PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ALTERNATIVE SERVICE CONCEPTS LLC 2002 - 2013
Chief Executive Officer, Nashville
Bob spun off the struggling Willis division, creating Alternative Service Concepts (ASC). Faced
with commitments and service issues in 20 satellite offices and losing $1 million per year, Bob
identified and addressed the issues that were causing the crisis. His team discovered that
managers were slashing prices to avoid customer defections caused by poor service. Bob
negotiated and executed pay-for-performance contracts, which caused positive cash flow.
Having stabilized the company, Bob assembled a team to devise a monthly profitability
dashboard on each client to help management ascertain the profitability and sources of revenue
of each account, as well as the risk of losing customers based on a range of issues.
He then devised new-revenue models with fees based on cost-plus rather than transactional
fees, which were too unpredictable despite extensive modeling. The landmark business model
installed dedicated service units inside middle-market customer facilities, guaranteeing better
financial and customer-service outcomes. As a result, the company quickly grew into a
$17 million firm with $2 million in profits.
2. WILLIS ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES CO. 1987 - 2002
Chief Operating Officer, Nashville
Hired as a quality-control manager to work on catastrophic insurance claims and audit services,
Bob worked to improve the quality of each service center. After Willis Corporation’s leveraged
buy-out, the new owners planned to eliminate any division outside of the core business. During
this crisis, Bob was appointed COO of a struggling division which he successfully turned around
and spun off into a new company, thereby saving Willis $7 million.
