countless emotions without saying a word. And unlike some forms
of nonverbal communication, facial expressions are universal. The
facial expressions for happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear,
and disgust are the same across cultures.
• Posture can provide a
significant amount of
important information
through nonverbal

about: Interpersonal rel

traits such as
confidence,
submissiveness, and
openness.

bodily actions communicate particular messages, either in place
of, or in conjunction with, speech. Gestures include movement of
the hands, face, or other parts of the body.

the shoulder, a warm hug, a pat on the back etc.
