pressure gauge.
4. Feed check valve.
5. Fusible plug.
6. Blow down valve. (Blow off cock)
7. Air vent.
8. Safety valve.
Boilers parts
Types of boilers
• Generally there are two types of boilers:-
a) water tube boiler
b) fire tube boiler
Water tube boilers
• Boiler water passes
through the tubes while
the exhaust gases
remain in the shell side,
passing over the tube
surfaces
• Merit is can be used as
high capacity steam
• Demerit is high capital
cost and efficient
control system needed
Fire Tube Boiler
• The combustion gases
pass inside boiler tubes,
and heat is transferred
to water on the shell
side.
• Steam rate is lower than
water tube boiler
Additional important boiler (subject point of
view)
• High pressure boiler
• Lamont boiler
• Benson boiler
• Velox boiler
High pressure boiler
• A boiler is called a high-pressure boiler when it operates with a steam
pressure above 80 bars. The high-pressure boilers are widely used for
power generation in thermal power plants.
Features of high pressure boiler
• Forced circulation of water
• Large number of small diameter tubes
• Higher steam pressure and temperature
• Pressurized combustion
Advantages of High-pressure Boilers
 The plant efficiency is increased.
 scale formation is minimized.
 They require less heat of vaporization.
 the steam generation is economical.
Lamont boiler
• A LaMont boiler is a type
of forced circulation water-
tube boiler .
• The mechanical pump is
employed in order to have
an adequate and positive
circulation in steam and hot
water boilers
• internally fired water tube
boiler.
Advantages of lamont boiler
1. It can high pressure boiler.
2. It is flexible in design.
3. This boiler can reassemble in natural circulation
boiler.
4. It can easily start.
5. It has high steam generation capacity of about 50
ton/ hour.
6. This boiler has higher heat transfer rate.
Benson boiler
• It is a water tube boiler
• generate high pressure
steam
Advantages Of Benson Boiler
• 1. The Benson boiler does not use water-steam separator drum, which
reduce the total cost of boiler.
• 2. This boiler can transport easily from one station to another.
• 3. It is economical and have higher efficiency.
• 4. This boiler can use over the pressure above 350 bar without changing
the evaporator.
• 5. This can be start easily and can reach its maximum load capacity within
10 minutes.

Velox boiler
• velox boiler is a forced circulation water tube boiler.
• In this boiler, the velocity of flue gases is greater than the velocity of sound,
which causes more heat transfer from gas to the water, which increases the steam
generation rate. Due to this, it is most important boiler.
Thank you
