Miami is a Non Profit organization that serves adults and children with disabilities. UCO has a day

consequences for violating the rules. The three issues faced by the principal are, did the student violate
the school s drug/ weapon policy, what was the student s intent, and lastly, what should the
consequences be for the student s actions? In the first case an African American female was
discovered taking a pill that she claimed was allergy medication. The school district defines drugs as
marijuana or a controlled substance as defined by 21 U.S.C. Section 801 et seq.; or a dangerous drug
otherwise defined in the State Safety code. The penalty is immediate assignment to the alternative
school for one semester. In order to determine if the student violated the drug policy I would contact
the student s parents to get confirmation that the student is taking the medication with the parent s

medication to the person who witnessed the student taking the pill to confirm that the pills in the bottle

The United States prides itself on being a democracy in which equal opportunity and the pursuit of
happiness are guaranteed rights for all citizens. There is no uncertainty in the loyalty that Americans
have towards this promise of natural, unalienable rights. However, as Michael Foucault explains in
Discipline and Punish, the power structures present in society infringe on our rights to equal
opportunity and happiness by forcing us to abide by social norms and expectations. Using Barbara
Ehrenreich s experience as a low wage worker in Nickel and Dimed as an example, it is clear that the
power structure of observation that Foucault describes disciplines low wage workers to behave and
live in a way society deems appropriate.
In order to understand the power structures present in her description of life as a low wage worker in
Nickel and Dimed, we need to first understand Michael Foucault s philosophy regarding discipline
and surveillance. Rather than perceive power and discipline as strictly political and authoritative,

I think that the only way that you would be able to handle that is to go through modeling to re teach
your mind that those instances do not have to always associate with the traumatic event. Although this
may take a large amount of time since it would be hard to control when a flashback is going to occur
and how long they will be stuck in that frame of mind. Possibly hypnosis could help with this. I think
some younger kids know that if they throw a fit about something or threaten violence they will get
what they want. I think that this is hard to deal with. How do you gauge if the threats are real or if it
