3. Drafting
‘Drafting’ means preparing a preliminary sketch or outline the plan for
action.
Drafting stepwise manner is an essential component for preparation of
phase based CBME time table.
4. Method of Teaching and Learning.
Traditional Method
• In traditional method time table is
same for each week focusing only
the discipline / department day
wise from Monday to Saturday to
be taught as per the allotted hours.
• Traditional teaching is a teacher
centered approach, topics to be
taught chapter wise is decided by
the faculty of that discipline
CBME Timetable
• time table used in CBME requires
meticulous planning. Departments
engaged in teaching & training in a
particular phase need to focus on
the teaching hours allotted as per
the GMER and type of Teaching
i.e.
• Lecture / Large group teaching,
small group teaching / tutorial /
demonstration / practical / clinical.
Focus should also be given on
competencies / sub-competencies,
a student need to acquire from that
discipline.
5. The CBME time table is a detailed plan of activity date wise every week
for that academic year. Emphasis should also be given on alignment and
integration while drafting the time table.
6. Alignment
Alignment implies the teaching of subject matter
that occurs under a particular organ / system /
disease concept of the same phase in the same
time frame.
7. Integration
Integration implies that the concept in a topic / organ system that are
similar; over lapping or reduntant are merged into a single teaching
session in which subject based demarcation are removed. Only a small
portion (not to exceed 20% of the total curriculum) can be integrated.
Integrated topic most preferred will be a case-based discussion in an
appropriate format ensuring elements in the same phase (horizontal
integration) or from other phases (vertical integration).
‘
8. What is the meaning of a time table?
Concept
What is Teaching Schedule?
• A list of the times when particular activities or events will happen.
• A schedule of events that organizes teaching activities throughout the day,
week, term or year.
• Teaching schedule shows exactly what is to be done at a particular time.
• A teaching schedule consists of a list of the complete set of offered
courses, as well as the time and place of each course offered.
9. Need
• The teaching schedule shows exactly what is to be done at a
particular time.
• It directs the attention of the learner one thing at a time.
• Learner’s energy is automatically directed in a particular direction
which prevents wastage of time and energy.
• To inform teachers when and where they teach each course.
• To enable learner to enroll in a subset of courses without schedule
conflicts.
10. Need
Focus should be given on alignment and
integration to avoid duplication / repetition of the
topic there by covering the topic in less time and
providing wholesome knowledge & skill as far as
the particular health problem is concerned.
12. Step 1 – Consider placement of
subjects in each phase as per GMER.

alloted to each subject phase wise in GMER.

16. Step 3- Consider the allotted duration for
the phase in the academic calendar from NMC.
eg. Academic Calendar for Phase I for MBBS, 2022-23 batch.
17. Step 4 – Calculate available teaching hours per day,
per week, per academic phase.
• Time alloted for teaching per day - 7 hours
• In a week teaching is conducted for 6 days.
• Total teaching hours per week - 42 hrs.
• Accordingly, calculate teaching hours available for teaching in each phase as
per duration alloted.
• All holidays, vacation period, examination period must be deducted from
the available teaching hours.
18. l
Step 5- Preparation of master time schedule.
• As per the allotted hours for each subject in a phase allot teaching slots in
weekly time schedule.
• Get it verified from all concerned HODs.
• Prepare monthly teaching schedule.
• Prepare yearly teaching schedule.

Once this is final, copy it for the number of weeks in the phase e.g. 42 times
22. Alignment is done by depts
• Rest in integration, So AIT

slots added.
• Non-aligned topics are

Step 8 – Available for implementation
25. Benchmarks are targets that have to be fulfilled. They cannot be fulfilled in an indefinite period of time, so there are
timetables in benchmarks.
