Importance of Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong was the greatest of all Jazz musicians. Armstrong defined what it was to play
Jazz. His amazing technical abilities, the joy and spontaneity, and amazingly quick, inventive
musical mind still dominate Jazz to this day. Only Charlie Parker comes close to having as much
influence on the history of Jazz as Louis Armstrong did. Like almost all early Jazz musicians,
Louis was from New Orleans. He was from a very poor family and was sent to reform school
when he was twelve after firing a gun in the air on New Year s Eve. At the school he learned to
play cornet. After being released at age fourteen, he worked selling papers, unloading boats, and
selling coal from a cart. He didn t own an instrument at this time, ... Show more content on

In 1931 he returned to Chicago and assembled his own band for touring purposes. In June of that
year he returned to New Orleans for the first time since he left in 1922 to join King Oliver s
Creole Jazz Band. Armstrong was greeted as a hero, but racism marred his return when a White
radio announcer refused to mention Armstrong on the air and a free concert that Louis was
going to give to the cities African American population was cancelled at the last minute. Louis
and Lil also separated in 1931. In 1932 he returned to California, before leaving for England
where he was a great success. For the next three years Armstrong was almost always on the road.
He crisscrossed the U.S. dozens of times and returned to Europe playing in Denmark, Sweden,
Norway, Holland and England. In 1935 he returned to the U.S. and hired Joe Glaser to be his
manager. He had known Glaser when he was the manager of the Sunset Cafe in Chicago in the
1920s. Glaser was allegedly connected to the Al Capone mob, but proved to be a great manager
and friend for Louis. Glaser remained Armstrong s manager until his death in 1969.
Glaser took care of the business end of things, leaving Armstrong free to concentrate on his music.
He also hired the Luis Russell Orchestra as Louis backup band with Russell as the musical
director. This was like going home for Armstrong, because Russell s Orchestra was made up of

Statistical Analysis Of Organ Damage
Introduction
The HSE demanded a statistical report and analysis of the laboratory data, which could be used
as evidence of particular sectors of chemical industry causing potential health hazards for their
employees. For the purpose of this analysis a sample of people coming from four different
sectors of chemical industry had their blood tested for LDH 1 and LDH 5 levels (Intercellular
enzyme that determines cell damage in various organs). The degree of organ damage, in this
case liver damage, can be simply assessed by looking at the values of the ratio of those two
enzymes: the higher the ratio of LDH 1 and LDH 5 is, the worse the degree of liver damage is
(nurseslearning.com). This is how we can compare worker s health state and ... Show more content

One method of assessing the level of liver damage is to measure the ratio of LDH 5 to LDH 1.
To begin the statistical analysis of the data provided, we need to present the statistical description
of it, take a general look at the means and medians for each sector and test the normal distribution
of the data to see if we can undertake any further test.
As presented in the boxplot and in the descriptive statistics, the highest mean of the LDH1 to LDH5
ratio is associated with plasticizer manufacturing. Further examination and testing of the data is
necessary to determine whether there is a significant statistical difference between each industry
and health hazard associated with it, measured by LDH enzyme levels.
First of all it is worth to take a look at any outliers that may affect a distribution of the data.
Outliers affecting distribution:
De greasing outliers:
Female,34, 2 years of service
Dry cleaning outliers:
Male,33,15 years of service
Female, 60, 34 years of service
Plasticizer manufacturing outlier:
Male, 35, 14 years of service
The data set seems to have many outliers and what is more the Q1 and Q3 the quartiles are of a
different distance from the median, which makes the whole distribution unsymmetrical. What is
more, the whiskers are of a different length except for plasticizer manufacturing, which is generally
the most symmetrical one, and is the closest to the

We Are Marshall Themes
In the film, We are Marshall , there is a major theme that includes being able to move on and a
rebuilding of a community after a tragic event. In the following paragraphs I will be discussing
with a chain of events how football helped rebuild a community after a tragic event and how
religion and sport are intertwined. This paper is significant because within a short span it highlights
different aspects of not only rebuilding a football team but a community. This paper is important
because it shows how the concept of structural functionalism played a big part in this film in
addition to the socialization of youth and adults in the community. This paper will also talk about
major points and scenes from the film that have a connection with the... Show more content on

At the beginning of the movie after the first loss the coach told the team that winning is
everything. This is important because throughout the movie I was able to see a change in the
characters as they learned more about themselves. They were able to learn that winning wasn t
everything but learned that it s important that they keep playing the game. During the funeral
someone says, The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. This was important to me because I can
relate this to religion. There isn t a real answer of why things happen the way that they do. It s not
in our control but a person can get through the tragedy by surrounding themselves with loved ones.
That s what I personally saw while watching the movie because the team rose beyond the ashes by
having each other s backs. The win at Marshall University was important because everyone in the
town came together to watch the game. It just showed me that life keeps moving on but a
person should never forget. In addition, another example is when Jack saw the West Virginia
helmet has a MU on the back. This showed the role of religion in the community and how it
unites people when times harsh, hence allowing the coaches to watch film in the opposing
school s campus. For religion and sports I believe that they are intertwined with each other. I say
this because in the movie the players had faith and wanted to keep the team alive. By taking each
day one at a time they were able to rise from the ashes and keep the program going. Even though
the team wasn t any good the University looked towards the light and saw this as a new beginning
without forgetting about the past. Football kept the town going and allowed for people to

Sophocles Antigone s Clytemnestra
Women are far from weak from bearing children and being the backbone to a household.
Clytemnestra has suffered alone for ten years while her husband was away for war and
committing adultery in the midst of time. He left behind his loving wife and family. She left
Agamemnon for another lover. Clytemnestra did only what was right as a mother, women and a
wife. Her husband kills their child because he is summoned to by the God, Apollo, so the wind
could blow and his ship would sail which is very unjust and cruel. Clytemnestra, as a loving
mother, felt it was only right to get revenge on Agamemnon. He didn t show any loyalty to her by
bringing home a sex slave and killing their daughter showing that he really didn t care.

On the other hand, the play states that it is the father who has direct relations to child because
the father plants the seed and the mother is just there to carry it, absurd right? This thinking is
very irrational. How can you say the mother isn t directly connected to the child when the first
person a child knows is their mother? Women go through so much baring children meanwhile the
men are just there for moral, emotional and physical support and don t even know the half.
Because of this thinking Clytemnestra s son Orestes, killed her because he felt that he owed his
father more loyalty than his mother. She didn t deserve to be killed, especially by her own son, as
she justified to him her purpose for her actions and he started to reason with her. However, the
people believe it was the word of God that sent them to seek revenge and that shame was nothing, so
he insisted and killed his mother. The play also insists that Clytemnestra be punished because she
cheated on her husband. Again, she didn t deserve to be punished because her husband brought him

Essay on Risk Taking
In our lives, it is important to exercise self command. However,
we should not be so concerned with the future that we stifle the present.
The question becomes what balance should we strike between self command
and risks? What kinds of risks are acceptable or unacceptable? In this
essay, we will use two examples of risks to show the distinction between
the two and arrive at a conclusion as to the balance one should have
between risk and self command. The first example we will use is of a
person who spends his life savings on a lottery ticket and does not win
the lottery. The second is of a person who spends his life savings on a
hunch regarding a cure for AIDS, a hunch that is false. Before we make ... Show more content on

Now that we have several definitions of acceptable risks, we may
ask how these definitions, which seem piecemeal and unrelated, can all
combine to form one definition of acceptable risk. The best way to do
this is to examine the two cases that lie before us and relate the
definitions to them. In the process of doing so, we will determine which
risk is acceptable and which is not.
Risks in the example: the lottery and the AIDS cure
If the average person on the street were presented with the case
of spending one s life savings on a lottery ticket and losing or spending
the same sum on a false hunch regarding an AIDS cure, he or she would
probably come up with several answers. For the most part though, all the
answers would be consistent with one idea: the AIDS cure is simply
quot;worth quot; more and thus is a more acceptable risk. There might be several
reasons for this. One could assume, for example, that the only person who
would attempt to cure AIDS would be a doctor with sufficient experience in
the field. It would follow, then, that the odds of finding a cure for
AIDS would be much greater than the odds of winning the lottery. To win
the lottery, one has to draw 6 numbers out of 46 (a probability that is
very low). However, curing AIDS with medical experience is a less risky
endeavor. In this instance, trying to cure AIDS would be a greater moral
good because it is

Greek And Roman Influence On Western Civilization Essay
Western civilization is what we call modern society that mainly includes North America and
Western Europe. But how did this western way of life come to be? Their are many different ways
but mainly through ancient cultures. The two main ones are the Greek and Roman.
Greece with their golden age and Rome with its great Empire and Republic and also together. Their
are many ways in which western civilization is like the ancient Greek civilization. They started the
Olympic games. Greeks come up with the idea of an alphabet that it still used today. They were
the first to think of the idea of democracy. They had common people participate in their

Roman’s also invented the numeral system that is still being used. First to have people
living in apartments and to think up a welfare system. Roman’s were even the ones that
gave the planets their names. Because of all these things Rome had a big impact on western culture.
Rome and Greece both had a major impact on the architecture of western civilization.
Rome invented concrete which is the #1 thing used in building today. They also used brick and
glass. While the Greek’s used marble, which is still applied today. They both built big,
beautiful structures, many which are still standing. The Greek invention of the column, and
Rome with there favorite architecture shape, the arch, are both still very much used in the present
especially on government and capital buildings. Greece thought up the idea of making sculptors of
real people not just gods or animals. And they made it symmetrical which is how sculptors make
them to this day. Roman’s invented aqueducts and sewers.
They built great roads that were all connected and some are even still being walked on. All of
these things are a very big part of how we construct our buildings and cities. In conclusion, with the
Greek and Roman ideas and inventions they were able to have a lasting effect on the world. In one
way or another Greek and Roman civilizations have helped develop math, science, literature,

symbol looking for attention but that was not all that she was. Marilyn Monroe is a very bold name

with this name she started her life off as Norma Jeane Mortenson. Marilyn Monroes name signifies

the movie Niagara came out. This movie is a very drama filled film. In this film Marilyn Rose is
on a trip to Niagara Falls with her older husband George, they meet another couple there, Polly
and Ray. Once they get to know each other Polly thinks Ray and Rose have something going on
between them. In the end Ray and Rose were planning on killing Rose s husband George. This
was Marilyn s biggest movie that made her popular. In the same year Marilyn starred in a movie
called Gentleman Prefer Blondes. This film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best
Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. This is a big accomplishment not just for the
movie but also for Marilyn as a person. Marilyn Monroe was not just a star in movies, she also
was the first Playboy Playmate in 1953. When Marilyn Monroe is talked about she is normally
talked about negatively. People always talk about how she is a sex symbol. But that is not all
she was. she was a lot more than just a sex symbol she went through a lot as a child moving from
one house to another. But people nowadays don t look at that, they don t see that side of her. It
may be because she wanted to forget about all of the things she went through and that may be why
she dyed her hair and had plastic surgery so she looked like a pretty star that hasn t gone through

Taking a Look at Malaria
Proposed Disease: Malaria
What is malaria?
What exactly is malaria? Malaria is a disease caused by certain mosquitoes passing on parasites
when feeding on people. The most common malaria parasite and is known to be the deadliest is
plasmodium falciparum (figure 1). Once this parasite has enters the body, it takes a few weeks
before it multiply into thousands and infects red blood cells. According to Malaria No More, it is
also known that plasmodium falciparum is carried and transmitted by only female anopheles
mosquito and feed on people between the time of 9pm to 5am (Malaria No More).
According to Malariasymptons.org, once a person is infected with malaria or the parasite
plasmodium falciparum, they will experience fever like sickness. The symptoms include fever,
sweats, shaking chills, headaches, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
(malariasymptoms.org). If malaria is not treated right away, it can lead to serious health issues for
the person who is infected. It may eventually lead to kidney failure, seizures, mental confusion,
coma, bleeding due to blood clots and even death (malaria symptoms.org).
Malaria parasites were first founded in mosquitoes who were reserved in amber and was
approximately 30 million years old. It was known that parasites originated from Africa and from
those who caught the parasites from chimpanzees and gorillas. One of the earliest protections from
malaria were the Egyptians using large amounts of garlic and using bed

The Easiest Path In The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson
Two stories from different genres and different points of view, somehow deals the same theme.
Standing up for what is right may not always be the easiest path, there is was some consequence
that people have to pay for trying to make things right. Everyday there is something going on that

Should Viruses Be Considered A Living Thing Essay
There are many living things in our world. Some people simply know them as being able to
move like humans and animals . However, there are many restrictions for it to be considered a
living thing. Virus is a big part of our lives, and there is a controversy whether it is a living thing
or not. I believe that a virus should not be considered living thing because they lack many of the
properties that scientists associate with living organisms. A big reason of why viruses should not
be considered a living thing is because they are not able to reproduce sexually or asexually. Instead
the only way they can reproduce is to attack cells by injecting DNAin the cell. Then the cell makes
more viruses and splits open, releasing the viruses and letting them spread. That means that viruses
can only reproduce when there is a living organism. Without them, they will never exist. All living
things are able to reproduce sexually or asexually, which means that no matter what, they can
reproduce in most situations. Viruses on the other hand, cannot reproduce on its own, or with a
mate, so it would definitely not be a living thing. Some people argue... Show more content on

Observing Natural Selection With Different Colored Construction Bugs in a Flowered Meadow
Ashish Cavale Natural sources of variation include: mutations, gene flow, and genetic shuffling.
Mutations are random changes in DNA that result in beneficial, harmful, or no changes in an
organism. Gene flow can also be referred to as migration. It is the exchange of genes of individuals
from one population to another. Genetic shuffling occurs in meiosis when alleles switch to create
new combinations of genes. The steps of natural selection are overproduction, variation,
competition, and selection. Overproduction is important because it keeps the species from
becoming extinct and allows for more variation in offspring. Variation is what can either help the

The Fairytales We Know Today Came About In Our World
The Romanticism Era
How did the fairytales we know today came about in our world? Years ago, the Era of
Romanticism was started by men and women who let their imagination take them away from a
world where religion and politics dominated. Nature became the root of their ideas and literature
was glorified like a religion. The human spirit was examined in their eyes and they formed stories
that intrigued the people in that time period. The origin of the literary movement, the lifestyle, and
the literary art of the Romantic Era still affect us in some way or another.
The romantic literary movement is a time period from the late 1700 s to the mid 1800 s.
Romanticism took place as an effect to the frustration people felt with the ideas after the French
Revolution of 1789. The literary movement is focused on passion rather than a reason, and
imagination overruled logic. Romanticism was built on the expression of the emotions such as
love, jealousy, compassion, etc. Romantics yearn for the infinite and viewed nature as a free spirit

Viewpoints In The Things They Carried
Writing from different viewpoints allows the author, Tim O Brien, to express himself in a more
comfortable manner. Written in this viewpoint, the story is read as a tale instead of an
autobiography and the author becomes more distant with the story like he is looking into it rather
than writing it.
O Brien most likely wrote parts of the story in third person because it is traditional and benefits the
reader by allowing them to get to know multiple characters rather than just the narrator. The Things
They Carried and Speaking of Courage are two of the more personal chapters in the novel and by
writing them in third person, the reader may feel more involved in the story. They can also learn
more about the soldiers and the events of the

A Reflection On My Professional Visit At The Youth...
this essay I will be looking a critical incident reflection which I had when I went for my
professional visit at the youth offending team in London. Using Reflection will be used to reveal
how well or badly the situation was handled by the staff this will then enable me to see how the
incident and the overall reflection has influence personal learning for me
Hogston and Simpson (1999) says that reflection is a process of reviewing an experience of
practice in order to better describe, analyses and evaluate, and inform learning about practice . The
incidents occurred during the first day of my placement the incident was that some of the young
people refused to interact with me as they didn t know who I was and that trust was not built up
beforehand many of the youth s thought I was the police coming in to ask them questions about
themselves and their personal lives as many of these young people are still very vulnerable I
didn t presume them. Within any type of helping relationship building up that trusting
relationship is essential as it allows the person to feel safe to share what they have experienced
with you as an individual, Geldard and Geldard (2004) emphasize how important it is to build up
a relationship at a very early stage of meeting the client. Reid and Westergaard (2011) then go on
to say once this relationship has developed the helper will then be able to listen to the young
person s story.

Legal Advice Regarding Discharge Of Contracts
This assignment will involve giving legal advice regarding discharge of contracts, a term which
indicates a contract has terminated. A contract can end in many ways yet only two will be
covered in this scenario namely performance and breach. Discharge by performance occurs when
the parties have performed all their obligations. The latter may occur when a party fails to perform
obligations or fails to achieve the terms and conditions set out in the contract. Breach can be of two
types actual, where the party has not performed and anticipatory where one party states that
performance will not take place. A breach of contractcan also occur due to substantial performance
and part performance. The former taking place when the conditions... Show more content on

In order for the breaching party in this case LCL to be liable, it is vital to distinguish whether the
condition is a mere representation or a term. This will depict whether the party is liable. If it s a
mere representation this will generate a claim for misrepresentation rather than a breach of contract.
In Birch v Paramount Estates it was specified that the greater the significance attached, the more
likely it is a term.
The construction work portrays an expressed term of the contract as it was incorporated in the
contract. This constitutes a breach of contract as LCL have failed to accomplish the term outlined
in the contract. Due to this, Mr Jones is entitled to recover damages as he has to arrange another
company to complete the building work. The compensation Mr Jones is entitled to is namely
quantum meruit as some of the terms incorporated in the contract were accomplished. The purpose
of this is that it will put Mr Jones in a position which he would have been in, if the contract had
been performed. This is known as expectation interest . .
As the breach is repudiatory meaning that a term has not been fulfilled, then the non breaching
party in this case Mr Jones can either terminate or affirm the contract. By affirming the contract
they will accept the performance of LCL. In Sumpter v Hedges the builders failed to perform all
the obligations set out in the contract known as part

A Pundit’s Solution to Fixing Drug Violence in Mexico Essay
Thomas Friedman, a biweekly column contributor for the New York Times, is a pundit who
throughout his career has made some bold claims about controversial issues in the news. Bestement
and Gutherson argue that a pundit is merely one who gives opinions in an authoritative manner ,
and that while they may speak convincingly, their skills as pundits lie in their ability... to learn
quickly about the broad contours of a wide range of subjects, and to project confidence and
authority in talking about them (Bestement, Gutherson 2005; 2,3). Since a pundit is one who uses
existing prejudices to explain complex issues to large audiences in a concise and very generalized
manner, inaccuracies are frequent in their arguments; but these inaccuracies... Show more content

The prohibition of drugs such as cocaine, opium, and marijuana is rooted in the racism and
xenophobia of the people of the United States. It was believed that cocaine consumption by the
black community could make them disregard the barriers that society had established between
different races , while Chinese were portrayed as assiduous opium smokers and Mexicans were
labeled as avid marihuana smokers (Recio 2002; 23,24). These faulty conceptions of the minorities
in the United States resulted in a new perception...that drug consumption could not be morally
accepted and therefore its use should be seriously restricted (Recio 2002; 24). Medical
professionals in the United States were strongly opposed to an all out ban of these drugs, but
eventually the United States congress passed the Harrison Act. This act was initially designed to
limit the availability of these narcotics by requiring a prescription from a physician to obtain
them. Later, United States congress passed the Volstead Act, which prohibited alcohol. In 1922 the
Harrison Act became a totally prohibitionist piece of legislation (Recio 2002; 25, 26). Immediately
after the Harrison Act and the Volstead Acts were passed, illegal drug traffickers took the place of
physicians in providing narcotics to the people who wanted them (Recio 2002; 26). In order to
prevent this, the United States government decided that if the country producing drugs

Musk conceptualized a project called Mars Oasis, in 2001, in which he would land a miniature
experimental greenhouse on Mars that contained seeds and dehydrating gel, after hydrating the
gel the seeds would grow on Martian soil (McKnight, 2001). The project was to regain a
dwindling public interest in space exploration and increase the budget of NASA. Musk quickly
realized that the expense of getting to Mars was far greater than he expected and that there
would need to be a breakthrough in rocket technology. Musk traveled the world meeting with
different rocket builders and space engineers in hopes of finding the right rocket builder and the
right price to make his project a reality but did not find a suitable candidate. Musk had the idea of
creating a company that could build the rockets that he needed at a fraction of the cost. Musk
saw opportunity where others saw dead ends. He hired renowned rockets engineers and opened
a facility in El Segundo, California, called SpaceX. Musk decided SpaceX s first rocket would
be named Falcon 1, a nod to Star Wars Millennium Falcon (Vance, 2015). A few of SpaceX s
achievements include: the first privately funded, liquid fueled rocket (Falcon 1) to reach orbit (28

While concepts are often portrayed through dialogue and language, the author s beliefs are shown
through the portrayals of different characters. The difference between Jackson s characters
Eleanor and Theodora, Stoker s characters Lucy and Mina, and James character the governess, can
be explained by the views and treatment of women during each author s life. According to the
scholarly article Dirty Mamma, The most intricate element shared by both psychoanalysis and
gothic narratives is their preoccupation with the past and its complex impact on the genesis and
state of the present. (Michelis 5). This concept is shown through the evolution of female characters

The Negative Consequences Of The Holocaust Genocide
The Holocaust was a mass extermination, otherwise known as a genocide, against the Jewish
population. Genocide refers to an intentional killing of an entire race or ethnicity. Hitler began to
attack the Jews after World War I, when looking for someone to blame for all the trouble and
negative consequences Germanyhad to face after the war. Germany had to face the immense cost for
reparations that were stated in the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler stated in his Mein Kampf (My
Struggle) that Germany had been stabbed in the back by Jews and Communists during the war
(Merriman, 1014). With this mindset, Hitler also developed his theory that the Aryan race (those

There existed concentration camps throughout Eastern Europe, but they were most prevalent in
Poland. Since before WWII, Poland held the highest number of the Jewish population in Europe.
Therefore, it was the core place for eliminating the Jewish people. In these camps, the people

who were not capable of working were sent to extermination camps. Those who were overworked
in labor camps, faced deprivation of their humanity and of basic rights. As it states in, Reflections

the human s capability and inclination to commit genocide, as well as others unwillingness to

The Literary Works That I Will Be Featuring
The two literary works that I will be featuring are a short story and novel; both set centuries apart
yet, connect with one another in linguistic principles. Both horror writers and with this genre,
semantics can be quite fascinating. Both King and Poe, focus on the various levels of semantics
horror and psychological. The semantic perspective of Christine are that of modern day slang,
teenage symbolism. With semantic idioms and jokes, you would see the humor behind the man
with the scary mask. Christine s characters are teenagers, besides the a little parental
irresponsibility, with these hormonal teens, plus Christine. Arnie and Dennis, were full of
idioms, such as, I just had this call to nature, or I gotta take a whiz! (King) Some commonly used
idioms were most directly, ones of love and anger. Arnie due to the possession or should I say
obsession of Christine, his vocabulary goes from chess club nerb to garage bralling bully. The
bully, Repperton was as rough and ignorant as they come and he spoke like it. Keep your jock on,
man or as Dennis put it, Eat me raw through a Flavor Straw! (King) These guys were the kings of
semantic idioms. The semantic perspective is about understanding meaning in words and their
sentence structure. Shifts in meaning changes, especially with slang words. The meaning of this
popular American English culture novel was a metaphorical teenage love triangle. For Poe, his
short story, The Tell Tale Heart would be dramatically

Note book is a mixture of fact, fiction and speculation.
Your task as reader is to discover the truth.
Bradley makes use of historical incidents and real people. He also draws inspiration from other
texts. This is called intertextuality. For example he draws on Conrad s book Heart of Darkness to
explore the darkness in man s heart. His character Kurt parallels Conrad s Kurtz.
He also quotes from Ondaatje p.37 to develop his idea about maps whose portraits have nothing to

events took place at least 50 years ago. How true would be the memory of a drug addict?? We also

Both share similarities in they are emotionally damaged (Tania and Veronica) so the reader
discovers and speculates about the nature of relationships.
The second story is David s quest for both the ship and for some contentment in his personal life.
His story is revealed by 3rd person narration .David is tormented by his wife s death and is
struggling to find love and friendship with Claire. .
The description of their relationship draws on the language of navigation and discovery. She is

Both stories suggest on a personal level that the mind is uncharted and difficult to understand. We
see Claire working at self discovery. David too has to navigate through his emotions; his grief to
find some middle ground with Claire.
The third story is about the age of discovery. This involves comments about maps along with
examples some true some not of explorers. All serve to suggest science is not exact and the
process of discovery holds many dangers. The historical narrative uses a factual and formal

Software Projects And Risk Exposure Among Student Software...
development. In a company, there are many factors beyond pure coding affecting the whole project
development process. Unstable organization environment, corporate politics with negative effect on
the project, or change in organizational management during the project etc. in a company will all
have impacts on the project. However, for students developers, these issues are not within the

The realization of huge differences on potential risks between students software projects and
industrial software projects drives us to analyze risks among student population more closely and
independently from existing work. To gain more insight into the risk exposure among student
software project developers, especially under the following two different scenarios which are two
common forms of practice for student groups: developing the software project by an individual or
by a small team (3 or 4 people in a team). Studying the relationship between individual/team based
software projects and risk exposure among student groups is quite useful and interesting. As far as
we can see, it is the first time to conduct risk analysis only based on student groups and it is hoped
that we could give student developers more guidance on risk management policies, which
corresponding risks analysis is based on student groups but not professional fields, thus lessening
software project risks and improving projects performance.

the more or luxury goods they are able to purchase.
I do not agree that working long hours encourages people to consume more. I have some

money does not come easily, so I would not buy as much as I earned. I would like to save it and

Q4. Schor refers to the second structural feature that creates too much consumption as the
ecological bias . What does she mean by this? Do you agree with her that it is serious?
Schor means that people overuse of the ecological resources of the earth, which account for
global warming, species extinction, ecosystem depletion, water shortages, deforestation and soil
erosion. I absolutely agree with her that overuse of natural capital is serious because the rate of
resource use, pollution, and ecological degradation exceeds earth s absorptive and regenerative

According to dictionary.com parental leave is a leave of absence from a job for a parent to care for
a new baby. Paternal leave can either be paid or unpaid and refers to many different types of leave
including maternity, paternity, and adoption leave. Cambridge Dictionaries Online defines
maternity leave as the period when a woman can legally be absent from work in the weeks before

This is an excellent option as it would allow parents to take paid leave but there are also many
disadvantages to this approach. First, some employees, especially if they are new, often
accumulate very little sick or vacation time. If someone is earning four hours a pay period and
there are 26 pay periods in a year, they would only accumulate approximately 13 days of leave. If
they accrue sick leave at the same rate, that would give the employee a total of 26 days of paid
leave, not even a month. Adding in a typical 10 federal holidays, an employee would have
approximately 36 days for which they could take leave and be paid for which does not provide
adequate income for an employee who has chosen to take the full 12 weeks of leave offered by
FMLA. Using up all of one s leave can also create issues. If the employee catches the flu but has
used up all of their leave, they will have to take leave without pay. If the employee has more than
one child and that child becomes ill, they will not have to take leave without pay in order to stay
home and nurse the child. This leave without pay could be covered under FMLA but if all of the
benefits were used up during paternity leave, their position could be in jeopardy if they needed to
take leave without pay for unforeseen reasons. Using holiday pay could prove to be difficult
because employees may not always get

Look at these three companies Sears, JCPenney, and Ford. If you think about investing or
buying bonds. Becoming a creditor in other words of these companies and you were comparing
two of them, which two companies would be the easiest to compare? Sears and JCPenney
because they re in the same industry. They would have similar underline transactions, several
types of assets, probably same seasonality versus Ford. So it s easier to compare Sears and
JCPenney than it is Sears with Ford or JCPenney with Ford. Comparability is the question then.
Comparability means comparability across companies at the same time or one company year to
year. Sometimes call consistency. That s a subset of comparability. The purchase price of a 20
year old machinery is still in the books is this okay? Well it s not for relevance necessarily. But it
is US GAAP. US GAAP says we keep the purchase price of that equipment on the books. And
depreciate it. So the book value is the original cost less than the accumulative depreciation. The
total annual depreciation since we ve had it. This is called measurement. And the companies
expenses cost of tools that would be used for production assembly, hold on wait a minute. Wait a

assembly, you read the chapter. I hope you did.

The Second Epoch ( 1980 )
The Second Epoch (1980 2000s) In the second epoch, the emphasis shifted from regulations to
coordinating the objectives of the environment with other social and economic priorities, with more
attention to human health effects, and to carrying out the environmental policies that were on
books, more resourcefully. In a couple of instances, new goals were formed which went beyond the
former goals, for example, including dangerous materials and hazardous waste to the environmental
policy agenda, the additionally demanding provisions of the Clean Air Act of 1990, and the more
prominent acknowledgment of the international and worldwide implications of pollution. However,
the pace of enactment and the coverage of sources of pollution which were newly identified slowed
considerably in comparison with the first epoch. What changed most particularly was confidence in
the philosophy of regulation and firm control by the government.4 It turned out to be clear that
legislation alone, could neither direct nor police all organizations and groups all over the country,
nor could it bear all the obligation regarding empowering creative reactions to environmental issues.
This was not just a response to the growing involvement of the government. Underlying the second
epoch was the acknowledgment that considerable advancement had been accomplished in lessening
harmful environmental discharges and upgrading protection of resources, in policy if not generally
in deed. After over 10 years of

That is, the nuclear family s relationship or lack of relationship to the extended family or the
community may play a huge part in functioning. Ackerman (1958) viewed family work as a
special method of treatment of emotional disorders based on dynamically oriented interviews
with the whole family. This looks at the who, what, where, when, why, and how of family. The
goal is to bring to the surface all the contributors (person or thing) of the issue and map out ways
to manage it. In family therapy, the clinician is able to see the role each member plays within the
family structure. The clinician can assist the family to develop a family tree to explore different
trends or discover unknown facts. For example, in developing this tree of people the family can
include cause of death, possible miscarriages, mental health diagnosis of members, illnesses, or any
other trend of interest. This can also promote family connectedness by contacting other members or
friends of the family to gather information. Structural Family Therapy can also promote a safe

Brigade Communication Strategy
After having vision and strategy, clearly communicating the vision throughout my brigade is the
next important step. At every chance I have, I will consistently and repeatedly emphasize the
necessity of change, how my vision looks like, the way to achieve this vision, and how the change
benefits members of my brigade. I will compare this vision to another picture of the brigade if
change is not carried on by them, so the members understand, and with me strengthen and build our
organization.
The fifth step of the process is empowering broad based action. The previous four steps help me
build the determination among my brigade. The fifth step is to establishing decentralized control,
training, listening, resourcing to support the changes, and implementing solutions to problems
based on trust and commitment. I will empower, encourage leaders in my brigade to use their
strength and proficiency to achieve the team and their individual goals. On the other hand,
throughout communicating, I will identify the organizational structure barriers that hinder the
performance effectiveness and try to eliminate them. The stage six of the Kotter s model is
generating short term wins. If I see the change in my organization, I will provide visible rewarding
to the success. The reward is the proof of the hard work and effort ... Show more content on

Description And Objectives Of A Business Communication
Description and Objectives
People communicate because they are social beings. Organizations are the most prevalent social
structures in people s lives. The ability to communicate effectively in all organizational settings is,
therefore, essential. However, communicating in business is one of the most misunderstood
processes. In this course, students will try to polish their business communication skills and acquire
new ones in order to become the professionals the employers expect. A web based course, this class
will provide students with the opportunity to use communication technologies valued in the
business community as their primary medium for learning about business communication.
The course s objectives are as follows:
A. To increase students understanding of the process of communication process in diverse
organizational settings.
B. To improve students abilities to identify effective written business communication strategies.
C. To improve students abilities to identify effective oral business communication strategies.
D. To improve students practical skills in creating business documents (blogs, social networks,

Is Seagram A Long History Of Success From The Company And...
Definition of Project: Seagram has enjoyed a long history of success from its inception in 1924
with a single distillery in Canada to a world wise company. During this timeframe, global
recognition has afforded Seagram the opportunity to grow to 14,000 employees as well as
creatively diversify in a manner than many companies could not imagine. Unique purchases of oil
companies as well as what some might argue to be more logical partnerships like fruit juices such
as Dole Food Company, Inc. created continued accomplishments that would shore up the company
and create a secure future. In addition calculated investments with DuPont, MCA Inc., which
includes Universal Studios and them parks as well as electric companies build an impressive
portfolio for Seagram as well. We know that highly diversified organizations are more successful,
firms whose business units are highly related to each other, such as in a focused company, are
outperformed by those whose business units are moderately unrelated to each other (Graham, 2012,
p.14). Although this argument makes little sense, Seagram has, for years, experienced the benefits
of being highly diversified. With the strength of diversification Seagram has created over its long
life offers a firm foundation for future growth and stability. The objective of this current project is
to evaluate the assets and design a plan that will utilize the strengths of the organization while
shoring up new systems to realign Seagram for maximum growth

Comparing Kafka s Metamorphosis And A Tuft Of
ing of Discovery as a significant human experience? Discovery is the paradigm human beings use
to understand their own experiences, in that the epiphany of discovery stimulates self growth and
motivates individuals to find out more, perpetuating discovery as a fundamental human desire and
experience. Robert Frost s poems Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , Mending Wall and A
Tuft of Flowers explore the necessary meaningful and reflective process of discovery in which all
humans must experience. Similarly, The Metamorphosis written by Franz Kafka and Sean Penn s
Into the Wild utilises an individuals surrounding environment to enforce the idea of isolation
prompting the human experience and the need to discover. Overcoming thresholds... Show more

Similar to Frost s poem, Kafka s novella, Metamorphosis explores the life of the protagonist,
Gregor, as he encounters a sudden physical transformation which acts as a catalyst for his self
discovery. Kafka s incorporation of nature and social disconnection, through the metaphor of
transformation of the protagonist from human to vermin, allows the audience to explore Gregor
s emotional instability in relation to his perspective upon himself, through the representation of
his changing psychological state through the life of a bug. Kafka uses descriptive language
such as armour like back... and brown belly, slightly doomed and divided by arches into stiff
section prompting thought and imagination amongst the readers, creating a lasting impact in the
mind of the reader through the use of symbolism of the surrounding natural environment. The
use of anthropomorphism emphasises the protagonist s discovery and self evaluation of his
own worth and value both within society and his family. Kafka expresses the issues of
prioritising a job and how the constant travel made to and from work restricts and individuals
ability to have human interaction ...you can never get to know anyone or become friendly with
them as limiting the persona s potential to discover. As evident within Gregor s speech, the idea
of self discovery is illuminated through the abrupt change in appearance into his new insect
body Gregor was shocked when he heard his own voice... it could hardly be recognised. In this
dialogue Kafka reveals how the protagonist quite literally realises he has no say within his
household to call out for help, or simply to voice his opinion. As Gregor accepts his
transformative self discovery, through his change in perspective as he reflects upon his ability to
view life in a new light from the aspect of being an insect. Similarly, both

Ancient Roman Times Research Paper
Reading in the ancient roman times was different and similar from reading in the US today. The
ancient romans read from scrolls made out of sheets of papyrus or wooden tablets covered with
wax. We read from stacks of printed paper fastened together at one side. But there are also
similarities between the two. The first difference between reading in the ancient roman times and
reading in the US today is that the ancient romans would have public reading sessions. Public
reading became the central pillar of Roman literary life. People would recite epics, tragedies,
comedies, and lyrics, but mostly poetry. They d regale crowds, at dinner parties, in plazas/forums,
and during the Games (gladiator fights, fights between animals). This lust for readings did, at least,
begin with a love of words.
To the romans, reciting one s own words was self promoting and egotistical. It was only acceptable
to read the works of dead authors. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On average, authors earn about $50,000 a year. When a publisher accepts your book, you will
receive money for it prior to publication . So as long the publisher keeps your book, you could
continue to earn additional money in form of royalties in years to come . A royalty is an agreed
portion of income from a work paid to its author.
Though ancient roman reading and US reading today is very different, there are also some
similarities. Like in the US, reading was an essential part of education. Reading and writing, in
general, are undoubtedly some of the most valuable skills one can have; obviously, having these
skills makes is much easier for people to communicate and to participate in society. Literature is an
important part of our lives. It develops our minds, gives us an education, and so much more.
We didn t only read for education. We also read for entertainment. Just like the ancient romans, we

How Has Science Fiction Changed Over Time
From a man going on an adventure to find a mythical sword in order to kill a dragon, to an alien

and beloved popular genres in film history (cuebon.com). For a science fiction film all it takes is a
fragment of non realistic qualities and it can be considered science fiction. Science Fictionand actual
Science hold complementary positions in the scheme of things. Over the years we have witnessed

Science fiction is a genre of film that had the most out there storylines and slowly became a
strong building block to the most iconic movies and characters that has appeared in a film. A lot
has changed since Georges Melies story of lunar travel where a man meets a race of selenites
and escape back to earth inside a rocket in the film Le Voyage Dans La Lune to the story of a
man saving the human race from a famine by travelling through a wormhole to another planet that
can support the human race in the story Interstellar written by Christopher Nolan. Science Fiction
has become one of the top grossing film genres accumulating nearly 9 trillion dollars
($8,932,256,387) worldwide. In the future moviegoers will witness filmmakers push the
boundaries for what the general public will recognize as Science Fiction . One of the interesting
discoveries we made was that the mid future (50 150 years in the future) is one of the most
popular time periods when being used in the genre. With advances in technology it is very hard not
to see the progress that these films have become and eventually will

The overall process of our proposed technique to predict the epitope structure is illustrated in
(Figure 2). Figure 2: The overall process of the Genetic Algorithm for Predicting the Epitope
Structure (GAPES) 3.Results and Discussion The proposed prediction technique is implemented
and tested using Java platform with JDK1.8.0_20 on Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz processor and 3
GB RAM, running on Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. 3.1GA Performance and
Parameter Settings The proposed genetic algorithm in this study is applied to search for the
lowest free energy conformation of the epitopes sequence and nonamer subsequence. The GA is
an elitist based strategy with the roulette wheel selection and the elitist steady state replacement.
Two types of real coded crossovers and two levels of mutation were performed. The elitism based
GA is used to emphasize the best chromosomes in the genetic operations. Elitism increases the
performance of GA rapidly because it keeps the best found solution through the succeeding
generations and prevents losing it. There are many genetic parameters are needed in the standard
genetic algorithm, such as the population size, the crossover probability, and the mutation rate.
The parameters employed in our proposed GA for predicting epitopes tertiary structure are:
population size N=200, the selected population M=30 (elitist chromosomes) to apply the GA
operators, and the crossover probability is equal to 1. We used two levels of

Illegal Immigrants Crossing The Mexican American Border
America has long been the land of hopes and dreams. People from all over the world have come
to America for a better life. The United States has been referred to as the land of Freedom, a sign
of hope or even a place where the American Dream lives. The American Dream was thought to be
something in which every American seemed to already live and what every person dreamed of.
Many Immigrants coming to this land of the free have lost their lives or have suffered
immensely trying to make it here. Even though the number of immigrants who try to cross the
border has decreased, the number of deaths continues to increase. With all of the dangers, illegal
immigrants cross the Mexican American border because of the extreme temperatures of the
desert, the deceitful currents of the Rio Bravo, and the dangerous practices of coyotes . In my
paper I would like to focus on the struggles of immigrants crossing over and their journey. What
causes a person to leave their hometown, families, friends and everything they know to go on a
deadly trip in hope of a better life. Well the poor living conditions, drug wars, kidnappings, and
the hope of a better life leads people to take such a dangerous trip. In one of my Archives, Perez
provides an example of a small town in Mexico and what causes may people to begin a dangerous
trip to the Unites States. Perez describes, In Mexico, things weren t going well. The people were
killing themselves working the ranchos on the outskirts. The fisherman

Native Americans thought that tobacco connected you to a supernatural world.
If we skip back a little, in the first chapter of Vermeer s Hat: The seventeenth Century and the
Dawn of the Global World, Brook discusses Vermeer s first painting, View of Delft
. This painting is
one of the only outdoor scenes Vermeer had painted that is still in existence. The first window
Brook opens for his readers in this painting is a view of the city of Delft. This painting shows the
river harbor in Delft. Brook first uses the herring buses in this painting to open a window into the
seventeenth century. Herring buses Timothy Brook states herring buses in Vermeer s Hat, are, three
masted vessels built to fish for herring in the North Sea (12). The herring buses give Timothy Brook
a window to talk about the climate change and sickness in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
In these two centuries, the temperatures were falling all over the world, creating increased sickness
and shorter crop seasons. In Vermeer s Hat, Brook says that the two herring boats in the painting are
evidence of climate change. Brook also uses Vermeer to talk about the exchanges in the seventeenth
century. He states that one of the benefits of the climate changing was the southward

  • 2. Importance of Louis Armstrong Louis Armstrong Louis Armstrong was the greatest of all Jazz musicians. Armstrong defined what it was to play Jazz. His amazing technical abilities, the joy and spontaneity, and amazingly quick, inventive musical mind still dominate Jazz to this day. Only Charlie Parker comes close to having as much influence on the history of Jazz as Louis Armstrong did. Like almost all early Jazz musicians, Louis was from New Orleans. He was from a very poor family and was sent to reform school when he was twelve after firing a gun in the air on New Year s Eve. At the school he learned to play cornet. After being released at age fourteen, he worked selling papers, unloading boats, and selling coal from a cart. He didn t own an instrument at this time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1931 he returned to Chicago and assembled his own band for touring purposes. In June of that year he returned to New Orleans for the first time since he left in 1922 to join King Oliver s Creole Jazz Band. Armstrong was greeted as a hero, but racism marred his return when a White radio announcer refused to mention Armstrong on the air and a free concert that Louis was going to give to the cities African American population was cancelled at the last minute. Louis and Lil also separated in 1931. In 1932 he returned to California, before leaving for England where he was a great success. For the next three years Armstrong was almost always on the road. • 3. Statistical Analysis Of Organ Damage Introduction The HSE demanded a statistical report and analysis of the laboratory data, which could be used as evidence of particular sectors of chemical industry causing potential health hazards for their employees. For the purpose of this analysis a sample of people coming from four different sectors of chemical industry had their blood tested for LDH 1 and LDH 5 levels (Intercellular enzyme that determines cell damage in various organs). The degree of organ damage, in this case liver damage, can be simply assessed by looking at the values of the ratio of those two enzymes: the higher the ratio of LDH 1 and LDH 5 is, the worse the degree of liver damage is (nurseslearning.com). This is how we can compare worker s health state and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One method of assessing the level of liver damage is to measure the ratio of LDH 5 to LDH 1. To begin the statistical analysis of the data provided, we need to present the statistical description of it, take a general look at the means and medians for each sector and test the normal distribution of the data to see if we can undertake any further test. As presented in the boxplot and in the descriptive statistics, the highest mean of the LDH1 to LDH5 ratio is associated with plasticizer manufacturing. Further examination and testing of the data is necessary to determine whether there is a significant statistical difference between each industry and health hazard associated with it, measured by LDH enzyme levels. First of all it is worth to take a look at any outliers that may affect a distribution of the data. Outliers affecting distribution: De greasing outliers: Female,34, 2 years of service Dry cleaning outliers: Male,33,15 years of service Female, 60, 34 years of service Plasticizer manufacturing outlier: Male, 35, 14 years of service The data set seems to have many outliers and what is more the Q1 and Q3 the quartiles are of a different distance from the median, which makes the whole distribution unsymmetrical. What is more, the whiskers are of a different length except for plasticizer manufacturing, which is generally the most symmetrical one, and is the closest to the

In the following paragraphs I will be discussing with a chain of events how football helped rebuild a community after a tragic event and how religion and sport are intertwined. This paper is significant because within a short span it highlights different aspects of not only rebuilding a football team but a community. This is important because throughout the movie I was able to see a change in the characters as they learned more about themselves. They were able to learn that winning wasn t everything but learned that it s important that they keep playing the game. During the funeral someone says, The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. This was important to me because I can relate this to religion. There isn t a real answer of why things happen the way that they do. It s not in our control but a person can get through the tragedy by surrounding themselves with loved ones. That s what I personally saw while watching the movie because the team rose beyond the ashes by having each other s backs. The win at Marshall University was important because everyone in the town came together to watch the game. It just showed me that life keeps moving on but a person should never forget. In addition, another example is when Jack saw the West Virginia helmet has a MU on the back. This showed the role of religion in the community and how it unites people when times harsh, hence allowing the coaches to watch film in the opposing school s campus. For religion and sports I believe that they are intertwined with each other. I say this because in the movie the players had faith and wanted to keep the team alive. By taking each day one at a time they were able to rise from the ashes and keep the program going. Even though the team wasn t any good the University looked towards the light and saw this as a new beginning without forgetting about the past. The question becomes what balance should we strike between self command and risks? What kinds of risks are acceptable or unacceptable? The best way to do this is to examine the two cases that lie before us and relate the definitions to them. In the process of doing so, we will determine which risk is acceptable and which is not. Risks in the example: the lottery and the AIDS cure If the average person on the street were presented with the case of spending one s life savings on a lottery ticket and losing or spending the same sum on a false hunch regarding an AIDS cure, he or she would probably come up with several answers. It would follow, then, that the odds of finding a cure for AIDS would be much greater than the odds of winning the lottery. However, there are many restrictions for it to be considered a living thing. Virus is a big part of our lives, and there is a controversy whether it is a living thing or not. I believe that a virus should not be considered living thing because they lack many of the properties that scientists associate with living organisms. A big reason of why viruses should not be considered a living thing is because they are not able to reproduce sexually or asexually. Instead the only way they can reproduce is to attack cells by injecting DNAin the cell. Then the cell makes more viruses and splits open, releasing the viruses and letting them spread. That means that viruses can only reproduce when there is a living organism. Without them, they will never exist. All living things are able to reproduce sexually or asexually, which means that no matter what, they can reproduce in most situations. This constitutes a breach of contract as LCL have failed to accomplish the term outlined in the contract. Due to this, Mr Jones is entitled to recover damages as he has to arrange another company to complete the building work. The compensation Mr Jones is entitled to is namely quantum meruit as some of the terms incorporated in the contract were accomplished. The purpose of this is that it will put Mr Jones in a position which he would have been in, if the contract had been performed. This is known as expectation interest . . As the breach is repudiatory meaning that a term has not been fulfilled, then the non breaching party in this case Mr Jones can either terminate or affirm the contract. It was believed that cocaine consumption by the black community could make them disregard the barriers that society had established between different races , while Chinese were portrayed as assiduous opium smokers and Mexicans were labeled as avid marihuana smokers (Recio 2002; 23,24). Medical professionals in the United States were strongly opposed to an all out ban of these drugs, but eventually the United States congress passed the Harrison Act. This act was initially designed to limit the availability of these narcotics by requiring a prescription from a physician to obtain them. Later, United States congress passed the Volstead Act, which prohibited alcohol. In 1922 the Harrison Act became a totally prohibitionist piece of legislation (Recio 2002; 25, 26). If they accrue sick leave at the same rate, that would give the employee a total of 26 days of paid leave, not even a month. In a couple of instances, new goals were formed which went beyond the former goals, for example, including dangerous materials and hazardous waste to the environmental policy agenda, the additionally demanding provisions of the Clean Air Act of 1990, and the more prominent acknowledgment of the international and worldwide implications of pollution. However, the pace of enactment and the coverage of sources of pollution which were newly identified slowed considerably in comparison with the first epoch. What changed most particularly was confidence in the philosophy of regulation and firm control by the government.4 It turned out to be clear that legislation alone, could neither direct nor police all organizations and groups all over the country, nor could it bear all the obligation regarding empowering creative reactions to environmental issues. Kafka uses descriptive language such as armour like back... and brown belly, slightly doomed and divided by arches into stiff section prompting thought and imagination amongst the readers, creating a lasting impact in the mind of the reader through the use of symbolism of the surrounding natural environment. The use of anthropomorphism emphasises the protagonist s discovery and self evaluation of his own worth and value both within society and his family. Kafka expresses the issues of prioritising a job and how the constant travel made to and from work restricts and individuals ability to have human interaction ...you can never get to know anyone or become friendly with them as limiting the persona s potential to discover. As evident within Gregor s speech, the idea of self discovery is illuminated through the abrupt change in appearance into his new insect body Gregor was shocked when he heard his own voice... it could hardly be recognised. In this dialogue Kafka reveals how the protagonist quite literally realises he has no say within his household to call out for help, or simply to voice his opinion. As Gregor accepts his transformative self discovery, through his change in perspective as he reflects upon his ability to view life in a new light from the aspect of being an insect. Similarly, both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ancient romans read from scrolls made out of sheets of papyrus or wooden tablets covered with wax. We read from stacks of printed paper fastened together at one side. But there are also similarities between the two. The first difference between reading in the ancient roman times and reading in the US today is that the ancient romans would have public reading sessions. Public reading became the central pillar of Roman literary life. People would recite epics, tragedies, comedies, and lyrics, but mostly poetry. They d regale crowds, at dinner parties, in plazas/forums, and during the Games (gladiator fights, fights between animals). This lust for readings did, at least, begin with a love of words. To the romans, reciting one s own words was self promoting and egotistical. It was only acceptable to read the works of dead authors. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On average, authors earn about $50,000 a year. When a publisher accepts your book, you will receive money for it prior to publication . So as long the publisher keeps your book, you could continue to earn additional money in form of royalties in years to come . A royalty is an agreed portion of income from a work paid to its author. Though ancient roman reading and US reading today is very different, there are also some similarities. Like in the US, reading was an essential part of education. Reading and writing, in general, are undoubtedly some of the most valuable skills one can have; obviously, having these skills makes is much easier for people to communicate and to participate in society. Literature is an important part of our lives. It develops our minds, gives us an education, and so much more. We didn t only read for education. We also read for entertainment. How Has Science Fiction Changed Over Time From a man going on an adventure to find a mythical sword in order to kill a dragon, to an alien race coming to earth to destroy and enslave the human race, science fiction is one of films oldest and beloved popular genres in film history (cuebon.com). For a science fiction film all it takes is a fragment of non realistic qualities and it can be considered science fiction. Science Fictionand actual Science hold complementary positions in the scheme of things. Over the years we have witnessed science fiction undergo the basic standards of what a science fiction movie should be. From simple animation to large scale blockbuster films that will generate over 10 million at the box office. The genreof science fiction has changed drastically over... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Science fiction is a genre of film that had the most out there storylines and slowly became a strong building block to the most iconic movies and characters that has appeared in a film. A lot has changed since Georges Melies story of lunar travel where a man meets a race of selenites and escape back to earth inside a rocket in the film Le Voyage Dans La Lune to the story of a man saving the human race from a famine by travelling through a wormhole to another planet that can support the human race in the story Interstellar written by Christopher Nolan. Science Fiction has become one of the top grossing film genres accumulating nearly 9 trillion dollars ($8,932,256,387) worldwide. In the future moviegoers will witness filmmakers push the boundaries for what the general public will recognize as Science Fiction . One of the interesting discoveries we made was that the mid future (50 150 years in the future) is one of the most popular time periods when being used in the genre. With advances in technology it is very hard not to see the progress that these films have become and eventually will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Radial Basis Function (RBF) Gaussian Kernel is utilized as an SVM kernel function. The similarity reduced IEDB dataset under test consists of twelve alleles of binders and non binders peptides. The binders peptides represent our positive instances while the non binder peptides represent the negative instances. We have selected balanced x instances from each allele (i.e., x binders and x non binders), where x is the minimum count number of all binders and non binders peptides in each allele as shown in Table 1. The HLA DRB1*0101 allele from Wang benchmark dataset also treated and prepared like IEDB dataset. We run our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall process of our proposed technique to predict the epitope structure is illustrated in (Figure 2). Figure 2: The overall process of the Genetic Algorithm for Predicting the Epitope Structure (GAPES) 3.Results and Discussion The proposed prediction technique is implemented and tested using Java platform with JDK1.8.0_20 on Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz processor and 3 GB RAM, running on Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. 3.1GA Performance and Parameter Settings The proposed genetic algorithm in this study is applied to search for the lowest free energy conformation of the epitopes sequence and nonamer subsequence. The GA is an elitist based strategy with the roulette wheel selection and the elitist steady state replacement. Two types of real coded crossovers and two levels of mutation were performed. The elitism based GA is used to emphasize the best chromosomes in the genetic operations. Elitism increases the performance of GA rapidly because it keeps the best found solution through the succeeding generations and prevents losing it. There are many genetic parameters are needed in the standard genetic algorithm, such as the population size, the crossover probability, and the mutation rate. The parameters employed in our proposed GA for predicting epitopes tertiary structure are: population size N=200, the selected population M=30 (elitist chromosomes) to apply the GA operators, and the crossover probability is equal to 1. The United States has been referred to as the land of Freedom, a sign of hope or even a place where the American Dream lives. The American Dream was thought to be something in which every American seemed to already live and what every person dreamed of. Many Immigrants coming to this land of the free have lost their lives or have suffered immensely trying to make it here. Even though the number of immigrants who try to cross the border has decreased, the number of deaths continues to increase. With all of the dangers, illegal immigrants cross the Mexican American border because of the extreme temperatures of the desert, the deceitful currents of the Rio Bravo, and the dangerous practices of coyotes . In my paper I would like to focus on the struggles of immigrants crossing over and their journey. What causes a person to leave their hometown, families, friends and everything they know to go on a deadly trip in hope of a better life. Well the poor living conditions, drug wars, kidnappings, and the hope of a better life leads people to take such a dangerous trip. In one of my Archives, Perez provides an example of a small town in Mexico and what causes may people to begin a dangerous trip to the Unites States. Perez describes, In Mexico, things weren t going well. The people were killing themselves working the ranchos on the outskirts. The fisherman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brook argues that this globalization had begun in the seventeenth century. He takes a look at Vermeer s paintings, and uses them as windows into seventeenth century history to discuss further topics of interest. Through every painting, it leads to a door that ... Chinese people thought that tobacco had medicinal purposes, while Native Americans thought that tobacco connected you to a supernatural world. If we skip back a little, in the first chapter of Vermeer s Hat: The seventeenth Century and the Dawn of the Global World, Brook discusses Vermeer s first painting, View of Delft . This painting is one of the only outdoor scenes Vermeer had painted that is still in existence. The first window Brook opens for his readers in this painting is a view of the city of Delft. This painting shows the river harbor in Delft. Brook first uses the herring buses in this painting to open a window into the seventeenth century. Herring buses Timothy Brook states herring buses in Vermeer s Hat, are, three masted vessels built to fish for herring in the North Sea (12). The herring buses give Timothy Brook a window to talk about the climate change and sickness in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In these two centuries, the temperatures were falling all over the world, creating increased sickness and shorter crop seasons. In Vermeer s Hat, Brook says that the two herring boats in the painting are evidence of climate change. Brook also uses Vermeer to talk about the exchanges in the seventeenth century. He states that one of the benefits of the climate changing was the southward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
