Examples Of Body Language In The Crucible
The Crucible is a film directed by Nicholas Hytner about a group of young girls who, after a night of
defying their societal laws, create tension and havoc within their town by performing witchcraft and
dancing in the woods. The girls scapegoat and lie their way out of death in order to save themselves,
consequentially causing others to be hung for the girl s wrongdoing. The director uses a range of film
techniques to provide the audience with a better understanding of the ideas involved in the film. These
ideas include the danger of hysteria on a society, scapegoating under pressure and its effect on a
community and puritan repression and what that can lead to. Hytner s purpose was to use these film
techniques to illustrate and portray the theme of scapegoating within the film.
The danger of hysteria and how quickly and vastly it affects people is a key idea within the film. Body
language and movement are film techniques used to identify this idea. A specific example of this being
used within the film is when Abigail, a lead protagonist within the film, begins to make false
accusations within a hectic, hysterical court. The girls all tense up and look up to the rafters in search
of a yellow bird about to take flight, the court is then taken outside by hysterical, crying girls flailing
their bodies about and running out to a lake. The use of this body language and movement within the
film shows the directors intended target at the idea of the dangers of hysteria and

Analysis Of The Novel Crime And Punishment
Principles of Response to Life and Hardships Individuals have different ways in responding to
hardships based on the principles they live by. In Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky explores
contrasting ways of response to adversity. In the novel, there are those who don t commit crimes while
facing the hardships of life, like Sonia, Lizaveta, and Mikolka. Those like Raskolnikov, however, try
to change the elements of life that provide challenges by taking drastic measures to modify society
and life: by murdering an opportunist pawnbroker in his case. When reading Crime and Punishment,
one can see that the difference in one s response to suffering depends on whether or not violence is
used. While Raskolnikov uses violence to change his circumstances, other characters respond to the
same challenges of life in a way that does not generate violence. Approach to suffering is strictly
rooted in the contrasting principles that the characters in the novel posses. Sonia, Lizaveta, and
Mikolka s way of life contradicts the principles that Raskolnikov lives by. Raskolnikov, in contrast,
views himself as a Napoleonic figure, which takes his fate in his own hands in the beginning of the
novel. By presenting these two opposing sides, Dostoevsky shows those who step over the laws to
bring change into society and those who don t. Raskolnikov establishes himself as a person who has
new ideas. Crime and Punishment focuses on two opposing sides of people. Since the very beginning

Police Procedural Sub-Genre In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
It is impossible to follow every guideline for a police procedural novel when writing on a true event.
Features considered important to the police procedural sub genre may not be present within the real
life crime, and adding details for the procedural sub genre VIOLATES/TARNISHES the credibility of
the true crime aspects of the novel. Despite the difficulties of blending a true crime and a crime fiction
sub genre, with some compromise on the guidelines of both genres, Capote completed In Cold Blood,
a well balanced novel that describes a true crime event from a police procedural standpoint.
On November 15, 1959, Perry Smith and Dick Hancock committed the brutal quadruple murder of the
Clutter family. The bodies of Herbert Clutter, his wife Bonnie, and their children Nancy and Kenyon,
were discovered scattered throughout their Kansas ranch home the following morning, the same day

He began his investigations by packing up and travelling to Garden City, Kansas with his friend and
fellow author, Harper Lee, who became a valuable asset by becoming friendly with the local people
which, by extension, made Capote more accepted, as well. Though the townspeople were initially
suspicious of him, after a month they began to open up and consent to interviews, with the number of
people willing to be interviewed growing after Hancock and Smith were arrested. Capote also made
sure to do other forms of research on other murderers, murder in general, and the mentality of
criminals to give himself a more informed perspective of Hancock and Smith s actions. There can be
no claiming that Capote did not put full effort into gathering relevant information for In Cold Blood.
He was so devoted to his research that, when the friendly driver who picked up the hitchhiking
Hancock and Smith denied all knowledge of doing so, he travelled to Omaha to confront the man face

Phaedra s Individuality in Tartuffe Essay
I have revealed enough. Spare me the rest. / I die, and my grim secret dies with me. (Racine 193)
Phaedra has a huge secret: she is in love with her stepson, Hippolytus. She has reoccurring thoughts of
suicide, and a desire for this burden to be lifted. Her forbidden passion has a gigantic affect on her
mental capability and her ability to be independent. She does not want anyone to know about her
repugnant desires for Hippolytus and her mental health slowly begins to weaken as she maintains this
information to herself. As we look closer into the life of Phaedra, we find she exhibits a lustful, weak
minded, guilty, gullible, and reliant personality. Phaedra has a very lustful personality. She lusts over

his exile, and my ceaseless cries / Wrested him from a father s loving arms. / I breathed more freely
since I knew him gone. / The days flowed by, untroubled, innocent. / Faithful to Theseus, hiding my
distress. (Racine 195)
This makes Phaedra seem even more weak minded, pulling up the fact that she cannot stand even
being in the same room without fear she might show everyone how she truly feels. Phaedra resolves to
die, being weak minded and sees this as an escape of her current melancholy. Worn down by the guilt
of this passion and the division it creates within her, she resolves to die. (Critchley 18) Phaedra wants
to end this pain and guilt of her loving Hippolytus by killing herself. The only problem is she cannot
die because she is a requirement of Aphrodite s plan to cause pain for Hippolytus. (Lattimore 7)
Phaedra wishes she could be put out of her misery and her mental pain being caused by this
lustfulness. She cannot take this pain much longer. I faint, I fall; my strength abandons me. / My eyes
are dazzled by the daylight s glare, / And my knees, trembling, give beneath my weight. (Racine 191)

Biography of Helen Keller
How would you feel if you were famous at a young age just for overcoming deaf and blindness?
Helen Keller was one of the few people back in her time to become really famous over something she
couldn t help. Helen was famous because of how she was able to make things better for children and
adults with disabilities, and while she did this she had no forms of communication. Helen actually
wasn t deaf and blind; she was born perfectly normal in a small town in Alabama called Tuscumbia on
June 27, 1880. Due to a sickness believed to be Scarlet Fever; Keller lost her ability to see and hear at
the age about nineteen months. In the progressing years of her life Helen became crazy and somewhat
bad. In the beginning period of Helen s talking it had been difficult because she had gotten confused;
soon enough her teacher Anne had taken her to a water pump, put her hand under it, and showed Keller
the association between the running water and the spelling of the word. Helen had went to a blind
school and that is where she met her long time teacher Anne Sullivan. In the year of 1898 Cambridge
School for Young Ladies gained Helen as a student when she was preparing to go to Radcliffe for
college. Keller certainly has seemed to have a tough background, but she ends up pushing through it
and has a great future. Helen s biggest accomplishment is finding ways to get past her lost senses. One
measly year before Keller graduated from Radcliffe she published her book The Story of My Life. In

The Americanization Of Edward Bok And The America I Believe
Since the dawn of American colonization in the early 1600s, the notion of immigrating to America has
long been instilled upon various people as a stimulating opportunity to begin a fresh chapter in their
lives. Even now, this possibility has brought many variations of people to America, culminating a
society that brims with dreams and aspirations to form the diversified nation of today. When speaking
of the current state of immigration, it is easy to conclude that immigration is heavily discussed from
political standpoints. Though this current condition is composed of highly controversial perspectives,
many of the early century viewpoints found in literature genuinely embrace reality, for these writers
were indeed immigrants themselves, thus adding an authoritative standpoint over immigration. The
Americanization of Edward Bok (1921) by Edward Bok and The America I Believe In by Colin
Powell, display the perspectives of two authors, who have lived as immigrants, through their own
personal anecdotes. Both Edward Bok and Colin Powell convey a sincerely grateful tone and develop
the idea of Americanization and the quest for opportunity through the use of connotative diction in
contrast to the Immigration Chart and Political Cartoon which have a downright concrete and
pessimistic tone and supports the idea that immigration exposes various challenges to incoming
immigrants. Throughout majority of the two passages, Edward Bok and Colin Powell both convey
their perspectives

Yal Yale Goal
Growing up, I spent my summers in Delhi, India, the most colorful city I have ever seen. At best,
Delhi was vibrant and cheerful, full of ingenuity, energy, and things to do, smell, and taste. At worst, it
was filthy, noisy, and corrupt: begging children on the street were a daily reminder of the imbalance of
wealth and power. As a very young girl, I felt overwhelmed by India s cultural, social, and economic
diversity. Although I quickly adapted and learned to control my emotions, the feelings from seeing
poverty and discrimination stayed with me. I resolved never to forget the sense that something needed
to change, and I grew up devising and contributing to small changes. While my childhood ideas
involved cooking extra food to share with those in need or volunteering at shelters, my interest in
science has shaped the goals for my career, and in turn, my interest in Yale.
I am interested in Yale because of its philosophy of treating students as adults with specific goals and
passions. Rather than single mindedly competing for certain grades or class rankings, I will be able to

Understanding Key Ideas And Issues
Section 1 Understanding key ideas and issues After viewing this film I understood the importance of
preserving natural resources. In the film, Man of Steel, the idea of preserving, against exploiting
natural resources is dramatized. Clarke s birth world Krypton was driven to the point of destruction
due to the overuse of natural resources. Kryptonians exploited all of the planets natural resources and
the planet couldn t function correctly and the world exploded from the inside. This came after Clarke s
birth father had warned the leaders of Krypton not to harvest Krypton s core, To harvest the core
would be suicide. It accelerates the process of core explosion, depleting our energy reserves . We as
humans, are exploiting close to all of our natural resources without second thought. We chop down
trees for fires, buildings etc. and by doing so we are tampering with our fragile environment,
unbalancing the oxygen to carbon dioxide ratio and making our air polluted. We are also overusing
and exploiting fossil fuels. Fossil fuels consist of oil, coal and gas. Fossil fuels are very important for
humans. We use them every day, of every week, of every year. Fossil fuels are used to fuel cars and
airplanes, power electricity plants, and heat our homes. They are also used to make medicines,
cosmetics, plastics, synthetic fabrics, and lubricants. When you brushed your teeth this morning, you
used a product made from fossil fuels toothpaste. Look at your shoes they are a

Analysis Of Doublespeak By William Lutz
language. Lutz begins the persuasive essay with a sarcastic tone. He distinguishes the use of
doublespeak with quotation marks. He starts off each sentence without the use of doublespeak and
ends with how doublespeak perceives the situation to be rather than the reality. Lutz states, The
Reagan Administration didn t propose any new taxes, just revenue enhancement through new user s
fees. (Lutz line 1 3) He shows how taxes was changed to something different in order to mislead the
public. William Lutz provided various examples to show that doublespeak can sugarcoat different
situations. He then goes on to supply a definition of doublespeak through diction. William Lutz
continues to classify doublespeak as a language and explains how it is used to mislead others. He
states, Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its
real or purported meaning. (Lutz line10 11) This shows that it is at a whole other level that has to be
deciphered to be able to understand and also suggests that can be difficult to capture. Lutz also uses
repetition to give the definition. He states, It is the incongruity between the word and referent,
between seem and be, between the essential function of language... (Lutz line 15 16) This emphasizes
the length of the effect doublespeak can have. Lutz begins to structure his essay into subsections to
further explain doublespeak. The first subsection focuses on How to Spot Doublespeak. He

Anne Bradstreet s To The Memory Of My Dear And Ever...
In 1678, Anne Bradstreet wrote To the Memory of My Dear and Ever Honored Father Thomas Dudley
Esq. Who Deceased, July 31, 1653 and of His Age 77 , following her father s death. Throughout the
poem, Anne gives her readers a brief summary of her father and the relationship they shared. It it very
apparent that Bradstreet loved her father dearly and thought very highly of him. However, this was not
the only father she shared a relationship with. Anne also had a lifetime relationship with her heavenly
Father as well. Bradstreet was a devout woman of the Puritan religion. Puritanism was not only Anne s
religion, but it also served as the foundation on which she would live upon. Anne Bradstreet reconciles
with the death of her father, though her Puritanical views of materialism, righteousness, and

A great Puritan by the name of Thomas Watson once spoke the words, blessedness...does not lie in the
acquisition of worldly things. I suspect Bradstreet would have loved that quote, seeing that she too,
believed that happiness did not lie in possessions. Anne Bradstreet states, Upon the earth he did not
build his nest, / But as a pilgrim, what he had possessed (33 34). Just with those two lines, one can
already catch a glimpse of what kind of man Thomas Dudley was. Bradstreet is saying that her father
knew this was just his temporary home. Thomas Dudley knew that this was not his forever home, just
a stopping point along the way. Bradstreet goes on to say, His thoughts were more sublime, his actions
wise, / Such vanities, he justly did despise (47 48). In these lines, Bradstreet shows how her father
despises vanities, just as she did. Anne greatly infers that Thomas Dudley was not a materialistic man,
instead, he was a very humble man. He was less concerned with the vanities of life, and more
concerned with what God wanted for his

Celia, a Slave Essay
Celia, a Slave is the epitome of the relationship between slaves and their owners and also the slaves
and other whites in the 1850 s. This is based on her interactions with her owner Robert Newsom and
her reactions mainly with the community involved in her court case. These relationships affected more
so the women slaves rather than the men slaves because of their weaker nature as perceived by the
sexual differences of the time period between men and women in general. Slavery is questioned by the
morals of the Northerners and some Southerners though it is common in the South so most
Southerners reinforce the ideas of slavery with their own morals, believing slaves as meaningless
because of their difference. Celia was bought by Robert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though her story was that of defense from her master: she had acted alone, struck her master to stop
his advances, and had not intentionally killed him, Missouri s pre Civil War court system was unable
to protect her claims because she was a slave and they were unwilling to change their beliefs about
slaves and how they should be viewed and treated in society. (as proved previously in the case Dred
Scott vs. Sandford.) These were the most frequent reactions of the Southerners; however a man named
John Jameson took her side and defended her and her actions toward Robert Newsom as acts of
defense against his advances, and claimed she had the right, by law, to use deadly force to protect
herself against rape, regardless of her previous sexual relations with him. Though, because of the
southerners hate of the slaves and their desire to treat them as inferiors, they did not deliver the
evidence necessary to acquit her for her crime. Having lost the trial, Celia s attorneys filed a motion to
request a new trial on October 11th. However, Judge Hall denied the motion on October 13th and
Celia was sentenced to be hung on November 16th. She was given this time before being executed to
birth her child, as law stated that pregnant women could not be executed. This shows that there is a bit
of equality between women when dealing with court systems at this time,

A Good Idea For The Green Party
There is clear evidence that invasive species of plants and animals can cause grave consequences to
native organisms. Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers with
several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced when it
comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I m an environmental
friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with this. I realize that
this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the movement of live
organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control organisms being moved. In
Charles Mann s book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout the world including the
movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One example that Mann provides his
readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The worm species Pheretima and
Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their hungry appetite. These giant
earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size. They leave huge tunnels and
water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time (Mann 495). These worms are
causing the terraces to become porous and sponge like, which should never be terms used for a
terrace. Another example that Mann uses is, the golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) which was

Ethics- Do the Right Thing
1. Spike Lee intended us to conclude that violence is not an answer for any problems. In this case, the
character, Da Mayor, would be a classic example of how problems should have been solved. He could
have intended us to conclude that by resorting to violence in any situation, the consequences that we
would have to face will not be very favourable and it could lead to more problems instead of solving
the current situation. It is always better to nip the problem from the bud, instead of letting it grow and
allowing it to torment everyone. 2. In moral subjectivism context, Mookie did the right thing, as he

People in this neighbourhood were more comfortable within their own comfort zone and each
ethnicity always felt superior to the other, which is a reason for constant friction between them. 5. Yes,
there can be different moral rules for different ethnic and cultural group. Different ethnic and cultural
groups are from different roots and upbringing. Therefore it is natural for each group to have their own
set of rules and belief. The trick is to accept each and other s differences and learn to respect and live
along with it, instead of disrespecting and discriminating. However amidst all these, there can be a
universal moral code among everyone, to allow everybody to have a common ground to mingle with.
6. In this movie, Spike Lee does present some of his characters as stereotypes. For example, Pino in
this movie, is a staunch Italian who dislikes living in the neighbourhood where the majority are
blacks. He cannot bring himself to embrace the blacks and their way of life in the neighbourhood.
Most of his characters are usually stereotypical against other ethnicity in the neighbourhood. However
he does have characters, such as Da Mayor, who embraces and accepts everybody as they are. Spike
Lee could have presented his characters in such a manner to portray to the general public, the reality
of living in a multicultural neighbourhood. He might

Sweatshirts to Sweatshops Essay
1. In the essay Sweatshirts to Sweatshops, many of the universal intellectual standards are violated. To
begin with, the speaker talks about the little girl...working hour after hour...trying not to collapse from
the heat... and that violates the fairness of the argument. He is trying to manipulate the audience by
appealing to their emotional side. This argument is not based in factual evidence, and therefore, could
be dismissed by the audience. There may not be a little girl in this exact situation described, and
therefore, this statement is irrelevant. This could be corrected by leaving the entire story of the little
girl out, or an interview of a child that works in the factory could be conducted giving a first hand look

These workers may not have anywhere better to work and desperately need the money. This violation
could be resolved by interviewing workers about their jobs and doing research to find out the
conditions of other job opportunities in their area. Another point of view is definitely needed in this
argument.
2. At the end of the essay, the speaker gives only a choice between one or the other solution, leaving
out any other options, which is known as a false dilemma. The speaker states, [t]here are two things
we can do to put an end to this exploitation. We can demand that Cromwell obtain its logo
merchandise only from garment companies with socially responsible labor practices, and we an refuse
to wear or purchase any Cromwell clothing until the college switches to an acceptable apparel
supplier. This is a false dilemma because the speaker does not include any other possibilities. This
hurts the essay because the speaker only gives the audience a limited number of options. The speaker
wants the audience to feel that they only have a limited amount of choices, when in reality, they could
just ignore the problem. Emotive language is another fallacy that the speaker uses. Emotive language
is when the speaker tries to appeal to the audience using peer pressure, flattery, pity, and/or fear. The
speaker states, We have a choice: to do what we can in support of global economic justice, or to
become the oppressor. No one wants to be responsible for the

The Sorrows Of Young Werther Analysis
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe s tragic masterpiece The Sorrows of Young Werther explores the mind
of a young artist who fell in love with a woman Charlotte who had already picked someone who was
deserving of her. The novel consisting of letters wrote by the protagonist captures a characteristic of
the very essence of the Romantic movement: Nature. Since in the book, the quality of Werther s love
for Lotte is based in nature and not Enlightenment principles, his moods and emotions are reflected by
the fact that he is an individual thinker and an analysis of different nature or art symbols. The German
literary movement known as Strum und Drang translated into storm and stress is a reaction against the
Enlightenment cult of rationalism and is an important precursor to Romanticism. Unlike the
enlightenment thinkers, they see irrational urges as the defining characteristic of a human being. It
highlights the limits of reason, believing that while a man is capable of knowing the difference
between right or wrong, his emotional nature may compel him to act irrationally. The young Werther
is not a logical person, he is led by his emotions and desires. He prefers feeling over thinking, and
being passionate rather than reasonable. The state of nature appears before governments and the
creation of civic societies. It stresses natural rights and the complete liberty to do whatever humans
desire. Characterized as an individual thinker, the young Werther is unmotivated to conform to the
norms of society. Goethe s smart choice of using the illusion of nature in order to mirror Werther s
state of heart really portrayed for his readers an excellent idea of the many questions about love and
death people experience. Felling empathy towards the character, this method convinced me of his
troubled thoughts. Nature is not simply plants or animals, but symbolizes emotions and inspiration as
well. Werther s first few letters were filled with a natural flavor that confirms his love for nature. He
wrote while the lovely valley teams with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the
impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, [I lie in] the
tall grass by the trickling stream...

Significance of the Toleration Act Essays
Significance of the Toleration Act Religious intolerance was normal practice throughout the Middle
Ages, the Reformation bringing with it much persecution. Christian Anti Semitism fuelled the
religious insecurity prevalent in Europe but by the end of the sixteenth century Poland, the Dutch
Republic and France had reached a state of tolerance , being in contrast to the religious intolerance
still present in England at this time. The passing of the Toleration Act in 1689 appears to have been a
close call, coming as it did during a particularly unstable period, making its conception all the more ...

John Prideaux, Archdeacon of Norwich at the time gives us a example of this grievance, writing in
1691 ...more lay hold of it to separate from all manner of Worship to perfect irreligion than goe to
them; and although the Act allows no such liberty, the people will take it soe. As suggested in the
passage above, the Act was resolutely against the unreligious who chose to go to the alehouse rather
than mass and in fact sect 16 contains a strongly worded condemnation of such behaviour.... Provided
always and it is the true intent and meaning of this Act, That all the laws made and provided for the
frequenting of Divine Service on the Lord s Day....shall still be in Force, and executed against all
persons that offend against the said Laws, except such persons that come to some Congregation or
Assembly of Religious Worship, allowed or permitted by this Act. However, the Archdeacon s
apprehension does not appear to be unfounded as in the years following the Act there was indeed an
upsurge in the publication of heterodox views and a growth of popular irreligion [2]. The Toleration
Act may not have wittingly given rise to a type of Atheism but it seems that the freedom to choose lost
the Anglican Church its power to demand faith, losing it control over social and later

Staying Mentally Fit is Just as Important as Exercise and...
When you think of living healthy the first thing you probably think of is eating healthy and exercise.
That is very true and is extremely important in healthy living, but there is also one factor you probably
didn t think about. That is mental health. Mental health is keeping your mind in shape. I want to talk
about some disorders that coincide with mental instability and how to stay mentally fit.
The first example of mental instability is eating disorders. The main two eating disorders and anorexia
and bulimia. Anorexia is when the person literally starves themselves to death or causing them to lose
a life threatening amount of weight. Anorexia usually occurs in females and causes serious medical
complications such as, slowed heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without treatment depression only gets worse and more frequent. Symptoms of depression involves
some combination of the following symptoms: depressed mood (sadness), poor concentration,
insomnia, fatigue, appetite disturbances, excessive guilt and thoughts of suicide. As many as 8 out of
10,000 teens committed suicide in 2000. Think about that. All of those teens ending their life on earth
because they felt incompetent. Like their lives didn t have a purpose. Like people, even their closest
family members wouldn t even care if they died.Thankfully you can help. Simple things like
compliments on how their skirt is one of a kind or how cool their new shoes are.
On a lighter note I want to talk about ways that you can keep your mind healthy. You can devise a way
to use new words that you learned. (ohh! Vocab word!)You can start playing puzzles like sudoku and
jumbles in the paper. They may sound boring and like a waste of time but they are actually extremely
fun and slightly addicting. Even though most people would say that videogames are a waste of time
they are actually proven to fight alzheimer s. You can also read. I know, sounds boring too. I have a
friend who would say Reading is dumb. Go make your own story. This is true we should make our
own story but reading will inspire us to do so.
So in conclusion. Say something nice, feel good about yourself, and stimulate your mind, body, and
soul and always

Symbolism In King Of The Bingo Game By Ralph Ellison
In the fiction story, King Of The Bingo Game, by Ralph Ellison, tells the story of how the narrator is
racially profiled. It tells the story of an African American in the 1900 s and how they were treated.
One may think that the setting took place at an actual bingo hall, but others may think that the narrator
was in fact in a mental institute. Instead of playing bingo, the narrator is in psychotherapy session. It is
believed that the narrator, through symbolism, is presenting symptoms of a mental illness. Whereas
the narrator is playing bingo, the story symbolizes a psychotherapy session in place at a mental
institute, displaying symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia. Psychotherapy is the treatment by
psychological means for mental disorder. Regarding the mental disorders, the narrator encounters
others that symbolizes such disorders; woman eating peanuts has an eating disorder, the men drinking
wine has alcoholism and the young girls with intense faces have anger disorders. According to the
American Psychological Association, a benefit of psychotherapy sessions involves others from a
variety of mental disorders. He saw the screen disappear... And the man with the microphone and a
uniformed attendant coming on the stage (Ellison 75), symbolizes a psychologist and a nurse coming
on stage to start session. In addition to the stage, Ellison writes he stumbled down the aisle and up the
steps to the stage into a light, emphasizing that the session involves some form of icebreaker activity,
but also unveiling such symptoms. To illustrate the mental institute, the narrator describes
remembering the trapdoor... and find the girl tied to a bed (Ellison 74). Many medical facilities have a
seclusion room where they isolate patients who are violent or self destructive, with medical restraints,
according to Gale Springer from the American Nurse Today. The girl tied to the bed symbolizes the
use of medical restraints and her clothing torn to rags (Ellison 74), suggest that the girl was doing
harm upon herself or to others. One may think the narrator s comment on everything was fixed
(Ellison 75), was about the constant visits to the bingo hall looking the same. In the perspective of a
mental institute, an

Rhetorical Analysis Of Jon Krakauer
Krakauer In the beginning of the second section of the novel uses a narrative and descriptive style.
The point of view is 1st person. An example is, I left my seat and walked to the rear of the airplane.
There is also irony within the novel. An example of Irony is that Jon knew Scott Fischer, and planned
to be going with his company to Everest. At the last minute, there was a change of plans, and Jon
ended up on Hall s team. The ironic this is that Fischer and Hall are big business rivals. Jon Krakauer
has an angry tone after saying, I guess I knew on some level that you might not be coming back, and it
seemed like such a waste. It seemed so fucking stupid and pointless. Krakauer is respectful towards
the guides and the climbers especially when it s his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Krakauer describes how dedicated Linda is and shows a lot of respect for her. Krakauer also describes
how bad his relationship with Linda in a sad tone. For example, he says, Our relationship remained
rocky for two or three years after my failed attempt on the Eiger, but the marriage somehow survived
that rough patch. Krakauer uses symbolism of the ropes and knots that are used during the Mount
Everest climb. The climbers ascend the more difficult parts of the mountain by following ropes
installed ahead of time by guides. These help the climbers ascend the mountain and ensure that the
group stays together and follows the exact same path up the mountain. In addition, clients gains some
peace of mind knowing that someone has climbed the path ahead of them and installed a hands on
map. Krakauer notes that on this climb, the clients are not all attached to the same rope. The rope
symbolizes unity and loyalty, exemplifying the idea that one s life is bound to

The Success Of Any Business
The success of any business can be traced back to management. For this reason, managers need to be
able to adapt to and address the changing needs of not only their customs, but even more importantly,
their employees. Change is always occurring, and the manner in which an employee s needs are
attended to in present day society, is rather different from that of 100 years ago. The development
from the 19th and early 20th century management strategies, to the current management
understanding, was not a change that occurred overnight. It was a gradual movement from the earliest
management philosophy, the Classical Perspective, to the Scientific Management Approach, to today s
Humanistic Perspective. Developed in the 19th century, the Classical Perspective addressed the issue
of maximizing efficiency. Historically, during this time period, a majority of people in the workforce
were immigrants with no previous training or knowledge of the jobs they were set to perform. Thus,
managers were burdened with the task of converting these unskilled workers into employees who
performed their jobs correctly and in a timely manner, despite cultural barriers, in attempt to turn
businesses into efficient operating machines. The problems in industry during this time, such as
managing huge unskilled labor forces in factories, dealing with complex production systems, and
managing an expansive manufacturing operation, were the sole focus of the Classical Perspective.
This perspective did not

Auto Enrolment Analysis
Although there is still adequate time for you to get an appropriate scheme in place by your staging
date, I feel that it is important for me to notify you that any persistent and deliberate non compliance
in respect of auto enrolment pensions can lead to the issuing of penalty notices by the pensions
regulator. The initial fixed penalty charge is £400. Even more severe penalties can be issued where
non compliance continues and in particular in cases where companies fail to pay employee
contributions. Where the number of company employees is between 50 and 249 the prescribed daily
penalty for continual non compliance breaches is £2,500. (Penalty charge details obtained from
www.thepensionregulator.gov.uk).

As a basic illustration, the table below provides you with the cost of one employee earning £25,000 a
year. It is important to note that these additional pension contribution costs will not produce any
additional tax liabilities for firms as employer contributions can be offset against corporation tax and
are not subject to employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs). You can therefore set your
employer pension contribution payments as an expense against company profits and therefore pay less

Mulan And Molana Comparison
Since my research involves comparing Mulan and Moana, establishing the relationship of these two
films is important for my thesis credibility. These films were not randomly chosen for a comparison
and contrast paper. In fact, they were carefully selected because of the relationship that exists between
these films; they come from the same film studio and are constructed with some identical elements.
Additionally, my research is centered on how these films are similar within the overall storytelling
realm and the Disney specific storytelling realm. Before delving into literature that mentions these
films specifically, it is crucial to introduce a theory that accounts for why and how these two films
share similar plot elements. In his book, Seven Basic Plots: Why Do We Tell Stories, Christopher ...

Positive Apsects to Being a Radio Announcer
Radio reaches more than 68% of U.S. consumers ages 12 and older on an average day.
(newsgeneration.com, 2014) I selected a career in radio because I love listening to and being around
music, I love meeting new people, and I love journalism. Radio announcer s present music and news
and some may provide input on topics or interview guests. Some announcers act as emcees or DJ s
during events hosted by the radio station or during other events like at weddings, parties, or clubs.
Announcers announce station programming information, the weather, the time, and commercials.
(BLS.gov, 2014) Radio represents nearly one quarter of the time Americans, Adults ages 18 to 64,
spend with media each day. (newsgeneration.com, 2014) Announcers need to keep up with current
topics and will sometimes have to research topics so that they can talk about them later on their shows.
Radio announcers also make promotional appearances at public or private events such as concerts.
(BLS.gov, 2014) 242 million people listen to the radio each week (newsgeneration.com, 2014) Radio
announcers may also work the studios equipment, air advertisements, and other recorded material. At
many radio stations, announcers do much of the work usually done by editors and broadcast
technicians, such as broadcasting program schedules, commercials, and public service
announcements. (BLS.gov, 2014) With a career in radio one would have a positive work environment.

Daisuke Wakabayashi s article on Apple s market share growth and increase in gross margin brought
to light. Wakabayashi is surprised by Apple s ability to gain market shares while still charging higher
prices than their competitors. Apple claims the success is to due to their latest products (iPhone 6)
luring customers away from the rivals at this latest phone release cycle, more than the normal change
over. In response to the increased revenues, Apple has increased dividend payouts to 11%. In addition,
Apple s share repurchase program increased by $50billion. Even through this massive buy back
program and dividend payouts, Apple s cash pile continues to grow. China is playing a huge part in the
unheard of growth. With more citizens moving up in the social economic ladder, purchases during the
Lunar New Year (a time with a general increased spending) have increased exponential. However, not
all is good overseas for Apple s revenues growth. The dollar is currently stronger than other currency
and has resulted in a 6 point decrease in revenues. Apple

Olympia Dining
I went to visit Olympia Dining,a Greek restaurant, with my brother on Thursday , November 12. We
didn t know how the Greek food was, or what could we order since It was our first time in a Greek
restaurant. This restaurant is located in Davis Blvd. When we arrived, we park in the closest spot of
the restaurant then we walked in. The restaurant was beautiful more beautiful inside than the outside;
The walls were painted with ruins and incomplete columns, and in the top corner it had a building
with an Ionic technique, it was easy to recognize for the shape of the columns. the place were divided

How Enron Was A Company
Enron was a company that was known by many people and corporation not only in the United States
but also around the world. It grew to be one of the largest companies, so as imaged a lot of people
were affected by the fall of the company. Over 210000 employees lost there jobs without even
knowing what was coming to them and what was going on behind the doors by the people who were
running the company. Apart from losing their job, their form of income for their families, they also
lost any money that they had invested in shares of the company and their pension funds, because the
company encouraged their employees to invest their money in its own shares and also closer to the
end they wanted their employees to invest even more money.
Good business decisions are based in financial statements that are prepared by the accounting firms or
accountants within a company. When doing account for any company they all follow a standard called
GAAP (Generally accepted accounting principles), GAAP provides guidelines and rules which
companies use when preparing their financials statements so that all company are on the same page as
one another. When Arthur Anderson accounting were preparing the financial statements for Enron they
were lying about the financial situation that the company was in, in order to make the company look
financial better than they really were. Nobody can really put reasoning behind why they done this but
everyone can make assumptions on what was occurring and who

Saddam Interpretation Essay
Mearsheimer and Walt present a number of contrasting arguments that argue that Saddam s behaviour
is actually not Irrational. They state, the historical record shows that the United States can contain Iraq
effectively even if Saddam has nuclear weapons just as it contained the Soviet Union during the Cold
War . The authors delve into Saddam s dealings and actions in the Iran Iraq War (1980 88) as well as
the Gulf War (1990 91), as well as his administering of chemical weapons. The authors proclaim that
the UN s Saddam Interpretation as irrational , did not make any sense. With respect to the Iran Iraq
War and the Gulf War Saddam was labelled unintentionally suicidal . The authors rebut with the fact
that Iraq had the capability to use WMD s

Neil Shusterman s Unwind
Unwind was a book filled with sass, adventure, and daring escapes. I give it a four point five stars out
of five. The character development was phenomenal and the main female protagonist was great
without being too annoying. But the ending, I feel, was a flop. It was building up to this huge climax
and it just didn t feel that exciting when it happened. Other than the ending being a flop this was a
great book and I feel that more people should read Neil Shusterman s books because his books are
unique from anything else in the YA scene and they will just pull you in from the first sentence. I think
that dystopian has become a very worn out genre in YA literature but this doesn t feel like dystopian it
feels like a great huge pile of awesomeness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harrison Ford is a great actor and he s old enough to fit the bill for the Admiral. Harrison Ford is a
grumpy little cinnamon roll in real life so I think he would do good depicting a fictional grumpy
cinnamon roll. The Admiral s third rule is that, my way is the only way (Shusterman 197), and
Harrison Ford s characters all have that sort of vibe and he plays that role quite well. The Admiral
fought in the civil war and has seen the horrors of battle, in this line it says I fought in the Heartland
War. The scars you so impertinently assumed were transplant scars came from a grenade (Shusterman
222). The Heartland War took place many years before the events in the book take place and Harrison
Ford is around the age of seventy two, so it seems like they d be around the same age.
I also really like Logan Lerman as Connor. Even though they screwed up the Percy Jackson movies, I
still really liked Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson and Connor reminded me of Percy Jackson in
mannerism and in looks. When Connor just randomly says nice socks (Shusterman 101), it reminds
me of something Percy would have done. For me, Percy will forever be Logan Lerman so Connor just
ended up looking like Logan Lerman. Connor is described as having brown eyes on the first page and
Logan Lerman has blue eyes but I think that s a miniscule detail. He could always wear contacts if it
bothers people that

  • 3. Examples Of Body Language In The Crucible The Crucible is a film directed by Nicholas Hytner about a group of young girls who, after a night of defying their societal laws, create tension and havoc within their town by performing witchcraft and dancing in the woods. The girls scapegoat and lie their way out of death in order to save themselves, consequentially causing others to be hung for the girl s wrongdoing. The director uses a range of film techniques to provide the audience with a better understanding of the ideas involved in the film. These ideas include the danger of hysteria on a society, scapegoating under pressure and its effect on a community and puritan repression and what that can lead to. Hytner s purpose was to use these film techniques to illustrate and portray the theme of scapegoating within the film. The danger of hysteria and how quickly and vastly it affects people is a key idea within the film. Body language and movement are film techniques used to identify this idea. A specific example of this being used within the film is when Abigail, a lead protagonist within the film, begins to make false accusations within a hectic, hysterical court. The girls all tense up and look up to the rafters in search of a yellow bird about to take flight, the court is then taken outside by hysterical, crying girls flailing their bodies about and running out to a lake. The use of this body language and movement within the film shows the directors intended target at the idea of the dangers of hysteria and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Novel Crime And Punishment Principles of Response to Life and Hardships Individuals have different ways in responding to hardships based on the principles they live by. In Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky explores contrasting ways of response to adversity. In the novel, there are those who don t commit crimes while facing the hardships of life, like Sonia, Lizaveta, and Mikolka. Those like Raskolnikov, however, try to change the elements of life that provide challenges by taking drastic measures to modify society and life: by murdering an opportunist pawnbroker in his case. When reading Crime and Punishment, one can see that the difference in one s response to suffering depends on whether or not violence is used. While Raskolnikov uses violence to change his circumstances, other characters respond to the same challenges of life in a way that does not generate violence. Approach to suffering is strictly rooted in the contrasting principles that the characters in the novel posses. Sonia, Lizaveta, and Mikolka s way of life contradicts the principles that Raskolnikov lives by. Raskolnikov, in contrast, views himself as a Napoleonic figure, which takes his fate in his own hands in the beginning of the novel. By presenting these two opposing sides, Dostoevsky shows those who step over the laws to bring change into society and those who don t. Raskolnikov establishes himself as a person who has new ideas. Crime and Punishment focuses on two opposing sides of people. Since the very beginning of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Police Procedural Sub-Genre In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood It is impossible to follow every guideline for a police procedural novel when writing on a true event. Features considered important to the police procedural sub genre may not be present within the real life crime, and adding details for the procedural sub genre VIOLATES/TARNISHES the credibility of the true crime aspects of the novel. Despite the difficulties of blending a true crime and a crime fiction sub genre, with some compromise on the guidelines of both genres, Capote completed In Cold Blood, a well balanced novel that describes a true crime event from a police procedural standpoint. On November 15, 1959, Perry Smith and Dick Hancock committed the brutal quadruple murder of the Clutter family. The bodies of Herbert Clutter, his wife Bonnie, and their children Nancy and Kenyon, were discovered scattered throughout their Kansas ranch home the following morning, the same day that a three ... Capote also made sure to do other forms of research on other murderers, murder in general, and the mentality of criminals to give himself a more informed perspective of Hancock and Smith s actions. There can be no claiming that Capote did not put full effort into gathering relevant information for In Cold Blood. He was so devoted to his research that, when the friendly driver who picked up the hitchhiking Hancock and Smith denied all knowledge of doing so, he travelled to Omaha to confront the man face to ... (Racine 193) Phaedra has a huge secret: she is in love with her stepson, Hippolytus. She has reoccurring thoughts of suicide, and a desire for this burden to be lifted. Her forbidden passion has a gigantic affect on her mental capability and her ability to be independent. She does not want anyone to know about her repugnant desires for Hippolytus and her mental health slowly begins to weaken as she maintains this information to herself. Phaedra resolves to die, being weak minded and sees this as an escape of her current melancholy. Worn down by the guilt of this passion and the division it creates within her, she resolves to die. • 7. Biography of Helen Keller How would you feel if you were famous at a young age just for overcoming deaf and blindness? Helen Keller was one of the few people back in her time to become really famous over something she couldn t help. Helen was famous because of how she was able to make things better for children and adults with disabilities, and while she did this she had no forms of communication. Helen actually wasn t deaf and blind; she was born perfectly normal in a small town in Alabama called Tuscumbia on June 27, 1880. Due to a sickness believed to be Scarlet Fever; Keller lost her ability to see and hear at the age about nineteen months. In the progressing years of her life Helen became crazy and somewhat bad. In the beginning period of Helen s talking it had been difficult because she had gotten confused; soon enough her teacher Anne had taken her to a water pump, put her hand under it, and showed Keller the association between the running water and the spelling of the word. Helen had went to a blind school and that is where she met her long time teacher Anne Sullivan. In the year of 1898 Cambridge School for Young Ladies gained Helen as a student when she was preparing to go to Radcliffe for college. Keller certainly has seemed to have a tough background, but she ends up pushing through it and has a great future. Helen s biggest accomplishment is finding ways to get past her lost senses. • 8. The Americanization Of Edward Bok And The America I Believe Since the dawn of American colonization in the early 1600s, the notion of immigrating to America has long been instilled upon various people as a stimulating opportunity to begin a fresh chapter in their lives. Even now, this possibility has brought many variations of people to America, culminating a society that brims with dreams and aspirations to form the diversified nation of today. When speaking of the current state of immigration, it is easy to conclude that immigration is heavily discussed from political standpoints. Though this current condition is composed of highly controversial perspectives, many of the early century viewpoints found in literature genuinely embrace reality, for these writers were indeed immigrants themselves, thus adding an authoritative standpoint over immigration. The Americanization of Edward Bok (1921) by Edward Bok and The America I Believe In by Colin Powell, display the perspectives of two authors, who have lived as immigrants, through their own personal anecdotes. Both Edward Bok and Colin Powell convey a sincerely grateful tone and develop the idea of Americanization and the quest for opportunity through the use of connotative diction in contrast to the Immigration Chart and Political Cartoon which have a downright concrete and pessimistic tone and supports the idea that immigration exposes various challenges to incoming immigrants. Throughout majority of the two passages, Edward Bok and Colin Powell both convey their perspectives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At best, Delhi was vibrant and cheerful, full of ingenuity, energy, and things to do, smell, and taste. At worst, it was filthy, noisy, and corrupt: begging children on the street were a daily reminder of the imbalance of wealth and power. As a very young girl, I felt overwhelmed by India s cultural, social, and economic diversity. Although I quickly adapted and learned to control my emotions, the feelings from seeing poverty and discrimination stayed with me. I resolved never to forget the sense that something needed to change, and I grew up devising and contributing to small changes. While my childhood ideas involved cooking extra food to share with those in need or volunteering at shelters, my interest in science has shaped the goals for my career, and in turn, my interest in Yale. • 10. Understanding Key Ideas And Issues Section 1 Understanding key ideas and issues After viewing this film I understood the importance of preserving natural resources. In the film, Man of Steel, the idea of preserving, against exploiting natural resources is dramatized. Clarke s birth world Krypton was driven to the point of destruction due to the overuse of natural resources. Kryptonians exploited all of the planets natural resources and the planet couldn t function correctly and the world exploded from the inside. This came after Clarke s birth father had warned the leaders of Krypton not to harvest Krypton s core, To harvest the core would be suicide. It accelerates the process of core explosion, depleting our energy reserves . We as humans, are exploiting close to all of our natural resources without second thought. We chop down trees for fires, buildings etc. and by doing so we are tampering with our fragile environment, unbalancing the oxygen to carbon dioxide ratio and making our air polluted. We are also overusing and exploiting fossil fuels. Fossil fuels consist of oil, coal and gas. Fossil fuels are very important for humans. We use them every day, of every week, of every year. Fossil fuels are used to fuel cars and airplanes, power electricity plants, and heat our homes. They are also used to make medicines, cosmetics, plastics, synthetic fabrics, and lubricants. • 12. Analysis Of Doublespeak By William Lutz language. Lutz begins the persuasive essay with a sarcastic tone. He distinguishes the use of doublespeak with quotation marks. He starts off each sentence without the use of doublespeak and ends with how doublespeak perceives the situation to be rather than the reality. Lutz states, The Reagan Administration didn t propose any new taxes, just revenue enhancement through new user s fees. (Lutz line 1 3) He shows how taxes was changed to something different in order to mislead the public. William Lutz provided various examples to show that doublespeak can sugarcoat different situations. He then goes on to supply a definition of doublespeak through diction. William Lutz continues to classify doublespeak as a language and explains how it is used to mislead others. He states, Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its real or purported meaning. (Lutz line10 11) This shows that it is at a whole other level that has to be deciphered to be able to understand and also suggests that can be difficult to capture. Lutz also uses repetition to give the definition. He states, It is the incongruity between the word and referent, between seem and be, between the essential function of language... Who Deceased, July 31, 1653 and of His Age 77 , following her father s death. Throughout the poem, Anne gives her readers a brief summary of her father and the relationship they shared. It it very apparent that Bradstreet loved her father dearly and thought very highly of him. However, this was not the only father she shared a relationship with. Anne also had a lifetime relationship with her heavenly Father as well. Bradstreet was a devout woman of the Puritan religion. Puritanism was not only Anne s religion, but it also served as the foundation on which she would live upon. A great Puritan by the name of Thomas Watson once spoke the words, blessedness...does not lie in the acquisition of worldly things. I suspect Bradstreet would have loved that quote, seeing that she too, believed that happiness did not lie in possessions. Anne Bradstreet states, Upon the earth he did not build his nest, / But as a pilgrim, what he had possessed (33 34). Just with those two lines, one can already catch a glimpse of what kind of man Thomas Dudley was. Bradstreet is saying that her father knew this was just his temporary home. Thomas Dudley knew that this was not his forever home, just a stopping point along the way. Bradstreet goes on to say, His thoughts were more sublime, his actions wise, / Such vanities, he justly did despise (47 48). In these lines, Bradstreet shows how her father despises vanities, just as she did. Anne greatly infers that Thomas Dudley was not a materialistic man, instead, he was a very humble man. • 14. Celia, a Slave Essay Celia, a Slave is the epitome of the relationship between slaves and their owners and also the slaves and other whites in the 1850 s. This is based on her interactions with her owner Robert Newsom and her reactions mainly with the community involved in her court case. These relationships affected more so the women slaves rather than the men slaves because of their weaker nature as perceived by the sexual differences of the time period between men and women in general. Slavery is questioned by the morals of the Northerners and some Southerners though it is common in the South so most Southerners reinforce the ideas of slavery with their own morals, believing slaves as meaningless because of their difference. Though her story was that of defense from her master: she had acted alone, struck her master to stop his advances, and had not intentionally killed him, Missouri s pre Civil War court system was unable to protect her claims because she was a slave and they were unwilling to change their beliefs about slaves and how they should be viewed and treated in society. (as proved previously in the case Dred Scott vs. Sandford.) These were the most frequent reactions of the Southerners; however a man named John Jameson took her side and defended her and her actions toward Robert Newsom as acts of defense against his advances, and claimed she had the right, by law, to use deadly force to protect herself against rape, regardless of her previous sexual relations with him. Though, because of the southerners hate of the slaves and their desire to treat them as inferiors, they did not deliver the evidence necessary to acquit her for her crime. Having lost the trial, Celia s attorneys filed a motion to request a new trial on October 11th. However, Judge Hall denied the motion on October 13th and Celia was sentenced to be hung on November 16th. • 15. A Good Idea For The Green Party There is clear evidence that invasive species of plants and animals can cause grave consequences to native organisms. Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers with several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced when it comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I m an environmental friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with this. I realize that this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the movement of live organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control organisms being moved. In Charles Mann s book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout the world including the movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One example that Mann provides his readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The worm species Pheretima and Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their hungry appetite. These giant earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size. They leave huge tunnels and water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time (Mann 495). In this case, the character, Da Mayor, would be a classic example of how problems should have been solved. He could have intended us to conclude that by resorting to violence in any situation, the consequences that we would have to face will not be very favourable and it could lead to more problems instead of solving the current situation. It is always better to nip the problem from the bud, instead of letting it grow and allowing it to torment everyone. 2. Therefore it is natural for each group to have their own set of rules and belief. The trick is to accept each and other s differences and learn to respect and live along with it, instead of disrespecting and discriminating. However amidst all these, there can be a universal moral code among everyone, to allow everybody to have a common ground to mingle with. 6. He is trying to manipulate the audience by appealing to their emotional side. This argument is not based in factual evidence, and therefore, could be dismissed by the audience. There may not be a little girl in this exact situation described, and therefore, this statement is irrelevant. This could be corrected by leaving the entire story of the little girl out, or an interview of a child that works in the factory could be conducted giving a first hand look into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These workers may not have anywhere better to work and desperately need the money. This violation could be resolved by interviewing workers about their jobs and doing research to find out the conditions of other job opportunities in their area. Another point of view is definitely needed in this argument. 2. At the end of the essay, the speaker gives only a choice between one or the other solution, leaving out any other options, which is known as a false dilemma. The speaker states, [t]here are two things we can do to put an end to this exploitation. We can demand that Cromwell obtain its logo merchandise only from garment companies with socially responsible labor practices, and we an refuse to wear or purchase any Cromwell clothing until the college switches to an acceptable apparel supplier. This is a false dilemma because the speaker does not include any other possibilities. This hurts the essay because the speaker only gives the audience a limited number of options. The speaker wants the audience to feel that they only have a limited amount of choices, when in reality, they could just ignore the problem. Emotive language is another fallacy that the speaker uses. Emotive language is when the speaker tries to appeal to the audience using peer pressure, flattery, pity, and/or fear. The speaker states, We have a choice: to do what we can in support of global economic justice, or to become the oppressor. No one wants to be responsible for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Sorrows Of Young Werther Analysis Johann Wolfgang von Goethe s tragic masterpiece The Sorrows of Young Werther explores the mind of a young artist who fell in love with a woman Charlotte who had already picked someone who was deserving of her. The novel consisting of letters wrote by the protagonist captures a characteristic of the very essence of the Romantic movement: Nature. Since in the book, the quality of Werther s love for Lotte is based in nature and not Enlightenment principles, his moods and emotions are reflected by the fact that he is an individual thinker and an analysis of different nature or art symbols. The German literary movement known as Strum und Drang translated into storm and stress is a reaction against the Enlightenment cult of rationalism and is an important precursor to Romanticism. Unlike the enlightenment thinkers, they see irrational urges as the defining characteristic of a human being. It highlights the limits of reason, believing that while a man is capable of knowing the difference between right or wrong, his emotional nature may compel him to act irrationally. The young Werther is not a logical person, he is led by his emotions and desires. He prefers feeling over thinking, and being passionate rather than reasonable. The state of nature appears before governments and the creation of civic societies. It stresses natural rights and the complete liberty to do whatever humans desire. Characterized as an individual thinker, the young Werther is unmotivated to conform to the norms of society. Goethe s smart choice of using the illusion of nature in order to mirror Werther s state of heart really portrayed for his readers an excellent idea of the many questions about love and death people experience. Felling empathy towards the character, this method convinced me of his troubled thoughts. Nature is not simply plants or animals, but symbolizes emotions and inspiration as well. Werther s first few letters were filled with a natural flavor that confirms his love for nature. He wrote while the lovely valley teams with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, [I lie in] the tall grass by the trickling stream... ... Significance of the Toleration Act Essays Significance of the Toleration Act Religious intolerance was normal practice throughout the Middle Ages, the Reformation bringing with it much persecution. Christian Anti Semitism fuelled the religious insecurity prevalent in Europe but by the end of the sixteenth century Poland, the Dutch Republic and France had reached a state of tolerance , being in contrast to the religious intolerance still present in England at this time. As suggested in the passage above, the Act was resolutely against the unreligious who chose to go to the alehouse rather than mass and in fact sect 16 contains a strongly worded condemnation of such behaviour.... • 24. Symbolism In King Of The Bingo Game By Ralph Ellison In the fiction story, King Of The Bingo Game, by Ralph Ellison, tells the story of how the narrator is racially profiled. It tells the story of an African American in the 1900 s and how they were treated. One may think that the setting took place at an actual bingo hall, but others may think that the narrator was in fact in a mental institute. Instead of playing bingo, the narrator is in psychotherapy session. It is believed that the narrator, through symbolism, is presenting symptoms of a mental illness. Whereas the narrator is playing bingo, the story symbolizes a psychotherapy session in place at a mental institute, displaying symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia. Psychotherapy is the treatment by psychological means for mental disorder. Regarding the mental disorders, the narrator encounters others that symbolizes such disorders; woman eating peanuts has an eating disorder, the men drinking wine has alcoholism and the young girls with intense faces have anger disorders. According to the American Psychological Association, a benefit of psychotherapy sessions involves others from a variety of mental disorders. He saw the screen disappear... And the man with the microphone and a uniformed attendant coming on the stage (Ellison 75), symbolizes a psychologist and a nurse coming on stage to start session. In addition to the stage, Ellison writes he stumbled down the aisle and up the steps to the stage into a light, emphasizing that the session involves some form of icebreaker activity, but also unveiling such symptoms. To illustrate the mental institute, the narrator describes remembering the trapdoor... and find the girl tied to a bed (Ellison 74). Many medical facilities have a seclusion room where they isolate patients who are violent or self destructive, with medical restraints, according to Gale Springer from the American Nurse Today. The girl tied to the bed symbolizes the use of medical restraints and her clothing torn to rags (Ellison 74), suggest that the girl was doing harm upon herself or to others. An example of Irony is that Jon knew Scott Fischer, and planned to be going with his company to Everest. At the last minute, there was a change of plans, and Jon ended up on Hall s team. The ironic this is that Fischer and Hall are big business rivals. • 26. The Success Of Any Business The success of any business can be traced back to management. For this reason, managers need to be able to adapt to and address the changing needs of not only their customs, but even more importantly, their employees. Change is always occurring, and the manner in which an employee s needs are attended to in present day society, is rather different from that of 100 years ago. The development from the 19th and early 20th century management strategies, to the current management understanding, was not a change that occurred overnight. It was a gradual movement from the earliest management philosophy, the Classical Perspective, to the Scientific Management Approach, to today s Humanistic Perspective. Developed in the 19th century, the Classical Perspective addressed the issue of maximizing efficiency. Historically, during this time period, a majority of people in the workforce were immigrants with no previous training or knowledge of the jobs they were set to perform. Thus, managers were burdened with the task of converting these unskilled workers into employees who performed their jobs correctly and in a timely manner, despite cultural barriers, in attempt to turn businesses into efficient operating machines. The problems in industry during this time, such as managing huge unskilled labor forces in factories, dealing with complex production systems, and managing an expansive manufacturing operation, were the sole focus of the Classical Perspective.
