- A biopsy is the removal of tissue for diagnostic examination and includes oral cytology, aspiration biopsy, incisional biopsy, and excisional biopsy. - It is important to properly prepare for and handle biopsy specimens to avoid altering the tissue and properly orient the pathologist. - If biopsy results do not match the clinical impression, the biopsy should be repeated at an oral pathology expert to accurately diagnose the lesion.
