If you are part of society, I think it is safe to make the assumption you are familiar with and have
heard Symphony No. five by Beethoven. Whether it was a theme in movie or part of an
advertisement on TV, it captured your attention and added emotion and excitement to the particular
segment that it coincided with. Total unification and the pervasive use of a single motif combine to
make the Fifth Symphony, which had one of the longest gestation periods of any Beethoven work,
the first in which all movements are shown plainly to be part of a cyclic design. The famous motif

Like many people of this time period Beethoven was affected by the French Revolution, the
enlightenment and romantic periods; in 1789 the French Revolution was raging and people were
dying. The French general Napoleon defeated France's enemies and inspired Beethoven with ideas

Beethoven is perhaps the most famous musician of all time. His influence on later composers was
extremely huge, to the extent where many composers were intimidated by his music. Ludwig van
Beethoven was born in 1770 into a family of musicians. His father and grandfather were both
musicians at the court of Elector in the German town of Bonn. His grandfather was very respected,
but his dad not so much given that he was an alcoholic. At a young age, Beethoven was put in charge
of his family's finances and started a job at the court. He composed music and helped look after the
instrumentation. Around the same time, he began to write music. In 1790, an important visitor
passed through Bonn: this was Franz Joseph Haydn. He was on his way to London for a visit when
he stopped to meet Beethoven and agreed to take him on as a student when he came back from
London to Vienna. In 1792, Beethoven moved to Vienna to study with Hayden. Apparently, it did
not go as planned. Hayden was old fashion and a little overbearing, while Beethoven was rebellious
and headstrong. Beethoven found support among the rich arts who lived in Vienna. Prince
Lichnowsky gave him board and lodging at his place for in return, Beethoven would compose music
and preform at evening parties.
It took Beethoven about three months for him to settle into his new life in Vienna. His lessons with
Hayden lasted for over a year, and were finished one they left London. During his first

Many questions go around about what day Ludwig Van Beethoven was born. Most do not know
and most likely will not ever know. They say that he was born a day or two before he was
baptized on December 17th, 1770. That was the beginning of one of the greatest musicians alive.
Ludwig had two younger brothers that had survived into adulthood. One was named Casper and the
other was named after their father Johann. His mother was a woman who stuck to her morals and
his father was a man who was a court singer, but he was more known for being an alcoholic than a
musician. This is one of the reasons Beethoven was closer with his mother rather than his father.
Also, Beethoven's grandfather was a well–known musician which was "a source of endless pride"
His father, Johann, taught him how to play instruments day in and day out. When March 28th
1778 rolled around, Beethoven performed for the first time in front of a crowd in Cologne. At
that time Beethoven was seven and a half years old, but his father said he was six years old. This
always made Beethoven think he was younger than he actually was. Beethoven's father could
only teach him so much, though, so he went to go be taught by a professional musician named
Gottlob Neefe. Neefe noticed how talented Beethoven was, so he decided to not only teach him
about music but about the works of philosophers as well. As Beethoven grew, he created pieces of
music that became very popular. His first piece, published before the age of twelve, was Nine
Variations of C Minor. After that piece came out, his teacher wrote in a magazine article about
him saying he's to be, "The next Mozart if he keeps his work up." Prince Maximillian Franz, who
was the prince of Austria at the time, knew about Beethoven's music and decided to send him to
Vienna to go meet Mozart in 1787 so he could further his music education. When Beethoven and
Mozart met, Mozart was said to have spoken,"Do not forget his name! It will be spoken often!".
Sadly, whilst Beethoven was in Vienna, he received a letter saying that his mother was dying. She
was the only person Beethoven had a strong relationship with. She passed away on July 17th,

enjoyed reading the likes of Shakespeare and other famous poets. He had many love interests in his
life, but was never able to sustain a long–term relationship. The Immortal Beloved was a passionate
love letter that he wrote to a women. He only referred to her as the "immortal beloved" and did
not use a name. It was said to have been written about Viennese aristocrat Antonie Brentano and
was never sent out, but found in a drawer after his death. Beethoven had reached complete
deafness in the 1810's. At this time he piano playing and conducting were deteriorating. At the
age of 44 he was no longer able to play in public, but insisted on conducting still. Often times the
performances were chaotic and he was hard to comprehend by musicians. He had a custody battle
for his nephew Karl, in which he won. This caused disaster as Beethoven craved attention and
companionship. After 1818, Beethoven conducted some of his greatest works even though he was
completely deaf. Beethoven's music was influenced by Haydn and Mozart although he had his own
unique style. He was one of the greatest composers ever and had to overcome his complete
deafness and suffering to put out these great works. One of Beethoven's famous works was his
Symphony No. 3 (Eroica). It was known as Eroica or "heroic" in Italian. This work was written
