Comparing Bachelor s Degrees
Several consistent messages emerge from looking at the wages of graduates across institutions. One is
that graduates first year earnings range widely. In all five states, at least $18,000 separates the schools
where bachelor s graduates earn the most from schools where graduates earned the least during their
first year on the job. The difference between master s graduates from different institutions ranges from
more than $10,000 in Arkansas to more than $40,000 in Tennessee and Texas. At the master s level,
across the states, graduates with degrees in mechanical engineering, computer/information sciences,
and mathematics are the highest paid, with chemistry graduates also earning more than graduates from
the remaining fields. In Texas, where

Persuasive Essay About Bad Driving
My best friend will likely be the death of me, but I still love her. I have known her for three years and
would trust her with anything, or so I thought. Everything changed the moment she got her license.
Suddenly the need for coffee was completely eliminated, and all I had to do was ride to school with
her. Through many close encounters and two accidents so far, I have learned the definition of a terrible
driver. Every ride with her is an adventure involving skipped stop signs, speeding, and near collisions.
She is the reason why many adults believe that teenagers should not their license because of poor
driving. The first thing I do when I get inside her car is buckle my seatbelt and prepare myself for the
journey ahead. The entire time she is behind the wheel, I am on the edge of my seat checking her
speedometer and watching for children and other cars. Subconsciously, my hands curl around the seat
belt and tightly grip it when I notice a sharp turn or speed bump ahead. I do my best to not make a
sound, but I sometimes catch myself mentioning the turning car ahead. My friend snaps at me and
assures me that she knows what she is doing, but I am not convinced. Only when the car is in park and
my shoes touch solid ground, am I able to breathe normally.
When you are taught to drive, the instructor emphasizes the importance of being aware of your
surroundings and reacting to them. In spite of this being the essence of driving, my friend is oblivious
to everything around

Aaron Beck s Theory Of Depression
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Different studies showed that adolescents do not sleep adequately and inadequate sleep is usually
related with greater risk for depression, furthermore studies usually get urban adolescents as their
sample and scarcity of research in rural adolescents (Daly, 2015).
Sleep disturbance is the great cause for depression, functional impairment, falls, poor quality of life,
and poor health (Martin, 2010). Furthermore according to the American Psychiatric Association
(2013), sleep disorders usually come along with depression, anxiety and cognitive changes. One of the
major causes of the problem of disease in the world is depression (Lee et al., 2014). Depression is a
kind of feeling where one is overwhelmed by feelings of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory was developed by Aaron Beck in 1967. The said theory is a diathesis stress model
associated to predisposing factors, the factors that cause people to become hopeless or vulnerable
when depressed, precipitating factors, the events that cause people vulnerability, and perpetuating
factors, the factors that maintain and cause of return of the depression (Grant et al., 2010).
According to Beck negative dysfunctional attitudes could be the cause of cognitive triad which is
thinking in a way of seeing the self, the world and the future negatively (Possel Black, 2013). Beck
(1967) said that people who are depressed perceive the world with many hindrances and this person
communicates with the environment negatively.
Esbensen and associates (2007) reported that people who are depressed limit their rational and
obvious explanations and automatically perceive situations negatively. And also Brewin (1998) stated
that existence of depressing thoughts affects individual s ability to process information consciously
that could cause symptoms for depression namely, sleep disturbance, delusions, cognitive and motor
slowing and lack of

Research Paper On Science And Religion
Science and Religion
When you think of science and religion you automatically think that they are the polar opposite of one
another, and while yes they do tend to have conflicting sides to them, they actually have some things
in common. This goes without saying that they do have varying ideas on certain topics which will be
discussed. Of the plethora of different topics, we will be discussing the views of science and religion
on, homosexuals, evolution, afterlife, and purpose. Not only will we be talking about those topics, we
will also discuss the variety of conflicting views of different religions. Many of these topics are
controversial and many religions will have different views, some may be violent, some peaceful,
whilst others may be indifferent. Regardless of the position that everyone takes we all just want to
understand or feel like we understand the universe and why we are here. We will start off with science,
science in many cases is stoic and homosexuality is not an exception, but regardless of the stoicism,
the fact is you see it in nature, in a book published by Simon LeVay, a neuroscientist from the
University of Harvard, Gottingen, and Cambridge, he states about 10% of rams (male) refuse to mate
with ewes (females) but do readily mate with other rams (LeVay, 2010, pg 70 71). The next topic for
examination is Evolution, or as some creationists may say the theory of evolution , and yes it is a
theory, but in science when something is a theory it is the

Human Rights Violation in the Philippines
Human Rights Violation in the Philippines
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and
conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Human rights describe equal rights and freedom for everybody by the fact of being human and
without distinction of any kind of race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinions.
However, many people have always suffered from the lack of them throughout history. In fact, the
lack of human rights has a lot of effects on people lives.

The term freedom of expression is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of seeking,
receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to
freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations,
such as on libel, slander, obscenity, incitement to commit a crime, etc. The right to freedom of
expression is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and
Political Rights (ICCPR). Article 19 of the ICCPR states that [e]veryone shall have the right to hold
opinions without interference and everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right
shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of
frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his
choice .
Human rights is a concept that has been constantly evolving throughout human history. They have
been present in the laws, customs and religions all throughout the ages. The ideas of human rights are
present in the ancient world.

King Lear and Death of a Salesman Essay
Social pressures change as time passes, therefore it is interesting to see how these three texts whom
differ by almost four hundred years perceive society and the effect this has on the protagonists;
Shakespeare s King Lear which was first performed in 1606 during the Jacobean era, presents a
patriarchal society. Whilst, Arthur Miller uses the characters in Death of a salesman to show the failure
of the American dream during the golden era of America in the late 40 s. The American Dream was a
set of ideals which suggested that anyone in the US could be successful through hard work, and had
the potential to live a happy life. The sense of the deterioration in the equality of opportunities links to

Moreover, throughout the play the upbringing of Biff and Happy can be seen mirroring the childhood

Football Is Dangerous And Something That Should Not Be...
Football is considered to be dangerous and something that should not be played or watched by people.
The game should be played and watched because a lot of players work hard to fight towards the
ultimate goal of making it in the National Football League despite the possibilities of injury. It is the
player s responsibility to know when it is time for them to walk away and take the proper safety
procedures to keep them from injuring themselves. The players work hard and do plenty of
conditioning to try to keep them in shape and prevent their bodies from breaking down. Many kids
who play do it because they love the game and they gladly take the risk of injury. Football is very
popular for viewers as well. The National Football League saw a rise in ratings following the wild
card weekend this year compared to last years. Many TV networks saw a rise in ratings such as NBC,
CBS, and FOX. According to Michael David Smith of profootballsports.nbcsports.com Despite
predictions of drops in ratings due to concussions, domestic violence, or other issues the sport still
continues to thrive .The sport is becoming more and more popular and many people believe we should
watch it even though there is problems that make some people not want to watch the game. Some
people believe football should not be watched or played due to injuries and some players being bad
role models towards children. Concussions are a major reason why people believe football is a bad
thing because they can

Nuclear Energy In Australia Essay
Introduction
Recently, there has been debates on whether or not Australia should result to nuclear energy for some
of its energy source. The main issue is to do with the risk when nuclear energy is used. The chance of
a nuclear disaster in a nuclear power plant is actually incredibly small, however, if the risk does occur,
the consequence is devastating. (Gary Was, 2015). Australia also currently has no nuclear power
generators, which is a surprise since it owns about 31% of the world s uranium resources. (Wikipedia,
Last Modified 16 July 2015). Back in February 8th this year, Premier Jay Weatherill, said that there
would be a, mature and robust conversation about South Australia s future participation in a nuclear
fuel cycle, including the prospects for setting up nuclear power stations, uranium enrichment plants
and a nuclear waste dump in the state. (George Lekakis, 2015).
How it works
Nuclear power plants work by turning water into steam. This steam then turns the turbine generators
which produce the electricity. This works much like a fossil fuel way of ... Show more content on

Drugs Should Be Banned For Professional Sports
Drug Use In Sports
Ninety eight percent of professional athletes say that they would take performance enhancing drugs if
they didn t have a chance of getting caught. Performance enhancing drugs, or PEDs, or steroids, have
been around since 776 BC when the Greeks would use them to improve their performance in the
Olympic Games. During World War II, the Germans, including Hitler, would take steroids to make
themselves stronger and more aggressive. The Americans, British, and Japanese also began to use
steroids during World War II shortly after Germany. After the war, athletes started to get their hands on
these drugs and began to use them to boost their performance. More recently, athletes such as
bicyclist, Lance Armstrong and baseball player, Alex Rodriguez have been caught using performance
enhancers. While there are some people that believe performance enhancing drugs should be illegal in
professional sports, some say they should be legal because using the drugs should be the athlete s
decision, not someone else s and steroid use could possibly even make the sport more fair than it is
today.
Athletes in professional sports should be allowed to make their own decision whether or not to use
performance enhancers. If athletes prefer the gains in performance allegedly provided by the use of
steroids and they understand that there is a chance that the steroids could have a negative effect on
their bodies then what gives anyone the right to interfere with their choice?

The Influence Of Swing Music In The 1930 s
As the rest of the world suffered from the trauma that was bought by the Great Depression in 1930 s
America, Jazz was at its all time high. With the transition into the swing era, Jazz musicians and Jazz
listeners grew and transformed. The music, which now incorporated faster tempos, more band
members with more and different instruments, more solo improvisation and an overall looser, less
rhythmic feeling , and swing music had become a new craze sought out by not only other jazz
musicians but dancers, and whites and blacks alike. Swing music was brought north during the Great
Migration were most Jazz musicians in New Orleans relocated to the north to escape Jim Crow laws
and racism in the south. These musicians mostly stayed in Harlem and influenced Jazz music very
much during this era. During the swing era, two types of bands arose in New York and the Eastern
Coast. Hot bands were bands that played aggressively and fast tempos. It was music that challenges its
dancers athletically. Swing music was the reason new dances emerged during the 30 s and 40 s. The
Lindy Hop, probably one of the most popular swing dance styles in where partners would throw each
other in the air occasionally, originated in Harlem and was danced in night clubs as well as private

and were slower and flowed more smoothly. Dancers of this style would do more conservative

usually stuck to the composition more closely while hot bands emphasized improvisation. Dancehalls,
speakeasies, and ballrooms were new venues for Jazz music. We saw the birth of night clubs were

The Impact Of Social Communication On The Areas Of Social...
In the Fall of 2014, I observed weekly therapy sessions with a four year old boy diagnosed with
Autism Spectrum Disorder. The client was enrolled in an early childhood classroom and was having
difficulties independently participating in preschool activities due to his deficits in social skills, as
well as receptive and expressive language. More specifically, the client s deficits in social skills
consisted of problems employing eye contact, turn taking, joint attention, and theory of mind. This
case has inspired me to examine the literature on developmental milestones of social communication
in children from birth to age four. Social communication consists of social interaction, social
cognition, pragmatics, and expressive and receptive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ability to perceive, think about, understand, and interact with other people is known as social
cognition (Bennett, 1993). From a young age, children try to understand complex social situations and
eventually, anticipate and even control what the people around them do (Bennett, 1993). Effective
communication involves understanding and making inferences about others mental states such as their
knowledge, beliefs, intentions, desires, and emotions (Bennett, 1993). This understanding of mental
states is an aspect of social cognition known as Theory of Mind (Bennett, 1993). Theory of mind is
important for social interaction in order to understand and predict the actions and behaviors of the
people around us (Martin McDonald, 2003). In past research, it has been argued that children possess
a theory of mind (Bennett, 1993). However, the questioning does not stop here. The notion that
children have theory of mind leads researchers to ask additional questions such as: To what extent do
children actually understand the mental states of others? When do children begin to acquire this
knowledge of mind and how does this knowledge develop? Wellman (1990) and Perner (1991) both
claim that infants do not possess theory of mind. Perner (1991) argues that the social awareness, joint
attention, and emotional awareness seen in 9 12 month olds does not require understanding of adults
mental states,

Marjane Satrapi s Perspective Of Persepolis
Perspective of Persepolis Marjane Satrapi s perspective in Persepolis is unique because of her gender,
social status, and the danger around her. She is a young girl from a royal family when the Islamic
Revolution begins in Iran. She experiences many traumatic events in her childhood but is shielded by
a lot by her parents. Because of these things, her perspective is slightly altered and not entirely
accurate.
Being a female in Iran before the Islamic Revolution was not that different than being a female in
America, but after the Islamic Revolution, women were expected to wear hijabs, obey their husbands,
and conform to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes are shown in the
photo to the left. Marjane, being the stubborn girl she is, sees this double standard and does everything
she can to rebel against it, which gets her into some trouble. For example, she once had a run in with
the Guardians of the Revolution , who yelled at her for having symbols of decadence , like sneakers
and Michael Jackson pins, and for showing her hair below her headscarf (Satrapi 133). If she was not

Legalized Drinking
Legally Drinking In the United States Explaining the topic to any adult, they mainly all have the same
idea; teenagers just want to party, they do not act their age, but sometimes that is not always the case.
Once a male teenager turns eighteen, what does he have to sign up for by law? The draft. Teenagers
are always looked down upon once they become adults, as if older adults think they are not ready for
what is to come, but once they make a mistake against the law, the first thing to happens is they get
tried as an adult. In all of these situations, the same thing is reoccurring; any teenager that turns

Many young adults do not find that fair. What the law is saying is any young adult can be tried as an
adult but are not allowed to drink and adult beverage. To me, it does not sound fair to do; if anyone is
considered an adult by law, than by law they should be allowed to do adult things. By law, drinking
alcohol underage, or having possession of alcohol, can be a misdemeanor punishable up to a year in
jail, and a $4,000 fine. Personally, this just does not seem fair. Other examples of misdemeanors are:
simple assaults, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, indecent exposure, prostitution, theft,
trespassing, and vandalism. So, basically, domestic violence and underage drinking could end up
having the same punishment. Publically beating someone up and drinking at someone s house
underage does not seem like they fit in the same category; both are punishable up to a year with a
pretty hefty fine. Also, getting caught drinking and driving has the same punishment as just drinking
underage. To me, this almost encourages drunk driving because it has the same punishment, so, why

families and over time the community at large with the love of Jesus Christ. We appreciate the
confidence and support bestowed upon us in designing a ministry plan to care for both member and
non member elderly residents. It is our goal to establish a ministry that will be the hands and feet of
Christ, exemplifying His love and care for the aging in an encouraging positive manner through
ministry programs that are relevant and meaningful.

2. Many of the residents are unable to go outside for walks unassisted. A team of people have
volunteered to visit on a regular basis to walk outside with residents, and continue their walks and
friendships inside in inclement weather.
3. The strength trainer at our church has volunteered to teach and assist residents in their use of
weights and then lead a time of weight training on an ongoing basis as a part of this ministry. He will
also train other members to assist and lead in this area of ministry. Included with his strength training
he plans to talk about the strength found in Jesus Christ.
4. A dance instructor at our church has volunteered to do flexibility training along with teaching line
dancing, even with a wheel chair section, and then hold dances every other month.
Conclusion
The improvements in offerings related to the area of exercise fulfill the ministry purpose of helping
residents have a better quality of life, and the overall purpose of encouraging them through an
expression of God s love while pointing people to the hope found in Jesus Christ.

Community Options Advantages And Disadvantages
Advantages The organization I decided to survey was United Community options of Miami. UCO of
Miami is a Non Profit organization that serves adults and children with disabilities. UCO has a day
program for adults where they can participate in recreational activities, go on excursions and also offer
adults with disabilities employment skills training. United Community options was established in
1947 and has always aimed to being accessible for people with disabilities. The first thing I notice
when I entered the parking lot was that UCO had four accessible parking spots and out of those four
spots two are van accessible. They also have accessible drop off areas and accessible routes to get to
the entrance. The front door which is 64 inches wide is automatic and stays open until the person
passes through. The front door leads to the lobby which is very wide and has enough space for people
that use wheel chairs to enter without obstruction getting in the way. The whole building is leveled and
doesn t require ramps for the front entrance. Once past the front lobby there are a sequence of
hallways you can take in order to get where you want to. Most of the hall ways measure from 59
inches to 84 inches wide and are leveled. Most objects like fire extinguishers or drinking fountains or
signs protrude no more then four inches from the wall. United Community Options of Miami is a one
floor building and doesn t required the need to use elevators of any kind to access the

Effects Of Socialisation In South Africa
During the Apartheid era of oppression, Steve Biko explains in the 1970s that the black people of
South Africa were treated unfairly, to the extent to which their African identities were stolen due to
forced socialisation. The Apartheid government put in structures which purposefully taught these
Africans that their sole purpose was to serve subserviently to white South Africans, taking away their
culture and distancing them from their history. They achieved this my means of altering their
education, political privilege and spiritual poverty. Each of these aspects were altered by the Apartheid
government which contributed to the changed identity of the black South Africans. A power difference

The Apartheid political system was designed in such a way that black people were taught that their
cultures were, in fact, incorrect. From when they were born, they were taught of an adapted culture
which suited white people. This process of forced culture was abuse of socialisation; everything one
learns from when they are born which contributes to their personality and personal history. Steve Biko
describes that he was purely brought up in separate development, and that his entire life was shaped
by it. Depending on one s socialisation, the view of how you view yourself and others around you is
formed, this is identity. It can even be said that the identities of the black were stolen from them,
because identity means that we are all different, but the Apartheid system took away the uniqueness of
the black culture and taught them all to learn and believe the same thing. The way in which the black
people of South Africa were socialised, was to make them believe that the only purpose in life was to
be a servant to white people. Having this belief form part of their identity, it was never a thought for
them to be militant and fight the

Managed Health Care Issues Essay
When one examines managed health care and the hospitals that provide the care, a degree of variation
is found in the treatment and care of their patients. This variation can be between hospitals or even
between physicians within a health care network. For managed care companies the variation may be
beneficial. This may provide them with opportunities to save money when it comes to paying for their
policy holder s care, however this large variation may also be detrimental to the insurance company.
This would fall into the category of management of utilization, if hospitals and managed care
organizations can control treatment utilization, they can control premium costs for both themselves
and their customers (Rodwin 1996). If health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second category is preference (Kongstvedt, 2007). When the term preference is used, what it
means in this sense is that there is more than one way to cure the patient. This means that the patient
has a choice to make between the specific treatments. The patient s preference to certain treatments
defines how utilization management works. Patients in the same region may prefer a single treatment
to another or patients of a specific age demographic may opt out of surgery when a younger crowd
may see it as the only option (Kongstvedt, 2007). The third and final category of unwarranted care is
supply. The term does not refer to supplies as in the usage of equipment or tools needed to perform a
job. The word supply is referring to the treatment that is most available is the most often used in
regards to a patient s care. For instance, in a state that the majority of the population is elderly
patients, who use Medicare, will have higher per capita spending for Medicare patient s than the states
that do not have a high population of elderly residence using Medicare services (Rodwin 1996). With
these categories in place, managed health care organizations can group health care into these
categories and establish parameters for reducing cost and create cost effective utilization of health care
resource to all of their customers. Utilization management was set in place to contain costs, but one

Drug Abuse In School Drug Policy
The school district in these cases have very specific definitions of what drugs and weapons are and the
consequences for violating the rules. The three issues faced by the principal are, did the student violate
the school s drug/ weapon policy, what was the student s intent, and lastly, what should the
consequences be for the student s actions? In the first case an African American female was
discovered taking a pill that she claimed was allergy medication. The school district defines drugs as
marijuana or a controlled substance as defined by 21 U.S.C. Section 801 et seq.; or a dangerous drug
otherwise defined in the State Safety code. The penalty is immediate assignment to the alternative
school for one semester. In order to determine if the student violated the drug policy I would contact
the student s parents to get confirmation that the student is taking the medication with the parent s
knowledge and ask the parent to bring the bottle to confirm the medication. Then, I would show the
medication to the person who witnessed the student taking the pill to confirm that the pills in the bottle
are the same as the pill that they saw the student taking. Furthermore, I would have the student
examined by the nurse and monitor the student to see if any signs of impairment could be observed.
After determining if the student had violated the school s drug policy or not I would assign the in
school suspension for a few days because even over the counter drugs are not permitted

Castration Is Young Boys From 1600 To 1800 In Italian
In the year 1600 to 1800 in Italy, Castration is young boys was very common. Castration is the
surgical removal of the testicles, which gave allowed males to have the vocal range of a woman and
the lung capacity of a man. This practice however had to be allowed by the parents of the child.
Parents did this in hopes that their children would grow up to be an accomplished opera star. Opera
stars who had been castrated were paid the highest of all musicians. Parents could be doing this for the
possible benefit of their child, or to reap the benefits of having a wealthy child. Musical art is not

The blood in the body is made up of many different components. The components of the blood include

deficiency anemia includes extreme fatigue, pale skin, weakness, shortness of breath, chest pains,
frequent infections, headaches, dizziness, cold and feet, poor appetite and the list goes on (Mayo

For the Australian fairy tale, it has been a long journey in search of nationhood identity. With the
enduring legacy of Australia s history as a settler colony there was no surprise that it invested the
landscape with strangeness and it became a part of the dream like world within fairy tales. Through
the history of Australian literary culture, the mythology of the bush tradition has been a powerful
voice in the Australian cultural context, which continues to have strong force in creating national
identity. However, it has become an inaccurate form of cultural identity. Here I will show how the

Chinese American descent. Wang is struggling with the identity of his ethnicity. The central message
that the author wishes to pass across is to encourage young people to embrace their identities and
desist from judging people based on their culture, race, and appearance. Throughout the whole story,
the main players experience lack of self acceptance because of the treatments they receive from the
society. Ironically, this is the same society that should accept them as part of its own. Because of their
cultural and racial differences, teenagers are discriminated against by the society. As a result, these
young people resort in doing things that are detrimental to their social well beings (Yang, 2007). ...

Hence, this absence of kleos portrays Odysseus as calculating, merciless and dishonorable. This would
warn the shepherd not to try to steal from Odysseus as Orsilokhos attempted because Odysseus does
not care for glory and will slaughter him in any way he can whether or not it damages his reputation.
The images evoked from Troy, all I had fought and bled for , serve to somewhat justify his murder of
Orsilokhos and show some appreciation for honest work, when it serves him, and could function to
make the shepherd feel less fear towards a murderous foreigner. Mostly, this information gives the
shepherd a distinct warning not to attempt to harm or steal from him because not only is he a hardened

Nickel And Dimed Power Structures Essay
Power Structures in Nickel and Dimed
The United States prides itself on being a democracy in which equal opportunity and the pursuit of
happiness are guaranteed rights for all citizens. There is no uncertainty in the loyalty that Americans
have towards this promise of natural, unalienable rights. However, as Michael Foucault explains in
Discipline and Punish, the power structures present in society infringe on our rights to equal
opportunity and happiness by forcing us to abide by social norms and expectations. Using Barbara
Ehrenreich s experience as a low wage worker in Nickel and Dimed as an example, it is clear that the
power structure of observation that Foucault describes disciplines low wage workers to behave and
live in a way society deems appropriate.
In order to understand the power structures present in her description of life as a low wage worker in
Nickel and Dimed, we need to first understand Michael Foucault s philosophy regarding discipline
and surveillance. Rather than perceive power and discipline as strictly political and authoritative,
Foucault believes that society is structured in a way in which constant observation disciplines us to
abide by social norms and expectations. This constant surveillance is omnipresent in the sense that
observation occurs in all realms of society, from education to sexuality. To further explain this idea of
disciplining through constant inspection, Foucault describes Jeremy Bentham s panoptican, a type of
prison in which

Impact Of Marijuana On Society
Legalization of Marijuana:
Does it Impact Society?
Destiny Wright
Criminology 200
Abstract
The legalization of drugs has always been a big debate in the United States. For hundreds of years, our
citizens have argued over what they think would be best for our nation. From The War on Drugs to the
legalization of Marijuana in Colorado, the United States has transformed. Many believe that this was
the worst decision Congress could ever make and others think that this changes life for the better.
Although this had always been a great debate, there is nothing much that people could argue over now
that Marijuana is legalized in more than one state.

According to Chu (2015), as of July 2014, 22 states and the District of Columbia had passed laws that
allow individuals with designated conditions to use marijuana for medical purposes. Although the
direct effects of these laws are limited to legally qualified patients, it is a popular belief that
legalization of medical marijuana has increased illegal marijuana use among non patients as well (p.
482). This could be true, but it could also be inaccurate. Many people never told that they had already
used the drug before it became legalized, but after it did, many people were honest with their choices.
Chu also discovered that medical marijuana laws increase t proxies for marijuana consumption by
around 10 15 percent. However, there is no evidence that cocaine and heroin usage increases (p. 481).

Ptsd Trauma
Chapter five discussed trauma and stress disorders. Two of these disorders being acute stress disorder
and posttraumatic stress disorder. For this week s discussion we were asked to discuss what types of

boil water or something so simple just so my mom will jump in and help me but I continue to find
myself doing. However, I do think that having your parents available to help you when you need help
is extremely beneficial in your development throughout your

  • 4. Persuasive Essay About Bad Driving My best friend will likely be the death of me, but I still love her. I have known her for three years and would trust her with anything, or so I thought. Everything changed the moment she got her license. Suddenly the need for coffee was completely eliminated, and all I had to do was ride to school with her. Through many close encounters and two accidents so far, I have learned the definition of a terrible driver. Every ride with her is an adventure involving skipped stop signs, speeding, and near collisions. She is the reason why many adults believe that teenagers should not their license because of poor driving. The first thing I do when I get inside her car is buckle my seatbelt and prepare myself for the journey ahead. The entire time she is behind the wheel, I am on the edge of my seat checking her speedometer and watching for children and other cars. Subconsciously, my hands curl around the seat belt and tightly grip it when I notice a sharp turn or speed bump ahead. I do my best to not make a sound, but I sometimes catch myself mentioning the turning car ahead. My friend snaps at me and assures me that she knows what she is doing, but I am not convinced. Only when the car is in park and my shoes touch solid ground, am I able to breathe normally. When you are taught to drive, the instructor emphasizes the importance of being aware of your surroundings and reacting to them. In spite of this being the essence of driving, my friend is oblivious to everything around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sleep disturbance is the great cause for depression, functional impairment, falls, poor quality of life, and poor health (Martin, 2010). Furthermore according to the American Psychiatric Association (2013), sleep disorders usually come along with depression, anxiety and cognitive changes. One of the major causes of the problem of disease in the world is depression (Lee et al., 2014). Depression is a kind of feeling where one is overwhelmed by feelings of ... The said theory is a diathesis stress model associated to predisposing factors, the factors that cause people to become hopeless or vulnerable when depressed, precipitating factors, the events that cause people vulnerability, and perpetuating factors, the factors that maintain and cause of return of the depression (Grant et al., 2010). According to Beck negative dysfunctional attitudes could be the cause of cognitive triad which is thinking in a way of seeing the self, the world and the future negatively (Possel Black, 2013). Beck (1967) said that people who are depressed perceive the world with many hindrances and this person communicates with the environment negatively. Esbensen and associates (2007) reported that people who are depressed limit their rational and obvious explanations and automatically perceive situations negatively. Research Paper On Science And Religion Science and Religion When you think of science and religion you automatically think that they are the polar opposite of one another, and while yes they do tend to have conflicting sides to them, they actually have some things in common. Regardless of the position that everyone takes we all just want to understand or feel like we understand the universe and why we are here. We will start off with science, science in many cases is stoic and homosexuality is not an exception, but regardless of the stoicism, the fact is you see it in nature, in a book published by Simon LeVay, a neuroscientist from the University of Harvard, Gottingen, and Cambridge, he states about 10% of rams (male) refuse to mate with ewes (females) but do readily mate with other rams (LeVay, 2010, pg 70 71). The main issue is to do with the risk when nuclear energy is used. The chance of a nuclear disaster in a nuclear power plant is actually incredibly small, however, if the risk does occur, the consequence is devastating. (Gary Was, 2015). Australia also currently has no nuclear power generators, which is a surprise since it owns about 31% of the world s uranium resources. (Wikipedia, Last Modified 16 July 2015). Drugs Should Be Banned For Professional Sports Drug Use In Sports Ninety eight percent of professional athletes say that they would take performance enhancing drugs if they didn t have a chance of getting caught. Performance enhancing drugs, or PEDs, or steroids, have been around since 776 BC when the Greeks would use them to improve their performance in the Olympic Games. During World War II, the Germans, including Hitler, would take steroids to make themselves stronger and more aggressive. The Americans, British, and Japanese also began to use steroids during World War II shortly after Germany. After the war, athletes started to get their hands on these drugs and began to use them to boost their performance. More recently, athletes such as bicyclist, Lance Armstrong and baseball player, Alex Rodriguez have been caught using performance enhancers. While there are some people that believe performance enhancing drugs should be illegal in professional sports, some say they should be legal because using the drugs should be the athlete s decision, not someone else s and steroid use could possibly even make the sport more fair than it is today. Athletes in professional sports should be allowed to make their own decision whether or not to use performance enhancers. This ability to perceive, think about, understand, and interact with other people is known as social cognition (Bennett, 1993). From a young age, children try to understand complex social situations and eventually, anticipate and even control what the people around them do (Bennett, 1993). Effective communication involves understanding and making inferences about others mental states such as their knowledge, beliefs, intentions, desires, and emotions (Bennett, 1993). This understanding of mental states is an aspect of social cognition known as Theory of Mind (Bennett, 1993). Theory of mind is important for social interaction in order to understand and predict the actions and behaviors of the people around us (Martin McDonald, 2003). In past research, it has been argued that children possess a theory of mind (Bennett, 1993). However, the questioning does not stop here. The notion that children have theory of mind leads researchers to ask additional questions such as: To what extent do children actually understand the mental states of others? When do children begin to acquire this knowledge of mind and how does this knowledge develop? Wellman (1990) and Perner (1991) both claim that infants do not possess theory of mind. The three issues faced by the principal are, did the student violate the school s drug/ weapon policy, what was the student s intent, and lastly, what should the consequences be for the student s actions? In the first case an African American female was discovered taking a pill that she claimed was allergy medication. The school district defines drugs as marijuana or a controlled substance as defined by 21 U.S.C. Section 801 et seq.; or a dangerous drug otherwise defined in the State Safety code. The penalty is immediate assignment to the alternative school for one semester. In order to determine if the student violated the drug policy I would contact the student s parents to get confirmation that the student is taking the medication with the parent s knowledge and ask the parent to bring the bottle to confirm the medication. Then, I would show the medication to the person who witnessed the student taking the pill to confirm that the pills in the bottle are the same as the pill that they saw the student taking. Furthermore, I would have the student examined by the nurse and monitor the student to see if any signs of impairment could be observed. After determining if the student had violated the school s drug policy or not I would assign the in school suspension for a few days because even over the counter drugs are not permitted ... Nickel And Dimed Power Structures Essay Power Structures in Nickel and Dimed The United States prides itself on being a democracy in which equal opportunity and the pursuit of happiness are guaranteed rights for all citizens. There is no uncertainty in the loyalty that Americans have towards this promise of natural, unalienable rights. However, as Michael Foucault explains in Discipline and Punish, the power structures present in society infringe on our rights to equal opportunity and happiness by forcing us to abide by social norms and expectations. Using Barbara Ehrenreich s experience as a low wage worker in Nickel and Dimed as an example, it is clear that the power structure of observation that Foucault describes disciplines low wage workers to behave and live in a way society deems appropriate. In order to understand the power structures present in her description of life as a low wage worker in Nickel and Dimed, we need to first understand Michael Foucault s philosophy regarding discipline and surveillance. Rather than perceive power and discipline as strictly political and authoritative, Foucault believes that society is structured in a way in which constant observation disciplines us to abide by social norms and expectations. This constant surveillance is omnipresent in the sense that observation occurs in all realms of society, from education to sexuality. To further explain this idea of disciplining through constant inspection, Foucault describes Jeremy Bentham s panoptican, a type of prison in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
