The document discusses different types of dams:
- Arch dams are usually made of concrete and are curved in shape. Their arch design makes them the second safest dam type.
- Buttress dams use triangular supports called buttresses to push back against water pressure. They are commonly built in North America.
- Embankment dams are made of compacted earth and rock. They have a waterproof core to prevent seepage. These dams provide bulk and strength despite using more material.
- Gravity dams rely on their heavy weight to hold back water like embankment dams. Arch dams are considered the safest type of dam in North America.
Types of bridges include arch, truss, cantilever, cable-stayed, and suspension bridges. Key factors in bridge site selection are a straight river reach, steady non-turbulent flow, narrow channel, suitable high banks, rock or hard soil near the riverbed, and economical approaches without obstacles. The economic span is the length that minimizes overall cost based on materials, labor, and climate. Bridges cause afflux by reducing the natural waterway area around supports. Freeboard is the safety vertical distance between the flood level and main structure.
This document discusses best practices for building microservices architectures without over-engineering it like tech giants. It recommends:
1) Focusing on developer productivity over complex architectures by using simple tools like HTTP, JSON, Docker for microservices development and deployment.
2) Emphasizing continuous integration/deployment to enable rapid iteration. Minimize impact of bugs by resilient software design.
3) Letting developers define service topologies through discovery and routing rather than rigid pre-defined architectures. This allows topologies to change in real-time based on needs.
Bridges allow crossing over obstacles and come in different types. A basic beam or plank bridge will sag under its own weight if too long. Proper design must account for the bridge's dead load (its own weight), live load (weight of users), and wind load. Common modern bridge types include beam, arch, truss, suspension, and cable-stayed bridges. Each type has distinct structural properties and advantages/disadvantages for different uses and spans. Bridges have evolved significantly over history as materials and engineering have advanced.
challanges made for construction of bridge in hilly areasSwapnali Kunjir
This document discusses the challenges of constructing bridges in hilly areas. Key challenges include constructing bridges across deep gorges with large height differences, on rivers with unstable beds, in areas with extreme temperatures or landslides. Proper site selection and bridge type choice are important considering geological and weather conditions. Foundations can be difficult to build in areas with mixed soil types. Management of construction activities, materials, quality, safety, and equipment are also discussed. Common bridge types for hilly areas described include beam, truss, cantilever, arch, tied arch, suspension, and cable-stayed bridges.
The document discusses bridge construction and provides details on bridge types and selection. It begins with an introduction to bridge engineering and the investigation process for bridge sites, including preliminary surveys, site selection factors, and elements of site investigation.
It then covers the major types of bridges based on materials, span arrangement, and structural form - including slab bridges, T-girder bridges, box girder bridges, truss bridges, arch bridges, cantilever bridges, cable-stayed bridges, and suspension bridges. For each type, it provides a brief description and examples.
Finally, it lists the key factors to consider for selecting the appropriate bridge type for a given site, such as geometric conditions, aesthetics, traffic
INTRODUCTION TO PRE ENGINEERED BUILDINGS.pptxsatish sajja
This document provides an introduction and history of pre-engineered buildings (PEBs). It discusses that PEBs are designed using standard sizes, spans and heights to take advantage of mass production. PEBs use steel as the primary material, which is strong, flexible and properties do not change over time. The history outlines how PEBs were developed for efficient construction of warehouses and churches in the 1850s and later widely used for military facilities during WWII. The document also reviews advantages of PEBs, including significantly reduced construction time of 6-8 weeks and lower construction costs compared to traditional methods.
Pre-engineered buildings (PEBs) are constructed using prefabricated steel sections designed based on structural calculations. The sections are manufactured in a factory, transported to the site, and assembled using bolted connections. PEBs originated in the US due to high steel costs, as using prefabricated sections reduced steel usage. PEBs offer benefits like faster construction, lower costs, seismic resistance, and large clear spans, and are used for industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects.

The student learned about construction processes, safety practices, and building materials and was able to see theory applied in practice during the site visit.
A waffle slab is a reinforced concrete slab with a grid pattern on the underside created by concrete ribs running in two perpendicular directions. This provides extra stability and strength, allowing for larger spans than other slab types. Waffle slabs are used in industrial, commercial, and large buildings where large open floor plans are needed. They are constructed either by pouring concrete into molds on-site or using precast sections. The grid pattern also provides space for mechanical systems like HVAC to be placed within the slab thickness.

DEEP LEARNING FOR SMART GRID INTRUSION DETECTION: A HYBRID CNN-LSTM-BASED MODELgerogepatton
As digital technology becomes more deeply embedded in power systems, protecting the communication
networks of Smart Grids (SG) has emerged as a critical concern. Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3)
represents a multi-tiered application layer protocol extensively utilized in Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA)-based smart grids to facilitate real-time data gathering and control functionalities.
Robust Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are necessary for early threat detection and mitigation because
of the interconnection of these networks, which makes them vulnerable to a variety of cyberattacks. To
solve this issue, this paper develops a hybrid Deep Learning (DL) model specifically designed for intrusion
detection in smart grids. The proposed approach is a combination of the Convolutional Neural Network
(CNN) and the Long-Short-Term Memory algorithms (LSTM). We employed a recent intrusion detection
dataset (DNP3), which focuses on unauthorized commands and Denial of Service (DoS) cyberattacks, to
train and test our model. The results of our experiments show that our CNN-LSTM method is much better
at finding smart grid intrusions than other deep learning algorithms used for classification. In addition,
our proposed approach improves accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, achieving a high detection
accuracy rate of 99.50%.

Electric vehicle and photovoltaic advanced roles in enhancing the financial p...IJECEIAES
Climate change's impact on the planet forced the United Nations and governments to promote green energies and electric transportation. The deployments of photovoltaic (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) systems gained stronger momentum due to their numerous advantages over fossil fuel types. The advantages go beyond sustainability to reach financial support and stability. The work in this paper introduces the hybrid system between PV and EV to support industrial and commercial plants. This paper covers the theoretical framework of the proposed hybrid system including the required equation to complete the cost analysis when PV and EV are present. In addition, the proposed design diagram which sets the priorities and requirements of the system is presented. The proposed approach allows setup to advance their power stability, especially during power outages. The presented information supports researchers and plant owners to complete the necessary analysis while promoting the deployment of clean energy. The result of a case study that represents a dairy milk farmer supports the theoretical works and highlights its advanced benefits to existing plants. The short return on investment of the proposed approach supports the paper's novelty approach for the sustainable electrical system. In addition, the proposed system allows for an isolated power setup without the need for a transmission line which enhances the safety of the electrical network
A review on techniques and modelling methodologies used for checking electrom...nooriasukmaningtyas
The proper function of the integrated circuit (IC) in an inhibiting electromagnetic environment has always been a serious concern throughout the decades of revolution in the world of electronics, from disjunct devices to today’s integrated circuit technology, where billions of transistors are combined on a single chip. The automotive industry and smart vehicles in particular, are confronting design issues such as being prone to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Electronic control devices calculate incorrect outputs because of EMI and sensors give misleading values which can prove fatal in case of automotives. In this paper, the authors have non exhaustively tried to review research work concerned with the investigation of EMI in ICs and prediction of this EMI using various modelling methodologies and measurement setups.

Low power architecture of logic gates using adiabatic techniquesnooriasukmaningtyas
The growing significance of portable systems to limit power consumption in ultra-large-scale-integration chips of very high density, has recently led to rapid and inventive progresses in low-power design. The most effective technique is adiabatic logic circuit design in energy-efficient hardware. This paper presents two adiabatic approaches for the design of low power circuits, modified positive feedback adiabatic logic (modified PFAL) and the other is direct current diode based positive feedback adiabatic logic (DC-DB PFAL). Logic gates are the preliminary components in any digital circuit design. By improving the performance of basic gates, one can improvise the whole system performance. In this paper proposed circuit design of the low power architecture of OR/NOR, AND/NAND, and XOR/XNOR gates are presented using the said approaches and their results are analyzed for powerdissipation, delay, power-delay-product and rise time and compared with the other adiabatic techniques along with the conventional complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) designs reported in the literature. It has been found that the designs with DC-DB PFAL technique outperform with the percentage improvement of 65% for NOR gate and 7% for NAND gate and 34% for XNOR gate over the modified PFAL techniques at 10 MHz respectively.

Advanced control scheme of doubly fed induction generator for wind turbine us...IJECEIAES
This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.
