Bone Marrow Syndrome In Chernobyl
On April 27th, exactly 30 years ago, the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine, played forth as we
know it today. Many believe the fault and cause of the accident had many results. (Burlakova, Elena
B.) Many elements played a part in this great nuclear disaster that lead to multiple deaths, many long
term health effects in humans and wildlife, and ultimately still causing issues to this day. On the
afternoon of April 26th, the staffs of the Chernobyl nuclear plant were about to do testing on the fourth
unit of the nuclear facility, and ultimately the unit that caused the destruction of the plant. They were
testing safety features of certain hardware to see if the system could run for a minute in the
catastrophic event of total power failure. (Leatherbarrow) The purpose of the pumps and steam turbine
system that was being tested was to keep the reactor having cool water flow to the core continuously.
Without a constant water flow to cool the core, the reactor itself would ultimately melt down. The
pumps that direct the flow of the cooling water run on the electricity that the plant produced itself; so

Bone marrow syndrome, which kills the bone marrow and results in a sever infection and ultimately
hemorrhage. Gastrointestinal Syndrome, which changes to the GI tract cause infection, electrolyte
imbalance, and dehydration and is in most cases fatal within a matter of weeks. Lastly there is Central
Nervous System syndrome, which death is most certain within days due to the decomposition of the
circulatory system and extreme pressure on the brain. The common symptoms between all of the
above syndromes are fatigue, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, coma, and, in the worst case,

Medical Director For Snohomish County Emergency Medical...
Dr. Eric Cooper is the medical director for Snohomish County Emergency Medical Services
(SCEMS). SCEMS is made up of numerous Fire Departments and Private Ambulance providers to
serve the citizens of the county (E. Cooper, personal communication, May 23, 2016). All of the Fire
Department services are on the same instance of Electronic Health Record (EHR). Implementation of
the EHR began in 2010, with Advanced Life Support entities. In 2013 the EHR vendor added a feature
called Health Data Exchange (HDE) as an option. This feature allows bi directional flow of
information from the pre hospital EHR to the hospital EHR. For the first time, pre hospital providers
can get outcomes on the patients they treat, and hospitals can have the ... Show more content on

One reason that Providence won this award is the fact that they have a single instance of Epic installed
system wide. It should be noted that Providence and Swedish, although merged, do operate on two
different instances of Epic EHR. In order to transition to a single instance of Epic the cost would be
$30 million, compared to a $500,000 interface that connects the two systems (E. Cooper, personal
communication, May 23, 2016).
Proposal
McDonald (1997) points out that health care data is siloed in multiple areas that are inaccessible to
others. This kind of management of patient data does not serve the patient well. It is for this reason
that SCEMS approached Providence and Swedish hospitals to propose implementation of HDE.
Moreover, as stated in the McDonald article a feasible way to integrate data from disparate sources is
through the use of interfaces such as the HDE. In addition, a problem that exists in the integration of
these two data sources is the fact that the hospital system communicates via the standard HL7
language, while the pre hospital system communicates via XML. Fortunately, the HDE structure
accounts for this difference by translating back and forth between the two different languages. With
this in mind, SCEMS requested a meeting with members of the Providence and Swedish teams in
order to propose implementation of HDE (E. Cooper, personal communication, May 23,

First Letter To Corinthians
There are many meaningful passages in the Holy Bible, but a passage from the first letter to the
Corinthians touched me the most. Your every act should be done with love (1 Corinthians 16:14).
Readers must read the first letter to the Corinthians as a whole book before attempting to understand
the passage, because apostle Paul, the author of the text, provides readers with a thorough
understanding into the life of an early Christian community of the first generation than any other book
of the New Testament. Paul may have written more, but there are only two epistles documented in the
New Testament with the other two included within the two canonical epistles, which he wrote to the
Christian church in the city of Corinth. During the year 56, the community of Corinth was manifesting
open factionalism: certain members were distinguishing themselves solely with individual Christian
leaders, living publicly in an incestuous union, engaged in legal conflicts in pagan courts of law,
participating in religious prostitution, and performing temple sacrifices. The lively pagan culture that
Corinth was famous for had crept into the church making it difficult to identify the Christians and non
Christians. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

commands should spring from, and be done in love for him, and their conduct and behavior towards

things be done with charity (1 Corinthians 16:14). Paul emphasizes that love should bear all things,
cover legions of sins, and that all the Corinthians church affairs and meetings should be conducted in
peace with mutual affection instead of animosity and arrogance. The main message Paul is conveying

Abe Lincoln Battle Of Gettysburg Essay
Abe Lincoln and the Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg took place in the town of
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. John Buford led Union troops to Gettysburg and when he arrived him and
his men were informed that the Southern troops that they were looking for had just left the town. This
was the beginning of one of the bloodiest battles in all of history. From the outside of Gettysburg the
Southern General James Pettigrew reported to his superiors that he had visited shops in Gettysburg in
order to buy the shoes that his soldiers direly needed. When he was in town he saw the advancement
of the Northern Union troops and fed the town as fast as they could. General Henry Heth read this
report and did not believe what he saw, so he said that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, General Lee was the leader of the Confederate army. He divided the army into three different
divisions. By mid June, all of these divisions were on the move North to the North. During their travel
up North, they did have a lot of random battles with Northern troops, however they continued on their
way almost steamrolling over all the Northern troops. On June 21, however one of the divisions that
was led by General Ewell, entered into Chambersburg Pennsylvania. A few days later, the other two
divisions arrived in Pennsylvania. They took food and horses from the farms that scattered around the
countryside. One of the Confederate soldiers wrote to his wife explaining that they were doing all of
this to pay back these people for some of the damage that they have done us even though we are not
doing them half as bad as they have done us. The soldier added, We will have to fight here, and when
it comes it will be the biggest on record. The Southern Confederate troops in Pennsylvania were
somewhat scattered, however General Lee was not even worried about this. He felt safe, mainly
because he believed that their enemy General Hooker s Union army had yet to cross over the Potomac
River. Lee, however did not realize one key thing and that was that his scouts were so far away that
they could not report to him quickly which had then meant that General Lee still did not even know

Characteristics Of Airasia Competitive Strategy
Competitive Strategy
Based on Porter 5 Forces(1980) diagram to build four prominent business strategy, cost leadership,
differentiation which can be combined to build the competitive strategy.
Figure 1
Cost leadership is one of the most common business strategies which refer to the organization s ability
to produce a product or service at a cost below competitors can achieve between AirAsia and other
airlines. However, the implementation of cost leadership strategies requires a consistent focus on
driving costs to generate profit margin. Instead of the offering lower cost price, customer also
considering the differentiation offered by AirAsia which they are willing to pay at any prices.
Choosing the differentiation and characteristics of the products and service recommended or method
in which it is delivered and developing organizational capabilities required to achieve the fundamental
difference is a big challenge for companies (Mohammad Sunman Sarker. 2013).
Presently, tough economy condition =s has enable AirAsia to attract new segment pf customers

Rhetoric Of Pericles Funeral Oration
Pericles Funeral Oration Analysis Pericles, as we know, was an exceeding leader and statesmen for
most of Athen s reign during the 5th century B.C.E. He was an extremely successful man, and well
rounded in many aspects of Athenian leadership. He wasn t just a statesman for Athens, he was a
persuasive politician, glorified military leader, and filled with boastful patriotism towards Athens. It
was common ritual for speeches to be given to the survived families of the fallen after war, but
Pericles take on the speech was a little different than the ordinary. Pericles focused greatly on the
significance of a democratic government. His goal was to raise the spirits of the fallen soldiers
families , and build patriotism in their hearts to get them motivated to fight for their freedom in
Athens. Pericles was a very persuasive speaker, and his Funeral Oration speech was indeed successful
in its mission: convince the people that the fallen soldiers shouldn t be mourned, but rather raise their
patriotism and to follow in the footsteps of the fallen, and to fight for their honor, freedom, and
democracy as a whole. Pericles speech was not a lie, but rather a persuasive and manipulative speech
to capture the fallen spirits during a tough time of war. The speech wins the people in the crowd over
with a sense of pride over Athens. Their democratic republic was a unique government for their time,
and Pericles takes advantage of his words by proclaiming, Our constitution does not copy the laws of
neighbouring states; we are rather a pattern to others than imitators ourselves. This statement reminds
the people of Athens that their community is different than the surrounding nations, and that they
should be proud of where they have gotten. A hint of direction comes into play, though, when Pericles
goes on to say, If we look to the laws, they afford equal justice to all in their private differences...nor
again does poverty bar the way, if a man is able to serve the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity
of his condition. Comparing this statement to the laws of the Spartans, it increases even further the
sense of patriotism that Pericles is trying to raise within the crowd. With the Spartans government

Articles Of Confederation Achievements
Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was very weak and unable to
accommodate the nation after declaring its independence (Schultz, 2010). The Articles of
Confederation was a document drafted by the Continental Congress between 1776 and 1777, which
defined the colonies power and authority. Although the Articles were ready for ratification the
following year, it would not go into effect until 1781 after all thirteen states were in agreeance.
Once the Articles were ratified, they made three notable achievements (Schultz, 2010). First, they
showcased that the government consisted of laws that limited its authority. Minimizing the power that
the government wielded was important to the people because they had just escaped rule from Great
Britain. Next, the Articles made it clear that there would be no titles or a class system in the nation,
granting equal rights to all qualifying members. Finally, the Articles of Confederation had
accomplished a functional way of the organization regarding the new lands obtained in the west. ...

First, the Articles required that all states must agree on any bills before becoming law. This is the most
significant flaw because each state had their own distinct needs and interests, it would be challenging
to pass any bill that would be equally beneficial to all thirteen states. For example, the nation was very
much in debt due to the recent war and needed a way to raise funds. Therefore, Congress passed a bill
that would have put a 5 percent tax on all imported goods. However, because the Articles needed full
unanimity, the bill died because Rhode Island was against it as the state depended on imported

Indigenous Rights and Land Claims Around the World Essay
With globalization and colonization taking over almost the entire known world, native tribes who are
indigenous to their lands are losing control of the lands that their people have lived in for ages to the
hands of foreign colonizers who claim the land as their own. Now, indigenous people all around the
world are struggling to reclaim the lands and rights that were taken away from them through non
violent social relations with national governments and large corporations. Anthropologists have
recorded how indigenous people across the globe attempt to create relations with national
governments to reclaim rights and lands that they once had before the colonization of their ancestral
homeland. Compiled in this essay are three examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their struggle is soon brought to court where they requested to be considered citizens of the Nisga a
nation, rather than being considered citizens of Canada. Eventually, a treaty is signed between them
and the federal government so the Nisga a people can claim sovereignty over their ancestral
homeland, while still being confined within the nation state. This article helps answer the question of
this essay by showing the effects of globalization through colonization on aboriginal people s
identities. Since their land had been under colonization, the Nisga a found it absolutely necessary to
fight for their national identity to claim autonomy from the colonizers. By having the right to call

President John F. Kennedy s New Frontier
For this assignment I chose to write about President John F. Kennedys New Frontier. I will be
discussing what the agenda of the New Frontier was. And how successful was the program. And what
type of policy did Kennedy follow in the Cold War, and what was successful about it and what failed.
After whining the 1960 election, John F. Kennedy proposed new tasks for the United States. During
his inauguration speech, he proposed a new challenge to his fellow Americans to Ask not what your
country can do for you ask what you can do for your country. Many Americans reacted positively
toward his challenge by working towards social justice and in joining the peace corps . The country
stood united and had a positive outlook. In 1957 the latest frontier was space, when the Soviet Union

. His inaugural address stressed the challenge between the free world and the communist world, and
he vowed that the American people would pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support

The Bay of Pigs During the Eisenhower administration president Kennedy was informed about the
preparation of the Cuban exiles for invasion of their homeland. The proposal projected that backing
from the Cuban public and maybe the Cuban military that possibly would lead to the rebellion of
Castro and to establishing of a non communist government friendly to the United States. Kennedy
approved the operation and some 1,400 exiles landed at Cuba s Bay of Pigs on April 17 . But the
whole force was either killed or captured, and the operation failed which the president took full

Evening On the Sea, 1877 by Frederic Edwin Church
Frederic Edwin Church was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1826 and became a leading figure in the
Hudson River school of Painters. His wealthy background helped him with he success in art. His
father was the founder of Aetna Insurance. His first instruction came from Benjamin Coe. By 1950s
and 1960s, Frederic Church had become the most famous painter in America. People could queue and
pay fifty cents in the 1850s and 1860s to view the single canvas at his New York dealer, William
Stevens Williams. Most of his paintings were about dramatic landscapes that showed beautiful
moments in nature. In 1877, Church was suffering from rheumatism, which crippled his left hand,
hence compelling him to paint with his left hand. Frederic Church began designing and redesigning
various aspects of his home, Olana in 1877. I choose to write my essay on the painting of Evening on
the Sea, that is one of the best arts of Frederic Church in 1877. The Evening On the Sea portrait using

Consequences of Urban Sprawl
Since the development of cities, urban sprawl has reached unprecedented levels and is expected to
continue to increase at an alarming rate. Urban areas are highly modified environments that undergo
significant structural changes (fragmentation, degradation and loss of habitat), increased disturbance
(noise, light pollution, human activities) and amplified pollution (gases, fine particles, heavy metals.
Thus, urban life imposes difficult and restrictive condition that can have detrimental effects on
wildlife.
Among all the major urban associated factors, one has recently received a lot of attention:
Anthropogenic noise. Expanding urbanization had led to a strong increase in the levels of background
noise and there is increasing evidence that noise pollution can have a collection of harmful effect on
wildlife, especially birds because they considerably rely on acoustic communication. Urban noise is
characterized by high amplitude and low spectral frequencies. As a result, urbanization creates a novel
acoustic environment in which high noise level can mask songs and others important avian
communication signals. To date, most of the work about the impact of chronic noise exposure on
wildlife has mainly focused on the masking of avian acoustic signals and the consequences of
communication impairment. Because birds use songs mostly to attract mates and to defend their
territories masking of these biologically important acoustic signals may have a dramatic impact on
their

Christian Beliefs Of The Trinity
A cornerstone teaching of many Christian beliefs is that of the Trinity. It is also a debated and
misunderstood concept. Besides being just outright refuted, there are a couple of ways in which the
Trinity is misunderstood. These misunderstandings can relate to other religions which a person may be
more familiar with, or might believe. God as the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit is a difficult
concept to embrace fully but is not much unlike the concept of understanding an omniscient and
omnipotent being that exists before during and after time. There are several explanations that help our
human brains comprehend the concept and differentiate the Trinity from other religions. Two common
religions view the Trinity as three gods such as Paganism or is one God that reveals himself in three
different forms or persons such as Monism. An individual with a Pagan view might see the Trinity as
three gods. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as separate and different but related gods with the
same purpose. This would be a similar view similar a few that of the Greeks with their many different
God of the Pantheon. A person looking at the Trinity with a background in something like Hinduism,
might see the mentioning of the Trinity and related back to their beliefs or knowledge. Hindu might
see the Father as one God while the Son is a manifestation of the father but not a true God. The same
could be seen for the Holy Spirit. By explaining the Trinity, it is seen of these views are

The truth of real life is there, but it is dated. In the past, students were able to be physically paddled
for behavior issues. Peer influences can change the way a person reacts in a tricky situation. For
Bruce, he receives positive peer pressure from the entire school assembly when Trunchbull claims he
stole her cake. She requires him to eat an entire cake that one of the lunch ladies has made for him. At
first he does well with a steady pace. He then becomes fuller and fuller. When there is just a little bit
under half left on the platter, Matilda arises from the seated crowd and starts cheering and chanting
Bruce to motivate him. After she starts, Lavender and the rest of the school assembly join in chanting
to encourage Bruce to finish the cake. Once Bruce finishes the cake and is miserable, he stands up and
licks the platter clean. Trunchbull is not happy with the reaction, so she shatters the platter over his
head, and then a reaction of classical conditioning happens again. The students immediately become
silent and sit down. The real life aspect of the idea that students back other students up are still true.
This specific situation would not happen in an entire school. Positive peer pressure is all around a

when someone achieved something. The idea that someone is forced to eat a cake for punishment in

Inflection Or Difference In President Nixon s Vocal
Inflection or difference in President Nixon s vocal Inflection refers to the alteration occurring in a
speech which often results to doubts in the mind of a reader or listener. In the case of President Nixon,
the 37th president of America there is a lot of suspicion about his character and leadership when one
does review the tapes. A good example is when he clearly stated in public that he was not a crook as
the Water scandal was revealed. The Watergate scandal the president was clearly portrayed as the
leading actor based on an intensive listening of the tapes. It tended to place doubts in his character
(The Smoking Gun Tape, 2016). Another example is when we review his speech on March 1973 the

the eyes of the public the president gave various reasons to ensure that the war went on. The reason

Asian and link it with the rest of Pacific region (Nichter, 2015). Critic analysis of these tapes shows
the sound infection element was used to cover up different situation during the leadership of Nixon.
Surprising situation in the assignment When listening to the tapes, it is amazing how President Nixon
ascended to power. The president seemed to be suffering from split personality disorder where he had
a different façade in public that portrayed him as an intelligent and conservative leader. In the confines
of his office, the president was often heard plotting ways to cover up a number of scandals. One
surprising cover up is the 181/2 minute gap that occurred when one of the tapes was being transcribed.
The president denied knowledge of the situation but based on the analysis of the tapes he seems to
have had a hand in this cover up too.

Relations Between Russia And The United States
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to own and operate a business in Russia? As
Americans, we pretty much know the ins and outs of business there us operations in the United States,
even if one has never owned a business; it is already implied. What are the key differences in business
between Russia and the United States? Politics in business is apparent in America, but what about in
Russia? To what extent does the Russian government interfere in business, if at all? The laws of
business may be as different as night and day between the two countries. Russian and American
cultures are definitely different, but what roles do the two cultures play in business? Language
differences are most certainly a barrier when running a business in Russia, as an American. Where
there are politics, there is also corruption, despite which country one is conducting business in. Is there
a considerable difference, though, between the two governments and levels of corruption? These are
questions a person must ask themselves if they are to consider running a business outside of their
native country. We are going to use Russia as an example in this experiment to see what the
differences are, if any, between the two powerhouse nations in the world of business. Many officials at
the top of the Russian political ladder do not seem to think the economy in Russia is stable enough to
last a moderate amount of time. The main reason many people think the Russian economy is in

Essay On Emphysema
Emphysema
Around 2 million Americans suffer from emphysema. Emphysema is known as a disease of the lung
that cause shortness of breath due to over inflation of the alveoli or air sacs in the lungs. It is a
progressive and irreversible condition in which the alveoli are damaged by inhaled irritants. In this
paper I will be discussing with you the causes, the process in which this disease develops, signs and
symptoms, the diagnosis, and any treatment of emphysema.
Causes
Emphysema is caused by a plethora of problems that I will soon discuss, but the number one cause of
emphysema is due to smoking. It is known that 85% of patients who get emphysema smoke, but not
all smokers will develop emphysema depending on their genetics. Smoking destroys the lung tissue
obstructing the airflow and can also cause inflammation and irritate the airways causing an
obstruction. Smoke damages the cilia in the bronchial tubes which are basically tiny hairs that usually

Some patients dealing with emphysema may not even know they have the disease. The common
symptom of emphysema is shortness of breath. Its noticed during the earlier stages of the disease
when you re exercising or doing strenuous activities, also a chronic cough would be present. In the
later stages patients start to feel breathless while at rest, catching infections in the lungs often,
wheezing, fatigue, cyanosis of the extremities and copious mucus. The most noticeable sign of
emphysema is when a patient has pursed lipped breathing. That s when the patient has a hard time
exhaling completely to empty the trapped air in their lungs, so when they purse their lips creating a
small opening, it increases the pressure in the restricted airways, allowing them to open to empty the
trapped air. Patients tend to develop barrel chest as a result from air trapping due to obstructed

The 1985 film Witness displays the concept of No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is an
island, entire of itself, a part of the main. This means that every man has a place within
society/community and cannot make one by himself. Peter Weir explores this in the film with
belonging and not belonging, and is shown through the narrative, context, camera angles, soundtrack
etc. From different perspectives, in the film, it may or may not be possible to successfully withdraw
from mainstream society and belong to a closed community. It is stated that every man is a part of the

perspectives in Peter Weir s film, Witness .

Environmental Contamination
The question lies does environmental contamination have a major effect on real estate properties?
Well environmental contamination turns out can cost the owner of the property or a potential buyer.
Environmental contamination on a property may have some implication on the on the property value.
Not only could potentially hurt the owner or potential buyer financially it could also do physical
damage to the property as well.
As a property owner or potential buyer they must be aware of what environmental contamination can
do to the property. There can be a range of things from toxic waste, noise pollution, the quality of
water and condemned properties. The risk of toxic waste left on or contaminates a property could
cause the property to sell at a lower price compared to similar properties. These toxic in ... Show more

control, the right of exclusion, the right of enjoyment and the right of disposition. With the property

Historical Website Review
Website: 17th Century Colonial New England
Producer: Margo Burns
Description: 17th Century New England and the Salem Witchcraft Trials
17th Century Colonial New England The 17th Century Colonial New England historical website was
produced and maintained by Margo Burns. Margo Burns is an independent scholar with a bachelor s
degree in English from Mount Holyoke College. While she has no academic background in history,
she has a growing reputation for specializing in the Salem witch trials, especially those in North
Andover. There is much history to explore in the 17th century; however, the witch trials of Salem have
attracted more scholarly attention than most events in colonial America. Although some of the recent
scholarship examines these trials, there is still so much more to learn about this revolutionary event
that impacted the American society. The Web site, 17th Century Colonial New England, can help
mitigate interested researchers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although she is one of many thousands of such descendants, the intriguing trials of Salem have long
fascinated writers and historians. In addition, she derived an interest in the subject when she got her
role as an Associate Editor and Project Manager of the new book of scholarly transcriptions of all the
primary sources of the legal records of the witchcraft prosecutions... Therefore, as the site s creator,
Burns provides a topical structured website with nine documents from the trials; an account of one
witchcraft trial written by Cotton Mather; four documents from Salem court records; an annotated
bibliography with 26 titles; a table listing more than 200 people accused of witchcraft from their place
of residence, a year of accusation, and jurisdiction; and a discussion of historical inaccuracies in

Dennis O Rouke s Cannibal Tours
Dennis O Rouke s documentary Cannibal Tours , filmed in 1988, the famous director at the time had
much thought in regards to how the civilized tourists diminished the primitives and their culture. The
documentary is based on the experiences of European tourists as they traveled through the boundaries
of Sepik River in New Papua, Guiana. In the documentary, at first it appears to be that the Europeans
want to learn more about the culture of the natives in the land and to better understand their way of
life. Yet, as these tourists begin their journey they are surprised that the native s culture is a lot
different from their own. The tourists begin to believe that the natives were poor and uncivilized in

judgments on the behaviors of native, because they (europeans) lack intellectual awareness and
education to understand the lifestyle of natives. In this scene the film reminded me of the theme of
Cultural Relativism, as the tourist were making judgments on the behaviors of the primitives without
understanding the amount of intellectual awareness these lack of the European culture. I believe that
every culture deserves respect; tourist traveling into new countries should not portray the natives as
uneducated or uncivilized, without first understanding their culture. This attitude not only diminishes

Women s Rights Socially, Economically, And Politically
Throughout history mistakes are made, tragic events occur, and wars arise. As a result, people
document these events, write stories, or simply express their emotions. In particular, this can be seen
in many American movements such as Romanticism in which people believed logic and reason can
only get one so far. As time passed these movements became a thing of the past and are seen irrelevant
in today s modern age. However, one movement that is still relevant today is the advancement or
support of women s rights socially, economically, and politically. For instance, three texts that still tie
with Feminism today is April Showers, A Journey, and Fullness of Life. In April Showers, the author
illustrates the many difficulties a woman undergoes attempting to support her family by being a writer.
Furthermore, in A Journey, it depicts the hardships a woman encounters when she is forced to accept
the unknown. Lastly, in the story Fullness of Life, it displays a woman meeting her destined partner in
the afterlife, which leads her to realize that what she wanted is not what she needed and as a result, she
decides to wait for her husband leaving her destined partner. Overall these works still demonstrate the
cruelties and unfairness that females endure in America today. Therefore the most relevant American
author today is Edith Wharton because her work still reflects women s oppression in the workplace,
their struggle to be completely independent and be thoroughly understood by

Plato And Philo Reflection Paper
Philosophy came from two Greek words: Philo (love) and Sophia (wisdom). It was Pythagoras who
coined the term and he was the first to call himself as a lover of wisdom. According to St. Thomas
Aquinas, a theologian and a philosopher who was inspired from the works of Aristotle said that
Philosophy is the science of all things in their ultimate causes. In Modern Period, the Rationalists
believed that reason makes man and it is the most necessary whenever one philosophizes. On the other
hand, the empiricists will tell that Sensation is the most important whenever we philosophize. It s like

In the movie Back to the Future part II, Dock goes to Marty s house and parks his flying car in Marty s
driveway. Just before they leave to head off into the future, Doc rummages through Marty s trash. In
there he finds waded up paper bags, a banana peel, and a partially filled beer can. Doc then inserts the
trash that he finds into the top of the engine component of his flying car. Immediately after doing so,
they hover off into the future. This particular scene in Back to the future basically communicates that a
vehicle such as Docs car, can use organic waste as fuel and that it can do so immediately after placing
trash into its engine component. While it would be extremely convenient and cost effective for society
to be able to walk into their garage, grab some trash and place it into their vehicles as fuel, and be able
to be on the road in real time, the idea is not in fact completely real and is partially science fiction.
There is a scientific process known as gasification a process for converting garbage into fuel and
electricity without incinerating it Bullis (2009). This must take place in order for everything to work.
This process is timely and requires spacious waste management facilities before a usable product is
produced. The first thing to do is to separate the usable organic trash from the non usable waste.
Organic usable trash is considered to be carbon based and will work in converting to fuel. Once all

My First Term As A Declared History Major
This is my second term as a declared History major. Before this, I was a Mathematics major, and
during my time at Umpqua Community College, I worked at both subjects in order to open more
doors in my future. Looking back, I am glad I did this. The reason being is that on Thursday of the
first week of Fall term, October 1, 2015, the UCC shooting occurred. Without hesitation, I drove down
to Roseburg to take care of my girlfriend who was there during the event. Subsequently, I returned to
Roseburg every weekend to spend time with her, my friends, and my family who were impacted by
this event. I sacrificed my co curricular activities so that I could support my friends and family during

By New Year s Eve, I was ready to take on the change in courses. Then the unthinkable happened.
On New Year s Day, three days before the start of Winter term, my grandfather passed away from a
combined heart attack and stroke. It was sudden and I had no idea what to do. It brought back my
depression, and I was on the brink of giving up entirely. Luckily and thankfully, my girlfriend and
family stepped in and pushed me to not give up and to seek counseling at CAPS. There has been a lot
of improvement which is elicited by my high honors completion of Winter term, my near completion
of Spring Term, and the many other things that have occurred since New Year s Day: Obtainment of
the Florence Gradon Ragen and Louis Brooks Ragen Scholarship and the Nicholas J. and Thea Yonker
Scholarship through the College of Liberal Arts, co founding Pearlwood Visions, LLC. with my
girlfriend through Google Startup Weekend: Roseburg, declaring pre education, and establishing two
internships this summer at UCC. Even though there is still residual depression from the events of this
past academic year, I am grateful for discovering that History acts as my antidepressant; for while I sit
in any of my history courses, read a primary source, or am writing a research paper are the only times
that I know I can get past this depression and be successful in my academics and future career.
As mentioned, I have not participated in any activities at OSU, but to accommodate for this, I

An Actor (Writing a Research Paper on Stanislavsky) Prepares Cast your eyes towards Hollywood.

It wasn t until age twenty one when the young Konstantin adopted the name Stanislavsky in order to
keep his theatrical career a secret from his bourgeois family (Merlin). At the time, professional actors
in Russia had the social status equivalent to that of a poor farmer. They had only recently escaped
serfdom and were freshly no longer the property of nobility (Benedetti). For a man of such high birth,
the idea of pursuing a career in theatre was inconceivable; however, the cultural interest and love of
theatrical entertainment of the Alekseyev family only fueled Stanislavsky s pursuits. Sergei
Vladimirovich Alekseyev, Stanislavsky s father, converted multiple buildings on his family s estate
into theatres, making the Alekseyev home Moscow s hub for cultural and artistic life (Benedetti).
Named The Alekseyev Circle, this family owned theatre is where Stanislavsky would make his acting

Osama Bin Laden Influence
In response to growing Western influence in the Middle East, Osama bin Laden formed al Qaeda, a
global militant Sunni Islamist Organization, in 1988. The terrorist activities of this group resulted in
the creation of America s Operation Neptune Spear which successfully led to his capture and death in
2011. Osama bin Laden was born on March 10, 1957 to Mohammed bin Laden and Hamida Ghanem.
His father was a Saudi millionaire, however, his mother was only a slave to the bin Laden family
when Osama was born. In 1962, Saudi Arabia banned all forms of slavery, enabling Osama to become
more part of the bin Laden family. In addition, as more U.S. troops began to occupy countries in the
Middle East, extremists like bin Laden were infuriated and declared a jihad, or holy war, on the United
States. After al Qaeda was formed and initiated a number of terror attacks against Americans,
including the 9/11 acts, the United States launched an operation to eliminate their number one enemy
(PBS, 1).
In short, there are two major events that led to Osama bin Laden s terrorist views: the death of his
father in 1967, when he was only ten years old. This event brought Osama bin Laden closer ... Show

impossible for the United States to be prepared for this attack because it had a very peaceful history

We re All Lying Liars
In we re All Lying Liars, Ulrich Boser, discusses lying .Boser argues that everyone lies from an early
age and beside some benefits, lying is a bad habit. First, he points out that people lie at least once a
day. Second, he states that researchers found out that lying have some benefits. Then, Boser refers to
some researchers, who, try to give some reasons why people usually lie. Later on, the author,
emphasizes on the fact that lying can help to improve ourselves. Finally, he concludes that even
though lying can help to socialize with other, not telling the truth always hurt. A few years ago, I had a
close friend with whom I shared every detail about my life including my engagement. Before my
husband s proposal, I told her to help me informing my family about it; however, she ended up telling
my own life to every one of her friend. Boser was right about how much a small lie can hurt us inspire
of the several advantages of a small lie. From my experience, I agree that not telling the truth is
hurting too much. Although lying can help to progress and ameliorate ourselves, parents must teach
their kids to tell the truth in order to stay together forever. I agree with the author that sometimes lying
can help people to move forward because wishing the fake situation to become real, boost us to work
harder. As the author claims, small embellishments can have positive psychological effects. Even
though lying is usually unacceptable, in some situation we find ourselves forced

Pros And Cons Of Government Assistance In America
For a very long time there s been the debate over government assistance in america, admittedly there
are plenty of pros and cons on either side of the argument, in this case I believe that the pros outweigh
the cons. America should introduce a universal basic income as a replacement for all other
government assistance in an effort to reduce government bureaucracy, improve standard of living,
reduce the wealth gap, contribute to better working conditions and create social capital. Providing a
base income for all americans regardless of previous income would greatly affect the standard of
living in america. Replacing all other government benefits with ten thousand dollars per year for all
american citizens over the age of eighteen years old. Say a person makes forty thousand dollars per
year, they now have an extra ten thousand dollars to add to that, enough to cover daycare or assist in
daycare costs for a single parent, or to allow someone who works three jobs to now be able to to work
two instead. It s no secret that ten thousand more dollars per year would be helpful to anyone, but for
some it could be the difference between living on the street or not. Yes, ten thousand dollars is most
likely not enough for someone to be able to afford their own apartment, house, ect. Even so, living

Since I was a young kid I have wanted to attend the United States Military Academy. I have always
wanted to, and felt a need to serve my country in the military. As I got older I learned about some

country then by becoming an active duty Army Officer.
As I have grown up and met some great influential people they always have some traits in common.
They are all leaders and they are all very intelligent. I believe I have some of the same qualities as

Persuasive Essay On Robotics
Despite being stereotyped as nerdy by many, robotics is a rewarding extracurricular that can be
beneficial to anyone. Robotics is a program centralized around STEM, which stands for science,
technology, engineering, and math. Today, many schools will have a robotics program, most of which
are run by either VEX or FIRST. All of these programs are centralized around a team working together
to build a robot to the best of their ability to score as many points as possible. All the while,
participants also learn teamwork and technical skills that can be applied to the real world. I have been
a part of VEX Robotics Competition for three years, and prior to that participated in FIRST Lego
League for five years. Throughout this essay, I will mainly focus on VEX Robotics Competition, as
that is the program that I am currently a part of. STEM and robotics programs in schools must become
more available and receive more time and attention because they help train students for engineering
fields which are steadily growing, assist students in being accepted into colleges, and transform
lessons in school into practical, real world skills. To begin, engineering fields have shown consistent
growth, so it is important that students are prepared for pursuing these fields. Experience early on with
practical skills in a robotics club setting can give students an edge if they choose to go into
engineering. For this reason, it is important that robotics be available to as many students as

The Importance Of Social Work
A movie that one would watch and not immediately think social work, would be X Men: First Class.
At first glance, it is a simple action movie about mutants with inhuman powers, but upon further
inspection, social work concepts are bound to shine through. One concept in particular that becomes a
crucial plot point in the movie is ethics. Such a concept leads to a connection between the movie and
the ethical principles in social work that can be seen in the characters interactions with the main
character throughout the film. The main character in the film, Charles Xavier, or Professor X, becomes
a type of spiritual teacher for the group of mutants in the film. Xavier acts as somewhat of a social
worker through his efforts to get the group of mutants to learn to control their powers (Donner,
Goodman, Kinberg, Singer Vaughn, 2011). The first social work term demonstrated would be
acceptance. Acceptance is to treat clients in a humane and considerate manner (DuBois Miley, 2014,
p. 120). Xavier first displays his acceptance of the mutants by complementing their inhuman skills.
Whilst working with a mutant named Banshee, Xavier reacts to Banshee s ability to scream at a
frequency high enough to break any glass by exclaiming, What you re doing is incredible! (Donner et
al., 2011). Words like these portray an accepting attitude that is a vital part of ethical social work
practice. Xavier also utilizes the principle of individualization. Individualization is the

Pan s Labyrinth Surrealism
The early Francoist period of Spain s history was filled with violence, discourse, and the beginning of
a new government. Soon after the end of the Spanish Civil War, there was still fighting going on
between the victorious Nationalists and the Republicans. The fantasy film Pan s Labyrinth depicts this
time period of Spain in a surrealist setting as it follows the adventures of a young girl, Ofelia, as she
goes between a dark underground world and the real world. While the film is often surrealist, it also
displays the violent ways of the early Francoist period in the camp of Ofelia s stepfather, the Falangist

Alison In The Miller s Tale
Throughout The Miller s Tale the representation of women is solely shown through the character of
Alison. Her character throughout the text is shown in a very negative and anti feminist light. Women

and what they could provide sexually Or yit for any good yeman to wedde (Chaucer, 2012, p.268).

Alison is consistently described as an animal about to be ravaged, a piggesnye, For any lord to leggen
in his bedde (Chaucer, 2012, p.268) which tells us that animals are unable to control their lust so we
assume Alison is unable to. Further animal references, If she hadde been a mous, And he a cat, he
wolde hire hente (Chaucer, 2012, p.269) and As any wesele hir body gent and small (Chaucer, 2012,
p.267) the metaphors here turn Alison into an object that is meant to be ravaged by the men around
her, rather than a person who makes her own decisions. Alison s character borrows a lot from
misogynistic stereotypes about women, which are seen as liars and cheats. The interesting thing is that
although she is being compared to animals, she is being compared to the animals that are attacked by
predators even though when you usually describe someone as an animal it s usually very powerful and
lustful such a lion and not as a mouse and weasel, almost implying that the representation of women
can be either be seen as powerful or weak, in this case it depicts Alison, and more importantly the

  • 2. Bone Marrow Syndrome In Chernobyl On April 27th, exactly 30 years ago, the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine, played forth as we know it today. Many believe the fault and cause of the accident had many results. (Burlakova, Elena B.) Many elements played a part in this great nuclear disaster that lead to multiple deaths, many long term health effects in humans and wildlife, and ultimately still causing issues to this day. On the afternoon of April 26th, the staffs of the Chernobyl nuclear plant were about to do testing on the fourth unit of the nuclear facility, and ultimately the unit that caused the destruction of the plant. They were testing safety features of certain hardware to see if the system could run for a minute in the catastrophic event of total power failure. (Leatherbarrow) The purpose of the pumps and steam turbine system that was being tested was to keep the reactor having cool water flow to the core continuously. Without a constant water flow to cool the core, the reactor itself would ultimately melt down. The pumps that direct the flow of the cooling water run on the electricity that the plant produced itself; so in a case of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Medical Director For Snohomish County Emergency Medical... Dr. Eric Cooper is the medical director for Snohomish County Emergency Medical Services (SCEMS). SCEMS is made up of numerous Fire Departments and Private Ambulance providers to serve the citizens of the county (E. Cooper, personal communication, May 23, 2016). All of the Fire Department services are on the same instance of Electronic Health Record (EHR). Implementation of the EHR began in 2010, with Advanced Life Support entities. In 2013 the EHR vendor added a feature called Health Data Exchange (HDE) as an option. This feature allows bi directional flow of information from the pre hospital EHR to the hospital EHR. For the first time, pre hospital providers can get outcomes on the patients they treat, and hospitals can have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason that Providence won this award is the fact that they have a single instance of Epic installed system wide. It should be noted that Providence and Swedish, although merged, do operate on two different instances of Epic EHR. In order to transition to a single instance of Epic the cost would be $30 million, compared to a $500,000 interface that connects the two systems (E. Cooper, personal communication, May 23, 2016). Proposal McDonald (1997) points out that health care data is siloed in multiple areas that are inaccessible to others. This kind of management of patient data does not serve the patient well. It is for this reason that SCEMS approached Providence and Swedish hospitals to propose implementation of HDE. Moreover, as stated in the McDonald article a feasible way to integrate data from disparate sources is through the use of interfaces such as the HDE. In addition, a problem that exists in the integration of these two data sources is the fact that the hospital system communicates via the standard HL7 language, while the pre hospital system communicates via XML. Fortunately, the HDE structure accounts for this difference by translating back and forth between the two different languages. With this in mind, SCEMS requested a meeting with members of the Providence and Swedish teams in order to propose implementation of HDE (E. Cooper, personal communication, May 23, ... • 4. First Letter To Corinthians There are many meaningful passages in the Holy Bible, but a passage from the first letter to the Corinthians touched me the most. Your every act should be done with love (1 Corinthians 16:14). Readers must read the first letter to the Corinthians as a whole book before attempting to understand the passage, because apostle Paul, the author of the text, provides readers with a thorough understanding into the life of an early Christian community of the first generation than any other book of the New Testament. Paul may have written more, but there are only two epistles documented in the New Testament with the other two included within the two canonical epistles, which he wrote to the Christian church in the city of Corinth. During the year 56, the community of Corinth was manifesting open factionalism: certain members were distinguishing themselves solely with individual Christian leaders, living publicly in an incestuous union, engaged in legal conflicts in pagan courts of law, participating in religious prostitution, and performing temple sacrifices. The lively pagan culture that Corinth was famous for had crept into the church making it difficult to identify the Christians and non Christians. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul emphasizes that love should bear all things, cover legions of sins, and that all the Corinthians church affairs and meetings should be conducted in peace with mutual affection instead of animosity and arrogance. • 5. Abe Lincoln Battle Of Gettysburg Essay Abe Lincoln and the Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg took place in the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. John Buford led Union troops to Gettysburg and when he arrived him and his men were informed that the Southern troops that they were looking for had just left the town. This was the beginning of one of the bloodiest battles in all of history. From the outside of Gettysburg the Southern General James Pettigrew reported to his superiors that he had visited shops in Gettysburg in order to buy the shoes that his soldiers direly needed. When he was in town he saw the advancement of the Northern Union troops and fed the town as fast as they could. General Henry Heth read this report and did not believe what he saw, so he said that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, General Lee was the leader of the Confederate army. He divided the army into three different divisions. By mid June, all of these divisions were on the move North to the North. During their travel up North, they did have a lot of random battles with Northern troops, however they continued on their way almost steamrolling over all the Northern troops. On June 21, however one of the divisions that was led by General Ewell, entered into Chambersburg Pennsylvania. A few days later, the other two divisions arrived in Pennsylvania. They took food and horses from the farms that scattered around the countryside. One of the Confederate soldiers wrote to his wife explaining that they were doing all of this to pay back these people for some of the damage that they have done us even though we are not doing them half as bad as they have done us. The soldier added, We will have to fight here, and when it comes it will be the biggest on record. The Southern Confederate troops in Pennsylvania were somewhat scattered, however General Lee was not even worried about this. He felt safe, mainly because he believed that their enemy General Hooker s Union army had yet to cross over the Potomac River. Lee, however did not realize one key thing and that was that his scouts were so far away that they could not report to him quickly which had then meant that General Lee still did not even know the truth to what was ... • 7. Characteristics Of Airasia Competitive Strategy Competitive Strategy Based on Porter 5 Forces(1980) diagram to build four prominent business strategy, cost leadership, differentiation which can be combined to build the competitive strategy. Figure 1 Cost leadership is one of the most common business strategies which refer to the organization s ability to produce a product or service at a cost below competitors can achieve between AirAsia and other airlines. However, the implementation of cost leadership strategies requires a consistent focus on driving costs to generate profit margin. Instead of the offering lower cost price, customer also considering the differentiation offered by AirAsia which they are willing to pay at any prices. Choosing the differentiation and characteristics of the products and service recommended or method in which it is delivered and developing organizational capabilities required to achieve the fundamental difference is a big challenge for companies (Mohammad Sunman Sarker. 2013). Presently, tough economy condition =s has enable AirAsia to attract new segment pf customers specially business traveler seeking cost reduction , as rising unemployment and lack of job security may lead customer to avoiding expensive leisure flights (Yasmin Yashodha. 2012). • 8. Rhetoric Of Pericles Funeral Oration Pericles Funeral Oration Analysis Pericles, as we know, was an exceeding leader and statesmen for most of Athen s reign during the 5th century B.C.E. He was an extremely successful man, and well rounded in many aspects of Athenian leadership. He wasn t just a statesman for Athens, he was a persuasive politician, glorified military leader, and filled with boastful patriotism towards Athens. It was common ritual for speeches to be given to the survived families of the fallen after war, but Pericles take on the speech was a little different than the ordinary. Pericles focused greatly on the significance of a democratic government. His goal was to raise the spirits of the fallen soldiers families , and build patriotism in their hearts to get them motivated to fight for their freedom in Athens. Pericles was a very persuasive speaker, and his Funeral Oration speech was indeed successful in its mission: convince the people that the fallen soldiers shouldn t be mourned, but rather raise their patriotism and to follow in the footsteps of the fallen, and to fight for their honor, freedom, and democracy as a whole. Pericles speech was not a lie, but rather a persuasive and manipulative speech to capture the fallen spirits during a tough time of war. The speech wins the people in the crowd over with a sense of pride over Athens. Their democratic republic was a unique government for their time, and Pericles takes advantage of his words by proclaiming, Our constitution does not copy the laws of neighbouring states; we are rather a pattern to others than imitators ourselves. This statement reminds the people of Athens that their community is different than the surrounding nations, and that they should be proud of where they have gotten. A hint of direction comes into play, though, when Pericles goes on to say, If we look to the laws, they afford equal justice to all in their private differences...nor again does poverty bar the way, if a man is able to serve the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity of his condition. Comparing this statement to the laws of the Spartans, it increases even further the sense of patriotism that Pericles is trying to raise within the crowd. With the Spartans government being very ... • 9. Articles Of Confederation Achievements Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was very weak and unable to accommodate the nation after declaring its independence (Schultz, 2010). The Articles of Confederation was a document drafted by the Continental Congress between 1776 and 1777, which defined the colonies power and authority. Although the Articles were ready for ratification the following year, it would not go into effect until 1781 after all thirteen states were in agreeance. Once the Articles were ratified, they made three notable achievements (Schultz, 2010). First, they showcased that the government consisted of laws that limited its authority. Minimizing the power that the government wielded was important to the people because they had just escaped rule from Great Britain. Next, the Articles made it clear that there would be no titles or a class system in the nation, granting equal rights to all qualifying members. Finally, the Articles of Confederation had accomplished a functional way of the organization regarding the new lands obtained in the west. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the Articles required that all states must agree on any bills before becoming law. This is the most significant flaw because each state had their own distinct needs and interests, it would be challenging to pass any bill that would be equally beneficial to all thirteen states. For example, the nation was very much in debt due to the recent war and needed a way to raise funds. Therefore, Congress passed a bill that would have put a 5 percent tax on all imported goods. Now, indigenous people all around the world are struggling to reclaim the lands and rights that were taken away from them through non violent social relations with national governments and large corporations. • 13. Consequences of Urban Sprawl Since the development of cities, urban sprawl has reached unprecedented levels and is expected to continue to increase at an alarming rate. Urban areas are highly modified environments that undergo significant structural changes (fragmentation, degradation and loss of habitat), increased disturbance (noise, light pollution, human activities) and amplified pollution (gases, fine particles, heavy metals. Thus, urban life imposes difficult and restrictive condition that can have detrimental effects on wildlife. Among all the major urban associated factors, one has recently received a lot of attention: Anthropogenic noise. Expanding urbanization had led to a strong increase in the levels of background noise and there is increasing evidence that noise pollution can have a collection of harmful effect on wildlife, especially birds because they considerably rely on acoustic communication. Urban noise is characterized by high amplitude and low spectral frequencies. As a result, urbanization creates a novel acoustic environment in which high noise level can mask songs and others important avian communication signals. To date, most of the work about the impact of chronic noise exposure on wildlife has mainly focused on the masking of avian acoustic signals and the consequences of communication impairment. Because birds use songs mostly to attract mates and to defend their territories masking of these biologically important acoustic signals may have a dramatic impact on their ... Besides being just outright refuted, there are a couple of ways in which the Trinity is misunderstood. These misunderstandings can relate to other religions which a person may be more familiar with, or might believe. God as the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit is a difficult concept to embrace fully but is not much unlike the concept of understanding an omniscient and omnipotent being that exists before during and after time. There are several explanations that help our human brains comprehend the concept and differentiate the Trinity from other religions. Two common religions view the Trinity as three gods such as Paganism or is one God that reveals himself in three different forms or persons such as Monism. An individual with a Pagan view might see the Trinity as three gods. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as separate and different but related gods with the same purpose. This would be a similar view similar a few that of the Greeks with their many different God of the Pantheon. A person looking at the Trinity with a background in something like Hinduism, might see the mentioning of the Trinity and related back to their beliefs or knowledge. Hindu might see the Father as one God while the Son is a manifestation of the father but not a true God. The same could be seen for the Holy Spirit. As a result, people document these events, write stories, or simply express their emotions. In particular, this can be seen in many American movements such as Romanticism in which people believed logic and reason can only get one so far. As time passed these movements became a thing of the past and are seen irrelevant in today s modern age. However, one movement that is still relevant today is the advancement or support of women s rights socially, economically, and politically. For instance, three texts that still tie with Feminism today is April Showers, A Journey, and Fullness of Life. In April Showers, the author illustrates the many difficulties a woman undergoes attempting to support her family by being a writer. Furthermore, in A Journey, it depicts the hardships a woman encounters when she is forced to accept the unknown. Lastly, in the story Fullness of Life, it displays a woman meeting her destined partner in the afterlife, which leads her to realize that what she wanted is not what she needed and as a result, she decides to wait for her husband leaving her destined partner. A few years ago, I had a close friend with whom I shared every detail about my life including my engagement. Before my husband s proposal, I told her to help me informing my family about it; however, she ended up telling my own life to every one of her friend. Boser was right about how much a small lie can hurt us inspire of the several advantages of a small lie. From my experience, I agree that not telling the truth is hurting too much. Although lying can help to progress and ameliorate ourselves, parents must teach their kids to tell the truth in order to stay together forever. I agree with the author that sometimes lying can help people to move forward because wishing the fake situation to become real, boost us to work harder. As the author claims, small embellishments can have positive psychological effects. Even though lying is usually unacceptable, in some situation we find ourselves forced ... • 32. Pros And Cons Of Government Assistance In America For a very long time there s been the debate over government assistance in america, admittedly there are plenty of pros and cons on either side of the argument, in this case I believe that the pros outweigh the cons. America should introduce a universal basic income as a replacement for all other government assistance in an effort to reduce government bureaucracy, improve standard of living, reduce the wealth gap, contribute to better working conditions and create social capital. Providing a base income for all americans regardless of previous income would greatly affect the standard of living in america. Replacing all other government benefits with ten thousand dollars per year for all american citizens over the age of eighteen years old. Say a person makes forty thousand dollars per year, they now have an extra ten thousand dollars to add to that, enough to cover daycare or assist in daycare costs for a single parent, or to allow someone who works three jobs to now be able to to work two instead. It s no secret that ten thousand more dollars per year would be helpful to anyone, but for some it could be the difference between living on the street or not. Yes, ten thousand dollars is most likely not enough for someone to be able to afford their own apartment, house, ect. Even so, living with a roommate is preferable over living on the street. • 34. Persuasive Essay On Robotics Despite being stereotyped as nerdy by many, robotics is a rewarding extracurricular that can be beneficial to anyone. Robotics is a program centralized around STEM, which stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. Today, many schools will have a robotics program, most of which are run by either VEX or FIRST. All of these programs are centralized around a team working together to build a robot to the best of their ability to score as many points as possible. All the while, participants also learn teamwork and technical skills that can be applied to the real world. I have been a part of VEX Robotics Competition for three years, and prior to that participated in FIRST Lego League for five years. Throughout this essay, I will mainly focus on VEX Robotics Competition, as that is the program that I am currently a part of. STEM and robotics programs in schools must become more available and receive more time and attention because they help train students for engineering fields which are steadily growing, assist students in being accepted into colleges, and transform lessons in school into practical, real world skills. To begin, engineering fields have shown consistent growth, so it is important that students are prepared for pursuing these fields. Experience early on with practical skills in a robotics club setting can give students an edge if they choose to go into engineering. For this reason, it is important that robotics be available to as many students as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Importance Of Social Work A movie that one would watch and not immediately think social work, would be X Men: First Class. At first glance, it is a simple action movie about mutants with inhuman powers, but upon further inspection, social work concepts are bound to shine through. One concept in particular that becomes a crucial plot point in the movie is ethics. Such a concept leads to a connection between the movie and the ethical principles in social work that can be seen in the characters interactions with the main character throughout the film. The main character in the film, Charles Xavier, or Professor X, becomes a type of spiritual teacher for the group of mutants in the film. Xavier acts as somewhat of a social worker through his efforts to get the group of mutants to learn to control their powers (Donner, Goodman, Kinberg, Singer Vaughn, 2011). The first social work term demonstrated would be acceptance. Acceptance is to treat clients in a humane and considerate manner (DuBois Miley, 2014, p. 120). Xavier first displays his acceptance of the mutants by complementing their inhuman skills. Whilst working with a mutant named Banshee, Xavier reacts to Banshee s ability to scream at a frequency high enough to break any glass by exclaiming, What you re doing is incredible! (Donner et al., 2011). Words like these portray an accepting attitude that is a vital part of ethical social work practice. Xavier also utilizes the principle of individualization. Individualization is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Alison In The Miller s Tale Throughout The Miller s Tale the representation of women is solely shown through the character of Alison. Her character throughout the text is shown in a very negative and anti feminist light. Women are mainly used and depicted as objects of desire; she is only ever being described physically, for example when he describes the clothes she wears Whit was hir smok, and broaden al bifore (Chaucer, 2012, p.267) and not what s in her mind. It s as if women were only useful for relationships, marriage and what they could provide sexually Or yit for any good yeman to wedde (Chaucer, 2012, p.268). Alison is consistently described as an animal about to be ravaged, a piggesnye, For any lord to leggen in his bedde (Chaucer, 2012, p.268) which tells us that animals are unable to control their lust so we assume Alison is unable to. Further animal references, If she hadde been a mous, And he a cat, he wolde hire hente (Chaucer, 2012, p.269) and As any wesele hir body gent and small (Chaucer, 2012, p.267) the metaphors here turn Alison into an object that is meant to be ravaged by the men around her, rather than a person who makes her own decisions. Alison s character borrows a lot from misogynistic stereotypes about women, which are seen as liars and cheats. The interesting thing is that although she is being compared to animals, she is being compared to the animals that are attacked by predators even though when you usually describe someone as an animal it s usually very powerful and lustful such a lion and not as a mouse and weasel, almost implying that the representation of women can be either be seen as powerful or weak, in this case it depicts Alison, and more importantly the representation of women as a whole to be weak characters which are overpowered by ...
