In life we all want to see things as black and white, cut and dry, and easy to understand. This is
not the case with Robert E. Lee. He was smart, loyal and above all, complicated. We like to make
him out as some old general guy who fought for the South in the Civil War. Eventually lost at
Gettysburg and because it was the turning point of the Civil War; he became famous for losing.
He is a lot more than just that. He was an actual person who, from his birth up to his death, dealt
with real life situations. On January 19, 1807, Robert E. Lee was born in Stratford, Virginia to
Henry and Anne Lee. His father was a Revolutionary War hero, nicknamed Light Horse Harry ,
also being a Major General. Being born in a military family, Robert seemed likely to follow in his

Through advancements in technology over the years, a new form of television surrounded by the
idea of narrative complexity arose (Mittell 31). In Jason Mittell s book, Complex TV: The Poetics
of Contemporary TelevisionStorytelling, he argues that narratively complex programs allows
viewers to participate actively by underlining the conventional traditions of storytelling, but also
integrating inventive and long term strategies to attract viewers and create a fan base. This idea of
narrative complexity stems from the balance between both television s traditional episodic form
and serial form. ABC s breakout television show, How to Get Away with Murder, is an example of
a program that implements devices such as nonlinear storytelling and seasonal arcs in order to
develop a complex narrative that fosters engagement in audiences and comments on contemporary
TV viewing.

different media has an operational aesthetic that conforms to the conceptualization of a form of

The Salem Witch Trials The Salem witch trials were an important event in American history.
However this affected more than Salem, the ripples from these trials swept throughout the United
States. Over two hundred witches where accused and twenty where killed. Later the judges
admitted that they had been mistaken and tried to make it right but frictions lasted for a long time
after word. (Blumberg, 2007) The main reason behind the Salem Witch Trials was fear. The
location of Salem was a town that was on the edge of the settled colonies. Therefor the settlers of
this area had many reasons to fear death, by starvation, sickness, or being killed and scalped by
the Native American that lived in the forest. The people that lived in constant fear took it out on
the weaker people. These weaker people where; the old, the poor, and women. When the
movement started this fear compelled the people to take action. (Salem Witch Trials, 2011)
These trials started in Salem when some young girls had fits. The doctor said it was because of
witches and the town blamed several women. Titub, one of the accused, was a slave form the

Getting ready to go on stage, I felt the first stomach sinking feeling of being truly nervous, for
the first time in my life. Eliza Gant was the character staring in my high school s spring play, and
she had completely taken over my being. Her motherly instinct found its way into my teenage

That was when almost as if someone had pulled a string, my stomach and head stopped hurting.
Socially, Homer always seemed fine. He had a great group of friends the rocket boys throughout
the story. By the end of the book, his social circumstances were even better as Homer was
regarded as almost a small town hero in Coalwood after winning the science fairs. He still had a
great group of friends that he was with since before and during high school and the community
liked him and his friends a lot; this most evident after listening to the people watching the boys
drive to their last launch: Some people saw the rocket sticking out of the window, and shouts of

go! . People from all over the county respected the boys, especially Homer. Homer was in great
shape at the end of the book physically, emotionally, and socially, having stayed true to what he
wanted to do, and sticking with his friends. Personally, I like Homer. He tries to please everyone
he knows with whatever he does. He seems genuine and puts a lot of work into everything he
does. One thing I noticed about Homer that is most admirable is that he did not give up when he
