2. Mise en scene
Setting:
The setting used in this video is a school however it is shot in
different locations around the school, this is very
conventional of pop music videos. The location we see is of the
school building itself, this automatically shows the viewer
that the video is based around teenagers which is also the
target audience for most pop artists.
The second location they use is the library when they are
studying, this scence begins with the lyrics: 'full of honey'.
This scene shows the room full of students which makes it
easy to relate with as the majority of viewers will be in school.
The third location used is a dorm room. The room also
makes it easy for the target audience to relate with the
artists as the room is full of typical items such as a bookcase
and a desk.
3. Highkey lighting is used throughout the video, this is typical of
pop music videos as it helps to create a happy and cheerful
atmosphere. This is evident in the second verse when they are
walking down the hall towards the boy.
Another example of high key lighting is towards the end when
they are singing the lines: 'falling in love' as they are walking
down the hall in slow motion, as the students around them are
smiling, dancing and chucking paper into the air. This helps add
to the atmosphere as everybody is elated and shows them
having a good time.

Lighting &
Colour
The colours in the video are bright and vibant which again
conforms to the conventions of a pop music video as reflects the
mood of the genre.
4. COSTUMES &
PROPS
The costume they wear at the start of the video is very generic and ordinary.
However, after they cast the spell the costumethey wear is more glamorous
and bright and therfore more appealing to the target audience. This is
because it stands out more and will give the viewers more confidence to wear
what they want and be theirselves.
The props used in the video are very relative to the target audience, they are
seen walking around with books for class.
5. CAMERAWORK
An establishing shot is used at the
start of the video, it introduces the
location for the audience. It again
allows the audience to relate because
it is a school and a place they would be
familiar with, as the target audience is
teens.
A close up of each member is used, it shows them lip synching which is a
convention of pop music videos. It also allows the viewers to see their
emotions and empathise with them. Their emotions at this part of the song
are happy and excited as they have the found the book of magic which will
help them grab the attention of the b0y they like.
6. A low angle is used which shows the
camera looking up at the artists. This
also shows the emotions of the artists
but from a different point of view. It
allows the audience to feel as if they are
in the video and as if they are looking
down at them. Low angles are typically
used to show power and status, it could
be argued that it has been used because
now they have found the book they
have gained power and are now in
control.
A long shot is used to show the audience the artist's costume after they
have cast the spell. It also shows their stance and how they are now
confident because they have all the power and attention.
7. Editing
A dissolve is used to transition
between the scene in the room and
when they are walking down the
hall. The new scene starts with the
lyrics: 'if you're looking for mister
right'. The transition is smooth and
emphasises that they have
transitioned too.
Shot reverse shot is used when they are staring at the guy. It first shows him and then cuts to the girl's
looking at him in awe and then back to the guy. This would appeal to the target audience as they would be
able to relate and empathise with them as they have a crush.
