One Child Policy
Is it okay to kill a child never born? Is it okay to deprive a mother of giving breath to another life?
It is okay to burden an only child s shoulders with responsibilities?A one child policy would
inflict these issues upon many families. Although there are credible arguments to support each
side of the debate, it is clearly inappropriate for the government to enact one child legislation in
order to control the population. One reason the policy would be inappropriate is because it
creates a disparity in the childbirth ratio. For example, China implanted the policy in 1979, and by
the 1990s, the ratio of males to female had risen. The ratio of boys born compared to girls born
reached a peak of 117: 100 after 1990, which is thought to be above... Show more content on

The high number of abortions...forced to pay fines...forced to undergo sterilizations...doctors
perform 1,500 abortions even if the mother is already seven months pregnant ( 9 Advantages).
This evidence shows the number of abortions some doctors have dealt with, what the women
have to do just to avoid a fine. The women who go through this process just do not suffer
physically, they suffer mentally and psychologically. Most parents want males during this policy
because the males are the ones who will carry the namesake, have more opportunities to make
money, and will provide labor. When the gender of the baby is revealed, and turns out to be
female, later term abortions will be performed (Lombardo). This shows how parents wanted to get
abortions now matter how long the pregnancy was. Parents did this because they can only have one
child, and they want to make and get the most out of their

Similarities Between Western Society And Russian Society
Tolstoy s Views on Western Society vs Russian Society In the novel War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
the main families are identified as members of the Aristocratic, or Western, society in Russia. The
novel s historical timeline includes the cultural shift from the original Russian culture seen in
Moscow, to the more progressive Aristocratic society, seen in Saint Petersburg. In the novel Tolstoy
uses subtle and some not so subtle indications that point toward his true opinion on the two
different societies in which the characters interact in. The depiction of societal norms in Petersburg
in the novel illustrates Tolstoy s views on Aristocratic culture as inferior to Russian culture; Tolstoy
s views throughout the novel are that the Aristocratic culture brought western societal norms to
Russia, and extinguished the original Russian culture and passion that Tolstoy idolized throughout
the novel. The Western society and the culture that has developed there is seen in a negative
manner throughout the novel. The characters who reside in this society and who are active
participants in the culture are described as being involved in manipulative relationships, and are
only after status, power and wealth in both these relationships and also in their careers. However,
the Russian society and culture is seen in a much more positive way. The characters who live in
this society and experience the culture are seen as pure and passionate. Each of these depictions of

Upper-Extremity Trauma Case Study
Studies and surveys have shown that upper extremity injuries are a common result of pitching
through youth, high school, and collegiate baseball leagues. There have been surveys taken to
show the relation of elbow and shoulder injuries and pitching. Statistics taken describe (1) the
proportion of pitchers with a history of pitching related upper extremity injury (2) proportion of
pitchers with w history of pitching related elbow and shoulder injury that was treated through
surgery (3)types of upper extremity injuries sustained by pitchers and (4) types of upper
extremity injuries sustained by a certain age category around the same time of injury. Due to the
results of this survey, I find pitching a very relevant subject when dealing with elbow and
shoulder injuries. 1464 packets were sent out to 96 institutions and, out of the 629 consent forms
and questionnaires mailed back, results have shown that 73 percent of injuries that resulted in
surgery are sustained by pitchers. 71.7 percent of these pitchers played for universities in the
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I, 12.4% were in DII, 14% in DIII, and 1.9%
were in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The average age of these pitchers was
20.1 21.6 years old.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means half of shoulder/elbow injuries reported by baseball players were from high school
athletes, and the other half from college and professional league athletes. The elbow injuries
sustained after age 18 were more likely to be treated surgically. The study data shows that injuries
are more common and more severe as pitchers move from high school to college, which suggests
that pitchers practice the correct pitching technique early in their career to prevent pitching related

Women in Movies Essay
Women in Movies Since the 1940 s, movies have predominately portrayed women as sex symbols.
Beginning in the 1940 s and continuing though the 1980 s, women did not have major roles in
movies. When they did have a leading role the women was either pretreated as unintelligent and
beautiful, or as conniving and beautiful: But she was always beautiful. Before the 1990 s, men
alone, wrote and directedall the movies, and the movies were written for men. In comparison,
movies of the 90 s are not only written and directed by women, but leading roles are also held by
older and unattractive women. In this paper I will show the variations and growth of women s
roles in movies from the 1940 s though the 1990 s.

portrays women to be homemakers. They are suppose to stay at home, watch over the family,
and be there to great their husbands at the door when they get home from work. The movie tells
the story of Kay Banks, a girl who has graduated from highschool and is now waiting to find a
husband. She is a daddy s girl who gets everything she wants. Even though her father is against a
big church wedding he gives in and Kay and her new husband have a beautiful wedding and
everyone lives happily ever after. In the 1950 s women were expected to be beautiful and be
good wives. In the 1960 s women were portrayed in movies to be torn between having good
morals and wanting to have sex. In the Splendor in the Grass, Dinny is a highschools girl in love
with a boy named Bud. Dinny is a nice young girl but she feels very strongly about Bud and she
is confused about her feelings. she wants to have sex with him but she knows it is mot the right

Gender Roles In Celie By Alice Walker
In the text, the author differentiates the roles between females and males in society in both
settings. Throughout the text there are many examples of women having the duty of being a
caregiver and the men are the ones who do the hard physical work or even stand back and let the
women do all the work and vice versa between settings. For example, in Celie s setting, there is a
change between the roles of men and women. At first, Celie is the one who is doing all the work
around the house. Celie is referred to as the one who holds the house down and do the things the
men would not do. Celie here. Good housekeeper, good with children, good cook (Walker 20).
Within the entire beginning of the story, Albert stands back and allows Celie to do all the house
work and even the hard physical work outside the house.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As she makes this important decision, Albert finds himself alone and in need. He realizes there
was food on the table, clean clothes, and an income because of the hard work Celie was doing,
now without Celie, he s the only one who can make those things happen again. When Celie is
told Albert has been working hard and doing chores around the house, she s in complete
disbelief. Celie does not believe that Albert has changed from a man who would not do anything
to help into a man who is doing everything on his own because he has no one left to help. Albert
even decides to sew with Celie in the end which supports his change. Now us sit sewing and
talking and smoking our pipes (Walker 272). In contrast, in Netties setting, the women are the ones
who take care of the children and the home while only the men do the hard physical work. It

Essay On The Restoration Period
The period from 1660 to 1700 is known as the Restoration period. It was a period when King
Charles II of England marked the beginning of a new era both in social life and the literature of
England upon his return from exile. He revived a theatrical genre known as Comedies of
Manners which was lewd and hilarious. The Way of the world depicts real picture of the
restoration period connected to amoral and exploitative manners of the people. Therefore, this
essay will be analyzed based on how the play acts as a social mirror of the restoration period in
England during Congreve s time. First of all, the play is a dramatic representation of varieties of
love that prevailed in England during the restoration period. Marriagewas just a mere game of love.
There were betrayals on marriage without love yet the fake relation continued for various reasons.

Amazon s Mechanical Turk ( M Turk ) Essay
Introduction The present study was an initial test for an online version of the road salting task.
There was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to
population that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education.
Would other populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all
previous data had been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task
progress and preventing any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory
environment, many aspects of the online testing environment are not under the experimenter s
control. Participants could be distracted by simultaneously completing other online tasks or
attending to other aspects of their environment. It is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend
to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis,
Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The online testing environment used
for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M Turk is a platform for
thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents complete tasks for small
monetary rewards. Evidence suggests that M Turk samples are reliable and reasonably
representative of the general public and data quality does not seem affected by payment amount

Comparative Analysis Of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum...
Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in Cognitive
Radio Networks
Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its applications
increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity. One of the best solutions
to avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is
a promising technology, which is used to sense the unused spectrum in an appropriate manner.
Various methods have been proposed in the past, such as energy detection, matched filterand so on
[1 6 7]. Different techniques serve different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages.
In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the probability
detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection, matched filter detectors
based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated using MATLAB. The performance of
energy detection, matched filter detector is compared by plotting probability detection versus
signal to noise ratio graph.

Matched Filter, Probability Detection and Threshold.
I. Introduction: The recent trend in cognitive radio related research has altered s great of deal of
interest in spectrum sensing and detection of radio users in the environment [5]. In general, the

SWOT Analysis Of The PESTLE Model
The PESTLE model applies the political economic social technological legal and environmental
climate to assess the effect on the goals and objectives of the practice.
(See Figure 1)
Kurt Lewins force field theory adds demographics and cultural effects to this mix. A SWOT
analysis can be applied in conjunction with these to highlight the strengths weaknesses and the
opportunities and threats that will impact the practice (See Appendix III)

Workforce Management Tools (WFM) are utilised to allocate tasks to individual skills, with time
lines and other parameters. This aims to maximise efficiency and quality of service offered. OFP
ensure that the organisational (National Health Service England NHSE), the team (GP Practice) and
the individual (staff) goals are clear, well managed and aligned. This should maximise efficiency
and quality of service (Valls et al 2009).
The cost of labour (workforce) is a significant cost. The impact if workforce relevant skills are
lacking is an increase in cost and time taken to perform tasks and a decrease in productivity
(Capece and Costa 2009) (Capece and Bazzica 2013).
Reduce cost of labour without compromising quality (Van der Bergh et al 2013) pursue both

child can be placed on one of the diets it can prevent digestive issues and reduce Autistic symptoms.
Gluten free, Casein free, Soy free Diet
The gluten free, casein free, soy free diet can improve Autistic children s lives. The GFCFSF is
known as the Autism Diet. It has helped many people with autism spectrum disorders improve their
health and functioning. ASD children usually limit their diet to a few things. Once children are the
diet, they expand their food to include more nutritional choices (Bortfeld, 2017, May 14). These
healthier choices improve the overall nourishment of the child. The nutritional selection also helps
with health issues the child may be suffering from. Research by Dr. Harumi Jyonouchi shows that
91% of people with ASD... who tried a GFCFSF diet reported improvements in GI symptoms and
some autistic behaviors (Bortfeld, 2017, May 14). The diet can have a positive affect

The Doctrine Of Pre Established Harmony
Causation was a very important topic of philosophical reflection during the 17th century. This
reflection centered and focused around certain particular causation problems. Among those
problems was the problem between the mind and the body. The doctrine of Pre established
Harmony, is Leibniz s response to the problem of causation between mind and body. To begin with,
Leibniz in his proposition rejected Descartes 3rd proposition about mind and body casually
interacting as for him the mind does not act upon the body and the body does not act upon the
mind. Leibniz feels that that no finite substance, created substance acts upon another. Therefore, he
denies any causation among finite or created substances. He even claimed the following, There is
also no way of explaining how a monad can be altered or changed internally by some other creature
(...) The monads have no windows through which something can enter or leave. Accidents cannot
be detached, nor can they go about outside of substances, as the sensible species of the Scholastics
once did. Thus, neither substance nor accident can enter a monad from without. (Monadology
В§7). Monad is Leibniz s technical term for individual substances. In the following passage just
quoted, Leibniz is rejecting intersubstancial causation between created or finite substances. For
Leibniz, the world is created of infinitely many finite substances, which are completely and casually
isolated from one another. These substances cannot act upon

The Theory Of Science And Technology
Alan Gonzalez

College Algebra
Science and technology is important to society and is often used in our everyday lives. We often
have no idea how science and technology really affect us. We work and live in a world driven by
technology and science. Science is crucial because it has helped form the world that we live in
today. Charles Robert Darwin was an English geologist and naturalist, best known for his significant
addition to the science of evolution. He had a theory that all species have inherited traits over time
from common ancestors, and in a partnership with Alfred Russel Wallace introduced his scientific
theory that this pattern of evolution resulted from an action that he called natural selection, in which

Captain Robert FitzRoy. The voyage would prove the opportunity of a lifetime for the Charles
Robert Darwin.
The HMS Beagle set out on its voyage far and wide with Darwin on board on December 27, 1813.
Over the course of the excursion, Darwin recovered an assortment of characteristic examples,
including fossils, birds, and plants. Through extreme research, he had an exceptional opportunity to
watch the standards of topography, zoology, and natural science nearly. South America, The
Galapagos Archipelago, and The Pacific Island were of sure enthusiasm to Darwin. Charles Darwin
started to review his discoveries in the Diary of Examines, distributed as a component of Chief
FitzRoy s bigger report and later altered into the Zoology of the Voyage of the Beagle, once
Darwin came back to Britain in 1836. The voyage enormously affected Darwin s perspective of
common history. He started to grow a significant hypothesis about the start of living creatures that
was inverse to the famous perspective of different naturalists at once.
Darwin s involvement with examples across the world brought up vital issues. Different
researchers trusted that all species either appeared toward the beginning of the world, or were made
after some time in natural history. In either case, the species were accepted to stay much the same
all through time.

Case Study Of Demand For Fresh Potatoes
Demand for Fresh Potatoes:
Given the lack of reliable production and consumption data these are illustrative estimates only.
Future demand is derived using projected population statistics of 2002. The population in 2002
was 25 million and the population growth between 1991 2002 was 3.2 %, and by 2015 the
projected population growth as per an estimate would rise to 35 million. We also assume that potato
demand equals supply as there is no external potato trade between Uganda and other
Countries in the region. This would mean that any impact achieved through the adoption of new

who have never seen the video it has a very sad and morose tone to it. The commercial begins with
showing pictures and videos of sufferinganimals with the song Angel playing in the background.

Arms of an Angel is the major aspect of the commercial that really sets the tone. The tone of the
song is depressing and gloomy but grabs the attention of the audience at the same time. The main
point of the commercial is to convince the audience to be an angel , by saving the abused animals
dying in the shelters. The song used is a perfect tool to convince the audience to be an angel and
help the animals. Even though the music is a large part of setting the tone, the clips and pictures
are equally as moving. Showing pictures of abused and suffering animals is a great way to get
the audience s attention and cause them to become sympathetic to the animals. Very few people
in the world are unfazed when they see a video or picture of a helpless and suffering dog or cat. I
looked at a lot of the related videos on YouTube and many of them are reaction videos. The

sector in Canada is facing a major crisis, which is the fear of running out of world s natural
resources to produce electricity. Even though the Canadian government is promoting renewable
resources, it will take a long time to establish a network that is completely dependent on renewable
resources. In the meantime, the population of Canada is growing drastically and cities such as
Toronto is struggling to meet the rising demand for electricity due to urbanization.

For example every single child should be enrolled in school for at least 16 years of their life cause
for those 16 years ,they will have the basic knowledge s on how to survive life and to not be
forced into anything without them knowing they can actually fight for their own opinion and
rights and this should be a universal law. Another solution is that organizations could volunteer
qualified individuals to teach girls around the world and they could alternate so the volunteer
wouldn t be only helping one specific place they would be helping the world. Donation by money
is also very important because by that way the money that was received could be used to build
schools and give a better life for these kids.
Inequality in education is a very big problem because if you had to put yourself in that little girl
s shoe whose being forced into an arranged marriage and having babies at the age of 10 and
being forced to be at home all the time without the slightest knowledge that you could fight for
yourself . Education plays a very big role in everyone s life and everyone should be given this

Brain imaging studies of PTSD sufferers shows two things, it reduces activity in the vmPFC and

When one feels loved, or when one loves someone they feel happiness. This is essential for leading
good life and creating a positive world. Without love there would be loneliness, sadness and
despair which only negatively impacts our society as a whole. Our families are our first
examples of love. A parent s love for their children is unconditional providing a strong foundation
and a sense of belonging. In the book Antigone Creon forgets about being loving and kind and
instead he was rash and cruel. This is because instead of doing what a loving father would have
done and let his son s fiancee free, he decided to try seem strong and stick to his original decision
even though it was wrong. This is why this story ends in Tragedy. All this could have been been
solved with love. Loving your family isn t the only type of love. People can also fall in love
with someone else and create a relationship. Relationship love makes you feel important and
wanted and gives strength. In the book Anthem, Equality meets the Golden One and they fall in

Disguise And Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice And...
The concept of disguise has been known and used since the beginnings of drama, but this
concept was most famously known for being used in plays written by the biggest playwrights of
the Elizabethan era especially for being used in William Shakespeare s plays. What do we mean
by disguise? In broad terms, it would mean pretending to be something that one is not. The concept
of disguise can mean changing behavior, or hiding intentions, the most frequent form of disguise is
the change of ones personal appearance, usually through the changing of clothes, to mask ones true
self. Shakespeare used disguises in various ways in his plays; As You Like It, Measure for Measure
,
The Merchant of Venice, and Twelfth Night were all plays in which Shakespeare used the concept
of disguise as a device to further the plot, it was sometimes even used for comic relief. Disguises
can be used both maliciously and/ or morally, depending on its use and its influence on the
characters. In both Merchant of Venice and Measure for Measure, both Portia and Duke Vincentio
donned a disguise to pursue justice how they saw morally fit, but ultimately their deceptionwas only
for selfish gain; Portia disguises herself to save a friend, and Vincentio disguises himself to know
the true feelings of his subjects, both manipulate the law in the name of justice while in their
disguises.
In The Merchant of Venice, the concept of disguise was briefly used by Jessica, Shylocks daughter,

The Omnivore s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals
Michael Pollan. New York: Penguin Group, 2006. 1 411 pp., (ISBN 978 0 14 303858 0).
As omnivorous beings, it seems that is both a blessing and a curse to have such a vast amount of
meal choices to choose from. In The Omnivore s Dilemma, Michael Pollan explores the majority of
these options and offers a sort of guide on how to make a choice. The UC Berkeley Graduate
School journalism professor takes us on an eye opening ride with this book where we find out
horrifying truths on the ingredients of the foods we eat every day and whether our choices benefit
our bank accounts more than they do our health and the earth.
The book is divided into three sections with each section focused on the major players in our diet
in terms of where they come from. The first section (consisting of the first seven chapters) would,
of course, focus the industrial food chain. The second emphasizes alternative foods, mainly organic
foods and the last section is based on hunter gatherer foods. Each section ends with a meal that he
consumes and gives us his thoughts on such.
Pollan begins his journey of exploring the industrial food chain by taking a trip to the supermarket.
Reason being, most Americans, buy their food from such stores. During this trip, he finds what
seems to be a wide variety of choices. However, majority of these choices have one thing in
common: they have corn in them or

Supervisory Platform and Evaluation System
In any school, student learning is the ultimate goal and the focus of an effective learning
community. In today s society, the education system is called upon to teach all students at high
levels. It has been established through significant research that teachers have a high impact on
student learning, according to the RAND Corporation, research suggests that, among schoolrelated
factors, teachers matter most. When it comes to student performance on reading and math tests, a
teacher is estimated to have two to three times the impact of any other school factor, including
services, facilities, and even leadership. In order to ensure that students have the greatest chance
for achievement, it is vital that school communities know that they have high quality teachers in
place. To accomplish this task, systems have developed that integrate set measures aligning what
teachers do and what happens as a result. These may include evidence of student work and
learning, as well as, evidence of teacher practices derived from observations, reflection, recordings,
artifacts, and various forms of feedback. Educational experts such as Marzano, Danielson, Stronge
and others have published examples of evaluation models. While they vary in emphasis and design,
they are similar in that they attempt to provide a framework for measuring the impact of a teacher
on a student s learning. Clearly, this is a daunting and challenging task and there is a risk involved

Themes In Vertigo
Vertigo is a 1958 American Psychological thriller film directed by one of the best director of all
times, Alfred Hitchcock. The movie shows many contexts like fear, obsession and fantasy. The
movie starts when John (Scottie) Ferguson (James Stewart) a detective retires from his job when
his fellow officer loses his life falling from the height. In this moment, he accidentally gains
acrophobia (fear of height). His friend Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore) wants him to tail and follow
Madeleine (Kim Novak) who is acting weird and strange recently. Scottie blames himself and feels
guilty when he can t save Madeleine from jumping off the tower. The film throughout the time
shows the different contexts to relate the theme of obsession and sexual fantasy. The film is one of
the top example in use of camera, cinematography, score and direction. The movie successfully
portrays how love turns into obsession, how fear leads these characters into different madness, by
the perfect use of color, cinematography and use of characters. Color is one of the essential part
of the movie. The use of color can determine various emotions in the film. It can add richness to
any scene. The use of white has always shown to describe the peace and purity, whereas the red
describes rage, anger and bad. Black is color of mystery usually used to show the darkness,
evilness of a scene. Hitchcock is a big fan of use of color, he has perfectly used the colors to
demonstrate the characters build up and add the depth to it. Scottie sees Madeleine for the first time
in the restaurant wearing a dark greencolor dress which makes her focus among the other people.
Scottie starts feeling something her, next day again when he follows her, Madeleine drives green
car which again tries to state that she is the main focus. The use of alternative colors in the movie
depicts how the characters are build up to the story, red is shown as the Scottie s obsession, fantasy
and love whereas green to create this uncanniness, and unrealism and yellow as a reality, and truth
of the matter.
In the next scene, Madeline drives to Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco which is red. She was
again showed in a green dress, which matches the sea color green. She jumps into the sea

Benefits Of Canada s Double Trade Policy
Although there will be agreement, the double trade policy is going to continue. The benefits of
carrying out this trade is far outweigh the harm. David Watt, HSBC Canada chief economist,
says that for Canada s heavily resource based economy, there are clear benefits to trade deals with a
country that is likely going to be a key driver of commodity prices for the next 30 years. And it
would be a huge mistake if Canadalet this chance go.
The government of Canada will support the policy. As a developing country, China has a large
amount of resource demand. Since Canada is rich in natural resources, the increasing export will
lead to the growth of Canada economic. We should see that as the trade policy continue, Canada
export increase, and there will be higher net export, which means the increase of GDP. We can
find exact evidence for this. The value of Canada s exports to China increased by 5.8% between
2012 and 2013, while the value of Canada s imports from the country grew by 4.0%. ... Show more

The Worldview Of The Christian Worldview
Introduction The word worldview means how an individual view the world around them. A
worldview is a complete system of how we perceive the world and process it. According to
Waddell (2014), a worldview is a foundational set of assumptions to which one commits that
serves as a framework for understanding and interpreting reality and deeply shapes one s
behavior. The worldview of an individual is usually influenced by the person s cultural
background, life experiences, and upbringing. The Christian worldview is under the board
umbrella of theism, which is a worldview that entails belief in the existence of at least one
personal and intelligent divine being (Cosgrove, 2006). A person of a Christian worldview itself is
someone who believes in the teaching of JesusChrist and believes Godcreated the world and
everything in it. This paper would attempt to summarize and analyze the essential elements of the
Christian worldview describing God, Humanity, Jesus, and Restoration. The writer will also reflect
on his own worldview. God
The Christian worldview believes in trinity, which means God is a trinity of persons. That is God
the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are one. This was evident during creation. In

issues I should address here. Since individuals all have their own attitudes, skills and even some

system in beginning and especially those housekeeping person did not want to replace the new
system with the old ones. They may not be equipped with appropriate skills to adopt

excavate the skeletons? Why was this surprising? They found a dark wooden staircase running
up in a rectangle and descending in a corner, hinting the remains of coffins, it wasn t expected
though as they thought they were looking at a grave of cholera victims. 5. What signs or
evidence do the scientists find that at least some of the men may not have died of cholera?
Coffin marks were found on the grave and when someone has cholera they are buried quickly
with no or little funeral as the disease is contagious spreading rapidly. Also it is not likely at all

In The Time Of The Butterflies And Antigone
In the Time of the Butterflies Essay
The novel In the Time of the Butterflies, by Julia Alvarez and the play Antigone by Sophocles,
both include similar characters, situations, and actions that react to the idea of a dangerous
growing authority. The characters Dede from the Time of the Butterflies and Ismene from
Antigone both strive to stay out of trouble with the government; however Dede s approach is
more effective as she becomes an oracle character by the end of the novel, for she lives to tell the
story of the Mirabal sisters. Dede uses her relationship with her sisters and her own family to
survive through the dangerous reign of Trujillo. When facing a regime such as Trujillo s regime,
the survivors who live to tell their story, like Dede, are crucial to understanding and analyzing
important historical moments. These survivors live through real tragedies, so they are primary
resources with personal opinions and experiences.
To begin, Dede s ability to support and stay in contact with her sisters without getting too
involved with the dangers of the government allow her to stay safe, as well as tell accurate
stories from the time of Trujillo s reign. Through all the struggles her sisters undergo, Dede still
supports and cares for them. Even after her sisters are freed from jail, Dede still finds herself in
the habit of staying over the nights before our visits. She said she had to be at Mama s early the
next day anyhow to help with all of the children once we left

Introduction To Invertebrate Palaeontology
In his book, Understanding fossils: an introduction to invertebrate palaeontology, Peter Doyle writes
this about the ongoing, and continuing formation of layers of the Earth:
The bodies of countless millions of organisms, microscopic and macroscopic, form whole rocks;
the invaders of the land, plants and animals, have helped shape the landscape by both accelerating
and reducing erosion.
Doyle gives an introduction to the beginnings of two scientific areas of study by explaining the
work of a Danish doctor. He explains that palaeontology has its roots in two subjects, geology and
biology. A Danish physician Niels Stensen, also known as Steno, who lived from 1638 1638, is
arguably credited with originating geology and paleontology. Discovering that sharks teeth found in
Tuscany rocks were identical to modern shark s teeth, Stensen ... Show more content on

discuss Phytoliths and their impact on the strata that have formed over time. A University of

soil, forming a record of past vegetation. They provide evidence of the plants found in the historic

Three Cups Of Tea Book Critique
Book Critique: Three Cups of Tea
With the milieu of increasing globalization, nurses have a moral responsibility to become global
citizens and extend their health promotion efforts beyond local communities to improve health for
all (Stamler, Yiu Dosani, 2016). Nussbaum (1997) identified narrative imagination the cognitive
process of taking on another person s perspective as a capacity for global citizenship. In an effort
to cultivate my global citizenship, I utilized narrative imagination while reading Three Cups of Tea
by Greg Mortenson David Oliver Relin (2006). This non fiction biography follows Greg Mortenson

Here he was offered kindness, food, and shelter despite how poverty stricken the village was.
Mortenson develops a passion for improving Pakistani children s education from this experience,
and promises to return and build the village a school as repayment for their kindness. This passion
grew from building a single school to co founding the Central Asia Institute, a non profit group
initiating more 400 projects in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan by 2016 (CAI, 2016). Three
Cups of Tea discusses Pakistan and Afghanistan s dysfunctional education systems, worsening
political conditions, and the prevalence of gender inequality. Much of Mortenson s humanitarian
efforts outlined in Three Cups of Tea focuses on rural high conflict regions where oppression of
women was the most prevalent and female literacy rates were low. The final section of the book
describes Mortenson s efforts with refugees during the Indian and Pakistan conflict. David Oliver

Old Burial Ground Analysis
The cemetery I have chosen is known as the Old Burial Ground, which is located in Cambridge,
MA. It is situated on the corner of Garden St. and Massachusetts Avenue, and is in the
neighborhood we know today as Harvard Square. Cambridge began as a settled community then
known as Newtown in 1631 by some of the first puritans. It was an area that early on allowed for
people to have a house with some area for harvesting crops. The town consisted of mostly farmers,
and artisans until the middle of the 18th century. Harvard Universitywas also introduced very early

a larger height, and more valuable material. The others, while having a considerable width did
not show reasonable height all coming in around 1foot or so. This could have been from a
settling or sinking into the ground over time. There was also one headstone that really stood out
having a more ornate cherub, along with a candle inscribed at the top. This particular one also
had very intricate lettering, and very deep detailed carving for the inscription. Among these
particular headstones the ages varied from eighteen to seventy two years old, and one had no
name inscribed into it. As stated by Harrison Hill (2012) there were also two people worth
noting in the cemetery they were Susanna, and Deacon Aaron Hill who was Deacon of the First
Church, and played an important role in the Revolutionary war. However he and his wife Susanna
both perished from the measles in 1792 (p. 6). The remaining headstones stood between around
two to three feet in height, and one to two feet wide. Most of the headstones reflected the deaths
head or urn/willow design that is common in New England. I also discovered a factor that I did not
think about when creating my hypothesis, and that was footstones. I would have assumed with
more material and labor involved this would have meant a greater cost involved. However, among

William Frankfurt s Little Book On Bullshit
Consistently, we can see clear cases of both bologna and lying and the differing outcomes of both
these activities. Be that as it may, what is horse crap, precisely? What are the qualities of bologna?
What is reality? Will horse crap be destructive? The motivation behind this paper is to answer these
inquiries while in the meantime demonstrating that horse crap can most likely once in a while be
hurtful. By looking at: the importance of horse crap as characterized by Harry Frankfurt, why
Frankfurt believes that bologna is hurtful, and an obviously safeguarded unique contention, the
likelihood of mischief from bullshitting will be demonstrated. In Harry Frankfurt s little book On
Bullshit , he recognizes the significance of bologna while in the meantime demonstrating to us
various ways that it can be destructive. The substance of horse crap fixates on the thought that
bullshitters have no sympathy toward reality. In any case, genuine horse crap broadens past this
inside thought on the grounds that we understand that bullshitters allocate no quality to truth in any
connection. To any individual who values reality in any way, horse crap can totally confuse them in
light of the fact that they think that its difficult to accept individuals would just totally dismiss
reality with no push to finding it. Bologna varies from lying in light of the fact that liars perceive
reality and simply decide to hoodwink on the grounds that they think something else or need others

For the criminals we are assuming that the utility from committing the violation crime is positive but
committing a murder is negative [1]. This comes out from the fact that most of the rapists
admitted that they never want to murder their victims. Rape is more about power play for them
where in undermining the victims right and thrashing their self respect , they feel a sense of
superiority which soothes their under confident self. Groth theory about sexual violence
succinctly describes it. [2] Also losing life is the biggest threat and the utility of losing life or
being susceptible to any such threat is also negative. So we assume that the payoff of raping and
killing is lower than being alive and hence gets a higher ordinal ranking. We also assume that
murders are worse crime than rapes (not that we are trying to weigh down the repercussions of
rape faced by the victim but it is ubiquitous in law system all over the world that punishment for
murder is severe as compared to rape, hence the

Essay On Judaism
In order for the humans in early history to create a successful civilization, they needed a few
main key components. First, these people needed a good food source so they can sustain a
growing population in their community. Next, they needed a strong army to survive wars between
other civilizations and each other. Finally, they needed a powerful leader to create laws for the
civilians. The Hebrews, a civilization in Canaan, did not have all of these key factors. Although,
they were still famous for their religion, Judaism. Judaism was unique compared to other religions
in the region because it focused on morality, gave the freedom to choose, and it was monotheistic.
All of the empires near the Hebrews were very warlike people. They had strong armies, weapons
such as iron weapons and horse drawn chariots, and some of these empires were very conquerors,

Monotheism is a religion that believes in one God. The Hebrews were the only civilization in their
area that were monotheistic. Most of the other civilizations in the area, such as the Persians,
Babylonians, and Egyptians, were polytheistic, which is the belief in many gods. Instead of having
one god for the universe, these polytheistic religions had gods of nature for different parts of nature.
For example, in ancient Egypt, the god Osiris was the god of the Nile river. These civilizations
near the Hebrew civilization had hundred or thousands of gods they all believed in, or only city
states in the area believed in. Because of these other civilizations beliefs, they did not like the
Hebrew s monotheistic religion. They got conquered by civilizations near them such as the

Compare And Contrast Yellowtone And Yellowstone
Hawaii and Yellowstone are two of the most visited places each year because of their beautiful
surroundings. What most people don t know about these places is that under the earth s crust
molten lava is ripping each apart piece by piece. While Yellowstone is known as a super volcano,
the big island of Hawaiiis made up of five different volcanoes. They could both erupt at any
minute. Those aren t the only similarities and differences of Yellowstone and Hawaii though. In
the future, scientists predict that Yellowstone will erupt very violently, leaving the United States
covered in inches of ash. While scientists think this will not happen for another 1 to 2 million
years it could happen at any minute (Cimons). While, Hawaii s future is already beginning to
unravel with a new island forming called Loihi. This new island is forming to the south of the
island of Hawaii 3,000 feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. There is a large and fierce...

A component of ammunition (casing and/or projectile) from the crime scene can be identified to the
firearm that fired it to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty Hernandez, G. (n.d.). At any
given time that a weapon is fired, there is that natural tendency that a unique print is left on the

the possession of a potential suspect, and would represent as an evidence against that suspect.
Casings found at the crime scene can be perfectly matched back to the gun in the possession of a

  • 2. One Child Policy Is it okay to kill a child never born? Is it okay to deprive a mother of giving breath to another life? It is okay to burden an only child s shoulders with responsibilities?A one child policy would inflict these issues upon many families. Although there are credible arguments to support each side of the debate, it is clearly inappropriate for the government to enact one child legislation in order to control the population. One reason the policy would be inappropriate is because it creates a disparity in the childbirth ratio. For example, China implanted the policy in 1979, and by the 1990s, the ratio of males to female had risen. The ratio of boys born compared to girls born reached a peak of 117: 100 after 1990, which is thought to be above... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high number of abortions...forced to pay fines...forced to undergo sterilizations...doctors perform 1,500 abortions even if the mother is already seven months pregnant ( 9 Advantages). This evidence shows the number of abortions some doctors have dealt with, what the women have to do just to avoid a fine. The women who go through this process just do not suffer physically, they suffer mentally and psychologically. Most parents want males during this policy because the males are the ones who will carry the namesake, have more opportunities to make money, and will provide labor. When the gender of the baby is revealed, and turns out to be female, later term abortions will be performed (Lombardo). This shows how parents wanted to get abortions now matter how long the pregnancy was. Parents did this because they can only have one child, and they want to make and get the most out of their ... • 3. Similarities Between Western Society And Russian Society Tolstoy s Views on Western Society vs Russian Society In the novel War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy the main families are identified as members of the Aristocratic, or Western, society in Russia. The novel s historical timeline includes the cultural shift from the original Russian culture seen in Moscow, to the more progressive Aristocratic society, seen in Saint Petersburg. In the novel Tolstoy uses subtle and some not so subtle indications that point toward his true opinion on the two different societies in which the characters interact in. The depiction of societal norms in Petersburg in the novel illustrates Tolstoy s views on Aristocratic culture as inferior to Russian culture; Tolstoy s views throughout the novel are that the Aristocratic culture brought western societal norms to Russia, and extinguished the original Russian culture and passion that Tolstoy idolized throughout the novel. The Western society and the culture that has developed there is seen in a negative manner throughout the novel. The characters who reside in this society and who are active participants in the culture are described as being involved in manipulative relationships, and are only after status, power and wealth in both these relationships and also in their careers. However, the Russian society and culture is seen in a much more positive way. The characters who live in this society and experience the culture are seen as pure and passionate. Each of these depictions of the different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Upper-Extremity Trauma Case Study Studies and surveys have shown that upper extremity injuries are a common result of pitching through youth, high school, and collegiate baseball leagues. There have been surveys taken to show the relation of elbow and shoulder injuries and pitching. Statistics taken describe (1) the proportion of pitchers with a history of pitching related upper extremity injury (2) proportion of pitchers with w history of pitching related elbow and shoulder injury that was treated through surgery (3)types of upper extremity injuries sustained by pitchers and (4) types of upper extremity injuries sustained by a certain age category around the same time of injury. Due to the results of this survey, I find pitching a very relevant subject when dealing with elbow and shoulder injuries. 1464 packets were sent out to 96 institutions and, out of the 629 consent forms and questionnaires mailed back, results have shown that 73 percent of injuries that resulted in surgery are sustained by pitchers. 71.7 percent of these pitchers played for universities in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I, 12.4% were in DII, 14% in DIII, and 1.9% were in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The average age of these pitchers was 20.1 21.6 years old.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means half of shoulder/elbow injuries reported by baseball players were from high school athletes, and the other half from college and professional league athletes. The elbow injuries sustained after age 18 were more likely to be treated surgically. • 5. Women in Movies Essay Women in Movies Since the 1940 s, movies have predominately portrayed women as sex symbols. Beginning in the 1940 s and continuing though the 1980 s, women did not have major roles in movies. When they did have a leading role the women was either pretreated as unintelligent and beautiful, or as conniving and beautiful: But she was always beautiful. Before the 1990 s, men alone, wrote and directedall the movies, and the movies were written for men. In comparison, movies of the 90 s are not only written and directed by women, but leading roles are also held by older and unattractive women. • 6. Gender Roles In Celie By Alice Walker In the text, the author differentiates the roles between females and males in society in both settings. Throughout the text there are many examples of women having the duty of being a caregiver and the men are the ones who do the hard physical work or even stand back and let the women do all the work and vice versa between settings. For example, in Celie s setting, there is a change between the roles of men and women. At first, Celie is the one who is doing all the work around the house. Celie is referred to as the one who holds the house down and do the things the men would not do. Celie here. Good housekeeper, good with children, good cook (Walker 20). Celie does not believe that Albert has changed from a man who would not do anything to help into a man who is doing everything on his own because he has no one left to help. Albert even decides to sew with Celie in the end which supports his change. Now us sit sewing and talking and smoking our pipes (Walker 272). • 8. Essay On The Restoration Period The period from 1660 to 1700 is known as the Restoration period. It was a period when King Charles II of England marked the beginning of a new era both in social life and the literature of England upon his return from exile. He revived a theatrical genre known as Comedies of Manners which was lewd and hilarious. The Way of the world depicts real picture of the restoration period connected to amoral and exploitative manners of the people. Therefore, this essay will be analyzed based on how the play acts as a social mirror of the restoration period in England during Congreve s time. First of all, the play is a dramatic representation of varieties of love that prevailed in England during the restoration period. Marriagewas just a mere game of love. • 9. Amazon s Mechanical Turk ( M Turk ) Essay Introduction The present study was an initial test for an online version of the road salting task. There was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to population that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education. Would other populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all previous data had been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task progress and preventing any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory environment, many aspects of the online testing environment are not under the experimenter s control. Participants could be distracted by simultaneously completing other online tasks or attending to other aspects of their environment. It is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis, Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The online testing environment used for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M Turk is a platform for thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents complete tasks for small monetary rewards. Evidence suggests that M Turk samples are reliable and reasonably representative of the general public and data quality does not seem affected by payment amount (Buhrmester, Kwang, Gosling, 2011; Mason Watts, 2009; Paolacci, Chandler, Ipeirotis, ... • 10. Comparative Analysis Of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum... Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in Cognitive Radio Networks Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its applications increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity. One of the best solutions to avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is a promising technology, which is used to sense the unused spectrum in an appropriate manner. Various methods have been proposed in the past, such as energy detection, matched filterand so on [1 6 7]. Different techniques serve different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the probability detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection, matched filter detectors based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated using MATLAB. The performance of energy detection, matched filter detector is compared by plotting probability detection versus signal to noise ratio graph. Keywords: Spectrum Sensing, Cognitive Radio, Wireless Communication, Energy Detection, Matched Filter, Probability Detection and Threshold. I. • 11. SWOT Analysis Of The PESTLE Model The PESTLE model applies the political economic social technological legal and environmental climate to assess the effect on the goals and objectives of the practice. (See Figure 1) Kurt Lewins force field theory adds demographics and cultural effects to this mix. A SWOT analysis can be applied in conjunction with these to highlight the strengths weaknesses and the opportunities and threats that will impact the practice (See Appendix III) Figure 1 Workforce Management Tools (WFM) are utilised to allocate tasks to individual skills, with time lines and other parameters. This aims to maximise efficiency and quality of service offered. OFP ensure that the organisational (National Health Service England NHSE), the team (GP Practice) and the individual (staff) goals are clear, well managed and aligned. This should maximise efficiency and quality of service (Valls et al 2009). The cost of labour (workforce) is a significant cost. The impact if workforce relevant skills are lacking is an increase in cost and time taken to perform tasks and a decrease in productivity (Capece and Costa 2009) (Capece and Bazzica 2013). Reduce cost of labour without compromising quality (Van der Bergh et al 2013) pursue both simultaneously. There is distinction between front line and back office activity. • 14. The Doctrine Of Pre Established Harmony Causation was a very important topic of philosophical reflection during the 17th century. This reflection centered and focused around certain particular causation problems. Among those problems was the problem between the mind and the body. The doctrine of Pre established Harmony, is Leibniz s response to the problem of causation between mind and body. To begin with, Leibniz in his proposition rejected Descartes 3rd proposition about mind and body casually interacting as for him the mind does not act upon the body and the body does not act upon the mind. Leibniz feels that that no finite substance, created substance acts upon another. Therefore, he denies any causation among finite or created substances. He even claimed the following, There is also no way of explaining how a monad can be altered or changed internally by some other creature (...) The monads have no windows through which something can enter or leave. Accidents cannot be detached, nor can they go about outside of substances, as the sensible species of the Scholastics once did. Thus, neither substance nor accident can enter a monad from without. (Monadology В§7). Monad is Leibniz s technical term for individual substances. In the following passage just quoted, Leibniz is rejecting intersubstancial causation between created or finite substances. For Leibniz, the world is created of infinitely many finite substances, which are completely and casually isolated from one another. These substances cannot act upon ... In today s society, the education system is called upon to teach all students at high levels. It has been established through significant research that teachers have a high impact on student learning, according to the RAND Corporation, research suggests that, among schoolrelated factors, teachers matter most. When it comes to student performance on reading and math tests, a teacher is estimated to have two to three times the impact of any other school factor, including services, facilities, and even leadership. In order to ensure that students have the greatest chance for achievement, it is vital that school communities know that they have high quality teachers in place. To accomplish this task, systems have developed that integrate set measures aligning what teachers do and what happens as a result. These may include evidence of student work and learning, as well as, evidence of teacher practices derived from observations, reflection, recordings, artifacts, and various forms of feedback. Educational experts such as Marzano, Danielson, Stronge and others have published examples of evaluation models. In this moment, he accidentally gains acrophobia (fear of height). His friend Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore) wants him to tail and follow Madeleine (Kim Novak) who is acting weird and strange recently. Scottie blames himself and feels guilty when he can t save Madeleine from jumping off the tower. The film throughout the time shows the different contexts to relate the theme of obsession and sexual fantasy. The film is one of the top example in use of camera, cinematography, score and direction. The movie successfully portrays how love turns into obsession, how fear leads these characters into different madness, by the perfect use of color, cinematography and use of characters. Color is one of the essential part of the movie. The use of color can determine various emotions in the film. It can add richness to any scene. The use of white has always shown to describe the peace and purity, whereas the red describes rage, anger and bad. Black is color of mystery usually used to show the darkness, evilness of a scene. Hitchcock is a big fan of use of color, he has perfectly used the colors to demonstrate the characters build up and add the depth to it. Scottie sees Madeleine for the first time in the restaurant wearing a dark greencolor dress which makes her focus among the other people. Scottie starts feeling something her, next day again when he follows her, Madeleine drives green car which again tries to state that she is the main focus. The use of alternative colors in the movie depicts how the characters are build up to the story, red is shown as the Scottie s obsession, fantasy and love whereas green to create this uncanniness, and unrealism and yellow as a reality, and truth of the matter. In the next scene, Madeline drives to Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco which is red. She was again showed in a green dress, which matches the sea color green. She jumps into the sea ... David Watt, HSBC Canada chief economist, says that for Canada s heavily resource based economy, there are clear benefits to trade deals with a country that is likely going to be a key driver of commodity prices for the next 30 years. • 54. Trajectories, Gunshot Residue Patterns On The Victims... Trajectory, Gunshot residues (GSR), Firearms, Spent casing distribution, Individualization of Projectiles and Casings, are common types of ballistic evidence that would be present at a Crime Scene. ) As an investigator in any shooting scene looking for evidence from (GSR), the victims clothing should be collected and properly preserved for gunshot residue analysis. This category of evidence can be serious to a shooting reconstruction since trajectory analysis is very limited in finding the distance from where the suspect fired such shot from. The combination of the trajectory analysis and the results of muzzle to target distance determination from gunshot residue patterns on the victims clothing (image 1) could prove key to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When these steps are properly followed, then such evidence as an item should be labelled as Biohazard and handled accordingly and send to the lab. GSR can be collected from a subject s clothing because GSR particles will tend to adhere to the weave of the fabric Patterson, J. (2014, August 13). A component of ammunition (casing and/or projectile) from the crime scene can be identified to the firearm that fired it to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty Hernandez, G. (n.d.). At any given time that a weapon is fired, there is that natural tendency that a unique print is left on the fired weapon. This print appears in the form of unique impressions or striations also called tool marks. The Evidence of Casing or projectile from any crime scene would be traced to a firearm in the possession of a potential suspect, and would represent as an evidence against that suspect. Casings found at the crime scene can be perfectly matched back to the gun in the possession of a suspect and should be packaged separately and put in paper envelopes or small cardboards pillboxes. For the avoidance of changing the face of each individual characteristic of such items, in cases where knives or other sharp objects are being recovered at the scene and are to be sent to the lab for tool marks, fingerprints, serology, etc, aspect like the blade and point should be wrapped in firm, unshakable ...
