Born in Germany in 1770, Ludwig van Beethoven showed early musical talent but faced an abusive father and increasing deafness. He moved to Vienna in 1792 to study with composers like Haydn and Salieri, and had his public debut in 1795. Though struggling with deafness, from 1803-1812 Beethoven composed masterworks including symphonies, concertos, and the "Eroica" Symphony. He never married but was a prolific and influential composer until his death in 1827 at age 56.
