Kosovo Conflict
The land of Kosovo has been plagued with tension for hundreds of years, being claimed by several
surrounding countries. The two biggest contenders, Albanians in Kosovo and Serbia have been
fighting for the land, which culminated in a full war from 1998 1999. The war brought
international attention to the war crimes committed by both sides, and proved that the two
countries had years to go before coming to a solution. The KosovoLiberation Army (KLA) led by
Kosovo Albanians, and the Serbian militia led by President Slobodan Milošević committed
heinous crimes against their enemies. Crimes range from ethnic cleansing to rape, and destruction
of whole villages. The violence created a serious refugee problem that is still relevant today.... Show

The second story is about a famous Macedonian photographer, Aleksander, in London who is
having an affair with a married British woman, but decides to move back to Macedonia. The
third story is about Aleksander moving back and reuniting with his first love an Albanian woman
named Hana. This movie shows the personal effects of the ethnic conflicts and shows how far the
conflicts reached. The photographer s family does not approve of him seeing Hana because there
is ethnic tension between the Macedonians and Albanians. While the Albanians were taking over
Kosovo, fear spread to neighboring countries with an Albanian population especially western
Macedonia, and in one scene that fear is shown when Aleksander s brother says, Damn Albanians.
They breed like rabbits, and another family member responds, They ll take us over (Manchevski).
Before the Kosovo War, Albanians were setting themselves up to take over and make a greater
Albania (Binder), so this fear was not without merit. Also, Albanian refugees from the war were
moving into neighboring countries, which angered countries that could not support the large
number of people. The feeling of outsiders encroaching on their territory inspires hate and fear. In
the movie everyone can be seen holding a gun even the children because they are always ready to
fight. The perpetuation of violence never stops,

Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting
Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that are not easily
made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip.
The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left
deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is
poured off and a hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society
through its commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass production,
many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes,
flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss
ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip
casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to
experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The
slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results, results
like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non plastic minerals,
deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity
with a minimal amount of water. Less water results in far less shrinkage and greater strength. On

What Is The Role Of Henry Clay In The Great Compromise In...
For so long, Robert Remini has been a significant player the political history. In the analysis of
the critical moment in the United States, Robert Remini paints a vivid picture of Henry Clay.
Clay is brought out as a man who was contradictory. He fought against the slavery, but on the
other hand, he equally owned slaves. He was a common man but unfortunately could not be
elected as the president of the country. Clay was an outstanding man who however was identified
with lack of discipline. His dedication to an idea that the nation was a continuous union of people
was not certain. Robert Remini explores the role of Henry Clay in the molding of the Great
Compromise in 1850 (19). In as much as the 1850 compromise did not prevent the civil... Show

Then the author outlines the situation of politics that cropped up due to the war between
Americans and Mexicans which seemed to be controversial that took place at around 1846. He
then highlights of the crisis that had threatened to bring the union to an end in a scramble of
separation and the civil war. Finally, the author paints vividly esteemed Clay who was
determined to avert the catastrophe with the great and last compromise. The credible and heroic
portrait is what emerges throughout this book. All along, Remini reminds the readers the
advanced age and the illness of Clay that hindered his hard work and lastly made him leave
Washington before completing his task. In Remini s thesis, there a robust, authentic element:
starting with the convention of the constitution someone can argue that the Union was able to
be together because of many compromises made initiated by the leaders who were aware for the
need of a neutral standing position. Remini, however, transfers the point in extreme and
oversimplifies the debate to a point he ignores the six scholarship decades and goes back to the
ham handed group explanation. Robert Remini says of Great Triumvirate which he alludes to the
era s great men who passed away like Henry clay; the nation would lack men who will be devoted
zealously to be of service in the Union and men who possessed candid capabilities in leadership and

My Personal Statement Of One Phone Call
Who would have thought that one phone call could change my whole life? I recall I was in the
kitchen grabbing a snack from the fridge when my phone rang. I remember that before even
hanging up with Ms. Rola, I found all my family around me hugging and congratulating me. I
couldn t believe it at first. After years of hard work, I made it to AUB with a full scholarship to a
major that I always had a passion in. Something to be proud of, right? I was thrilled, but scared at
the same time. I knew that AUB will be a big challenge, a different environment with different
people and a different lifestyle. Nevertheless, I was up for it. I always wanted to become an
AUB student yet it was a burden to afford such prestigious education, knowing that my father is
the only breadwinner of the family. He used to always tell me: Do not worry about the money,
everything will work out eventually , but I knew that he was just comforting me. By the time I got
the call, I was already planning my next year at a public university. I still remember my father s
face the moment he knew about the scholarship as he hugged me and whispered to me that he is
very proud of my achievements.
The first few days at AUB were weird. People here were different! I was lost and I didn t know
anybody here. The whole campus gave me a hard time but I was determined to make it through.
During my sophomore year, I had the chance to be involved in multiple community service
activities. I joined Farah Al Ataa in

Causes And Effects Of PTSD
The death of my father took a big toll on my family and I. We all fell into depression and are
often going in and out of it still. This led me to think about those who suffer in a more egregious
manner and end up experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I can only empathize
to an extent, but I do know there are many causes and effects of PTSD. PTSD makes a big
impact on all who have it; with its causes and effects and it s because of this that those who suffer
from it need help to cope with it. PTSD is a result of going through something traumatic and/or life
changing. The Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs reputed, PTSD is a psychiatric disorder

The stress ridden victims can go through re experiencing the event, doing their best to avoid
anything similar to it, feeling numb and isolated towards loved ones due to the fear brought on
by the impact, and can also be on the alert for more danger to arrive (Nebraska Department of
Veteran s Affairs). They can also go through depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and problems
functioning after a war. (Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs). Staff Sgt. Eric James was
one of the few military members to be dishonorably discharged due to his mental illness. He
went into fits of rage and often drank due to his PTSD. His therapists were a part of this whole
ordeal along with higher ups within the Army because it took less time and money than therapy.
This is not the correct way to help those with PTSD. These Army veterans can t handle what they
have witnessed on their own (Zwerdling). As mentioned with the causes, they are now on the
alert and have stress levels rising when they feel harmed (NHS). Being taken out of the
threatening situation isn t enough to cope with what has happened. Like with any impact in life,
talking and/or working through it helps one s brain to process what has happened as real, not
real; ok or not. While big impacts like this do affect daily lives, small things can be struggled with
as well. A veteran and his wife were worried and discouraged [that] they may not be able to enjoy

Religion Expressed Through Art Essays
Religion through art form provides us with a vision into a realm of heavenly beauty. Religion
provides us with a sense of spirit fulfilment. It is only through worship and devotion that we feel
connected to God. The practice of devotion and worship takes place in churches and cathedrals.
It is these places that help us gain knowledge and a deeper more spiritual meaning of God. The
churches and cathedrals are the very foundation of religious practice and devotion to God in my
opinion. They are known as temples, ceremonial places, and are places of worship to God.
However it is the claim that art museums in the modern period fulfil some of the same functions as
cathedrals and churches have done in the past , which challenges contemporary... Show more

The next thing you must know is the functions that art museums have do take on the role that the
churches and cathedrals once had. Museums enable people to explore collections for inspiration,
learning and enjoyment. They are institutions that collect, safeguard and make accessible artifacts
and specimens, which they hold in trust for society. Art museums, in reference to this definition of
museums, specifically make accessible a body of work to people around the world. It in essence
offers a new stage in which artists can both appreciate and challenge religion.
Art museums of the modern period have the same aesthetic as cathedrals or churches of the past.
The very architecture of museums suggest their character as secular rituals. It was fitting that the
temple façade was for two hundred years the most popular signifier for the public art museum. It
is not just that they give on the impression of temples Carol Duncan suggests, but rather that they
function and work like temples, shrines and cathedrals of the past. Other

degrading its capabilities, manipulating data, or using the device to launch cyber attacks on other
systems. The Stuxnet worm, 3 which was first reported in June 2010 by a security firm in Belarus,
appears to be the first malicious software (malware) designed specifically to attack a particular type
of ICS: one that controls nuclear plants, whether for power or uranium enrichment. The malware
attacks and disrupts a Microsoft Windows based application that is employed by a particular ICS
produced by the German company Siemens. 4 The worm can be spread through an air gapped
network by a removable device, such as a thumb drive, and possibly through computers connected
to the Internet, and it is often capable of remaining hidden from detection. It is difficult to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Federation
3.Federation Model III /Representative Model
There would be no individual membership to the federation, but any qualified person can take
membership with any one of the national level psychology associations. One can hold membership
with more than one association, without having any implication on the voting power. The
federation will be formed by the representatives of the national level psychology associations, which
forms the EC. Voting power within the EC will be decided depending on the strength of each
constituent national association. A similar model exists with the psychological societies of the
Czech Republic (CR). Instead of Federation, the Czech Republic have The Union of Psychologists
Associations (UPA CR) which came into being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, during the first term, the President will be from Association A, the president elect
from Association B, Secretary General from Association C and the treasurer from Association D.
Similarly, the representation to different international psychology associations can also planned in
rotation.
Advantages: 1.There is no need to invoke any change in the existing bylaws of the associations. 2.
The bylaw of the federation can be framed by the representatives of each of the associations with
the approval of the general body of the constitutent associations. 3. Internationally, the number of
representatives to the forums would go up and Indian Psychologists as a group would yield more
power. 4. Since there will be more than one representative at the international forums, the transition
will be smoother..
Disadvantages are as follows: 1.Each association may not take initiative to come together to form a
strong association. 2. Change in the organogram of the associations in the functioning of the
federation may not be appreciated by the office bearers of the associations. 3. The rotation of
representation to international union or societies can be a bone of

Chronic Bronchitis Research Papers
Cause of Bronchitis Bronchitis is the inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes. The
bronchial tubes tubes are responsible for carrying air to the lungs. Acute bronchitis last from one to
three weeks. Chronic bronchitis goes at least three months. According to healthline, Both the
common cold and influenza can lead to acute bronchitis. In rare cases, Bordetella Pertussis, which
causes whooping cough can also cause acute bronchitis. (Healthline). The inflammation occurs as a
result of of an airway infection or environmental trigger such as dust, pollution, fumes. Smoking
irritates the bronchial tubes and causes them to produce excess mucus. According to webmd, every
cigarette damage the cilia which are responsible for brushing out debris, irritants, and excess mucus.

Rawls Theory of Justice
The conventional accounts of Justice normally begin by stating a fundamental rule of Aristotle
Justice is to treat equals equally and unequals unequally, and that unequal treatment should be in
proportion to the inequality. In everyday life though, justice is seen as an attribute of law, while all
laws are not necessarily just. Many great socio political movements of the world have focused from
time to time on unjust laws eg Apartheid laws in South Africa and
Caste laws in India. Impartiality and fairness are understood to be the two aspects of justice. But it
would be misleading to suggest that Justice refers solely to the fair application of a rule. Some
rules, though fairly applied, may produce results repugnant to our ... Show more content on

Rawls assumes that these hypothetical people would be conservative risk takers and in a situation
of uncertainty would opt for the least disadvantageous outcome in any choice presented to them and
they would choose those principles that would maximize the position of the worst off, for just in
case they should be the worst off.
The two principles of justice that such people choose are:
1. Each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a similar
liberty to others. 2. Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both
a) to the greatest benefit of the least advantages
b) attached to offices and positions open to all under conditions of fair equality and opportunity.
These principles are arranged by Rawls in a specific order and are subject to the priority rule, ie
the first principle has to always precede the second and 2a should always come before 2b. Rawls
commitment to equality, his passionate defense of liberty and his acceptance of inequality only
when it brings advantages to the least advantaged are the basic principles of his theory. Thus Rawls
advocates a constitutional democracy as the arrangement for upholding these principles. Although
this theory seems like a foolproof and universal arrangement in favour of justice and

The Lost People Of Civilization Summary
The Lost Peoples of Civilization The topic of the American West has captivated and mystified
people for decades. Tightly interwoven into the American identity and dream, Westward
expansion is often seen with a positive and nearly nostalgic lens. Although we still dream to
incorporate the spirit and values learned from expansion, the civilization the Great West did not
serve each individual equally. While the civilization provides structure necessary for settlement
and community, it also isolates and separates certain peoples. In the West, civilization was
accompanied by ripples that adversely affected both American and Native peoples. Released by
the highly praised John Ford in 1939, Stagecoach represents the people s dominant perception of
the American West. The movie revolves around a diverse group of characters that have boarded
the Overland stagecoach bound for Lordsburg, New Mexico. But along the way, the group must
avoid reservation escapee Geronimo and his band of rogue Native Americans. As with the
Turnerian model, there are two forces constantly in competition with each other: civilization (i.e.
the stagecoach and associates) and savagery (i.e. the Native Americans). While the stagecoach
passengers speak in full sentences and have active conversations, the Geronimo gang is never heard
beyond a few primal grunts. Although the men of the stagecoach possess guns, many of the Native
Americans are still using primitive weapons such as clubs, spears, and bows and

Essay about Maximus and Odysseus
Maximus and Odysseus
While watching the film Gladiator with my girlfriend I realized the striking similarities that heroes
share. However, I always wonder who is more of a hero. The definition or hero is a person noted
for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.
So let us compare the two heroes as the dictionary defines them. In the end I hope to be able to
define who is a greater hero.
Maximus was a great warrior in the Roman legion under Emperor Marcus Aurelius. His first
courageous feat occurs when he defeats the last of the Barbarians of Germaina. Leading his army
along a 12 year campaign he brought it to an end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although they are opposite ends of the spectrum, they both must go from one extreme to the other
to get to the end of their story.
Starting with Odysseus courageous efforts he first defeats the Trojans at the battle of Troy with
the wooden horse. Much like Maximus his story begins with him winning a great war that has
gone on for years. Odysseus must use his intellect more so than his brute strength, such as when
he escapes the Cyclops. Unlike Maximus Odysseus makes the mistake right off the bat of
revealing his name to the Cyclops when he is leaving, thus he cannot return home yet because
he hasn t become a nobody yet. The reoccurring theme between the two that I see is that the must
reach a certain state before the end of their story can take place. Odysseus has to become a plain
man not a war hero, and Maximus must win the crowd over and they need to know who is so he
cannot be slain in the dungeons. In his last great show of strength Odysseus strings a bow and kills
the suitors that were trying to steal his wife from him while he was gone.
Odysseus finally reaches his home in the end and yes becomes that nobody that we so often
mention. His journey home was filled with trials much like Maximus was. Odysseus suffered the
wrath of the gods, cannibals, giants and even had to wrestle Poseidon. Maximus had to fight in the
coliseum against outrageous odds, battling with live tigers nipping at his heels, and ultimately in
the end he

Lord Of The Flies Simon Character Analysis
In the novel, Lord of the flies, written by William Golding illustrates symbolism through the life of
the boys; therefore we have simon s isolation and piggy s intelligence and jacks chaos.
Body 1 simons isolation
Simon, one of the main characters because of who he is and his feelings toward the whole thing.
He becomes isolated which is important because it shows how he feels. Simon is symbolized as
things such as depression and loneliness which is very important, in the book because there is one
point where simon says to the boys on the beach, which means that he thought about it while the
others did not think about it. He thought about the problem and the things that the boys did he
becomes the beast himself. The story states, maybe we are the beast (Golding). This shows that
simon has thought about it and is thinking about it more as he moves forward and ends up putting
on the pig to show everyone how he feels but ends up getting killed. Simon shut people out because
he was torn between doing the right thing and not doing the right thing. He understands that if he
just goes away that he won t have to be torn. Which shows that he would rather step back and think
and look then to just jump to conclusions. Simon is mature for doing what he did.
This is very important because it shows that people that you say you can trust you can t and they
stab you in the back. Simon is a very important person in the book and always will be. He

Government Intervention Within The Market Place
Why does the government feel the need to intervene in the market place especially when the
economy is always so hard to predict? The government intervenes within the market place because
they believe they know what is best for our economy. They attempt to address what is inefficient
within the market place in order to create a more efficient economy. There are many scenarios of
government intervention within the market place. Three great examples of when the government
intervened within the market place was the first income taxand Internal Revenue Act in 1862, the
Specie Resumption Act during the Panic of 1873, and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.
The first example of government intervention in the market place occurred during the American
Civil War. In 1862, the government realized that they would need a bit more revenue coming in to
cover the costs of the Civil War. Because of this, President Abraham Lincolnimplemented a tax on
household income. A three percent tax was placed on incomes within the range of $600 and
$10,000. A five percent tax was placed on incomes more than $10,000. However, as the war kept
dragging on, the government realized that this income tax was not going to be enough to cover the
expenses of the war.
Later in 1862, Congress passed the Internal Revenue Act. This placed a tax on various items.
Things like gunpowder, iron, leather, playing cards, whiskey, and telegrams were taxed as a result
of this act. The Internal Revenue Act also created a

Cost Of Woman
The Cost of Being a Woman The average woman menstruates from around age twelve until about
age fifty (Nelson). This means that for around thirty eight years, between approximately two to
seven days a month, a woman bleeds as her uterus sheds and menstrual blood flows from the
opening in the cervix out of the vagina (Nelson). During those times women are in need of
feminine hygiene products. In the majority of our country women pay sales tax on these necessary
products. In this way women are paying our government for simply being women. These products
are a necessity that women need, just like groceries, which are exempt from sales taxes in the
majority of the United States. Women should not have to pay extra taxes on products that they...

Perry Buck, a republican from Windsor, Colorado, stated in support of a bill that would cut the
tampon tax in Colorado, I m happy if they exempt the male hygiene products, to me, for the

context inferring that removing the sales tax on items such as men s razors and razor blades
would level the field between sales tax placed on products specifically meant for women or men
(Stice). There are two issues with this solution. One being that women will then want the sales
tax removed from their razors and razor blades as well, putting men behind in what seems to be
some sort of government taxation game. This game would then cause a slippery slope of
requests for sales tax cuts on any number of male or female specific products. The second issue
being that in no way are razors an absolute necessity. Razors are a clear want, not a need. It is not

Strengths And Strengths Of An Individual
Introduction
Capitalizing on one s strengths and using a strengths based approach, rather than a weakness
based approach to personal development has been proven to lead to extraordinary leadership.
Focusing on the strengths that one holds as an individual will help one create a better
understanding of the intrinsic motivations one holds, as well as emote the confident and realistic
actions that are needed by leaders. For this reason, I will be going through the process of the
Reflected Best Self exercise, developed by the Ross School of Business at the University of
Michigan. By undertaking this significant exercise, I will be able to immerse myself in my
strengths and find out what I have to offer myself, those close to me, as well as future and
current associates, thereby helping me understand what kind of leader I am at the moment as
well as finding out how I can become the leader I want to become. This in itself will serve as my
best self portrait which will identify who I am at my best as well as being a conduit to
understanding how to further develop my strengths.
Initial Perspective on Strengths
I have always thought of myself as being a very precise person. No matter what it is that I am
doing, whether it be cleaning around the house, or doing my homework, I always take the time
to do it thoroughly. I am able to do this because I develop a routine for everything I do, even if it is
a new experience. I associate this to my need for having everything be orderly

Sleep Apnea Symptoms And Treatment
Finally Get A Good Night s Rest With Sleep Apnea Treatment
If someone you know is snoring loudly most nights, you know how much that can keep you from
getting a good night s rest. What you may not know is that it s doing the same to the person who s
snoring. Snoring is not just about sleeping right, though. When snoring crosses the line into sleep
apnea, the chance of developing several serious health problems increases. For the sake of both the
snorer and the people who have to hear it, you should seek help for sleep apnea.
What Is Sleep Apnea?
Snoring is usually not something you need to worry about. Everyone makes noise in their sleep.
But when the snoring is loud and lasts most of the night, then you might have sleep apnea. In this
condition, your airway becomes partially blocked during sleep by your own throat and tongue.
Your throat muscles relax too much, which causes the airway to begin to collapse. This will either
make it harder to breathe forcing air past it is what causes the snoring noise or it makes your body
think it s being suffocated.
When this happens, your body panics and thinks it s suffocating. You suddenly wake up, but not
quite completely. Instead, you fall back to sleep because your airway is open again. As you fall
asleep, the airway collapses a little, and you have this horrible cycle of sleeping, gasping for air,
and falling back to sleep again. This is officially known as oObstructive sSleep aApnea (OSA).

The Breath Of Other People Killed Them
Throughout the eighteenth century great strides were being made in the medical field regarding
the understanding of disease, biology, and public health. With the contributions of scientists,
doctors, and researchers the overall health of the ever growing population in the eighteenth century
began to improve dramatically. By the early nineteen hundreds, life expectancy had risen to about
55 years. The introduction and understanding of antiseptics, sterilization, and etiology and
discoveries of Pasteur, Lister, and Koch invoked a rise against disease which lead to a rise in life
expectancy. All throughout history humans have had to face disease in all of its many different

One of the greatest breakthroughs in medicine occurred in the late eighteenth with the discovery of
Louis Pasteur and his experiments regarding the growth of bacteria and their ability to travel from
place to place. After countless years of research and analyzation, Pasteur used his findings to
develop pasteurization (Haigh). Pasteurization is a process which involves heating certain liquids to
kill bacteria and prevent fermentation. Pasteur also developed an anthrax vaccine along with a way
to weaken the effects of the rabies virus. Using the work of Pasteur another scientist by the name of
Joseph Lister developed antisepsis, a way of killing disease causing germs. In 1865 before an
operation, Lister cleaned a leg wound with carbolic acid and performed the surgical procedure with
heated instruments, heating the instruments sterilized them (Gieson). The patient in question
would have needed an amputation if it was not for Lister sterilizing medical instruments and the
surgical field. Eventually, Lister incorporated the use of sterilization in all of his surgical
procedures, decreasing the amount of postoperative mortality. The use of antiseptics did not just
reduce postoperative mortality it also helped out in the treatment of wounds and making childbirth
a less risky process for both women and their children.
Another scientist that lead to great reform in the medical community, science, and public health

Did Benjamin Franklin Discover Electricity
Since electricity is a natural force it didn t have to be invented. It did have to be discovered and
understood. Most people give credit to Benjamin Franklin for discovering electricity from his
experiment when storm clouds transferred to the kite and electricity flowed down the string and
gave him a shock. He s lucky that he didn t get hurt, but he didn t mind the shock since it proved
his idea. But was Benjamin Franklin really the first person to discover electricity? Maybe not! At the
turn of the 17th century, English scientist William Gilbert established the science underlying the
study of electricity and magnetism. Inspired by Gilbert s work, another Englishman, Sir Thomas
Browne, made further investigations and wrote books about his

Examples Of Prejudice In Frankenstein
Prejudice is one of the very core and innate skills animals develop to have comprehension of
danger to evade it. Despite this, humans, which are indefinitely animals, are capable of cognitive
thought and essentially capable to circumvent the idea of prejudism. Some of us avoid being
prejudiced daily through compassion for others. It s not commonly known that this simple gesture
may ripple across the hearts many people and fundamentally change them for the better. In the story
of Frakenstein by Mary Shelley, there are many examples of prejudiceoccurring and essentially
affecting the main characters negatively. An example of this would be when Victor meets the
monster on a mountain and curses him, saying do you dare approach me? And do not you fear...

In the next chapter, Frankenstein explains the injustice he is faced with as prejudice from
humans is thrown his way. It was when he was saw an old man sitting near a fire who when
perceived him, shrieked loudly, and quitted the hut, and ran across the fields... (Shelley 44). In the
midst of his isolation he becomes confused and angry, later starved for the attention and love that
a family may provide for him. Soon after, the monster discovers his appearance in the pool and
even then commits the crime on himself. He was terrified when he viewed himself in a transparent
pool (Shelley 48). Despite his prejudice against himself, he overcomes this and continues to crave
the attention not yet given to him. After he burns the cottage, the monster, who still has good in
him despite the prejudices, saves a girl who is almost drowning. After saving the girl, he was shot.
He had saved a human being from destruction, and as a recompense (he) writhed under the

A Day For A Hospital Volunteer
The skateboard flew from underneath her as she slammed down onto the concrete, her
belongings scattering everywhere around her. As I picked up her belongings to return to her, I
noticed she had landed on her back and was bleeding from her head. Everyone gathered around
us. An assistant teacher tried to help her up when I exclaimed, Stop! You re never supposed to
move someone with a head wound. Two others brought her water to help her feel better, but I
denied their suggestion, informing them that she shouldn t have any water or food in case she
needs to have a procedure at the hospital. I wouldn t let anyone near this girl until the paramedics
arrived. I held her hands in an attempt to comfort her while we waited. It was in those moments
that I found myself grateful for everything I had learned as a hospital volunteer, while
simultaneously wishing I could help the girl even more. While I had all the right knowledge to
prevent more harm from coming to this stranger who fell off her skateboard, I was unable to

An Reflection Based On The Ideal Of Worship As Empowerment
Worship in the African American Expression _ Worship as Empowerment
This reflection based on the ideal of Worship as Empowerment. We shall explore the contemporary
side of African American Christian adoration. Which, begins with the religious heritage the African
slaves transported with them on their journey to the New World. Next, let us investigate the
religious studies of African American worship, with a focus on its characteristics, empowerment,
and elements.
Heritage of African AmericanReligious
The Africans brought immeasurable religious beliefs and practices to America. Their beliefs
included a superior, compassionate God, which generated the universe and was its definitive
Provider. The Devine intervention of religious philosophies and practices began for the African
prior to their capture and survival, of the sea journey, embarking of slave ships from West Africa to
the West Indies, and the consequences of slavery. The Africans incline to view existence
holistically; the nonspiritual and the holy are mutually undivided realities that exist in aggressive
tension but interconnected occurrences. Slaves embraced this understanding of life, resulting in
worship with no constraint to place nor time.
Some scholars such as E. Franklin Frazier, contends that slavery in the United States expunged all
the religious traditions of the slaves. Conversely, others, including Melville Herskovits, which
challenges residuals, existences, and Africanisms, are still

Essay on Nibco s Big Bang
NIBCO s Big Bang : SAP Implementation In 1994, after a significant strategic planning effort
took place, NIBCO Inc., decided to implement a plan to, Go Live with a new SAP program.
(Brown, Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin amp; Perkins. 2012) The reasons behind NIBCO s decision to
implement and ERP System are those that are familiar to other companies who have made the same
decision. One of the key conclusions from the strategic planning that led to the ERP implementation
was that the organization could not prosper with its current information systems. (Brown, Dehayes,

In the case of NIBCO, it was not beneficial to their staff to put a rush on implementing the new
SAP program because this rush made it hard on employees and their families because the
employee had to work harder and longer. Having this type of work environment on a daily basis
could definitely lead to stress at home. The Boston Consulting group (BCG) was brought in to
help the company develop a strategic information systems plan to meet its new business
objectives. The fact that they were recommending a three to five year phased ERP implementation
system was not the best approach because it would take too long to implement. (Brown, Dehayes,
Hoffer, Martin amp; Perkins. 2012) Another con in the implementation plan was the fact that
NIBCO would have to commit a significant portion of its resources in order to quickly put in
place the systems to execute the new supply chain and customer facing strategies. (Brown,
Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin amp; Perkins. 2012) In implement that SAP program, it seemed as if it
would have benefited NIBCO better if the management consultants would have known more about
ERP and or SAP so it would not be difficult to apply their principles. (Brown, Dehayes, Hoffer,

The Cold War ( 1945-1989 )
The Cold War (1945 1989) was essentially a period in which fear ran rampant. Everyone in
America, from the young children to the President, was afraid. People were afraid because they
believed their freedom and security was being threatened by communist spies. They were afraid
that communism would take over the world and wipe out democracy. They were afraid that a
nuclear attack would occur and render them and the American economy helpless. In the midst of all
their fear, President Dwight D. Eisenhowerwas elected and managed to allay their fears by
implementing new policies and expanding FDR s New Deal, which was instrumental in ending the
Great Depression. During the Cold War, people all over the world were in a constant state of fear:
...the world is suffering from a multiplicity of fears. We fear the men in the Kremlin, we fear
what they will do to our friends around them; we are fearing what unwise investigators will do to
us here at home as they try to combat subversion or bribery or deceit within. We fear depression;
we fear the loss of jobs (Document A). In this document, President Eisenhower, while speaking at a
press conference, acknowledges the fears that are affecting the American people and the people
around the world. In doing so, he is showing that he is aware of the situation that the people are
enduring, as well as warning them about the consequences of acting solely out of fear: All of these,

Story Of My Body Short Story
People will judge others solely based on their physical appearances. In the short story, The Story
of my body, the author, Judith Ortiz Cofer comes to relations with this. She describes how she
was victim of judgment because she was a kid whom looked different than most American kids.
Ortiz Cofer tried to change everything about who she really is just to get by for the day without
being judged. She was labled different, all she ever wanted to do was to be like everyone else. This
eventually led to her being depressed. Within the story, Oritz Cofer describes how terrible she
was treated due to her Puerto Rican heritage and skin color, and how she would never be able to
fit in. Minorities of different complexions get ridiculed and judged for their skin color by many
people every day. In this short story, Ortiz Cofer stated, I was born a white girl in Puerto Ricobut
became a brown girl when I came to live in the United States (Ortiz Cofer 393). This is the first
sentence in the story and it s showing how Cofer was right from the gecko being shunned for
having a different skin complexion. Because her skin color was too pale compared to others, in
Puerto Rico she was being called blanca or gringa. She thought she was a black sheep in her own
home town in Puerto Rico. She assumed her racial problems would end then, but in the U.S
instead of her skin presumably being too light colored, her skin was then considered too dark
colored. Her first racial prejudice racismoccurred when she went to a local grocery store owned by
3 Italian brothers to buy somethings for her mother, which she enjoyed the journey to and back
from the store, in her new hometown, Paterson, New Jersey According to Ortiz Cofer, the mean
brother, which was the meat butcherindicated her as being colored. Ortiz Cofer was surprised with
his comment, not being familiar to this slur, she then suddenly felt saddened. She then felt out of
place again, just like she was in Puerto Rico. Another time of racial racism that occurred in the
supermarket was when she was playing with the Susie dolls hair, and she wanted it for Christmas
this year. The butcher caught a glimpse of the little girl playing with this Susie doll and came up to

Schema, Assimilation, And Accommodation
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the application of 3 key cognitive terms, Schema,
Assimilation, and Accommodation, to the author s experience of military medical training.
First, the author will briefly explain each term. Next, the author will describe how these terms
can be experienced with military medical training as an instructor. A schema is a state of
understanding to which our beliefs are formed and a framework is established. This framework
is a direct template of how we see everything in the world. When we are learning about a dog we
take its traits and form a schema. Those traits are as such: ears, four legs, and licks. Dale Doty

Analyzing Winckler s Family Guy
The analysis of the first episode of Family Guy is important in that, as Winckler puts it, the pilot
of any series is representative of the whole program (44). The general atmosphere, the characters
introduced, and a few catchphrases set the tone of the sitcom. Some cutaway gags appear, cultural
references are made and a few borderline jokes are told, thus categorizing the show as an adult
series. The pilot truly embodies these characteristics that will remain the hallmarks of the show. In
the case of Family Guy, the airing time also played a key role in the success of the sitcom, as the
pilot was first broadcast right after Super Bowl XXXIII. The plot was highly inspired by

The first cutaway takes place at church, where the priest talks about the story of Job. The
French version inexplicably calls Job Joe , even though his story and other Bible references are
well known in French culture. God is seen being embarrassed by the story, a gag that works in
both languages quite well. When the priest tells Peter that the communion wine is indeed the
blood of the Christ, Peter says that Jesus must have been wasted 24 hours a day ; the adaptors
changed the sentence, possibly out of fear of offending viewers, to On peut me faire des

does surprisingly not emphasize much Peter s alcoholism. In the next memory, Peter is seen eating
some buttered rum ice cream. In French, the ice cream flavor is changed to rhum raisin , a different
one yet equivalent in alcoholic effect. In the final cutaway, the family is seen watching Philadelphia
at the movie theater. After a while, Peter recognizes Tom Hanks from the comedy Big and thus
laughs at everything the actor says, including his confessing that he has AIDS. The joke

Hector Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique
Review: Symphonie Fantastique
Symphonie Fantastique is the first full musical outpouring of romanticism composer, Hector
Berlioz. Hector Berlioz is a French composer, a microcosm of the romantic era. Symphony
Fantastique is a quintessential example of romantic programmatic music. It is a novel, unlike
poetry. It is free of structural form; based on Berlioz being under the influence and remembering of
an unattainable woman. There are five movements; his first tempers his depression, his love and
jealousy which then rage to religious consolation. The second movement is about his encounter
with her at ball. The third movement consists of him seeking peace while wandering in the
countryside only to have her disrupt his peace.
There is a slow introduction; you get a sense of longing in the music suggesting that Berlioz is
feeling sad before he saw his lady friend. The symphony plays a slow introduction in a classical
sonata style. The muted strings play a sort of veiled tune and it fits Berlioz s romantic spirit. The
orchestra gives off a dreamlike condition and the melody provides a sense of loneliness, and
despair, a description of how Berlioz feels. The key it is being played in is C minor.

ascending and descending and the tempo increases. IdГЁe Fixe is incorporated as soon as
Berlioz sees the woman again and then it slowly fades away because the waltz takes over as she
disappears into the crowd. The music becomes livelier. At the end there is a whirling rush and the
movement ends because cause Berlioz is left alone

Sex Work And Sex Workers
Sex workers attributions and systematic play in society have been explored throughout several
centuries of global narration. Sex workers have always been an entity throughout history, seen
as both symbols of beauty as well as patrons of Satan. The sex worker is not stagnant to one
specific gender, but typically has been demonstrated as a female with little identification or
recognition in the within modern day. Throughout the course of this semester we have explored
examples of how sex work and sex workers are documented within different cultures; along with
the western perspective of sex in relation to their country and their global position. The western
perspective of sex work and the perception of sex work in other nations have both parallels and
opposing ideology of this type of labor. This conflicting philosophy towards sex work has caused
internal and external conflict in certain countries. Yet, today it is clear how western influence has
inserted itself into many cultures. The traditional, political, social and religious beliefs of countries
are being permeated with western philosophy. This is and has created a divide amongst the native
people of these nations; creating a clash between traditional and western ideology. The division of
western ideology and traditional belief is particularly evident within Southern India, specifically
focusing on sex workers. Sex workers in Southern India known as Devadasihave been the center of

In We the People and Others, Benjamin Bernard Ringer describes John S. Furnivall s early use
of plural society The relations between the whites and each of the non white groups were
crystallized and stabilized even in the colonial days into a structure akin to what Furnivall labeled
a plural society in his study of tropical dependencies (Ringer) He then proceeds to describe how
this type of plural society is related to slavery and the constitution excluded non white from the
said people s domain of the constitution, the black and native Americans continued to be treated as
the conquered or property. Also, The structure of relations between the whites and each of the other
races continued in the colonist model of a plural society (Ringer). Through Ringer s description,
we can see the initial type of plural society only had the sense of coexistence but had no regards for
equality or rather purposefully incorporated the inequality between the different

Personal Narrative-Some Advice To A Band
Hello Mrs. Vera, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to deal with being
so nervous about presenting tonight. Usually, I have a rubber band on my wrist to play with
and flick, but I can not find one anywhere and the last time I used the flicking of a rubber band to
distract me from the anxious feeling, I made a pretty nasty red mark on my wrist. I just wanted
to know if you had any advice on what I could do to distract myself while presenting or to prepare
myself. Back story: Growing up I always had that thought in my mind that someone was coming to
get me. I could never be left alone when I got to that age, I could babysit, but that gave me the
excuse of what that strange noise was that I heard. I still can not stay home

The zoo, as an institution, has changed and evolved over thousands of years of human history.
And while zoological gardens have improved immensely, and now appear to have a greater
purpose than its predecessors, it has always, and still is, generating an active debate over its
existence. The zoo can be looked at from several different angles. The zooholds itself as a
conservation community, research oriented for captive breeding, and an educational center for
young minds. All the while working in the entertainment industry and running their facilities like a

Interval Walking Benefits
Walking is a proven exercise that carries a wealth of benefits. However, if you want to up the
ante a little bit and gain more benefits from your walking regimen, you can do interval walking.
This is a type of walking exercise where you walk at a steady pace and then like interval training,
do short bursts of aerobic activity combined with periods of rest and recovery.
For example, if you are planning to do brisk walking for 30 minutes, you can speed up the pace
by jogging for about two to three minutes every five minute intervals. If you are on the treadmill,
do the same thing by breaking into a run or getting off the equipment and doing jumping jacks. The
same thing can be done when you are power walking two minutes of slow jogging every five
minutes. You can adjust the time intervals depending on your fitness... Show more content on

You will definitely lose weight faster if you break out of your plateau by modifying your walking
workouts this way.
Another benefit if you interval walk is increased stamina and endurance due to a strengthened
cardiovascular system. Regular walking, by itself, already reduces your risk of high blood
pressure, type 2 diabetes and heart attack. It lowers your cholesterol and blood sugar levels and
protects you from kidney diseases and the development of cancers. When you interval walk, you
enhance your cardiovascular capacity and as a result are able to reap these benefits even if you
only do the exercise in a much shorter period than what your regular walking regimen would
actually take.
Since a little high impact routine is included in interval walking, make sure that you consult with
your doctor before adding this to your workout repertoire if you have a heart or some other
medical condition. Also, wear comfortable clothing and well fitting shoes before you go out to
walk. Don t forget to bring a bottle of water with you as

Why Is Oprah Winfrey A Good Role Model
What makes a person a great role model? Does it come with age? Maybe, it comes with character.
Role models are supposed to set an example for others to follow. I consider Oprah Winfrey a role
model because she is very hardworking, humble, and giving.
One reason why I consider Oprah a role model is because of how hardworking she is. For example,
how she rose from poverty to great prosperity. While she used to be poor, she is now a
billionaire. Also, how she continues to persevere through every task. No matter how difficult it
is, she always finds a way to achieve her goal. Especially how she jumps over any hurdles that are
in her way, overlooking problems that most people use as a crutch. In other words, Oprah is a
leader and role model

Benefits Of Being An American Essay
America, a place where you make your own life choice In America, unlike some countries, they
have the right to make their own choices and with this choice they can follow their dreams. The
definition of being an American generally means that one either lives or was born in the country.
However, actually being an American goes far beyond that of the general definition. Someone can
be considered an American because of the location they live or where they were born. Though
that may be true, there are many other things that better define an American. The freedom of
choice, the chance to create a better life, embracing and accepting different cultures, and the want
to defend peace and freedom better explains what it means to be an American. One aspect of
being an American is our freedom of choice. The image of the western expansion shows an
example of freedom of choice because the American s in the picture had the choice to move to the
west to expand and they did (John Gast).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

different cultures can be due to our similarity, They came to us speaking many tongues but a single

Roosevelt said is accepting them as they are and still considering them American (Roosevelt 10).

The Disappearance Of Amelia Earhart
The Disappearance of Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart left quite an impression on the world. From being the first woman to fly across
the Atlantic to even setting a speed record of 181 miles per hour, Earhart was a figure to look up
to. When she disappeared, she was attempting to become the first person to fly around the world.
Her disappearance has always been a mystery and it will continue to be one for as long as we
live. However, new evidence has brought up the suggestion that maybe she crashed on a deserted
island and was stranded before she later on died. Some people don t believe this and they think
that she was secretly a spy for the U.S. and was captured and held hostage by Japanese soldiers.
Some people even think that she was on a suicide mission. Until researchers find evidence that
proves what really happened, her disappearance will always be a mystery. Amelia Earhartachieved
great things throughout her life. One of her famous quotes is Women must try to do things men
have tried. When they fail, their future must be a challenge to others. (Amelia Earhart) Even
when she failed, she proved that woman can be just as good as men. She accomplished so much
in the time she was here. She did things like becoming the first woman to fly a solo round trip
flight across the U.S. in 1928, and even set the woman s speed record of 181 miles per hour in
1930. She also become the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932 and continued

How To Write A Book Report On To Kill A Mockingbird
For this article, I have read the book To Kill a Mockingbird , written by Harper Lee and published
1960. It is a book about a girl growing up in the south in the 1930 s. Overall I can see why the book
has been so highly appraised. Like many, I enjoyed reading from the innocence of eight year old
Scout Finch. The reveal of Boo Radley near to the end of the book satisfied my curiosity.
Although most of the book was pleasing to me, I disliked seeing all of the injustice coming from
racism and prejudice directed toward people of color and families of the lower class. However,
nothing was left to be desired at the end of the noveland although many things were unfair, there
would not be much of a story if everything was perfect in the fictitious town of Maycomb,
Alabama. The main character in To Kill a Mockingbirdis the young Scout Finch, a girl of eight
years and the daughter of attorney Atticus Finch. I liked reading from Scout s perspective because
she is young and has a pure mind, seeing only the obvious facts unobscured by the social pressures
of adults.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Radley, the Finch family s eerie recluse neighbor. On the way home from a play one summer
night, Scout and her brother, Jem, are attacked by the drunk Bob Ewell but are saved when Boo
leaves his house to stab the perpetrator with a kitchen knife. Thanks to him, Scout gets away
with minimal injury and Jem escapes with only a broken arm. Atticus invites Boo in to stay for
a while for bringing his children home alive and Scout finds that Boo is a kind and quiet man
after talking to him. Atticus and the sheriff agree to cover for Boo by saying that Bob fell on top
of his own knife. I liked that the author did not leave Boo s character only to be defined by the
stories Scout and her friends made up about him as

In difficult financial times, companies face various moral issues to try to keep up with their

rarely address how employees should assess the ethics of their actions and incorporate ethics into

American President Pros And Cons
I feel that it is extremely important to show the way the president has been behaving or acting
because it is concerning how he likes to talk about banning Muslims from the seven countries
like Syria, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iraq. There was also a time where a judge
called Gonzalo Curiel, was presiding over a case against Trump University, he went to say that
He s a Mexican, Trump told CNN. We re building a wall between here and Mexico. The answer
is, he is giving us very unfair rulings, rulings that people can t even believe. Claiming that a
person can t do their job because of their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist
comment, House Speaker Ryan said, though he clearly endorsed Trump. When asked by CNN s

Cause And Effects Of Imperialism In China
In times of sorrow, regret, loss, and depression a movement must begin. Whether it s between you
and yourself or a nation of people. After the loss of people during the Great Depression, people
and leaders were forced to expand their economy in order to rebuild. Which became a revolution in
itself, some were faster and adapting to create a new government for themselves. Others went
through challenging times in order to create a sufficient government to last and stay true to their
self s overtime. Chinawas slow to develop. Their system was independent in tradition and
Confucius beliefs that didn t keep up with the industrial age that was developing in other countries.
The imperialistic era was not a comforting era that conformed with independent nations. China
experienced a lot of loss and rebellion in order to re develop their nation during this time.
However, Japan adapted quickly and took over territories near and allied with other powerful
nations to embark on their communistic revolution. China had friendly relations but the reliance
and trust was not beneficial. For a period of time during imperialism, Great Britain allied with
China for free trade regulations. China was in agreeance and Britain traded Indian opium which
caused drug addiction in China. China tried to stop the drug trade and Britain came with force. The
British used their victory to create the unequal treaty system, which completely turned the tables on
China (197). The First Opium War, turned China

Social Learning Theory Comparison Essay
In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting the behaviourist approach and the social learning
approach. The two theories by Burrhus Frederic Skinner and Albert Bandura are similar as they are
interlinked as learning theories but there are differences in each theorist s overall view of the
concepts within personality development (Comer, et al, 2013).
The behaviourist approach focuses on the view that behaviour is dependent on reward punishment
associations and on stimuli response associations and these actions and resulting behaviours can be
directly observed (Peregoy Maras, 2012). B.F. Skinner acknowledged two types of behaviour:
respondent behaviour and operant behaviour (Boeree, 2006). Respondent behaviour is the simplest

There are seven basic processes to classical conditioning. The first process is acquisition which
occurs when the conditioned stimulus elicits a response for the first time (Davey, 1992). The
second process is stimulus contiguity which says that the two events (unconditioned stimulus and
the conditioned stimulus) will more likely become associated with each other if they occur within
a small time interval (Davey, 1992). The third process is extinction which is when the conditioned
response weakens and disappears due to lack of reinforcement (Davey, 1992). The fourth process is
spontaneous recovery which is when the conditioned response re emerges after extinction has
occurred (Comer, et al, 2013). The fifth process is stimulus generalisation which occurs when the
response is elicited by more than one similar stimuli (Davey, 1992). The sixth process is stimulus
discrimination which is when the same response is not elicited by two conditioned stimuli (Davey,
1992). The seventh and final process is higher order conditioning which can be intentional or
unintentional and occurs when a conditioned response occurs to more than one stimulus (Davey,

Age Of Enlightenment
During the 18th century, a worldwide movement, more commonly recognized as the Age of
Enlightenment, encouraged the spread of philosophical thinking, science, communications, and
politics. This movement gradually branched out from Northern Europe and reached places such as
the United States of America and France, encouraging the American and French Revolutions. The
Enlightenment brought about a new age of philosophical and intellectual thinkers, such as John
Locke, which helped shape and influence modern government and politics. John Locke is
recognized as the father of classical liberalism, introducing the Two Treatises of Government,
Social Contract, and private property, which formed the basis for the constitutions in westernized...

America s Declaration of Independence.) Natural rights became the staple of Locke s political
philosophy. Locke believed that an individual was born with the right and duty to their own life,
including their property. His idea based off of natural rights has become what he is most
commonly recognized for in politics. Much like Locke s belief in natural rights, he also believed
in the social contract theory. The social contract theory is the agreement among people in a society
to cooperate in order to receive social benefits. The government could only be a legitimate
government with the consent of the people that it governs, along with their agreement to obey its
laws (Thompson, Bruce E.R. social contract theory. ) If the citizens obey the rules of its
government, then the government should protect their natural rights such as their freedom of
speech, equality, and property. Locke s social contract theory became one of the ideas that capital
punishment was founded off of, however, he was not the only enlightened thinker to have this
theory. Both John Locke and Thomas Hobbes believed in the social contract theory, but they had
conflicting ideas. Hobbes believed in an absolute monarchy, a form of government in which Locke
was greatly opposed to, and that the people must obey the law, but trying to overthrow their king
would be a violation of the contract. In contrast to Locke, who believed that the citizens have the
right to rebel against its government if they

  • 2. Kosovo Conflict The land of Kosovo has been plagued with tension for hundreds of years, being claimed by several surrounding countries. The two biggest contenders, Albanians in Kosovo and Serbia have been fighting for the land, which culminated in a full war from 1998 1999. The war brought international attention to the war crimes committed by both sides, and proved that the two countries had years to go before coming to a solution. The KosovoLiberation Army (KLA) led by Kosovo Albanians, and the Serbian militia led by President Slobodan MiloЕЎeviД‡ committed heinous crimes against their enemies. Crimes range from ethnic cleansing to rape, and destruction of whole villages. The violence created a serious refugee problem that is still relevant today.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second story is about a famous Macedonian photographer, Aleksander, in London who is having an affair with a married British woman, but decides to move back to Macedonia. The third story is about Aleksander moving back and reuniting with his first love an Albanian woman named Hana. This movie shows the personal effects of the ethnic conflicts and shows how far the conflicts reached. The photographer s family does not approve of him seeing Hana because there is ethnic tension between the Macedonians and Albanians. While the Albanians were taking over Kosovo, fear spread to neighboring countries with an Albanian population especially western Macedonia, and in one scene that fear is shown when Aleksander s brother says, Damn Albanians. They breed like rabbits, and another family member responds, They ll take us over (Manchevski). Before the Kosovo War, Albanians were setting themselves up to take over and make a greater Albania (Binder), so this fear was not without merit. Also, Albanian refugees from the war were moving into neighboring countries, which angered countries that could not support the large number of people. The feeling of outsiders encroaching on their territory inspires hate and fear. In the movie everyone can be seen holding a gun even the children because they are always ready to fight. The perpetuation of violence never stops, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that are not easily made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip. The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass production, many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results, results like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. Less water results in far less shrinkage and greater strength. On the other hand, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Is The Role Of Henry Clay In The Great Compromise In... For so long, Robert Remini has been a significant player the political history. In the analysis of the critical moment in the United States, Robert Remini paints a vivid picture of Henry Clay. Clay is brought out as a man who was contradictory. He fought against the slavery, but on the other hand, he equally owned slaves. He was a common man but unfortunately could not be elected as the president of the country. Clay was an outstanding man who however was identified with lack of discipline. His dedication to an idea that the nation was a continuous union of people was not certain. Robert Remini explores the role of Henry Clay in the molding of the Great Compromise in 1850 (19). In as much as the 1850 compromise did not prevent the civil... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then the author outlines the situation of politics that cropped up due to the war between Americans and Mexicans which seemed to be controversial that took place at around 1846. He then highlights of the crisis that had threatened to bring the union to an end in a scramble of separation and the civil war. Finally, the author paints vividly esteemed Clay who was determined to avert the catastrophe with the great and last compromise. The credible and heroic portrait is what emerges throughout this book. All along, Remini reminds the readers the advanced age and the illness of Clay that hindered his hard work and lastly made him leave Washington before completing his task. In Remini s thesis, there a robust, authentic element: starting with the convention of the constitution someone can argue that the Union was able to be together because of many compromises made initiated by the leaders who were aware for the need of a neutral standing position. Remini, however, transfers the point in extreme and oversimplifies the debate to a point he ignores the six scholarship decades and goes back to the ham handed group explanation. Robert Remini says of Great Triumvirate which he alludes to the era s great men who passed away like Henry clay; the nation would lack men who will be devoted zealously to be of service in the Union and men who possessed candid capabilities in leadership and ... • 6. My Personal Statement Of One Phone Call Who would have thought that one phone call could change my whole life? I recall I was in the kitchen grabbing a snack from the fridge when my phone rang. I remember that before even hanging up with Ms. Rola, I found all my family around me hugging and congratulating me. I couldn t believe it at first. After years of hard work, I made it to AUB with a full scholarship to a major that I always had a passion in. Something to be proud of, right? I was thrilled, but scared at the same time. I knew that AUB will be a big challenge, a different environment with different people and a different lifestyle. Nevertheless, I was up for it. I always wanted to become an AUB student yet it was a burden to afford such prestigious education, knowing that my father is the only breadwinner of the family. He used to always tell me: Do not worry about the money, everything will work out eventually , but I knew that he was just comforting me. By the time I got the call, I was already planning my next year at a public university. I still remember my father s face the moment he knew about the scholarship as he hugged me and whispered to me that he is very proud of my achievements. The first few days at AUB were weird. People here were different! I was lost and I didn t know anybody here. The whole campus gave me a hard time but I was determined to make it through. During my sophomore year, I had the chance to be involved in multiple community service activities. I joined Farah Al Ataa in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This led me to think about those who suffer in a more egregious manner and end up experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I can only empathize to an extent, but I do know there are many causes and effects of PTSD. PTSD makes a big impact on all who have it; with its causes and effects and it s because of this that those who suffer from it need help to cope with it. The stress ridden victims can go through re experiencing the event, doing their best to avoid anything similar to it, feeling numb and isolated towards loved ones due to the fear brought on by the impact, and can also be on the alert for more danger to arrive (Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs). They can also go through depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and problems functioning after a war. (Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs). Staff Sgt. Eric James was one of the few military members to be dishonorably discharged due to his mental illness. He went into fits of rage and often drank due to his PTSD. His therapists were a part of this whole ordeal along with higher ups within the Army because it took less time and money than therapy. This is not the correct way to help those with PTSD. These Army veterans can t handle what they have witnessed on their own (Zwerdling). As mentioned with the causes, they are now on the alert and have stress levels rising when they feel harmed (NHS). Being taken out of the threatening situation isn t enough to cope with what has happened. Like with any impact in life, talking and/or working through it helps one s brain to process what has happened as real, not real; ok or not. While big impacts like this do affect daily lives, small things can be struggled with as well. A veteran and his wife were worried and discouraged [that] they may not be able to enjoy the daily ... It is only through worship and devotion that we feel connected to God. The practice of devotion and worship takes place in churches and cathedrals. It is these places that help us gain knowledge and a deeper more spiritual meaning of God. The churches and cathedrals are the very foundation of religious practice and devotion to God in my opinion. They are known as temples, ceremonial places, and are places of worship to God. Museums enable people to explore collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment. They are institutions that collect, safeguard and make accessible artifacts and specimens, which they hold in trust for society. Art museums, in reference to this definition of museums, specifically make accessible a body of work to people around the world. It in essence offers a new stage in which artists can both appreciate and challenge religion. Art museums of the modern period have the same aesthetic as cathedrals or churches of the past. The very architecture of museums suggest their character as secular rituals. It was fitting that the temple faГ§ade was for two hundred years the most popular signifier for the public art museum. • 12. Rawls Theory of Justice The conventional accounts of Justice normally begin by stating a fundamental rule of Aristotle Justice is to treat equals equally and unequals unequally, and that unequal treatment should be in proportion to the inequality. In everyday life though, justice is seen as an attribute of law, while all laws are not necessarily just. Many great socio political movements of the world have focused from time to time on unjust laws eg Apartheid laws in South Africa and Caste laws in India. Impartiality and fairness are understood to be the two aspects of justice. But it would be misleading to suggest that Justice refers solely to the fair application of a rule. Rawls assumes that these hypothetical people would be conservative risk takers and in a situation of uncertainty would opt for the least disadvantageous outcome in any choice presented to them and they would choose those principles that would maximize the position of the worst off, for just in case they should be the worst off. The two principles of justice that such people choose are: 1. Each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a similar liberty to others. 2. Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both a) to the greatest benefit of the least advantages b) attached to offices and positions open to all under conditions of fair equality and opportunity. These principles are arranged by Rawls in a specific order and are subject to the priority rule, ie the first principle has to always precede the second and 2a should always come before 2b. Rawls commitment to equality, his passionate defense of liberty and his acceptance of inequality only when it brings advantages to the least advantaged are the basic principles of his theory. Thus Rawls advocates a constitutional democracy as the arrangement for upholding these principles. Although this theory seems like a foolproof and universal arrangement in favour of justice and ... • 13. The Lost People Of Civilization Summary The Lost Peoples of Civilization The topic of the American West has captivated and mystified people for decades. Tightly interwoven into the American identity and dream, Westward expansion is often seen with a positive and nearly nostalgic lens. Although we still dream to incorporate the spirit and values learned from expansion, the civilization the Great West did not serve each individual equally. While the civilization provides structure necessary for settlement and community, it also isolates and separates certain peoples. In the West, civilization was accompanied by ripples that adversely affected both American and Native peoples. Released by the highly praised John Ford in 1939, Stagecoach represents the people s dominant perception of the American West. The movie revolves around a diverse group of characters that have boarded the Overland stagecoach bound for Lordsburg, New Mexico. But along the way, the group must avoid reservation escapee Geronimo and his band of rogue Native Americans. As with the Turnerian model, there are two forces constantly in competition with each other: civilization (i.e. the stagecoach and associates) and savagery (i.e. the Native Americans). While the stagecoach passengers speak in full sentences and have active conversations, the Geronimo gang is never heard beyond a few primal grunts. However, I always wonder who is more of a hero. The definition or hero is a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. So let us compare the two heroes as the dictionary defines them. In the end I hope to be able to define who is a greater hero. Maximus was a great warrior in the Roman legion under Emperor Marcus Aurelius. His first courageous feat occurs when he defeats the last of the Barbarians of Germaina. Leading his army along a 12 year campaign he brought it to an end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although they are opposite ends of the spectrum, they both must go from one extreme to the other to get to the end of their story. Starting with Odysseus courageous efforts he first defeats the Trojans at the battle of Troy with the wooden horse. Much like Maximus his story begins with him winning a great war that has gone on for years. Odysseus must use his intellect more so than his brute strength, such as when he escapes the Cyclops. Unlike Maximus Odysseus makes the mistake right off the bat of revealing his name to the Cyclops when he is leaving, thus he cannot return home yet because he hasn t become a nobody yet. The reoccurring theme between the two that I see is that the must reach a certain state before the end of their story can take place. Odysseus has to become a plain man not a war hero, and Maximus must win the crowd over and they need to know who is so he cannot be slain in the dungeons. In his last great show of strength Odysseus strings a bow and kills the suitors that were trying to steal his wife from him while he was gone. Odysseus finally reaches his home in the end and yes becomes that nobody that we so often mention. His journey home was filled with trials much like Maximus was. Odysseus suffered the wrath of the gods, cannibals, giants and even had to wrestle Poseidon. Maximus had to fight in the coliseum against outrageous odds, battling with live tigers nipping at his heels, and ultimately in the end he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Government Intervention Within The Market Place Why does the government feel the need to intervene in the market place especially when the economy is always so hard to predict? The government intervenes within the market place because they believe they know what is best for our economy. They attempt to address what is inefficient within the market place in order to create a more efficient economy. There are many scenarios of government intervention within the market place. Three great examples of when the government intervened within the market place was the first income taxand Internal Revenue Act in 1862, the Specie Resumption Act during the Panic of 1873, and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The first example of government intervention in the market place occurred during the American Civil War. In 1862, the government realized that they would need a bit more revenue coming in to cover the costs of the Civil War. Because of this, President Abraham Lincolnimplemented a tax on household income. A three percent tax was placed on incomes within the range of $600 and $10,000. A five percent tax was placed on incomes more than $10,000. However, as the war kept dragging on, the government realized that this income tax was not going to be enough to cover the expenses of the war. Later in 1862, Congress passed the Internal Revenue Act. This placed a tax on various items. Things like gunpowder, iron, leather, playing cards, whiskey, and telegrams were taxed as a result of this act. The Internal Revenue Act also created a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This means that for around thirty eight years, between approximately two to seven days a month, a woman bleeds as her uterus sheds and menstrual blood flows from the opening in the cervix out of the vagina (Nelson). During those times women are in need of feminine hygiene products. In the majority of our country women pay sales tax on these necessary products. Buck said this in context inferring that removing the sales tax on items such as men s razors and razor blades would level the field between sales tax placed on products specifically meant for women or men (Stice). There are two issues with this solution. One being that women will then want the sales tax removed from their razors and razor blades as well, putting men behind in what seems to be some sort of government taxation game. This game would then cause a slippery slope of requests for sales tax cuts on any number of male or female specific products. The second issue being that in no way are razors an absolute necessity. The Devine intervention of religious philosophies and practices began for the African prior to their capture and survival, of the sea journey, embarking of slave ships from West Africa to the West Indies, and the consequences of slavery. The Africans incline to view existence holistically; the nonspiritual and the holy are mutually undivided realities that exist in aggressive tension but interconnected occurrences. The increasing arguments amongst economists and policy makers that while stability in exchange rate promotes growth and improves standard of living, misaligned exchange rate hinders export growth causing macroeconomic instability (Adigwe, 2013). The optimal goal amongst others for devaluing naira and removal of fuel subsidy is to strike a competitive stance in the international economic system and ensure that it lingers on for period of time to be able to see the economy transitioning from a developing economy to a developed country, as it is the burning desires of most African countries for which Nigeria is a major. Positions and opinions taken by scholars especially within Africa brings to limelight the fact that currency devaluation and fuel subsidy removal may serve as instrument being implemented by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to attain fiscal equalization and stability for developed countries, ... • 37. Hector Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique Review: Symphonie Fantastique Symphonie Fantastique is the first full musical outpouring of romanticism composer, Hector Berlioz. Hector Berlioz is a French composer, a microcosm of the romantic era. Symphony Fantastique is a quintessential example of romantic programmatic music. It is a novel, unlike poetry. It is free of structural form; based on Berlioz being under the influence and remembering of an unattainable woman. There are five movements; his first tempers his depression, his love and jealousy which then rage to religious consolation. The second movement is about his encounter with her at ball. The third movement consists of him seeking peace while wandering in the countryside only to have her disrupt his peace. There is a slow introduction; you get a sense of longing in the music suggesting that Berlioz is feeling sad before he saw his lady friend. The symphony plays a slow introduction in a classical sonata style. The muted strings play a sort of veiled tune and it fits Berlioz s romantic spirit. The orchestra gives off a dreamlike condition and the melody provides a sense of loneliness, and despair, a description of how Berlioz feels. The key it is being played in is C minor. In the first movement a recurrent theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the harps introduction, the violins begin to be playing the main melody. There s ascending and descending and the tempo increases. IdГЁe Fixe is incorporated as soon as Berlioz sees the woman again and then it slowly fades away because the waltz takes over as she disappears into the crowd. The music becomes livelier. One reason why I consider Oprah a role model is because of how hardworking she is. For example, how she rose from poverty to great prosperity. While she used to be poor, she is now a billionaire. The definition of being an American generally means that one either lives or was born in the country. However, actually being an American goes far beyond that of the general definition. Someone can be considered an American because of the location they live or where they were born. Though that may be true, there are many other things that better define an American. The freedom of choice, the chance to create a better life, embracing and accepting different cultures, and the want to defend peace and freedom better explains what it means to be an American.
