What is Boiler Mounting ?
 These are different fittings and devices
which are necessary for opration and
safety of the Boiler.
 These devices , usually are mounted
over the boiler shell.
Types of Valve
 Two safety valves
 A steam stop valves
 A feed check valves
 Fusible plug
 A blow off cock
Blow off cock Valve
Functions:
 To discharge a portion of water when the boiler is
in oprations to blow out mud, scale periodically.
 To empty the boiler, when necessary for
cleaning,inspection and repair.
Construction:
 It is very commonly used with all types of boilers.
 It is consists of Plug P.This Plug P is made of Gun
Metal.
 This Plug fits into hollow conical body B.
 It is fitted on the top of the shank S.
 This yoke keeps the plug in its position with the
help of studs T.
 The top of shank has a square guide.
Working:
 In order to operate the valve, the rectangular slot is
brought in line with the passage of the body.
 This is possible by rotating the plug with the help of
wheel.when the slot is placed in the position, the
cock is opened and all the
impurities,mud,sediments etc.
 Start flowing out of the boiler and they are removed
 When the slot is brought at right angle to the
passage of the body, the cock is closed.
Safety Valve
 Function : It is a devise to the steam
space of the boiler shall, which opens
automatically to discharge some steam
and to prevent the steam pressure inside
the boiler to exceed.Types of Safety Valve
 (a) Dead-Weight safety valve
 (b) Laver-weight safety valve
 (c) Spring loaded safety valve
 (d) High steam and low-water safety
Valve
Spring loaded safety Valve
Functions:
 It is used with locomotive and marine boiler.
 It is used through stationary type boiler.
Construction:
 These valves are placed on their seat in the upper ends
of two hollow standard C.These standard C are united
by bridge B and a flange or base A.
 This valve is fitted to the steam space of the boiler shell
with help of the base A,It is fitted on the top of the
boiler,over the fire-box.
 This spring is made round or square spring steel wire.
 The valve is also held down by lever L.
 The laver has two pivots P and Q.P is joined to the lever
by pin while Q is forged by on the lever.
Working:
 The valves are lifted from their seats and allow the
steam to escape to the atmosphere when the
pressure of the steam inside the boiler shell
exceeds the normal working pressure.
 The valve will remain the open position till the
pressure falls below the specified limit.
 The valve are brought back to rest on their seats by
the spring force.
Advantages:
 It is not affected by jerks and vibrations.
 Heavy weights are eliminated.
 Maintenance and examination is easy.
Disadvantage:
As the valve open the force exerted by the spring
increases.
